man ok so. heres the thing. djkfds aaa idek how to talk abt this it makes me feel stupid fdshkfj. basically i have dx'd ocd and it affects my writing process a Lot. im exceptionally critical n perfectionistic when it comes to my writing, and when my ocd's at its worse, i can reread things literally hundreds of times. this makes my editing process a fucking nightmare. an ugly picture was... a Journey, i wrote the bulk of it in like a month or two bc i was Inspired, and that period of inspiration just flowing was super nice - but then i spent literally half a year obsessing over editing and figuring out a few sections i couldnt get to work and it was. rlly rlly unhealthy and messy. like that was a stereotypical Mentally Ill Artist™ moment for me 😭 i was unmedicated during that process and honestly im still impressed with myself for managing to finish and post it anyway.

and after posting it... this might not make sense unless u have ocd but that fic is, like, tainted in my head, and im not allowed to touch it as a result. which is RLLY fucking annoying and sad bc i wrote it for Me and it was a labor of love yanno, and i am proud of it, like during writing i was like 'man this is one of the best things ive written, im genuinely proud of this' and ive gotten some absolutely wonderful reception - but i cant exactly place why, idk if it was the torment of the editing process or a fear of experiencing that specific brand of anxiety again (if i reread it and run into errors it might kill me 😭)... either way at this point in time im legitimately unable to revisit that fic. and its been like this since i posted it, so... for nearly five months ;-; and im kind of having a similar experience with torchwood as a whole tbh. like my whole fandom experience + relationship with this fixation has been bastardized to all hell bc of ocd issues. it all feels very... dirty right now.

which fucking sucks, cuz torchwood's one of my fav fixations ive ever had, it became so important to me so fast and it's probably hit special interest territory at this point - but it sucks what a thin line it is between obsessing over a hyperfixation, and compulsively engaging with something. it sucks when the serotonin u get from smth also gets laced with pervasive anxiety. my recent main issue with ocd has been avoidance - i went from obsessively going thru torchwood clips to being unable to watch it at all bc the very thought of doing so makes me so anxious.

(so, tldr? my mental illness garbage is interfering w my interests and my ability to engage with fandom, to my chagrin, and that's why i haven't posted anything else.)

that being said: between april 2023 and now i have written 180k words of torchwood fanfic. im endlessly fascinated and inspired by these characters, particularly by owen who has lowkey proven to be my muse lol. (he sits in my mind palace on top of a, like, literal fancy ass corinthian pedestal and his one job is to sit still n look pretty and sad but instead he snarks down at me every time i walk passed and in return i squirt a water gun at him and occasionally throw tomatoes at him. it's a very mutually loving relationship.) and 180k words in, and literally hundreds of hours spent thinking about and talking about tw/owen, and im still fascinated by it/him, there are still soooo many things i wanna explore through writing with these characters that i adore so much. 57k of the 180k words is part of what will eventually be a sequel series to an ugly picture (which is meant to be a stand-alone, for the record, but towards the end of the writing process i went "Hm. Actually I Have More Ideas", and it became a whole 'verse heh). problem is i dont rmr the fic enough to continue the first sequel and currently i cant revisit it and take notes 🤡 so that project's on hold. as for the other stuff, it's a good mix of misc one-shots and full-on projects, and several things are pretty much done and could, if i were anyone else, easily be polished and posted.

but, as ive made clear, unfortunately writing (well, revising + editing) is an absolute nightmare for me. now, im recently back on medication after nearly two years of rawdogging it, and ive been having issues with that fff (namely constant pervasive exhaustion) - but im working to figure out a happy medium, so im HOPING, hell, praying, that once i level out ill be able to open my docs and sit down and finish things without it being a goddamn ordeal. editing's not rlly fun for anyone, but it fucking sucks when your absolute favorite hobby + mode of expression gets terrorized by a wiggity wack disorder.

first order of business, once im able, is a 15k owen/andy fic that's literally 90% done. i wanted to post it in june, for pride month, and then my brain decided to convince me i wasnt being coherent in the slightest and i was like, nah, i cannot make myself soldier through the editing project this time, i dont want this to get ruined the same way. but hopefully soon i can drop that and it will be epic and such 😎

so in summation uh (sorry im a known babbler fdshk but this is what happens when u send an ask to someone who wrote a 30k fic where literally nothing happens KJFSD. also sorry for literally trauma dumping unprompted 😭 i did the white woman in the kmart thing) ive written a ton of torchwood fic and i 100% intend to write a ton more but mental illness garbage is trying to sabotage shit so basically im taking a break from trying to post any of it until my brain lets me enjoy my damn interest in relative peace 👍but i definitely have a lot more fic on the way. just might take a while for it to see the light of day. hopefully not that long

ok long feedback time bc i like to talk. i haven’t done such a long in-depth feedback in months so i figured it was about time. it’s kinda all over the place but i’ll try to organize my thoughts.

here we go, time to disect this 12k monster masterpiece (also don’t mind the incoherent fangirling. it’s me. skrtskrt. you should be used to this)

my favorite parts:

the scene where the reader fakes shit to get younghoon to notice her. honestly? comedy GOLD. never kept it up but its something ive done in the past akajsk. needa start doing it again for attention though

secondly the part where the reader gains a different perspective from younghoon at the study session. i liked how you wrote out the dialogue, you could really sense how there was a bit of tension between the two characters with the insensitive reader. just the way you wrote the reader’s carefree personality overall in contrast wity younghoon’s slight coldness was my favorite. also you said i liked bad guys and wouldn’t like this fic (?) WRONG. i like all men LMAO.

ok i said this before but i truly mean it every single time. i love the way your words flow to express emotion. like you always focus on word building and all that stuff but i think everything about your writing is flawless. amazing writer things!!

OK FIRST OF ALL. You know a fic is GOOD when the author manages to make you fall in love with the lead character. (in this case Younghoon) idk how but you manage to do it everytime jiejie… like i’m falling for him bad. SECOND OF ALL. honestly as someone who doesn’t really believe in love but finds the idea temporally fun (iykyk lmao) but like i loved that whole paragraph. you didn’t jump straight into the i love you but instead dived deeper beyond the surface of the topic. considering the circumstances they dealt with, the way you described love was perfect. but fr tho, as time goes on, we’re always learning so everything we do and the people we meet will end up shaping our views on things (in this case love).

yes i turn up the charm on purpose sometimes for attention too HAHAHA it's fun. and please, what is there to like about men 😔 maybe just men written by women. but anyway, i kind of treated this like a character study? recently i've noticed that sometimes the characters sound the same in people's fics so i've been kind of self conscious about that happening in mine (though i think i've been doing a decent job at making each character distinct)

first quote: i barely paid attention to this part but hmm interesting. ok at least his characterization was on point then phew

the second quote!! not one of my faves but now that you've pointed it out, i kind of like it. it flows nicely. but omg i don't think i focus on world building AT ALL 😅 "you look hideous on me" was a bit of an exception but even the world building in that was unintentional. guess i generally prefer my fics straight to the point so world building seems kind of unnecessary at times. might've been nice to have some in this fic though, would've given it more dimension for sure.

the angst line... well, hurt people hurt people so. just him lashing out nbd, we all know it was false hAHAHA

the last quote is definitely one of my faves!! from the mc's perspective i would've thought younghoon had it all figured out, but then hearing him say that was like... wow. it's a fresh perspective that lets us peer into his mind and it's also quite true. his mindset towards life was what allowed him to forgive our mc and be understanding about what the mc did. hmm i guess i snuck a lot of my own ideologies into this fic, and maybe that's why i love it (and this younghoon) so much. and of course, never jump straight into the ily or the BOOM KISS part!! 😂

no, omg not straight up biology. it was my least fave of the three sciences in college LMAO. i did a bit of everything tho: majored in neuroscience, doubled minored in math and biochemistry, and added a lil physics specialization on top of that, then went into biostatistics afterwards but we don't talk about that part. (NERD!!!! i hear you, don't worry) but i guess you probably already know from reading my old works since i used to sneak in a ton of science references (deffs cringing at them now tho). so yeah if you ever need help with courses... hmu i guess LOL

as a general rule i don’t write angst cause i treat fic like escapism and so need happy endings. the angsty ends i have are usually in line with canon. duty-bound covers the end of potc3, where will and elizabeth are separated, so that’s pretty angsty. a little fall of rain covers queenie leaving jacob in the crimes of grindelwald.

ive written only one and am not likely to write another LOL

annexus is a fantastic beasts-bbc sherlock crossover. i was thinking about how similar queenie and sherlock are, and how sherlock’s deduction powers have about the same effect as queenie’s legilimency, so boom, this fic was born. also they have the same birthday! i posted the fic on that day last year

the line is from what we deserve!! it's a soulmate au where your timer counts down to the moment that you meet your soulmate!! bakugou's timer ends at USJ when he and kirishima attack kurogiri at the same time (impulsive kings <33) but kirishima's timer doesn't end until kamino because that's when he accepts himself as bakugous soulmate!! unfortunately, when bakugous timer has reached 0, he turned to see that kirishima's was still ticking and therefore believes that kirishima isn't his soulmate.

this line just,, idk. it's really sad. bakugou is such an action-driven character? if something doesn't go his way he Makes it go his way. he's got this insanely volatile quirk and he's got impeccable control of it!! but his love for kirishima isn't something that he can change and he's not going to ruin kirishima's chance of finding his own soulmate because he loves him and wants him to be happy. i really wanted to focus on how resigned he is? and how unusual that is for a character like him.

How do you conceptualize your ideas? (See specific moments like they're a movie, writing specific lines in your head, don't know until you put the words on paper, etc.) i tend to get inspiration from movies, books, poems, or other fics!!! sometimes one line just makes me go oh,, i want to write something like that,,, and then it helps me create an idea that makes me feel the same way?? i did this with control fraek!!!! i wanted a scenario where bakugou was cold and calculating and i was like hm. to do that he’d have to be focusing on something important. and from there i was able to flesh out the rest of the idea.

Which comes first: the pairing or the plot? with krbk its always always the pairing,, i'll be sitting there like wow <33 i love them <33 what if one of them had amnesia <33 (which, yes, wip!!) otherwise it's usually the plot!! and i slot in characters that i feel make sense

Have you ever used a prompt? yeah!! used a prompt for wlw week 2020 and it was fun as hell

Do you write around the story around a specific scene you want to get to or do you start from a plot idea definitely the first!!!! i almost always write like,,, a super messy scene thats 90% dialogue, keep it in my head, and then write the entire fic around that one moment

Do you find that you include a projection of some part of yourself in the way you write a character? a lot of the time when i write love confessions or love in general i'll have one of the characters think or say that the other person makes their head quiet? and it's because that's what i feel whenever i'm in love?? a quiet mind. i project on characters yeah but i think most of the projection actually goes to the way that i write love

What do you consider when writing your scenes? what goes into making the atmosphere and mood you want? to set a scene i do two things? the first is like,, the five senses bc that always sets the scene really well and makes it feel Real. i'll visualize stuff in my head like its a movie and write out what i would want to tell the set designer?? if the lights are low, if the space is busy, if it's supposed to exude comfort or not.

for putting forward the character's mood one thing i've found that makes a difference is sentence length!! long sentences are good for making a character seem flustered and nervous or not really in control of their emotions? good for love confessions. short sentences are good for when the character is focused on something or short on time. good for fights!!

What's something you never considered to include in your writing that you can't leave out now? def buff hagakure,,,, once i thought of it i was like. if i don't include this at least once in every single fic how could i look at myself in the mirror!!!!!! how could i face anyone!!!!

How do you start a story? establishing a fact about the character or describing the setting! option a is one single thread of gold, option b is between lion and men

How do you end a story? either by tying it back to the beginning or doing like a funny kind of closing??? option a is sugar cookies, option b is a godless society

How do you get out of writer's block? change something!! move something!! i go from typing to handwriting, moving from my bedroom to my living room, switching wips to work on something else!! i do sprints as well?? give myself like fifteen minutes to write something and sometimes 200 words opens up the way for another 2k. sometimes i'll just delete like 500 words and start fresh

Do you edit? or do you toss your writing out there? i edit!!! i'll go over it myself then send it to one or two betas (bee my beloved <33)

How do you edit? do you use spellcheck, grammar checkers, etc? bee is my grammar checker bc he is So Good with grammar. i use grammarly as well for spellcheck stuff mostly?? sometimes my edit process is just like "am i tired of looking at this!! yes <3" and then i post it

Can you tell us anything about your current WIP? sure!! i'm currently working on when it rains which is a fic where bakugou gets hit by a crying quirk!! i'm gonna be using it to explore So Much of all might's character and his relationships with bakugou and aizawa (and i think some people from his past!!)

Can you give us a sneak peek on your current WIP? “You did something. What the hell did you do?” Kirishima sounds pissed off. It would amuse Katsuki if he wasn’t fighting just to stay standing.

“Nothing he didn’t ask for,” Shinsou replies.

“K’ri… shima,” Katsuki croaks out. “‘S fine. Not him.”

His chest collapses back into the familiar dry heaving after that but Kirishima shuts up. He doesn’t apologize to Shinsou.

What's your favorite thing about writing? touched on this before but it's mainly just being able to write the things that i want to see and actually enjoy them!!! actually reread them!!!! i thought "wouldn't it be cool if bkg and kirishima owned a restaurant together" and then i wrote it and i like it enough to reread it!!!! being able to create content for myself makes me. so happy

How do you keep yourself inspired? this is gonna sound narcissistic maybe but honestly i'm just really excited about my ideas and where i'm gonna take them and the idea of "i'm gonna get to That scene" keeps me going through the entire thing. also my friends!!!! i'll talk to them about fics and their reactions keep me hyped up enough to finish!!!!

One way you've improved your writing since you began? characterization!! i think i've gotten better at writing characters that are all Different and bring different things to the table!!! i used to project a lot more and it would compromise the characterization because the character was like 70% me and 30% them? not to say that projection is bad but if you do it too much it just,, doesn't read like the character and from a reader's standpoint the narrative can become less compelling

One aspect of writing you're still working on? writing action!!! i. literally hate writing it but i write for a fandom about superheroes so. Unfortunately i gotta learn.

A piece of writing advice you've learned while writing saw this on another tumblr post but they said sometimes if you're struggling with a scene, the problem is five lines back. i've found that to be true!!!! sometimes u gotta delete a chunk and start a little ways back!! i did this with too busy being yours because i was stuck for Weeks and i deleted like 25% of what i had but it helped me actually finish it :D

Something you wish you knew when you first started writing? ,,,,honestly i kind of wish i could know some of the stuff that i used to when i first started writing?? technically i'm better now but creatively i was must better when i wasn't stressing about whether anyone would like what i was writing. so i guess i wish i knew that i should keep that confidence? i kinda wish that i wasn't as insecure about other people's writing styles because i never used to be!!

We generally have the plays split up along lines of “what we know”— we have a list at the very beginning of the blog. Sometimes we’ll draw the others’ characters (mostly me drawing some of Star’s…) but even then the final say on characterization is up to the “main” mod for that play — mod aster

I think my favorite play overall is Macbeth, just because I like the vibes (and the fact that I too could kill Macbeth), the fact that you don’t say it’s name in theatres, and the fact that it’s a play I did a full read through and analysis of in class. This is phrased like an ACT question and i might not answer it right so sorry in advance but: mod aster and i only selected a few plays for each of us to do given we dont know all of shakespeare’s works, but we tend to put more emphasis on the the more well known. But it also comes down to 1. How much we have plotted out for each play and 2. What the followers ask about most. Our two most popular are hamlet and macbeth bc people are familiar w those but around march caesar always becomes relevant again. I didnt even have designs for some of the characters until someone asked about them. -- mod star

I would say the same as star— it generally comes down to what people ask about. I will say that the overall plot is sort of separated into “has happened” and “is happening”. Like, the human potion of Midsummer, Julius Caesar, and Macbeth are all in the “aftermath” portion, while Twelfth Night, Hamlet, and Romeo and Juliet, among others, are happening. We’re trying to incorporate as much as we can, and I don’t think any of them were really put in without some thought.— mod aster

I go to a theater school rn and so ive dealt w shakespeare (although not all of them) it also helps that i was in loves labours lost last year as moth and that i read hamlet and r n j. Theres also a theater in my state that always does One Big Shakespeare per season and they always do them super well!!! To be honest, I got back into Shakespeare Because of the blog. I’ve been friends with some people that got really Pretentious about Shakespeare, and it kinda put me off of it. I did have a book of abridged plays (the plays’ plots written out in prose, basically) that I read as a kid, which is what got me into not only the plots of a lot of the plays, but also the idea of having them illustrated. And, same as star, the theater in state does the One Big Shakespeare— and they tend to do some really cool things with the costumes, setting them in diff time periods. It can depend on the piece? I was working on some (unrelated) oc prints that were song-focused, and for those I just listened to said song on loop. Sometimes I have playlists. Sometimes I’ll just be in a Mood and throw a song on loop. But a lot of time for the blog, I’ll listen to The Adventure Zone for the billionth time, because I have Too Much Attention. It’s mostly determined by like. How we choose per story? If that makes sense. Like, we just take story by story, and decide “is it happening, has it happened, and when?” And then we fit them together in relation to each other just by dint of. All existing at once. Like, I knew I wanted Macbeth to be in aftermath, because like, even though there’s no murder, the way I’ve translated it to the AU is still kinda heavy, and it’s something that I don’t know that I could do properly if it were happening right now. Also, it’s more interesting IMO to have them at different times. Tl;dr we wing it per story and slot them together— mod aster (mod star agrees I just can word better, in theory)

Pretty much what Star said— there are certain elements where it’d be neat to do as a comic or as an animatic. Like, the fantasy dream is like, an anthology webcomic of each story, where you can like, see other characters in the background and stuff. But to be honest, we develop a lot by what we’re asked— there was a post about developing worldbuilding by being asked questions and then pretending you’ve thought about the answer, and it’s not far off. Personally, it’s hard to just lay out a story, because I have a whole WORLD and what’s relevant? What are people interested in? Yada yada something something about how a LOT of people have double standards & really aren't willing to admit it and a big example I speak of in this case is how Ive seen various people on social media share the mentality of "so it's gay... bUT Is iT gOoD"?

Honestly... I ignore PLENTY of stuff that's deemed "bad" and "good." I'll watch something if it interests me, nothing more, and SOMETIMES it being queer makes me interested, but sometimes it also doesn't!

Reminds me of how so many of y'all also "care" so much about well done queer rep but put peoples lives in danger because "well this HAS to be written by a straight because it's so badly representing me/others" even though ur basing that off ur limited experience as x identity or what you've learned about y identity*. Do I think it's important to give roles to those who ARE part of those identities & to prioritize them because they are more marginalized & thus get less opportunities for stuff like this? Of course, but at the end of the day I'm not going to assume anything about someone I know nothing about (even if their lives are public, that IS still very diff from knowing someone personally). Doing so just seems more harmful then good and plays into the whole binary thinking of "my one experience is valid so you can't possibly be x" and thinking only in extreme binaries seems to often be not a great way of thinking!

Also... why not just... instead of complaining... just... move onto to something you know is made by queer people then??? Just ignore it, leave it alone because if it's not actively harmful why does it matter then? Maybe go look at stuff outside ur comfort zone of media u digest or something then, or independent stuff, or even that "stuff" u ignored because it has to be "good!"

(I also realize I'm probably making a mountain out of molehill but I'm just TIRED of the hypocrisy, oh that queer thing that set new standards for gay rep & opened doors for new/better media is bad & this should NEVER BE LIKED OR CONSUMED OR TALKED ABOUT EVER IN ANY SORT OF FAVORABLE WAY but also at the same time refusing to look into & check out independent media because it's not convenient*/up to ur standard's/expectations that are molded by ur consumption of only/mostly mainstream media BUT ALSO at the same time THIS QUEER THING IS GOOD NO IT HAS NO PROBLEMS even though it's at best Queer™/queer at a REALLY specific glance because it's made by mainstream media but gets points regardless... for some reason...)

I forgot to mentioned explicitly the bullying aspect but honestly, while yes, the bullying is the worst thing that comes out of that sort of thing the reasoning alone for the bullying, is ALSO bad, EVEN if the reasoning isn't accompanied by harassment/violence!

4. How many fic ideas are you nurturing right now? Care to share one of them?

im currently playing around with a couple different things. they’re all continuations (or prequels) to the series ive been working on for a while, so this shouldn’t be too big of a surprise!! :pin no particular order, theres offal hunt 1st epilogue, offal hunt edits (bc gotta run Major Edits on the finished product bc im Me lmao), no scope chapter 5, and a prequel for monster craigslist au in which amelie and angela do the nasty ft. d/s, restraints, and waxplay because angela is a fuckin freak and also was basically Born to be an unfairly amazing top thanks to her monster bg in this au :9(theres also one or two original ideas floating around, but im not working on those just yet)

17. Do you write your story from start to finish, or do you write the scenes out of order?

depends on the length of the story!!! usually if its a long fic, i try to write it in order because it feels impossible to go out of order? at least on a big scale like that. HOWEVER, if it’s a small story or even a part of a chapter in a long story, i might skip a scene im having trouble with to go to one i want to write in the hopes that with the Cool Bit written ill encourage myself to write the rest so i can post it. 

20. Describe your perfect writing conditions. 

i honestly dont know if theres External Stuff that can put me in the Zone, altho i suppose a quiet, empty space is the only way i can actually work. when i really get going tho, the main thing is that im super fucking excited for what im about to write? feeling very optimistic and confident about the scene. its really mostly a mental fight to get the good stuff on the page, but coffee and few distractions definitely do help :9

oh gosh ive had a few of these in recent months, but i recently got a really nice review on my widow/pharah fic and the person basically told me - across various messages back and forth - the things they liked about characterization, pacing, turn of phrase, and plot and like??? gosh i can’t even put into words how much that means? like dtn get me wrong i love short and sweet “loved this!” but theres nothing more exciting than someone who says what specifically they liked and what specifically they think i did well(on that same note, personal fav comments of mine usually pull a line or two from the fic and give me a specific reaction to those lines, which is always cool bc i usually meant for certain lines to have certain implications and its always cool to see how ppl took them!!!)
