You shake your head, and he chuckles, a crooked smirk that confuses you in the best way possible. He loosens his firm grip around your hand, but you still leave your touch right there, rubbing over his chest until he adds,

“A heart's a heavy burden.” The warmth of your fingers sprawls across his torso, his eyes closing. “Especially if you’re me.”

what’s fireworks?

it’s a modern au oneshot with heizou, with a college-exchange-students-pining kind of vibe. it’s almost finished, to be honest, but as we well know i’m currently preoccupied with writing hmc. maybe i’ll finish and post it in between finishing the first draft and the first rewrite of hmc. i’ve posted a snippet of it before, actually, and i’ll post the same one here with a little more added, because i think it’s the funniest interaction in the fic.

You passed your weight from foot to foot, hovering there awkwardly: you didn’t want to say goodbye just yet.  “You know, I could walk you back,” you offered. “I doubt it’s dangerous because most people are at the festival, but better safe than sorry, right?” A grin spread across Heizou’s face and brightened his eyes. “Oh? Are you volunteering to be my big, strong bodyguard?” “Big, strong bodyguard at your service,” you confirmed, folding your arms across your chest, “to keep the damsel from harm.” Heizou pressed his hand to his forehead in a fake swoon. “Oh, my, I can barely stand. Please, my good knight, save this poor, helpless—ah!” He tipped backwards too far in his swoon and stumbled into a surprised-looking tourist who dropped their gohei at the collision. He apologised and picked himself back up while you wheezed with laughter in the background. “What the fuck,” you snorted once he rejoined you. “I couldn’t handle your manliness,” he explained miserably. “I’m sorry.” You shrugged, as if to say, fair enough. “You know what, I can forgive that.” “Should we get going, then, my shining-armoured knight?”  “We shall.” Maybe it was the festival food getting to your head, but on a whim, you boldly held out your arm to Heizou. The thing was that you hadn’t been expecting him to actually take it. He hooked his elbow around yours, flashing you a confident grin which made your heart stutter, and bumped your shoulders together. Jitters shot down your arm from the contact. A teasing slyness crept into Heizou’s voice. “What, is my bodyguard getting nervous? Tsk. How unmanly of you.” “Be quiet,” you grumbled. “The manliest people get nervous too sometimes, you know.”

My top 5 fics by kudos…. Yo, I heard him everyday (Encanto oneshot), my very first fic Quake (Umbrella Academy, complete multichapter), my long fic baby The Time Traveller’s Life (Umbrella Academy, 170k WIP), my other will-hopefully-grow-up-into-a-longish-fic Obedience Suite (in A minor) (Umbrella Academy, 30+k) and finally Five’s first displacement (Umbrella Academy oneshot - prologue to TTL)

I do respond to comments! I love getting comments, and I love responding to them. You’ve shared your reaction with me, I want to share my reaction to your reaction! (or at the very least say thank you and let you know I read your comment!) I’ve fallen into the habit now of generally responding to comments on a previous chapter when I upload the next one.

What fic has the angstiest ending…. hmmm…. Farewell and The Hunt both ends in character death, and by default Five in the Apocalypse Sob Stories are all angsty AF

Ooh the happiest ending. Of Ghoulies and Spoons is just fluff, and The Tails of the Umbrella Aquarium has an angsty start and a happy ending

Do I write crossovers? I certainly write AUs / Fusions, those are my jam. For the Umbrella Academy I’ve done Daemon AU, Howls Moving Castle (would this class as a retelling perhaps, putting TUA characters into the HMC world and adapting it to fit?), and Ella Enchanted AU, and of course a Time Traveller’s WIfe AU. Have I writtena strict crossover where characters from two universes meet and interact? No.

I got a book mark on TTL with a trollish note (‘Zzzzzzzzz’) - they had gone through a bunch of fics and given them rude comments. But thats the worst of it.

I do not write smut.

Not that I know of. I hope not.

Somebody once asked if they could translate my fic, but then never responded or let me know if they actually did or not, so I don’t think so.

I have co-written a fic, Klaus’ moving castle with the wonderful @destinyandcoins

My fave ship…. I do read a lot of Zukka. Also ineffable husbands.

A WIP I want to finish but never will���.well never say never. I hope to finish all my WIPS I’ve got up as WIPs. But I did post the start of a Everyday AU and labelled it clearly as free for adoption / inspiration as I just don’t see me having the time to ever really get going with that one. But who knows, it could happen.

My writing strengths… Complex timelines and time-travelling shenanigans. My devious mind and organisation skills combine nicely for that. I also can turn my hand to a mean drabble when the inspiration strikes.

Writing weaknesses…I can go pages and pages without including dialogue. I need to remember people do really be saying things to themselves/each other.

Thoughts on dialogue in other languages on AO3… it very much depends on the context for me. The odd word or phrase used sparingly for effect can really aid in and elevate characterisation or world setting for me. But it can be a fine line between an effect and a gimmick. When long dialogue is written out and then translated for me as the reader I personally wish it was just left in english and clarified in the speech tag that it was said in Spanish/Elvish/Whatever-ish.

The Umbrella Academy was my first fandom, and I’m still there now!

I have written a short oneshot for Avatar Last Airbender, but there is a longfic idea bouncing around my brain (another AU….lol) that would be nice to get out one day. I’d also kind of like to write for Temeraire, but I’m really not sure I could nail that old english voice. I am far too modern I think!

The Time Traveller’s Life is my baby. I’ve put so much work into that one. But I have other favourites too for other reasons. But forced to pick, it’s TTL.

Morning Cuddles

Pairing: Howl x Reader

Note: I watched Howls Moving Castle a few days ago and he gave me such big mlm vibes that I had to do this immediately.

Different sounds ran throughout the whole castle. Pots clanging, Calcifer rambling, things falling from time to time.

All very familiar and, in a way, homely sounds. You were used to them after all, it happened on the daily and you wouldn't have it any other way.

Calcifer kept on rambling on as you clean up in the kitchen and start preparing breakfast.

"Why can't Howl move this god damn castle by himself, I always have to be doing all the hard work you know? Its infuriating, im an incredibly powerful fire demon and this is how he treats me. You know, you should be helping me man, but of course Howl probably got you wrapped around his finger, eh?"

He said that to you atleast once a day, maybe each few hours as well. At this point you learned to drone out the sound of his voice, knowing he won't stop unless you somehow get him out of there.

Its been years and he still does it, he acts as if he wasnt the one who decided to stay. After all him and Howl werent "connected" anymore. If he wanted to leave, he could whenever he wanted.

You werent very concerned or even trying to get him out so, he'll have to wait.

Suddem footsteps were heard, and as you look up a figure walks down.

Coat hanging off his shoulders, dark hair draping his face, there stood Howl. Beautiful as ever, there was never a chance where he couldn't take your breath away.

"Hello, darling" he says while walking behind you.

Giving you a kiss on the cheek before nuzzling into you. Warm cheek resting on your shoulder.

"Good morning love" you say while cracking some eggs.

Calcifer reaches his fiery hands from underneath the pan, effectively swiping at you jokingly while shouting, "hey im still here ya know?!"

Howl lets out a laugh before pressing a kiss to your neck and moving off of you, giving a greeting to Calcifer and then moving on to helping you with breakfast.

"Now now Calcifer, is it a crime to show some affection to my husband, hm?"

Calcifer grumbles before shoving his face down under the pan, no longer wanting to talk to the two of you.

Howl chuckles at his antics and decided to annoy him more, grabbing your face and spreading kisses everything.

Cheeks, forehead, nose, eyelids, you name it. In the end he plants a soft kiss on your lips and almost makes you forget you were cooking in that moment.

You playfully push his chest a little so you guys could stop and actually prepare some breakfast but he whines, he didnt want to.

In a snap of his fingers you now both sat at a small sofa near the kitchen, him cuddling you and nuzzling his face back into the nape of your neck.

"Howl the food-"

As soon as you say that different ingredients start floating and in the blink of an eye your breakfast is making itself.

Not something that didnt occur, but it certainly wasn't how you normally prepared breakfast. Howl, of course, being how he is he just wanted your attention at the moment.

He got incredibly clingy when it was morning time.

"You better cuddle your husband or ill become your ex-husband soon enough" he says mumbling against your skin.

Of course, as dramatic as always.

You start stroking his hair and he lets out a small sigh.

You now rested on the sofa with Howl on top of you. Giving him a small kiss on the top of his head before resting your chin on top of it. You could already imagine the contempt smile he had on his face right now, life has been so good since you met.

Of course, nothing is perfect, but you were both there for eachother countless of times.

Soft music played in the background as the both of you cuddle on the sofa, it very faint but you could stoll hear it.

And in that moment you felt complete bliss, what a life you lived.

May I Have This Dance?

Synopsis: Howl is attending a masquerade ball and notices you off to the side, seemingly down. (Inspired by an audio posted on YouTube by Anigomi, entitled Waltz with Howl)

You had been dragged to this ball by your sister, who wanted desperately for you to socialize more instead of working nonstop. It was also partially because she had wished for you to meet someone you liked and get married so that she didn't have to deal with you anymore.

So, reluctantly you dressed in your finest clothes and donned an elaborate handmade mask. Though, when you got to the ball, nobody seemed interested in dancing with you. No one approached you or even noticed your presence, flocking to your more social and attractive sister.

Disheartened, you opted to stand off to the side, by the entrance, and watch the others dance with longing eyes.

Little did you know, someone did, in fact, notice your presence. A certain wizard, who had arrived shortly before you and your sister, noticed you immediately when you walked through the door. He noticed your beautiful (E/C) eyes that shone through your mask and your beautifully crafted, yet obviously handmade clothes. He noticed your almost... shy demeanor. He watched carefully as everyone ignored you in favor of your sister and watched as you stood off to the side, looking discouraged. He decided that he did not like that look on your beautiful face and determined to himself that he would rectify your situation immediately.

So, he gracefully made his way over to you, tapping you on your shoulder.

"Hello, my dear. Whatever are you doing over here alone?" he questioned suavely.

You looked up, startled. You hadn't expected anyone to approach you at all that night. But here was this beautiful man, actually talking to you! It was startling to say the least, but you resolved to answer him nonetheless.

"I'm simply watching the people dance," you said, voice laced with melancholy.

"Ah, I see. Why aren't you dancing, yourself?" he asked.

"Well, you see, nobody has asked me to dance, and I rather think it would be foolish of me to dance on my own. Why, I'd end up looking like a mad person!" you explained.

"Ah, rather unfortunate, isn't it? Say, how would you like to dance with me?" he offered.

"Oh, I couldn't possibly. I'm afraid I'm rubbish at dancing," you muttered.

"It's not that difficult to learn," he promised, holding out his hand in invitation.

You eventually agreed after much persuasion, and he led you to the dance floor as the song changed over from La Parfum de Fleurs to Waltz of the Flowers. You felt your nerves begin to rise, but your dance partner quelled your fears with a gentle squeeze of your hand, reassuring you that you weren't alone.

As the song started, he led you into the dance and you did your best to keep up with his steps. It was easier than you had imagined. Just match his pace and copy the moves of the others around you. It was a never-ending series of the same steps in time with the music, so it was easy to catch onto. In no time, you two were dancing like old partners that had danced many songs together. It was safe to say that you were having the time of your life.

After the song ended, Howl escorted you off the dance floor and out to the balcony, where he proceeded to remove his mask and request that you remove yours, asking for your name as well. You complied with his request, taking off your mask and giving hi your name, to which he gave you his name.

"You know, I quite enjoyed our time together this evening. If you permit, may we meet again? Perhaps for lunch sometime this week?" he asked.

You nodded, giving him a date and the two of you proceeded to talk until the ball was drawing to a close and you were struggling to hold back yawns of exhaustion. You bid him farewell as your sister dragged you off to your home and left him with a promise of more time to be spent together.

I said I would rec some fluffy HMC fics so here you go

There’s such a stark difference between movie!verse and book!verse obviously, but nonetheless people manage to write both beautifully. This one combines powerful-but-oblivious-witch!Sophie from the book with war-resisting-bird-monster!Howl from the movie, with old woman Sophie finding monster!Howl bleeding on the roof and yelling at him for being a self-sacrificing idiot. I need five more of these immediately, thanks.

This one’s just a straight retelling of the book from Howl’s perspective and positively nails DWJ’s narrative voice. I haven’t read the book in a while so it was cool to experience it again from just a slightly different angle, and to see a bit more of Howl’s thought processes and little solo trips to Wales.

There’s a ton of absolutely sickeningly sweet fics of just sheer domestic fluff, of which my favorite might be this short oneshot of Sophie (sort of) breaking the news to Howl that they’re going to be parents. I just read the last section of it again and am grinning all over again.

One thing a good number of fic writers and I seem to agree on is that there’s never enough Wales/Ingary fish-out-of-water shenanigans, so I positively eat up stuff like this fic of Howl dragging Sophie to meet the Rugby Club, or this one of them planning a separate wedding for each world. I seriously can never get enough of this stuff.

If you don’t mind a super horny fic, this one is multichapter and well written and is basically just Sophie being pissed that she can’t find some alone time to be intimate with her damn fiance. It’s heartwarming and very funny (like all the best fics on this list).

Here’s another movie!verse one that reads more like a fairy tale and is just kinda different and dreamlike and rad. It takes the concept of Howl eating women’s hearts and says “hey what if we took this line literally” and I gotta say I love the result.

But my favorite so far has got to be this sappy romcom-style story of their wedding day in which Howl’s emotions make his magic go a little haywire, Sophie suffers for the sake of tradition, and the two of them argue before finally discussing their insecurities. (Also Michael is very put-upon, Calcifer is fed up with human silliness, and Howl’s sister is present but extremely confused by how weird everyone is in this place.)

hey i know you talk about writing and WIPS and stuff like that, what have you been writing these days?

:0 HI HELLO honestly i talk more about what im writing on twitter lol, and its still kind of vague bUT

mostly ive just been working on oneshots and songs/poetry.

so this last month ive been working on a seven minutes in heaven bit, heres some out of context snippets i put on twt

so unfortunately this one might not see the light of day for a while bc as soon as its done im giving up ownership to taz to do as they please with it. but ive been working on that one for about a month now, and its been sO MUCH. just. so much, generally lol.

and then i have a few other ideas percolating as well, the next one of which ill probably start writing soon. ive been thinking about that gooselycharm art piece where they meet again in a bar, by accident, no train. and ive been considering writing a companion piece to it. just because i think about it all the time.

all im doing these days is oneshots! bc theyre more reasonable for me with my work schedule lmao. i potentially want to touch back on the hmc au but its just such a LARGE work that its been harder for me to keep my focus for it.

and then intermittently ive also been working on poems/ccj "songs." its been also kind of easier work bc i let an idea simmer for 8-48 hours and then i just start gnashing away at the google doc. i dont have many of them atm and my last one was actually a personal one about work and capitalism lol but yeah thats basically what ive been working on recently!!!
