Kal-El’s spacecraft crash-landed on Earth in the heart of a bustling city. Confused and disoriented, Kal-El emerged from the wreckage and discovered that he had incredible powers under Earth's yellow sun. However, he had no control over his newfound abilities.
As Kal-El ventured through the city, he inadvertently caused chaos and destruction wherever he went. His superhuman strength damaged buildings and his accidental laser vision ignited fires. Despite his attempts to communicate his peaceful intentions, the city's people feared him and fled. Some even shot pellet-like objects at him, which didn't hurt but weren't welcoming either. Kal-El felt disheartened.
Amidst the chaos, a black creature resembling an eight-legged cat from his home planet (though this one walked on two legs) fearlessly approached him. Kal-El perked up, as he absolutely loved cats. His eyes sparkled in delight as he petted the creature's head, scratched behind its pointy ears, and cooed at it.
The cute creature looked unamused, but it put away the sharp object in its hand, made some growly sounds, and stomped off. It didn't seem hostile, so Kal-El decided to follow it. Along the way, he tried to pick it up for a cuddle, but the creature struggled so much that Kal-El had to put it down to prevent any harm. He did manage to land a kiss on top of its head, though.
And that’s how Kal-El met his first Earthling friend.

Dogstock are typical of what are often deemed the ‘evil’ races in many other fantasy works. They were created by some higher force to be slaves, they are carnivorous by nature, they resemble animals other than human in dentition and build. They growl and bite and walk behind.
The Uhasr (a dogstock culture) are descendants of such slave-infantry that was abandoned when the empire that used them to capture the steppes decided the land wasn’t so profitable after all, and more pressing matters drew their attention elsewhere. Like tools left spent on the ground, the unneeded, excess dogstock were left to survive on their own in Hochkiskuph. The native peoples, of course, did not welcome them any more, or see them any less as oppressors when the hand released the lead. To the Hochkiskuph peoples, the Uhasr are a predatory ghost, an echo that consumes them even in absentia. To the Uhasr, one human is much like another, differing in number and equipment, but never in essence. Uhasr are a species of wild animal with a human face. Humans are prey on two legs. Humans smoke and poison uncovered dens on principle, Uhasr abduct and consume men and women and children all the same.
A common trend I have noticed in media which aims to humanize monsters, is that it often relies on passivity. Humanity is contingent upon kindness. The monster that is A Person only so long as they are a harmless thing at heart, something which can be understood and befriended. Their violence is reluctant, their hearts noble. Grace is a concession to the dominated. Only the toothless beast, declawed and pinioned and caged, is one which has earned its personhood. The ontological enemy supersedes the ontological man.

au but alien cody kinda just... stays with cody
theres another one
it kinda protects him
occasionally
AU where Alien Cody and Cody do a Parent Trap, where AC stays on the show and competes for the million and Cody climbs into the alien pod and takes a nap or something.
Joking, but would you imagine Cody essentially being saddled with his own personal guard dog, who just to happens to look (almost) exactly like him? That's uncanny.
Sierra would have a field day.

Finished the first episode of Scavengers Reign and it is sooo pretty. The artstyle is awesome, not to mention the creativity put into the worldbuilding. I love how grotesque it is, I know this is only the first episode and it's likely to get worse (positive) from here but I love how well the grossness is integrated into the world. Planet Vesta has a fully functioning ecosystem with everything working off of everything else, it's not any more hostile than Earth really, it's just doing what any immune system does: reject and kill things that don't belong. It can't be hostile because it is doing what it has always been doing, and unfortunately the humans are caught up in the middle of it.

I've finally completed my second long, multi-chapter Tron fanfiction, and I think it's an improvement over my first attempt. This time it's a crossover with another of my favorite franchises. I was considering giving it a fancier title, but in the end I thought it was appropriate that it should have a name similar to the classic(?) crossover comics of the 90s:
It is, of course, a horror story, with all the frightful things that can happen when an Xenomorph is involved. I have tried to put all the necessary warnings in the tags over on AO3, but if there's something I've missed, I'd be happy to add it. I'm afraid that the story inevitably involves the deaths of some fan favorite characters. I can't lie about their chances, but... they do have my sympathies.

dude… why did rules of acquisition go so hard with pel’s love story with quark??? that shit was beautiful and gut wrenching… and quark was so relieved his heterosexuality remained intact (as if)
in all seriousness though, really good, i love the ferengi society centered episodes, their writing fascinates me for so many different reasons that i’ve gotta write about sometime

sorry i cant stop thinking about it. i genuinely hate that the response lately to ppls worries about hrt--not talking about 'eveyone needs extensive therapy first' or 'you need to be [some unreasoble entry barrier %] certain cause itll change u forever' or othersuch scaremongering but people literally going 'im worried im gonna lose my job/housing/close relationships that are important to me'--is like. 'well too bad. couldnt be me. i would simply not worry about those things. skill issue. why would anything stop u from going on hrt. if literally anything might make you slightly hesitate or god forbid dissuade you this is a sign youre actually The Enemy.' what is fucking with that

I once saw an eye opening breakdown of how different navigating an urban or suburban area is for a child that's half an adult's height, how much less they can see due to the height and configuration of the environment. The presentation was about safety, how a child might find an environment not designed for them dangerous, but it also made me think about how we all must have memories about 'normal' places that are stored from that alternate perspective:
distances are twice as far
the point of view is too short to see over obscuring barriers, making even mundane environments maze-like
features or conveniences we don't use as children are alien
we are often skipped without logic between destinations as adults 'take us places' without telling us why
Many environments have few to no ways for children to interact with them so they seem barren,
environments that children DO interact with (jungle gyms, play structures, gardens or parks, swimming pools, etc.) are extremely vivid to the exclusion of their surroundings,
Some environments are seen only from the seat of a car and are viewed quickly and in a mass sample without context (unfamiliar neighbourhoods, streets with houses, stores on avenues you never will visit yourself)
rooms are much taller and more empty because we measure space in reference to ourselves and we're physically smaller
When unsupervised, children must pay attention to areas that guardians would have carried them or led them through, calling attention to many of these features even more
Uncertainty about intentions of adult people/entities with more agency than you in these spaces, outside of routines familiar to children
these map 1:1 to emotions conveyed by the Backrooms. Many people remember being a much smaller, more confused explorer.
