Eternally loyal to the lunar Crown (after a fashion, anyway), lunar guard Winter Hayle closes out our main cast! It's been very fun, and I don't plan on abandoning the world of the Lunar Chronicles (or this version of it! I do have a couple bonus pages planned, including a Jacin with the scars I forgot to draw last post).

Winter approaches Jacin's plot points with a bit more of a smile, and thus finds herself getting along much better with the Rampion crew while she's with them. Though she keeps her characteristic airy demeanor, it's as intentional as any other guard keeping a still mind- Winter is almost wholly unreadable to the outside eye, save for her devotion to her prince, who she values above all else. Dressed in the dark uniform of the lunar guard, she fades into the background of luminescent artemisia- or at least, she tries to. Notably, she keeps her hair cropped a bit shorter and held up in a ponytail for practicality's sake, and lacks three distinctive canonical scars down her cheek. (additionally, her uniform is inspired by Clara's uniform in Nutcracker and the Four Realms, because that movie changed me irrevocably and I think the effect is about right)

I honestly can’t see how they’ll be able to save Ashe without William getting his powers back. Like maybe with all the heroes fighting at once they can defeat The Trickster but that’s not the same. The only other person who we’ve seen remove a demon is Mal and even though he said he’d be there he is far from reliable. And the only being that can truly lay a soul to rest is The Whisperer, and if I’m reading things correctly I think that's what the demons actually want? Like if the “I just want to fucking die” line is to be trusted these things are on the world’s most destructive attempt of suicide by cop.

And I think Will knows this, or at least I hope he does. Because in that last conversation with Mal he said they would just throw the demons back in the Chaos Zone every time they got out, even though he was on the opposite side of that argument when it was about jailing vs killing The Lich. And even then that plan doesn’t work without his powers because who’s gonna open the portal? You gonna trust Mal to do it? You gonna trust Mal with anything?

William’s a smart kid, I think he knows this is a hypocritical stance to take. The problem is that he’s scared. He doesn’t want this power, doesn’t trust himself, doesn’t trust Mal. He wants to have a normal life, an actual living life where his body isn’t falling apart and he isn’t responsible for the entire actual afterlife. But he’s so deep in it now, so far from any semblance of normalcy that even without powers I seriously doubt there’s any way he can every truly escape. The title of Whisperer will chase him forever, it’s something the world needs and while I doubt he will know peace by accepting it he certainly won’t know peace by denying it.

I dunno, this show is far from predictable, who knows what kind of absolutely whack ass solutions they might come up with that none of us ever could have seen coming. But with the information we have for now I really don’t see this ending without some serious shenanigans, legendary luck, or The Whisperer. Not without William probably not surviving, Trickster most likely not being defeated, or Ashe almost certainly not getting saved.

That and can your really call yourself Discount Danny Phantom if you aren’t the Ghost King?

Up until I was ten years old, I shared a bed with my mom. Up until I was fourteen or so, I think, we shared a room and I would still occasionally crawl next to her under the covers.

Even as a kid I had horribly crushing anxiety, sometimes so much that I struggled to sleep. We called these "the bad thoughts." As I tried and failed to sleep next to my mom, I'd tell her, "I'm having the bad thoughts," and she'd describe walking down the shore of the beach with the shining sun, and going to play in the park, and other things to that effect until my mind calmed down.

I'm talking about this because I wonder if she thinks about how the amount I told her I was having the bad thoughts increased as I got older, until I simply started telling her less and less even though the times I was getting them wasn't decreasing. And I wonder if she would be thinking about the fact that I kept telling her I had the bad thoughts even after I realized her descriptions were no longer helping, if I had told her that at all.

Okay upcoming writing goals....hopefully anyways since this girl is busy. Edit and post a new chapter of Law of Destiny (this week if possible if not before month ends). Then for the month of February I would love to post at least one if not two more chapters for Return to The Madding Crowd. But my real February goals are write some cute little drabbles/one offs based off my favorite musical songs and maybe songs in general. I have some planned out that will be mostly geraskier based with some hints of radskier because what would the month of love be without some jealousy? 😏 so keep your eyes peeled 😘

Also, there was both a bit of a throwaway comment in gtn about how when a spirit leaves a body (in the context of silas soul siphoning colum and colum getting possessed(?) by a ghost) a ghost/spirit can take over.

And then. In htn when harrow first enters the river, she is almost immediately surrounded by the corpses of the dead children (couldve been just a hallucination but also maybe not - which is yknow, the entire vibe of htn) and so i feel like it would make sense that theyd be close by to take over when she "dies"

Maybe im right. Maybe im wrong. But god, i hope we find out in this book or im lose it a little. Ms muir please, i need answers!!
