possibly my favorite thing about Gus and Shawn's dynamic is at first you kind of feel bad for Gus, like wow this normal and mature adult is still saddled with his disaster, immature, maybe a little selfish best friend. but then you realize. wait a minute. Gus is just as much of a dumbass as Shawn. more often than not, he rolls with the alias nicknames without hesitation, sometimes better than Shawn, bullshits just as hard as Shawn, and has his fair share of wildly stupid moments

When I was in elementary school I went to circus camp and we would have balloon animal making as one of the activities/courses. Of course having a lot of children playing with balloons all day meant that they would quite often pop. It was quite loud when they would pop and usually everyone would stop what they were doing to look at what happened.

I cannot tell you why, but once during the first year I was attending the circus camp, after one of the balloons popped my undiagnosed unmedicated ADHD ass just yelled “HAPPY NEW YEAR!” in response. Of course everyone was confused because why would I yell? and why would that be what I said? But we moved on.

It must have stuck in someone’s head though because a few hours later when the next balloon animal dog or whatever popped someone else yelled happy new year to react to it. And from that point on it became A Thing. Everyone, every time a balloon popped, would in unison yell “HAPPY NEW YEAR”. This would happen at least once a day. I was quite proud of myself for inventing this bit.

The next year, when I went back to circus camp, I found that the habit had stuck. Everyone was still yelling happy new year. Then one day I was sitting eating lunch with a group of kids and one of them asked the group why we yelled that, and no one knew. And they didn’t believe me when I told them I had come up with it. None of them had been there the year before. The counselors also didn’t remember it was me who started it. Me and my younger sibling were the only ones who knew and remembered.

Ultimately though, I didn’t care if people remembered me as the one who started the trend. It was fun, it was silly, it was communal. And more importantly it was something that I created that had gained a life of its own beyond me. Because isn’t that what humanity is for? Celebrating a silly mistake like someone popping a balloon. Coming together to yell a non-sequitur. Leaving a positive mark on a place. It’s not much but it’s honest work, to me.

Demand of Honor (1984) starts to drift a bit. The problem with the FASA Star Trek RPG, one that they never solved and which eventually was the undoing of the line, was that the game's roots in wargaming meant that the RPG naturally kind of wants to be a wargame. That’s sort of the exact opposite of the core Star Trek belief system, and you can read something like Demand of Honor and actually feel the designers trying to resist the pull of that sort of design. But they generally fail — a lot of the Trek RPG material feels like Traveller’s military science fiction with a coat of Star Trek paint on top.

The thrust of this adventure is a diplomatic mission meant to prevent war between the Federation and the Gorn. This is complicated by unfolding events — a rogue band of Gorn pirates are raiding shipping lanes — and social beliefs — the strong but bizarre-by-human-standards concept of Gorn honor. Most of the scenario is pretty good, though even the ideal path through the plots and counter plots is going to lead to ship-to-ship combat. The problem is that the module gives players far more room to fail than to succeed, the result of which will be a lengthy war between the Gorn and the Federation. Hey, at least you tried at peace! But now those tactical ship combat rules in the revised box set can get some use!

I know it has been a while, but if you only knew what I have to go through regularly, you would understand why it takes me so long to do anything. I will go into that on another day. It is special because today, the world gets the first look at Book II: The Saga of Thranduil--Extended Version.

It would be appreciated if you would leave a comment on this thread about whether you liked it or not because I sent it out for beta readers for a reason.

I have been in talks with a lot of publishers on demand who want to publish this book. One of them overzealously wanted to turn the book into a Netflix series. (do not ask). I would rather film the story in order, which begins with @tkwrtrilogy3. At over 1200 pages (currently), the entire trilogy is long enough to have a television show (but I would want it to include @oflordsandkingstkwrtbook and @tkwrtsongofsevenrivers). I am aware of that. To be honest, I would like to be the one to write the script as I also know how to do that (from experience). But, because my stepsister (Roseann Grotjan) stuck me into a Britney Spears situation, I do not have access to my money or any way to negotiate the publication of any of my books (and I have several) on my own, so this is going take a while. I have millions of adoring fans willing to scare the BeJesus out of her in order to get their favorite book in print and onscreen.

But. someone leaked to me what a perspective book cover of The Saga of Thranduil would look like. I will post one of the mock-ups because seriously, who is going to notice? It is a mock-up, so it is not a final design. Also, I didn't choose it. It was chosen for me to persuade me to choose this particular company. There are at least seven or eight of these people trying to persuade me to publish this book. One of them has actually read the book, and it made them cry.

They want to sell it in hardcover and paperback. Wouldn't that be nice? My bestie (@fortunatelyclevercandy) wants me to wait. I will not tell you why because I know why, and I'm about to do what she asked me to do. I want literally no FREE PR around it.

Oh, that is a lot I know. But if it were not for my stepsister, the state of Missouri, and the crappy hellhole they put me in the middle of nowhere with shitty internet (on purpose), I would be farther along, and everybody probably would have several copies of this book series by now. The moral of my story is: do not trust your family after your father dies and leaves you some money. They might just get the idea in their head to take it from you to make $20/hour as your guardian by claiming that you're crazy when you just asked them about your own trust fund. But I digress.

Enjoy The Saga of Thranduil--Extended Version. You will be the ones who will decide which version of this story gets published. You will be the ones that will make it possible to see the Elvenking's life story in a book store, online, or even on Netflix.

You lead yourself through logic. The things other people do in the name of "emotion" and "passion" that only end up hurting them in the end are hard for you to understand.
