May Spring Round Masterlist

May was such a busy and amazing month filled with so many flower creations for different ships! We had a total of 37 works created for this round. That’s 32 fics, 2 art pieces, 2 fic AND art pieces and 1 podfic, with top 3 ships being Snarry, Tomarry and Drarry. The challenge may be over for now, but folks can still pick any HP Flowers Spring prompt card, make a creation and submit it to the AO3 collection, which will stay open until the end of the year. Without further ado, here are all the works that were submitted:

Snarry (Severus Snape / Harry Potter)

first: thank you @microficmay for putting on such an incredible challenge! what a month! this was my first time writing microfics, and as someone who considers themselves a maximalist, stylistically, this absolutely lived up to its billing as a challenge. i won’t pretend it wasn’t difficult at times, and i won’t pretend there weren’t days where i sat on my couch and glared at google docs, begging fifty to be more words than it is. but i’m (gird your loins) proud of myself for sticking with it. it was in the end a very lovely time.

Excerpt:

The continuous buzzing of his mobile pulls Harry out of an enjoyable dream and grumbling unhappily about some people’s audacity. He rolls away from Draco and searches his nightstand with bleary, unfocused eyes. Finding his glasses first, Harry drags himself into a half-upright position before reaching for his phone. He blinks a few times to sharpen his vision, and his thumb hovers above the touchscreen, ready to swipe to accept the call. The words ‘there better be a catastrophe about to happen’ dance on the tip of his tongue, and he’s prepared to show his prickly side when he notes the Caller ID — Teddy is calling, and it’s a video call too.

Harry’s irritation over being roused from his sleep at six in the morning on a Sunday dissipates in an instant and checking on Draco—who is still fast asleep—Harry pushes his duvet back and slips out of bed. He doesn’t bother with his slippers, and accepting the call, he places a finger across his lips to stop Teddy from speaking. Harry makes it out of the bedroom in a few large strides, and closing the door behind him; he heads across the landing into his study.

As he steps into the room, he finds himself squinting. Sun’s pouring through the windows and he’s not prepared for quite that much light this early in the morning. He waves his hand to wandlessly close the curtains, temporarily banning the sun’s golden fingers from flooding the room with a pearly glow.

“Hey,” he says softly, looking at Teddy, whose face is right there in front of him.

Neville cleared his throat, and Justin looked over. "Hey Justin, where would you go if you were taking someone out in Muggle London?"

Justin smiled. "Have a hot date?"

Neville gently set down the bubotuber he'd been carrying and wiped his brow, realizing too late he'd probably wiped dirt into his skin. "I'd like to, yeah. Where can I take her?"

Justin set down two nightshades on the warded shelf used for the most poisonous plants. He was on the shorter side and had thick, dark black hair. Like Neville, he dressed casually, in jeans and a t-shirt. His blue eyes narrowed at Neville, and it was clear he suspected who Neville wanted to take out, but he must have thought better of asking. Instead, he asked another question. "Is it serious or casual?"

Neville contemplated for a moment, "Casual, but I want it to be serious."

Justin smiled. "And the bird, is she a muggle? Or you just want to impress her with your knowledge of the muggle world?"

Neville shook his head and walked back to the truck. He could sense Justin was following behind. "She's a witch," Neville replied, trying to keep the other man from prying anymore. "Do you have a suggestion or not?"

They grabbed the last few items from the truck bed and walked back inside with them.

"Touchy about this, it seems. I don't think I've seen you ask a girl on a date since I started working with you. Wait, did Katarina finally make a move?"

Neville groaned. "You knew she had a thing for me?"

Justin stopped walking, leaving the gap between them to widen. "You didn't? Nev, my friend. That woman drools over you on the daily. How were you unaware?"

"The date is not Katarina. Now bring those Shrivelfigs over to the last table," Neville ordered.

Justin began marching to the table, his knees pulling up high and his feet stomping back on the stone floor. "Sir, yes, sir."

Neville rolled his eyes. "I don't know why I thought I could talk to you about this."

So I felt the need to give Draco a twin brother named Corvus. The Corvus constellation means crow and is associated with the God Apollo. Throughout the ages crows were thought to be attracted to shiny things (this has been debunked) still I thought it a coincidence that crows and dragons were both creatures that would be drawn to treasure. What greater treasure is there but the golden girl herself that they both would hoard her possessively.

Totally aware this roundup is very late, but better to post now rather than never, right? October had a variety of flowery creations for different ships that deserve shout-outs.
