Good Girls
summary: Harry finds out that his goody two shoes neighbour is actually quite far from that. Based on the song, Good Girls by 5 Seconds Of Summer.

Harry enjoyed walking at night. He enjoyed strolling through his neighbourhood, which consisted of two parallel rows of houses, separated by a black strip of road. Harry was content and blissfully silent as he walked with his hands stuffed in the pockets of his jacket and a sweet melody of a song he just recently heard swirling in his head.
“Jesus…. Fucking….. Christ.”
Harry heard someone mutter these words under their breath, to be more particular he heard a girl. He recognised the voice but wasn’t quite sure of his assumption as he whipped his head in the direction of that voice.
He saw a girl climb down the window of her bedroom. Muttering ‘fuck’ or ‘shit’ at every misstep of hers. He saw the girl skilfully yet so clumsily climb down, placing her hands in the nooks and corners of the brick lined house.
The girl jumped down and ran a hand over her jeans. She looked into the window, squinting to look at herself and ran a hand through her hair, ruffling it to messy perfection.
Harry finally recognised the girl, it was y/n. You looked different, very different from the girl who goes to ballet practice every morning before school, very different from the soft spoken girl in school and very different from the girl his mom spoke of with such fondness everytime you dropped off brownies, which was usually once a week.
“Y/n? What a surprise.” Harry smugly said.
You turned around with a look of shock on your face. Your eyes were wide open. You looked at him with a sheepish smile and began to go through excuses.
“Never imagined to see you sneaking out.” Harry added, crossing his arms over his chest a sly smile on his face.
“It’s for…. It’s for science.” You quickly said, your hands going behind your back.
“Oh yes yes. Forgot about the assignment, silly me.” Harry deadpanned. You roll your eyes at his response and huffed a breath.
“Listen, im sure we can come to an agreement or at least a conclusion yeah?” You reasoned.
“What?” Harry asked you, confused.
“You can’t tell anyone you saw me. No one. Not even your best friend, Lewis was it?” You mumble the last part under your breath.
“Louis.” He corrected you.
“Same thing Styles.” You rolled your eyes.
“Glad to see the mask is off.” Harry said, musing at your behaviour.
He had interacted with you plenty of times but none of those interactions were like this. He had seen you around school, hugging your books as you walked through the hallways with a smile on your face chatting with your best friend. Other times, he saw you at the doorstep of his house with your brownies in hand which he loved but wouldn’t admit. You always seemed to have a quiet, and soft spoken demeanour so seeing you like this, sneaking out and dressed up in something which wasn’t your school uniform or your ballet clothes was a surprise for Harry. Moreover seeing you sneak out of your bedroom window caught him off guard.
“Mask? What mask?” You joked, knowing well that Harry didn’t expect this out of you. “Well, pleasure meeting you at this hour Styles but I have places to be.” You said nodding your head.
“For the science project?” He asked you, a sly and knowing smile on his face.
“Exactly. Need to observe human behaviour in a club. Possibly even document the outcomes of underage drinking.” You said chuckling.
“Well, I won’t keep you from doing your homework then.”
“Great. I’ll see you around.” You said smiling as you booked a cab from your phone.
—————————————
Harry wondered about you after your little impromptu interaction with him. He saw you around school but you were always busy, your nose either stuck in a book or in school assignments.
You both made eye contact now in the hallways, but you would quickly divert your gaze after giving him a small smile. Harry wanted to be friends with you. He had no reason as to why. He simply wanted to.
Harry’s train of thought was disrupted when his phone began to rang. Ems the caller name displayed. Emily and Harry had a peculiar arrangement, they would have sex, go to parties together and were almost always together yet they weren’t dating.
“Hello?” Harry spoke.
“Harry! You forgot to pick me up from ballet. We’ll get late for Jaspers party!” Emily huffed.
“I’ll be there in ten minutes.” Harry said, getting up from the comfort of his sofa.
“Great, I’ll stretch some more then.”
Harry reached the studio in a matter of ten minutes just as he promised. He searched for Emily and found her laughing with a few girls. Emily spotted him and ran towards him, a smile on her face.
“Oh my God, thank fuck you made it in time.” She said with a breathy laugh. “I’m a man of my word.” Harry replied. “Give me fifteen minutes, need to change and all.” She said and hurried off.
Harry roamed around the studio. He heard the sound of a piano playing accompanied with a few frustrated groans. He saw you, dressed up in a white leotard with a baby pink flowy skirt. Your hair was in a braid, you put it in a bun harshly.
“Listen y/n, you’ve been at it for the past two hours. Take a break.” The man at the piano reasoned. You shot daggers at him.
“Start playing.” You simply said.
The man started to play. Harry saw you twirl and move with more grace than the pianist. Your face was etched in an expression of pain and a few quiet whimpers left your lips with every twirl yet you kept going. You powered through and once the piece was over, you fell to the ground, your chest caving in with every breathe.
“Listen Matt, we just need to go through the part before the temps de l’ange.” You said, still breathless.
“Don’t be so hard on yourself y/n, you’re really doing good. I’m going home now, so should you.” Matt said picking up his stuff and leaving you on the floor.
You sighed and got up. You winced with every time step you took towards the door.
“Need any help?” Harry asked you. You look at him with an expression mixed with exhaustion and surprise.
“Why are you here?” You ask him.
“I’m here to pick up Emily.” Harry said. You grimaced at the sound of her name and mumbled a ‘right’ as you continued to walk.
“You won’t make it all the way to the door like this.” Harry said, an edge of concern in his voice.
“Don’t worry. I’m used to it.” You curtly said.
It didn’t take long for you realise that he was right. You simply sat down on the floor without saying a word. You began to remove your shoes and whimpered with pain.
“That doesn’t look good.” Harry said, his eyebrows scrunched in concern as hovered over you, his gaze fixated on your bleeding feet.
“Thank you Harry.” You said sarcastically.
“I didn’t mean it like that.”
“Just leave me alone. I’m having a shit day.” You said in frustration. You let your bun fall down, cascading into a loose and messy braid.
“Come on,” Harry said stretching his hand out to you. You debated on whether to take it or not. You decided to take his hand since he was right, there was no way you would make it to the door without hurting yourself.
“Ow..ow.. you’re too fast Harry slow down.” You said in between breaths of pain. Harry slowed down, your hand still encased tightly in his as he made you walk to your bag. You picked up your bag and slipped into more comfortable shoes.
In this distance, you saw Emily walking towards you and Harry dressed up in a tight mini dress. You had nothing against wearing tight dresses but seeing Emily wear a dress that looked as if it suffocated her made you scowl.
“Y/n hi, i didn’t know you and Harry are friends.” Emily said, eyeing Harry with a hardened gaze.
“Because we aren’t.” You said firmly. Harry stiffened a bit at your words. However, the reality of your interactions with him was that they were by coincidence, being in the right place at the right time perhaps. Harry understood this, he understood that you two were nothing but mere acquaintances and the more ironical thing about your circumstance was that you stood a far better chance at being friends with his mother (which you were) than with him, unlike his other friends.
“Oh.” Emily said curtly. She tucked her hair behind her ear and gestured for Harry to come to her side. “I’ll see you around.” Emily mumbled as she left.
“Will I see you at Jasper’s tonight?” Harry asked you. “I’d rather die.” You replied back, a slight smile on your face. “Till we meet again Styles.” You said, extending your hand to him. He shook your hand and replied with, “till we meet again.”
——————————————
The night sky felt alluring. You could feel it’s magnetic field reach out to you and call you. The air was cool and gentle as it blew around your bare arms and legs. You sighed contently and took a hit of the cigarette perched in your hand.
You were sitting on the grass, your legs stretched out to the road. You liked how quiet it was.
You took a hit of your cigarette, watching the smoke circle above your head. In the distance, you saw a muscular figure make its way towards you. You were about to get up but you heard the figure shout out your name.
“Y/n!” It was Harry.
He ran up to you and scanned his eyes over your relaxed figure.
“We need to stop meeting like this.” You said making Harry crack into a bright and pearly smile.
“Wanna sit?” You ask him, as you patted down at the free space next to you.
“Sure.” Harry said while he sat down, his legs own bare legs touching your cold ones. You felt your whole focus narrow down to the part where your thighs touched.
“Didn’t know you smoked.” Harry said, his eyes showing an incredulous look.
“There’s a lot you didn’t know.” You said shrugging lightly.
“Seems so. I didn’t know that you sneak out, drink, smoke-”
“I get it Styles.” You said, halting Harry’s long list of all the things he didn’t know about you. Harry chuckled at your response.
“How’s your foot?” Harry asked you. You only rolled your eyes as you disposed off the cigarette.
“It’s fine. Nothing big.” You said, your eyes set straight at the road.
“I don’t like Emily.” Harry blurted out, his words a bit haywire, an indication that he was drunk.
“You’re drunk Harry.” You said.
“Tipsy.” He corrected you before he continued, “don’t get me wrong, she’s pretty and nice but is it so scandalous to admit the fact that she tires me?” Harry sighed.
“Tires you?”
“Like a record player you know. At first, you’re fascinated, then you like it and then you’re obsessed but after a while you realise, ‘shit, it’s the same thing over and over again’ and then you want something different. Something real.”
“Wise words Styles.”
“You don’t understand me.” Harry grumbled rolling his eyes.
“What, I do!”
“No you don’t.”
“I understand how it feels when you’re living your life according to the likes of others. I understand how it feels when you’re walking on eggshells, afraid that one wrong move and everyone’s going to see who you are under that facade. I understand how it feels to be suffocated. I understand Harry.” You mumbled the last part in a quiet voice.
“Shit man, welcome to the club.” Harry said, slinging an arm across your shoulders as he brought you closer to him.
—————————————
As the months passed by, you and Harry became attached at the hip. You no longer passed him small and shy smiles but would wave at him with full enthusiasm and he would often steal you away from your friends just because he needed a dose of ‘reality’ when he spent too much time around Emily.
Tonight, you had promised Harry to take him to the places you would vanish to in the night. Harry was apprehensive at first, any experience he had when it came to drinking and partying came from high school house parties. You somehow convinced him with a few hugs and slobbery kisses on his cheek.
You climbed down the balcony of your house, Harry watched you intently with every step his hands open to catch you if you fell. You got off with a jump, running your hands over your skirt.
“Graceful.” Harry said. He offered you his hand which you took, ignoring the faint warmth that rose up to your cheeks.
It was a ten minute drive to the club you usually went. Harry couldn’t help but wince at how loud the music was at first but as time passed he began to let lose. You both had downed a couple of drinks and spent the night in each others arms, close enough to have your hearts beat in synchronisation.
“Have I told you how pretty you are?” You said to Harry as you put a hand on his face. Harry leaned into your hand and closed his eyes giving you a lazy smile.
“No.” He said.
“Well I think you’re really very pretty.” You said hiccuping, a slight giggle passing through your painted lips. “Keep it coming y/n.” Harry said, a smug smile on his face. You roll your eyes and draw your hand down to your side.
“We should head home. Got school tomorrow.” You said and Harry groaned. “We can skip.” He said, a glint of mischievousness in his eyes. “Nope.” You said shaking your head no. “Why don’t you try skipping school.” Harry pleased and you immediately shut him up by placing your hand on his mouth.
“We’re leaving now and I’ll pick you up for school tomorrow.” You said. Harry licked your hand and you squealed. You took a step back but Harry pulled you closer, a hand on your waist as he tugged you towards him.
“Fine.” He said defeated. You smiled and kissed his cheek.
You wanted to stay here, in his arms and not leave his warm and strong embrace. You mentally slapped yourself in the face for thinking like this. You told yourself that Harry didn’t want you. He wanted someone pretty, someone who would got to house parties and post about them, someone who everyone admired, someone who everyone loved and wanted to be friends with.
He didn’t want someone who hides behind a carefully curated identity of ambiguity, he didn’t want someone who would purposely go into self destruct mode, someone who buried themselves in work, someone who no one liked, someone who no one knew about and more importantly he didn’t want someone like you.
Harry one the other hand was fully convinced that he wanted no one other than you. There was nothing more he wanted than to hear you laugh because of him, to spend his days with you and simply bask in your presence.
“You there?” Harry asked you, bring you out of your trance. You looked up at him and gave him a smile. “Yeah.”
You needed to get away from him before you fell even harder.
————————————
Harry wondered what went wrong.
The two of you had last talked a week ago. Harry noticed that you had been running away or at least seemed to run away from him. He had seen you once or twice when you came to drop off your brownies. Other than that, you were usually drowning yourself in school work and spent your nights studying rather than sneaking out. At least that’s what Harry thought.
You would sneak out every night or two around one or two a.m and would return by four in the morning which gave you three hours of sleep in total. You spent your time in school studying and answering all questions asked in class diligently, like the person everyone in school thought you were. You practiced ballet every day, until you felt your bones and legs cleave into two, hoping to suppress the roaring in your head whenever you thought about harry.
Today however had been a difficult storm to hone. You had finished baking your batch of brownies and headed to Harry’s house. You hoped he wasn’t there although it was a holiday. A part of you wished that he were with his friends or even Emily while the other part of you missed him. Missed him in a way that you believed was best left unattended to.
You rang the doorbell of his house and were greeted by the warmth of his mother.
“Y/n! Oh how I missed your brownies.” Anne said hugging you tight.
You smiled at her and handed her the container. “Made them the way you like.” You said.
“With extra love?” Anne asked you, a glint of happiness and adore in her eyes.
“Of course. Always with extra love.” You said, shoving your hands in the pockets of your jacket.“Well I best be going.” You said.
“Nonsense. Come in for a cup of tea. It’s the least I can do for you.” Anne said, holding the door wide open for you to enter. She didn’t give you the time to say no or to even think about her offer as she pulled you in and shut the door close.
Harry’s house always smelt like fresh cut flowers and honey. It was warm and welcoming. You followed Anne to the kitchen, a wince forming on your lips as you walked owing to your swollen ankles. You were over worked and exhausted but you needed to an escape from the plague of thoughts Harry left in your head.
But here, standing next to Harry’s mother in his own house was no remedy to the illness that plagued you in your head and heart.
“How is school going?” Anne asked you as she brewed tea. She set down three cups instead of two on the counter top.
“School is good. Just a lot of work and studying.” You said shrugging cooly.
“If Harry worked half as hard as you, I’d more than happy with him.” Anne choked on a laugh. You gave her a weak and small smile.
“I’m glad that such things are being said about me.” A voice from the stairs said.
It was Harry.
You turn around to meet his gaze. He looked effortlessly beautiful in a plain white tee shirt and a pair of grey sweatpants. You wondered if he knew that fact about him since there was no one to tell him that other than your occasional drunken self.
“Hi.” You breathed out.
“Hey.” Harry said, his eyes narrowing at your frame. He walked closer to you, his eyes not leaving your face. You felt yourself burn and heat under his gaze but you kept your posture high and stiff.
“Can we talk?” Harry asked you in a quiet voice.
You never noticed how close the both of you stood to one another until today. You never noticed how you would find yourself leaning into him, as if it were second nature until today. You never noticed that there was an undertone of love in his eyes when he was around until today.
“Yeah.” You said. Harry held you by his wrist and took you up his room.
You sat down on the edge of his bed as he stood at the doorframe, his arms crossed and lips pursed in contemplation as if he were wondering what to say.
“Why have you been avoiding me?” Harry asked you, breaking the icy silence between the both of you.
“I’m not.” You replied, your voice far and distant.
“Bullshit.”
“It’s… it’s difficult.” You said.
“Not if you explain it to me y/n.” Harry said, walking close to you and held your hands in his. A silent plead. A whisper of love. A promise of acceptance.
You hated this. You hated being so vulnerable in front of him. You hated knowing the fact that he could strike where it would hurt the most with only words.
But you had to. You had to wear your heart on your sleeve just as he had done repeatedly. If not for him, then for your own sanity.
“I like you Harry. Fuck, do you know how difficult it is to fall for your best friend and also be aware of the fact that you’re not good enough for him?” You said. Harry’s grip on your hands only tightened at your confession. He was silent. Quiet.
“Say something. Please.” The last word came out as a weak whisper. Harry brought his head closer to yours, your eyebrows touching each other as he held you in the embrace of a lover who had longed for this, longed for you.
“Y/n, you’re far too good for me. Screw Emily, I don’t want her. I don’t want any of the things people think I do. You’re the reason I smile everyday and it pains me that you don’t know that. I love you y/n, like it or not I do and there’s nothing you can do or say that’ll change that. If anything, I might be the one who’s not good enough for you.” He said, his eyebrows scrunched in sorrow at the thought of you thinking you’re not enough for him.
“What! No Harry. You’re everything I want. Don’t ever think that.” You said.
“Can I kiss you?” He asked you.
You didn’t let him speak further as you crashed your lips onto his, letting pure and sweet oblivion sweep away every thought of insecurity and uncertainty that crashed through you.
This was real.
He was real.
Harry broke the kiss, his hand caressing your face.
“I promise to take care of you y/n. You’re all I’ve ever wanted.” He said before kissing you again.

pairing: ex boyfriend! harry x y/n
summary: harry approaches you at your senior prom
word count: 3k
____________________________________________
You watched from your seat at one of the many tables that lined the dance floor as a multitude of couples danced to the loud music blaring from the speakers. Your senior prom was in full swing, and while everyone was laughing and having a great night, you were sitting away from the crowd, zoning in and out of consciousness as your gaze landed on your ex boyfriend, dancing with his date for the night.
“Are you cold?”
The voice of your current boyfriend, Marcus, brought you back to reality. He had his coat outstretched to you, awaiting your reply.
“Huh? Oh, no I’m okay Marcus, but thank you. I would love a drink though”
“Sure thing, I’ll be right back!”
Poor thing, you thought. Marcus was a sweetheart, more so now that he was even willing to accompany you to your prom, despite being a few years older than you and well into college. You started dating him fairly soon after you and Harry broke up four months ago, and has been a great boyfriend in every way–the only problem was, he wasn’t Harry.
You and Harry had only been together for six months, but you tortured each other ever since. Heated glances from across the classroom, being put in the same groups for presentations, ending up at the same parties–no matter how much you wanted to keep your distance from him, he was always there. You were head over heels in love with him, and was devastated when he broke up with you, claiming he wanted to “focus on school” or his job or whatever excuse he gave. Still to this day you never knew why he ended it, but it broke your heart. Since then it seemed that your feelings for him never stopped, despite him dating girl after girl in the months since and you meeting Marcus. Marcus was a needed distraction from Harry-–the only problem was, he wasn’t distracting enough.
Your eyes found Harry and his new girl, Sarah, swaying to one of the slower songs the DJ played occasionally throughout the night. From the corner of your eye you could see Marcus coming back with two drinks in hand, one for him and one for you. Just as Marcus got to your table, Harry’s eyes met yours in an intense stare. As much as you wanted to look away, his eyes were almost daring you to stay on his. His eyes scanned your frame as he pulled Sarah even closer to him, her back facing you as they slowly swayed to the music. It was clear they were having a conversation, because you could see him smile at something she said, but his eyes never left yours. You felt a chill go down your spine at the feeling of being watched so intently and you shifted slightly in your seat, unsure of what to do. Fortunately, Marcus made the decision for you, as you were the first to break the stare when you felt a light tap on your shoulder.
“Here’s that drink, did you want to dance at all tonight?”
You felt bad for him, as you had been sitting most of the night. Dances weren’t really your style. Your feet would always hurt, and there were always so many people on the dance floor that your claustrophobia would inevitably kick in. You only went to dances to socialize with your friends, but tonight your friends were out on the dance floor with their dates, likely capitalizing on their last prom before they graduate. Your eyes flitted to where Harry was but he was walking off the dance floor and making his way to the DJ, probably to request some song Sarah wanted to hear.
“Sure, let’s go.” You took a final swig of your drink before leaving the table and making your way to the dance floor.
Finding a space between the other couples, you and Marcus began to sway with the music, his hands on your hips and yours around his neck. Yet again, as if he was haunting you, Harry and Sarah were right behind Marcus, and your eyes found his green ones once more. It almost seemed like he was angry with you with how intense his eyes seemed, but when his eyes moved down to your chest you realized it was not anger but longing. Suddenly the room felt very hot as you tried valiantly to listen to whatever Marcus was saying to you, something about his friend from work maybe? You had stopped listening long ago. You looked down to take in Harry’s black suit, with the buttons of his white collared shirt underneath slightly undone to reveal his staple gold cross necklace. You were just beginning to make out the twin swallow tattoos on his chest—the same ones you went with him to get immediately after he turned 18—when a new song started that had you frozen in place.
It was your song. The song he played for you every time he took you home from school. The song he played during your car makeout sessions. The song he played when you failed your math test and cried in his arms. It was the very same song playing in the background when he told you he loved you for the first time.
You felt incredibly overwhelmed now, and as your mind was racing with the bittersweet memories this song brought back to you, you noticed Harry leave a very confused Sarah and make his way over to where you and Marcus were. It was almost as if Harry forgot about Marcus’s existence completely when he approached you and lightly grabbed your arm and without saying a word, pulled you from Marcus, and pulled you tightly into his arms. Your heart was beating so fast you thought it was a wonder you were still able to stand up.
Your hands wrapped around his neck as his arms held your hips impossibly close to his own. His eyes seemed to bore into your soul, and as the song carried on, his eyes flicked down to your lips. He seemed to get closer and closer and before your brain could catch up to what was happening in the moment, his lips ghosted over yours. You could barely breathe, and before he could finally press his lips to yours, you pulled back and came to your senses.
“What are you doing, Harry?” you asked breathlessly. You hated how easily flustered he made you, and how quick you were to abandon Marcus just because Harry wanted you.
“I’m dancing,” you heard him say with amusement. He leaned impossibly close to your ear and whispered, “This is our song, remember?”
His voice sent chills down your body and for a second you couldn’t form a single thought. The sheer proximity of his body to yours had you struggling to think clearly. Suddenly, you remembered earlier in the night when Harry had gone up to the DJ. You put the pieces together, and suddenly realized:
“It was you, wasn’t it? You requested our song” you said in an accusing whisper.
“Ah, so you do remember!” he replied tauntingly. “You’ve had my attention all night, I had to do something to get you in my arms.”
You could hardly believe what you were hearing. Clearly he doesn’t want me if he was the one who broke up with me in the first place, you thought to yourself, getting more confused as you continue to sway with him.
“Harry, you were the one who broke up with me!” Has he lost his mind? You thought to yourself.
“Yeah”, he started, “But it doesn’t change the fact I still want you.”
By now, his face was so close to your own that you could feel his warm breath on your face, and the tips of your noses were so close that any movement forward and they would touch. He continued:
“I can’t stop thinking about you, Y/N. I thought I could get over you, but I can’t, and believe me, I’ve tried.” He paused for a moment, searching your eyes for you to understand what he was trying to say. When it was clear to him that you still didn’t understand what he was trying to tell you, he began again:
“Nobody can ever measure up to who you were to me, and” he looked at you earnestly as he tried to find the right words to say. “And, I was a fool for trying.”
Your head was spinning with his sudden confession. What is he saying? You thought to yourself. Is he saying he’s sorry? Is he saying he still loves me and wants to be with me again? Part of you wants to tell him to fuck off, and that this is too little too late. But the other part of you–the part of you who has never stopped loving him despite the fact he broke your heart–is begging you to cave and take him back.
Your train of thought is interrupted by the feeling of Harry’s hand lifting up your chin to meet his eyes. He looks nervous, more nervous than you’ve ever seen him before. He looks at you, waiting for you to say anything in response to what he said. You manage to stumble out something while trying to calm your butterflies at the feeling of Harry touching your face.
“Harry, I–” you start, forgetting what you were going to say the minute you began. You try again. “I–”
“Y/N do you still love me?” Harry interrupted.
You couldn’t believe what he just asked you. Why was he doing this here? Right now? In front of everybody? Including our dates?! What is he thinking??
“Because I still love you, Y/N. Never stopped,” he rushed out anxiously. “I was afraid before, and thought maybe I was just obsessed with you and that it was a phase I would grow out of, and that it was better for both of us if I ended things before you got hurt, but–”
You couldn’t take it anymore.
“‘Before you got hurt’?” you threw his own words back at him. “Harry, I was devastated! You hurt me more than you could ever imagine! I loved you and you just left me.” You saw that Harry looked surprised by your sudden venom, evidently not expecting you to react this way, but you could see the sadness in his eyes that told you that he knew you were right.
“Of course I still love you, I never stopped loving you,” you continued, reaching your hand from around his neck into his hair, playing absentmindedly with one of his brown curls. “But if you were able to hurt me while you still loved me, how will I know you won’t do it again?” You say, softer this time.
Before Harry could respond, your song ended and the DJ came on the mic to announce that the next song would be the slow dance song. You immediately recognized the beginning sounds of “Can’t Help Falling in Love,” and as Elvis crooned out the lyrics to what had to be your favorite song of all time, Harry brought his hand from your waist to the side of your face, cupping your cheek.
“I’m sorry for the hurt I caused you,” he started, looking intently into your eyes. “I guess I just want you to know how much I love you, and how every time I hear our song, or see a couple walking down the street, or even when I lay in bed every night, I–” he faltered. “I always think about you. I miss you so much, Y/N, and I guess…” he said, with his eyes beginning to tear up a bit. “I guess I just wanted you to know that.”
“Why now?” you ask. “Why are you only doing this now, when we’ve been broken up for months, and when I’m with somebody else and happy with them?”
“But are you?” he questioned.
“Am I what?” you reply, confused at what he could be playing at now.
“Are you happy? With him” he turned his head slightly to glance behind him to where Marcus now sat with Sarah, both visibly upset and annoyed at their night ending this way.
Am I happy with Marcus? You thought to yourself. He’s incredibly sweet, and kind, and while your feelings for him weren’t the same as they were for Harry, Marcus was stable and made you feel secure.
Your lack of response encouraged Harry to press on:
“Does he make you happy like I made you happy? Do you feel with him what you felt with me? Does he—” he swallowed and looked down to your lips for a split second before returning to look into your eyes with a desperate look. “Does he kiss you like I kissed you?”
Your eyes widen in shock and before you can respond, he cups your face in both of his hands and pleads, “Y/N please, just—” You notice that his eyes are glossier now than before. Is he starting to cry? You briefly think to yourself before he continues his thought, stumbling through his words. “Just, just love me please. I’m lost without you, and seeing you with him I– I just couldn’t watch anymore. I’m sorry for being an idiot. I h-hope you can trust me again and trust me when I say I don’t ever want to lose you again.”
By now his curls had fallen slightly in front of his face and a tear was threatening to run down his cheek. Seeing him this upset and feelings laid bare for you was overwhelming. It made the part of you that was still hurt after Harry broke up with you feel vindicated that he was crawling back to you in this way, but there is this small voice in your head that is getting louder and louder with each of Harry’s assurances of his love that was telling you that this just isn’t right.
“Harry, are you only doing this because you are jealous of Marcus? Because if this is just because you feel possessive of me then I don’t think—”
“I promise you, it’s not that” he interrupted. “Well, it’s not only because of that I guess” he chuckled to himself nervously. “I guess I just realized that if I spend every waking minute of my life only thinking of you then it means I’m ruined for anyone else, and you are the only one I’ll ever love.”
His confession had your heart fluttering and had you at a loss of words. Everything in you wanted to be back with him, but you couldn’t help but feel insecure that he’d change his mind in a few months and break your heart again.
“Are you sure you won’t change your mind later” you whisper, cautious of how true his intentions were.
“I won’t, please…” his face inching closer to yours, now overwhelmingly close to your face.
For a moment, you almost close the gap and finally kiss him. After all, this is what you have wanted, right? You’ve been looking longingly at him ever since he broke up with you, have been jealous of all the girls he’d kiss in the parking lot after school, and haven’t given 100% in your relationship with Marcus simply because you were still hung up on this love you had with Harry that you saw as being perfect. So why were you feeling so uneasy?
You glance behind Harry’s shoulder, and see Marcus sitting down at your table with his head in his hands. In an instant, your heart broke. Marcus seemed so hurt at the prospect of you going to someone else, and it dawned on you that Harry actively tried to hurt you by flaunting all those different girls in front of you these past 6 months. Anytime you were anywhere near him, he made sure to put his arm over whatever girl he was with at the time and look at you intentionally, almost trying to provoke you or make you feel bad about yourself. Marcus would never do that. Everything he did was to help you and to make you feel like you were worthy of love.
Before Harry could lean forward any closer, you immediately pull back, and get your hands away from his neck. His eyes widened in surprise, almost as if he didn’t expect you to stand up for yourself.
“Y/N…” he tried.
“No, Harry” you interrupt him, full of clarity. “I’m not falling for this. If you wanted me, if you truly loved me, you wouldn’t have left me and you certainly wouldn’t have rubbed it in my face with every new girl you would wave in front of me. Goodbye, Harry.”
You left a confused and desperate Harry on the dance floor, and you could hear him call your name in a last ditch effort to convince you to come back to him.
You make your way to Marcus, still sitting at your table, and grab his arm gently. You softly say in his ear, “I have to get out of here, let’s go.” He looked up at you, with slightly teary eyes, in confusion.
“I thought you were going off with him,” he replied solemnly and glanced over to Harry, who was now off the dance floor and in a heated argument with Sarah.
“No, he and I are done,” you assured him. “He won’t ever get between us again, Marcus, and I’m sorry for letting it go so far.”
Marcus seemed to understand, and replied, “Let’s get out of here, and we can talk about it when we aren’t around so many people, okay?”
You remembered just how introverted Marcus was, and how he was probably stressed out the whole night just because of how many people were around. It dawned on you how much he had to step out of his comfort zone just to come with you tonight. Yet another reason why you made the right choice.
“Okay” you replied, latching onto his arm and glancing one last time at Harry, who was already staring at you with a defeated look in his eyes. You look back to Marcus and smile, and tell him:
“Lead the way.”

Eric Harris' journals were meant to be looked at and seen as horrible and disgusting, Eric wanted to be seen as some God who felt no pity, no sadness, no remorse, no emotion. He wanted to feel like a badass like doomguy for example. Eric is a product of his time and the media he consumed, he never once was really honest in his journals because as I said, they were meant to be found. He didn't show how he truly felt or thought in his journals or online entries, these were all a persona he put up. So the argument that Eric was a monster or did it cause he could has no evidence, Eric had emotions and feelings too, did he show them in his writings? No. They're the writings of a edgy teenager with issues that we cannot and likely will never know, especially since his families full disownment of their son, not accepting his ashes and never mentioning him afterwards as much, showing photos, nothing. Whatever Eric felt truly died with him.
"Feels like a character" cause he was. His persona online and in the footage we see is all one. welcome to my 5 minute typed out rant

tongue tied outtake:::
“Is that Y/N?” One of Harry’s team mates asked him as they warmed up on the field before football practice started.
“Yeah,” Harry smiled when his eyes fell on her. She was wearing his puffer jacket as she sat on the sidelines, reading words out loud from a book she had picked out of the library.
“What’s she doing?” His teammate wondered.
“Speaking.” Harry replied, vaguely.
Harry chuckled when he saw her angrily throw the book on the floor in front of her, crossing her arms as though she had just gotten into an argument with it.
He jogged over, picking the book up off the floor. He squatted down in front of her and saw her pouty, frustrated face. He flicked her chin up, “Hello baby,” He smiled, ticking his head to the side.
“H-Hi,” Y/N mumbled.
“Would y’ mind telling me what’s got y’ all upset?” He grabbed her hand, kissing the back of it.
“I hate that book, the words are too hard.” She pouts, crossing her arms like an angry toddler.
“Hey enough of that,” He tried not to laugh, “What do we do when the words are too tough?”
She huffs, her hands falling to her sides, “Breathe and sound them out slow.”
“Mhm,” He grabs both her hands in his palms and inhales deeply. Y/N copies his actions and closes her eyes as she does, “Okay, read me the first few words.”
Y/N did as she was told, sounding out each word as though they were the longest words in the dictionary. It took her a while to get through the first sentence but Harry listened patiently, his smile growing with every word she spoke aloud without stuttering.
“Good job baby!” He held her face in his hands, “You’re so smart and clever.”
Y/N gave him a deadpan stare in return but he quickly kissed her and her lips curved against his, “I love you.”
“I love you more,” He grinned, “Gonna let me go play now? No more throwing books on the ground okay?”
“Kay,” She nodded and sat back down on the bench to finish reading aloud.
Harry jogged back over to join his team, his eyes glancing over at Y/N every now and then to make sure she was okay.
“She alright?” Harry’s teammate asked again when he had returned.
Harry looked over at his girlfriend fondly and wondered if it were possible to fall in love this heard at this age. “Yeah,” He spoke, “She’s perfect.”

I think it's funny if every Voyager au has its own 'delta quadrant' and 'Maquis v Starfleet' circumstance that they're treating with the same level of seriousness and angst. Flight attendant Au but they're experiencing several long layovers and are from two competing airlines. High School Au but they're from different schools on a tense joint overnight trip.

“God, but he’s gorgeous,” Regulus says mindlessly, his eyes trained on the other boy’s abs.
“Isn’t he?” Lily mumbles beside him in agreement.
Right on cue, James slips on the wet concrete and stumbles, falling face-first with a resounding smack. Regulus drops his head in his hands. Lily can’t help but watch as James quickly pushes himself back up, brushing off the other swimmers’ concerned offers of help with a carefree laugh and a blinding smile. Evan snickers and casually tosses an arm over the other boy’s shoulder, tugging him over to the changing rooms. James goes along with him, his head blissfully empty.
Lily stares after him in resignation. “God, but he’s an idiot.”
“Isn’t he?” Regulus sighs into his hands.

Things to Learn
Request: hiii idk if youve thought about this but what about a mean girl!yn and nerd!harry high school fic or something like that :))
A/N: it is what the request says, idk if this is exactly what you wanted but writing a mean girl!yn was different for me. I also wrote this from Harry’s third pov so that’s also different lol. Hope you enjoy it? Thanks for the req :) <3
———————————————
Harry hated girls like her. Hate was a strong word, he knew that. And he used it still.
He eyes her again as she sits on the lunch table and talks animatedly to her friends about something shallow or irrelevant. He goes back to the sandwich he had for lunch.
“She’s out of your league mate,” Harry’s best friend tells him.
“What?”
“YN? You’re staring at her. She’s out of your league. Like so far that even if you climbed a mountain and looked over everything you wouldn’t be able to see-“
“I got it,” Harry didn’t like her. He knew she was well out of his league and he didn’t care. He had one more year of this shite called high school and then he was off to uni. His sister always told him high school labels didn’t follow you there. “I don’t even like her. I was just looking.”
His friend makes a noise, he didn’t believe him.
“I’m serious. Ms. Easton partnered us in history probably because she’s not doing well. I’ve got the highest grade. But she’s insufferable.”
“You’re insufferable,” his friend shoots back. “If I was partnered with her I’d be shooting my shot. Every chance.”
“I’d rather shoot myself,” Harry mutters. He had history next period and he wasn’t looking forward to it. Their class had booked the library for research period and that meant suffering through it with YN.
He’s first to arrive at the library and books a computer. They were researching the royal family, he didn’t know what angle the paper was going to be from but he would figure it out later. Alone. Because YN was always too busy not giving a shit.
The truth was, he just didn’t understand girls like YN. How they could be so shallow and rude for no reason, he didn’t think the world was rainbows and unicorns but it was decent to just be a little nicer. She was judgemental, loud, and of course attractive as hell. But her personality ruined any good looks in his opinion. So even though he was staring at lunch, he didn’t find her very attractive.
“I guess we’re sitting here,” speak of the devil. Surprisingly YN is here before the bell goes off. She sits in the seat next to Harry and her bag is thrown on the floor.
“Hi to you too,” Harry mutters. He ignores her, continuing to flip through his textbook for the correct chapter.
“Have we decided on a topic?”
Harry grits his teeth. I don’t know YN have we? Instead he says, “No.”
“Oh, well why not just do it on what’s going on right now?”
“Because it’s a history class,” Harry finally look at her. He remembers it was a little nerve wracking to do that when they were first partnered but now his annoyance triumphed any nerves.
“And?” She scrunches her brows. “Isn’t that the point?”
She had no idea what she was talking about. He shakes his head and goes back to his textbook.
“You don’t have to be such a nerd all the time you know that?” She continues.
Harry ignores her.
“Hello?” She snaps her fingers. Who did she think she was?
“Can we just work?” Harry couldn’t stand her.
The bell rings. YN picks up her phone in a huff and Harry goes back to Googling for their project.
***
Harry packs his bag with the books he needs as students rush past him to go home. His bag weighed a million pounds and he’s pretty sure it aged his back 40 years but it was either his grades or his back that suffered.
“Hey Harry,” a voice calls out to him as we heads out the door. He turns to it; Raina, one of YN’s friends. She twirls her blonde hair and tilts her head. “It is Harry right?”
“Uhm,” suddenly Harry’s throat was parched. Raina was gorgeous and gorgeous girls never spoke to him.
“You’re cute,” she gets up close and personal with Harry and everything in that big brain of his liquifies and slides away. “So I heard you’re giving my bestie a hard time.”
“Your-uh,” what was wrong with him? Focus!
“My bestie! YN?”
“Oh,” the name snaps him out. Was this a prank, why was Raina talking to him? “W-what?”
“I thought you were smart,” she tilts her head again, this time Harry understands it to be condescending. “Did you not understand the question?”
Harry hears a snicker from behind him. His heart drops, he knew what was happening yet he walked right into it.
“Harry’s really smart,” YN’s voice comes from behind. “So smart he can’t even talk to me. Like, I’ll bring down your IQ or something right?”
“I never said that,” Harry turns, back to the wall like he was in some sort of fight for his life and he had to cover all his angles.
“Then what’s your problem?” YN demands. Her friend takes a back seat, staring at him from behind YN’s shoulder.
“I didn’t say I had one,” Harry mumbles.
“What? Speak up!” With one hand on her hip, YN was the image of a mean girl. Harry’s gaze flickers up to her face and he realizes she was actually angry. At him. He looks away.
“You’re so pathetic,” she tells him. “You can barely look me in the eye when I’m talking to you but you think you’re a hot shot just cuz you get straight As. You can take your intellectual superiority and shove it up your ass.”
He was surprised to hear her say intellectual superiority, then he realizes the irony of thinking that.
“This guy bothering you?”
Great. Harry hitches his backback higher on his shoulders. One of YN’s soccer star boyfriends had joined. He looks Harry up and down with a condescending smirk.
“No, I got it.” YN says but her friend opens her big mouth.
“He thinks he’s the smartest person here, he treats YN like shite.”
“Really?” He turns to Harry and now is when Harry realizes he was deep in. There was no way out.
“I’m sorry,” he looks YN in the eye and only her. He had to make a quick exit, find a way out of this before these meatheads decided to defend YN’s honour or something like that.
“Too late for sorry,” Raina says. Another guy—Brett joins the crowd.
“What’s going on?” He asks.
“Nothing,” YN says while her eyes stay on Harry.
“Hey Harry! Mate! This guy helped me pass my maths last semester.”
“Yeah he’s a nerd,” the other guy says to Brett. “That’s the point.”
“Hey Brett,” Harry nods. He should go, he thinks. Make a move. Get out of this circle forming around him.
“He’s a dick to YN,” Raina reminds everyone. What was her issue? “And he’s always staring at her like a creep.”
YN turns to look at her friend. Raina widens her eyes and shrugs.
“What the fuck?” The other guy, Harry had no idea what his name was, steps closer to Harry. “Are you a fucking perv?”
Statistically, this guy with his brute force and reactivity was probably more likely to be a perv over the years than Harry. But Harry doesn’t think it’s a good time to say that.
“Anyway,” YN says and with that all eyes are on her. “Apology not accepted. I’m over this let’s go.”
She walks away from him, Raina eyes him and follows. Their friend gives Harry the stink eye and follows too. Brett’s left. He shrugs and finally leaves Harry alone.
Little by little the breath comes back to his lungs and with shaky steps Harry exits the building. Some students lingering in the hall stare as he goes, probably the audience to what almost went down. And this was why Harry hated YN.
***
Over the next week Harry tries to be less intellectually superior to YN and practices looking her in the eye. He doesn’t know why it was so hard.
And it surprises him when the words coming out of her mouth aren’t entirely superficial and basic. But she continues to verbally abuse and belittle him and Harry continues to take it, his ire growing more by the day.
Just on Tuesday, at lunch she’d sent one of her boyfriends to sit at his table where he threatened Harry. Harry’s friend had stared at his phone the whole time, traitor. And yesterday YN had listed for him all the ways he could improve his appearance during class.
“Your hair could use a nice trim,” she tells him. “And your glasses are so 1970s. Like not in a trendy way. And honestly Harry why do you wear clothes that are too big and too old. Like seriously…”
It was hard not to be a know-it-all when that’s what she wanted to spend her time talking about.
“My appearance isn’t really a priority for me,” Harry had said hoping to shut her up.
“It really should be. Hey,” she’d called out to a friend of hers in class. “Don’t you think Harry’s style is sad?”
“Him?” Her friend had asked, like she wasn’t sure if she was supposed to say it in front of him. Harry had burned with embarrassment. “Yeah I reckon he could use a makeover.”
“Yeah maybe then he’d get a girlfriend. Get his nose out of his books.”
They laughed and the sound was haunting. Harry stayed staring at his book, gritting his teeth. He’d never had a girlfriend, gone on two dates in his life. It didn’t usually bother him but somehow YN made it feel like an open wound.
On Thursday, they have another research period.
“And how are we doing here?” Ms. Easton leans down and balances on their table. Harry and YN opted for a table and books this period.
“Good,” YN sits up. “Just finishing our research.”
“Good,” Ms. Easton smiles. “Did you two decide on a topic?”
Harry doesn’t look but he can feel her rolling her eyes. “Yeah. Harry wanted to do the royal family and their war legacy.”
“Hm.”
Harry was sensitive to feedback. When you’re smart you don’t get a lot of criticism, and when you do, it’s a hard pill to swallow. That’s why he was so sensitive to the tone of his teacher’s voice. He looks up to her. Was it just him or did she look a bit disappointed.
“S’not a good topic?” Harry asks. YN glances at him.
“Well,” the teacher crosses an arm over her abdomen and waves the other hand. She was choosing her words. “I was hoping putting the two of you together would produce an interesting project. Something out of the ordinary.”
“Oh.” Harry feels his grade flash in front of his eyes. Well, not flash but plummet.
“Hmph,” YN says in satisfaction. “Well Harry here felt very strongly about the topic.”
“Okay,” Ms. Easton pursues her lips. “It is a good topic. I’m looking forward to hearing all about it at the end of the month!”
As soon as their teacher is out of hearing range YN turns to Harry.
“I told you so.”
With that, she gets out of her seat and walks away. Out of the library, swiping the hall pass on her way out.
Suddenly he was hot. Very hot. Harry could feel the sweat dampen his shirt and he pulls the collar away from his neck. His project was disappointing? He was doing something wrong?
He stumbles up and finds Ms. Easton.
“Yes Harry?” She addresses him when she’s done with the pair she’d been talking to.
“Um what you said,” Harry clears his throat. “About the project. And pairing me with YN. I don’t understand…should we change it?”
“Up to you two to decide!” She says vaguely. “I can’t pick your topics for you. And you should only change it if you think you have enough time.”
“But our topic is disappointing?” Harry didn’t understand why Ms. Easton would make those comments and not just tell them upfront what she wants.
“No not at all!” she guides Harry to a bookshelf where it’s quieter. “War is a classic topic. But it’s also a very…straightforward topic do you understand?”
Classic was good. Classic was timeless, is that not what she wanted!?
“Harry,” she chides when he continues staring at her. “Listen. You’re a bright kid. Really, proper smart. I know you’ll do amazing in your future regardless of what I say in this class.”
It was YN. There was a but coming and she was going to say something about YN.
“But I’ve had a few bright kids in my class before. The thing about history is it repeats and the pattern I see is that there’s a creative energy even in something like history that’s lost on big brains like yours. That’s why I paired you with YN. I thought you two would complement the way you think really well. I was hoping to see a new topic come out of it. That’s not to say your current topic isn’t fabulous. I think if you want to continue with it, I’m excited to learn more.”
Harry doesn’t have anything to say. Actually, he’s embarrassed. This whole time he thought being partnered with YN was because she was failing or doing horribly. When really it was because the teacher thought he could use some help. Intellectual superiority 100, Harry 0.
“You two are getting along right?” Ms. Easton probes.
“Yeah,” Harry lies.
“She’s letting you call the shots?” She asks casually.
“Ehm,” Harry wavers. He had taken the reigns immediately because he didn’t think she could handle them. He feels his face turn more pink.
“The great thing about this project is to collaborate. Throughout history some of the best things were brought from collaborating…”
Harry zones her out and looks back at their desk. YN is still not there. Maybe she was skipping. But he spots her bag, that wasn’t true.
“Oh I better go help out your classmate,” Ms. Easton points to where someone has their hand up. “You’re alright?”
“Yeah,” Harry shakes the funk off. Maybe he’ll listen to YN more now but they only had a week and a half and it would be crazy to change their topic now.
But as he sits in his seat and waits for YN to return, to collaborate with, he feels it again. The sinking feeling. Like something was his fault.
YN was the mean girl but he hasn’t been the most friendly either.
After another 10 minutes go by he gets out of his seat and grabs the second hall pass.
He spots around the toilets, moves through the halls, and makes his way back to a stairwell. There YN leans against a wall on her phone. She doesn’t look up as he walks down until he stands in front of her.
“Oh,” the glow of her phone moves off her face, muffled by her sweater. “I thought you were random.”
“Are you coming back?” Harry asks. Still, his eyes flit from her face to her neck, settling on the wall behind her.
“Why does it matter? You’re doing the project with or without me.”
His throat feels like it’s stuffed with cotton as he swallows. He should apologize. He should-
“Why are you so awkward for?” She demands. “Like. You’re smart and all but you’re kind of weird.”
Nevermind. He was so not apologizing.
“Hello? And then you go so quiet when I say anything direct. You can be smart as shite but you’re not making it anywhere if you can’t even talk to a girl without staring a hole into the space beside her.”
Harry’s mum always said to be himself. This was him, smart (nerdy—fine), quiet, awkward, and bookish. But it wasn’t easy to be this way when girls like YN existed. They were confident and loud, and she called him out like his sister did. But she was nothing like her. She was beautiful and she knew it. And she was rude, but maybe her mum told her to be herself too and this was it.
“What are you thinking?” She demands.
“What?” Harry asks in surprise.
“I want to know what the fuck you’re thinking in that big brain! You’re so awkward! Jeez!”
“I’m-I-why?”
“I don’t get you.” She gives him a once over. “So? What were you thinking?“
“Nothing.”
“Bullshit.”
“Seriously I-“
“Tell me.”
“I…” Harry trails away. He turns away from her and walks to the other end of the stairwell, pivots, and stands a few feet in front of her. “I was just wondering if this is who you really are.”
“Me? How am I?” Eyes narrowed, she sounds both curious and defensive.
“Really?” Harry meets her eye. “You’ve got such an attitude, you’re rude and loud and pushy, and I don’t know why you don’t like me but you’re always so condescending so I was just wondering if that’s who you are. Like when your mum says to be yourself, is that who you chose?”
Her mouth drops, then it snaps shut and her arms cross over in defence.
“You know why I don’t like you?” She asks. “Because you’ve got an attitude. You’re rude and pushy and condescending to fuck. So let me ask you—is that who you are? Is that who mummy tucks into bed each night?”
Harry’s impressed how she’s turned it around on him. He doesn’t take it seriously until she breaks eye contact and looks away.
“If I listened to my mom’s advice, I would be a bloody doormat in this place. I’d be used and discarded like a wet wipe. I have to be rude and pushy. And don’t even get me started on boys like you, who call girls pushy just because they know what they want. I can’t afford to be who I am, like you can, because I don’t have the privilege of being a bloke.”
They have a stare-off, mostly Harry is just surprised at everything coming out of her mouth. She goes on.
“I know who you are Harry. I know you’ve got a mum and sister you’re close with. I’ve seen you around town. For someone with two women like that in your life you can look up to, you sure are a misogynistic prick.”
Harry’s left stunned. He didn’t think she ever noticed him let alone know him. He replays her words, her glimpse of vulnerability. If her words were an essay, there would be no red ink. It was hard for him to accept but she was right. From the start, when Ms. Easton paired them he made a million assumptions about her. That were all proven wrong. And Ms. Easton was right too: he was smart and good at being smart but maybe there was more than that.
“Now you’re quiet again!?” YN sounds defeated.
“No wait,” Harry speaks up before she leaves. “I’m sorry. Seriously.”
“Yeah whatever,” she rolls her eyes. “I’m over this.”
“Actually,” he steps in the same direction she does as she heads for the door. She stops in surprise. “Actually I am sorry. I was being intellectually superior. You’re smart too. I’m sorry.”
She looks at him warily, like he was going to laugh at her and tell her he was joking. When he doesn’t, when he maintains eye contact even though it kills him inside she backs away. Her face relaxes, like she’s accepted backing down. It was quite a sight for Harry, to see YN the Mean Girl who’s been making the last couple weeks hell for him, transform into something softer. Something that—he was still nervous to look at for too long, but one he could look at a little easier.
“I don’t want to write about the royal family and their fucking war legacy.”
Harry wasn’t expecting that.
“That’s basic as hell, I’m falling asleep just imagining us presenting it. It’s like buying drugstore when we can be buying Sephora.”
She squints at him, waiting for a rebuttle but he lets her have this one. After what Ms. Easton said, Harry was realizing that being smart didn’t mean you were right all the time. And he also had no idea what her example meant.
“Wow. Nothing?”
“No, I agree.” Harry smiles, a little embarrassed but wow. Her mouth splits into a grin and it changes her whole face. She’s suddenly younger, carefree, in that moment as Harry remembers how to breathe, he sees the person her mother tells her to be.
“What?” The staircase dims as she takes the smile back. “Are you going to go back to being mute.”
“No,” I was just admiring how beautiful you looked right now. Maybe you’re not who I thought you were. But you’re also way out of my league so now I have to act cool about it. “I just don’t know if we have time-“
“Stop.” She puts her hand up and walks towards him, back to the doors. “I’m going to come up with a pitch so good I’ll be picking your jaw off the floor and wiring it shut again. And…you can pitch your sad topic to me. The best one wins.”
“But we can just vote our own,” Harry points out the flaw in her plan, ignoring her threat.
“I think we’re both mature enough to hear each other out?” She opens the door back to the hall and Harry scrambles through it to keep up.
“I know I am,” Harry says it before he can think. Uh oh.
“You’re cheeky,” YN eyes him but she doesn’t look upset. Actually, she looks delighted. “Not just a quiet nerd hm?”
Harry shrugs, they had really been their stereotypes the last few weeks.
“So what you said before, you think I’m smart?”
“Well, yeah. I guess.” Harry felt uncomfortable now on the spot.
“So like you think I can be the future prime minister?”
“I…don’t know about that.” Harry side eyes her to notice she’s smiling. She was teasing him.
The bell rings out as they near the library.
“Talk to you tomorrow,” she says to him. She shoots him another smile and Harry tries to memorize it, second guessing he ever thought she was unattractive.
***
That Friday it’s like Harry and YN never had that conversation. She ignores him in the halls as usual, her friends sneer at him when they catch him looking their way. As much as Harry didn’t want to be disappointed, he was. Why did he think anything was going to be different?
But he couldn’t stop thinking about her. Her smile was a loop in his head any time his mind wanders. No wonder their whole grade was in love with her.
“You’re staring. Again.” Harry’s mate says at lunch. This time Harry looks away quickly, embarrassed. “What’s going on with you?”
“Nothing,” he says quickly. “She’s just been making my life hell since we partnered up.”
“Yeah I heard those guys roughened you up at lunch the other day.”
They didn’t. But they did aim a basketball around the net as Harry was walking by yesterday and it had hit him. His glasses had fallen off but luckily nothing broke.
“Just one more week,” Harry mutters. Earlier this week he was counting down the days. Now he wasn’t so sure.
When the bell rings signalling the end of lunch, Harry is surprised when YN falls in line with him to their class.
“Pitch ready?” She asks. She smelled amazing like flowers and tea. Focus.
“Yep,” Harry didn’t put much effort into it. He didn’t have the same passion he did before and he was curious what YN had.
They get the last 20 minutes of class to work on their project. YN sits behind Harry so he turns when their time starts.
“Me first,” YN brings out a binder. She pulls out a folded piece of paper that she hands. He opens it and glitter falls into his lap.
“Ugh!” Harry jumps up but despite that his crotch sparkles. “What is this?”
YN’s eyes are lit up and she hides her giggles behind her hand. Harry stares, turning pink. Why would she do that?
“I’m so-“ she covers her mouth again. “I’m sorry!” She’s shaking as she tries to stop laughing. It’s kind of contagious and Harry cracks a smile.
“My pants are covered in glitter,” he deadpans which send her head onto the table as she shakes with laughter.
“It was just supposed to lighten the mood ohmygod,” YN can barely finish her sentence.
That was it. Harry tries to pick up whatever glitter he can, using the paper (he realizes it was her pitch) as a dustpan. He taps her behind the shoulder and she jumps up to turn, in that moment he dumps the paper on her and sits back down in satisfaction.
“Now we’re even,” Harry tell her. Her mouth is open in shock.
“No!” She tries to dust it off but her crotch, that Harry glances at, is also shimmering. “We were even after I did that to you! This is! Oh my god.”
She stands over Harry, her eyes glancing at his pants. A snicker escapes. Then she’s back in her seat laughing.
“I have to say your pitch is not going well,” Harry reminds her.
“Oh my god,” she tried to get serious but she’s still grinning. Harry doesn’t mind.
“Should I go first?” He asks.
“No no I got this. Okay. The royal family and…their influence on food. Now before you think it’s stupid did you know the matriarch actually has a list of forbidden foods. And if we go back, and look at the countries they invaded we can see…” YN grows serious, but passionate, as she begins pitching the topic. And before anything just her passion alone convinces Harry they had to do this topic. “From land to table.”
“Okay.” Harry says.
“Okay? Like that was just okay?”
“No, I vote your topic.”
“Oh my god really?” She lights up and it’s blinding. Harry wanted to make her light up every chance he got. Focus.
“Yeah I think it’s interesting. And different. But we only have a week.”
“That’s okay!” YN opens her binder and pulls out another sheet. “I did a bunch of research. I couldn’t really sleep last night cuz of…anyway. So our library has all these books that can help. And we can spend the weekend catching up right? We can meet at the local library and work. So we’re caught up by Monday.”
Wow. She really thought this through.
“Isn’t that too nerdy for you?” Harry has to ask. Didn’t she have something cooler to do on the weekend.
“Oh my god,” she rolls her eyes. That was the YN he knew. “Just because I’m not a nerd doesn’t mean I don’t care about my grades. You should know my lowest grade has been 82 this year.”
Wow. Even though Harry never scored below 95 that was still impressive coming from her. Which it shouldn’t be, he reminds himself. She was smart—just in a different way.
“Okay let’s do it!” Harry was excited. He suddenly understood what Ms. Easton was trying to say, he was missing creativity.
“Yay!” She squeezes his arm and Harry’s never felt more aware of his arm in his life. YN notices him freezing and she pulls away. “Sorry. I didn’t give you my cooties did I?”
She was quick. But it was funny and Harry can’t help but let out a snort.
“Is that a laugh? Are you laughing at something I said about you?”
Harry shakes his head and turns in his seat but his face is stuck in the grin. YN continues to heckle him from behind but she’s interrupted by the bell.
“Give me your number,” she says as he packs up. “So we can coordinate tomorrow.”
“Oh yeah,” Harry pulls up his contacts and hands her his phone. “Just put yours in.”
“Okay, I’m texting myself too,” she types for a while and then hands it back. It’s only later when she texts him at the end of the day does he click her contact.
Future Prime Minister YN ❤️
The picture is one of her from below with a serious face on. When he squints he realizes she’s flipping him off. It’s funny, and Harry feels like he sees her now. Even though she couldn’t always be herself like he could, Harry now understood her enough to recognize the glimpses of herself she was giving him.
It’s destined that every nerd falls for the mean girl. Harry never believed that until now. As YN becomes more recognizable to him, his crush grows a little more. He had to nip this in the bud, he realizes. Because she would never feel the same way. In a million years. But maybe they could be friends. Maybe it was time for Harry to discover who he could be when he wasn’t spending all his time being nerdy. He had a lot to learn from her, he realizes. And the one thing he was good at was studying.

What are some underrated fandoms that you’re in? I know most of your page is Hazbin hotel content, since it seems to be your longest Masterlist, and I wanna send in requests for other fandoms for you if you don’t mind!
I feel like I’m in a lot of fandoms, like I feel like sometimes I have the most bizarre interests, but I do wish some of the fandoms I liked were more well known, just because sometimes I get asks and I get so excited when people actually know what I’m talking about and like what I like you know? I wanna clean up my master lists a bit, just because I feel like some of them are messy, like the Hazbin Hotel Masterlist. I update it so much because I’m constantly writing for the fandom, which I love don’t get me wrong, but I update the Masterlist so much I just feel like its pointless to clean it up when I know the format is gonna fall apart again.
But anywho, here are a list of fandoms I’m in that I would love to write for! These are also on my pinned post!
