The chart does not capture the astonishing fact that these accomplishments were achieved under brutal sanctions imposed by the world’s superpower. Viva la revolución.
They also have ad-free TV ✌️📺 (you don’t need commercials with Socialism).

Hey History Tumblr! I’m looking for resources in regards to the lives of people in Venice during the 15th century. The classes, economics, jobs, what were family laws. Age of marriage, big families (if any). How did the people live, festivals, rituals. I’m finding a bunch of things about the Ottomans and the trade but I’m hoping for the equivalent of ‘widow and ward in medieval England’ type books for Venice. What were the households like, inheritance? Noble class vs merchant classes, etc. books are love, documentaries also great (I have a dvd set from my trip to Venice but it’s currently packed away and more of a high level overview)
Tagging history friends even though I know you’re British history: @theladyelizabeth @mihrsuri @harritudur @english-history-trip @queenemaker

History community, my dears! Today, I present to you…
A ✨request✨.
It would be odd to ask anyone aside from you, and you’ll find out why very shortly.
Essentially, if any of you have any historical clothing patterns, may I request that you quite possibly send some to me? Or, of course, you could simply repost here with them or comment with them. I would like to start sewing some historical clothing for myself.
Now you can see how this would be quite an odd request to those who are not, as we are here, a gaggle of history nerds. (I say “gaggle of history nerds” with immense amounts of love, as I’m sure you all know by now.)
Many thanks! God bless, <3

Also another thing I know nothing about and not sure how to go about learning: evolution and human history.
I know the basics, that over billions of years life evolved via mutations in a variety of ways based on surroundings and survival, but I would like to know at least a high schoolers understanding of the subject since I was deprived of that in my evangelical education. History was pretty good overall but extremely biased, plus it’s been over ten years since I was in school so it’s hard to recall anything.
Like, humans. We were very hairy regular great apes. What happened to make us less hairy smarter apes? How far back do you gotta go to find Neanderthals and Homo sapiens common ancestor? Also Why are there no mammoths, did early humans really genocide them or was there a another problem for them after the Ice Age?
Also I think human civilization as we know it that’s recorded well started near the Euphrates and Sumer in the lower Middle East, right? so how’d we get there from Africa. And Why didn’t big civilizations develop in other parts of Africa besides Egypt? Also, Why did Europe take over everything, Europeans aren’t any smarter than other kinds of people, why and how did they advance so quickly into the conquering skill tree and why were they so successful at this awful talent.
In short I have many many questions and now at almost thirty and finally getting to a better point in my mental health I realize I want to be someone who knows stuff about the world I live in from actual material and not Twitter and tumblr and Facebook posts that are often misinformation.
TLDR: if anyone knows good books and articles on these subjects ( evolution and human history) let me know. Google is full of AI junk and SEO ads and shit so besides Wikipedia I don’t really trust what I search up on there.

History-Tumblr Question
Tumblr hive-mind, does anyone know of any good resource of historical research?
In this instance I'm looking for english-language resources regarding Mediaeval Novgorod/ Pskov and its surrounding regions, especially culture/clothing/fighting habits. I have to learn a lot in a very short amount of time and it is a struggle.

Fun fact: Samuel Clemens, better known as Mark Twain was born November 30, 1835, in Florida, Missouri. That same day Halley's Comet could be seen lighting up the night sky, two weeks after the perihelion. In 1909 Mark Twain commented, "I came in with Halley's Comet in 1835. It is coming again next year, and I expect to go out with it. It will be the greatest disappointment of my life if I don't go out with Halley's Comet. The Almighty has said, with no doubt: 'Now here are these unaccountable freaks; they came in together, they must go out together.'" Twain would pass away on April 21, 1910, in Stormfield, Redding, Connecticut, one day after Haley's comet reached its perihelion.

I want to do my history project on some topic in Queer Indian History, can anyone please help! Things to keep in mind:
I need the topic to be extremely specific, i.e I would need a time period and a place
I would also need very reliable sources, preferably books I can consult that I can get for free (can't order them at my place as parents would not like that)
Sources have to be PG 13, so I can't use the Kamasutra as much as I would like to lmao
Again, I would need reliable and accessible sources, perhaps those that don't require a lot of proficiency as I am new at this!

Hey, History Tumblr, need some help. I’ve been thinking of adding epigraphs (quotations included at the start of a book) to each volume of my Hamilton historical fiction series, ideally each being a quote about Hamilton from someone else talking about some aspect of Hamilton as a person (a character trait or some fancy comparison) that would allude to events within the book. For instance, this quote shared by @46ten that I’m considering for one of the later volumes. I am aware that there is a diary entry from someone directly comparing Hamilton to Cicero (during either the Constitutional Convention or the New York Ratifying Convention I believe?) that I’d also love to use, but can’t find it.
Here is The American Icarus volume breakdown of events for reference in regards to what I’m looking for:
Vol. 1: 1768-1778 (Hamilton’s childhood up through the Battle of Monmouth)
Vol. 2: 1778-1782 (Post-Monmouth up to Hamilton leaving for his congressional term in 1782-83)
Vol. 3: 1782-1788 (Hamilton’s congressional term up through the New York Ratifying Convention)
Vol. 4: 1788-1795 (Hamilton’s tenure as Secretary of Treasury)
Vol. 5: 1795-1804 (Hamilton’s return to his law practice up to his death)
If anyone has any suggestions for some good quotes I’d love to hear them, and thank you so much in advance to anyone who decides to help out—you’re amazing! If not, I’d love if you could share this post so others can see it :)

You ever wonder about nonbinary people in medieval times, what were they doing. Were they studying alchemy or throwing turnips at people or what.
Most posts about trans history are either about binary trans people, 20th century America or both.
I know about Public Universal Friend, who else was there, it seems like they are the only nonbinary historical figure that gets talked about

Question for historical tumblr. Are there any good sources for reading up on queer history during the early 1800s in England?
For various reasons my googling has come up short and I could use an extra hand. Anything specifically pertaining to terminology, general attitudes, and symbols used within the queer community during that time period would be much appreciated. Thanks!
