Molemates >> Soulmates

( a pic for daydreaming reference eee!) Summary: The class goes on a beach trip and discovers that you and Bakugou have a matching pair of complementary moles in a hidden location.

The beaten path you were walking along went straight through the dense edges of the forest. A simple dirt path that splayed off the main road - where all your cars were parked- and split via a gravel path, which shortly turned into dirt. The dusty loose sand and mulch and mud kicking up onto everyone’s sandal clad feet. A chorus of resounding angry grumbles as the path which was branded as a “short” walk turned more into a “short” hike.   

You were supposed to be walking to a secluded special beach spot to spend the day at. You shouldered on, walking single-file between Iida and Todoroki. The former lean blue haired boy shouting out any hazards along the way. The later duo-haired boy behind you giving out a small huff of a chuckle whenever the you lost your footing. It was narrow and steep in all the right places the loose soil disappearing underneath foot with the promise of breaking into full sand somewhere - somewhere behind you was Aoyama and Hagakure which seemed to trip or slip on the uneven terrain every 5 minutes - causing yourself and the rest of the group up front to sent concerned glances over your shoulders.  

You groaned leaning down to slap another mosquito from your calf only to bump your head on something. You stumbled back seeing that you’d bumped into Iida’s back. “Sorry, Iida,” you chirped, backpedaling a few more steps to regain space. 

The boy turned anround and looked down at you, taking his glasses in one hand, “No, I’m sorry Y/N-Chan!” His eyes moved elsewhere behind you, “Todoroki-kun there may still be more of a spider web up here.” He sputtered, wiping his face and his glasses on the edge of his t-shirt. You lips quickly quirked into a smile, “Thank you for that unintentional sacrifice then,” you added.

Iida nodded solemnly, “It’s my pleasure to eliminate unwanted obstacles for my friends.” - ah the man took everything just a little too seriously.   

“That’s very kind of you, Iida.” 

You glanced behind you, Todoroki crouching underneath another series of low hanging branches right behind you, his tall form awkwardly bent as he held back branches in his left hand - and so did he.  

 “Oi! What’s the hold up?”  

 “Yeah why’d everyone stop? Is something wrong?”

The three of you groaned. The shuffling of the sandy soil kicking up ceasing. Whoever decided to put Bakugou and Midoriya together on cooler duty smack dab in the middle of the line was an idiot. They both worked in perfect tandem now and were respectively too impatient and too eager to get to the beach. 

Todoroki locked eyes with you and without moving an inch reflexively shouted back, “Don’t worry, Deku. We’re moving now. Iida walked into a spider web.” 

A collective sigh broke the surface from your portion of the line and then you were once again on your treck - and it was probably another 2 miles of shuffling through what was progressively more and more sand until you’d started to hear the familiar and promising sound of the waves. And after that your measly little group popped out off the spidery, sweaty, and dusty forest trail to reveal a beach that was worth the journey.  

 It was an untouched several miles of beach - a pink beach. Punctuated by the pummeling froth of the ocean waves underneath the yolk colored sun. 

You stood feeling the misty breeze tickle against your clammy skin sighing in content that your aching feet could now simply dig into the gorgeous warm sand. The rest of you classmates seemed to stand in the same state of awe, except for one brunette who couldn’t hide her excitement. 

Uraraka bolted past you with a delighted shout, clipping by close enough to feel the breeze as she sprinted towards the cool waters already having accidentally flung off her shorts and shirt - to leave her in her bikini- onto Todoroki who stood next to you unabashedly as he calmly pulled them off himself.  

She took off - snagging Izuku in the process as he started rambling and running frantically.  

“Deku! Shush!” She laughed, running and barreling into the ocean with the very confused and very sweaty and tired Izuku. 

They ran until the clear water lapping against the beach swallowed her up to her thighs and then she fell back - throwing their connected hands in the air and bringing Izuku crashing down with her - eliciting a “please be careful!” from Iida. The rest of you stood still in shock. 

Beside you Todoroki had returned and dropped her clothes onto her beach bag muttering, “I’ll just put these here for now.” 

Suddenly she and Izuku popped back up out of the water. “Hurry up! The water feels great!” She hollered, waving a hand. Midoriya flinging his head and shoulders like a dog, droplets of water surely hitting Uraraka in the face as her nose wrinkled on one side before he sheepishly gave a thumbs up in agreement.

Then everyone else, along with yourself, seemed to be shocked out of your tired stupor and suddenly the entire plan of setting up the beach was thrown into the wind. Mina quickly using your shoulder for balance as she kicked off her sandals and shimmied out of a pair of booty shorts that’d she’d thrown on over her bikini bottoms for the “walk.” You stood itching to get your own clothes off. Another few splashes signaling that others had already made it in. Kaminari ran over hopping around trying to slide his ripped jeans off.  

“Oh come on,” Mina scoffed as he held onto her shoulder struggling to wiggled them off in the sand. “It’s alright,” you said shaking your head. Already busy shimming out of your pair of denim shorts. “I’m good!” 

Kaminari scoffed, “Well not all of us can be as graceful as Y/N.” “Oh sure, cause her little cha-cha is so hard to do Kam?” Mina laughed. 

You’d finished slipping your shorts off, stepping out of the little pant legs and flipping your hair back as you stood up, going to strip the old t-shirt from your head. “It’s definetly not that big a deal, Kam. Don’t worry ‘bout Mina she’s just teasing. She used my shoulder too. Ah-“ you popped your head out, toned arms and stomach now free from that wet sticky layer, “so who’s ready to go-“ 

“- Yo’ Y/N you’ve got a cute mole on your ass!” Kam shouted. Mina slapped him in the chest, “Of course she does! Now stop staring at my girls butt!”  

Kaminari stumbled back with his hands up, “Not what I mean! Hey- yo Sero! Doesn’t Bakubro have a mole on his ass?”  

You turned to see Sero poke his head up from where he was busy applying suntan lotion with Kirishima.  

“Huh what?” 

Kaminari sighed. “Doesn’t Bakugou have that mole?! The one on his ass? It’s like - it’s like right here.” He said, pointing to his own butt for reference.  

“I swear it’s just like the one N/N has,” Kaminari took your hand and gave you a playful little spin to the boys. The mole they were seeing being one that’d you’d had forever. A few playful wolf whistles came out from the lot. It was a large dark mole and a little baby one that stood on the side of your right butt cheek a few inches outside your panty line.  

You giggled with a scoff as Mina pretended to faint at the ‘adorableness’ of it all. Kaminari now spinning you in circles for the fun of it all. 

“Oi. Sparky you’re gonna make her sick doing that.” Speak of the devil? 

Kaminari quickly grabbed your shoulders and patted your head, giving you a wink before he left. “Hey Bakubro. Bakugou. Don’t you have a mole that matches the one on our babe of a friend here? See, I just can’t quite remember . . .”

Mina clutched onto your shoulders stifling her giggles into your neck as Kaminari tried to approach Bakugou causally. Bakugou turned his ruby red gaze onto your form his gruffly voice giving out a guttural, “Huh?” He stood on the sand in black swim trucks, his bulky arms crossed over the pink star-shaped scar that sat square in the middle of his chest. 

Kirishima slung an arm around his shoulders, “Yeah man, you do! Here, show them!” 

And with that the three boys started reaching to shove up the bottom of Bakugou’s swim trucks aiming to expose his hidden mole to the world. Sparks were flying before Kirishima managed to heave him up like a giant teddy bear. Sero having managed to tape his wrist together and Kaminari coming in and pulling the curtains back. And sure enough on his left cheek Bakugou sported a mole on the bottom curvature of his ass. One that matched yours minus the extra little baby speckle that you had under it. Mina grinned having disconnected herself from you to point and shout at your friends butt, “It’s totally the same! Quick N/N stand next to Bakugou! So we can compare, quick, quick!” Said blonde sat limp and dejected in Kirishimas hold, utterly confused because he missed the first part of the conversation that started all this. “The fuck are y’all talking about? If these extras have got their hands all over my swim trucks I wanna see whose ass is matching mine!” He demanded. Kirishima cooing and swinging the large man in his arms. “Okay, okay - if you insist,” you grinned, although Mina had already sprinted back and was now dragging your forward. “Here look! It’s Y/N!” Mina chirped as you watched her gesture to your butt like a fancy advertising product over your shoulder. Bakugou’s face seemed astoundingly calm as he hung in Kirishima’s arm. His ruby red eyes blinking from under those thick blonde lashes which tickled the tops of his high cheekbones. A slight pinkish tint to them as he grunted, “Alright, alright. I’ll stand next to her so you idiots can compare.” Kirishima hesistantly plopping him down into the stand as he stalked his way over to you, snapping off Sero’s tape holding his hands together. Bakugou rolled his broad shoulders as he stood next to you, quirking a lopsided smile behind everyone’s back before quirking a brow at you and holding up his swim trunks. The knuckles on his hand brushing against your hip as he hiked it up. A chrous of applause and cheers sounded from your friends as they had solved a mystery that never needed solving. You spared a glance over your shoulder at Bakugou’s mole sitting on the same matching yours. You cocked your head with a grin, “I guess this makes us molemates.” Bakugou cocked his own head, “You know that’s fucking stupid. I’m not calling you that.” You crossed your arms under your chest noticing his eyes flicker there for a moment before meeting your own, “Fine by me - molemate.” You watched as a vein in his forehead actually twitched. His jaw going slack before that terrifying smirk replaced it. “Oi, no. Absolutely not ya’ fucker. We’re not doing this.” And suddenly Katsuki had snatched you around the waist and off the ground. Charging with you like a manic kid with his favorite toy onto the playground as he barreled towards the water. “HEY-“ you shrieked, the wind streaking past your hair, “this is not how you treat your molemate!” You chided trying the 1,2 pat to his forearm to tap out of the mad dash sprint he was making towards the lapping ocean. The rest of the Baku-squad’s cheering and shouting and laughing fading into the distance as the wind whistles against the shell of your ear. The water making gurgling and garbling noises as Katsuki rushed in taking you with him as the water pooled around his strong thighs, which were still running at full speed until the water was up to your neck and shoulders. Katsuki then pushing you away from his sweltering oven-temperature body and into the pure frigid coolness of the ocean. And then plunging you in like a bath toy in the tub. You sputtered flinging the wet strands of hair from your face as the bubbles of rushing water tickled your sides before colliding back into his warm body. Katsuki looked at you with sharp ruby eyes brimming with something exciting. Your toes curled as he opened his mouth, “That cheesy shit good enough for you, molemate?”

Digits In Between The Wings

Characters: Blitzwing, Bumblebee, Astrotrain

When Blitzwing used to be a seeker, he liked to polish himself. Not to the extent of Knockout, of course (no one obsessed over their polisher like Knockout), but enough to make his frame glimmer in the slightest bit. He had the perfect frame to show his glimmer off, but that wasn’t the main reason he polished himself. It wasn’t even about the polish at all! 

It was more about the machine he used.

The one he used, while it was a bit smaller than usual polishers, it used to fit perfectly in the space between his wings. It pressed against the joints of his wing bases in a way that wasn’t too much pressure to hurt or damage them, but enough to stimulate some pleasant feelings. 

Blitzwing used to attach his polisher to a long handle and just slip it between his wings once in a while, keeping it there for several minutes before moving on with his polishing. 

But when he was turned into a Triple Changer, that all changed. 

Blitzwing’s polisher had become too small to be nice between his wings, but it didn’t matter, since he wasn’t even comfortable using the polisher anymore. The idea of it gliding across his frame, one that had changed drastically for him, just made him a little bit sick in his tanks. Every time it glided over his scars, it made him wince in uncomfortableness, since his scars revealed his sensitive metal plates. Also, the experiment must have fragged something up between Blitzwing’s wings, because he felt as if something defective there was aching with everything he did, and touching it caused him lots of pain.

That didn’t mean Blitzwing didn’t at least try.

He tried many times, but he just couldn’t handle the feeling. And then after one wonky attempt, he broke his polisher into pieces in a fit of rage (or was it actually distress? He couldn’t really tell anymore).

After becoming a Triple Changer, his frame, which once had a slight glimmer, had become dull and matte. Blitzwing stopped taking care of his frame, sometimes to the point where Astrotrain had to force him to take care of himself for a while to prevent rust and cracked plates. Astrotrain might have been way taller than him, but he was also a bot who was very gentle with his movements (if he wanted to, most of the time he liked to be overly erratic). His fingers were nimble, originally to handle to spin his blasters and shoot out multiple rounds in quick succession, but also to handle the tools needed to keep a mech functioning. But no matter how much Astrotrain tried to take care of Blitzwing to make sure his unwillingness to do self care didn’t make him go offline, his frame glimmer was lost.

“For Primus’s sake Blitzwing, you should take care of yourself more often!” Astrotrain yelled in exasperation as he pushed one of Blitzwing’s arm plates open to scrape off dried energon build up from a damaged energon line, “Be lucky that this energon line wasn't so major, or you would have been bleeding out for hours on end. And also be lucky that I saw the bleeding before it got any worse!”

Astrotrain finally scraped it off, started patching the energon line, then switched faces and chuckled. “Heh, but I know you're not going to listen to me. It's just typical of you to do whatever you want without any thoughts of the consequences! Typical Blitzwing! All cuckoo and carefree!” 

Astrotrain kept snickering as he closed Blitzwing’s arm plate and stood up, “I know for sure that no matter what I say, we’re going to be right back here again, fixing some new problem!” 

Blitzwing switched faces and fumed, “Oh shut your mouth, slagger!”

“Ok ok, I will, for now. But you cannot shut the fact that my words speak the truth.” Astrotrain turned to walk away, his footsteps thundering, “Oh and by the way, Megatron wants us in the meeting room in ten minutes. I suggest you hurry and don't damage any more of yourself on the way, you know how much Megatron wants his Decepticons in top condition!”

Blitzwing opened his mouth to yell at Astrotrain, but he stopped and closed his mouth again, switching faces and standing up. He looked at his arm, where Astrotrain had fixed his energon line. Astrotrain’s words echoed through his processor multiple times, no matter how annoying it got. Blitzwing wanted to just laugh it off, to think of it as a silly joke, but he couldn't. It wasn't a silly joke. It was the truth.

No matter how much Blitzwing wanted to deny it, it was the truth. The cold hard truth.

Refueling wasn't a big problem for Blitzwing… sometimes. Sometimes he got himself enough to last a while, sometimes he had only enough to run on half a tank. It was quite hard to adjust to a frame that demanded more energon to function, but he made it work eventually (He didn’t). And then there was the purging that happened once in a while during the night… but he didnt like to talk about that.

But what was most annoying about his frame upgrade was the pain that came with it. Not even the idea of three faces annoyed him that much (even though the face switching did hurt at one point). His knees were constantly hurting, due to the weird build of his legs, and he kept breaking his knee braces by tearing them up and destroying them whenever he felt like it. For days on end, his tanks constantly felt sore, no matter if his tank was full or empty or whatever in between. And what was the worst thing was the dull ache in the joints of his wings, and the constant prickling pain down his back in between his wings.

He once wanted to paint over his scars, but every time he thought of it, he always got sidetracked to thinking about painting himself in many different colors wilder than any Decepticon had ever seen before. Despite that sounding like a cool idea, Blitzwing always countered those thoughts because he didn’t want to look stupid or get in trouble with Megatron. Instead, he decided to see how others reacted if someone else was painted in wild colors.

This led to him going to the seeker trine’s room with buckets of paint and painting all sorts of crazy things on them (originally he wanted to just paint Starscream, but seeing them in the seeker pile made him all too happy to paint all three of them). Blitzwing then waited till the next day to see what would happen… It was lots of humiliation and getting punished by Megatron pretty badly. This scared Blitzwing to his very spark, to the point where he felt guilty about it (but no way he would ever admit it was his fault).

Only Astrotrain knows what truly happened on that day.

At that point, Blitzwing had completely given up on trying to fix himself, trying to take care of himself, caring for a frame that he once cherished. No use in caring for a frame that had been warped beyond his own recognition and repair.

“Blitzwing.” Astrotrain spoke, trying to get Blitzwing’s attention. 

No response.

“Blitzwing.” Astrotrain hissed, “You glitch, I know you can hear me,” He looked down at the ground, “Stop ignoring me please.”

Blitzwing eventually raised his head, “What is it.”

Astrotrain looked into Blitzwing’s optics, “There’s only one energon cube left for today.”

Blitzwing’s optic twitched, and he switched faces, “That’s what you bothered me for?!”

Astrotrain switched faces, “Oh EXCUSE me for trying to help my DEAR Amica! Oh what an aft am I!”

“Slag off!”

Astrotrain switched faces, “Do you want the fragging energon cube or not?”

Blitzwing switched faces, “You can have it.”

Astrotrain reached for the energon cube, then stopped.

“You refueled yourself at least more than halfway today, right?”

Blitzwing’s optic twitched, then he switched faces, “Ah yes! I had quite the feast today! Oh such a nice servo salad it was! Aha!”

Astrotrain grimaced for a slight moment before grabbing the cube, “the idea of you eating other Cybertronians still unnerves me heavily… but at least it’s better than nothing. ”

Blitzwing switched faces again and looked at the ground as Astrotrain chugged the energon cube. He felt bad for lying, but also not sorry for it at the same time. No matter whatever Astrotrain felt through the Amica bond.

Speaking of the Amica bond, Blitzwing rarely made use of the emotion sensing ability that the bond had. He had too much going on in his head to go poking around in Astrotrain’s emotions.

But this time, Blitzwing used the bond. He used the bond to try and poke into Astrotrain’s emotions, but gave up when he felt the mess of emotions in there. He didn’t care enough to go in there and try to see what is what.

He just didn’t care.

But then he met Bumblebee. That little yellow Autobot who kind of slightly annoyed him to no end and was the love of his life at the same time. The one who treated every single one of Blitzwing’s faces with love and care, even when he was being a bit of a glitch.

Every time that they met up, Bumblebee would bring something to cheer Blitzwing up, whether it was a few cubes of energon, some cans of oil, a servo (Bumblebee never said where he got it from, to Blitzwing’s disappointment, since it was one of the best servos he ever had), or even his own polisher! 

But the best thing was how Bumblebee tried his best to handle Blitzwing’s pain. He couldn’t do anything about Blitzwing’s knee pain, other than at least try to tell Blitzwing to stop destroying his knee braces. Bumblebee would bring his hands over Blitzwing’s numerous scars, massaging them the best he could (he stopped if Blitzwing was in too much pain though). He would even move his fingers over the space between Blitzwing’s wings, putting his digits between the wings and massaging the wing base joints, soothing the discomfort in them.

It was the best thing Blitzwing had felt in centuries.

Holding the energon cube in his hands, Blitzwing looked down at it with a solemn look on his face. Why did his love offer this to him? He gingerly cupped the cube, afraid to spill a drop and disappoint his little sweetspark. 

“Why aren't you drinking your energon Blitz? Worried that it’ll run away?” Bumblebee chugged his cube of energon and tilted his head at Blitzwing.

A sigh came out of Blitzwing’s mouth. He just couldn’t tell Bumblebee the truth… he couldn’t! 

“Why aren’t you drinking your energon, Blitzwing?” Bumblebee’s antennae drooped in sadness.

Oh god, the sight of Bumblebee being sad hurt Blitzwing to the deepest depths of his spark. He needed to find a way to mitigate the situation before it got worse!

The slight ache in his tanks gave him a great idea.

“Ach… I have a slight tank ache. I don't really feel like refueling right now…” Blitzwing spoke, hoping that everything would stop at that moment.

But when Bumblebee immediately turned his head around to look at him, he was greatly surprised. He didn't expect that Bumblebee would become so attentive to him.

“Alright buddy, lie down.” Bumblebee commanded Blitzwing, “I wanna try something”

Blitzwing was confused, but he laid down anyway. Luckily the ground was soft-ish, or else he would have been very uncomfortable. And so he waited for something to happen

He waited…

And he waited…

And he waited some more…

Until suddenly, he felt a weight on his tanks. Blitzwing immediately looked up and saw that Bumblebee had plopped himself on top of his tanks. He kept staring, even when Bumblebee looked up to meet his gaze. 

“Hey, you’re a big mech, I have to change how I do things here!” Bumblebee pouted.

Blitzwing watched Bumblebee, then switched faces and laughed, “Wow, you’re heavier than I thought!”

He received a slight kick to the tank.

“Not funny.” Bumblebee frowned.

Blitzwing winced, switched faces, and sighed, “Apologies.”

“Good. Now let me do this, and I promise that your tank aches and pains will alleviate soon!” Bumblebee positioned himself and reached out with his hand. 

The hand settled low on Blitzwing’s hips before going up and stopping just underneath his chassis. This was repeated 10 times. Then some semi circle motions across his abdomen, also repeated ten times. There then came some soft massages and kneading, which calmed Blitzwing down.

But when Bumblebee did the little vibrations with his hands, this surprised Blitzwing a little bit.

And then Bee was finished.

“Wow,” Blitzwing gasped, “That was… wow.”

Bumblebee smiled, “I get tank aches too, so Ratchet taught me this to alleviate the pain.”

“Could… you teach how to do that?” Blitzwing asked.

Bumblebee smirked mischievously, “Only if you drink the energon cube. You need it.”

Blitzwing sighed, then drank the cube. It actually felt nice…

It seemed that what Bumblebee did worked really really well.

____

After a while, it seemed as if the treatment Blitzwing got by being Bumblebee’s sweetspark started affecting him in a good way. His frame felt so much more comfortable to him now, his aches between the wings had stopped, his scars were less sensitive, and he purged much less. Face switching was less of a chore to him now, more being more flowy instead of jerky and sudden. He even used what Bumblebee taught him to alleviate tank ache.

Astrotrain, as observant as he was, was bound to notice something.

“Damn Blitzwing, youve having more energon right now than ive seen you have in an entire week!” Astrotrain laughed, slapping Blitzwing on the back.

Blitzwing’s wings twitched from the slap, his face switched, and he scowled. Finishing his energon cube, he turned towards Astrotrain.

“So I guess Swindle sold you some good sense or something?”

“No you dumbaft, Swindle hasn’t even been here in a while. And any transactions I do or will do will be face to face with him, cause I don’t trust him entirely.”

“Ah, ah.” Astrotrain smirked as he kneeled down, “Then tell me what’s gotten you to act so different? It’s definitely not from you following my advice, that’s for sure.” Another laugh from Astrotrain ensued.

Blitzwing fumed for a bit, then switched faces, “it’s… the little Autobot.”

Astrotrain paused for a moment, then switched faces, “What did the Autobot do.”

Blitzwing reminded himself that Astrotrain was not entirely trusting of Bumblebee, so he had to choose his words carefully if he didn’t want to accidentally screw everything up.

“He… gives me energon every time we meet…” Blitzwing switched faces “He treats me like a queen! His beautiful big queen!” 

Astrotrain froze, not expecting to hear that. Switching faces, he brought himself closer to Blitzwing, eyeing him curiously.

“So you’re saying that this… tiny little Autobot… has been helping you with your problems?”

Blitzwing nodded vigorously.

Astrotrain suddenly switched faces, “Well FINALLY! Finally someone got some sense into your processor!” Laughing, he patted Blitzwing on the shoulder, “And, please keep this up. It’s healthier for you, and there’ll be more for your little Autobot to love!”

Blitzwing switched faces, blushing in embarrassment, but nodded anyway.

After a while of snickering, Astrotrain switched faces, “But I must not get sidetracked, since there is something I have to say: Megatron has commanded that we go do an energon raid in about three hours. We actually have to be out of the base in one and a half hours,” Astrotrain said with a bit of bitterness in his voice, before softening his tone, “So have another cube and we can go, okay?”

Blitzwing nodded his head and drank his energon cube, “Alright.”

Even though he knew that his scars would never heal, Blitzwing knew that Bumblebee would be there for him, no matter what.

And that was more than enough for him.

big deep breath OK SO . ive been so excited for this comeback like idk with every new cb i feel like i get even more excited than with the precious one yk so i was really waiting for it to come out!! they released the mv while i was in class (they hate me) but during a little break not long after i managed to watch it and i was bobbing my head and swinging my feet at the sound LJKE U DONT GET IT I WAS GENUINELY SO HAPPY

What do you think of Ratana? She only did two characters (Ishtar and Leonie) but still managed to make them distinct.

Also Leonie is my fav don’t judge me.

What, I love Leonie! I know a lot of people have issues with her (which I can understand, she kind of comes off as too jealous over Jeralt) but she also resolves that jealousy and apologizes to you (Plus when Jeralt dies, she apologizes for crying and acknowledges that it should be hurting you way more than it hurts her). I like to think that between Leonie and Alois and Byleth, Leonie's like your sister and Alois is the big-brother/uncle type of character. Definitely no hate here for her (and can I say her Three Hopes timeskip haircut was WAY better than her Three Houses haircut, no offense. It just fit her character better).

But anyways, Ratana plays Ishtar and Leonie (and I actually didn't realize she played Ishtar until now, lol).

So I think her performance for both is outstanding. Ishtar is quiet, troubled (in her original unit appearance), reflective (in her Ascended unit), and determined to do good. I think the line about one of the dolls she's holding was precious, and MAN I just think Ascended Heroes was a great idea, Ishtar and Idunn and Joshua show that. Leonie is very matter-of-fact and outgoing, and I love how expressive her voice is compared to Ishtar. Ratana's got a very youthful voice, and it works to her benefit.

I think she was perfectly fit for both characters, as I think she delivers her lines for Ishtar and Leonie flawlessly. No complaints on that end.

Ok, this one will surprise some people... I think she's got some darn good range. I know I usually state that tone and inflection make for good acting and differentiating characters but not for range, but... She makes her voice so quiet that there's kind of a whisper to her voice, and it changes so drastically when Leonie is loud and clear-spoken and doesn't have that quality to her voice. I kind of wanna see her voice more characters, maybe even a Book villain sometime!

Overall, I think Ratana's an 8/10, and I'll bump it up to a 9 if she gets a brand new character to voice.

tribe nine tier list except i only explain the top 3 because it got too long and i love my faves lol

Kiyoshiro Haneda:

Kiyoshiro has stuck to me since the VERY beginning. He has always been one of, if not, my favourite Tribe Nine character of all time. On some of my socials I legit just have his name as a username.

Although his character seems to be revolving around Sonoda most of the time, you can determine most of his personality if you truly look into his character. Kiyoshiro is a very smart and analytic person when he takes his time to do stuff and not just rush to it like he always rushes to kill Sonoda. He is also a generally good person who wants the best for his - i assume - hometown, even if he takes weird or drastic measures to get to that point, since he has to blend in with the rest if he wants to even survive. But even if he's a good guy he doesn't seem the type to be too optimistic about things, he seems more on the pessimistic side of things. Which makes him all the more realistic given the circumstances of his lifestyle. There is absolutely no insight on his backstory, however, so there's not much to talk about here.

But there's also little things I like about his character, too. For example, he is paaaaaaaaaathetic!! I mean, really, but it's cute honestly. For instance, this guy is afraid of snails!! Can you imagine this. Living in a lawless, chaotic, pollution-filled city full of criminals, where you know you could meet your demise at any point in time... and the thing you're afraid of is snails??

Don't even get me started on the way he can't tell jokes. Like at all. On Kai's birthday he told him a bunch of jokes that were so offensive/unfunny Kai had to pause and look at him like 😐 . IT'S SO FUCKING FUNNY?? Like that guy laughs at everything and nothing all at once. How did it come to this... I'm so curious now I really wanna hear those jokes

And don't even get me started on how insane he is about Sonoda. He sees BUTTERFLIES and starts to think about him because of the design on the back of his coat

(did you know that pattern has significance to Sonoda's character?? because of the butterfly effect in the chaos theory?? Okay well now you do. The GAREKI WAR edit also represents him mostly but also Ota tribe in general, obviously it is their theme so).

It's like the Pavlov's dog experiment, the one where they conditioned the dog to salivate at the sound of a bell if that sound was presented at the same time it was given food. Yeah it's like that but with Kiyo and butterflies/Sonoda.

Anyway, another thing I adore about him is his voice, both in the sub and dub. It fits him perfectly and I think Nozuyama and Zach did amazing jobs. I love both of them but his dubbed voice is sassier and funnier to me. Fav line was ''But just look at me now, carting the goods around like his personal errand boy!'', because it is so ironic that he says that as he is literally doing what Sonoda wants, and I'm assuming this and the robbery/bombing at Setagaya wasn't the first time he's been doing it. You really are an errand boy Kiyo. And the tone he said this in was so fucking funny to me

Oh and his design is absolutely great. He is so ugly especially in the anime version. His shit is so fucked up too. I love him to death he's so cute I wanna squish his cheeks.

Last but not least, his name, Kiyoshiro is also very intriguing to me, because if you look at it's etymology, you'll find that his name quite literally means "Pure Death", which could mean a lot of things. The way I see it, it could be a reference to how he lives his life in Ota as an assassin (Death), but has (Pure) intentions. Maybe I'm looking too much into it but if not then hey that's an awesome detail

Taiga:

On God this guy is the most mentally mistreated character in all of Tribe Nine history. And what I mean by that is how the Minato tribe treats him like a huge joke. Nobody takes him seriously, nobody even tries to help him, nobody praises him (sincerely) when he gets better and treats it like it's a one-time thing when he is actively learning and trying to better himself. The complete opposite effect of how they treat Haru, honestly. I think the Minato tribe doesn't understand the concept of a person changing, because they just took their first impression of Taiga from when they first met and ran with it.

He becomes the butt of the joke very often and I genuinely don't get why the closest thing to snapping he did was tell Haru to fuck off after Haru tried to help him and threw his bat on the ground AFTER he left.

But honestly, when I think about it, it shows how despite being a usually emotionally-driven guy, he can show to be emotionally mature at times. I think he changed this aspect of himself a lot after Shun's death. And even more after he became Hanafuda's pupil and after Ojiro took the crown and changed the rules of XB.

If you study his behaviors after episode 8 (especially in episode 10), you'll understand what I mean by this. He goes from being a man who makes idiotic and selfish decisions and doesn't ask for anybody's advice, to relying on and opening up to people when he needs to and tries his best at helping the people he now cherishes deeply.

I don't have any picture to provide here really just please rewatch the episodes I mentioned!!!

His character growth is just amazing and that's just one of the many things I like about him because with that he is one of the most relatable characters in Tribe Nine to me.

I do believe his backstory should be more looked into though. All we know about Taiga's backstory is that he's been a fisherman most of his life and that he comes from overseas (presumably Ireland? given his accent) to become the "strongest man in the world". That last part feels very loosely written to me and I think should be talked about. I mean come on he is literally the main character alongside Haru. I also believe he is very much implied to be AroAce, given the fact that he refutes many of the romantic/sexual advances that have been made towards him throughout the show. (This could also be read as gay coding, since women are mostly the ones trying to engage with him romantically/sexually but I feel like AroAce describes him more since he doesn't try to get with men in the show either. Or anyone for that matter.) But I won't go too much into it considering it's not explicitly canon (and I doubt it ever will be, sadly) and this is just a sort of headcanon based on stuff that happened in the show. And the things that happen in it can be interpreted differently from person to person. I do however think it's a cool thing about him

Anyway, another thing I liked about him was his short-lived one-sided rivalry with Shun, it was pretty funny to me and they had an awesome dynamic.

Speaking of awesome dynamics, his friendship with Haru is SOOOOO good. When I think about it for a second I don't think they were all that involved with each other much (at least positively) in the beginning of the show, although I did cherish their little interactions from time to time, but once Taiga became stronger after his training and saved Haru from getting killed, that was the start of it all really

Their little duo and everythinggg..!!! I especially loved them in episode 12, their little conversation on their train was so sweet and Taiga trying to comfort Haru after being rejected by Saori at the end made my heart tear up a little.

Ouuughhh I know I said I didn't like Haru but their friendship everything to me.

They are also very silly in the official arts. Taiga always trying to grab something from Haru's hands is so silly to me. Taiga is so silly to me.

Back to just Taiga, his design is cool too, my favourite thing about it is his tattoos. What could they mean?? Maybe he got that as a stylistic choice given he always has his chest out to show off his tattoo even in other outfits he wears.

Edit: Just did a google search. ''Often representing wisdom, freedom, and strength, an Eastern-style dragon tattoo is a symbol of power.'' Yeah pretty much represents him well.

Also many people may not agree on this one but I love his dubbed voice. I think it's a nice detail that Taiga has another accent other than an American accent or whatever. It makes it realistic since he does come from overseas. I also like his sub voice because 1 I'm a big TWEWY fan and he shares the same voice actor as Fret and 2 it fits him very well, maybe I'm also just used to it but there's this spark in his voice I can't really describe that makes it fitting.

Yui Kamiki:

I can't quite explain it completely but she is so interesting to me. I truly hope she makes a comeback in the game and becomes the main antagonist because she is just amazing.

Kamiki is a woman who looks nice and loyal to her co-workers/tribe members, but is rotten and evil-scheming on the inside. The reasons for her trying to govern Neo-Tokyo from the shadows is currently unknown, but I think one of the reasons why might be a hunger for power. The hunger for such power may come from an inner conviction of lack of self worth or a lack of feeling acknowledged that probably stems from something that happened to her in her life, or the fact that she's been just a secretary to the Chiyoda government for so long.

To cut this short, she is a very mysterious character with an extremely mysterious motive for her goals. And I love mystery characters. A lot. Which is why she is on my top 3.

She was already there before the Chiyoda illustration novel came out, and after its release, well lets just say I loved her even more! Kamiki is sketchy and that is my favourite attribute to her because you never know what she might do. Which makes her an amazing antagonist,

With the novel's release, I also was able to a better look on the enemy relationship between her and Kazuki, and I am obsessed with it. They had such an impact on me after reading it that I kept thinking about the both them for weeks. I beg of you to read it even if the translation will probably get messed up a little.

Much like Kiyoshiro and Taiga, I love her voice, both sub and dub. Her voice is soft and smooth and the tone of her voice makes you kinda get that vibe from her that she is up to something somehow. Thank you Amber-Lee and Komatsu. 🙏

Don't even get me started on her design, she rocks both the Chiyoda uniform and the XB gear. Period.

Her carrying a gun is such a nice detail to me. Because she can easily enforce her authority onto others with a simple weapon, which makes her character all the more better. Because even though she is clearly very strong, and even trains for it every single morning, she still wants to ensure she is superior to others.

Her name also fits her in that regard, You see, in Kamiki, the "Kami" (神) part meaning "god/deity" reflects her superiority complex over others. Which I find to be an amazing detail. It fuels my headcanon of her having a God complex at least a little bit. Last but not least I love her appearance in the webtoon more than the anime. And by that I mean her role in it and how she is depicted.

She is more often by Ojiro's side here than in the anime. Which makes you really see her role in the story before her whole ordeal.

With that, this essay is done and over with. Throughout the writing of this I realized how lengthy this post was and decided to only include my top 3. I am exhausted, frankly, but hey at least I'm getting my thoughts out there. I've been mostly quiet about my Tribe Nine opinions for years so it's nice to do so now.

10 Years Of Songbird: Brittana Fan Project

Hello my fellow Brittana lovers!

First of all, happy 10 years to the iconic Glee episode that is Rumours and the beautifully moving performance that is Songbird. Such a pivotal part in Brittana's story, and one that will forever be ingrained in my mind. Naya's voice still gives me goosebumps and reduces me to tears on that performance, paired with Heather's genuine tearful reaction.

Second of all, this is up slightly later than planned so apologies for that, but Tumblr glitched on me big time and I had to repost this all again which considering I had a draft built up for days, was rather inconvenient, but we’re here now and hopefully it was worth the wait!

Putting this project together has brought me so much joy in revisiting my favourite ship. I don't think I will ever tire of reading about them, and hearing from others why they love them so much and how this ship resonated with them.

For me, Brittany and Santana were the first positive representation I saw of a WLW relationship. I was shook to the core watching their story unfold, in how much it mirrored what was going on in my own life with my own denial and with my own relationship. I found myself clinging to that storyline like an anchor, as if it was going to give me the answers to my own story. Throughout all the confusion I had in my own coming out and realisation that I was a lesbian, the storyline gave me hope that one day, everything would be okay. Watching them go from confused and conflicted best friends to wives gave me so much hope for the future, and now as a 27 year old out and proud gay woman, I still look at this storyline with the same love-filled eyes.

Even as Glee ended and I stepped away from the fandom, Brittana have always been a huge part of my life, always there in the background, always my comfort storyline to turn to and rewatch a bunch of times. But losing Naya last year really brought me back to the fandom and the community and reminded me why I loved them so much.

I think what I love most of all about this ship is how organic it was. It came from the fans, and from Naya and Heather encouraging the writers to take it seriously. Because of this, I also wanted to add in some little touches of Heya, and include quotes from Naya and Heather talking about their fave scenes.

I'll forever be indebted to this storyline in what felt like a really hard and confusing time in my teenage years.

Brittany & Santana Talk To Holly Holliday About Their Feelings- 2x15, “Sexy”

Choosing a favorite scene is hard so I'll choose one of my favorite lines: in the episode Sexy when Santana and Brittany first talk to Holly about their sexuality, Britt says "I don't know how I feel because Santana refuses to talk about it".

I love this line because most people would play it off as Brittany being a simpleton, but that's not the case. Brittany is saying she doesn't know if she's allowed to like Santana as more than her best friend. She doesn't know if it's right. Because if Santana isn't in to girls then Brittany could be crossing a line, a line where she could possibly be making Santana uncomfortable. Brittany obviously knows how she feels about Santana but she wants to make sure Santana feels for her in the same way before admitting to it, as not to ruin what they already have.

Landslide- 2x15, “Sexy”

It was incredibly difficult for me to choose my favorite Brittana scene. There are so many that I love and find important to me...some of these moments were even literally life-altering. Before Brittana, for example, I didn't know that girls could be gay, and I had no idea that what I felt for some of my female friends was anything other than platonic. I'm sure I would have realized I was queer eventually, but this ship and the fandom that I found myself in made the process so much easier for me. But I digress :)

I eventually narrowed it down to four choices—Landslide, Songbird, the Heart Locker Scene in New York, and Cherish/Cherish in Heart, and out of these I've decided to single out Landslide as my numero uno, as it was this very scene that started my decade-long love affair with this ship :)

There are so many things that I love about this scene. Earlier in the show we see Brittany attempt to talk about their relationship knowing that they were more than just best-friends-with-benefits, but Santana would instantly close herself off. Still, Brittany pressed on, determined to understand what they had become, while Santana began to realize that what they had—what they could become—was worth letting herself be vulnerable, worth the risk of getting herself hurt. The fact that Landslide was the product of this early struggle gives it so much meaning ;u;

The scene itself has all these details that make my heart ache in the best way possible...the way they look at each other throughout the song, Santana's eyes a myriad of emotions, full of sadness, confusion, conflict, longing, Britt's eyes filled with concern knowing how much it's taking her best friend to be so vulnerable, then the pride that shines through when she looks at Santana after the performance; the way that Santana's voice breaks singing "and I'm getting older, too"; when she stands afterwards and goes over to Brittany, and Britt opens her arms to hold Santana instantly like it's a reflex; the way that they fit against each other so perfectly, like they were made to be in each other's arms...even the visual composition of the scene was perfect ToT That instant of them hugging each other is a study in contrasts with the way Britt's flaxen hair shines against Santana's night-dark head, and with the way Santana's soft white blouse contrasts against Brittany's deep blue denim top ;u; It's gorgeous.

What is a landslide? Simply put, it’s defined as a collapse of a mass of earth or rock from a mountain or cliff. That’s the perfect way to describe the rocky relationship between Santana and Brittany in S2, and it‘s exactly why their performance of the infamous Fleetwood Mac song of the same name (Sexy; 2x15) is such a pivotal moment in time in for them.

Santana showed a side of herself to her friends, but most importantly to Brittany, that many would deem her incapable of ever doing. For that moment she allowed that brick wall she always had built up around her for protection to come slowly crumbling down. And the best part? She allowed that — wanted that — to happen. She needed to bare her soul to the person she loved most, but she wasn‘t sure how or when, or if she ever could.

Seeing Santana put her heart on her sleeve and confess her feelings of love and admiration for Brittany through song — finally — is one of the highlights of the entire series for me. We see her trap herself within a new world for a few minutes, one that contains only the two of them through her eyes, and let her emotions do the talking. Brittany understood everything without a single word being spoken to her. Santana hadn’t opened up to anyone at this point about how she felt, not even to herself, but so much was understood between them without saying nothing at all. My favorite spoken line is Brittany‘s, „Is that really how you feel?“

As a viewer, it was such an infamous moment because we now get to cheer for them. We see that they are on the same page with one another, that through it all, their attraction and desire for one another never wavered. They wouldn’t be a a couple for quite a bit more time, but they both now understood what we as viewers saw all along. Santana stopped denying her sexuality; she stopped denying what Brittany meant to herself. She still had a lot to sort out and wasn’t ready to free herself from the constraints of her sexuality, but she made the biggest move: allowing Brittany on the other side of that wall with her.

This performance let to the scene we grew to love known as the Hurt Locker, which is the scene that made the Brittana fandom sing praise to the high heavens. Santana felt like she could finally confess her feelings to Brittany. She was terrified, but she somehow found the courage within herself to stop closing the door on opportunities. So, I‘m thankful for Holly Holiday for being the person that Santana and Brittany felt comfortable enough to go to, and I‘m thankful for her willingness to perform with them, because it gave us much more than a song — it gave us hope. It gave us validation. It gave us Brittana.

Hurt Locker-2x15, “Sexy”

Hurt Locker is my fave scene - just Santana finally coming to feel and admit the truth within. I've probably watched it a thousand times and I'll never get sick of it. The expressions and unspoken acting Naya and Heather put into it give me all the feels!

Okay so my favorite Brittana scene is probably the scene where Santana express her feelings for Brittany during “sexy” and says she’s afraid to be with Brittany because of the talks and the way people are gonna stare and that she wasn’t even afraid to what people would say to her face but to what people would say behind her back.

And that’s because I feel the same way. I’m not a lesbian, I’m bisexual, but at the moment I have a girlfriend and I am so afraid to come out to even the rest of my family (apart from my parents and sister) because I always hear them talking about these girls with names such as “dyke” or something, and it was good to see on tv someone with the same fears and it is so good to see that they had a happy ending and got married and that all this started when they decided “not to care” about everybody else’s opinions and be themselves and be happy.

It’s so, so strange to do this without Naya, but here we are, and she and Heather made this all so beautiful. When I tried to answer this question about my favorite scene, I went first to Songbird - Naya has one of my favorite voices in this whole world - and then to Landslide, and then to Me Against the Music, and all those answers seemed really good. Brittany and Santana spoke to each other so much through music - voices and words and touch - and Heather and Naya gave themselves to their characters so much - and Naya to song so much, and Heather to dance - that they would disappear into Brittana, and would just seem like they were love, made visible. Brittana is love always seems like such a true thing to say, to me. But while what occurred to me first were three songs, I realized that my favorite scene - the one that hit me the hardest - will probably always be the Hurt Locker.

Naya was just so shining there, Santana so full of love and this terrible ache and this more terrible hope, all for Brittany, that you could see Heather glowing back, though so much more quietly. It was an absolutely tremendous thing to see a full-on love scene playing out in the middle of a crowded hallway. Naya and Heather were so beautiful together, as friends and as actresses and as onscreen lovers, and after seeing that scene for the first time, I cried every day for a week, always at these quiet, unexpected times. The love and the hurt and the fear and the hope were so raw in Santana - both in Naya’s performance and in the beautiful script - that it brought everything back about the confusion of starting out with that Oh, god. I am never, never going to be like everyone else. I love her way, way too much. But somehow, the scene made my whole world feel safer. I could see myself, and others could see me. Songbird- 2x19, “Rumours”

My favorite moment is Santana singing Songbird to Brittany because that is an all time classic romantic song, and Santana (Naya) sings it beautifully, and Brittany just sits there mesmerized. Plus I love what they are wearing, and how they look. i think it's signifcant that Santana sang her love for her here in the choir room, and it's where they had many of their big moments - first together, the break-up song, the flowers in 5, the proposal.

My first fav scene out of two is Songbird of course because seeing Santana pouring her heart out to Britt is just the most beautiful thing ever. She was scared to accept who she really was and when it comes to her love for Brittany she’s not scared anymore because loving her is the easiest thing to do. Plus, seeing how Britt reacted was so beautiful. She knew Santana was scared and she was proud of how she confessed her love, through a song, because she knew Santana wasn’t good with words.

Heart Locker- 2x22, “New York”

My favorite Brittana scene is after Nationals in 2x22 by the lockers.

What I love most about this scene is Brittanys tell it how it is attitude. When Santana said that it clearly wasn’t about winning for her, Brittany looked right through her bullshit, knowing that Santana was getting defensive, because Santana knew what this year was really about for Brittany (and herself too of course), she just didn’t want to admit to it.

You can clearly see that Santana is still scared and hiding and that she still feels like she’s is going to lose Brittany any moment. But Brittany reassures her, tells her how much she loves Santana and makes her feel safe.

My favorite Brittany is always when she’s finally allowed to have feelings and say something. Often the writers didn’t give her anything to do or just made her a caricature of a person. But when she was allowed to express herself, it was in her truest, most vulnerable form. Due to writing, Brittana often seemed one sided, but it’s moments like these that show us how much Brittany loves Santana and how much she wants only the best for her.

For me, the scene felt like the real beginning. They have been taking baby steps before, treading the water. But now Brittany dove right in and her boldness made Santana follow her :)

Santana and Brittany sitting in the warm lighting of their favourite restaurant in the almost comfortable awkwardness of their tender baby relationship melted something in my baby lesbian heart.

They're teenaged best friends who fell in love and this scene is just so fluffy and cozy and perfectly reflects their dynamic - they're so obviously head over heels for each other and everything about their relationship feels new and electric and full of possibility, but they've also been love each other forever. Santana's eyes lighting up at Britt holding her hand and Britt being so purely herself and everything about the scene just screams home to me and is the moment the show really became about them to me.

For me, it was the Adele Mashup (specifically the longing looks exchanged during it). I watched that scene over and over again when I was a kid because I felt like it did a great job of truly encapsulating what it's like to have feelings that you desperately want to pursue but can't do to your surroundings. The whole thing really stuck with me.

Naya's performance felt so genuine and, throughout that entire song, you could really feel what Santana was going through as a closeted lesbian who was terrified of losing everything. And the fact that Brittany was so close during the whole performance and, yet, instead of her singing one of the lead parts with her, they just exchange looks. I just thought it did a great job of expressing a trapped feeling.

My favourite Brittana moment happens when Santana is singing, The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face. She sings the line, “I felt your heart so close to mine,” while a flashback of her and Brittany in the locker room plays. I get teary-eyed whenever I watch this scene. The love between them is so beautiful, and it’s so refreshing to see genuine sapphic love portrayed on screen.

It took me so long to decide on what my favorite Brittana scene is but i ultimately decided on the scene at the end of Heart. It’s just such a sweet moment for them. They are openly going on a date and even kiss in front of other people without caring about what anyone might say. They have come so far from the beginning of their relationship and it is just lovely to see them be so happy with each other.

Ok so my second favorite scene is in 3x13 when Santana asked the god squad to sing a song for Britt. So the scene at Breadstick at the end and the kiss they shared after Cherish/Cherish is just beautiful. Seeing Santana being so proud to call Brittany her girlfriend and singing her song for her is everything to me. Also Britt’s reaction was too cute. The love in her eyes when Joe told them the god squad was going to perform for her is the cutest thing ever. The kiss they shared at the end of the song was so passionate and it gives me butterflies every time I see the scene. It was also the first Brittana kiss we saw onscreen.

Mine- 4x04, “The Break Up”

It might seem strange, to choose a breakup scene for a couple's best. It's a scene that broke thousands of hearts and continues to make us cry, even after having seen the whole journey unfold and even after knowing that Brittana will, in the end, be okay. But to me, it's a scene that encapsulates much of what I love about these two and what they mean to each other. "Sophomore year, I used to sit in this back row and secretly watch you. I counted the number of times you'd smile at me, and I'd die on days that you didn't." Half the reason why I chose this scene is this quote. The sheer power of it still shakes me whenever I hear Santana utter these words. The sincerity behind them makes me stop and truly consider what it is she’s saying. It’s a summary of their journey so far. It’s a moment of incredible vulnerability, the confession of a girl who fell in love with her best friend and was terrified of the consequences of that love. Not as much as she was terrified of what it would mean to not be loved back, though. 

But Brittany loves Santana with the same passion, even if it manifests differently. It’s why she holds on as long as she can and why it’s even harder for Santana to face their issues. Because you see, I understand that many dislike the reasoning behind their breakup and that it only happened here because everyone else was doing it. But there’s something so deeply caring about the way they consciously make the decision not to hurt each other by leaving themselves in this in-between state of long-distance relationships. Something so genuine about the way they say they would never cheat on each other but also something so mature in realizing that they can’t be what the other needs right now. That, to me, displays such a pure form of love. As pure as catching glances and counting smiles in the back row. As pure as words of encouragement and saying to someone: I'm yours. 

Even though they were already inseparable in sophomore year, Brittany smiling at Santana during Glee practice is an intimate moment that meant everything to her. And even though it hurts, Santana letting go of Brittany before they can even think of hurting each other is such a deep declaration of love. What makes it bittersweet yet hopeful instead of just being heart-shattering is the way Santana turns the otherwise optimistic and romantic song “Mine” into a sad one, creating one of the show’s most gorgeous solo performances in the process. Because when she sings Brittany is the best thing that’s ever been hers, we all know it was true in sophomore year, it is true now and it will be on the day they exchange vows. Because Santana’s right when she sings they’re gonna make it, even if it takes a while. Even if they are (and we are) crying right now, even if it takes a few more days of dying in the absence of Brittany’s smile lighting up her world. Because even when they’re breaking up, Brittana reaffirm that they’ll always love each other the most.

Santana Walks Brittany Out Of The Auditorium One Last Time- 4x22, “All Or Nothing”

Valerie- 5x12, “100”

My favorite scene by a pretty wide margin is “Valerie” from “100”. It’s got that palpable backstage chemistry that Naya and Heather had that shone through so clearly in season 1, it’s poetically choreographed, and the songs even more lyrically significant than before.

I believe that Santana and Brittany are at their best and most smitten when they’re doing what Naya and Heather love the most: singing and dancing, respectively. This is no exception. Just look at Brittany trying not to smile at the beginning. When the shot is on her after Santana starts to sing, you can see her face change from smiles to grimace as if she had forgotten herself. You can’t tell me Heather didn’t break there for a second.

Every little mannerism throughout the whole sequence is laced with that fun, alarmingly pure energy. It could’ve been just excellent acting, but it felt so real. And why wouldn’t it? Naya had to learn Heather’s dance from “Sectionals”. Watching your best friend pull off some of your most iconic moves and then joining in, that’s gotta be fun.

Yeah, Santana’s dancing the choreography from their sectionals with Mike. Within the capacity of an untrained dancer, of course. She’s trying to get Brittany back into the groove by dancing probably the most involved number that the New Directions have ever done. And one that Brittany probably had the most fun with because she choreographed it with Mike. That’s some good writing. And it works, and it’s cute, but once Brittany joins in, the sequence deviates from the original.

We get this just wonderful moment of Brittany dancing solo centerstage fully embracing her passion. After she gets her moment, she and Santana dance either with each other swing-style or towards each other. You can’t forget about that embrace at the end when Santana sort of dips her. They’re not even back together at this point. Santana doesn’t want to get back together at this point. But I feel like I’m watching them dancing at their wedding 3 hours into the reception.

And I mean what an appropriate song to use given the circumstance. “Valerie” is about missing an ex after coming back to your hometown. When we heard Santana solo it at sectionals, it wasn’t super meaningful. It was an excellent way to show off Santana’s vocals and Brittany and Mike’s choreography somewhat independently. But here? Let’s talk about line distribution.

First verse, Santana sings solo. Notably, Brittany is harmonizing behind her piecemeal. By the chorus, she’s joined with Santana fully. Second verse, she’s soloing, joining the dance and by the end they’re dancing together. They’re singing and dancing about missing each other together.

But the song’s not my favorite part. Not even the dance. Not really. My favorite part is the culmination. Santana and Brittany are participating in each other’s disciplines and passions.

That’s an awesome couple right there. They went from singing and dancing somewhat removed from each other to singing and dancing with each other, and even when they were broken up, they still shared their respective passions with each other effortlessly.

My favorite Brittana scene is Valerie S5. It just feels so significant to me that Santana chose this particular song to get Britt out of her funk. Valerie is special to both of them, it’s the first competition solo Santana ever got and it was the first time we ever got to witness the dance skills of one Brittany S. Pierce.

It was the first time Brittany got to show off how talented she was and how she was so much more than the dumb blonde everyone thought she was. Now, however, no one thinks she’s dumb. Now everyone sees her as just another statistic for MIT.

Santana, however, sees right through that and sees her for who she really is - not dumb, not just a genius, but Brittany, the girl who loves to dance. So Santana picks the same song from the first time Brittany got to show off her dancing to prove to her once again that dancing is what she’s meant to do.

Churros Kiss- 5x12, “100”

The infamous churros scene lives in my head rent free. Why? Because we saw a level of confidence in Brittany that we had never seen before and, in that moment, we were all rooting for her for giving us what we knew was right and what we knew we needed. The fans knew Brittana was endgame, Brittany knew, and we just sat back and waited for Santana to realize it as well. (Let’s give her credit: she knew.) We had waited 1.5 seasons for more and we finally got it, mouthful of churros and all.

I love this scene because we see Santana and Brittany a bit older and a lot wiser; Brittany knows that after all the time they had spent apart, Santana is the only one she really wants and she felt like she needed to tell her, to show her, before it was too late. I feel like everything Brittany did in this scene was very spontaneous and on a whim, and it makes it that much hotter.

The kiss. It’s my favorite kiss between the couple by a mile. Brittany put her heart on her sleeve and risked everything and just went in for the kill. You can see the twinkle in her eye right before she leaned in and she didn’t hesitate to show Santana what she wanted. I do appreciate Santana’s hesitancy because of their storyline at the time, but I don’t doubt for a second that she didn’t want Brittany back, too. She was just incredibly cautious, and no doubt, caught by surprise. They had been through so much and had finally found a place in their friendship/relationship where scars were healing and hearts weren’t as broken as before.

You can see in the way Santana looks at her after being kissed, the way in which she listens to her, that the wheels in her head are already turning. We know she knows what Brittany is saying is true. She just has to process what this means for her, for them, for her life back in New York. She’s just putting the scattered puzzle pieces back together, but she knows what the picture already looks like.

The kiss on the cheek? The delicious cherry on top. Brittany, having already been pushed away, one again doubled down on how she felt and so quickly, and respectfully, reminded Santana of that. You can see Santana’s breath hitch during this moment when their faces are so close together, and it’s obvious that her love for Brittany never wavered. As she always was, smitten is her middle name.

Brittana’s entire relationship from S1-S6 can be summed up, for me, with one infamous line spoken by Brittany during the churros scene, “You can’t recreate what you and I have.”

The Lilies Scene- 5x13, “New Directions”

I will always remember being a curious and scared teenager. I was almost in high school when Brittana became official and it suckerpunched me. The fear, the anxiety, the angst, the love, all of it was so relatable. Brittana had so many trials and tribulations and they always came out better and stronger both as individuals as a couple. My favorite Brittana scene is when Brittany fills the room with lilies for Santana. It really proves that the connection between them is incredibly strong and they understand each other better than anyone else. Their chemistry is off the charts and you can really feel their love for each other through the screen. The Bedroom Scene- 6x03, “Jagged Little Tapestry”

It's hard to pick one favorite scene because I just love them all. But I'm gonna go with the scene that made me the happiest and that's the bedroom scene before the proposal because it's such an intimate moment between the two of them. They talk about their future together, about how happy they are and of course "I will love you until infinity". I've wanted a scene like that since I started shipping them in season 2. And watching that scene for the first time was one of the happiest moments in my life. And when I'm feeling down I just watch this scene again and everything gets better.

Hallway Scene- 6x06, “What The World Needs Now”

I LOVE THE ‘did I ever tell you that I love you’ MOMENT. The little kiss and the way Santana nudges her head in Brittany’s neck. I love the whole episode, it’s so powerful and as a lesbian I really felt seen and represented.

I love that Santana reminds Brittany of heaven. I love that Brittany loves Santana so unconditionally, that she would do anything to see her happy. Brittany knows that Santana is super happy right now, but she also knows that she really misses her abuela and that she’s sad she’s not coming to the wedding. Britt’s really doing her best for Santana, and that really shows how much she loves her.

I love that we see Santana’s vulnerable side in this episode and I love to see Brittany’s protective side (especially during and after Alfie). Although abuela said she wasn’t coming, I love how the episode ended because it really shows how much Santana has grown and how much love she has in her life right now.

Brittany Confronts Santana’s Abuela- 6x06, “What The World Needs Now”

After Santana sings “Alfie” to Abuela López as if her life depended on it in hopes that her Abuela would be a part of her life again, we have my favorite Brittana moment. At first, Abuela is confused and shocked to find out that she’s been tricked into seeing Santana sing. Brittany quickly confessed that she did trick her and informed Abuela, but also informed Abuela not only that she is Santana’s fiancée but that she loves her so much that she would do anything for her. Santana is quick to look at Abuela to gauge her reaction. Santana is hoping she has an opportunity to explain and to try to make her see how much she loves and needs Abuela in her life. Santana brings up how much Abuela means to her and how much being raised by this woman has made her a strong woman.

It’s likely that Abulea immigrated from another country. Like many children from immigrant families, they know the sacrifices their family took to her there. Santana likely heard from father (as i think Alma is her paternal grandmother) about the importance of doing good in school (and her education as she values it) and likely heard stories about the many jobs her grandma took. Likely those that are stereotypical like agricultural work, working in restaurants, or working as a cleaning lady. Jobs that were all she could get because of the limits society places on her (Abuela). ( Santana really admires this woman. She lets her know how much in the coming out scene. )

Santana embraces being Latina and holds no apology for being so, and admits that she is bigger and better than the limits society places on her. Santana wants to continue to be bigger and better. She admits that she can’t (or doesn’t want to) do that without Brittany and Abuela. Santana feels she simply exists without them. Perhaps also saying that they give her the strength she needs to be bigger and better. She is oh so hopeful that reminding her of all that will make her Abuela come along.

Unfortunately, it is not enough for Abuela. She reminds Santana that she loves her, but not enough to attend the stop following her beliefs. She adamantly says that girls marry boys and not other girls. It’s a sin in Abuela’s eyes, and she refuses to attend the wedding. What happens next in this scene makes me so proud of Santana. Before this moment, Santana was this scared little girl who hid behind this HBIC persona. In short, Santana struggled to love and accept herself.  She dated guys for status. She rejected Brittany for so long and told her she was using her and didn’t love her. She had beards and even wrote a song about a boy. She had confessed to Brittany that she was scared about all the talks and looks she would get from others. She hid her feelings and love for Brittany and pushed her away into another person's arms. While doing so, she was more angry and miserable than she had ever been. She had to witness the girl she loved more than anything be with someone else because she was too scared, and it hurt her.  It would take some more time for her to embrace herself fully. Even then, she didn’t have much choice. She was forced into accepting herself because she was outed to everyone in her school, in Lima, and in Ohio (and anyone who stumbled across that campaign ad online). Still, she did eventually get there. It was not easy for her at all, but she got there. She was happy. She surrounded herself with the love of her friends. She grew as a person. She became friendlier, was happier, and she allowed herself to love others (Brittany, Dani). Moving to New York was scary for her, but she did it anyway (with a little shove from Brittany (again, she thinks they helped to make her bigger and better). She helped her friends get a job, auditioned for Broadway, went to auditions, held various jobs, and attended school.

Santana remembered how Abuela taught her to be bigger and better than her school, her city, and her state would ever allow her to be when she was in New York. She was even bigger and better than the limits she had placed on herself, especially when she was in high school. She was determined to make something of herself. Sometimes even doing things that weren’t even her dream.

No matter the years that had passed, Brittany knew that despite Santana saying she was okay and choosing Brittany over everyone, including the woman that meant so much to her, Santana still missed her Abuela.  In this scene, unlike the last time when Santana bravely confessed to Abuela about her feelings and was gay by herself, Brittany was there alongside Santana. Brittany quickly stepped in to protect the woman she loved. Despite being upset that things aren’t going as they had hoped, she puts on a brave face and tells Abuela that it is okay if she doesn’t go. With a smile and some spunk, Brittany tells Abuela they don’t want her there. Santana is surprised that Brittany spoke up at first, too.

Brittany, who usually is kind and sweet, had her claws out. She used her genius mind to give statistical facts she’d read about to tell Abuela off. Usually, Santana would know not to speak to Abuela in such a manner. This is likely because Santana knows better. Her Abuela likely taught her to respect her elders or at least always to respect her. When Brittany finishes talking, Abuela expects Santana to apologize and stick up for her, but to Alma’s surprise, Santana doesn’t. Instead, Santana, the girl who was scared to tell her Abuela she was gay because she feared losing her, stood by Brittany, the woman she loved and who had told her Abuela to go on and love herself in a way Santana likely never has and would never dare to.

Santana doesn’t just defend Brittany or stands by her. Santana refers to her relationship with Brittany as love. She uses their love as an example of what love is. Santana, the girl who told Brittany she didn’t love her and that she was nothing more than just sex because Puck was in the slammer, the girl who refused to talk about feelings, and the girl who panicked when Rachel referred to their duet as sapphic romance, told her Abuela that what she and Brittany share is love. She uses the words “real love” to describe their relationship and what they had.

The choice of Santana words is significant. Likely, Abuela empathized the importance of love when it came to family (even if Santana experienced a lot of tough love from Abuela, her dad, and likely other family members like her mom.) all her life. Santana likely had seen a lot of it.

The choice of the word “real” may indicate just how deeply Santana was hurt when Abuela disowned her. We did see her cry in season 3 when Santana came out to her. Still, the choice of words makes me think that Santana felt deceived about family sticking together and loving each other no matter what (something Abuela mentions in this very same episode in the Queso Por Dos segment) because of how quickly things changed when she came out. All it took was a confession and a few seconds for that love to disappear.

It’s possible she viewed what she knew as love before, as fake love, or love that was not unconditional. Santana choosing to use “real love” to describe her relationship with Brittany is Santana saying, “We stick together and love each other unconditionally, unlike you and I or my own blood.”

Santana then says that Brittany is her family. Again, Santana reminds us that she chooses Brittany over anyone. Again, she’s touching on her previous statement that she and Brittany are an example of “real love” or (as Santana believes with all her heart) a family that sticks together and loves each other no matter what. This is a big deal for Santana.

She is coming full circle because, in the early seasons, Brittany didn’t always come first. She often came second or last to status, beards, prom queen, people’s opinions, etc.

Santana, a girl that misses Abuela, the person she wishes would love her again, has reached a point in her life where she loves herself and Brittany so much that she no longer needs her Abuela or her support, love, and approval. Santana knows she has a lot of that already. A lot, a lot.

The next part in this scene is parallel to Abuela and Santana’s previous scene some years prior from season 3 when Santana comes out to her. In season 3, Abuela told Santana to leave her house with no other word after Santana came out. Despite Santana’s pleas, Abuela had had the final say. In this scene, things are different. Instead of faltering and hiding, Santana puts her foot down and stands her ground. She keeps her head high and has the final say (something that I believe Abuela taught her when teaching her how to be bigger and better than what the world was going to give her permission to be), and Abuela had no choice but to walk away without another word.

To finish this scene, Santana leans into Brittany. Brittany comforts her (like I’m sure Brittany did the first time Santana came into Abuela the moment she could (which I believe was as soon as Santana got into her car where Britt was waiting (just in case Abuela wanted to meet her))). Santana knows she can count on Brittany. She is her family now. They stick together and love each other no matter what, even if it means being disappointed when things don’t go as planned.

Had Abuela and Santana never made up, I would have been completely okay with it because this scene shows a lot of growth in Santana.

It makes me feel so proud of Santana. She cared so much about others' approval. She had been so scared of her feelings for Brittany that she let herself be miserable and made others feel that way, too. Santana ended up being bigger and better than the limits she and society places on her. In doing so, she learned to accept and love herself, Brittany, and their family. Proudly so. While she wanted Abuela in her life, she decided to let Abuela go and instead surround herself with her new family, one that had plenty of “true love.” A lot, a lot.

That is freaking beautiful, and I absolutely love it.

Pre-Wedding Scene- 6x08

“My favourite scene to film was the wedding with me and Naya. It’s just a beautiful memory that I am so thankful I have during this time. It happened at the same time as I was getting married, and it just felt like a double wedding, if you will, because that was the title of the episode. After too much thinking, I’ve decided that my favorite Brittana scene is the pre wedding when they’re getting ready and Britt freaks out because Santana sees her before the wedding, thinking it’s a bad luck thing. And then Santana says to her that rules don’t apply to them and that they make their own luck. After that they kiss in the most perfect way. It’s my favorite because by saying that to Brittany, Santana made it clear that no matter what traditions say or people believe, everyone can choose how to be happy.

My favourite Brittana scene would have to be just the whole wedding episode if i’m being honest aha (i love all the Brittana scenes lol its soo hard to choose haha) because it shows that love is love and that anyone can get married if you love one another doesn’t have to be man and women, it can be women and women or even man and man! It’s so ridiculously hard to pick my favourite Brittana scene, when they all mean so much. Each one means something different for them in terms of their story.  Though they may lack screen time compared to other couples on the show, their scenes are filled with so many firsts. First time Santana admits her feelings, first time they mention their officially dating, first kiss, first I love you in a relationship when they're both happy...so they’re each special for different reasons. Even the break up has Santana admit for the first time that she had feelings for Brittany way back in Sophomore year (S1). Something that was implied but never verbalised before that point.

It's hard to pin it down to just one. I love 2x15 for the obvious reasons of getting to see Santana admit what was already clear to see. That she loved Brittany. Seeing her finally admit that was just really poignant for me. 

Landslide and Songbird hold such special places in my heart. The bravery. The love. Everything. I felt it all.

Heart was the fluff we so sorely craved for 3 seasons, and they finally we got it in the best way, and we got our first on screen kiss (3 times over).

5x12/5x13 had me feeling euphoric because finally after a season of absolute crap they finally got back together. The kiss was amazing, and we got to see Brittany lay it all on the line for Santana and make it clear who her top choice always was deep down.

6x03 was like a treasure trove of pure joy. The softest bed scene ever which I love for, my fav duet from them and ofc the proposal. Seeing Santana so boldly (I felt so proud of her in this moment) declare her love for Brittany in front of everyone (something she once thought she'd never be able to do), and for Brittany to be able to see that after their rocky start of "I'm not making out with you because I'm in love with you and want to sing about making lady babies", was everything! The call backs to Landslide were just ugh, and it really showed how far they had come. Santana’s speech and how nervous she is, plus Britt’s tears and the way she snatches the ring, lives in my head rent free.

6x06 is also like, incredible, and one of my fav ever Brittana episodes. Just the whole damn episode and how domesticated they are, Santana’s bravery, Brittany’s protectiveness, all the soft af dialogue that looks like it’s been plucked straight from a fanfic. The “did I ever tell you that I love you?” “tell me again” scene is one of my all time favourite scenes from them ever, and I can’t with how utterly adorable and playful and in love they are. Essentially, my love for the ship holds no bounds so there are too many “fave scenes” to count. Truthfully, I could write an in-depth analysis about every single one one of their scenes and how it touched me in some way, but I think if I had to pick just one I'd go with 6x08 the pre-wedding scene.

It's their last major "two-shot" scene and I honestly think it captures everything. Not only is it just contextually sweet the way Santana can't wait any longer to see Brittany and the words that she says, and the way Brittany is nervously freaking out, it ties up a lot of their story. Santana says with confidence "you love me, and I love you" after what seems like a lifetime of self-doubt, finally she knows Brittany loves her and no longer has to question that. This is the same girl who begged Brittany to say she loved her back as a scared closeted teenager, and now she's standing in front of her on their wedding day knowing that Brittany loves her without even needing to hear it. But regardless we do get an "I love you so much" from Brittany, unprovoked by Santana, which again is a callback to that heartbreaking 2x15 scene. It was all Santana ever wanted to hear back then, now she gets to hear it so freely on their wedding day. Their wedding day guys!? Nothing can ever top that for me, for them to have that ending to such a imperfectly perfect story, after all the erasure, the angst, the break-up, seeing them with other people, watching Brittany go off to MIT and thinking yep...this ship is done because Heather's never coming back now. 

The way Santana manages to calm Brittany and make her see clearly, is everything, and it really shows that yin/yang dynamic that I love so much about them.

Being someone who felt like I was living vicariously through them and seeing them get the ending of all endings and get married which is such a rarity (or certainly was at the time) for WLW ships was EVERYTHING. There's also the kiss (my fav kiss of there's) and the fact that moments later Abuela comes in and finally makes amends with Santana. It was the perfect, happy, full circle ending to a rollercoaster of a story, and nothing will ever get more satisfying than that.

Welcome back to our final review of the season! We are all sad that Antares won't be back next week, but boy, was his route exciting, especially these last three episodes!

#1 - Favorite line in set

aliboo: "I--Captain Antares Fairchild of the Empire--am your opponent. Surrender now, or die." For the sheer epicness of it!!

aqua: Antares stops short. The thick smoke refracts the glow of his beam saber, haloing him in a corona of red. I loved the imagery of Antares, wielding his saber, surrounded by red smoke.

violet: "Uptight, a little villainous, but wicked cultured."

#2 - Favorite scene/moment

aliboo: Fav scene is where Antares comes to MCs aid when the assassin finds her at the hotel and he comes flying in through the damn window!!! I love a good battle scene but especially when they take the opportunity to snark at each other whilst fighting. And MC catches their reflection and admires their power couple aesthetic! NOT THE TIME haha!

aqua: My favorite was Antares helping bandage MC, leading up to the almost kiss. I had been discussing with friends when we thought the cg scene would appear, and thought they might make that the season cliffhanger. So I was completely shocked that this scene came as early as it did. And of course it immediately cut to "To Be Continued" - thankfully, I had some tickets saved up!

violet: Where she was hurt and he immediately wanted to look and make sure she was ok, then he tsked about her covering it up the way she did and then THE MOMENT where they were really close and for the first time we see the idea of kissing enter the arena.

#3 - Did you buy hearts? Which scene(s)? Worth it?

aliboo: I bought all the scenes and of course they are all worth it. My favourite was the one in episode 12 which is part of the aforementioned fight scene with the assassin! Love it.

aqua: I bought them all, as I have done the past 3 weeks. I liked the one in Ep 11 the best where the discuss the "almost kiss". One of the best parts of this route is their banter, and that was showcased here.

violet: I got ALL OF THEM. They are all so worth it. I really liked the action scene, which says a lot as I don't usually buy those but this was really well written.

#4 - Standout character

aliboo: Antares and his little shit behaviours once again. Being the one to instigate the almost kiss with all that hip and shoulder touching as he moved her into position, followed by "It's clear to me now that this was just another attempt to seduce me". Ha. And "You can't possibly stay here. The door's been damaged." Yeah, no shit! But most of all, for throwing himself THROUGH THE WINDOW to come to MCs assistance. Badass.

aqua: Antares. From helping take care of MC's wound and giving her access to his Empire database, to appearing out of nowhere to save her from the assassin, he is continuing to prove just how much he does care for MC. I won't mention his final act of kindness... for spoilers.

violet: MC. She faced a lot of difficult moments very well.

#5 - Thoughts on the CG?

aliboo: Another great one. THE WAY THEY LOOK AT EACH OTHER! I'm looking forward to seeing more in the future without the helmet, but for S1 CGs they're perfect.

aqua: Best one of the season! The artwork has improved so much from his original route; I'm so happy he's getting all these amazing CGs (and mini cgs - those have been amazing as well). It's also nice to see a CG that fits so perfectly to the scene *cough*Piama*cough*

violet: I loved it. It is my favorite of the season. The tension in the CG is palpable. The expression on their faces, the placement of his hand, the way her jacket is off her shoulder.

#6 - Fave screenshot

aliboo: I love this screenshot firstly because of the look they're giving each other, but also because of the juxtaposition between the romance of him leaning in, and MCs observation that his helmet is, indeed, terrible.

aqua: For the first time this season, he is truly defending her. Not just sending one of his men to watch over her, but he, himself, coming to her aid, ready to kill someone to save her.

#7 - Secondary character shining moment.

aliboo: MC for being an absolute trooper as always. It doesn't matter what kind of awful situation she finds herself in, she's always trying to plan her next move. Something that hasn't gone unnoticed by our Empire captain - he's impressed.

aqua: Officer Gorlt, for providing MC on some insight as to how Antares' soldiers see him - someone who expects the best, not only in them but himself. And he is a fair man, someone worthy of their respect, who they would die for. MC begins to see a different side of Antares, likely making her fall even more for him.

violet: The helmet containing all the smolder in his blue eyes and drawing MC's ire because of it.

#8 - Thought on the villain.

aliboo: The assassin was just another pawn for the Union. We're learning more about their corrupted ways every week and I can't wait to see what's coming to them in S2!

aqua: We knew the Union was bad, but we are just scratching the surface of exactly how bad the Union truly is.

violet: I see why Atlas hates the Union so much. What a bunch of lowlifes.

#9 - Most OMG scene?

aliboo: The scene where Antares is administering first aid and suddenly, omg they are MUCH closer than they thought and an ALMOST kiss! I do love a good patch up scene so this was a very cool place to sneak this in.

aqua: Antares saving the day by showing up in a spray of glittering glass, confronting the assassin and defending MC.

violet: When he suggests she work with him. I went...AHHHHH perfect!!

#10 - Any predictions for next season?

aliboo: Can I please claim 1 prediction from last week in that Antares would hire MC. I mean, it was very likely going to happen but my ego needs some assurance here, thanks. For next season, we're going to find out what the mystery behind the wrecked Union battleship is and declare war on the Union. And there'll be some kissing too. Hopefully.

aqua: Yes, @aliboo, of course you can have credit LOL. Antares and MC's relationship will take a new dynamic, as they will be working together. I hope we get to see more of his crew (like Corvus) as we discover more of the Union's sinister secrets. MC will get frustrated one day and rip that terrible helmet off.

violet: Antares and MC will find the downed Union ship and we find out what information was on it, they dodge a lot of close calls before they do so, they grow closer, he takes his flipping helmet off sometimes, and we definitely get a kiss

Hey! So, I’ve been working on this for a while. I’ve read so many good Hyde/Jackie stories, and I feel like it’s a waste not to share them.

I tried to separate everything in categories, but some fics fit in more than one category and honestly it was just a mess. So I've separated them the best way that I could. I’m going to post the categories separately, and after I’m done I’ll make a masterpost with links to each of the categorized posts, as suggested by @springsteenicious and @those70scomics (thank you both for the help!).

Even though this is only one category, it’s still a long post, as I’ve said before, I’ve read many fanfics. I don’t know if I should edit this and add more stories as they’re out (for instance, I have a post season 8 story that I’m planning on posting soon) or if I should just leave things this way. Please let me know if you think I left out a good story or if you have any suggestions.

Okay so I haven’t actually CHECKED yet, but I know there aren’t any popular ones- guys, why did nobody make any animatics with songs from Newsies? Like for the first part, with the war for L’manbergian Independence? The entire musical is about revolution, and it even ends with the main character making a compromise with his enemy instead of outright winning. Literally perfect. Almost any song could fit. And I thought all the theater kids joined the Dream SMP fandom? Like, will all the Hamilton/Heathers animatics everyone was like ‘wow the theater kids and the minecraft kids teamed up on this one’ but... we all somehow missed Newsies? Listen-

Okay, so these don’t all fit and they don’t all fit in order, but here’s how I think some of them could fit-

Santa Fe (prologue): Wilbur as Jack and Tommy as Crutchie, basically, with Wilbur, he’s singing about how they could make a place away from the Dream SMP (instead of moving) where they could do what they want (the lyrics would match the formation very well. maybe the dad that is referenced to die/have left could be Sally?) 

Carrying the Banner: a bit of a strech, but it could basically be about the grind of the guys trying to start a new country and being in rough conditions

The Bottom Line: Dream as Pulitzer, obviously, Hannah (the woman advisor) and that man advisor as George and Sapnap. Singing about how to deal with L’manberg (?) (a bit of a strech)

I can’t imagine ‘That’s Rich’ fitting anywhere lmao

nor ‘I never lanned on you/ don’t come a-knocking’, unless you want to do some sort of AU? Maybe with Wilbur and Niki? idk.

The World Will Know: Oh boy. This song is high-spirited, and all about starting a revolution, I think it will be PERFECT. Wilbur as Jack, Tommy or Tubbo as Crutchie. Davey... Idk, someone who has to be skeptical at first. could be Tommy. but the entire energy of the song matches so incredibly well, and the premise lines up perfectly. if you’ve heard it i’m sure you get it. 

I don’t think there is a very canonical way to do Watch What Happens, I guess it could be like an AU, with Niki

Seize the Day, maybe... maybe after they get betrayed and their spirits should be lifted by either Tommy or Tubbo as Davey, I’d say Tommy. It also could just be sometime in the middle of the fight, before the betrayal.

King of New York- after Tommy sacrifices the discs, and everyone is celebrating because they think that they have their own special place now. 

Watch what Happens (Reprise): Well, hmm. This could be much later, after Wilbur has gone crazy and maybe he has given up on L’manberg, or Tommy gave up on L’manberg, and they come and give him a reason to keep fighting. (more of a strech)

The Bottom Line (Reprise): okay, hear this one out- this is much later, and it’s Schlatt as Pulitzer, and Tubbo as Jack. Schlatt has captured Tubbo and isn’t letting him go to Will & Tommy. 

Brooklyn’s here- It could be when Techno first joins to be a part of the revolution, with Techno as the entire of Brooklyn, here to help Pogtopia rebel.

So he ends up getting his first ever hamster pet on his 12 birthday 

He somehow convinced his parents to get two hamsters instead of one. Bcs 12 year old hotshot thinks that his hamster pet would get lonely when he’s at school (he’s a big softie aight?) 

And well he got one male and a female which ends up with them having many babies along the line

Not to mention how amazing hotshot take cares of them

So basically they thrive 

He literally built them a huge cage out of an old book rack to give them maximum space to play around 

He absolutely refused to put them in those small tacky plastic cages. Not only did he found out it was unhealthy for them but also it just looks horrible 

So he named the male Carrots and the female Bubs 

And all their babies were kept and well taken cared of by him 

Ofc he couldn’t keep the whole family so he ends up giving them away to neighboring kids or anyone he knows that wants to adopt a hamster 

Let’s be real here, he teared up a little bit when he needs to give the hamsters away

Hotshot even volunteers to built them their hamster cages properly since those hamsters used to be his anyways. He’d want them all to be taken cared of properly, even if it takes him building big cages out of old furniture over and over again 

The owners end up paying him. He refused at first but end up taking it in and joked about how it’s his mini high school business of building hamster cages 

While being cared by him, the hamster offsprings were also given proper names

Hotshot just loves naming his pets aight? Leave him alone 

Some of his personal favs were Thumper, Bluebell, Trixie, Candy, Carrots Jr., Strawberry, Coco (as in coconut), Garlic, Scout, and Cola

So college came around and he was pretty much scared for his hamsters 

Who’s gonna take care of them before Hotshot finds a proper place to live? He still wants to keep his hamsters

So his parents were like ‘ayy don’t worry kiddo. We got this!’ 

Listen ik some ppl headcanon hotshot with horrible family/parents but i want him to be happy aight? He has nice parents here:) 

And he was like ‘!!!!’ and thrived all while college 

In his junior year, he found a place he wants to permanently live in. Moving out of his dorm to come live with his boyfriend ike (do yall even know me if you didn’t thought i’d mention my comfort ship ikeshot? akjhfkjahf) 

And so he gives away some of the hamsters and ends up keeping three Tater tot, French fry, and mashed potato (potatoes yummy) 

Ike was pretty nervous about the hamsters since he’s also bringing his cat with him

But it turns out the hamsters are good friends with the cat 

They like to sleep together under the sun and be all soft and friendly 

Hotshot continues to give them the full care they need because he loves his hamsters so much 

Hotshot always likes to cradle them in his big arms 

His hamsters also likes to sleep in his giant arms too. It’s warm and fits them perfectly

Or sometimes he’d be sitting on the couch watching tv and his hamsters would casually chill on his stomach or something. Sniffing about and end up sleeping there 

Upon moving to his own place, his hamsters huge cage is in the master bedroom just next to the window

So before bed he always tucks them in goodnight. Giving them head kisses, pats, and making sure they’re comfortable in their cage before Hotshot cuddles up in bed with Ike and his cat 

Moral of the story : Hotshot would die for his hamsters and i would die for this headcanon :)

“Whatever You Want” Namjoon x You

“Okay.” You release a deep breath and turn to face Namjoon. “How do I look?”      He sits up a little, pretending to scrutinize your appearance before the grin breaks across his face. “Perfect,” he says. Then, suddenly frowning, he scoots to the edge of the bed and adds, “Except...come here, babe.”      “What?” you ask nervously, reaching up to smooth your hair. “What is it?” You move towards him when he doesn’t answer.       “Just...” He waits until you’re within his reach, then grabs you by the waist and pulls you into his lap. Smiling at your startled laughter, he says, “Just this...” before leaning in to kiss you softly.       When he finally releases you, you give him a look. “Namjoon, I love you---but if you just messed up my hair, I’m going to have to kill you.”     He laughs. “Fair enough. All right, up you get.” He stands up after you. “Let’s make sure you’re still perfect as ever.”      You roll your eyes at his comment, but when he runs his gaze over you, purposefully slow, you can’t stop your heart from beating a little louder. “Well?”      “As I said,” he grins, bending down to place a soft, gentle kiss on your cheek: “Absolutely perfect.”      Ignoring the blush that creeps over your face, you give him a sincere smile. “Thanks. Ugh, I’m so nervous.”     He reaches out and takes your hand, guiding you out of the bedroom and down the hall. “Don’t think about that,” he says. “Just soak it all in. You’ve worked hard for this, my love; you deserve all the good things. Did you eat lunch?”      You shake your head.      “Do you want me to make you something?”      You shake your head again, feeling sick.       “Okay, okay.” He squeezes your hand. “Just relax.” Releasing your hand, he grabs your long, black peacoat and helps you into it, careful not to disturb your perfectly planned outfit. “They’re going to love you.”      “As much as you love me?” you ask playfully.      He fakes outraged shock. “Never.” Grabbing the lapels of your coat, he pulls you to him slowly. “I just love you too much,” he murmurs, before brushing another kiss against your lips.       This time when he releases you, you’re ready to go. “Okay.” You exhale again, turning towards the door. “Wish me luck.”      “You don’t need it. You’ve got this, babe. It’s all yours, whatever you want.”      You smile. “See you tonight.”

The first thing you notice when you enter the office is the impossibly immaculate marble flooring.       The receptionist, a woman about your age, looks up and smiles brightly. “Good afternoon. May I help you?”     “Y-yes.” You clear your throat and try again. “Yes, thank you.” Handing her the paperwork (and making sure to keep your hand from shaking) you add, “I have an appointment?”      She studies the paperwork for just a moment, and you see her eyes widen at something. “Oh you---you’re here for the new position.”      “Yes.” It still filled you with giddy excitement: this was literally your dream job, a perfect position to reward all the work you had put in, the menial internships and starter jobs that had led you to this point. You almost don’t notice it when her face falls a little.       “Of course. One moment, please.” She opens her mouth like she wants to say something else before changing her mind. Grabbing the phone instead, she dials a few numbers then says into the receiver: “Yes, your afternoon appointment is here.” She listens, then hangs up. “If you wait just a moment, someone will take you back to the offices.”      You nod eagerly. “Thank you so much.”       She merely smiles, and an unsteady silence falls over you.       “The floors in this building are just gorgeous,” you say after a minute, trying to dispel the awkwardness and distract yourself from your own nerves at the same time.     “Oh, yes,” she agrees. “They’re the very best, top of the line. We only have the best here.”      You smile, even though her response doesn’t really invite much conversation. “How long have you worked here?”      “Six years.”      “Six--?” You cut yourself off. “Oh. That’s...that’s great. You must really like it here.” To yourself, you think: 6 years as an entry-level receptionist??       She doesn’t really answer.       The awkward silence falls again.       Finally, a door behind you opens and another woman (this one several years older than you) steps into the waiting area. “Hello,” she says with a practiced smile. “I’ll take you back now to meet with the boss.”      “Great.” You turn to the receptionist, but find her already engrossed in another matter. Uncomfortably, you take a quiet deep breath and cross to where the other woman stands. “Thank you so much.”      She just nods pleasantly, ushering you through the door.       The first thing you notice when you enter the work floor is that you are surrounded by men. Every single desk, every cubicle, is occupied by a man. The second thing you notice is that they all look the same; a sea of the same skin color, haircut, and expression.      Somewhere deep down in your stomach, a tiny pit appears. To distract yourself, you catch the attention of your guide. “How long have you worked here?” you ask, trying to keep a pleasant smile on your face.      “12 years.”     “Oh, wow. That’s great.”     She just nods. “I saw your resume,” she adds. “I graduated from the same university.”      “Really??” Some of the pit recedes. “What was your major?”     “Same as yours,” she says with a little tip of her head.      The pit whimpers. “Oh, that’s...that’s really cool,” you say falteringly.      She nods again. “I’m certain it’s changed since I was there,” she adds with a laugh. “It has been quite a while.”      “I---” The words die on your tongue as you distinctly hear someone call out “Damn, that’s some nice fresh meat” from behind you. Turning sharply, you’re unable to tell which cubicle the comment came from. You look back at your guide and are shocked to see her completely unaffected. Maybe she didn’t hear it... “They are constantly renovating it,” you agree belatedly.     Finally, the two of you reach the boss’ office. Without another word, the other woman reaches up and knocks three times on the door.      “Enter!” a voice calls from inside.     She pulls the door open and ushers you inside the office, where you find yet another man sitting at a desk. “Your 3:15, sir,” she says respectfully.      For the second time that day, a pair of eyes wander up and down your frame, but this time you just feel sick. “Ah,” the boss says with a smile. “Lovely. Come on in, doll, have a seat.”      You clear your throat and correct him with your name, trying to remain as polite and calm as you can.       His smile never wavers, but he ignores your correction and turns away from you to regard the other woman. “So, is the coffee-maker located in a different city, or...?”      She blushes deep crimson and nods her head awkwardly. “It’s coming, sir. Very sorry about that.”      “Don’t be sorry, just bring the coffee,” he says a little dismissively. “And better add a few muffins, don’t you think, doll?”      “Yes, sir. Of course.”      He waves her away. “Go on.”      The pit has swallowed your entire stomach and is now screaming.       “So.....” The boss fixes his gaze on you, and you resist the urge to squirm uncomfortably. “I assume you’re familiar with our company?”      “Yes.” You try to ignore the pit, but it’s getting more difficult by the second. “Of course. I was thrilled, actually, to be offered a position here. It fits exactly what I’m looking for, and I think I can be a great asset to the team.”      He huffs a soft laugh. “Yes,” he agrees, “A great asset, indeed.”      “I’m sorry??”      Waving it away, he goes on, “Now doll---”      “My name isn’t doll.”      The faux-cheeriness falls away quickly. “Don’t get your panties in a twist,” he says derisively. “It’s just a term of endearment. Think of it like a compliment.”      Your mouth actually falls open at this one. “A--a compliment?”      “Yep. See, doll, we have a system here, an organic sort of environment where people go with the flow.” His eyes harden. “If you manage to remember your place within that environment, you’ll be just fine.”      You straighten in your chair. “It is highly unprofessional for you to address me in that way,” you say stiffly. “I believe I’ve already made my opinion on that clear.” You brace yourself for his angry retort.       Instead, he laughs in your face. Literally leans forward in his chair and guffaws at you. “Your opinion?? You think I’m hiring you for your opinion? Please.”      Your cheeks are hot. “Then what, exactly, did you hire me for?”      “Gotta fill a quota,” he shrugs, leaning back in his chair and leering at you again. “And that old hag out there clearly couldn’t cut it even as a waitress, so it’s time for her to go. One out, one in. By the way, do you know how to make espresso?”      “No,” you answer tightly, feeling the rage build inside you.      “Better learn, then, dollface,” he says with a wink. “Your looks are only 50% of why you’re here. Well, then.” He sits forward, shoving a stack of looseleaf papers in your direction. “Sign on the dotted line, look up a few coffee how-to videos tonight, and come ready to smile tomorrow morning, all right?” He literally pushes the contract into your hands. When you don’t respond, he finally seems to notice your seething anger. The pleasant facade fades. “Problem, dollface?” he asks intently, watching you. Before you can speak, he heaves a dramatic sigh and goes on, “Think carefully before you answer, sweet cheeks. You know how prestigious our company is. Don’t miss out on an opportunity just because of a little girlish pride.” He rolls a pen at you. “I’ll even let you use my expensive pen. Got this from the president himself. Go on, sign your name.”      You’re so angry you’re shaking, but you reach out and take the pen; you notice that it’s extremely high quality, carefully engraved with fancy lettering. It must have cost a lot. “My name,” you ask, your voice so quiet he has to lean forward to hear, “Or dollface?”      He guffaws again, but it’s cut short in surprise when you rocket to your feet.       “You’re disgusting,” you say, rage clipping your words. A million other insults are racing through your mind, but in the end you choose no words: instead, you drop the stack of papers back on the desk and spin on your heel, heading for the door. Yanking it open, you turn back: “To hell with you and your company,” you say, then hold his pen aloft---and promptly drop it in the trash.       Before he can speak, the other woman reappears, a mug of coffee and plate of muffins in hand. She takes one look at how your hands are shaking with fury, and instead of looking shocked or alarmed, she looks resigned. It only makes you angrier.       So in one smooth motion, you take the mug of coffee from her and carefully, deliberately, pour it into the trash.      “Hey! You crazy bitch---that’s my pen!!”       His outcry soothes some of your rage, and for the first time, you’re able to smile. Turning to the woman, you nod your head at the plate of food and say, “I’d throw those muffins in there, too, if I were you.”      Without another word, you leave the office, head held high all the way down to your car. As soon as you shut and lock the doors, you’re able to fully feel what the pit of fury has been covering: heartbreak.

As soon as you open the door to the apartment, you can smell it: pizza, from your favorite restaurant. No matter how good it smells, it can’t break through your layers of fury.     “Hail the conquering hero!” Namjoon sings out as he pops into view; in one hand he has a bouquet of daisies (your favorite) and in the other he’s holding a box of your favorite brand of expensive chocolates. “Welcome home, babe!”     You’re speechless. A quick scan of the room reveals the rest of his plans: the table is set with 2 boxes of your favorite pizza, the TV is on and your guys’ favorite video game is loaded, the controllers waiting on the empty couch. He had clearly planned a celebration of your “accomplishment.”       You can’t help it: the angry tears clog your throat, burning your eyes and spilling down your cheeks.       “Babe...” He looks shocked. Quickly ridding himself of the flowers and the chocolates, he goes to you. Taking your face in his hands, he says, “What happened??”      “I’m not going to work there,” you say hotly, tears still streaming down your face.       Fear is starting to mix with his concern. “What happened? Are you okay? Did---”      “I’m okay,” you manage. Carefully moving out of his grasp, you step all the way into the apartment, shrugging out of your coat and dropping it on the floor. “But that company---they’re just---”      Sensing how absolutely wild you feel, he changes tactics: grabbing your hand, he pulls you to the couch and sits down with you, turning towards you. “Tell me.”     So you do. You tell him everything, from the uncomfortable atmosphere and whispered catcall to the words ‘dollface’ and ‘sweet cheeks.’ You tell him about the way the man had spoken to you, his open admission about your position, the suggestive way he had looked at you. “How can a company like that still exist??? And those women, they--” you choke on a sob. “The one woman was exactly like me. She graduated with the same degree from the same university, and he turned her into a coffee-girl. I can’t believe I ever wanted to work for them! I hope their building catches fire, I hope both of those ladies quit, I hope he gets hit by a bus, I---” Your anger can’t even find words anymore. “It was disgusting. I should have--should have thrown that coffee in his face or-or something.” You suddenly realize that your boyfriend hasn’t said a word the entire time. Angrily wiping at your eyes, you turn to look at him; and find him absolutely livid. “...Joon?”      “I’m going to end him,” he growls. “I’m going to burn that entire place to the ground.”      “Baby---”      He gets to his feet suddenly. “I’ll make sure he loses everything, make sure the entire country knows the truth about that place.” He starts pacing, his mind racing in a thousand different directions. “The lawsuit will be easy---I’ll make sure both of those other women are compensated extremely well, I’ll make sure that he has to apologize to both of them---no, grovel at their feet and apologize!”       You sit back on the couch, watching him rant and rave; it makes you feel better, actually, to not sit alone in this fury.       “And you....I’m so sorry, babe, that you had to go through something like that.” His hands clench into fists. “I’m going to kill him for what he said to you, the way he treated you. I should’ve gone there with you, I would’ve knocked that smug smile off his face immediately.” He goes on, detailing all the ways he can bring the company down, the ways he’ll make them pay for what they’ve done. He goes on and on until the anger burns out.      And by the end of it, your anger’s been doused, too. Now all you can feel is the heartache. My dream job...what I’ve worked so hard for.. The tears bubble up again, this time in devastation instead of fury.      Noticing the change, he exhales heavily and returns to your side. Gathering you in his lap, he rocks you back and forth, pressing constant kisses to your temple and cheeks. “Oh my love,” he says heavily, “I’m so, so sorry.”      “I wanted it, Joon,” you admit tearfully. “I wanted that job so bad. Why did it have to be like this?”     “I know. It’s not fair.” He holds you close. “Oh, love, I wish I could have spared you from this. I wish I could fix it and make it all go away.”     You turn your face towards him, burying it in his neck, and sob.       The breakdown only lasts a few minutes, but the entire time he hugs you tight, reminding you that you weren’t alone. When you finally take a breath, he kisses your forehead.       “It’s going to be okay. An even better job will come. I know everything sucks right now, but it’s going to get better. Something amazing is coming your way, love, I know it is.” He kisses your temple and murmurs against your hair, “You deserve something better than that place anyway. You’re going to do amazing things. Something better will come.”      You take another deep breath and sit up, rubbing at your eyes. “I hope so,” you say thickly.       “It will.”      Managing a smile, you lean forward and kiss him briefly. “Thanks, Joonie,” you say softly, feeling much lighter. Your eyes dart to the discarded flowers and chocolates. “I feel bad I ruined the celebration...”      He shakes his head, squeezing you tight. “You didn’t ruin anything.” A faint smile crosses his lips. “How about....instead of pizza and video games, we do.....pizza and a bubblebath??”      You laugh.      He smiles happily at the sound. “I’m serious. How does that sound, my love?”       “Hmm...pizza in the bath?” You pretend to think. “Amazing.”      “Perfect, right?”      “Almost.” You get to your feet and hold a hand out to him, waiting. “But perfect actually is pizza and you in the bath.”      He grins and takes your hand, getting to his feet quickly. “Like I said: whatever you want, baby.”

TTS Songs Ranked Worst to Best

Someone asked me to rank my fav and least fav TTS songs a while back, but I’ve since then relistened to the soundtrack and there’s a whole bunch of songs that just forgot about, so here’s a more accurate ranking now that the songs are more fresh in my mind

32 .  Life After Happily Ever After (Reprise)

This song is infuriating, because the finale is infuriating. Listening to this song just makes me angry all over again because it reminds me just how unsatisfying the ending to TTS was. I wanted to turn it off at several points. I barely can get through it despite it being so short. It doesn’t help that the soundtrack leaves all the dialogue in there and fails to actually end the song. It just cuts off before the final note.

31. Hook Foot’s Ballad

Does this even count as a song? Why is it here on the soundtrack but not the Hurt Incantation? Did Menken really waste his talent writing a joke and did the showrunners really waste money and limited resources on this?

30. Friendship Song

Bland, boring, and pointless. It was clearly written as a marketing stunt for the radio disney charts and not as anything to do with the plot of the series. They just throw it up on screen to fill out the running time and don't even let the whole song play through. It’s pitiful.

29. Waiting in the Wings (Reprise)

I didn’t think much of the original song one way or the other, but the reprise is soooo dumb. The plot twist it introduces winds up ruining the whole show and sabotaging both Cassandra’s and Rapunzel’s characters. It’s not even a nice sounding song on it’s own. The kid’s voice is irritating (who I’m sure is doing her best, but really little kids shouldn’t be made to sing professionally as a general rule) and the melody just as bland as the first time it was played. The only reason to like this song is if you’r a mega fan of Cassandra’s or her VA, which I am not. (Note: this is not a criticism of Eden Espinosa, I just don’t happen to follow any of the VAs in this show)      

28. Through It All

I like the instrumentals in this song, and that’s about it. Everything about this song is wrong. It doesn’t fit the story, it’s a misuse of the cast and songwriters, it’s a waste of valuable screen time, the melody is dull, and the dang soundtrack had to throw in that lame dialogue about ‘greatest threat ever’ at the beginning. If you want a pump up song in your story then you got to earn it. You can’t just tell us things are bad, you got to show it. A joyful horseback ride and everyone sitting in a bar safe and sound isn’t threatening or depressing enough to warrant a cheering up session. Plus the song itself doesn’t add anything to the overall story.

27.  The Girl Who Has Everything

Sometimes I think the writers were willing trying to sabotage themselves. It’s as if they were determined to make the only two main female characters in the show unlikeable bitches in season three.   Don’t believe me? The creator Chris has said this song only exists to highlight how much easier Rapunzel has things than Cass and went onto say that Rapunzel was in the wrong during their conflict because ‘she held Cassandra back’. (Oh yeah she totally ‘held back’ the grown woman who left on her own accord, returned on her own accord, and then assaulted and tried to murder a bunch of people for no reason of her own accord.) But this song does succeed in furthering season’s three narrative that Rapunzel is a spoiled selfish brat. Shame the story fails to address this setup and never has Rapunzel learn to be a better person. Rather the narrative bends over backward to tell us how special Rapunzel is without any sense of self awareness and this song falls into that same trap; making it both irritating and pointless.

26. Listen Up

Yeah, I talked about this on my salt marathon, but I just don't like this song very much. The melody is fine but the lyrics are a real miss in my mind. It doesn’t help matters that the song is indeed pointless in the grand scheme of things.

25.  Livin’ the Dream

This is much on the same level as Listen Up as it features the same problems. It doesn’t add to the narrative and the lyrics kind of let it down. I placed it higher just because I like the melody a little more.

24.  More of Me

This song is a lot like the Friendship Song in that it was created to be an end credit song for the pop charts and you’d be forgiven in forgetting it even exists. However, it at least got to actually play all the way through. I think this song was a real missed opportunity. I honestly believe that it should have been the opening theme song of the show instead of Wind in My Hair. It’s more built to serve such a purpose and it’s a waste of resources not to actually use it. Alternatively, I would have accepted it being reworked into the actual series as a character song. Especially since we’re missing a song in season three due to budget cuts.  

23. Wind In My Hair

Speaking of theme songs, I think I would like Wind In My Hair a lot better if i didn’t have to listen to it every episode. On its own it actually has a lot of things going for it; a nice melody, interesting instrumentals, good singing, ect. Unfortunately it’s just over exposed, and none of those elements lend themselves naturally to an intro song for a tv show. In fact the theme song feels really out of place and is edited oddly to fit the shorter intro. 

22. Wind In My Hair (Reprise)  

Honestly the theme song is mostly comprised of this reprise, but it has the opening instrumentals from the OG song frankensteined onto it. This means that the version that plays before every episode is on fullblast all the time to keep the energy up, but that’s not how the song is suppose to go.  The actual reprise that plays in the pilot builds to a crescendo, starting soft and melancolony and getting louder and more hopeful and determined. It sounds a lot better in full because of that.  It’s still too overexposed though. Both these songs would probably be higher on the list of not for the theme song version. 

21. With You by My Side

This song is fine. It’s nothing special, but it’s not bad either. What knocks it down the list is the fact that Lance isn’t in it, despite Lance being right there.  Like don't bother hiring a famous Broadway singer if you’re not going to have him sing!  But that speaks more to the poor writing of season two than anything else. This song also doesn’t really add anything to the narrative as, contrary to what the writers intended, it doesn’t actually enhance the emotional impact of Cassandra’s betrayal later in the episode. The song itself is just tacked on and doesn’t take the opportunity to lay down any foreshadowing for that plot point.  

20. Next Stop Anywhere

Another perfectly serviable song. It’s not bad but nothing outstanding. It gets the job done. It’s also really ho-hum and the soundtrack keeps all the unneeded dialogue, which is a pet peeve of mine. 

19. Waiting In the Wings

Despite it’s hype, I never thought much of Waiting in the Wings. It’s got nice instrumentals and Eden Espinosa gives it her all in the singing department. The problem is it’s too generic. It’s a bare bones basic ass ‘I want song’. Cassandra's movations are weak and unsupported by the narrative, the melody is boring, and it honestly doesn’t add anything to her story. I mean it should, it’s her character solo, but because she’s written so poorly the song just winds up undermining the character in the end.   All I’m saying is that, this is not the song from season two that I would have nominated for the Emmys. But it’s still Alan Menken, it’s still nicely performed, and given the rest of the competition for that year, it did deserve to win. 

18. If I Could Take That Moment Back 

This song is also pretty generic, but it’s less boring than I See the Light, (yeah, I said it, I See the Light is boring) so that’s a win in my book. Ergo this holds the title of the only New Dream duet that I enjoy. But there’s better stuff on this list. 

17. Next Stop Anywhere (Reprise)

Well no, I take that back. The reprise of Next Stop Anywhere is also technically a New Dream duet. It’s still not anything amazing, but it works for what it is. Plus, Adria’s opening dialogue in the soundtrack version doesn’t bother me quite as much as some of the other dialogues choices that were kept in.  

16. Stronger Than Ever Before 

I really enjoyed this song in the moment. It’s catchy and fun, and it finally has Lance doing something rather than ignoring his existence. However it is borderline unnecessary in terms of story placement, and I’m slightly mad at it now that I know that we could have gotten a Rapunzel and Varian duet but it was scrapped for this instead.   

15. Crossing the Line

Keeping with the theme of ‘songs I have conflicting emotions about’, we have Crossing the Line.  This song is confused. It starts and stops, the melody isn’t clear, the orchestration is playing tug of war with the singers for dominance, and it’s basically Alan Menken and the show’s creators ripping off Frozen. (I guess he’s kicking himself for leaving that particular project?)   But it’s interesting. I never heard anything quite like it. It’s memorable even if it doesn’t fully work. It’s got these interesting bits and pieces to it that just never quite comes together as a whole. Some of the lyrics are some of the best Glenn Slater has ever wrote and is far better than the story actually surrounding the song. Yet there’s other lines that are total cringe. Sometimes the song is bold and catchy and gets you all hyped up, and then other times its limp and staggering and feels so awkward to listen to.  Yet it’s not boring or generic and so I have to place it higher than the rest of the songs that’s come before. (Also, there’s some amazing orchestral covers out there that really pulls together the various parts really well, just fyi) 

14.  Nothing Left to Lose

I really don't like this song.  I’ve been one of its biggest critics ever since it was leaked by the marketing team earlier this year.  And yet... I can’t in good conscience place any lower on this list.  All of the problems I have with it are the exact same problems I have with Crossing the Line. It’s confused, the various pieces don't line up, the instrumentals are competing with the vocals, the song’s progression is weird with it’s constant key changes, some of the lyrics are good while others are absolute shit, ect and so forth.  It also actively works against the story it's trying to tell. The song wants you to sympathize with Cassandra, but her lines are as shallow as a puddle and makes her look like a sociopath. Especially when she’s physically attacking Varian through out for no reason. Also neither character learns anything from the exchange and it fails to impact the story.  By all accounts this is a bad song.  But I’m Varian trash.  There I said it. You happy?  Varian’s parts in the songs are fine, good even, and the song is anything but bland. I would rather listen to a mess then be bored to tears by a competent yet standard four chord pop song. 

13. I’d Give Anything

This song is nice to listen to. Story wise it absolutely sucks and shouldn’t have been in the finale at all. But it sounds pleasant.  This is one of those songs that could pop up randomly on the radio and I would just think it it a nice sad break up song. I can’t say that about some of the other misplaced songs in the show. This one however, you can very much, absolutely divorce this song from the narrative and it would be fine.  Now that’s not good writing, and it’s very much a waste of limited resources, but I’m rating the music here first and story second. 

12. Buddy Song

The Buddy Song also absolutely did not need to exist but it also sounds nice. Plus, it makes use of Lance so I’m a little more lenient towards it.   I can’t however place it higher since it really is just Alan Menken ripping off Alan Menken. Like, I would not be at all surprised to find out that this was originally a deleted song for Aladdin or something.  

11. Bigger Than That

What can I say, Lance just gets good songs. When the show bothers to give them to him.  Unfortunately, it’s not the best placed. It kind of interrupts the more important drama of Be Very Afraid, and probably should have been saved for a later episode. Especially since it hinges on a plot point that is contradictory to Lance’s character.    We should have gotten a Varian and Rapunzel duet here and given Lance his own episode in the second half of season three. This song could have easily been refitted into being a bonding moment for him and the girls. That would also have filled out the season’s original songs to the usual eight instead of only  seven.

10. Life After Happily Ever After

Now we’re getting to the good stuff. The top ten. The best of the best.  This song makes the cut for three reasons.  1. It lyrically and musically interesting 2. It does the job of furthering the story and the characters  and 3. Eugene’s part is so damn good.  Like this song could have easily fell down into the ranks of ‘fine but generic’ if it wasn’t for the bridge with Eugene. That puts it over the top and to my mind makes it better than anything from the OG film. (well almost anything, Mother Knows Best is still great)    This is the barometer by which I measure all of the music in the series. Is it better or worse than Life After Happily Ever After? Because this is the level that I equate good musicals with.  What keeps on the tenth spot and not higher is the dialogue that still left on the soundtrack and the lack of a Cassandra introduction. That and also the rest of the songs are just flat better. 

9. Hurt Incantation 

Hurt, Decay, Reverse, whatever you want to call it, this was such a cool fucking concept. One that was utterly wasted by the show.  I place this so high because it just sounds awesome! It looks good too, and it offered up so many possibilities from a story perspective.  What lets it down is the lack of follow up for it and it’s too short. There’s needed to be another verse. It also should have been on the actual soundtrack instead of  Hook Foot’s Ballad.  (The Heal Incantation also was sung in What the Hair, but I’m not counting it since it was written for the film) 

8.  The Girl Who Has Everything (Reprise)

I hate the initial song and the set up that it took to get here, but I love this reprise. It’s perfect. This is what the story needed more of. Rapunzel taking her life into her hands, and her proposing to Eugene would have been the perfect capstone for her arc.  In fact I’m angry we didn’t actually get that. There’s absolutely no reason why Rapunzel couldn’t have done so and we could have had her and Eugene engaged during the second half of season three. How much better would have it been if Cassandra threatened their wedding plans and that’s why they couldn’t go through with it until after the series ended? So much more tension that way. 

7. I Got This

This is a really good song that actually futhers the characters and the narrative. Moreover it’s refreshing to see the heroine not be perfect and to fail sometimes due to her own inadequacies. It’s just a shame that the series didn’t follow through with this set up, but I appreciate the attempt all the same.   

6.  Set Yourself Free

This is the only song in the series that’s an actual satisfying pay off for anything. Music wise it’s nothing too special, but in terms of context it just works. We were sorely deprived of such resolutions and songs with actual meaning in the show. 

5. View From Up Here

This song is too good for the episode it actually appears in. We needed something like this back in season one to introduce Cassandra with. It also sadly doesn’t fit with the wider narrative after season three. However I shall still appreciate it as a ‘what might have been’ type song. 

4.  Let Me Make You Proud 

The only reason why this song isn’t higher is just overexposure and I’ve no one to blame but myself for that. I’ve listened to this song way too many times. As such it tends to alternate between this, View from Up Here, and the next song on the list. But make no mistake it is glorious. Fantastic instrumentals, set up, and of course amazing vocals. 

3.  Everything I Ever Thought I Knew

Yes, I know this plot point didn’t lead anywhere, but it works for this song at least. Also Eugene’s VA is a really underrated singer. He sounds nice and he emotes really well.  Though I’ll be honest, this jumped up to third place because it was fresh in my mind after listening to the soundtrack before making this list. I’ve always liked the song and I do rate it highly, but it can change places with Let Me Make You Proud and View from Up Here at anytime depending on my mood. 

2.  Let Me Make You Proud (Reprise)

This song is heartbreaking!  Story wise it probably shouldn’t exist because it gives away the twist too soon, but who cares, it’s awesome!  Varian’s arc is the most compelling in the show and the only thing that saves TTS from falling into mediocre obscurity; and it’s songs like this that help make the arc stand out even more than it already does. 

1. Ready As I’ll Ever Be

I said it before and I’ll say it again; Ready As I’ll Ever Be is the greatest thing Alan Menken has ever written in his entire career!  If you know anything about the multiple award winning songwriter then you know that is no faint praise and I do not dole it out lightly.  This song is the reason why this show even has a fanbase. People are still getting into the series because of this song. And no matter how many times you listen to it just rocks!   It’s complex, layered, moody, and with a fantastic beat and energy. The performances are wonderful and the instrumentation glorious. It belongs in the hollows of Disney’s greatest hits and not regulated to a spin-off tv show that failed to make its money back.  I weep for the lost potential that this song and this show had. It hurts to know that so many people will never see this flash of brilliance that has come out of the House of Mouse, will never know the wonderfulness that is Varian.  Ah, ‘c'est la vie’, I suppose. Tangled the Series got what it deserved, but it's crew did not. While I can not in all honesty recommend the series in full; I do sincerely urge any Disney fan to check out the songs at the very least. Especially this one.  And that’s it. There’s my official ranking of all the songs, and I hope those of you read my Tangled reviews appreciate the hours it took into making this.
