A Word With Friends/Wip Wednesday

Thank you @jenn2d2 for the word of the week, and @hedwigoprah for making a tag game that makes me really stretch my brain muscles. Not gonna lie, this one hurt lol.

This week's word is Perspicacious

Definition:

Quick in noticing, understanding, or judging things accurately or of acute mental vision or discernment.

I took the easy way out this week. I won’t do it every week (probably). Also put it in this WIP of my Chuck E. Cheese AU. So enjoy a snippet of Welcome to Nug E Cheese. This is still part of the first chapter. If you’d like to read the beginning, you can find it here

Some people like to torture Lucanis with angst and feelings. I like to torture him with bad coffee and the horrors of a minimum wage job.

“Sorry, don’t mind me.  I’m just gonna get old Joe going,” he explained.

“Good idea. I need some coffee after that meeting,’ Neve agreed.

Turvi approached old Joe. The machine was ancient. 15? 20? Years old. No one was really sure. They suspected it had been left behind by the original construction crew when then store was built.  He took a deep breath and began The Routine.

“Good morning Old Joe,” he began.

Lucanis looked up from his papers and didn’t say anything, simply raised one eyebrow.

Neve smirked at him, “Trust the process. Old Joe likes Rook the best.”

Turvi then turned on the machine. Turned off the machine. Unplugged it, counted to 15, and plugged it back in. He filled the water reservoir, put in a new filter, and grabbed the budget sized can of store brand ground coffee. When Lucanis spotted the giant can, Turvi thought he heard a small sound of distress. Once the coffee was in, he closed the the lid and wrapped a big rubber band around it to keep it shut. 

“I’m almost afraid to ask,” Lucanis finally chimed in. “What is the rubber band for?”

Turvi grinned. “It’s like a seat belt, you gotta strap in, it’s for everyone’s safety.” Next he hit the start button, and after that he banged on the top 3 times. “You see Neve, the reason that Harding’s coffee isn’t as good, is that she only hits Joe twice because she feels bad. He needs 3 to really get going.”

Old joe wheezed and started to gurgle and bubble. “When you hear the wheeze, you know it’s going to be a good pot.” He turned around, hands on his hips with satisfaction, grinning at Neve. Lucanis didn’t say anything for a moment. The man’s eyebrows were furrowed deeply though.

Lucanis handed his completed paperwork over to Neve. She flipped through the pages, skimming over his writing. “Well, this looks good. I’ll go see if we have any spare polos in storage, but I’ll have to order you more. We weren’t expecting to get anyone new today,” Neve said by way of apology. 

“If you can’t find one, he can wear mine,” Turvi offered. “I can just wear the Gus suit for the day, instead of switching in and out.”

Lucanis’ eyes widened, but he stayed silent. Neve must have clocked the face he made, because she chuckled. “Keep your clothes on Rook. He can wear his own shirt if we dont have one for him.” 

Old Joe started beeping. Turvi stepped to the side and dramatically bowed and swept his arm out towards Neve. “Ladies first.”

Neve rolled her eyes at him as she got up to grab a mug. She poured the steaming liquid and made a little hum of displeasure. “Seems this batch is a little thick. Oh well. Better luck next time Rook.”

“Thick?” Lucanis squeaked, visibly paling. “And you guys actually drink that?” He asked incredulously, as Neve took a sip. 

“Yes, very perspicacious of you,” Turvi replied. 

Neve chuckled hand on hip, “Well look who’s putting that word of the day calendar in the break room to good use,” Neve said with a laugh. 

“I try,” he confirmed with an answering smirk. 

Turning to Lucanis she shrugged, “It tastes fine, and it does the job. We work in a Nug E Cheese. We can’t afford to be picky,” she shrugged. “Now let me go see about that shirt.”

The Routine is based on actual ancient food service machinery. Not the exact routine. But my sister works at an ice cream stand that has very very old machines. You do need to do weird stuff to make them work properly, and there is an actual rubber band holding parts together. Also there is way too much smirking going on. It’s still a wip okay?

I love fantasy as my main, but my second favourite is crime/ true crime and things like Agatha Christie

Both. I like to have a variety so I can get stuff done and not stress about some fun projects whilst outlining the serious ones that need a lot of work

What music do you listen to while writing?

Mostly musicals, right now its Wait For Me/Reprise from Hadestown, and then there's things like Linkin Park New Divide and Numb

Favorite books/movies?

Favourite books: Any Agatha Christie, Skulduggery Pleasant or A Good Girls Guide To Murder the trilogy

Keep The Peace is part of my series Amongst The Chaos, an adult fantasy slice-of-life supernatural series where its a bunch of characters living in the city of Nottingham, and meeting up at various places to get together and talk about events that have happened in their lives as they live amongst the supernatural - e.g Angels. Demons, Ghosts and the like and their reactions to the chaos.

If someone were to make a cartoon out of you what would your standard outfit be?

jogging bottoms and a lilo and stitch t-shirt or a game of thrones t-shirt, stich trainers, a stitch handbag and a sunflower lanyard.

Create a character description of yourself: 

Fat non-binary person really into eating and crafting and loves to dye hair different colours, cannot see for shit without glasses and cannot drive.

Do you like incorporating actual people you know into your writing?

Yes and no. All my characters are original, but sometimes my mother will suggest 'oh, write about our family, your nephews, the cats' ect and to be honest with you, ive never figured out how to fit them in, so i dont.

Are you kill happy with your characters?

Oh yeah, absolutely. I will kill whoever I want to, whenever I want to. I'm not afraid to get violent with the deaths, but I gotta do it justice

Coffee or Tea while writing?

Tea, Hot Chocolate or different juices, depending what's in my reach and i'm interested in.

Slow or fast writer?

It depends on how motivated i am, when im not in writers block i can write 2k within like 2 hours

Where/who/what do you draw inspiration from?

Everything - the books i read, the games i play, the music i listen to.Bad writing pisses me off real bad and I know I can do better

If you were in a fantasy world, what would you be?

A librarian or writer completely done wih the city being destroyed by the supernatural but being really intrigued and trying not to die.

i know i can't really control what people think of my art and my work but everything i post about mordred, percival, and co etc in LidERi is all WIP. i dont consider it fandom stuff or shipping stuff. to me it's always been an original story and what i'm sharing is original art. i dont consider myself a shipper its just.... something i'm working on. its a really personal passion project for me, mordred nazareno and lideri percival although they had their origins in arthuriana, they come from my heart and they're very personal to me, i literally grew up with them.

i just enjoy sharing my art and what i make. they are my creative outlets. i've already went through a lot w/ them and my version of them has been exploited and plagiarized more than i could count and it makes me upset.

i know it cant be helped, as a creative sharing my work online in this day and age i have no control over how people would take them. but at the VERY least i want my boundaries to be respected.

it also makes me uncomfortable when people tag my art as "fanart". its not fanart for anything. its ORIGINAL, it just happens to be arthurian. god forbid some cunt tags my stuff as BBC merlin too id seriously kill someone.

I feel so lucky to receive any of them, I just want the commenter to know how much I appreciate them <3<3 There has been at least one time when I was so overwhelmed with a lovely comment that I never responded because I just liked looking at it so much 🙈 but that person was also a friend of mine so I did express to them privately how much their comment meant to me

6. What's the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?

For published fic, definitely whistle stop. I have written a lot of other angsty stuff though that will never see the light of day </3

I feel like after a certain point, they're all kind of equally happy in their endings, but I guess live chat? I dont know though, I really dont tend to reread my fics

Not seriously. I've been part of a few projects where we were going to cowrite a fic together that never ended up getting finished and I've set up a document to cowrite a fic with a friend that we never did anything with :/ I'd love to co-write a fic though, I think it's so cool when people collaborate like that!

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic?

I think it's really cool when other people who are multilingual do it! I've dropped a word or two in when it felt right, but otherwise I personally stay away from writing it because I lack the knowledge to do it justice. I do sometimes make up languages for magic purposes, though!

First fandom I published fanfic for was Miraculous Ladybug!

furbbs was one of the first (if not the first) i saw skin an 05 and boom.

they are safe, but i cant pretend i do not miss their presence in this space. i hope to keep their incredible work alive through my photography!

This sweetie of theirs, too! In general, they did things with dye I STILL cannot comprehend. They'd done custom plush and fursuits before, so I suppose that's how they were so intuitive!

This "confetti baby" custom dyed snowball by them is still unbelievable to me. Genuinely amazing. (Credit)

Latte originally had a custom "furbucks" apron they made. He has a "scent pouch" inside that smells like hazelnut and coffee made from candle melts. (Credit)

aurora was originally a dalmatian furb and was dyed to my liking to look like a cloudy sky. he has so much detail on his eyelids that can't be seen right now as they got stuck open in transit. (Credit)

they even custom made the hair tuft aurora has :") its several fur panels sewed together as dye wasnt working. my heart... (credit)

obligatory mention to my boyfriend (@tiedyefurb)'s custom furby, prince, also made by them. the level of detail is insane

they bought a lot of suspiciously cheap furbies for my boyfriend because he dreamed of owning an angel furby and one was included. the overall price was $12/furby.

the furbies were full of dead bugs, even under their eyelids and in their robot parts. they had dead bug poop in them, they were... really gross.

out of love and perseverance, despite having intense toy empathy and the process being upsetting, furbbs cleaned them all thoroughly. me and my bf have 5 furbies from the lot, 3 customized by them

when i got chiffon, my sun bleached crystal baby, customed by them they let me make so many changes and i made them start over and add little details so many times. i wish id known how special the experience was in the moment

i... cant express how much furbbs means to me and how much joy their craft brings. i think most people probably dont know of them and the thought made me sad. so i wanted to remind people of my precious friend.

Alastor smiled, the youngest Vee was sipping coffee all alone. (Jacket a velvette, alastor friendship fic I randomly posted from my wips that idk what the original context was)

Zestial was having a chat with Rosie when his phone rang. (to be a dad, another carmine family fluff)

Skipping my soulmate au stuff cause I'm working on rewritting

Velvette hummed as she worked on some new designs in her office. (Internet alastor velvette friendship fic)

Zestial analyzed the video carefully. (salsa zestmilla/ carmine family fluff)

“Carmilla, will thou marry me? No, maybe, Carmilla mine dear, I wish to join you for eternity. No, that doth not work either,” Zestial paced around his office, a ring box in hand. (will you be our dad, zestmilla)

I definitely enjoy establishing who is in the scene, and cutting to action makes sense, I write very character focus. I guess I can give you guys some first lines from wips too.

1.The battle was intense. Zestial turned towards Carmilla and his blood went cold. (Amnesia, zestmilla fic)

2. Charlie shifted as she looked at her back. She finally got her wings. (working title uncle, a husk and charlie bonding I guess idk)

3. Carmilla stopped struggling under her husband’s boot. (no title yet, it would be a zestmilla, camilla pregnant in hell)

4. Charlie rocked back and forth on her feet as she waited for Carmilla's answer. (star shower, a carmilla former dominion, sera got her pregnant, daughters visit heaven for a festival word vomit)

5.“Don't worry, Peter, she's my guest today,” Ariana said. (second chance, this is Vaggie being reincarnated into being carmilla's youngest. I dont know how to describe it ok)

6. Zestial huffed as he slowly got off the ground. (this is the remake of my soulmate stuff)

7. Zestial hummed as he did his daily walk thru hell. (Workers, Zestial adopting clara and odette before their mother goes to hell)

(regret, ok, this one, if anyone wants to adopt it from me let me know and i can show you what i have, this was way back i wrote for the pilot and the idea was that when sinners get redeamed, they go back in time to when they first sinned and relive their lives. Angel, instead of sneaking out and loosing his virginity, decides to kill his father, who killed his mother, and then take Molly and runaway to the bayo and convince alastor to take them in.)

I also have a few, Rosie turns alastor into her son fics from before their episode came out. Charlie actually having her name in st.petter's book, a few different soulmate au's, one that might be the precursor to jacket, Alastor having a bad hair day, arranged marriage, and a zestmilla enemies to lovers.

Have you ever had a fic translated? i don't believe so but that would be cool!

Have you ever co-written a fic before? not really, i've thrown ideas around with people especially like with noirhawk stuff but it never really coalesced

What’s your all time favorite ship? i don't knowwwww. when i was a teenager the doctor/rose was literally so important to me and honestly i was surprised at how much i cried at doomsday upon rewatch. i possibly care more about the hawkeye/margaret friendship dynamic than i do about beejhawk

What’s a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will? ooh my idea for a mash tv show/movie crossover which i have some good dialogue written for and would love to be able to bring to fruition but i just dont think it's gonna happen

What are your writing strengths? i think dialogue for sure, and when it comes to fic in particular (like as opposed to my original writing) i think i'm good at character studies/keeping things very realistic and in character

What are your writing weaknesses? bc when i write as a hobby i write mostly plays, i sometimes catch myself writing prose like that, like just dialogue and what amounts to stage directions. i have to make myself think about when some internal monologue might be good, how to make things actually sound good instead of just being practical

Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic? you guys know i love to throw lots of yiddish in there. i wouldn't be able to write real dialogue in another language unless the character had an eighth grade level spanish education or was trying to say "the farmer is my friend" in latin

Favorite fic you’ve written? ough hard to choose. i have to shout out mind field bc i somehow haven't mentioned it yet and the experience of writing it was so surreal and was just genuinely me trying to convey how it had felt to be in my brain for a year or so through projecting onto hawkeye. and the fact that everyone liked it was bonus. BUT my actually favorite might be with friends like these, who needs enemies?, my hawkeye/margaret slow burn friendship fic and margaret deep dive. i want to make everyone read it and care about them as much as i do mwah

I’m so glad you liked what I sent in again for the Three Wishes part 2 (genie yandere)! I really like that I was able to help you cause your writing talent is way too good. (And as a fellow artist…I get what it’s like to be in a roadblock and the frustration that comes with it).

I actually really love reading more unusual or less well known fairy tales and mythology, so I could always send some more your way so you don’t have to do any research. (You can be lazy! Yay!) Though if you’re up for that, I think it’d be easier if I just messaged you privately instead of going back and forth with anon asks (if that’s comfortable with you of course).

I also like Reader’s “suffering” too in yandere stories. I always like stereotypical HEA, but my version of “suffering” is more so that the yandere wins (and Reader doesn’t die either or is heavily abused to the point where death is the better option. I hate where there is no heavy “dere” in yanderes, cause if it’s just “yan,” it’s just an abusive piece of shit).

That’s absolutely understandably about not wanting to focus on the Prince, I was just throwing it out there in case you wanted to make him a new important OC. And changing the Prince into a different profession also is perfectly fine. (Heck in the original story, pretty much the main reason the Prince was out and about was because he was scholarly-like. Having a deep and wide fascination with all the world had to offer. The dude really just wanted to go on an adventure and learn more).

(noodling?) Sunset, mostly. lots of background stuff like history, religions, culture... yeah.

Sunset? seven months. shit, its halfway through the year. White candy is about the same, and Frontline is like a month old WIP.

Do you remember what inspired them/what got you started?

For Sunset, I had a old WIP that i had way back when and i wasnt satisfied with the character or the story, or anything really. so I tore it down, scrapped it, and started a new one.

White Candy was just a kind of spontaneous, "hey, i want to write something i havent tried before".

Frontline stemmed from a odd Monday desire to write Sci-fi.

How much time, in your best estimation, do you spend thinking about them?

I think about Sunset all the time. Frontline and White Candy probably get like two hours a day, each.

A Fantasy action romance.

I'm actually not quite sure how to answer this question, but. the First OC I made was Enju(延珠, roughly translates to Lady Pearl or Delicate Pearl, depending on how you read it). She was the main character in my first WIP and she was a Mage and part of a party of six.
