it all feels fun and refreshing to him. something he did not have the luxury to feel when he was younger

at your encouragement, he signs the two of you up for surf lessons one day

aventurine is…not a natural 

you’re both falling off the boards and needing the instructor to come and fish you out of the waves

after a few too many close calls, aventurine decides he never wants to go surfing again 

when the sun sets and golden hour hits, you take one million photos of aventurine, at minimum

jing yuan thinks going to an amusement park is the peak summertime activity

of course, he shares all that with you once you get tired of using your foldable fan

jing yuan is an amusement park snack afficionado. a salty pretzel? yes. a sweet treat? yes. a whole ass turkey leg? also yes. 

you are never hungry during your outing since jing yuan has you covered

the loudness of your music lowers down, realising one side of your earbuds had been pulled out, your two friends, jimin, and yoongi, suddenly in sight. "jeez y/n we've been calling your phone since last period, its lunch right now" jimin, one of your friends say

Taking a seat in between jimin and jungkook, yoongis seated at the corner beside jimin, the rest seated in a line after jungkook

"If youre cold, let me know okay?" Jungkook says from beside you as you simply nod

"C'mere" He gestures, pulling off his large ass jacket from one arm, placing it around you, in that way the both of you are covered. His arm rests around you and on your arm, rubbing it slightly for warmth

Mark watches the both of you from beside Jungkook, he stares subtly before wanting to make conversation with you 

"Y/n, have you watched the first conjuring movie already?" He leans in and tries to ask, but you were too comfortable at the moment, you had your eyes closed, drowning out all the sound around you

That dosent go un noticed by Mark, his eyes snap towards Jungkook, confused.

You still dont realise somebodys talking to you so Mark takes that opportunity to question Jungkook, "You guys are together?" He asks as Jungkook smiles, he got what he wanted.

"Nope" He replies shortly, turning away to use his phone, not giving him a proper explanation on why he was able to call you that, and thats what he wanted. He wanted to leave Mark in confusion, he wanted to deny his question but leave him knowing that y/n was not available. He didnt even realise what he was doing until he was left in silence for a few minutes 

He turned to look at you, resting peacefully against him. He stares at the arm he wrapped around you. And he didnt know why it never occurred to him that this may not be the most normal thing between opposite genders, until now. But he knew he had no feelings for you, and he knew you had no feelings for him. It was clear the both of you were just friends. Just friends.

something that bothers me about the twilight series is. while ive seen a lot of critics bring up the point of why immortal beings hundreds of years old would bother with going to fucking highschool forever. and i agree but im also thinking about the logistics of this in the modern age. like maybe this is brought up in the books cause i didnt read them just skimmed a bit of the later ones. so the idea is that this vampire family is like moving around every few years and enrolling the "kids" in different highschools for whatever fucking reason. because at most they could stay like four years and then the "kids" graduate but also they havent aged a day and neither have the parents so oops! time to beat feat to the next town. but ok in the modern age if youre gonna go to school or hold a job you need. documents. ID. all that shit. so like are they getting real good fakes or what. cause i dunno old timey vampire stories are fine but any modern vampire story kinda falls apart because we have like. social security numbers in this day and age right. govt issued IDs and such right. also i think the dad vampire is like a doctor or something so did he like get his doctorate in the 1700s or whatever and has a fake. hows that work. i think a modern vampire story where they have to live off the grid would work and be cool but basically every popular modern vampire series is like yeah they just live like humans and have regular jobs and shit. and i dont buy it

“My god, Furi. Is it this one?” I say through the call, picking up a random book with an identical title.

Anyone who knows me can already tell I don’t have the patience for this kind of thing. The smell of bookshops are nice—but actually spending hours in this place makes me a bit annoyed.

I mean, you should atleast have a way to get the book you want immediately, right?

“No, no no. This can’t do… Quick, check the fiction area! There still might be a copy in the stands.” Furina panics, I can already imagine her pacing around the hotel room.

“Fine, but this is the last one. If we still can’t find it then i’m sorry—we’ll go tomorrow, okay?”

“Alright, deal. But if its out of stock i’m blaming you.”

“Whatever,” I roll my eyes. I head over to the fiction section, phone still in hand.

“This one?” I flip the camera so she can see it, her voice immediately lights up.

“That! Exactly that one. Get it, I order you!” She squeals.

“Yeah, yeah I already am… Stop screaming, everyone can hear you!”

“Uh—excuse me please.” A voice says, right beside me.

I realize that maybe what im wearing might be strange. All denim, ripped cloth, it’s not really their fashion here in Fontaine. Either way, its not that big of a deal. I get stares all the time.

It makes me a little nervous.

“Um, yeah. You mean this right?” I show the book in-hand. Furina says something about not giving it away, but I dont listen and hang up the call immediately.

“Yeah. That one.” They say, looking back at the table and realizing there are no other copies left.

“Is this like a popular book or something? Everyone seems to be getting it.” I scan the book for any details why—I mean the cover isnt anything interesting at all. Just a fancy white and gold mask with feathers.

A chill R&B song plays in the shop’s speakers, filling the atmosphere with something playful.

“I mean a newspaper just recently covered it. This is just the collectors edition, so anyone who really liked the book or likes to collect would buy this.” They point at the book. “The unique thing about is that there are only a total of 500 prints. It makes that really rare.”

“So you must really want this, then?”

They nod once more.

“One of my favorite books of all time.”

“I see… Well you know my friend, Furi, she really wants this book and I—I didn’t know you needed this too.” I try to explain, “I mean im just assuming you want to buy it?”

“No, its okay. She can have it, I don’t mind.” They wave their arms, no.

One of my friends shared the news in an Instagram group chat, and I was PISSED. So, your girl is back with another rant.

We have come full circle. I dont know if it's because me and my peers and I are grown adults now, and we are no longer in that Stranger Things/Riverdale era where everyone wouldn't shut up about their favorite Netflix shows. I remember those days when Netflix took over and everyone had it. I was late to the party because back then I didn't have the money to be able to afford streaming services, and I had to resort to websites like KissCartoon, KissAnime, and those YouTube videos with the high pitched voices and the TV show playing in the corner of the screen (or, if you were unlucky, a 2 hour background on a loop with a link to the video in the description).

Well, it appears that I might be going back to that route because, at this point, the cost of all these subscriptions is eating into my wallet. I can eat the cost of the $12/month for the plan listed in the screenshot because I was "grandfathered in." However, add the cost of Spotify premium (which went up now that I'm no longer a student), my gym membership, and other streaming services.

Others have even mentioned online that we have too many streaming services to begin with to the point where it is becoming like cable. Even mobile carriers and other sites (like Spotify) include access in their plans-- I used to get free Hulu with Spotify Premium student (but I never used it because I heard the ads are unbearable). Netflix had the most access with shows before companies bought the rights to many of them. A lot of shows that are on MAX, Hulu, and Prime Video used to be on Netflix, believe it or not. Not to mention all of these random smaller sites like Vix, Britbox, Crackle, Paramount Plus, and others I forgot to mention - it is becoming too much. Eventually, cable companies will start bundling these services into their plans.

The main reason why I am on Netflix so much is to keep up with shows and movies that have stemmed from the books I have read, and because I don't want to have to use Prime Video or buy them individually. Shadow and Bone is on there, Heartstopper, All the Light We Cannot See, and other series that were based on books. Netflix also has a good selection of anime and cartoons, like Bee and Puppycat or Jojo's Bizarre Adventure (mainly part 6, which is a Netflix exclusive!).

I even have nostalgia merch that I purchased secondhand and from Hot Topic of shows that were once big on Netflix and TV, mainly from being interested in these fandoms back in my younger days. Back in high school, if you wore Stranger Things merch, you would receive tons of compliments. Now, it's almost as if no one even knows the show, as if the hype died down. I don't see people talking about it as much online anymore since people were shitting on Eddie Munson and Max Mayfield stans and Kate Bush and Metallica blew up on the internet. You can literally find their merch at Ross now - not to hate on Ross, because I love shopping there, but a lot of pop culture merchandise that I find there is mainly from fandoms that are super generic or have otherwise died down. I remember wanting Rick and Morty merch so bad when it was popular! Now, you can literally find their merch everywhere - the men's section of Ross and Rue21 is flooded with their hoodies and shirts. This can also be tied with harmful trend cycles, but I will go deeper into this topic in another post.

Wrapping this post up because I'm getting mad. But I might post another rant soon. Not sure yet.

i dont normally table locally and this weekend i was well reminded why, artists get no fucking respect here (not all the time, but like a significant %) and by respect i dont mean 'omg dalao i kneel' reverence but 'these things were made by an actual human and not pumped out by some company though some people really do pump out 10000 characters in the same pose and style but not the point here lol

anyway we (was sharing a table with 2 other friends) kept getting asked if we were going to the next local event or something, it happened so many times that we ended up putting a sign saying we are not(friends don't live here and i go to jp events); a lot of people seem to basically pay the entrance fee, window shop and then go 'oh well this artist will surely still be here at the next event right so why should i have to buy their merch now' like we're some motherfucking chain store to only purchase when there's a sale or something

also if you live here you most probably live with your family aka no rent and sometimes no bills of your own to pay so i get really 🤨 when people go 'oh i dont have money!' (said in a very 'i dont think this thing is worth the price' kind of tone imo)

and then you have the people that will just...talk to you for 5-10 minutes about something unrelated to anything on the table and then leave without buying anything. apparently my friend even got hit up by an amway grifter lmao like ?????????????

US: people value your time and skills used to produce whatever they like and compensate you for it, artists generally spread a wide net by drawing entire casts or the popular ones and customers usually buy what they want right away

here: customers will stare at your table for 5 minutes and then talk to their friends while still in front of your table or poses/asks for a cosplay pic right in front of your table, ooh and aah at your merch for 10minutes before hemming and hawing about whether they will buy it and then going away like they have to judge how worthy the transaction will be as if the item will be there always or suddenly flexes some random thing or claims your book is related to something they saw and hold you hostage for 20mins talking your ear off about it (happened to my friend and the guy didn't even buy the book after reading fully through it. lol)

like yes JP doujin events work very differently from western cons and i did have fun this weekend (there were some really nice people!!) but like. i think having manners should be a universal thing right…???

i hope that youre not getting too much hate for expressing your opinions and im looking forward to getting to know more about your future projects! ive been a fan of wayhaven books for a couple of years out and whilst its one of my faves, but that doesnt mean that i dont have any criticisms about it. i honestly think you made a lot of valid points. whilst i understand that wayhaven can be a comfort series for some people, i dont think that media should be exempt from criticism for doing the bare minimum. i thought she had gotten sensitivity readers, yet as someone whos demi myself, the portrayal of A's demisexuality throughout the series has been horrendous and it feels like it was just tacked on for no reason. the whole plot point with sin, a deity that used to be worshipped by assyrians being enslaved by the trappers was honestly not necessary in my opinion, i felt like maybe sensitivity readers would have pointed that out or something? but at least they freed my boy in the end so idk.

Honestly I don't care if people like it or not, because as I've said before, I used to be a big enough stan of the first two games that I recommended it to two whole people who also bought both games. I've actively made the author more money. Which is why I think I'm perfectly within my right to dunk on this thing now, because I used to be a fan, I used to love it, and I still very much enjoy a lot of the fan content created for it. Hell, there were some moments and ideas in book 3 that I actually liked, despite everything. I still think a lot about the potential of these stories and characters. It's not all rotten to the core, there is plenty of good stuff to be enjoyed that can very much be salvaged.

So I honestly don't think that people who enjoy it are like, beneath me or stupid or anything. I don't think they're the problem, I think they're there for the exact same thing I was: a silly vampire romance simulator. And if some of them are happy with what they're getting, then more power to them! But I think they deserve better than they're getting. And judging by the amount of people who have come to me privately and said "Thank you for speaking about this, I would too but I'm too scared to hurt people's feelings/speak out against a popular IF", it's pretty obvious that the quality just isn't there anymore, and that's okay to point out, too.

And I'm not out here trying to cancel it or anything. It's pretty small potatoes in the grand scheme of things, being "big" in the IF world means you're an older kid in a half-empty sandbox. I don't think people who buy or create content for it are doing something bad, in fact it's probably better to support smaller indie creators than ... other stuff. So like ... I don't have issues with people enjoying it.

I just wanted it to be better. I wanted to like it, because I liked it before. And I feel that it could have easily been better if more care was put into it, and maybe there was, but I just don't see it on the page anymore. It used to feel like an actual book, actual interactive fiction that you played and that was worth reading and interacting with. Like there was a world to inhabit and characters to connect with. Now, it's a collection of tired drabbles and fanfic fodder loosely connected by time skips, where you have to headcanon it into mattering and being interesting. I dunno, man. What's there just isn't worth the hype anymore.

Why is cd better than

than vinyl? several reasons, um

any cd you buy from anywhere, can be easily uploaded onto a computer and then you have the music files forever. you can thrift a cd or get it from a used records store and the mp3s can become yours to put on any device or to burn a new cd. if you buy a new vinyl now from like bandcamp or whatever, they generally give you a download link for the songs (well bandcamp does right after you buy it no matter what format, but i also mean if you bought a new vinyl directly from the artist or something, like a vinyl of a recent album made in the last several years) but if you get a really cool thrifted vinyl, you cant have the mp3 files unless you buy them digitally or torrent it, and then youre spending more money to get something that a cd promises you outright or you have to torrent which is harder than putting a cd in and just doing it. plus its not illegal to rip a cd

portability. cds are much smaller and easily fit into a cd book or something so you could carry many at once, plus a lot of cars that are still on the road have cd players. i guess if you dont drive or your car doesnt this isnt really a factor for you, but very few cars ever had record players and the ones that did are like 70 years old at this point. plus when im in the car i get the best audio quality from a cd, downloaded streamed songs or downloaded files on an phone or an ipod dont compare. plus cd walkmans exist, theres no portable vinyl player like that.

cds are endlessly copyable, most of the cds that i keep in my car are burned copies of the albums i own. i dont like to keep the originals in the car because it would suck if it got stolen or fucked up because its in the car somehow. you can also burn your own cds of a totally unique playlist. you cant with vinyl

sometimes you can just buy a vinyl that wasnt pressed right, and itll suck and not sound how its supposed to, and also they slowly die and wear out the more you play them. not a problem with cds, though they can wear out or rot or whatever, i have a lot of experience buying used cds from a lot of different sources (many different thrift stores, used record stores, ebay, etc) and sometimes one wont upload to my computer for whatever reason, but itll stll play in a cd player. i have a few cds that are like, some of the very first albums released on cd from the 80s that work completely perfectly still.

a good vinyl player is really expensive. the mass produced ones sold in places like urban outfitters suck, and it takes alot more to get an actual good one. you can walk into any thrift store and find a really good cd player for like, under 20 bucks generally. some cd players do have better speakers than others, but even a cheap one will be pretty good unless its absolute shit. also cds themselves tend to be cheaper, used or new. i just checked a few artists on bandcamp and cds are $10-$14 dollars generally, but vinyl are $20-$30. and the same goes for used too, because theyre more popular used places sell them for more. theres less competition with cds because theyre less popular

i get that vinyl is part of a whole experience, and theres something more glamorous about it than cds, but if theyre only more popular because of vibes.... than that's just admitting theyre an inferior product isnt it? cds just arent as cool anymore. hipsters repopularized vinyl, but isnt it more hipster to do what the hipsters arent doing?

I'm gonna rant about Harry Potter for a bit. Fair warning.

I got tired of Harry Potter well over 10 years ago. The final movies hadn't even been released and because I have the disadvantage of living in bloody England Harry Potter bullshit has been EVERYWHERE for TWO FUCKING DECADES. I remember my friend dragging me to the studio tour because she got tickets for her bday. I like movie BTS stuff but my god the amount of BUY THIS BUY THAT that gets shoved in your face drove me mad. Proud to say that other than the OG books I read when I was a teenager I have never owned a single bit of HP merchandise in my LIFE. It took my irl friends bullying me to finally go on pottermore and get sorted into a Hogwarts house when I was 27. TWENTYSEVEN. I resisted for years!! I don't even care. They sat me down and made me log on to that stupid website and take the stupid quiz whilst I raised an eyebrow the whole time and tried to smile and pretend it was fun. After all, I'm not actually a total bitch and they are my friends and were enjoying themselves and I didn't wanna upset them. But why do I need to know if I'm a hufflepuff or whatever? Oh thats right, so I can buy the appropriate MERCHANDISE.

You know real witches make their wands? They go out and find a tree and ask the tree if they can take a branch, you have to give the tree something back and say a blessing. You can add crystals or ribbon or whatever you want but a wand is NOT something you buy in a bloody shop. I hate that HP made kids think that.

Why would anyone wanna buy a game about a nearly 3 decade old franchise thats been shoved in all our faces practically our whole lives (if you are a millennial or younger). Im not a gamer anyway so I don't get the appeal but even without all the transphobia and antisemitism involved the whole concept is extremely tiresome to me.

Can we please be done with Harry Potter now??? I dont wanna see it. I dont wanna see anything about it. I didnt give a fuck when I was in my early twenties and I dont give a fuck now in my late thirties its never been any fucking good. Its a rip off of Lord of the rings crossed with the writing of Terry Pratchet and Neil Gaiman anyway.

For years I felt awkward even mentioning to people that I didnt like Harry Potter, like it was a cardinal sin or something. I'm glad people are finally seeing it for what it truly it, even though I wish it didnt take the lives and rights of transpeople to get to this point. Its disgusting that its still so damn popular even WITH JKRs blatant transphobia. I hope the boycotts work. Trans and Jewish people you have my love and support, for both your sakes and so that bloody franchise can stop being shoved in my face everytime I leave the bloody house. Im glad people are finally picking it apart and realising how problematic it was. Things I think made me uncomfortable about it before I really understood the depth of reasons why.

I have been obsessed with witchcraft and paganism since I was a child. I was a weird kid. Harry Potter turned something I was passionate about in a deeply personal way into a consumerist nightmare. Witch became synonymous with it, spells, charms, magic, I'm honestly surprised JKR didnt try to copyright the terms.

Look I dont often talk about social issues. My tumblr is my escape from the injustices of the world and I take my mental health very seriously. But I support trans and jewish people in boycotting this game.

I care about trans rights, about the rights of LGBTQA+ people. The rise of antisemitism AGAIN deeply disturbs me. People truly never learn from history do they? I try to do my bit where I can offline. I have signed petitions, I have donated to causes where I have found them and I am most definitely gonna do my damndest to get everyone I know to vote the transphobic (and otherwise generally evil in every way) Tory government OUT at the next election.

This rant may come across a bit selfish. It is tbh. I am fucking glad Harry Potter isnt popular anymore. Though outside of online communities particularly in the UK its still huge and everywhere. I wish we could wipe it off the face of the Earth.

I am fed up of all these franchises though. If I never have to sit through another Marvel movie it'll be a happy day. If I never have to hear the fucking Star Wars theme again I'll celebrate, if I never have to read about another Disney remake again Ill be so relieved (although I do get some satisfaction reading about them flopping). This post capitalism hellscape we exist in is fucking exhausting.

What we really need to do with these franchises though is pull an Avatar on them (the blue people not the cool cartoon). We need to stop talking about them. Stop letting them infect our collective cultural consciousness. The only way to get them out of our faces is to actually let them die. We did it right with Fantastic Beasts. We can do it again. Remember that in capitalism, even negative press is good press, and the more the press focuses on the controversies and discourse, the more the name of the game is getting into the minds of consumers, especially those that dont give a fuck about trans rights or antisemitism.

I dont know where it ends, but my god I hope it HAS an end. Something surely has got to give right? Anyways. I dunno if there was a point to this rant other than im fed up of a lot of things and feeling particularly grumpy today, but anyways. Boycott Harry Potter and all things related to it.

Long post warning and spoiler warning for the Artemis Fowl movie

Here’s a collection of things I wrote down that offended me as a reader of the Artemis Fowl books. I have re read the first three books in the last few days so my memory is fresh.

Artemis II has morals. Disgusting. He is shocked and offended when the news calls Artemis I a criminal. In the third book, Artemis II is literally offended when his father wants to stop being criminals.

Artemis II also seems to be not only in good physical shape but is ACTIVE. VOLUNTARILY! This child was known to look like a vampire because spending all day looking at computer screens bleached the life out of his skin and you’re going to tell me he can SURF???

His dad (Artemis I) is a decent father. Leaves a lot but is at least a kind and loving father when home. Book Artemis I is not a good dad until he gets a near death experience and some fairy magic. Artemis II expects their first conversation after Artemis I wakes up to be about the family business, which I think indicates a lot about their relationship before Artemis I goes missing.

Artemis’ mom is dead??? (At least that’s what I got from the therapy conversation) Disney’s love of dead mothers strike again I guess. His mom is actually the only moral one in the family and is one of the primary motivators of his few selfless actions that occur in the first book.

This was the worst one so far- Calling Butler not only by his first name, but by a nickname from his first introduction. He doesn’t go by his first name until he is shot in the heart and literally seconds away from death in the third book, sharing his name with Artemis before being on his death bed is wholly against his code as a bodyguard.

Juliet Butler is now Butler’s niece instead of younger sister and is the same age as Artemis instead of older. I don’t know why they did this. I was expecting a forced romance plot with Juliet and Artemis but that didn’t happen, so I can’t figure out what the purpose of this change was.

Butler (Dom 🤢) and Juliet are black instead of European-Asian. I’d say it’s good that they’re still POC EXCEPT for the fact that they white washed Holly, a main character, and then moved the black character status to side characters when instead we could’ve had a black main character and European-Asian side characters. You don’t get diversity points when you took away book canon diversity. And, Butler and Juliet’s roles are significantly lessened, especially since one of Butler’s primary roles is being an actual father figure for Artemis. Since Artemis I is a decent father, Butler’s father figure role seriously lacks the emotional connection that exists in the book because even when Artemis I wasn’t missing he was still a cold and absent father. Butler was Artemis II’s only real dad for the first few books.

It doesn’t look like Holly even tries to be shielded in the troll fight? I know they have to be wiped anyways but she still wouldn’t just fly around in front of them willy nilly. Actually, I don’t think they’re using shields or camo foil at all since they transported the troll with no shielding.

I’m still upset at Root being a woman. They gave Holly a traitor father plot, which may be something in the later books that I don’t remember, but it’s not anywhere near as powerful or interesting a sub plot as Holly’s book sub plot of being the first female LEPrecon officer. I know 2020 is a lot different than early 2000s but there’s still value and power in a female character being the one breaking glass ceilings.

Josh Gad is a short human but idk why they couldn’t CGI him to be actually as short as the other magic people. Mulch is not a giant dwarf. He is a literal dwarf. This is the only complaint I have with Mulch though, he was probably closest to his book version so he passes.

Artemis II doesn’t believe in fairies at first when him being a child who still believes in fairies is the whole driving motivation of his big plot in the first book.

As I suspected, this is kind of a blending of book plots. Missing/recovering the father from the first two books, with Opal Koboi acting as the big bad. Artemis does kidnap Holly but it’s with an intention of saving his father instead of selfish motivations. I’m still appalled that they gave him morals. Disgusting.

I’d be mad at them speeding up his friendship with Holly but it’s cute so I’ll let it slide. If she hadn’t punched him in the face I wouldn’t have let it slide but she did punch him so it’s okay.

Sequel bait! Also, Artemis calls himself a criminal mastermind when he’s only done a single criminal thing and it was for the greater good lmao. Kidnapping Holly BARELY counts when you became best friends and let her go in like an hour. Also, the Fowls are apparently protectors of the secret of fairies now. Which Artemis does kind of eventually become that in the books but it’s largely out of self interest (getting to keep patents over his adapted fairy tech and such) and only partially out of friendship with specific fairies.

It’s kind of impressive how many elements they put into the movie from the first book while having a completely different plot than the first book.

Overall, I wish that they had done a more faithful adaptation to the books, but it’s not a terrible movie. Not great, but not the worst movie I’ve watched. Not anywhere close to as good as the books.

Also, I think that the book has a much more opinionated feeling than the movie does. A lot of the scenes in the first book that occur in Haven are about the problems with the LEP (who are, obviously, representing the police force). A lot of it is discussion of lack of funding, lack of diversity, the political aspects of getting promoted to command. The book has things to say. Not just about LEP/police forces but about society as a whole, later books address gang violence, address billionaires and selfishness leading them to watch the world burn. The billionaire CEO villain of the third book literally says something like “I’m dying in a few decades, I have no family, no kids, I have no reason to care about the next generation, so I’ll get rich and the world can burn for all I care.” The books have opinions about things it talks about. The movie has nothing. It doesn’t take any stances about ANYTHING the books address. It’s very hollow.

(And, let me say I blame none of this on the actors. The kids did a great job, I think they have a good future because these were solid performances. It’s not the fault of his actor that Artemis isn’t book Artemis, it’s not the fault of Holly or the Butlers that they had their race changed, that’s all on the writers, directors, and casting directors. I think that the actors all played what they were given well, but what they were given wasn’t good.)

huh. suddenly remembered that one time i scammed a lot of people in high school. and before anybody tells me im terrible (which is tru) i'd like to make it clear i only asked for and got PHP 20 (0.39 USD) from each person i scammed

but yea, i had found and read this book at the library about handwriting analysis. it listed down various elements of handwriting: how close letters were, cursive vs print, sizes of loops, left or right leaning letters, people who dot their "i" or dont, people who always have a lowercase "i" even when refering to themselves, even margins and how when some people write, their margins either get wider or narrower. it was a fascinating book in terms of explaining the differences and characteristics of handwriting

but also it was complete bullshit bc it connected these characteristics to hidden personality traits of the writer. stuff like "if somebody's margins get narrower and narrower (on a sample where the person is writing on unlined paper) as they write a paragraph, they have a very low self esteem" and it's absolute bullshit, i knew that, i was more interested in just knowing all details

so to test out my knowledge i asked classmates to write a paragraph samples for me. write whatever, idc, i didnt actually read the words, i just looked for the handwriting characteristics just to test myself if i could pick stuff out. but then ppl started asking me "ohhhh why did you circle that letter? what does that mean? does it say anything about me?"

because people love getting told about their personality. it's why uquizzes and astrology is so popular. and, well, i already had what the book told me so i just said all the personality traits that i learned from it that were associated with each element in their handwriting.

and classmates were like "WOAAAAHHH THATS TOTALLY ME!!" which is the Barnum Effect (general statements that can apply to a wide range of people are percieved to be tailor fit for one specific person) in full fucking force.

and then so so many people started giving me handwriting samples to "analyze" and like....by that point, i figured if i was spending so much time on this (i WAS since i was going thru each element to piece together a "personality" write up) i might as well make some money from it

and i did.

i did make money from it. i dont remember how much cuz usually whatever i got that day i'd just use it to buy some ice cream or snacks as a treat

anyways!

utena and anthy find each other after a few months, they cry and talk for an hour when they meet. they get a small apartment on the first floor and fill it with plants and flowers, a single rose blooms near a window, utena adds her own near it. anthy tries to get better at cooking but the only thing she learns how to make is pancakes, utena asks for them every day. anthy paints. she paints her dreams and memories, theres always a teacup in her paintings, or a stopwatch, or a bird, or an apple, or a car, never a rose. utena tends to the plants more than anthy does, she struggles at first but adjusts quickly and she likes seeing them grow new leaves or bloom. she becomes a photographer and takes pictures of every new thing she sees, though she takes more pictures of her and anthy than anything else. sometimes she practices swordfighting with chuchu, she buys him his own little sword, he wins every time.

nanami leaves ohtori first. she finds it hard to adjust to the outside world and has to go back to school (not ohtori). she realizes she loves learning and wonders why she ever had tsuwabuki doing everything for her. she goes on to become an architect and designs clothes in her free time. she never builds towers. when tsuwabuki leaves he studies architecture too at first, but nanami pushes him to do what he actually wants. he becomes a biologist, the cow is his favourite animal.

juri would keep fencing or maybe give fencing classes, she would live with shiori and theyd go birdwatching a lot, maybe have a few birds of their own, still feeling guilty for the bird that crashed into the window at ohtori. juri would never want a wedding but shiori pushes her into it. they invite everyone. touga doesnt come. juri gives her locket to shiori at the end of her vows, telling her that she doesnt need it anymore, shiori is right there infront of her and the pictures in her mind are always prettier than the one in the locket.

miki would probably go to juris fencing lessons, maybe help her out a bit, but i dont think he would continue playing piano professionally, maybe as a hobby or just at parties. kozue would get back into piano though, she'd go to mikis house on lazy afternoons and he would help her out with the parts she just cant get right. maybe theyd play concerts for their old friends. they never play the sunlit garden again.

saionji would pick up a lot of hobbies and drop most of them, hopping from one to the other. the ones he'd stick to most would be carving and painting, calming hobbies. he'd live alone in a house in the countryside, only sometimes going into the city to visit the others, but never staying too long for fear of overstaying his welcome. he'd raise chickens and grow vegetables in his backyard, maybe sometimes he would practice kendo, but it leaves a bad taste in his mouth.

wakaba and tatsuya (the onion prince) get closer after getting out, they become good friends and visit utena and the others together, no one ever seems to remember his name. in her free time she becomes an author, shes not too popular but she doesnt mind. she writes for herself and sends all her books to utena and anthy for free even though anthy insists on buying the copies herself. wakaba goes to visit them almost every day, she helps them out with cooking and pulls them out of the house to go sightseeing and on picnics. she still doesnt understand why utena chose anthy over her, but she accepts it now.

touga gets out last. he lives on his own in the middle of a busy city so that nobody will ever recognize him. he finally cuts his hair and cries when he sees the strands in the sink. he bleaches it. sometimes he sees the others walking around but never says hi, he doesnt think he deserves to. one time he bumps into juri at the park and she tells him he looks familiar, he doesnt respond, just walks past. when she invites him to her wedding he comes but stands outside the venue and never goes inside. no one would want to see him. he and nanami exchange letters but he never goes to see her, he doesnt know if shes forgiven him. he becomes a foster parent to lots of kids and tries his best, he never wants what happened to him to happen to them. he adopts a green haired boy.
