What is cPanel and How to Use it - A Complete Guide
What is cPanel?
cPanel is a Linux-based web hosting control panel that provides a graphical user interface (GUI) for managing your website and server. It is one of the most popular control panels in the world, and is used by millions of people to manage their websites
c, short for control panel, is a web-based graphical interface designed to simplify the management and administration of websites and server functions.
It is widely used by website owners, web hosting providers, and system administrators to easily manage various aspects of their websites and servers.
cPanel allows users to perform a variety of tasks, including:
Managing files and folders
Creating and managing email accounts
Installing and managing applications such as WordPress and Drupal
Configuring security settings
Managing DNS settings
Creating and managing backups
Here is a step-by-step guide on how to use cPanel:
Access cPanel:
To use cPanel, you first need to access it. Usually, you can access cPanel by typing "yourdomain.com/cpanel" into your web browser. Alternatively, you can ask your web hosting provider for the login URL and credentials.
2. Enter your credentials:
Once you access the cPanel login page, enter your username and password provided by your hosting provider.
3. Navigate the cPanel interface:
After logging in, you will be redirected to the cPanel control panel. The interface is divided into different sections, including Files, Databases, Domains, Email, Metrics, Security, Software, and Advanced. Each section provides a range of tools and options.
4. Manage files:
In the "Files" section, you can upload, modify, and manage your website's files and folders. You can also use the File Manager tool to perform tasks like creating new directories, uploading files, editing code files, and managing permissions.
5. Configure domains:
Under the "Domains" section, you can manage domain-related settings. You can add new domain names, redirect domains, create subdomains, manage DNS records, and set up domain aliases.
6. Set up email accounts:
In the "Email" section, you can create and manage email accounts associated with your domain. You can add email accounts, set up forwarders, configure autoresponders, manage spam filters, and access webmail.
7. Configure databases:
For managing databases, you can use the "Databases" section. Here, you can create new databases, manage existing ones, set up database users, and use tools like phpMyAdmin for database administration.
8. Install software and scripts:
The "Software" section offers tools to install various applications and scripts. You can use the Softaculous Apps Installer to quickly install popular CMS platforms like WordPress, Joomla, or Drupal. This section also includes options to update software versions, perform backups, and manage SSL certificates.

9. Monitor website metrics:
Under the "Metrics" section, you can monitor your website's performance by accessing statistics like visitors, bandwidth usage, error logs, and resource usage. This helps you analyze your website's traffic and make informed decisions regarding optimization.
10. Configure security settings:
The "Security" section includes tools to enhance the security of your website. You can manage SSL certificates, set up password-protected directories, enable hotlink protection, and manage IP blocklists.
11. Advanced features:
The "Advanced" section provides additional features for experienced users and developers. Here, you can access tools like Cron jobs for scheduling tasks, manage PHP settings, access server logs, or customize error pages.

Some common tasks that you can perform using cPanel:
Create an email account:
Click on the "Email Accounts" icon and then click on the "Create" button. Enter the desired email address and password, and then click on the "Create Account" button.
Install WordPress:
Click on the "Softaculous Apps Installer" icon and then search for "WordPress". Click on the "Install" button and follow the on-screen instructions.
Manage your files:
Click on the "File Manager" icon. You can then browse through your files and folders, and upload, download, or delete files as needed.
Create a database:
Click on the "MySQL Databases" icon and then click on the "Create Database" button. Enter the desired database name and username, and then click on the "Create Database" button.
In summary, cPanel is a comprehensive and user-friendly control panel that provides a range of tools and features to effectively manage your website and server.
Its intuitive interface makes it easy to perform various tasks, from managing files and databases to configuring email accounts and monitoring website performance.

My favorite example of this is zlib. Just like xz-utils, it's a compression library. Arguably it's the compression library, because zlib is absolutely everywhere – including in OpenSSH. New versions of their source code are distributed from zlib.net, and the server running zlib.net is hosted by a small company in Michigan called a2hosting.com where a managed VPS starts at $26.95/month. This hosting company is particularly fond of using CPanel and exim, both of which are enabled for zlib.net. That means the supply chain integrity for practically everything relies on the integrity of a2hosting.com and the absence of any remote exploits in CPanel or exim. The track record here isn't exactly encouraging, and I haven't even got to Pure-FTPD, Apache httpd, or Dovecot (and this is just the stuff that's directly on zlib.net, we're not even considering how a2hosting.com itself might be attacked). Find a good vulnerability in any one of these projects, or a way to backdoor them for that matter, and you have a good shot at backdooring the zlib source code distribution.

Hi Pia.
I want to ask— do you backup your wips? How do you do it?
I know there are things like Cloud and Dropbox but those are practically at the mercy of big corporations and with ai scraping now being the norm it feels risky saving work with online backup.
Do you use a USB instead?
Unfortunately nothing is risk-free these days.
I once saved a story to three different USBs, all different brands, and they all corrupted. Not all at the same time, but they all eventually lost the data. This was over a period of ten years, but of course some people have been relying on USBs etc. for this long now. Same with CDs burnt with data (something we used to do before USBs were cheap).
In fact a new study shows that over half of all external hard drives and USBs over a certain age (I think around 5 years) are already corrupted and often not being checked enough to check if they're still containing/keeping the data necessary. (To say nothing of entire batches of like Seagate and other brands being notorious for literally just...losing data and corrupting at any point in time - which is an issue for actual hard drives within the computer as well).
USBs and external HDs aren't necessarily safer.
In general it's a good idea to back up in three places, though this still isn't enough to guarantee safety. Those three places should be: a) hard copy (i.e. USB or external hard-drive), b) cloud copy (i.e. Dropbox etc.), c) on the machine itself (if it's a desktop). You can sometimes do like, a + a + c or b + b + a etc.
It still doesn't guarantee preservation of data! I think that's the hardest thing about preserving data and back-ups overall.
I have an extra bonus 'back up' in that 99.5% of all my writing is already public. And that a lot of that writing has additionally been snapshotted into the Wayback Machine. If all my methods somehow corrupted or failed, I could literally copy/paste my stories from AO3 back into Word documents (in fact I've actually done this before because I frequently go back in and edit AO3 chapters for typos etc. but don't mirror those changes in the original documents, so sometimes if I want to update a story, I'll copy/paste the AO3 chapter and override the original document).
Anyway, I use Dropbox Business (cloud), hard external copy (though not as often as I should), desktop version, and then also the AO3 version. Dropbox Business has additional data recovery protections that general Dropbox accounts don't.
We are always at the mercy of big corporations, anon. Big corporations make USBs. They make faulty external hard-drives that we sometimes mistakenly trust. Like no, they're not scraping for AI the same way, but I no longer believe - unfortunately - that this is truly preventable. Short of going a grassroots Linux direction, which...I can't, lol.
(This is a reminder to all writers: Back-up your writing! The beginning of the year is a good time to remember to do it, if you're not doing it every 3 months).
(And also, check all your USB/external hard drives! And make sure they're not your only source for that content, because you would not believe how much they degrade over time.)
If I ever needed a 5th option, I host my own domain and have done so through the same company for over 10 years with very high fidelity, and I would just dump it all into a database there so I could pull it back if necessary. That's not ideal (it's probably the easiest way I could be hacked because I check into the cpanel the least often), but it's doable.
But yeah I've been Dropbox Business for a long time. I don't like everything about them, but I trust them a lot more than Microsoft OneDrive (which I refuse to use) and many other cloud networks.
As for AI scraping, since 99.5% of my stuff is on AO3, it's already been scraped, and it's delusional of me to think it hasn't been. I have already had the majority of my art scraped into Midjourney, so sadly I've reached a level of disgusted acceptance that the gormless unethical billionaires of the world will just do what they want. If it has an internet connection to it, it's probably been scraped or will be scraped and putting something on a USB isn't going to stop that, because it needs to come off a USB if I want to work on an ongoing story.
#asks and answers#pia on writing#back up your data!#back up your writing!#honestly my first experience of losing data was#that when i was about 11 years old i typed a science fiction novel#and was printing it out as i went and had it backed up onto floppy disc at the same time#my mum threw out all 100+ pages (size 10 courier font)#and then the floppy discs died#i lost everything#this was before the internet was really a thing#and desktop computers were largely used for writing letters and faxes and games#and printing shit out#and sometimes faxing#nothing's safe#we only have degrees of safety#but safety is only ever an illusion we pull around ourselves like a blanket#until we realise that the bedbugs came too

I made a blog!!!
Check out my bloooooooog
(Sorry, there's not much there right now...)
I realized that while I was on cohost, the format and the posting culture (css nerd stuff) kind of encouraged me to put more time and effort into making posts in a way that I hadn't in a long time. I hadn't realized how much I missed having control over the minutiae of content I posted. So even though I resolved to crosspost some of the stuff I liked to tumblr, it's missing some of the personality that I put into it, I think, and having a blog where I can do some of those shenanigans if I want to will be fun.
Also, for your viewing pleasure, you may subscribe to the RSS feeds (there's one for each category in addition to the aggregate feed, so if you only want to hear about art or only games, you can do that as well).
Also also, if you own your own webspace, and are thinking about adding a blog, I wrote a little bit about the plugin i used under the cut. ↓↓↓
I was sifting through the blogging plugins available through my hosting service and settled on HTMLy, firstly because it's pretty lightweight--it only takes up 8mb of server space which is crazy small (compare to Wordpress' 68mb). It has a tag system, categories, and a built in search (not just a google search that crawls through your blog), and aside from how long it took me to hack the themes apart into something resembling the rest of my site, it was really easy to setup. I really like it.
I only added it to my blog, but I'm honestly kind of considering rebuilding the rest of my site using HTMLy as well.
Similar to cohost, you can use markdown and html in your posts. There's a built-in image uploader so you don't have to deal with any image hosting shenanigans. I added a bunch of special elements to my blog's css that i'd defined in the style sheet for my regular website (and even some common ones I used in my chosts), so I can insert them for a cohesive feel.
It also supports multiple users--with its own login page separate from your cpanel or however you usually access your site--which is a feature I'll never use, but I think it's really neat. :)
Aaaanyways, I need to overhaul the rest of my site since I haven't updated it meaningfully in uh... six years... but hopefully, I'll get around to making it more of a reflection of my current interests... this year... maybe....
Also, maaaaaaaan, i really wanna get back into doing little code doodles in Processing. I used to have a lot of fun with them. Maybe I'll port some of my old ones to the latest version so I can put them on the web...

Our comprehensive approach to uptime also includes regular maintenance and updates. While maintenance is essential for keeping our systems running smoothly, we schedule these tasks during off-peak hours to minimise any potential impact on your website. Is cPanel on Its Deathbed? A Tale of Technology, Profits, and a Slow-Moving Train Wreck
Ah, cPanel. The go-to control panel for many web hosting services since the dawn of, well, web hosting. Once the epitome of innovation, it’s now akin to a grizzled war veteran, limping along with a cane and wearing an “I Survived Y2K” t-shirt. So what went wrong? Let’s dive into this slow-moving technological telenovela, rife with corporate greed, security loopholes, and a legacy that may be hanging by a thread.
Chapter 1: A Brief, Glorious History (Or How cPanel Shot to Stardom)
Once upon a time, cPanel was the bee’s knees. Launched in 1996, this software was, for a while, the pinnacle of web management systems. It promised simplicity, reliability, and functionality. Oh, the golden years!
Chapter 2: The Tech Stack Tortoise
In the fast-paced world of technology, being stagnant is synonymous with being extinct. While newer tech stacks are integrating AI, machine learning, and all sorts of jazzy things, cPanel seems to be stuck in a time warp. Why? Because the tech stack is more outdated than a pair of bell-bottom trousers. No Docker, no Kubernetes, and don’t even get me started on the lack of robust API support.
Chapter 3: “The Corpulent Corporate”
In 2018, Oakley Capital, a private equity firm, acquired cPanel. For many, this was the beginning of the end. Pricing structures were jumbled, turning into a monetisation extravaganza. It’s like turning your grandma’s humble pie shop into a mass production line for rubbery, soulless pies. They’ve squeezed every ounce of profit from it, often at the expense of the end-users and smaller hosting companies.
Chapter 4: Security—or the Lack Thereof
Ah, the elephant in the room. cPanel has had its fair share of vulnerabilities. Whether it’s SQL injection flaws, privilege escalation, or simple, plain-text passwords (yes, you heard right), cPanel often appears in the headlines for all the wrong reasons. It’s like that dodgy uncle at family reunions who always manages to spill wine on the carpet; you know he’s going to mess up, yet somehow he’s always invited.
Chapter 5: The (Dis)loyal Subjects—The Hosting Companies
Remember those hosting companies that once swore by cPanel? Well, let’s just say some of them have been seen flirting with competitors at the bar. Newer, shinier control panels are coming to market, offering modern tech stacks and, gasp, lower prices! It’s like watching cPanel’s loyal subjects slowly turn their backs, one by one.
Chapter 6: The Alternatives—Not Just a Rebellion, but a Revolution
Plesk, Webmin, DirectAdmin, oh my! New players are rising, offering updated tech stacks, more customizable APIs, and—wait for it—better security protocols. They’re the Han Solos to cPanel’s Jabba the Hutt: faster, sleeker, and without the constant drooling.
Conclusion: The Twilight Years or a Second Wind?
The debate rages on. Is cPanel merely an ageing actor waiting for its swan song, or can it adapt and evolve, perhaps surprising us all? Either way, the story of cPanel serves as a cautionary tale: adapt or die. And for heaven’s sake, update your tech stack before it becomes a relic in a technology museum, right between floppy disks and dial-up modems.
This outline only scratches the surface, but it’s a start. If cPanel wants to avoid becoming the Betamax of web management systems, it better start evolving—stat. Cheers!

Kamatera Review – The Best Scalable Cloud Host Yet?
New Post has been published on https://thedigitalinsider.com/kamatera-review-the-best-scalable-cloud-host-yet/
Kamatera Review – The Best Scalable Cloud Host Yet?
This Kamatera review will help you decide whether the web host is the best option for you!
Being able to scale your resource demand effortlessly as your website grows… paying only for the resources you use… no-single-point-of-failure security guarantee… what’s not to love about cloud hosting?
As a web hosting consultant I have helped hundreds of my clients choose the best web hosts to migrate their websites to – and many times, they were also upgrading from a shared or VPS plan to cloud hosting. Kamatera has always been high up in the list of options when we were considering cloud hosts, so I decided to check out their service and take you along.
In the rest of this Kamatera review, I’ll discuss all the web host’s plans, features you can expect to enjoy, how much you should budget, real-time performance figures, their dedication to customer support, and other important factors you should look out for.
Kamatera Review
Founded in 1995, Kamatera is no new kid on the block. They offer generic cloud hosting and every other cloud hosting hybrid you can think of – from managed and unmanaged cloud servers to virtual private cloud (VPC) services and cloud VPS hosting. They also offer reseller hosting for mini hosting companies and web professionals who want to cross-sell this with their core services.
I get it. The differences between their virtual private cloud hosting and cloud VPS hosting can be subtle but don’t worry we’ll discuss them in detail.
Kamatera’s cloud hosting plans are incredibly affordable too. I also like that on all their core plans, you can choose between ready-made packages or customize your plan yourself by setting the number of CPUs, memory (RAM), traffic, storage, and bandwidth. Kamatera also allows you to choose where you want your servers to be located.
Kamatera has been reviewed by 200 users on TrustPilot and users give them a rather decent 3.2 stars. Their positive reviews are from users praising how easy it to set up a server, transparent pricing, and uncommon level of support.
Kamatera Ratings – My Personal Take
It’s been a tradition for me to always give my personal ratings of each host I recommend – and Kamatera will be no different. there’s really no guarantee you can trust the reviews that many web hosts publish on their websites. Plus many businesses doctor reviews on popular platforms like TrustPilot.
The best approach to know exactly how great a web host’s services are? A non-biased overall rating of the web host through expert eyes.
Considering Kamatera’s key features and their real-life performance, here’s how I’d rate the web host on a scale of 1-5. Note that these scores are not static and only reflect their offerings at the time of this writing:
Quality My rating Why I gave this score Features and specs 5.0 Exceptional scalability, a cloud firewall, load balancing tech, and their specialized disaster recovery service makes Kamatera one of the most reliable cloud hosts on the market. They get a resounding 5.0 stars here. Pricing 4.9 Starting at $4/month for their cloud servers, Kamatera’s services are also undoubtedly some of the cheapest on the market. Many VPS plans from other hosting providers even cost more. Performance stats 4.7 My personal tests of Kamatera’s servers recorded a response time of 270 ms. That’s really decent and up there, even though a good number of hosts still perform better so they get a 4.7 in this category. Ease of use 4.0 One of the chief complaints users filed about Kamatera was how it logged you out repeatedly with an IP error message and I experienced this first-hand. Asides that, Kamatera makes it easy to manage your website backend using cPanel, Plesk, Vesta, and CyberPanel. I give them a 4.0 here Customer support guarantee 4.5 Several call lines for their different support portals, email addresses, ticketing, and a knowledgebase are how Kamatera caters to its users’ inquiries. However, I’d have loved to see a live chat option for real-time support. I give them a 4.5 here.
Kamatera Hosting Plans and Prices – 2024
Kamatera offers cloud servers, managed cloud services, virtual private cloud hosting, cloud VPS hosting, and reseller hosting. One small caveat you need to know about Kamatera’s plans is they don’t have a money back guarantee and even if you cancel your plans within the first month, they still charge you the full month’s fee.
You can pay for any Kamatera hosting plan you’ve decided on using your credit card or via Paypal.
Kamatera cloud servers
Kamatera ‘Simple’ cloud hosting plans come in three tiers and allow you to choose your server location and server specs – Windows, Linux, or SSD-optimized.
These plans start at $4/month and you get between 1-2 vCPUs, 1-2 GB RAM of memory, 20-30 GB SSD storage, and 5TB of data transfer on all plans. I love just how much server flexibility you get with Kamatera’s hosting.
Custom cloud servers on Kamatera
What’s more? Kamatera also allows you to configure your hosting plan – you can choose the number of processors you want, where you want your data centers to be located, the amount of memory you need, amount of storage, your OS, amount of traffic, and number of IPs. You also get to decide whether you want to pay for their services per month or per hour. Amazing!
Who this is for:
Kamatera’s cloud servers are for businesses that need to be able to add or remove hosting resources when necessary. With these plans, you can manage your spending exceptionally and don’t have to pay for infrastructure you may not use. Monthly payment drives home your control over what you spend even further.
Kamatera’s managed cloud hosting
Pro Managed
Features – OS monitoring, firewall & networking management, DNS setup, server resources performance metrics, apps installation and configuration, 24/7 NOC support, dedicated account manager on plans with 10+ servers.
Price – $50/month
Premium Managed
Features – Everything in Pro Managed plus custom and application monitoring, database high availability setup, application/service updates, quicker customer agent response times, and dedicated account managers on all plans.
Price – $150/month
Who this is for:
Kamatera’s managed cloud hosting plans take the hassle of managing the technical aspect of your cloud servers out of your hands. From monitoring and setup, to technical support, reporting, and application management, the host does these critical processes for you. What’s more? Kamatera also dedicates a particular human support agent to you who’ll be in charge of your account and you can count on to respond to any inquiries you might have.

Kamatera Features
Here’s an overview of some of Kamatera’s main features:
SSD storage
Custom hosting plans
Superior load balancing technology
High-performance block storage
Cloud firewall
Transparent pricing
Kamatera, as a cloud-only host, provides premium features that emphasize superior performance and security with its packages.
But some of its more unique features are the load balancers that instantly distribute workloads across a network of servers, ensuring high speeds and quick response times.
Kamatera’s block storage technology emulates a virtual private disk for your cloud plans and ensures there’s no single point of failure. It also ensures extremely low latency (or very quick response times and data transfer) further improving the performance of your website.
Kamatera Performance Tests
Your web host’s servers are your website home and how they perform are exactly how your website will perform. Some important factors to consider when choosing a hosting provider like Kamatera are the server response speeds and uptime.
The web host’s server speed is a measure of how quickly their servers respond and send back your website data to a visitor. On the other hand, the uptime measures the availability of their servers – i.e how much of the time their servers are online to serve up your website’s content to visitors.
The quicker the server speeds are, the less time it will take for your website to load. And the higher the uptime, the more reliable your website will be and you won’t risk losing traffic just because your website was down.
To measure Kamatera’s speed and uptime, I tested a website hosted on their platform and these were the results I got:
Kamatera’s servers started sending the first byte of data back in 276 ms. Quite impressive, even though I still expected better as some high performers respond in sub 100ms.
For the uptime, the website I tested has been available 100% of the time over the last 30 days:
This confirms their 99.9% uptime guarantee!
Kamatera’s Customer Support
It’s easy for web hosts to promise heaven and earth but once many of them take your money, it’s cricket-y silence. Kamatera does well though in terms of customer support. You can reach out to their agents via:
Phone
Kamatera has phone lines for its sales and account managers, technical support, and billing departments.
Email
You can also reach out to Kamatera via email at [email protected], [email protected], and [email protected].
I tried reaching out to their technical support agents via email and got a response in a few hours – quite decent!
Support ticket
Create a support ticket to talk with an agent, fill in your details and phone, and write down your inquiry. Kamatera will reach out to you via email.
Knowledgebase
Simple and straight-to-the-point, Kamatera’s knowledgebase is just how I like it. The built-in search engine also makes it easy to find answers to questions around server setup and security.
Blog
And finally, Kamatera has an up-to-date blog with relevant posts on latest industry information for website and business owners.
Kamatera Security Features
If there’s one thing I like about Kamatera, it’s their security guarantee. First, is their native Cloud Firewall designed to protect your website from attacks while monitoring your servers in real time.
Kamatera’s Cloud Firewall allows you to set rules and filter data packets, exclusively authorizing the entry of certified and approved data packets to your servers. What’s more? The firewall can also function as a VPN giving you even more functionality!
Another core part of Kamatera’s security is the disaster recovery portal. Unforeseen events can impact your website severely. Kamatera’s disaster recovery provides backups, recovery, and failover systems to minimize service disruptions.
Your website’s database is archived at restore points for immediate recovery. And finally, Kamatera’s backup machines are automatically triggered in the event of a system failure to ensure your user experience is not affected.
Kamatera’s hosting plans also allow you to install a free Lets Encrypt SSL certificate, giving your website the padlock seal of trust in the eyes of search engines.
Kamatera User Friendliness – Ease of Use
How to register an account on Kamatera
Setting up an account on Kamatera is super easy. Simply select the plan you want and click on ‘Create server’. You’ll be redirected to the sign up page:
Fill in your email and choose a password you can remember easily – your password should contain at least one lowercase letter, one uppercase letter, a number, and should be at least 8 characters long. Click on ‘Create Free Account’
You’ll receive a confirmation link in your email. Click on it and your account should be ready to go!
How to create a server on Kamatera
To create a new server on Kamatera, from your account dashboard, navigate to “My Cloud” on the left and under the dropdown options, select “Create New Server”
Next, select your preferred data center location and then the operating system you want on the server.
Once that’s done, choose the number of CPUs and specify your server specs – RAM and SSD storage amount.
And finally, configure the fine print – backup, select whether you want a dedicated account manager, set a password, and select your billing schedule. Click on ‘Create server’ and it should be done in a few minutes.
Kamatera control panel
Kamatera doesn’t come with a custom control panel like some other high performing hosts – SiteGround, Hostinger, and A2Hosting – however, Kamatera gives you access to cPanel, Plesk, Vesta, and CyberPanel.
How to install WordPress on Kamatera
The swiftest way to deploy WordPress on Kamatera is via your control panel. Using cPanel as an example, we’ll use the Softaculous installer:
In your cPanel account, navigate to ‘Tools’ and click on ‘Softaculous Apps Installer’.
In the search engine, type in ‘WordPress’. Click ‘Install’ and then ‘Choose protocol’.
Next, choose the domain name you want WordPress installed on and configure the directory. If you’re not sure, just choose the default values and proceed.
Configure your ‘Site Name’ and ‘Site description’. Whatever you put here will be shown in the title bar of a website visitor’s browser.
Next, configure your ‘Admin Username’, ‘Admin password’, and ‘Admin Email’. These are the login details you will use to access your WordPress dashboard once it is installed.
Select the auto update boxes for WordPress, plugins, and themes.
Now configure where you want your website backups to be stored and check the ‘Automated backups’ so Softaculous makes backups of your website at specified intervals.
Review all the installation options and click ‘Install’. Voila!
Kamatera Server Footprint
If Kamatera had just one thing going for them, it’d be their continent-wide server footprint. Their servers are spread across dozens of data centers in Europe, the Americas, and Asia and several countries in between.
This guarantees exceptional website performance for businesses targeting audiences spread across the globe.
Conclusion – Should You Choose Kamatera?
Kamatera is a very decent dedicated cloud host and their performance and built-in features are no joke. I recommend Kamatera if you’re looking for affordable packages and have outgrown your shared/VPS plans.
Their block storage, load balancers, cloud firewall, and disaster recovery ensure your website performs exceptionally and is protected from bad actors.
My only fault with Kamatera would be their account creation process. Their IP address protocol system glitches often and may log you out for no reason at all.

We'll go over Linux hosting's advantages and why it's the greatest option for website hosting. The different types of Linux web hosting will also be covered, along with advice on how to pick the best Linux web hosting provider.
Linux hosting: what is it?
Linux hosting is a type of web hosting in which websites are hosted on the Linux operating system. Because it can handle a variety of online applications and is dependable, safe, and stable, it is a popular option for hosting. Linux hosting is the practice of running websites on Linux-powered servers. Various hosting choices may be available, including dedicated hosting, cloud hosting, VPS hosting, and shared hosting. Companies and developers frequently choose Linux hosting due to its adaptability, affordability, and capacity to run unique applications.
Features of Linux operating system for website hosting-
The reliability, security, and flexibility of the Linux operating system make it a popular choice for web developers and website owners. Here, we'll examine some of the main characteristics of Linux operating systems used in web hosting and the reasons why they're the best option.
Flexibility
The Linux operating system can run numerous programs, including content management systems (CMS), e-commerce platforms, and custom apps. This implies that any kind of website, including blogs, e-commerce sites, and custom applications, can be hosted on a Linux server.
Scalability
Scalability is another benefit of Linux hosting as your website expands and traffic increases, you may quickly upgrade your hosting plan to a higher level of resources, such as more CPU and memory. By doing this, you can ensure that your website can manage the extra traffic and continue functioning properly.
Open-Source and Free
Because Linux is an open-source operating system, hosting providers can offer Linux hosting plans at a cheaper cost than other forms of hosting because it is free to use. Furthermore, Linux servers are renowned for their efficiency, which enables them to manage numerous websites with fewer resources used, resulting in cheap web hosting cost.
Interface That's user-friendly
Numerous control panel options are also available with Linux hosting. You can easily manage your website and hosting account with a control panel, which is an intuitive user interface. Plesk and cPanel are popular control panel choices for Linux hosting. These panels offer many functions, such as creating email accounts, managing databases, and viewing website statistics.
Security Level
Another benefit of best Linux hosting is its high level of security. The operating system is routinely updated to address weaknesses and fend off attackers because security was a top priority during its construction. To further improve security, Linux servers can also be configured using a range of security features, including firewalls and intrusion detection systems.
Simple Structures
It is an extremely thin operating system. It consumes less storage space, has a smaller memory expansion, and has significantly fewer requirements than any other operating system. A Linux distribution usually has around the same amount of disc space and just 128MB of RAM.
Dependability
Numerous computer languages and frameworks, such as PHP, Python, Ruby, and others, are compatible with Linux. Because of this, it's a fantastic option for hosting websites created using these technologies.
Virtual Web Hosting
Multiple websites can be hosted on a single server using Linux hosting, which is another feature. We call this "virtual hosting." It enables you to host several websites, each with its own content and domain name, on a single server. For companies or individuals who wish to host several websites without having to buy several hosting services, this can be an affordable web hosting solution.
Perfect for Programmers
Almost all of the widely used programming languages, such as C/C++, Java, Python, Ruby, etc., are supported. It also offers a vast array of applications related to development. Most developers worldwide prefer the Linux terminal over the Windows command line. The package manager on a Linux system helps programmers learn how things are done. Additionally, it supports SSH and has capabilities like bash scripting that help with quick server management.
Linux Hosting Types-
Linux websites have access to cloud hosting, dedicated hosting, VPS hosting, shared hosting, and other hosting options.
Shared hosting:
The most straightforward and reasonably priced kind of Linux hosting is shared hosting. It entails running several websites on a single server and sharing the CPU, memory, and storage between the websites. A suitable choice for tiny websites with low to moderate traffic is shared hosting.
Virtual Private Server (VPS) hosting:
This kind of Linux hosting gives your website access to a virtualized environment. Having the same physical server entails hosting your website on a virtual server that is divided from other websites. While VPS hosting is still less expensive than dedicated hosting, it offers greater control and resources than shared hosting.
Dedicated hosting:
With dedicated hosting, you have exclusive use of a physical server for Linux hosting. This implies that you are the only user with access to all of the server's resources, and you can set it up to suit your requirements. The priciest kind of Linux hosting is dedicated hosting, which is also the most potent and offers the greatest control.
Cloud hosting:
This kind of Linux hosting includes putting your website on a cloud-based server network. This implies that your website is simultaneously hosted on several servers, offering a great degree of scalability and dependability. Although cloud hosting is more expensive than shared hosting, it is a versatile and affordable web hosting choice for websites that require a lot of resources or traffic.
The size, traffic, and resource requirements of your website will determine the kind of Linux hosting that is best for you. While VPS, dedicated, and cloud hosting are better suited for larger businesses with higher traffic and resource requirements, shared hosting is a reasonable choice for smaller websites with minimal traffic.
Advice on Selecting the Best web hosting provider-
To make sure you get the best service for your website, it's crucial to take into account a few vital considerations when selecting an affordable Linux web hosting provider. The following advice will help you select the best Linux web hosting provider:
Find a trustworthy web hosting provider
Go for a web hosting provider that has a solid track record in the sector. Choose a hosting provider that has been in operation for some time and has a solid reputation for offering dependable hosting services. To locate a service that other people have found reliable, you can read reviews and get referrals from friends and co-worker's.
Think about the cost
To get the greatest value, compare the costs of several hosting providers. But remember that the least expensive choice isn't necessarily the best. Aim to strike a balance between the cost and the hosting provider's services and reputation.
Establish your hosting requirements
It's critical to ascertain your hosting requirements prior to beginning your search for a hosting provider. Take into account the size of your website, the volume of visitors you anticipate, and the kinds of apps you plan to use. This will enable you to focus your search and select a best web hosting provider that best suits your requirements.
Good customer service provider
Pick an affordable web hosting provider that offers best customer service. Choose a service provider who provides live chat, email, and phone support in addition to round-the-clock assistance. This will guarantee that assistance will be available to you at all times.
Selecting the Linux web hosting provider is a crucial choice that will significantly affect the functionality and dependability of your website. You may choose the best hosting provider for your website by taking into account your needs, searching for a reliable provider, examining the features, and seeking for a provider that offers excellent customer service.
Think of the type of hosting
Select the hosting plan that works best for your website. As was previously noted, Linux hosting comes in a variety of forms, including dedicated, cloud, shared, and VPS hosting. Select a best and an affordable hosting provider that provides the type of hosting that best meets your requirements.
Examine the advantages offered by the hosting
Verify if the hosting provider has the services you require. The quantity of storage and bandwidth, the number of domains and subdomains, the kind of control panel, and the presence of one-click installs for programmes like WordPress are a few crucial aspects to take into account.
Conclusion-
For those searching for a dependable and reasonably priced hosting solution, Linux hosting is an excellent choice. It has a tonne of features. Linux hosting is one of the most popular hosting options available thanks to all these advantages. As a lot of people say these days, developers, engineers and programmers promote Linux as one of the most powerful operating systems available.

Cheap VPS hosting providers
The majority of small businesses would begin their websites with a shared web hosting service. On the other hand, there will come a moment when your website expands beyond the capabilities of a shared hosting setup. If you do not require the more expensive enterprise-scale dedicated hosting, you should think about purchasing a cheap VPS hosting service instead. Despite the fact that the physical server is shared, virtual private server hosting makes use of virtualization technology to create the illusion of having your very own dedicated server. A virtual private server (VPS) provides the benefits of dedicated servers in cheap price associated with dedicated hosting. For the purpose of assisting, you in selecting the most suitable solution and web hosting service provider for your website, we will first explore what virtual private server (VPS) hosting is, how it operates, and who the most reliable web hosting companies are.
What is VPS hosting?
Customers are typically required to begin the process of constructing a website or web application by establishing a database, configuring a web server, and adding their code. The administration of physical server hardware can be a difficult and costly job. In order to effectively address this issue, web hosting service providers are responsible for managing the hardware that makes up the server and enabling users to make use of these resources. When a user subscribes to virtual private server hosting, they are provided with a virtual machine that is equipped with dedicated resources and is ready for them to deploy and configure their website or application. Customers who use virtual private server hosting are able to concentrate on their websites or applications without having to waste time and effort dealing with the physical servers that are hosting their code due to this arrangement. The performance of their websites is guaranteed to be secure, dependable, and constant when using best VPS hosting service.
How does VPS hosting works?
The operating system of the server is layered with a virtual layer that is installed by your best web hosting service provider upon the server. In order to create unique virtual machines, or VMs, this virtual layer partitions the server into independent compartments that are dedicated to each user. The operating system, software, and other necessary tools for hosting your website can be installed within each compartment according to your preferences. A control panel such as cPanel, Linux, and MySQL are some examples. Through the utilisation of these virtual computers, you will be ensured access to resources. The speed of your server is not dependent on the number of resources that are utilised by other websites that are hosted on the same server, in contrast to shared hosting.
Through the use of virtualization, an affordable VPS hosting service provider provides you with the opportunity to experience the feeling of having your very own dedicated environment. Your website is housed in a private container that is also isolated, and it has resources that are specifically designated for you. This indicates that your website is housed within a protected container of server resources, including memory, disc space, CPU cores, and other resources. Not a single one of it is required to be shared with other people.
What does virtual private server hosting consist of?
Best VPS hosting services can be broken down into three primary categories.
Managed virtual private servers
When you use fully managed virtual private server hosting, the amount of time, effort, and technical expertise you need to devote to maintaining your server is reduced. To allow you to focus entirely on expanding your company, the managed virtual private server hosting provider will handle all of the server-related chores, such as installing software, performing maintenance, and updating the core software. Managed virtual private server hosting provides a hands-free method of server management.
Semi-managed VPS services
The semi-managed virtual private server hosting service is a compromise between the managed and unmanaged hosting options. In addition to providing the same fundamentals as unmanaged hosting, the hosting firm also offers support and installation of core software.
Unmanaged VPS hosting
The web hosting service provider responsible for all of the server responsibilities and maintenance work when the company uses unmanaged hosting or self-managed hosting. The only thing that an affordable hosting service provider is responsible for managing is the physical server and its availability. When it comes to managing server memory, operating systems, and other server resources, unmanaged virtual private server hosting necessitates either experience in the field of technology or dedicated resources inside the organization. Unmanaged virtual private server hosting is more suitable for well-established companies that possess the requisite information technology capabilities.
Advantages of VPS hosting?
The cheap VPS hosting plans provides the features listed below. However, if you are currently using a shared hosting service provider and a dedicated server is outside your financial means, you do not need to be concerned about these issues.
Eliminate mistakes on the server.
When your website expands, you will need to add more material or more complex functionality to it, which will result in a rise in the amount of processor or memory that is required. This may result in server faults on shared hosting, such as errors involving the internal server or errors with the service being unavailable. The performance of compute-intensive websites, on the other hand, is significantly improved by virtual private server hosting since these websites no longer have to compete with other websites for processing power. In addition, if you are ready to expand your business, you may use virtual private server hosting to migrate to a new virtual machine that has a higher processing capability.
Manage a greater volume of website traffic.
Cheap shared hosting could be a good option for you while you are just getting started, but as the amount of traffic on your website increases, the performance of your website might begin to suffer. The length of time it takes for pages to load and the number of times visitors have to wait could rise as your website expands and the number of visitors increases. On the other hand, if you use virtual private server (VPS) hosting, your website will perform better than if you use shared hosting because it is able to process a greater number of requests.
Applications can be customized.
An affordable VPS hosting provides greater control over the environment of your web server than shared hosting. This allows you to install software and customizations that are unique to your needs. It is also easier to integrate with other applications, such as customer relationship management or bookkeeping systems, when using virtual private server hosting. It is also possible to install firewalls and other individualized security measures on your system.

It is important to take into consideration how hands-on you want to be when choosing a virtual private server (VPS), as well as whether or not you are able to hire someone else to handle the hard work for you. It is recommended that you go with the unmanaged virtual private server (VPS) if you are interested in operating your server. On the other hand, if you want assistance with server maintenance, automated backups, and software updates, go with the managed version. When selecting a virtual private server (VPS) hosting service provider.

Choosing the Right Web Hosting: Shared Hosting vs Vps vs Dedicated Server

Shared Hosting vs Vps vs Dedicated Server, having a strong online presence is vital for businesses and individuals alike. Whether you’re running a small blog, an e-commerce website, or a large enterprise, your choice of web hosting can significantly impact your online success. Shared hosting, Virtual Private Servers (VPS), and dedicated servers are three common options that cater to a wide range of hosting needs. In this comprehensive guide, we’ll explore the differences and benefits of shared hosting, VPS, and dedicated servers to help you make an informed decision.
Shared Hosting: The Budget-Friendly Option Shared hosting is often the entry point for individuals and small businesses venturing into the online world. It’s like renting a tiny space in a large building, where multiple tenants share resources like space, electricity, and maintenance costs.
Affordability: Shared hosting is the most budget-friendly option. Hosting providers distribute server resources among multiple users, resulting in lower costs. Ease of Use: It’s incredibly user-friendly. You don’t need to be a tech guru to get your website up and running. Most providers offer user-friendly control panels, like cPanel, to simplify site management. Technical Maintenance: Hosting providers handle server maintenance, so you don’t have to worry about updates, security, or performance optimization. Resource Limitations: The major drawback of shared hosting is the limited resources. Since many users share the same server, your website’s performance can be affected during peak times. Security Concerns: Shared hosting can be less secure, as your website shares the server with others. If one site on the server is compromised, it can potentially impact others. Scalability: As your website grows, you might outgrow shared hosting. It’s not suitable for high-traffic or resource-intensive websites. VPS (Virtual Private Server): The Best of Both Worlds A Virtual Private Server is like having your own apartment in a multi-story building. While you still share the physical hardware with other users, VPS hosting creates isolated virtual environments for each user, offering a higher degree of control and security.
Resource Allocation: VPS hosting provides a dedicated portion of server resources for your website. This means your site’s performance remains stable and unaffected by other users on the server. Customization: You have more control over your server environment. You can install custom software, configure settings, and even choose your operating system. Cost-Effective Scalability: VPS hosting is scalable. You can easily upgrade or downgrade your plan to accommodate changing traffic levels or resource requirements. Enhanced Security: VPS hosting offers best security than shared hosting. Your virtual environment is isolated, reducing the risk of your site being affected by others. Managed or Unmanaged: Depending on your technical expertise, you can opt for managed or unmanaged VPS hosting. Managed plans come with support, while unmanaged plans require you to handle server administration. Technical Knowledge: VPS hosting may require a bit more technical know-how compared to shared hosting, but it’s still accessible for most users. Dedicated Server: The Powerhouse Solution A dedicated server is like owning a standalone house, giving you complete control over the property. In this scenario, the entire server is yours to use as you see fit.
Full Resource Control: Dedicated servers offer you the entire server’s resources. You won’t have to share CPU, RAM, or storage with anyone else. High Performance: With dedicated resources, your website will perform at its best, even during traffic spikes. Complete Customization: You have the freedom to configure the server as per your specific needs, making it suitable for hosting multiple high-traffic websites or resource-intensive applications. Security: Dedicated servers provide top-tier security, as you’re the sole user. You can implement advanced security measures to protect your data. Technical Expertise Required: Managing a dedicated server demands a strong technical skill set. If you’re not comfortable with server administration, you’ll need to hire a sysadmin or opt for managed dedicated hosting. Cost: Dedicated servers are the most expensive hosting option due to the exclusive use of resources and the associated maintenance costs. Making the Right Choice The choice between shared hosting, VPS, and dedicated server hosting ultimately depends on your specific needs and resources. Here are some guidelines to help you decided:
Shared Hosting: Ideal for beginners, personal blogs, and small websites with low traffic. It’s the most budget-friendly option but comes with resource limitations. VPS Hosting: A versatile option that suits small to medium-sized businesses and growing websites. It offers a good balance of control, performance, and cost. Dedicated Server Hosting: For large businesses, e-commerce sites, or applications with high resource demands. It provides complete control and performance but requires a higher budget and technical expertise. Shared Hosting vs Vps vs Dedicated Server, Consider your website’s current and future requirements, budget, technical skills, and the level of control and security you need when making your decision. Hosting providers often offer various plans within these categories, so you can find the one that best fits your needs.
Conclusion Shared Hosting vs Vps vs Dedicated Server, selecting the right hosting solution is a critical decision that can impact your website’s performance, security, and scalability. Understanding the differences between shared hosting, VPS, and dedicated servers is the first step towards making an informed choice. Evaluate your unique requirements and resources, and choose the hosting option that aligns best with your goals and budget.

"any idiot can set up cpanel" lmao I just know this person watched one (1) YouTube tutorial and is now serving a static site from an unsecured public s3 bucket that's somehow still vulnerable to Heartbleed.
If you're talking about cpanel you are not "technically literate", you're using a nice clickops UI that a technically literate person built for you. There's no shame in that but don't condescend to other people about it.
And yeah, even learning how to register a domain and set up cpanel takes a level of expertise that most people don't have, and at that point you've learned just enough to get you and your unlucky colleagues in big trouble with an accidental misconfiguration. Messing around with a little personal project is different from building something that serves customer needs securely.
Hey if you own a business I need you to repeat after me:
I will not let my web developer manage my domain registration.
My domains are my responsibility and they cannot be handed to a contractor.
If I do not control my domains, I do not control my website.
If my domain is paid for on somebody else's credit card, it isn't really mine.
I will read every contract carefully and abide by its terms.
If the terms of a contract are not agreeable to me, I will amend them until the contractor and I both agree to and are aware of the terms.
I will pay my contractors in a timely fashion.
I will not burn bridges with my contractors.
I will pay for domain registration myself, and will never grant anyone else complete control over my domain.
I will not let my web developer manage my domain registration.
