If you had to assign a theme song to each of your characters, what songs would they be and why? We think about this a lot with our OCs, and we believe personally that Ace's theme might be Crazy = Genius by P!ATD. But that might just be bcuz we fangoy over that band!

On a side note, we'd like to know what bands you enjoy listening to? And which genres?

hihi! oc questions make me very happy and are always welcome <3 just for fair warning, I’m a little bad at assigning songs to characters but. I’ll try! I don’t really have a definitive single theme song(tm) for some characters so these are tentatively unofficial haha, but just for fun!

sol- mulled over different ones but the one that kept sticking out is ‘Hope for the Future’ by Bastille. very in line with their character themes and the kind of person they are.

lyra- this one was the hardest surprisingly. but ‘Passing Through’ by Kaden MacKay feels right. both the calm vibe of the song feels fitting as well as themes of making the most of their time and being with the people they love. kinda taking time to slow down in the moment of life being fast.

niko- think I’ve mentioned this one before, but I like ‘Get Used To It’ by Ricky Montgomery a lot for him. a lot of her backstory’s about trying to make things better than they were, both for themself and for others. so this one feels right.

june- the only one that wasn’t hard at all. ‘The Villain I Appear To Be’ by Connor Spiotto/Molly Pease. the most junecore song to ever song

hazel- ‘Synesthesia’ by Andrew McMahon in the Wilderness for them. song gives me autumnal vibes for a reason I can’t describe, and the calm feel and the lyrics fit them and how much they love their partner Robyn and would do anything for them. <3

regan- haven’t shown them off here yet (soon), but to those who do know them :> ‘The Ruse & The Caper’ by Coyote Theory. they’re very close with their partner Ozu- they have a really strong connection with each other, and love each other for who they are. this song is very rezu to me

as for ace- it is hard for me to assign One song to them bc they are such a complex chara along with the fact that I struggle at assigning songs anyways so I’ll try for a few (mostly based on lyrics). I would do multiple for all my charas if it didn’t mean that this post would be years long, so if you want more than one for my other charas feel free to msg me or ask :>

- ‘Kaibutsu’ (eng version) from Beastars! (linking this one bc there’s a few diff versions! I did a redraw of this album art with them actually :>)

- ‘Warmth’ by Bastille. this song is very ‘finding comfort in the people you love when the world around you is so overwhelming’ and that strikes me as the kind of person that ace would want to be for others.

- ‘Humpty Dumpty’ by AJR. fits with their struggling with hiding their problems from others because they don’t really have a good support system, and don’t want to burden or worry that others already have enough going on. they do end up confiding in the player- I think the player’s one of the people who they trust and care about the most.

- if I had to pick a P!ATD song for ace, I’d probably pick ‘Dying in LA’ myself. it feels very ‘ace while they’re in team meteor’ to me, where their desperation and loneliness gets taken advantage of and they’re recruited into this Unhealthy Bad situation that they clearly don’t agree with- but hey, it’s better than being alone like they were before, right?

as for me, my favorite band is bastille! as you might’ve been able to tell already, haha. although I’m also fond of AJR, fitz & the tantrums, coyote theory, ricky montgomery, imagine dragons, and p!atd :> in no order! as for genre, it’s hard to describe what single genre(s) I love since it tends to depend but I like stuff that Feels right to me. a lot of once off songs from someone I’ve never heard of just catch my attention immediately- sometimes that’s something meaningful and chill, other times higher energy, fun to sing along to. that kinda stuff!

y'all probably expect me to say he's wearing either a leather jacket or a hoodie. well, i say he's wearing a black dress shirt with sleeves rolled up, the first button unbuttoned, and dark-colored slacks. choker and necklace adorning his pretty neck, piercings adorning his ears, golden eyes regularly flitting down his analog watch with each moment spent without you on his sight. i will die on this hill and none of you can change my mind.

he leads you to his motorcycle and hands you your helm with a silent question in his eyes. it's the same question every time and you already know what your answer is - because every single time you would choose to spend the rest of your day with him rather than having him deliver you home.

"you're late today. did something happen?"

another one who waits silently at the gate. big chance that he's sketching something when you spot him. but if klee is tagging along, then he's probably busy trying to make sure she doesn't wander too far.

soft knitted sweater or simple collared shirt with a warm, neutral-colored tone. the perfect embodiment of casual-soft-light-academia style. smiles softly when you tap his shoulder to gain his attention or when klee spots you and runs into your arms.

leads you to his car parked just on the parking lot nearby (klee has shotgun if she is there though). if you're alone, he holds the steering wheel with one hand and your hand in the other as he makes some small talk.

"how was your day, starlight? mine was... eventful. would you like to hear all about it?"

pulls up with his fancy-ass bmw right in front of you. probably dressed formally since he came by after a client meeting. a total head turner. if you have friends or coworkers waiting with you they would probably gawk in awe.

smiles as soon as his eyes meet yours and kisses your cheek as a greeting. you're swooning. your friends are swooning. the elderly couples across the street are swooning. hell, even the birds are probably swooning (cue 'close to you' playing in the background).

greets your friends with a polite smile. opens and closes the car door for you. whoever says chivalry is dead clearly hasn't met this man before.

launches into his full storyteller mode as he drives. has no need for a gps. will not hold your hand while he drives because safety first, but will kiss your fingers gently if you try to reach out for his hand.

you caught him wearing glasses one time and hoo whew no wonder he stars in the commercials of his company himself. his marketing people know what they're doing, alright.

"hm? glasses? oh. apologies, i seem to have forgotten to take it off. i just came from a meeting with a client, and had to read through a rather extensive contract document- .... i should wear it often, you say? hmm. i suppose if it makes you blush so endearingly, then i should."

some days he has his bicycle with him, but more often than not, he walks to your workplace/campus. you probably have an outdoor spot where you always promise to meet at, either at a nearby park or some cute coffee shop.

he always spots you before you do, smiling quietly as he watches you look around for him. if he's feeling mischievous you might get a text saying cute things like "wrong direction, dove." or "i spy with my humble eye, a sparrow looking for its sky &lt;;3"

when you do spot him in his oversized sweater, silver strands pulled back in a low side ponytail with the hair tie you lost a week ago, it feels like you're finally home. "i've been looking for that for the whole week!!" "what do you mean, love? it's mine?? c:"

"there you are, maple. the day has been painfully slow for me today. i missed you."

sneaks up behind you every. single. time. and he's always so playful about it too: he'll cover your eyes, poke your sides, blow into your ears, anything to make you jump and scold him with that cute angry pout. always apologizes half-heartedly afterward and gives you a little something on the side - your favorite snack or drink, an odd thing he picked up along the way, or random small trinkets you don't know what to use for ("'zou, the hell am i going to use a smoking pipe for??" "you pose with it and look cool, duh!")

this boy is a fashion icon, with his dyed hair and #ootd. he's always keeping up with trends, unafraid of trying out a new style, and would even take requests from you. though his favorite is always when you ask him to match your outfits together!

he'll gladly walk with you to the nearest park, mall, cafe, or even either one of your houses, all the while recounting the latest development in the cases he's working on, your hands linked tightly around each other and swinging to the rhythm of your synchronized steps.

"guess who~ mm, ding ding ding! as expected of my partner! you're right on time, too! let me guess, some extra work came in and you had to run a few errands, hence you ran late today.... was i spot on? heh, what can i say, my deductive logic is unparalleled!"

Terrible Fic Idea #58: Percy Jackson x Criminal Minds

While perusing the PJO tag for the first time in ages, I stumbled across yet another crossover I never would have thought of trying - and which, naturally, hasn't escaped my head. It managed to mash together the worlds of PJO and Criminal Minds... and so, naturally, I thought: if I were going to write this crossover, what would I do?

Just imagine it:

Everything follows canon - until MoA. There Percy plays off the judo throw in New Rome to avoid starting a war with the Greeks, but after they're alone on the Argo Percy tells Annabeth that he doesn't appreciate 1) being blamed for his disappearance, as if Hera had asked him if he wanted to lose his memories and half a year of his life, and 2) being physically attacked by his girlfriend outside of weapons practice.

Naturally, Annabeth doesn't take this well and doubles down on her position, and the two fight like cats and dogs throughout MoA and HoO. By the time they reach Akhlys, Percy is hardly inclined to listen to Annabeth at all, and so doesn't stop poison-bending.

It's not obvious at the time, but not stopping fully unlocks Percy's divine powers. He's now immortal, like Chiron, but not a god. It's also rather the final straw for Annabeth and Percy's relationship.

Because he doesn't immediately realize he's immortal, Percy goes on with normal human things like high school and college - attending both at Camp Jupiter, which is better equipped to handle demigods than the average mortal school. It's only after he starts grad school at nearby Stanford University and gets a lot of comments on how young he looks does anyone start realizing what's happened.

Fast forward to about 15 years after HOO, when Percy has joined the BAU - because even immortals have to pay the bills somehow.

In my head I picture this to be S8/S9 of CM, largely because I enjoyed Alex Blake's character and think she'd be a good outsider POV for the story I want to tell, but dealer's choice.

Percy proves to be the BAU cryptid. His primary and secondary school records say unsub in the making... then he double majors in marine biology and classics in college (because everyone who survives four years in the legion or slays a particular number of monsters gets a classics degree when they graduate by default). Then he goes on to get a doctorate in psychology from Stanford... and swim twice for Team USA in the Olympics. He once went on vacation in the Keys and found the wreck of a lost Spanish galleon free diving. He's polite and mild mannered and goes nowhere without at least three knives on his person and a week's worth of survival gear. When he's tired, his reports sometimes slip into Ancient Greek or Latin. He may be a Hellenist and speaks of Hell as a place that he's been.

Percy is, in short, unfathomable to his profiler colleagues. They like him, but every new thing they learn about him only complicates the profile they're definitely not putting together.

He's been in the BAU for about 18 months before they receive reports of a serial killer's dumping ground in the Oakland Hills, not more than a mile from Camp Jupiter. The victims are all in their late teens and signs indicate all were killed in a ritualistic way. Most of those the investigators can identify are runaways.

Once the BAU is on site, Reid determines that someone is trying to recreate an obscure Ancient Roman sacrifice.

More importantly, Percy realizes that, yes, these are definitely the bodies of Roman demigods - and not one of them was killed by a monster before they could get to camp. In fact, he's pretty sure there's a secret entrance to camp not 100' away from the oldest body.

It's this last point that causes Percy to lead his team to Camp Jupiter. This is a revelation in itself and should answer many of the team's questions about Percy but give them twice as many new ones.

It should also be perfect timing, as they arrive just as praetors Frank and Hazel were thinking of reaching out to Percy, as he's the only real investigator either camp has. They're not aware of most of the murders, as it's not unusual for one or two demigods every year to be killed after leaving the safety of camp, but the last three victims went missing in the last three months under odd circumstances.

(One was a granddaughter of Apollo who'd talked about wanting to join the Hunters of Artemis, and when she disappeared everyone assumed that's what she did, only for the Hunters to visit later claiming she never showed. The most recent was a daughter of Bacchus who hated the regimented life of the legion and wanted to transfer to Camp Half-Blood where things were a little more their speed. Most the others were legacies or the children of minor gods.)

They set up shop in Percy's house - in part because CJ has no police force beyond the legion, which houses their main suspects - in part because Percy's house is built like a Roman temple on the edge of the temple district and no one would dare sneak into it.

(The demigods have been actively treating immortal Percy as a god, because if deification worked for Nero, they can make it work for Percy. And a deified!Percy could only be good for them.)

In the end it comes out a grandchild of Hecate/Trivia was sacrificing other demigods to their ancestor in hopes of obtaining more power - they should be just powerful enough to disguise their actions with the Mist but not much more, and intensely jealous their ancestor handed already-powerful Hazel more power during the Giant War.

Bonuses include: 1) Thalia and the Hunters showing up to help, as do Nico and Will. This should be an intensely confusing family reunion to watch from the outside given that two are immortal. Extra bonus points if the BAU recognize Nico from some wildly successful paranormal investigative channel on YouTube and are shocked to find out all the ghosts are real; 2) Will calling Percy "mom", on account of the fact he's been dating Apollo for the last five years now - Apollo's longest relationship ever - though Percy refuses to consider marriage or children until fifty years have passed; and 3) One of the BAU being tangentially involved with the mythological world already - Hotch had a relationship with a disguised Justice before meeting Hailey and their child is at Camp Jupiter? Reid has just recently met a disguised Athena at a conference and is now worried he'll arrive home to a baby on the doorstep?

I write exclusively happy endings, because I have a pathlogical need for a happy ending, and every fic I've written happened because I wanted it to exist so I could read it. That said, maybe From This Day To The Ending of The World? Because...it's still a little complicated? (Not really though, it's still A Happy Ending TM)

What’s the fic you’ve written with the happiest ending?

Uh. They're all really happy. But I think Fundamentally People was the sweetest.

Ohhhhh yes. Looking at my fandoms, it's often the "oh no, what's happening I seem to be very attracted to you, what can that possibly mean? NOTHING AT ALL CLEARLY except we should do that more but never ever talk about and certainly not talk about FEELINGS." Sometimes it's that. Sometimes it's "ohholygodwecanbonebecauseyoulovemetoowhew." One time it was "We are in love and married but Victorian Repression so we don't quuiiiiiite know how to do sex?"

I'm pretty good about finishing, actually. I have some ideas kicking around that I might never get to, but I don't have anything I've genuinely started that I've left undone.

What are your writing strengths?

I think I'm very good at dialogue, and decent at pacing (current fic-in-progress notwithstanding grrr). I think I capture voice pretty well.

What are your writing weaknesses?

I'm not always great at setting a scene. I tend to rush through, and I feel like I'm capable of quite lovely writing, but I'm impatient and skip over it. I'm not always great about plotting - I long to write something heavily plotted and gripping, and then I'm like...crickets.

What are your thoughts on writing dialogue in other languages in a fic?

Whelp, as somebody with one (1) language skill, I'm not great at it. On occasion, I've needed to use another language--Russian and German have come up recently, I've called upon Good Old Google Translate which is obviously not ideal, but I checked in with a couple of friends when I wasn't sure it was correct. One time I intentionally used Bad French (it was for Aziraphale, who is supposed to be bad at French, and a French-speaking reader was very upset. I explained why I did it, and it was fine, but it was pretty funny).

What was the first fandom you wrote for?

My very first fanfic was for Twelfth Night because I am a Giant Nerd.

What’s a fandom/ship you haven’t written for yet but want to?

I'm in the midst of a Gen Kill fic, so that's on its way. I want to write IronStrange! And Webgott!

What’s your favourite fic you’ve written?

I'm very proud of From This Day To The Ending of The World. It was a new form of storytelling that I'd always wanted to try, and I'm really happy with how it turned out. I'm also really pleased with The Most Dangerous Thing is to Love because it did exactly what I wanted it to do (i.e., it was the fic I wanted to read).

I used to draw for other small/rare ships (apparently I'm drawn to those kind of ships lol), only one of them got huge enough after they were given some time alone in the manga which got the ship more talented and known creators and amazing fan art.

Unfortunately it also got more hate on since it was a ship that "got in the way" of other huge popular ships and going through the tag got annoying bc the haters tagged every post shitting on the previously rare pairing, plus if you reblogged or made content for it they would harass you. I just blocked everyone sending me hate lmao.

Lots of people now hate Leon/Ashley but I think this increased hatred also shows how the haters can see that it is a thing now unlike before. They see it as a real threat. You can see the insecurity in some of those antis, it's too obvious and also just sad imo. I don't get why antis take shipping too seriously like they're not even having fun anymore and that's supposed to be the point, no?

Truth is I've seen so many Leon/Ashley fans online and even irl, Reddit for example loves it and Remake Ashley is a fan favorite now. A lot of them are more casual fans that maybe don't engage that deeply with fanon (which tbh is the smart thing to do).

Finally I have to say your blog and the amazing fic writers have inspired me to go back to drawing fan art and just creating content for Ashley/Leon or EagleOne. :)

Since this is my new otp and the only thing I love shipping rn I'm also just creating a new blog for that purpose. I'm not an amazing artist I'm just an amateur but I'll try to do something soon when I'm less busy. I'll absolutely tag it as EagleOne. Hopefully I can motivate others to do the same.

i know that the antis are coming from a place of insecurity, which is why their arguments are so disingenuous (i finally found the "the devs went out of their way to make sure that leon and ashley weren't seen as romantic" tweet and hoo boy the desperation is stinky) -- and that's also why i don't engage with them. as easy and perhaps fun as it would be to just QRT it and be like "oh it makes sense now, you're all using text to speech because you don't actually know how to read" there's no point in doing that.

i said it a while ago, but i want to say it again for good measure -- i don't want us to become them. my humble goal for eagleone fandom is to be a haven for ppl. we've been the black sheep of this fandom for so long, and aeons are still accusing us of being predators or someshit (idk i'm only semi-fluent in delusional) that i feel like we all have an obligation to stay humble now that capcom's given us a fairy tale version of RE4 where our ship is the front-and-center romance and people are finally actually being drawn to the ship. no one knows how bad this fandom can get better than eagleone folk, so it's on us to not do unto others what has been done unto us.

Also, about your Kasumi's post, i don't deny that Atlus tropped the ball about Sumire's arc at some point but I think Kasumi was a good sister, but also flawed. She probably had more pressure on her shoulders for being the 'oldest one' due japanese's standards, despite being just some minutes older than Sumi, so she probably also wore a mask of perfection to trick society she was what they wanted. Plus instead of just being insensitive, i read her last moment more as her being one of those people coping with humor 'my sister is sad im gonna say a joke to cheer her up :)' and it went BAD. And when Sumi belives to be her sister, she is not a 1:1 copy of the real Kasumi, she is Sumire's own cognition of Kasumi.

Tldr: i think both twins loved eachother deeply but there was a huge lack of comunication a bit due the fact they were 14 at the time and a bit due japanese norms. Also sorry for the ramble 😅

okok onto the sumi thing--gonna put that under the cut bc of royal spoilers

i think a lot of projection went into my post talking about the sumis tbh bc i have a LOT of issues regarding jealousy and self worth and hoo boy do i project all that onto sumi. so i end up going "grrr everyone better than me is actually awful grrr" as like this weird but natural reaction.

i do think kasumi really did love her sister!! she was just caught up in both fame, praise, and possibly expectations like you suggested. and abt her treating sumire in an insensitive way, while i'm sure she didn't intend anything malicious behind any of her actions, i'd still read what she said as fairly insensitive, albeit unintentionally. she knows sumire's got issues with self worth comparing herself to her but doesn't really try to listen and understand--sumire even points that out.

and while i also think sumire did love her sister, i still stand by my opinion that she should've bore some kind of anger or grudge toward her out of jealousy. and naturally, because she thinks kasumi's so perfect (and out of love), she'd internalize that grudge onto herself just to further her own self loathing. but even with that, i think it's okay if she did harbor that grudge--it only makes sense for you to be mad at someone you constantly compare yourself to, even if you love them with all your heart. it's really something else for her to work through and feel emotions about, bc i really don't think ATLUS let her be emotional enough in third sem.

tl;dr, i'm sure both sisters did love each other very much, one's just unaware of how to handle someone with a crumbling mental health and the other has jealousy issues she internalizes as self-loathing

The apartment building was in a more rural part of Metropolis, something Clark was looking forward to as his last place had far too nosy neighbors who tried to make everyone else's business theirs. This place was quieter, the streets less busy with traffic, and the sidewalks cleaner and better maintained. Trees grew in places, adding a touch of nature to city life. The building itself was old, made of brick and his new apartment was on the second floor. It was a one-bedroom, one-bath kind of place, not that he needed or wanted anything bigger. Pulling the rented moving truck up out front, he looked at the double doors leading inside and he was glad he didn't have that much furniture. He could carry even the heaviest pieces with no effort, but they were still awkward to try to maneuver.

Getting out of the truck, he went around to the back and flung up the door, looking at his furniture with his hands on his hips. Well, it wasn't going to move itself. He slid the ramp out from its slot and walked up it, deciding on his couch first as it was the last thing to go in. Getting it down the ramp was easy, gravity did all the work there, but he looked at the stairs of the stoop and the double doors, trying to figure out the logistics of it. Heavy? Not for him. Awkward? Absolutely. Someone walked past him and up the steps as he was still figuring out the physics, but they stopped and he looked at them.

"Need help?" She asked, tucking a lock of deep red hair behind her ear.

"If you wouldn't mind." Clark said sheepishly, figuring she would just summon her boyfriend or someone to give him a hand. Instead, she pushed the sleeves of her hoodie up her forearms and went to one end of the couch, crouching down to lift with her legs.

"On three?" She asked and he got over his surprise quickly, going to the other end and grabbing it. "One. Two. Three." The grunt he gave when he lifted it was entirely for appearances and he noticed that she didn't strain herself at all. Maybe she worked out and a couch was nothing weight-wise. "Where are we taking it?"

"Forty-two A." He said and she cracked a smile that reached her warm, honey-colored eyes.

"Nice, I'm 42B, you must be my new neighbor."

"Clark."

"Samantha, but call me Sam." She said, "Okay, Clark, you are taller than I am, so I'm going to go first. Ready?"

"Ready." He said with a nod and they took the stoop one step at a time as she was walking up it backward. She pushed the doors open with her butt and they carried it inside, heading for the stairs.

"Hoo boy, this is going to be interesting." Sam said, "Ready?"

"When you are." Clark said and she nodded, starting to back up the stairs that luckily had no bends in them. He kept an ear on her heart rate to make sure she didn't over-exert herself, but it didn't change, staying completely steady as they carried the heavy couch up the stairs. She gave a huff when they got outside of his apartment, but she wasn't breathing heavily either. Digging his new keys out of his pocket, he unlocked the door and they carried the couch inside, setting it where he wanted it.

"Any other heavy, awkward furniture?" She asked, her tone teasing, "A modern art piece that's literally just a wheelbarrow full of cinder blocks maybe?"

"No, that's the biggest offender." Clark said with a smile. "I should be able to take it from here, thanks for your help."

"No problem." She said, "I am right next door if you need anything, just go ahead and give me a knock." They left the apartment together and there was a moment of awkwardness as they tried to go out the door at the same time, but he stepped back, gesturing for her to go first and she gave him a smile as she went past him. As she did, he caught the scent of trees and forest along with a musky smell that was…strange, but not unpleasant.

The rest of the move went smoothly and faster than normal as he was able to carry several heavy boxes at once and the rest of the furniture wasn’t nearly as awkward as the couch. It was still nighttime by the time he was finished and the rental had been returned and he relaxed in his new place, leaning back on the couch with a sigh. There was a knock at his door and he looked at it curiously before heaving himself up and going to it, opening it and seeing Sam outside, a large bowl in her hands.

“I figured you would be hungry but would be too tired to cook.” She said, holding it out to him and he took it from her. It was still warm and he peeled back the plastic wrap covering the top. “Beef burgundy with mashed potatoes. I always make too much, a side effect of growing up with a big family.”

“This smells amazing.” He said and it did, the smell of beef and wine mixed with potatoes wafting up from the bowl.

“The potatoes are homemade too, none of that powdered crap.” She said.

“Thank you so much, Sam, I can’t wait to dig into this.” Clark said and she gave him a somewhat embarrassed smile.

“I hope you like it, feel free to return the bowl whenever. It’s not like you don’t know where I live.” She said, “Have a nice night.”

“You too.” He said and watched her go, leaning out of the doorway slightly as she went back into her apartment, the door closing. Turning back into his, he closed and locked the door, raising the bowl to his nose and inhaling deep again, his mouth watering at the rich smell.

It tasted just as good as it smelled, the beef fork tender and the mushrooms cooked to perfection, the potatoes creamy but not too buttery to overpower the rest of it. His phone rang as he was eating and he picked it up, answering it after looking at the screen.

“Hey, mom.” He said.

“Hey, honey, how was the move?” His mom asked.

“Uneventful, thankfully.” Clark said, “I did meet one of my new neighbors though.”

“Man or woman?”

“Woman, her name is Sam, Samantha, she helped me get the couch into the new place. Also brought me dinner.” Clark said and his mom hummed briefly. “Mom. Don’t.”

“Is she a good cook?”

“Very.”

“Marry her immediately.” His mom said and he snorted, “Give me grandchildren.”

“Oh my god, mom.” Clark said, putting his head in his hand.

“I’m not getting any younger and I want grandbabies.”

“I just met the woman!” He said with a laugh, “Besides, I don’t even know if I can have kids with…normal people.”

“What do you know about her?” Martha asked.

“Besides that she’s a great cook and can deadlift a couch?” Clark asked, “She has a big family. That’s it.”

“Is she pretty?” His mom asked and he thought about it for a moment, recalling how her hair wasn’t a true red, but a deep copper color with gold highlights, how her eyes were an almost liquid honey color, warm and calming, and she had a smattering of adorable freckles over the bridge of her nose.

“Yeah, she’s pretty.” Clark admitted with a small smile.

“Okay, get to know her then marry her and give me grandchildren.” Martha said and he snorted.

“My dinner is getting cold, I’ll talk to you later mom.”

“Talk to you later, sweetheart.”

“Love you.”

“Love you too. Give me grandbabies!” He laughed at that and hung up, shaking his head.

What has been the BL that took you by surprise this year?

Big Dragon, I like it way more than I thought I would from the trailer and the first episode. It wasn't really on my radar. God damn are they making my emotions swing from 'this guys is an idiot I can't stand him' to 'I just want to pet him, pathetic meow, meow'. Except for Park and Pong I adore them all the time.

Also Secret Crush on You. Another that wasn't on my radar. The first episode rubbed me up the wrong way and I thought I'd hate the stalker storyline but by god does Billy and Seng have some great chemistry and give it depth to pull it off. Plus the storyline evolved and covered so many topics/themes. First times, body confidence, bullying, gender identity, questioning stereotypical roles in a relationship.

What has been the BL that you felt a bit disappointed with this year?

I normally am a pretty good judge of if I will like it from the trailer so I don't get massively disappointed when watching. Strangely enough, it's not that a feel disappointed with War of Y but I'm not in love with it like I thought I would be. It's good and the chemistry between the actors is great and yet I'm not 100% connecting with it. Fingers crossed for the 4th and last story as it was the one I was waiting for.

Even Sun. Now I adore BounPrem with all my heart but this series had so many things wrong with it. And it was frustrating because I could see glimpses of the good there, Prem was funny as Sun and some of the Bounprem moments were great. But there were too many characters, they should have focused on the one couple, and the translations were so bad that the storyline didn't always make sense (I saw a better translation at a later date and the storyline was so much better!) But overall the writing was abysmal.

What has been your favourite BL this year?

How do I choose one? Seriously? It can't be done. In no particular order. Kinnporsche, Love in the Air, Semantic Error. I reserve the right to add Between Us at a later date! I can and will rewatch all of these numerous times.

But if they were newbies I'd suggest maybe starting with the Korean BL's like Semantic Error, Roommates of Poongduck 304 and Choco Milk Shake. They are just kinda fluffy with good storylines and are often comedic.

What's your non-BL favourite for this year?

I have two and I would recommend them to everyone!

Thailand's 'Mama Gogo' made me laugh all the way through plus I loved the Older woman/Younger man relationship between Annie and Chen.

Korea's 'Love and Leashes' which again I'm pretty sure Jung Ji Hoo is supposed to be a younger man to Jung Ji Woo's slightly older woman. Their portrayal of a woman discovering her inner Dom was wonderful. Also seeing a submissive man be confident, for the most part, in his submissiveness was refreshing.

When I was rambling about my blorbos the other day, I described something as "kinky from a meta perspective" and I think that's an important concept to understand

Like, let's say a character is being restrained and actively trying to escape. In-universe, there's nothing kinky about that because no one is engaging in BDSM pretend-play here. It's real. It's not consensual. But you know who is in fact engaging in pretend-play?

We, the audience. And, regardless of whether they were thinking of it as kinky or not at the time, everyone who contributed to the creation of the story such as writers, directors, actors etc.

Unlike actual BDSM roleplay, we're all doing this separately. Each person involved in the creative process, as well as each viewer/reader, may have completely different interpretations and intentions, some of them perfectly innocent. We're not all doing an actual scene together, gods forbid.

But nevertheless, it's still pretend. It's still play. You can absolutely describe a character's experiences as kinky even though they do not engage in literal kink in-universe.

And when you're reading something where you know the author wrote it that way on purpose, as is often the case with fanfic, it is a little bit as if you consented to letting them help you RP in your head the moment you saw the tags and summary and decided to start reading.

The characters aren't people. They're neither consenting nor not consenting because they're not doing anything. They're being described for your benefit, in this act of pretend-play between you and the author. Which is why it does not matter if consent is sometimes not made explicit between the characters, and why you're not a bad person if you enjoy a story where kinky shit happens despite a glaring lack of pre-scene negotiation.

Now, can such things be jarring to encounter unexpectedly? Sure. It feels especially bad when you get the sense that the author had no idea they were describing an unhealthy dynamic. Yuck. And of course, explicit consent can greatly improve a story! More people should write about healthy, realistic kink imho.

But if you can understand that some people enjoy roleplaying things like being restrained against their will, then perhaps you can also understand that reading about characters being restrained against their will is essentially the same process?

I didn't get it until a few years ago tbh. This roleplaying analogy suddenly came to me one day and finally I understood how people could enjoy things that always broke my immersion. By now I even enjoy a number of these things myself. 🤷🏻‍♂️

And when it comes to visual media, hoo boy. That's on a whole other level. The kinky atmosphere of the scene can affect you before you've had time to get a single thought in. Maybe, on rewatch, you'll even be convinced that the director and at least one of the actors knew exactly what they were doing. It's fine to have fun with stuff like that!

I feel like this can be a difficult concept to wrap one's mind around, even if you don't have my unfortunate tendency to take things too literally combined with lack of education about media analysis. I got there eventually, but I regret the judgemental thoughts I used to have before I understood.

I was tagged by @luftnarp-writes-things for a tag game of "talk about the first 5-10 songs that come up on shuffle in your playlist" (paraphrased because i'm lazy), but I am going to take the opportunity to say that I........... am a guy who doesn't really "listen to music," in that I do not really do it as an activity or as background and I don't have a big overarching playlist on spotify or anything.

What I actually do is play lo-fi beats to write and relax to, play comedy music videos on youtube sometimes (i like Ninja Sex Party, the Stupendium and Danny Gonzalez), and listen to thrifted CDs (or recent ones my partner bought) in the car. Every once in a blue moon I will play a song or artist purposefully on spotify, usually because I head a word or phrase that made a song start playing in my head, and i need to listen to it to cleanse my brain. So like. Overall, I listen to music like. Maybe 1-3 hours a week a week. I KNOW THIS IS FREAK BEHAVIOR. Or like. It's not because everyone's subjective tastes are fine but I'm defensive because I've gotten side eyes about it. I'm sure someone is side-eyeing this post right now! I just kind of find music with lyrics to be understimulating on its own but overstimulating when paired with any other task besides driving (or washing dishes, but I only spend about 5 minutes on that a day now that I am not a professional dishwasher so it's not worth opening a new app.)

For lo-fi beats, I like Jazz Hop Cafe, because it has curated themed albums that last about 45-60 minutes and rarely have long voice samples in the tracks. I remember really liking the Midnight Drive album, but it's 2 years old now and I usually don't scroll down far enough to find it when I need background noise.

The last time I went to goodwill, I got 3 CDs, so I'll talk about them for a second as well.

Best of Simon and Garfunkel - Since I'm almost always in the car with Corv, it's very important to find something we both want to listen to. I don't really want to listen to their Fall Out Boy CD and they don't want to listen to the multiple Tori Amos CDs I've scrounged up. Fortunately we both fucking LOOOOOOVE a solid handful of Simon and Garfunkel songs, so they've been in charge of skipping the boring ones so we can listen to The Boxer 3 times in the same car trip.

The Best of Glenn Campbell - Yeah, I only got this one for Witicta Lineman, which I fucking looooooooove. I don't always listen to music, but when I do, I am a dad.

The Darkness - Permission to Land - As a general glam rock liker and 13 year old radio listener/VH1 watcher in 2003, "I Believe In A Thing Called Love" really hits me in the nostalgia and I'd like to actually listen to the album and get my take on it at some point, because it is kind of funny that there was one single throwback glam-rock song muscling its way to the front of the line before 80s stuff hit its over-extended 30 year nostalgia cycle that is only now getting outsted for Y2K nostalgia (which. hoo boy. IS confronting). And even if it's fully one-hit-wonder territory with an accompanying album of slush, it was still worth a dollar to have an artifact and a ripped mp3.

Anyway, @corvidcall you should talk about songs too.

You cannot tell me if Amity and Luz ever got married, Amity wouldn’t change her name to Amity Noceda.

Like any obsessed fan that respects themselves, I project on the characters, and considering the shit Amity has lived for the name “Blight” the idea that she would want to drop any connection to that doesn’t surprise me.

And hey, what better name that the one from the love of your life?

I don’t know jackshit about fairies or the fae, BUT-

I like to think that the Fae can die, the reason they don’t is that no psychopomp, Death Deity or afterlife wants to mess with them, so they just keep living.

I found hilarious everyone being like "You know what? fuck this, the living can deal with it I will not have them here"

Bonus points to anyone who makes a story about the poor bastard who tried to take one to some afterlife and paid the consequences.

Honestly considering Hunter has been so isolated all his life, and he basically didn’t have a chance to interact with people his age (or see a lot of anything that wasn’t related to books or whatever Belos was teaching him) I honestly wouldn’t be surprised if having feelings for Willow is something that takes him a moment ot process because 1) He never had friends before 2) He hasn’t had a crush before.

Cue to Luz (aka someone who has been a romantic all her life) and decides to explain EVERYTHING about romance to Hunter.

He ends ups very flustered and mildly traumatized.

I may be the last person to realize this but-

Luz’s little fanfic as Luzura (including a doddle of her with Amity being like ‘wow‘) was written on Amity’s diary, this means now she can open her diary and see Luz’s little drawing, including the fact that she wanted to impress Amity.

Wonder how she feels about it.

My #1 post of 2022

I am not sure if someone mentioned this before but, is Luz’s reaction on Reaching Out because people made her feel she should be over her dad’s dead? 

I remember when I watched that episode that I related to the way Luz was behaving while talking about the death of her dad, but it wasn’t until recently that I realized why I related to that behaviour. 

I am not going to go into my private life, but; did anyone (classmates, friends, maybe even a teacher) told Luz that she shouldn’t feel sad anymore?

Because the way she is reacting and how she was phrasing stuff makes me think that people either told her to not be sad about that.

And holy shit doesn’t that made really shows how fucked up things were for her back in her school.

"zarie watch your ste-AGH!"

the boy yelped as he lost his footing on a broken plank and fell into the mud. the other kid laughing at him as they hung upside down.

"watch your steps," they mocked, curling up into themself before a blob of mud hit them square in the face, making them lose their balance and fall in the mud, right across their brother who was snickering.

"ash!" they whined, wiping the mud off their face, "I wanted to take pictures!" the boy snickered as he watched his sibling sulk, "boo hoo, so sad," he mocked as he stood up and tried to shake the mud off as much as possible.

"mama is going to kill us, though," the pair looked at each other in silence, as if they could telepathically whip up a plan. "we'll wash up in the shore before heading back," the pair shrugged, feeling their plan was the best in that scenario as they stood up and got out of the mud, almost loosing their sandals a few times in the sticky mud.

the siblings laid down on the run down deck, the sunset shining on the two muddy children. "why do you tag along with me?" the boy asked, fixing his gaze on his sibling and adding, "I mean, everyone likes you, you could go out and make so many friends. why stick around me?"

the other looked at him in bewilderment before their faced bloomed with a warm smile, "well, mama always told me that at the end of the day, we'd only have each other. and that I should help you out with your loneliness-" "I'm not lonely," the boy interrupted, looking at the other with a slight frown, "I come to these places to not feel lonely."

the other's eyes widened in realization, covering their face with their hands as a smile blossomed on their face again, "you know I could help you make friends, right?" they offered, looking at their brother with a quirked brow. "your friends are too young to be my friends, zarie; but thanks for the offer."

"wish you could meet them, zarie," the knight murmured softly as he leaned against the back of the headstone, a few pictures sprawled out on his lap, deciding which picture to place in the bouquet he'd leave on the grave. "one of them is like you, even his hair... well, maybe his hair is prettier," he snickered quietly to himself, enjoying the teasing, even if his sibling could no longer counter them.

"the other one... you'd be proud of how long we've been alongside each other," he mumbled, his fingertips brushing against a picture of the cyborg he was thinking about. "I'm pretty sure you'd embarrass me in front of him if you were here, though. probably would've outed me the very first day."

he sighed softly as he picked up the bouquet of roses, all of their thorns neatly trimmed, the bandages on his fingertips a testament to his hard work. he put the picture in front of the headstone before placing the flowers directly on top of it, in case the wind decided to blow the picture away.
