ranking anime i’ve watched in 2023:
as expected, here’s this year’s top 10 for how much i personally enjoyed the anime i’ve watched this year. ive watched more than this, but god i watched so many bad ones…. even number 10 sucks but everything else was worse. sad!
as always thank u gifmakers for ur service 🫡 the world would be nothing without u all
10. the legendary hero is dead! (2023)
youtube
dont watch this show. it sucks and its bad. hey. come here. hold my hand. now lets just watch and enjoy the OP ok? don't worry about the rest.
9. my daughter left the nest and returned as an s-rank adventurer (2023)
i have to admit this show charmed me. its not the best thing ive ever seen but its nice. comfy. yknow? i haven't finished it but it's enjoyable. can't rank it higher until i finish it
8. sabikui bisco (2022)
Tumblr media
if it werent for the positively nonsensical jump in the middle of the show and the way theres just like. a lot of gaps? it’d rank higher. it’s a very cool premise for a show and i like the bisco/milo dynamic, and [SISTER] is fun as hell. it didnt wow me though overall, and while i enjoyed it i was hoping for more.
7. trigun stampede (2023)
Tumblr media
im sorry trigun stans i simply didnt love it. i see the appeal i really do but it just didnt hook me. i really liked the animation and the storyline. im intrigued by whatever the fuck is going on with those plants and yall have said theres a tallgirl in the next season? so i’ll keep watching. i just didnt love it
6. that time i got reincarnated as a slime (2019-2021)
Tumblr media
in contrast to #7, i can see why this show is weak HOWEVER i just enjoyed it. i like it. huge fan of how much gender the protag has. i love how they get new powers. i enjoy that it can be interpreted as an extremely bisexual show. it was well paced and the slime diaries OVA was a great addition. a lot of the characters really stuck with me too and its like. idk. one of my favourite isekais i guess
5. buddy daddies (2023)
Tumblr media
this should rank higher. its so fun. its SO fun. its silly and it doesnt take itself seriously. i laughed in every episode. the dynamic between the guys is great. the dynamics between them and the kid is great. just a really solid show if you can stand the queerbaiting. i dont even care
4. bocchi the rock! (2022)
Tumblr media
the bocchi side of tumblr is right this show rules. i like how real bocchi’s social anxiety feels (literally how it felt when i had it). the characters are entertaining, the show’s well done, they even have solid music (which band-based shows dont always do right!). its really funny and its really earnest and its a joy to watch
3. demon slayer: swordsmith village arc (2023)
Tumblr media
i included the entertainment district arc in last year’s list so this arc makes the cut. im always late getting around to watch the new stuff and i dont want to read the manga but god DAMN does this show hit different. incredible fight scenes. i loved everything they did for the hashira backstories. i love whatever the fuck is up with genya. it even gave me some akaza to sustain me for the next year or whatever. ik this show gets overhyped but its normal hyped. to me.
2. frieren: beyond journey's end (2023)
Tumblr media
oughhh frieren… ive only known this show for a few months but it means to much to me… i dont even wanna talk about it because its so good i just wanna watch it again. go watch frieren if you havent already its anime of the decade. to me
1. gundam: the witch from mercury (2022-2023)
Tumblr media
ive never seen a gundam before but i will be watched them after this! what can be said about it that hasnt already been said on this site. the romance storyline is impeccable, the fights are awesome, the moral questions it posed were excellently covered. by the end of the first episode i was speechless. by the end of the last episode i'd cried like 4 times over the course of the show. this thing made me cry to happy birthday. what the fuck

ok.
just watched episode one. here are my thoughts: (lots and lots of mythic quest season three spoilers ahead! don’t read if u haven’t watched)
1- so good to see dana again. missed her!
2- POPPY MY BELOVED. can already see the beginnings of like a whole self doubt imposter syndrome arc, super excited for what they do w that, especially as a fellow woman in like a stem field that sometimes feels like they don’t belong/don’t deserve what they’ve achieved!
3- brad. that’s it.
4- no jk. ok so the brad and david reunion had me reeling a little, not gonna lie. brad just looks so deeply sad, like the humble little nod he gives carol after she says he’s the new janitor…. ouch. i feel like after all the stressful shit that happened for him last season (and i’m choosing to believe there was an offscreen breakdown that happened that caused him to impulsively report himself to the police for something he DIDNT EVEN DO), prison finally gave him like. a break. and now he’s just trying to live normal again, trying to piece himself back together and restart his life and maybe learn a few things. and i just. it hurts so much. (i’m getting this all from like the three seconds he’s been on screen so far, so yes i’m insane). anyway very excited to see the rest of him in the episode
5- also david’s reaction was just so fucking funny. like the super villain way brad was already in his office and the way david turned and was like what the fuck.? LMAO. i love them so much. i’m also reading into this way more than i should. but happy their dynamic is back. and the way david is like looking for the worst scenario but it’s just brad being brad!
6- also the “what’s your angle? you have to have an angle. look at your body, it’s all angles!” ?????? like they are fucking with us. they addressed braddavid on questie besties and now they are fucking with us (and it’s working)
7- the brad jo tension makes me very sad. i hope they get to heal together.
8- also just occurred to me that david definitely does not know that jo is actually the one who did the insider trading. hope that maybe gets addressed and david can see brad in a new light kinda
9- i love you carol
10- “well your gut fucking sucks!” funniest line
11- “do not weep for me for i go to my rest as so few men do: content.” ouch.
12- the cw death hit me a little harder than i expected because he was never my favorite character but it’s still sad. i’ll be interested to see how it affects ian, as well as brad maybe since he’s trying to reform and i think for him that should mean getting closer to people, since he obviously never prioritized friendships before.
13- wish they had more of the like catch-up reunion scene. but apparently poppy and ian’s office is in the same building as mq lmaoo (if that’s what they were saying, i was a little confused but i’m also very tired) so i’m excited for antics!
overall good episode. i’m so fucking happy to see them again, i physically cannot wait until the rest comes out. andhjsbsbsb

Volume 9 Episode Ranking
As has been the trend for these last few volumes, I had a real hard time ranking each episode. V9 had a lot of elements I really truly loved so take this all with a grain of salt... Except for the Top Three. I’m fairly certain on those.
10) A Tale Involving a Tree - So I imagine this isn’t much of a surprise for anyone. While there were some very good moments in this episode, it also is the one that feels sort of incomplete. It’s the shortest chapter and it honestly shows. The stuff that is good in it does shine but this is the episode I had the most problems with. I understand it’s technically a part one but something has to be at the bottom here and it might as well be this one.
9) A Cat Most Curious - This episode has two very distinct parts and while I’ve grown an appreciation for the second half that I just was too distracted to enjoy the first time around, it still is a very disjointed episode. Though I love the meta humor with the Cat and I love the end confrontations with what essentially boils down to their past selves. This episode is fun but also very enlightening about where our girls are mentally.
8) A Place of Particular Concern - So most of this episode’s impact was kind of hampered by the fact that we’d already seen most of it before the season aired, but removing that from the discussion, this is a pretty decent premiere. It gets our girls back together, introduces Little and the Jabberwalker, and gives us a taste of the new setting we’ve found ourselves in.
7) The Parfait Predicament  - So this episode introduces a fun new locale that I honestly wish we could have seen a little more of. We get a small but fun action scene. That first scene with the Blacksmith is absolutely incredible. And that ending! Jaune, my boy, looking a little rough.
6) Rude, Red, and Royal - This episode really does showcase the animation particularly well. That shot where they go through the tower, and then the overall set design of the palace are feats we couldn’t have even dreamed of in V1-3. And that fight! A true highlight of the volume in general if I’m being completely honest.
5) Altercation at the Auspicious Auction - Okay, so.... Weiss is the best in this episode. Like, true MVP of the episode if I’m being completely and sincerely honest. Best comedic bits of the volume. But also the Auction itself is an interesting segment and leads into that wonderfully heartfelt eulogy Ruby gives for Penny. Lindsey kills that section and I love them for it.
4) The Perils of Paper Houses - One of the things we’d been waiting for finally happens and it is glorious. These kids, Ruby and Jaune specifically, have needed this moment for so long and finally, finally they get it. Both Miles and Lindsey give the performance of a lifetime here and it is stellar. The Paper Pleasers were adorable additions to this world, and I can never say no to a well choreographed fight scene with the Bees.
3) Tea Amidst Terrible Trouble - So. This episode. This episode man. What can I even truly say about this episode. This one sat with me for a long while, and I was too tense to even properly register it the first viewing. There’s truly not much for me to say other than I’ve never felt this much Dread watching this show. Just... Absolute dread.
2) Confessions Within Cumulonimbus Clouds - Genuinely could they make the titles any longer? That aside, man. What an episode. Mainly for that one big scene that was ten long years in the making. The Bees man. The frickin’ Bees. I’ve never seen a love confessions given so much tender love and care. It just makes me feel so happy, and giddy, even after watching it a million times. Don’t get me wrong, the rest of the episode is great, but there’s only one thing that I wanted to talk about when all was said and done and it made me so incredibly happy.
1) Of Solitude and Self - I’m not sure if it’s really a surprise that this managed to make my number one spot or not. As much as I adore the Bees, this episode really hit something inside me and even now thinking about it and typing this I’m just.... wow, man. Like, how can I possibly put my feelings for this episode into actual words and do it justice. Happiness. Relief. Victory. Joy. Pride. I felt it all. I felt so much watching this episode that I can’t even articulate it in a way that would make much sense. Or, if I could it would just be what I’ve said before. I love this show. I love this story. I love these characters. Ups and downs and all. This episode is everything I wanted and showcases the heart and soul of this series. So all I can say in the end really is Thank You CRWBY. Thank you so much.

1.) What did you do last Friday night? Do you have any plans for the upcoming Friday night? Watched a few news features on the Titanic wreck submarine; played Rhythm Hive because apparently the game went through a major overhaul and looks and plays completely differently now; and spent nearly the entire rest of the evening watching both old and new Smosh videos because Anthony coming back is the best news that could’ve come out this week. 2.) When does spring break start for you? We don’t have that concept here as we don’t even have that season here.
3.) Do you have anything planned for June so far? The eventful part of my June is over now; I’ve seen Yoongi, been to Thailand, been to Malaysia, walked 15,000 steps for two weeks straight...the only thing left to do is to reclaim my time at home and rest up.
4.) What is the weather like right now? It’s a little warm this morning but I’m not dying. One thing I picked up from my Thailand trip is to never fucking complain about Philippine weather ever again LOL – I thought it was humid enough here, but the moment I stepped out of Bangkok’s airport I was slapped in the face with air that was like, twice, thrice as heavy. The daily weather made the Philippines suddenly feel like Antarctica.
5.) What song are you listening to? I’m not listening to music and rarely do so when I take surveys because I end up getting distracted and never finishing any of these.
6.) Name all the people that you talked to today. Online, through texts and in person. Mom, dad, sister, the Grab rider who did my McDo delivery at around 1 AM earlier. Oh I also talked to a work-related person this morning, but fortunately I’m not leading the event so I just went on Viber to answer a question she had.
7.) Do you know anyone who self-harms? I really hope I don’t; but at this stage in mine and my loved ones’ lives it’s great to see everyone flourishing and happy and as far as I know, the people that I know who used to do it don’t anymore.
8.) If you have a science class, who did you last talk to in that class? I haven’t been in a classroom since pre-pandemic 2020.
9.) What did you eat for lunch today? I’m having leftover kimbap from two weeks ago! I was struggling to find food in the fridge so I opened every single Tupperware we had in there only to find out that nobody has touched the kimbap I got :)))) Feeling pretty giddy ngl, it’s my favorite Korean food hehe.
10.) If you were president, which one would you legalise first: abortion, gay marriage or marijuana? Not in the choices, but divorce. Then abortion, then gay marriage, then I don’t really care for marijuana.
11.) What are your parents’ names and what do they do for a living? My mom’s an admin secretary in a hotel and my dad’s an executive sous chef.
12.) Do you have any siblings? What are their names, age and grade they are in? Don’t you think you’re being a little too nosy? Anyway, one is 23 and is already working; the other is 20 and a freshman in college.
13.) Do you know a schizophrenic person? I don’t.
14.) Do you have a threewords.me account? I don’t think I’ve ever heard of that.
15.) Who were you last in a car with and where did you go? That was with Celeste and I was just taking her home because no driver was accepting her Grab booking.
16.) Aren’t you excited for the 4th season of Jersey Shore?! I was never an avid watcher. I watched a few episodes of the first season but I was 11 and immediately knew I wasn’t supposed to be watching something like it, lol.
17.) Did you ever watch Sailor Moon? If so, who is your favourite? No I don’t like anime.
18.) Have you seen the game show “Baggage”? Nope, haven’t heard of it.
19.) Name the last 3 people you kissed and list one nice thing about each one. I’ve only kissed one person but as for a nice thing about her, uh... she’s nice to her sisters? Idk.
20.) Have you ever had cranberry vodka? No. Sounds nasty.
21.) When was the last time you felt EXTREMELY depressed? Why is that? I go through low periods quite regularly, but if you wanna go with EXTREME depression then I’d have to take you back to late 2020 to early 2021. They were terrible days but I do fondly look back on that period as the moments before BTS dragged and hurled me into their world.
22.) Don’t you just want to move out of your parents’ home already? It’d be cool if I do but I’m not in a rush. The average pay here makes it impossible to have your own place in your 20s to early 30s anyway.
23.) Are you friends with a Conner? No, that’s an extremely foreign-sounding name where I’m from. The only Conners you’ll ever find here would be tourists.
24.) Would you ever dye your hair pink? Nah.
25.) Who was the last person to kiss your forehead? No clue.

13.) Do you know a schizophrenic person? I once thought someone I knew possibly was schizophrenic. Obviously I’m no doctor and they never saw one, so I have no idea for sure, it’s just a strong feeling I had.
14.) Do you have a threewords.me account? I don’t even know what that is.
15.) Who were you last in a car with and where did you go? My mom and the transport dude.

18.) Have you seen the game show “Baggage”? I don’t think so.

21.) When was the last time you felt EXTREMELY depressed? Why is that? That’s a constant struggle for me.

23.) Are you friends with a Conner? Nope.
24.) Would you ever dye your hair pink? I like the red too much.
25.) Who was the last person to kiss your forehead? I have no idea.

I spent quite some time yesterday yelling about Star Trek with the wonderful @regionalpancake and @curator-on-ao3, and I need to share their comedic genius with the world!
We were talking about how, if the Zhat Vash are so extremely opposed to synthetic life and any form of AI, could they possibly manage to hack the androids on Mars and to cause them to go rogue? To which Curator commented:
“I’m an iPhone user and I couldn’t hack an android!”
This was followed some time later by a discussion about how in recent Trek, there has been an increasing distinction between People Who Matter and Those Who Don’t. And how its encumbent upon the people who are less significant for the fate of the world to sacrifice themselves for the Important People.
With regards to this, Pancakes observed of Rose (from Dr Who), a character who thinks she is unimportant and whom the Doctor tells that There Are No Unimportant People:
“If she were a Star Trek character, Rose would have been cannon fodder.”
Curator: “You mean... canon fodder? :D”
I don’t know if these are funny to anyone but me, but I laughed so hard I had to go find my asthma spray. So I needed to share XD

Holo-Tech Database
Over the last seven or so months, I have watched through every episode of Star Trek: The Next Generation. It’s the first time I’ve seen the entire series, there were quite a few episodes in the later seasons I’d never seen before. Quite an enjoyable experience on the whole.
But because I’m me, of course I didn’t just watch TNG. Instead, I took notes every single time the holodeck or any other piece of holo-technology played a part in the plot, were the setting for even the briefest of scenes, or so much as got mentioned. Essentially, I’m building towards a database of every little scrap of canonical information about holo-technology that I can get my hand on. And this was a start.
I haven’t had the time or energy to look through all of my notes in detail. There is a lot of information in there already. Of course, I’ll only be able to draw any real conclusions once I add in all the data from DS9, Voyager, and PIC, (since I’m interested in the state of technology at the time La Sirena is in operation, because of course that’s what this is about), but it’ll be quite a while before I get there.
So, in lieu of any detailed analysis, here are some quick impressions of my first foray into holo-episode-tracking!
Tumblr media
[Image ID: a table showing the number of total holo-episodes for TNG is 58, and breaking that number down for each season. Season 1 has 10 episodes, season 2 has 8, season 3 has 6, season 4 has 9, season 5 and 6 both have 8, and season 7 has 9 episodes. /end ID]

30 Days of Picard Postivity
With just over 30 days to go, the premiere of Star Trek: Picard season 2 (3rd March in the US, 4th March internationally) is fast approaching, and I for one cannot wait to get back into the world I fell in love with two years ago. Thirty days is quite some time, however, and even though new trailers and promo pics seem to be dropping daily, I felt like we could use something to tide us over until March.
After the long hiatus, I think this is the perfect time to revisit all the things we enjoyed about season 1. I’m sure I’m not the only one who has forgotten a lot of the details of those episodes, and who would love to see some of the wonderful characters, locations, and stories back on my dash. So, without further ado:

Massive Picard Season 2 Spoilers Ahead
So the latest episode of The Ready Room, the Star Trek recap show hosted by Wil Wheaton, had a preview of Season 2 of Star Trek: Picard. It's interviews with all of the main actors and they explain in some detail where they're characters are at at the beginning of season 2.
It puts a lot of shots from the trailers in perspective and I have a lot of thoughts that I want to share, but because this is a very, very explicit spoilery preview, I'm putting both the video and my initial reaction under the cut.
Anyone in the US (or with a decent VPN): You can find the full Ready Room episode on the Paramount+ youtube page, but I'm not going to link it here, because, youk know, tumblr 😋

My #1 post of 2022
I just had a realization about why Agnes Jurati’s story in Star Trek: Picard season 2 feels so wrong to me, and I am going to inflict it on all of you!
Spoilers for the entirety of season 2 ahead! CW: Mention of depression, PTSD, anxiety, and emotional manipulation
Also: CW long post
(NB: I’m going to completely disregard the discrepancy in Agnes’s character between seasons 1 and 2. I think when you take Agnes’s story and development from the first season into account, her “arc” in season 2 falls apart completely. But for the sake of this argument, I’m going to meet the season 2 writers on their terms. I’m going to ignore the character of season 1 Agnes, and instead will simply look at season 2′s Jurati to explain why I think the story the writers gave her falls flat.)
I was taking notes for a way-too-long essay about my problems with PIC season 2 (which I may or may not write eventually), and I was trying to put into words why it always irks me when people say merging with the Borg Queen was a satisfying end to Jurati’s arc.
What I was never able to put my finger on until now is that when the Borg Queen and Jurati merge at the end of episode 9, that’s not actually the culmination of Jurati’s arc. It’s the Queen’s.

So last week I found myself in bed with the plague and I realised I had seen maybe one Batman movie in my life, so a week and a half later and here are my thoughts.
Batman reviews:
Batman; the old one with the joker.
Felt very long, Vicky Vale was very irritating, Batman/Bruce Wayne was good but not in the movie very much. Did not like the joker. Very amusing because of oldness. 4/10
Batman returns; the one with animal themed villains.
Very Tim Burton, better than the first one but still felt too long. The penguin was disgusting, sherck(was that his name?) was weird, and catwoman was good 80% of the time and very weird the rest.  6/10
Batman; the one with the riddler and two face.
Very fast, colourful and funny. Definitely an improvement on the first two. The villains were the best bit, everyone else was boring or annoying. Robin should have been younger, around 12 not 20.
7/10
Batman and Robin; the worst one, but not by much.
Not as bad as I expected but definitely not good. Wow Robin is annoying, and batman is just, there, looking like he doesn't care about anything. The villains were entertaining, but not enough to save the movie. Oh and Alfred's niece was also there.
4/10
Batman begins; the one with LIAM NEESON
Finally an actually good movie. I don't have much to say, it was a good movie. I do think batman should be smarter, he should invent his own stuff not find it all already existing in an old garage. And the villains plan had allot of holes in it.
9/10
The Dark Knight; the one you have definitely heard quoted even if you don't realise it came from a Batman movie.
Overrated. Definitely good, but not fun enough, all the other movies have been fun and this one is just grim. I understand why people like this movie but it is exactly the type of film I avoid watching. (ie. Dark, gritty and about "society" and "humanity" )
8/10
The Dark Knight rises; the one with Bane.
Batman retired!? Batman shouldn't retire he should be Batman until he dies! or is replaced. This movie was more fun so it gets points for that. I think the twist where Talia (was that her name? I'm not looking it up) was evil was a good twist (as in it made sense and wasn't just "aha! Out of nowhere she is evil now" )
8/10
Batman vs Superman; Zzzzzzzzzzzz
Boring.
So incredibly boring.
And Superman should smile more I thought he was supposed to be the opposite of batman. 5/10
The Batman; the best one.
Beautiful cinematography, I was never bored. Actual detectiveing. Good characters, as in I believed they were real people and I want to know what happens to them. Very visually interesting action. And a good mystery. 10/10
The lego Batman
Very funny, I have watched this before but now I get the references and that just makes it funnier. 9/10
The animated one where Robin dies and then becomes a villain,
This was so much better than I expected. The intro was chilling, the story was good and the end was sad. I don't think it would have worked in liveaction but I am biased towards animation to start with. 8/10
Titans; the TV show you forgot existed if you knew about it in the first place.
Not good but I can't stop watching it, also not really a Batman thing but Bruce Wayne was in a few episodes so I am counting it.
I watched the first season 2 years ago, and I stopped because it was depressing. Now I am watching it but (deliberately) not caring what happens to the characters and its a lot more fun. 5/10 although I haven't finished it yet so it might get worse.

BL ~ Drama Asks
I was tagged by @pharawee. Thank you!! 🌺
1. If you had to watch one drama forever what would it be?
I don't rewatch dramas a lot. Usually, I really love something while I'm watching it and it means a lot to me in that period of time. But when I try to rewatch a drama months or years later, it often feels really awkward and I hardly ever finish them. So most of my favourite dramas occupy a special place in my heart, but I'm reluctant to rewatch them. (+ There are always so many new dramas that I want to try and that are waiting for me to fall in love with them! XD) That said, if I had to choose one, right now I'd pick Kinnporsche. It's a combination of different genres, so I'd be able to enjoy lot's of different emotions. Additionally, there's just so much to love in Kp, lot's of awesome themes, intense moments and lovable characters. I actually want to rewatch Kp right now, because there still are so many things I want to try making, that I didn't get around to before... but I'm still in my procrastination period. lol
2. If you could change the ending of a drama which one would it be?
Well, Kp ended most recently and we might not get a season 2, so... I'd want to see a different ending for Kim and Chay. I mean, if we actually get a season 2 I'd love to see them find their way back to each other (while also getting to see more of angry/feral Kim & rebellious Chay), but if this is the overall ending, it feels a little cruel to have both of them be in so much pain. (Not to mention that no one even knows they were a thing?? I need them all to spend time together and for Porsche to kick Kim's ass a bit for hurting Chay.) And, of course, "History is only written by the victor" .... ???? Well, well, well, wellll..... I need some conclusion to Korn's messed up games.
3. Name your favorite drama and tell who your favorite character was.
I'm so bad at choosing favourites. But, uhhh, Kinnporsche (Porsche, Kim, Vegas); I told Sunset about you & I promised you the Moon (Teh, Oh-aew); Not Me (Yok).
4. Name a drama you dropped within the first few episodes ~ we all have at least one!
As I said earlier, I love trying out new dramas. But that also means I end up dropping a lot of them. Of the ones airing right now, I dropped Unforgotten Night, Check Out (I enjoyed Ep 0, but I couldn't even get through the first episode 😞) & Even Sun (just last week; it has Boun & Prem and such a beautiful setting, but I noticed I wasn't really paying attention anymore, so I let it go).
5. Name a popular drama you've never watched and why?
Hmm, The Untamed & Advance Bravely. I don't know why? I've seen them around a lot and I feel like I should've at least tried them when they were airing, but somehow I didn't and still haven't.
6. Name a drama you regret watching.
I usually drop them before I have too many regrets. But there were a few really popular ones that I continued watching, simply because I kept seeing so many gifs of them, only to still feel kind of meh about them at the end. >_<
7. Name a drama you thought you’d never watch but did and did you end up liking it?
The only one I can think of that might fit this question is 3 Will Be Free. It wasn't really on my mind before, but since I was in the mood for something a little darker, I remembered gifsets of this drama and wanted to give it a try. I've seen two episodes so far and am still interested!
8. Name a pairing you want to see?
Ohhh, as long as it has one actor I like, I'd already be super happy. But hmmm, maybe Mond Tanutchai & Gun Atthaphan (since we never got Gramblack and I like their bickering friendship); Jeff Satur & anyone that's not a baby.... Jeff Satur & action scenes... no wait, where am I going with this...
9. Name a pairing you didn’t think had chemistry?
Nat Natasitt & Max Kornthas in the few episodes of Cutie Pie that I've seen.
10. Name a pairing you have seen in another drama that you like?
??? I'm interpreting this as: a pairing I've seen in a drama that I haven't (fully) watched? Yim Pharinyakorn & Tutor Koraphat (also Cutie Pie). I liked them enough to look up their clips on yt after I dropped Cp.

100 Baby Challenge
A few weeks ago I came across a Tik Tok live of this girl playing Sims 4 and she was playing the 100 baby challenge. Watching her, and hearing some of the rules explained a little more, I decided to give it a try. I’ve been talking about doing this for years and I just never started it but seeing it was the push I needed I guess.
Goal/Point -  Have 100 babies in as few generations as possible Rules-
1. All babies must have a different father 2. The matriarch cannot work outside of the home. (I have mine a painter) 3. The matriarch is the only one allowed to care for the babies 4. Cannot hire a nanny, babysitter or chef 5. Cannot use the cheat tool for money (as a painter I’ve gotten the household up to almost fifteen thousand simoleons)  6. Babies can be aged up to toddler when it’s their birthday 7. Toddlers can be aged up to child when they’ve reached level 3 in every skill 8. Children can be aged up to teen once they’re an A student 9. Teens can work outside of the home to bring in extra income. They can also help out with helping toddlers increase their skills. 10. Teens can be aged up to adult once they’re an A student. 11. Once an adult move them out to continue having babies (since you can only have 8 characters in a house) 12. Once the matriarch is no longer able to have children the eldest daughter in the house becomes the next matriarch. 13. The previous matriarch is to stay in the house until she passes. 14. The matriarch cannot get married or have a father move into the house while she is the matriarch. Once she’s an elder she can get married if she wants.  15. Pets are allowed but will take up a space in the house 16. All traits are to be selected randomly when the kid ages up
I’ve been the one playing but I’ve been taking input on names from people around me. Ryker picked the first name for the first matriarch and then I used the random tool for the last name. I meant to make this post way before now and then keep posting updates but I got really into it and I’m already several children in. Maybe I’ll do an update post once a week or something after this or I’ll make a birth announcement each time. Here’s a list of who’s in the game so far and where there names came from.
The children are being named in alphabetical order. Twins have the same letter name. Also note that technically it doesn’t count towards the count until a baby ages up to young adult.
Current totals-
Babies Born: 11                       Adults Moved Out: 5
Matriarch 1 - Veda Hale
I’ve always loved the name Veda from the movie My Girl so when Ryker suggested it, saying it was the name of his classmate, I had to jump on it.
Hale came up in the random tool and I picked it because one of my favorite actresses is Lucy Hale. My late husband, James, his last name was Haley and when we got our kitten I named her Lucy Hale Haley. Felt like the right fit.
Baby 1 - Aubrey Hale
I think I used the random tool with this looking for an A name and when this came up Ryker, Caidance and I agreed we liked it. She was valedictorian when she graduated high school. She is an adult and moved out of the house.
Baby 2 - Autumn Hale
Caidance and I were pleasantly surprised to see that the first pregnancy was twins. Originally I was going to do every baby a different letter but we were so shocked at the twins that when Caidance said Autumn I was just thinking how cute that went with her twin Aubrey. So this is what started my rule of twins have the same letter. She graduated with honors. She is an adult and moved out of the house.
Baby 3 - Brynn Hale
Her name was almost Bria but at the last minute I said Brynn and Caidance liked that better. I’ve loved this name since the Real World: Las Vegas season back in 2002 I believe it was. She graduated with honors. She’s an adult and moved out of the house. As soon as she moved she had a cardiac episode from being very enraged and she died. The grim reaper showed up and since I’m moving all the kids in together when I can Aubrey went and pleaded with the Grim Reaper and to my surprise he let Brynn live. So she is still alive.
Baby 4 - Caleb Hale
We finally had a boy! This is one of my all time favorite boy names. I had read it in a book when I was a child. I can’t remember which book but it was a horror story and I’m pretty sure it was based in Providence. I’ll look into it and see if I can find it. It was also in one of my favorite Lifetime movies Fifteen and Pregnant from 1998. I saw that movie again recently. Cringeworthy, but still good classic Lifetime. He was valedictorian which I was really shocked about. He’s an adult and moved out of the house.
Baby 5 - Clara Hale
Another set of twins! I needed a name that went with Caleb. Clara was the last companion of the Doctor on Doctor who where I left off originally. I’ve been rewatching the show lately. At the end of Doctor 10, watching the movies before season 5 started with Doctor 11. Still have a ways to go before Clara comes on but I love the name. She graduated with honors. I thought she would be the valedictorian but since Caleb aged up first maybe he got it first? Or maybe because she’s a kleptomaniac and kept stealing stuff at school she wasn’t worthy. She is an adult and moved out of the house.
Baby 6 - Delia Hale
This name is very special to me. When my first niece Cordelia was born I had said I wanted to call her Delia, I was gonna be the only person to do so, however, the name never fit her. She’s Cordy. As I mentioned above I love Lucy Hale, I play her in a rolelpay group and she has a baby named Cordelia Drew (Cordelia after my niece and Drew after Lucy’s friend who died in real life) and we call her Delia. She is currently a teen.
Baby 7 - Evelyn Hale
I went back and forth on different E names and her name was almost Eloise after the middle name of my niece Gianna but then Caidance said Evelyn and I decided to choose that since it was her great grandmothers name. I actually knew Evelyn before Renae. She is a currently a child.
Baby 8 - Finnley Hale
I was really hoping for a girl but it ended up being a boy. After searching a baby name site this was the only decent name I could live with right now. He is currently a toddler but is almost ready to age up to child.
Baby 9 - Georgia Hale
G names are hard and ugly. I went with the first name that popped into my head. She just became a toddler so she has a little while to go before she can age up.
Baby 10 - Houston Hale
I was also really hoping for a girl here. I had girl names picked out. Almost chose Hudson but I thought Houston would be cuter.  He was just born so is a baby.
Baby 11- Hugo Hale
TWIN BOYS WHAT!? Caleb was the only boy for so long and then Finnley came and then Houston and when this came up as a twin boy I was excited to be expanding the men in this family but another boy H name that goes with Houston? Now I could have used Hudson, that probably would have made more sense but I’ve been watching True Blood again and in season 2 there’s a human named Hugo so that was on my mind. He was just born and is still a baby.
Open to names for future babies. Send in suggestions if you have them.

A List of Shows I’ve Watched So Far This Year
...and a couple of sentences about each one.  Also some movies and podcasts, too.
I started keeping a list around the time the entertainment outlets started publishing their “Best of 2021″ lists near the end of the year so I would be sure to catch some good TV since I wasn’t sure what to watch half the time.  So this list is partially from those lists, partially stuff I found in other ways like via tumblr gifsets on my dash, some things I stumbled upon, had already been watching, and some just because I was subscribed to whatever service a show was on and thought “Hm that looks interesting.”
Tried keeping track of movies and podcasts, too. Gonna do video games in a different post.  Currently I have 34 shows on my “To Watch / Catch up on” list, and always adding more.
This is in no particular order at all.
Taskmaster (& rewatched a lot of it.) - OK I immediately lied.  I moved this to the top because I honestly believe everyone should watch Taskmaster.  It is the most joyful thing I’ve ever watched, I love it so, so much.  Everyone I have convinced to watch the show has loved it.  It curbs anxiety, it always always always makes me laugh, and there’s a lot of it to watch.
Taskmaster is a British... panel/game show, sort of, where five comedians/entertainers are at the whims of the Taskmaster (Greg Davis) and his assistant (Alex Horne, who is the true genius behind the show) and do ABSOLUTELY ABSURD tasks to earn his approval.  The same cast stays for an entire season (early on 5 or 6 episodes, then 8, now 10.)  Greg scores their efforts, and at the end of the season, the winner takes home... a bust of Greg’s head.  Mostly bragging rights and a spot on the Champion of Champions special that happens after every 5th season.
I cannot express how much I love Taskmaster. You can just watch most of it for free on Youtube.  Series 1 Episode 1 is a fine place to start, or maybe try season 4 for people you likely already know.  Anyway, that’s the sales pitch.  Everything else is just my opinions.  Watch Taskmaster, unless you hate fun and don’t need a distraction right now?
I started watching it near the end of last year, and then synced up with @ahab99 and we watched the rest of it together.  It’s been one of my favorite things to do this year, and the fandom is great.  My favorite seasons are 4, 5, 7, 9, 12 and 13, but I love them ALL.
Kongen Befaler (Taskmaster Norway) S1 & 2 - I love Taskmaster so much I started watching the Norwegien version, which is slow going because I have to be in the right mind to watch something with subtitles, but the Norwegian version is very nearly as good as the original.  Highly recommend it if you’ve finished with the original.  I haven’t yet gotten to the New Zealand version yet because I’m waiting for ahab99 to be ready, but I know it’s also considered to be great.
The Great S1 & 2 - Speaking of great... watched this as it was on Alan Sepinwall’s best of 2021, and I trust him about quality of things most of the time.  Enjoyed The Great a lot, not one of my favorite things of the year, but thought the leads were very good and also Sacha Dhawan was a nice surprise.  It’s got a lot more grossout humor than you were probably expecting. But I’ll watch S3.
Halt and Catch Fire S1-4 - I’d watched S1 and the first half of S2 when it was airing, then fell behind, and my DVR broke, and I never caught back up.  But Sepinwall had mentioned it somewhere in a review I read recently and put it back on the list.  It’s a show that got stronger every season.  S1 was really trying way too hard to be Mad Men But In the 80′s And About Tech, once they figured out the characters in S2, toned down Lee Pace’s character and made the “mousey wife” not so mousey, it got amazing.  Loved it so much.
Station Eleven - The first few eps aired last year, and I watched it in real time, but the last three aired this year.  This is one of the best things I watched not only this year but... ever.  A story of love and hope after a world-ending pandemic.  You would think “I don’t need a pandemic story right now” but yeah, you need this story.  One of the most satisfying moments I’ve experienced in fiction near the end of the series, too.  So good.  Highly rec.  This also means Mackenzie Davis was one of the leads of... the last two things I talked about and she deserves all the awards.
Hacks S1 & 2 - I love Jean Smart and had been meaning to get around to this one for awhile, so I got to it like a few weeks before S2 aired.  Really funny and powerful story of two women in different generations who were there when they needed it the most.  A definite rec.
Starstruck S1 & 2 - I watched this not only because Sepinwall recommended it, but because it was created by & stars Rose Matafeo, who is on series 9 of Taskmaster and who I adore because of it.  Really funny,  great story, a little frustrating, but well worth it.
Our Flag Means Death (3 times) - Thanks to tumblr for all the gifsets, and finding out Guz Khan (who is in S12 of Taskmaster) is in this show, I gave in and watched it.  I didn’t watch it the first time til the week after it ended, but then I signed up for HBO Max to support the show and watched it three times in one month.  Loved it.  Can’t wait for S2.
Severance - Came for Adam Scott, stayed for holy shit what is going on here why do I have to wait week to week for more?  I NEED ANSWERS NOW.  Creepy, bleak, and very, very intriguing.  Am on the edge of my seat for season 2.  Another one of the best things I’ve seen this year/in awhile.
The Expanse (Some in 2021, some in 2022) - One of those shows I’d been meaning to get into for a long time and I knew if I could stick with it eventually I’d love it. I had tried the first episode a couple of times over the last few years and didn’t like it but... I was determined this time and stuck with it.  I have LOVED Shohreh Aghdashloo for a long time and she got me to stick around.  I honestly didn’t love the show until season 2 or so, but at some point I was all in, and was sad when I finished, though a couple of the seasons were weaker than others for sure, and learning the circumstances behind the removal of one of the main characters, who was another of my favorites, put a small damper on it.  But I’m glad I finished it.  Someone make a S7. :(
Upload S2 - Watched S1 and thought it was decent, S2 was... definitely affected by the Pandemic filming.  It was OK, but not great.  The season finale especially seemed cut off too soon.  But I’ll keep watching.
Doctor Who Specials (New Year’s special and The Sea Devils) - New Years special was great, other one was okay. It’s nice that they’re addressing 13/Yaz.  Even though, ya know, it’s almost regeneration time.  There’s a lot about the 13 era I have liked, but also a lot of wasted potential.  And I’m not a fan of the Timeless Child thing... have seen few who are, though.
I also rewatched the Husbands of River Song because the Taskmaster himself, Greg Davis, plays King Hydroflax in this episode.
Critical Role S3 + Calamity - Been keeping up with Critical Role still, though sometimes I fall behind a week or two.  I have been enjoying S3 a lot, probably more than I enjoyed the first arc of S2.  Having Ashley back full time is great, and I like the new characters.  Been staying far, far away from the fandom and the drama, though.
Calamity was amazing.  I know I posted a thing about maybe not watching but I did because of how everyone was talking about it, and it was everything people said it was.  I cried through most of the finale.  Thanks to @thequeenofmyownscreen for crying with me. :)
I have very much wanted to get into Dimension 20 since before Calamity and really want to now, but have yet to find the time.
Breaking Bad Rewatch (Just season 2.5 to the end) - After watching the first half of S6 of Better Call Saul, and hearing the second half is going to have more relevance to Breaking Bad, I went back and re-watched BB from the first Saul episode to the end, since I hadn’t seen it since it aired. For like the S2 and some of the S3 part I was fast forwarding through a lot of like, Hank & Marie scenes or parts that were a lot of people staring at each other, but after awhile I just settled in and re-enjoyed the ride.  Worth it.
Better Call Saul S6 - As noted above, have been keeping up with BCS the whole time.  Love it.  Can’t wait to see how it ends.  DON’T KILL KIM WEXLER, PLEASE SHOW.
(BBC) Ghosts S1 - 3 - Three of the main characters have been contestants on Taskmaster (Charlotte Richie - S11, Lolly Adofope - S4 and Katy Wix - S9) plus at least two guest stars (Jessica Knappet - S7, Bridget Christie - S13.)  So after learning this plus seeing some gifsets on my tumblr dash and seeing it was on HBO Max, I watched.  Really enjoyed it, highly recommend.
(CBS) Ghosts - While looking up info for BBC Ghosts, I saw CBS had brought the show to America.  I thought “Well, let’s see how bad they fucked this up” and dove in, intending to watch just the first episode or three.  I finished the (currently only, S2 is incoming) season in like a day and a half.  They did a good job making both the living married couple and the ghosts American, retaining some flavor of the BBC version without it being a direct ripoff aside from the pilot and one ghost being a near carbon copy of the British counterpart.  I think they did a good job making it their own.  The Brit version is probably still better, but I don’t regret watching both and will watch the next seasons of both, too.
(New) Kids in the Hall - I was in High School when the Kids in the Hall was originally airing on Comedy Central here in the US, and things like “I’m Crushing Your Head” were as cool as Wayne’s World quotes.  Wasn’t sure what to expect about the revival but I really loved it, a lot.  Be warned if you watch it there is old man full frontal in uh, the first episode, lol.  But seriously, it was great.  And I’m flabbergasted and mad that it wasn’t nominated for an Emmy.
Only Murders in the Building S2 - I think S1 aired last year?  Watching S2 now.  What a delight this show is.  As an Old, I grew up loving Steve Martin and Martin Short and they’re amazing here.  I had no idea who Selena Gomez is before this show, and now I adore her.  Enjoying S2 a lot.
For All Mankind S3 - I think I watched S1 & S2 at the end of last year, and except for that mindbogglingly terrible subplot at the end of the 2nd season, I really loved it.  S3 has been likewise great so far.  Even though the stupid subplot continues into S3.  I’m a Margot and a Dani stan.
Mare of Easttown - When this was airing last year it felt like everyone was talking about it and how great it was, so I got around to watching it.  It was, indeed, very good, with a resolution that was surprising but didn’t feel like came out of nowhere.  Also more Jean Smart = good.
The White Lotus - I mean, I have HBO Max right now and this is another show people kept talking about when it was airing, so I watched it.  Eehhh, it was okay.   It was a good takedown of white people at their most white-people-ness.  Don’t think it deserves the Emmy love it’s getting except for the guy who played the hotel manager.
The Umbrella Academy S3 - I keep up with TUA when it’s on, and enjoy it. Enjoyed S3 as well.  Not as much as S2 but hey, enough to look forward to S4.  Mostly glad this season Luther got over Allison, but Allison this season was uh... not great.
Stranger Things S4 - Just like most everyone else, watched ST4 and I did love it, though the criticisms of it is pretty valid, too.  NGL, got pretty bored with the Eleven subplot in the first half and fast forwarded through it as I thought it was very obvious Henry = Vecna and it felt like otherwise we were rehashing a lot of other stuff.  And the Russian Prison subplot could have been cut way down, too.  But still, love Stranger Things.  Can’t wait for S5.
Murderville - Will Arnett’s improv / cop comedy.  Swung WILDLY in quality depending on who the guest of the week was.  They were right to put Conan first and Kumail Nanjiani last so it started and ended on its strongest episodes.  I adore Annie Murphy but it was uncomfortable watching her stumble through her episode.  But I finished it and would watch a S2.
Resident Alien S2 - I think S1 was stronger so far, but still loving this show, and Alan Tudyk is great, so is his co-lead Sara Tomko.  Could do with less Mayor and Mayor’s Wife who’s character’s names I can never ever remember, and more of everyone else.
Barry S2 & 3 - I watched S1 as it aired and never got around to picking up S2 or 3 until a few weeks ago.  It’s very good, and very violent.  Can’t believe they’re still gonna do a S4 after that S3 ending.
The Flight Attendant S1(ish) - I watched the first episode and thought... I am not into this enough to watch the rest of the season but I do want to know how it ends.  So I skipped right over to the last two episodes.  Maybe I’ll do the same with S2.
Gentleman Jack - Was interested in this from tumblr gifsets.  Literally watched the first episode and a couple of hours later the cancellation was announced, lol.  Overall, I enjoyed it but I hope Suranne Jones’ back is OK because she carried this show for all sixteen episodes.  Anything focused on Anne Lister was great.  But they could not write a subplot of side characters to SAVE A LIFE.  The cast was great, (I mean they had Five himself Peter Davison!) with what they were given.  But so many subplots either were messy, boring or went nowhere and were dropped without resolution.  Still glad I watched it but... it feels like only Lister/Walker ever found its footing and everything else was... not there.  I’d have kept watching, but not super upset it’s likely not going to happen.
Star Wars
Book of Boba Fett - I think I liked this series more than most when it was focusing on Boba Fett but also like... the criticism was fair.  And yeah it felt more like a sub-show of The Mandalorian rather than its own thing in the end.  It was quite cool seeing the whole gang, minus Cobb, fighting together in the finale.  And also uh, this may be blasphemous, but I am slightly disappointed they brought Grogu back?  I think they are victims to their own success if they don’t think the show can survive without Grogu, whereas I was kinda looking forward to Mando on his own.  But I’ll enjoy Mando S3 either way, I think.
Even this review of BoBF became a review of The Mandalorian. *facepalm*
Obi-Wan Kenobi - Yeah it was messy blah blah but I really really loved Obi-Wan.  We’d been waiting for Obi’s return forever and I think they did a great job making the show emotionally resonate.  It was so great seeing Hayden back, too.  And it also adds a little more emotional weight to ANH how too, with Obi-Wan having a relationship with Leia.
Star Trek
I watched all the Star Treks. Yesterday was the first NON-STAR TREK Thursday of this ENTIRE YEAR and I AM MAD ABOUT IT.  Luckily Lower Decks S3 starts next month.
Prodigy S1.0 - There’s still more Prodigy S1 coming, but I am enjoying this show more than I thought I would, grading on the “It’s for children!” curve.  NGL I am most invested in the Real Janeway & Chakotay stuff but the kids and Holo-Janeway are also great.  Excited for more.  And the Kobiyashi Maru episode was a fave, as well as the 1.0 finale.
(Rewatch) Picard S1 & then Picard S2 - I forgot most of what had happened in S1 so I rewatched it.  I like it more than most people did, but I mean... there’s like no Star Trek I don’t like.  S2 started strong, and I liked the ending, and a lot of what they did in the middle stumbled with some great moments and a few not so great.  There were definite parts of S2 that... didn’t work.  But it was also fun.  Plus my Teenage Dream Crush (lol) showed up, which was a huge plus for me.  And uhm... I am absolutely feral about what’s going to happen in S3.
Discovery S4 - I think Discovery had gotten stronger every season, and I again, have enjoyed every season.  I do definitely agree I wish every season wasn’t universe-ending threats, and the bridge crew doesn’t get enough to do, but I mean... that doesn’t at all ruin my enjoyment of the show. I thought the universe-ending threat was at least new and original this year.
Strange New Worlds S1 - Ummm... yeah.  It’s great.  I’m mad about how great it is.  It’s not my favorite of the New Treks (Lower Decks is probably my fave) but I do get why so many people say this is their favorite.  REMEMBER THOUGH... we wouldn’t have this Pike, Spock and Una without Discovery S2.
--
MST3K
Mystery Science Theater 3000 S13 + Specials - I Kickstarted MST3k season 13 for uhhhh... more than I probably should have.  I am really loving Season 13 so far.  Jonah is great as always, I already adore Emily and her bots, and having Joel back in the riffing seat with J. Elvis by his side mashed the nostalgia button so hard.  All the episodes have been hilarious, though some are more faves than others, but that’s normal.  Really enjoying the “special events” too.  Having something to do like, every other Friday by appointment has been nice, too.  The chat is very friendly and actually funny.  Ready to support them for as much as I can when S14 talk comes around.
The Mads Are Back - MST3k-related, Frank Coniff and Trace Belaiu have been doing monthly riffing livestreams since July 2020 and I’ve been to them all.  So another monthly Tuesday night appointment.  They also do a guest interview after each, which has been delightful.  Was a big help early in the Pandemic to have another monthly “appointment” to look forward to, and I’m glad they’re keep on keeping on with the livestreams especially since Frank’s health problems.  And I love that nearly all the old cast plus some of the new MST3k cast has come and hung out in the post-show with them. <3
Along with that, just rando, MST3K and Rifftrax episodes whenever I feel like it, often as white noise when I’m gaming or working.
--
Trashy Realtiy TV - I make no apologies.  I don’t watch a lot of reality TV but I have watched these.
The Circle S4 - I just lilke the Circle, OK? Love is Blind S2 - It’s a dose of drama that I usually avoid. 70% of Love is Blind Japan S1 - Wanted to see the differences. I watched the pods and vacation part, skipped most of the “We’re back at our real lives!” episodes and just went and saw who made it to the altar and who said I do.
JUST STARTED:
The Other Two - Haven’t finished yet, but just wrapped up S1.  A Sepinwall rec I wouldn’t have checked out otherwise.  The Entertainment Industry Takedown stuff is kinda funny but nothing we haven’t seen before.  What has made this show work so far is that yeah the mom + adult kids are very dysfunctional on their own but they love each other and their little brother a lot and that glue makes the show worth it for me.
Blood and Treasure S2 - I would not watch this show most likely but Mark Gagliardi is one of the main stars (probably #3 on the call sheet I’d guess) and when a guy you kinda know is on TV, you usually wanna watch that guy being on TV.  It’s a fun cheesy National Treasure like romp.  This season was filmed in 2020 and JUST NOW BEING RELEASED and only on Paramount+ so we’re probably not gonna get more.  The first two episodes released just this week so, we’ll see how the rest of the season goes.  Mark’s character has his own subplot this season though so I’m excited for that.
Movies
TBH I don’t watch a lot of movies?  There’s too many shows to watch.  But I have watched these in the last 6 months...
Everything Everywhere All At Once - Everyone was talking about it so I wanted to experience it.  As amazing as everyone said.  I still think about it often. And get Absolutely Story of a Girl stuck in my head.
The Batman - Not a huge Batman fan, (like it’s FINE but whatever) but wanted to see Pattison’s take on it.  Thought the movie was a little too long, and I came away with no strong feelings other than Pattison and Dano were both very good, and was excited to see Izzy Hands and Irving from Severance in the movie :v
Star Trek The Motion Picture - I’ve seen this like a half dozen times, and am always amazed at how many reaction shots of the cast’s face they padded the film with.  Wanted to see the new enhanced visuals and cut.  At least what they were gazing at for 15 minutes of the film’s runtime looked great.  I need to finish rewatching the rest of the TOS movies.  I’ve been saying that since I finished my All-ST Rewatch in 2020.  SO I guess I didn’t actually FINISH that rewatch.  Hm.
The Lost City - I truly don’t know why I watched this movie but I had finished whatever show I had been watching and didn’t want to start a new one yet so I watched this for no reason.  Cast was good, movie was cheesy but also fun in a Romancing the Stone sort of way. Not great, but fun.  Daniel Radcliffe makes a great villain.
Suicide Squad - I’m... trying... to watch the DC movies.  I’ve only seen the two Wonder Woman movies, Batman vs.Superman and that first Superman movie, all when they came out.  I’ve heard the second one and the Peacemaker show are great though so I’m trying to shove my way through the rest to that.  Do I have to watch the Snyder cut?  Anyway, this was fine, but felt like it was trying way too hard to be cool. Was entertaining at least.
Podcasts
I haven’t been listening to a lot of podcasts lately, tbh.  Mostly I listen in the last hour before bed when I’m playing on my Switch and hanging out with Patchy.
The Taskmaster Podcast and Taskmaster: The People's Podcast - Yep been listening to the companion podcasts to Taskmater, too.  The original TM podcast is hosted by Series 9 contestant Ed Gamble and it’s fantastic because he’s SUCH a fan of the show, and he’s a great interviewer.  It’s a recap podcast, of the current episode if a series is airing or past series when one’s not.
The People’s Podcast is hosted by S8 contestant Lou Saunders + a guy who’s a fan (and a writer) who keeps meticulous stats of the show.  Though there’s a bit of episode discussion it’s mostly a celebration of the fandom.  Episodes are a bit more hit or miss depending on who the fan-guest is, but it’s a good effort and usually still entertaining.  Especially loved them interviewing Norwegian Taskmaster Assistant Olli Wermskog <3
Hello From the Magic Tavern S4 + Patreon Bonus Content - I’ve been a fan of HFTMT since about episode 24 (When Craig Cackowski guest starred.)  Through the years sometimes I’ve kept up, sometimes I’ve fallen months behind, but I have listened to it all, including the spinoff podcasts and signed up for the pateron on day 1.  Still love these guys after all these years.  If you want to listen to three guys and guests worldbuild a silly magical world, here you go.  There’s like 400 episodes including spinoffs and Patreon content, you won’t run out any time soon.
The Delta Flyers - Technically as I’m a Pateron patron I watch the episodes online, not listen to them as a podcast.  This is Robert Duncan McNeil (Tom Paris) and Garrett Wang (Harry Kim’s) Voyager rewatch podcast, that they started as a pandemic project, and they’re now in season five.  I really enjoy their takes, even when I don’t agree with them, and there’s so much BTS content.  Also the bonus content includes really great interviews with the rest of the cast pretty often, guest stars, directors, writers, crew, producers etc etc.  I pledge at a mid-teir level now and don’t regret it at all.  I usually watch while working, and sometimes I get a few episodes behind.  And also sometimes I have to rewatch the Voyager episode before listening to the podcast episode.  But very worth it.  Going to miss this one when they’re done.
The “To Watch / Catch up On” list: Counterpart You're the Worst Miracle Workers Zoey's Extradordinary Playlist Pen15 Derry Girls In Treatment We Are Lady Parts Girls 5eva Squid Game Succession Reservation Dogs Evil I May Destroy You Love Life Shadow and Bone Yellowjackets New Girl Wheel of Time Lovecraft Country Atlanta Watchmen Tuca and Bertie Sharp Objects Devs Yellowstone Gaslit Abbot Elementary Shining Girls The Orville
Catchup: Cobra Kai Downton Abbey (last season or two + movies) Rutherford Falls S2
I am taking suggestions.
And then there are a bunch of upcoming shows or shows with seasons that aired in like 2021 that I haven’t mentioned here to watch like, the Lord of the Rings show, and S2 of Leverage: Redemption not currently on this list that I will watch as they come out.
No idea how someone with an actual life squeezes in more show time.  I’m still like 90% in quarantine still (thx immune system) so... at least I’ve got the time.

hi! i just wanted to say that I’m really enjoying your top 10 set and I’m (nervously 👀) looking forward to seeing the last two , but I wanted to know what your top 10 episodes were? They’re all so good it’s so hard to choose!
thank you anon! it's been a lot of fun, and there were definitely a few surprises on that list. as for my own top ten, it's a little hard. my top five is pretty easy, but here we go:
1. in the unlikely event of an emergency - i hold this episode so close to my heart and consider it one of the most beautiful episodes of television I’ve ever seen. gwyn is undoubtedly one of my favorite characters on the show, and tk's experience losing her so suddenly and dealing with that subsequent grief hits very close to home. i'm going to cherish this episode for a very long time.
2. push - what is there to say about push that hasn't already been said? it's a perfect cap to the first arc of the season, and was my favorite episode of lone star up until 3.08. it's just beautiful all around, and my only complaint is that this is the only episode we got with andrea this season. i miss mama reyes.
3. saving grace - i love me some judd and grace, and this episode by far is one of the most magnificent. heart eyes all around, tommy leveling judd in the past and in the present, pushing him to say introduce himself to grace, the three of them and charles (who i miss dearly) being a family, and the 126 coming together to support judd in the hospital. never not crying.
4. riddle of the sphynx - i think this one is pretty self explanatory. we have carlos learning to take a step back while tk takes a step forward in his sobriety, carlos learning what it means to be in love with an addict, hard conversations, and a moment of, once again, reassurance that tarlos is endgame. shout out to wes from the icarly reboot who played cooper and made me scream when he first appeared on screen.
5. bad call - i mean obviously the first carlos-centric episode has to be on the list! every single bit of this episode was perfection; we got our first glimpse at detective reyes, learned a little more about his realtionship with gabriel, the first instance of tnt being badasses (and also absolutely fucking done with these kidnappers), and, of course, "hi baby, hi baby."
6. the big heat - alexa, play fever by elvis presley. i mean. i mean. clearly. on my first watch i was being thrown back and forth on who was on whose side, which is probably what the writers wanted, and ultimately did not expect raymond to be the culprit or gabriel and owen to team up like they did. so many twists and turns, so much yelling, our first on screen "i love you." and, of course, that ending when tommy gets home. oof.
7. red vs blue - nostalgia ep, my beloved! despite the fact that i have a v small, v playful, grudge with tk/ronen choosing #2 for his jersey in honor of derek jeter because i'm a mets fan, this episode makes me wish i was still playing softball. all of the 126 is competitive, we knew that from catan, but my god was this a whole other level. and then there's nailed it nancy followed immediately by the phone call that had every single person screaming at the screen in shock. man, oh man. 8. displaced - the first instance of paramedic siblings being paramedic siblings as well as the first time the 126 really made nancy she part of the group. that tribute to tim was everything. (re: let's continue to have episode 7 of every season feature something for nancy, thanks! but maybe not episode 8 be where we hurt tk). we also had owen and gwyn sincerely breaking my heart in this episode because they just love each other so deeply at the end of the day, along with, if i'm correct, the first instance where owen actually showcased his anger. also, that mri scene. damn, tk. 9. a bright and cloudless morning - don't yell at me for how low on the list this is, but classics took over! this was, hands down, lone star's best season finale. it was epic all around, and i'm so happy everyone wound up ok. i was genuinely nervous for wyatt and judd there for a while. the prominence of owen's grief and guilt with 9/11, gwyn coming to him just like she came to tk when he needed her, the sequence of the 126 getting owen out of the rubble as he saw faces of the 252 and nypd. i had chills the entire time, and especially during that shot of paul and tommy passing owen's helmet down the line. that, for some reason, gets me more than anything else. and of course — the proposal. i've watched it too many times to count, honestly, and i'll keep doing it for the continuation of the hiatus.
10. prince albert in a can - give me all the carlos and grace teamwork! this is what we needed! carlos boxing to up in here by dmx made me scream, sure, because wow, but watching these two team up and figure out what went down on a call they were both so clearly blaming themselves for was incredible. and ask literally anyone, i jumped up and down and screamed "there she is, there's mom!" the second athena was on screen. god's plan, bitch.
honorable mention to hold the line, in which this was the first time i met the 118. i watched the episode again during my first og watch and it felt like i was visiting the 126 with them. such a great episode, i don't care what anyone says. get those crews back together!

oh my goodness it's been SO COLD here i've basically been wearing gloves alllll day. it's been minus 8 / minus 10 :( this is why i disappeared for a few days :( ALSOOO I LOVE YOUR THEME </3
yes, that's the right term <3 thank you so much, my lovely 🥰 i hope you have been doing so so well 💎
(your secret is safe with me) i think i'm switching between taehyun and beomgyu :( taehyun has PINK hair and i— (internally crying) i think it's definitely a lot better now which is good to see 🥰
YOU ARE MAGICAL ✨️ prentiss is also a favourite of mine (i am not in love with her i swear 🤭) we're now on season 9 and I WANT EMILY BACK :(( he's also a genius, i wish i was that smart sometimes 😂 i have honestly never seen one episode of glee, i've seen clips but no eps. i wanted to watch it but i just never did :/ i rarely watch fmvs now........ thank you so much 🥰 we're about to continue watching it! there's something sneaky going on with jj and their new section chief and i don't like it one bit 👀
thank you! they're going okay 🥰 i've started making the gifts 🤫 i have an entire free day this sunday so will hopefully have all of them finished and ready to post aaaaaa 😍 i really hope you like it !! oh no, i won't stop, i promise. i think sometimes with mental health, i can find things a little too hard which is why i take a couple of days to reply although this week was genuinely bc it's been so cold and little me has poor circulation in her hands and feet :(( had to wear fluffy gloves to stay warm :(
I DO!! MY TWO BABIES 🥰 i will give them cuddles from you <3333 ah i can't wait to show you photos 🥰
I HOPE YOU HAD A WONDERFUL DAY 🥰 thank you for the slice of cake!! i will enjoy it with a cup of tea 🥰
have you been watching anything recently? i've watched wednesday....... four times now. i love it. i'm obsessed 😭
not too long now til you find out!! 🥰 it's so hard to just not follow you already!!!! 😡 fighting the urge >.<
—svt secret santa 🎅🎁🎄
YAY! BESTIE IS BACK <3 I must admit that I've missed you soooooooooo much. I was wondering how you were doing :) Oh no no nonono :( It isn't as cold where I live here but I still caught the flu 🤢 (or idk how the doctor called it because I was so tired and in my bubble that I have no idea what he talked about) but don't worry, I'm feeling a lot better now thanks to the medicine woohoo! and i wish i had a tip to give for cold hands and feet but i suffer from it as well </3 i try to wear as many layers of clothes as possible and hope for the best :(
thank you for noticing the change of theme and for the compliment <3 it means a lot because i do spend a lot more time than I'd like to admit searching for the right pictures/colours 💔 the struggle is real :/ it's almost palpable
i feel you, so much! even though i bias yeonjun, taehyun & beomgyu are like this close to taking his place (well, not really but they hold a special place in my heart) 💟 yes, taehyun's pink hair is such a good look on him. just like soobin's blonde hair. i thought i wouldn't like it because i prefer blonde hair on gg members more than bgs but i was surprised o: he really does pull it off! sorry, sometimes i pretend i'm a hairstylist when i find an idol with a hairstyle/colour i like 💕
When you said you were on season 9, I was like ALREADY?! but then i remember that in one night you can finish half a season to a season depending on how much time you have. oh and i forgot you started watching the show a few months ago so it's not like you started it last week (that would have been impressive, but a little worrying hehe) i've watched, i think only the first two seasons of glee because it appeared on tv and i wanted to know what the show was about but then i dropped it because it became too much too fast. but i kind of like sue's character. wouldn't know how to explain it but she added a nice touch to the show. but then the character became repetitive :/ that's a pity because you can do so much with the villain of a show :(
okay okay your secret is safe with me 🤫 i won't spoil the surprise for your other secret santees(?) if that word doesn't exist, i just created it and it has now the meaning that it is the person who will receive a gift from their secret santa. i should probably shut up atp i feel i've scared you away 💔 anyway i can't wait to finally know who you are, but at the same time, i don't want this to end :( it was always such a great feeling to see you in my inbox and getting to know you and your lovely cats (that i still haven't seen, a crime btw </3 tumblr just allow sending pictures on anon 😡)
OH? YOU TOO ARE A DRINKING TEA WITH CAKE ENJOYER? 🥰 I've always felt like I was the only one doing this o: If you want another slice, i can send it to you whenever you want let me know *wink wink*
I don't remember the tumblr post but like the mutuals' hyperfixations are such a joy to watch 💗 It's like sitting with your friend and listening to them get excited over things they enjoy 💖 as for me, i've been wanting to watch summer strike for a while now because it seems like the kind of drama that I'd enjoy but I have the attention span of a goldfish (and that is an insult to the entire species because i can't focus for too long) but i will watch it, one day! hopefully?
this is making me a little bit emotional 😭 talking to you through this event felt like making a friend in a new city where you knew nobody :( it was a real pleasure to speak about so many topics with you and i wanted to thank you for making this conversation flow so easily. i know you mentioned being anxious and awkward but it didn't feel like it to me, even at the beginning of this event 💓 on top of that you had to juggle with the other two events and your job and for that, i'll give you a round of applause 👏👏👏 oh and don't worry about the gift. even if you send it at the end of the month or you're a little late. take your time and enjoy as much as you can with your family and friends and don't push yourself too hard at work, ok? 💞

11x15 Musings
1.  It’s really hot when Daryl says “fuck.”
2.  I really dig Princess and Mercer.  They’re my second favorite ship.  The pillow talk was cute, and I love how he opened up to her at the end and how she kissed his hand.
3.  Carol and Zeke are definitely over.  Even Zeke called her his friend.  And she made sure to echo that by telling him they are never getting back together.  Nicely played, Kang.  As much as I’ve judged your decisions the past 2 years, that was well-played.  Now we just need a last reiteration that it’s not like that between Connie and Daryl, for those of the audience that aren’t paying attention.
4.  Aunt Carol with the kids taking the kids to school was cute.  Makes me wonder if this is a normal arrangement.  Carol and Daryl in constant communication about who’s taking care of the kids.  Daryl’s working, so Carol drops them off on her way to work?  Domestic AF.  Also, notice how Ezekiel is just Ezekiel and not Uncle Ezekiel.  Carol is Aunt Carol, but Ezekiel is just Ezekiel, further showing the breakdown on that relationship.  The kids clearly like Ezekiel and are comfortable with him, but he’s not Uncle Zeke.  He’s just Ezekiel.
5.  Lance Hornsby is so unhinged I expect him to open his mouth like a python at any moment and devour someone.
6.  I got palpitations watching Daryl turn his gun on the Commonwealth Soldiers when Elijah had Lance pinned against the wall.  That, followed by him saying “before something really fucking bad happens” had me all aflutter.
7.  Of fucking course Lance wants to offer Leah a job.  I wouldn’t be at all surprised if he’s the one to put a bullet in her head at this point.  Why do I think she’s getting a MSF death.  Not that I want her death to have that much meaning.  I do want her to be gone already.  Nothing about her last appearance has shown she’s able to be redeemed at this point. It’s time to put down the rabid animal like Mercer put down his two men.  I just hope Lance also gets a brutal death, because that man gives me the creeps.
8.  I like Tomi.  Really like him.  In his very few  appearances, he’s shown more personality than Yumiko has since the beginning of her arc.  Speaking of Yumiko, where is she?  Like really?  She’s been shown in what, one episode for a couple of minutes this entire leg of the season? Not that I’m complaining, mind you.  Tomi is far more interesting and has far more personality than his sister.
9.  Connie looked cute.  I like her style.  But I feel like the writers don’t know what to do with Connie and Kelly anymore. I feel like they’re just being moved around like two pieces of a puzzle.  If it wasn’t for Angel Theory’s charm, it would feel like Kelly was literally there just to be a interpreter between her sister and others.  I felt like Kelly was starting to come into her own while Connie was gone, and now that Connie is back she exists only as an interpreter.
10.  Carol is gorgeous.  And I was a little turned on watching her assist with that surgery.
11.  As much as I don’t really care about Maggie at this point, I went into protective mama bear mode over little Hershel.  Lance Hornsby is a scum bag, and I will be eating popcorn and drinking champagne when his ass finally gets what’s coming to him.
I feel like this episode was just a little step closer to canon.  Carol was vague about what was on her mind, but I can’t help but think while she and Zeke were sitting there talking that she was thinking about what SHE wanted to do with her time left.  Zeke has found a passion for helping people this way.  Now she needs to find something for her.  They are moving on from each other.  I think Carol was thinking about Daryl, thinking about what she wants out of life, and that’s Daryl.  Maybe I’m watching with shipper goggles, but I can’t help but think it’s on her mind, especially this close to the end.
Caryl on, loves.  <3

My Top 10 Animaniacs Characters
I've already ranked the characters in a few tier lists, but after the release of season 2 I've changed my mind about a few characters in terms of ranking order, plus I just wanted to gush about my favs!
(Just a heads up...this is gonna be a long one.)
10-Julia
Julia 100% would be higher if she were in more than 2 episodes as of the time of writing, but she isn't so she lacks the depth others on the list have.
She was already sweet in her debut, but what ultimately got her here is how she stole the show in "Reichenbrain Falls". She went from being kind, considerate, hardworking yet somewhat reserved to being an over-enthusiastic, crazy genius out for revenge.
Tumblr media
Honestly, I believe that she wants to take over the world not necessarily because she's interested in ruling the world, but more because of sunk-cost fallacy (she was really close to succeeding before Brain tried to mind-control her, plus her exact words were "...because I deserve to rule the world!") and because it would be the perfect way to get revenge on Brain.
What helps her stay likeable is that her wanting revenge is justified, what Brain did to her was wrong.
She's also really funny to watch-she's kind of like Brain and Pinky combined (Brain's intelligence with Pinky's insanity), and serves as a lasting consequence of Brain's actions. Whatever him and Pinky get up to is usually swept under the rug by the end of an episode as they return to the lab for tomorrow night, but not this time.
I'm glad they're not implying she still has feelings for Brain or that he might have feelings for her (so far, at least...please keep it up). Enemies to Lovers (or is it Lovers to Enemies to Lovers in this case?) has been done really badly in...certain franchises recently so I'm glad they're not doing that here.
Plus, Julia’s leitmotif is an inverted version of the Pinky and the Brain theme song-that's just cool!
9-Dr Scratchansniff
Up next is Scratchy!
What I like about Dr Scratchansniff is that due to his heavy accent, he could've easily been made a weirdo and have his whole character be "haha foreigners and their funny sounding accents, aren't they weird?" it was the 90's, they probably could've gotten away with it. Instead (thankfully) in most episodes the opposite is true. He's usually the straight man to other character's antics, be it the Warners, Mr Plotz, etc.
He also has a really nice "arc" (I use that term loosely) about warming up to the Warners. He goes from wanting to avoid them as much as possible (he even threatened to turn them into stew in The Monkey Song), to actually getting along with them pretty well, to essentially becoming their dad. I think it's sweet! Most people point to "I'm Mad" being the moment that established his "dad status" by taking the Warners to a Circus, but what sold it for me was actually the segment "Fake", where the Warners agree to come with Scratchy to a wrestling match, even though they know it's fake and didn't want to be there. He didn't force them, they agreed to go seemingly just to make him happy. I can't imagine the Warners purposefully choosing not to have fun for anyone other than someone they considered family.
Although season 4 and 5 of the original show kind of ruin it (their dynamic in "Anchors Awarners" is extremely simplified and then in season 5 the Warners barely interact with Scratchy)...but let's not talk about that, look at Scratchy tuck the Warners into bed!
Tumblr media
Adorable!
8-Rita
She's not talked about all that much, but Rita actually has some depth to her character. Not to mention her segments had a lot of heart.
In "When Rita met Runt" we find out she was made cynical and world-weary due to neglect. She tries to tell herself she hates humans and just wants their food, but deep down she really just wants a good home with a loving owner. She tries to be independent and not get attached to Runt at first, but she does anyway and by "Puttin' on the Blitz" she proves to be fiercely loyal (and tough too) by giving up her chance for that loving home to save Runt.
Tumblr media
At end of the day she really just craves love and affection, it's the main reason she considers raising the kittens in "Smitten with Kittens", even though she knows she can barely feed herself and Runt, let alone three more people. Her segments in the original probably had the most amount of heartfelt moments between them out of any other character's segments, which helps her character stand out amongst the more comedic members of the cast. The only downside of this is that due to her character being taken more seriously than most on the show, she's not all that funny. Not unfunny, but after her first episode (with snarky lines like "Get a kid lady") I can't recall that many times she made me laugh. Which is fine, but it IS a comedy show after all.
And she obviously has a phenomenal singing voice thanks to Bernadette Peters!
7-Nora
Nora was funny enough in season 1, but she didn't get much screen time. Her personality was established well enough-she was condescending, stern, and selfish, but she wasn't all that fleshed out, beyond being a sort of foil to the Warners. She's no-nonsense whereas they always mess about. What really got her on this list was how she was fleshed out in season 2. At first I did prefer Plotz, but season 2 has developed Nora to the point where I think she has more depth as a character than Plotz does. He's a fun character but was kinda just bossy, mean and greedy, that's about it-his season 2 cameo was fun though. We learn that Nora overcompensates for her lack of parenting skills by buying her daughter whatever she wants. She has also shown more signs of being short-tempered, having more fits of rage than last season. We also find out why she's so competitive and obsessed with success, because of her family, mainly her great grandmother Flora Dora. Her sisters belittle her, her great grandmother not only is a very successful business woman but also constantly organizes competitions at family gatherings, it's no wonder she's a firm believer in "pulling up the ladder behind her". She seems to want to live up to her great grandmother's legacy, she does seem to genuinely look up to her. Plotz was motivated mostly by making money, whereas Nora only seems interested in money as proof of her status and how successful she is, not necessarily due to greed, otherwise she wouldn't spend millions on her daughter. This may even explain why she is very concerned about being in shape (almost every time they cut to her in her office she's exercising).
Tumblr media
She doesn't just want to be successful (or at least, her idea of being successful) she needs people to know it just by looking at her.
Overall, I like the direction they took with her character and I can't wait to see more from her.
6-Wakko
Surprised? I do like Wakko, but not as much as most of the fandom it seems.
He does stand out amongst the Warners though, being less reliant on witty dialogue and more on visual gags and slapstick.
One aspect of his character that I like that I don't see many people talk about is that he's a bit of a tinkerer. Moments that come to mind are when he "fixed" the garage remote in "Garage Sale of the Century", when he built a huge contraption just to use a whoopie cushion, and even one moment in the reboot where he microwaved a TV remote because he thought it would give it magical powers in "Animani-yet". I wonder if season 2 of the reboot establishing that he likes video games is meant to be acknowledgment of his interest in tech.
I like that all the Warners are supposed to be maniacs yet he's known as the "crazy one", which a lot of his gimmicks make pretty clear (his gag bag, saying made up words like "faboo", a weird obsession with Don Knotts, acts more animalistic than the other two Warners-often acting like a dog and is often seen letting his tongue hang out, etc).
I do like Wakko but to me he's more likeable than he is...funny? I dunno, he's not unfunny but he doesn't make me laugh as much as the next five do. Not to mention isn't that complex either, which is fine, I mean all Animaniacs characters aren't that complex to be honest, but Wakko more so than others.
Not to say that he's one-note, because he's not. In addition to being the insane "eating stuff guy", he's also naïve, optimistic, sincere (if not just straight up blunt at times), and kind-hearted, even though he can be emotionally volatile. There's no doubt in my mind the show wouldn't be the same without him.
5-Slappy
She may be ranked 5th highest, but if we're talking purely on a comedic standpoint Slappy's probably one of the funniest characters in the franchise. Part of the reason why is because...well...she's awful.
She's lazy. She's cranky. She's vindictive. She's bitter. She's violent and borderline sadistic. She's also aware of all that and doesn't wish to change.
She's where a lot of the show's cynical edge to its humour comes from. What helps is that for all her flaws, it's not like she actively tries to cause trouble. She just wants to be left alone most of the time. But, like what often happens to the Warners, someone just has to swoop in and act like a jerk. And when someone tries to mess with Slappy, she holds nothing back. It's almost admirable...almost.
Remember when she bombed a critic's house because he didn't find her funny (and expressed disappointment when she found out he WASN'T inside his house when she did)? Or when she threatened to blow up a jury (of biased wolves, to be fair) unless they voted her not-guilty on a crime she technically did commit...and then blew them up anyway?
Again, she's no role model. She does what she does because she thinks it's funny-and it is!
Although I do like the scene in "The Sound of Warners" that shows that whilst the Warners only use force against people who deliberately wronged them, Slappy will just bomb anyone who she finds annoying, whether they meant it or not. Stuff like that makes her bond with Skippy all the more adorable, because you know how mean she can be to almost everyone else. Yet she genuinely does a pretty good job raising Skippy. They get along pretty much all the time, she does her best to keep him happy (in "Bumbie's Mom" she flew across the country in a plane just so he'd stop crying over a movie, for example), she even tries to teach him lessons sometimes-although sometimes regrets it because it makes her "sound like an after school special".
She's a veteran toon who knows every trick in the book, often deconstructing gags and can beat her foes without breaking a sweat-now that's comedy!
4-Brain
Slappy has the edge when it come to comedy, but Brain is a bit more complex in terms of character and still makes me laugh. Slappy is funny but ultimately is a simple character.
Whilst Brain is very monotone in the early episodes, overtime he develops to become a lot more expressive, megalomaniacal, grouchy and sympathetic.
I admire his perseverance-the guy never gives up. He doesn't let the fact that he is a tiny lab mouse stop him from trying to take over the world, despite the fact that he has failed over and over again. Now, is this a good goal to have? No. Are his methods always morally sound? No. But you just can't help but root for him. Even though a lot of his plans are ridiculous, and even though Pinky tends to get blamed for them going wrong (and admittedly a lot of the time it is his fault) Brains screws up his own plans just as much. But I kinda like that? Brain's smart but he's not necessarily wise, if you get what I mean.
Brain's been given multiple backstories, but each one reveals he basically only wants to take over the world because he feels unsafe and fears not being in control for fear of it leading to him getting hurt. They also seem to have affected how willing he is to be open about his feelings or his affection for others (mainly Pinky). He tries to gain control of the world as a way of seeking comfort over what happened to him, be it him being taken from his home or being experimented on the the point where it physically damaged his tail. He also seems to genuinely believe he'd make the world a better place.
Then there's his bond with Pinky, which is..."complicated"? He does insult and bop him, but we know at this point he does consider him his best friend, he just struggles with being open about it. There have been multiple times when it seemed like he might lose Pinky forever, and each time he gets upset about it, sometimes to the point of crying. Not to mention he always makes sure his plans involve Pinky in some way, when he could probably come up with a plan that he could do completely by himself if he really wanted to.
The segment Future Brain even shows that he literally trusts Pinky more than he trusts himself. That's actually really sweet.
3-Pinky
I genuinely think Pinky is probably the nicest character on the show (although let's be honest, the bar isn't...all that high) considering he never really wants to fight or hurt anyone. He just wants to get along with everybody. In fact it's the main reason reason I ranked him higher than Brain. Not to blame Brain for being world-weary; given his trauma I get why he resorts to doing some of the things he does, but I just think Pinky's acts of kindness are touching. The usually emotionally constipated Brain even said once that Pinky is "pure of heart"...before insulting his intelligence(or I guess lack thereof), but still.
His endless loyalty and love for Brain is so endearing. His tendency to put Brain's wants above his own, like when he dedicated what was supposed to be his Christmas list to asking for something Brain wants, because he knows how much it means to Brain, or when he pushed aside his own birthday (the ONE day of the year he gets to call the shots) just so Brain could focus on taking over the world, is somewhat admirable but also kind of sad. In a good way.
Not that he lacks agency or his own wants/priorities. He's shown interest in make up, fashion, cooking, cheese (of course), whatever the latest most popular genre of music is (be it country or pop), etc. I think him spending so much time watching TV is what led to him being very interested in pop culture, and that in turn has led to him being more of a people person than Brain (which I guess isn't too hard to achieve). Pinky tends to get along with strangers quite well and very quickly most of the time, which has come in handy for a lot of Brain's plans.
Also, thanks to the "Are you pondering what I'm pondering?" gag, he gets really bizarre dialogue a lot of the time, so bizarre you can't help but laugh. Not to mention the times he just resorts to saying made up words.
Another reason Pinky is so high is because right out the gate he proved to be an entertaining character. Brain took a while to become an engaging character, but Pinky always had fun quirks, even before his later developments. We find out pretty soon he's a TV addict, has a funny British accent, is cheerful, spontaneously yells made up words , and is really, REALLY stupid. Slappy excels at comedy, but Brain has more depth as a character, and Pinky is a good middle ground between those two things.
2-Dot
Can I talk about her design first? She is the cute one after all. I appreciate that, unlike a lot of female character designs for animals (particularly older designs, from the 1920's all the way to the 90's), she's not just the main male lead turned pink or with a bow on-for example, she has no whiskers, unlike Yakko or Wakko (those aren't whiskers, that's her hair). She also isn't unnecessarily given human anatomy or human-looking hair. She isn't permanently given eyelashes to make it obvious that she's a girl-she's only drawn with eyelashes when she's purposely trying to look cute for the camera, as seen below. Otherwise she'll just have dot eyes, just like her brothers. This post will give you a better idea of what I mean.
Tumblr media
In fact she probably has the best design of the Warners. Not only is she, well...CUTE, her pink skirt and flower help her look feminine and stylish, but without over-doing it with the cuteness by giving her a more covered up/conservative (conservative as in traditional, not in a political context) look . Her brothers' designs don't really say anything about their personalities (if you didn't know who Yakko and Wakko were, what about their designs would indicate that Yakko likes to talk? Or that Wakko likes to eat?) Her outfit is also the best homage to classic characters from the 1920's/30's.
Tumblr media
Yakko would be more accurate if he was wearing shorts, and Wakko's backwards cap screams the 90's.
Fun fact! Dot's original concept art design kinda resembles Minnie's modern look (although given when it was drawn, this was of course unintentional)
Tumblr media
Now on to her personality, Dot has a lot of good dialogue, although some lines make me laugh specifically because of Tress Macneille's delivery. Dot often uses cuteness to get out of danger or to give foes a false sense of security, so it's all the more surprising when she roars at them or bludgeons them with a mace. It's sneaky and it's cool to see how she takes what many might see as a weakness (being small and dainty) and make it her strength.
And given that she was created in the 90's, I appreciate that she's actually allowed to be witty and funny and wacky and isn't just eye candy or the damsel in distress, or the love interest (although since she's the little sister this was a given), or the no nonsense one. She has a very fleshed out personality. She's acerbic, short-tempered, extremely confident in herself, competitive, violent, and LOVES getting attention. Obviously she's not the first good animated female character, but legitimately well written animated female leads who didn't have sexist tropes tied to their characters were rarer back in the day.
Whilst I do applaud the original series for how it handled Dot's cuteness, I do like how the reboot has shown how she can stand out amongst the Warners beyond being the "cute one". Let's be honest, in the original series her other defining traits were taken to the extreme by one of her brothers; her brothers got to be the best at multiple things whilst she only got one main thing (Honestly I also personally think the original series kinda underutilised her in general compared to her brothers). Yeah she was smart but Yakko was the smartest. Yeah she could be violent but Wakko was more destructive. So what was left for Dot to be the best at? Being cute...and that's about it. So it's great to see that in the reboot many episodes have emphasized that she does excel in at least one other area beyond being cute-determination. Segments like Rug of War, Warner's Ark, The Warner's Vault, Suffragette City, etc really show off her spunk and how passionate she can be, even more so than her brothers.
1-Yakko
No change here, Yakko's still my favourite! He has a lot of traits I find entertaining; he's a wise-guy, a know it all, a good big brother, crafty, and actually pretty laid back when not purposefully playing up the zaniness. His snarky remarks are always great, they always seem to save the best dialogue for him. I like that the reboot emphasized just how much he likes to sing. He always did, all the Warners do, but Yakko in particular seems almost obsessed with it. It makes sense, he is the one who yaks, plus it makes for a funny running gag.
He also tends to try and turn things into a comedy bit. He's shocked about a new revelation? He grabs a drink just so he can do a spit take. They lack a map? He pretends to have one and claims it's improv. He's definitely dedicated to being "the funny guy".
One thing I find funny about him is that he can get weirdly petty about things (specifically needing lukewarm tea, insisting his slacks are smoky topaz not tan, considering wearing a coat as some sort of sacrifice, etc)
it's also nice to see a male lead in a cartoon comedy that isn't either optimistic, upbeat and wacky-but dumb, or they are smart but are either cynical, grouchy and/or mean, or they're the "loser" nerd who gets made fun of every other episode. Heck, those descriptions fit some characters within Animaniacs itself! But not with Yakko, turns out male leads can be energetic AND smart without being made fun of for it! Who would've thought? Obviously, again, NOT the first time this has happened in a cartoon (Sokka, for example), but I find that a lot of male main characters (I'm talking specifically about animated comedies here, not fiction in general) fall under one of those three categories.
And unlike his siblings, who will often resort to violence/slapstick to best an opponent, Yakko (usually) just solves his problems verbally, which I find a little more engaging to watch. "Morning Malaise", "Rome Sweet Rome" and the song "Be Like Me" are some good examples of this.
"Fear and Laughter in Burbank" I would argue improves his character, confirming that he hates being alone, fears not being funny/losing his voice and seems to seek validation, via either his jokes or his singing. Hence why he references Yakko's World a lot, it's a crowd pleaser. It's his go-to to get someone to like him, like in "Sweet and Sour Sixteen" when he tries to calm the crowd, and in "Yakko Amakko" when he tries to win the animator over by singing it. It's endearing to see a more anxious side to a character who otherwise doesn't take things too seriously.

Alright, that's all I got! This might be my longest post ever but it was really fun to write. Who are your favourite Animaniacs characters?

what makes you think the writers want deancas? not trying to be an asshole, i'm just genuinely curious as to why you think that. i know berens' episodes are pretty heavy with subtext so i can see why you'd say that he wants it, but i'm not so sure about the rest of the writers/dabb. it seems like meghan isn't a huge fan either, given her "they twisted it so fast" tweet :/ of course she's a very new writer (think she's only writing one ep this season?) but still
OKAY this is a great question, welcome to my dissertation.
I’m going to address the end of your question first. Meghan is actually DeanCas positive, she has been for quite a long time. She actually, a few years back, posted a picture of her reading a literal book about Destiel and captioned it “writing reading” or something like that.
This whole thing just comes out of a boiling over of tensions because of how nasty fandom twitter can be. Like I said here, I think this has just gotten blown out of proportion, they shouldn’t have posted all this randomly disparaging stuff, but also like...can you blame them? The fandom is a lot, we always have been, and they’re probably also under a gag order not to talk about the finale, and are annoyed that people keep asking.
So nah, Meg is not anti Destiel.
To the first part!! So let’s take a look at the show runners since Cas has been around.
Seasons 4 and 5: Kripke
Seasons 6 and 7: Gamble
Seasons 8-11ish: Carver
Seasons 11ish-15: Dabb
So starting with Kripke. Okay, yes, I will be the first to admit that we have some pretty incredible Destiel moments in these seasons, but it’s less directly written into the plot and much more from Misha and Jensen’s uhhhh ~chemistry~. The only times it was directly written into the script was when the episode was handled by someone like Edlund (“On The Head Of A Pin,” “The End,” “My Bloody Valentine”). And you have to remember, if in season 5, there are moments here and there where you’re like huh that’s suspiciously romantic dialogue, remember that Cas took Anna’s place. Anna was supposed to be endgame for Dean, but due to a myriad of issues and Misha’s general greatness, Anna was replaced with Cas.
Onto 6 and 7. Hmmm. Gamble. 6 and 7 are my two least favorite seasons and that’s no secret, and that’s not only due to the plain old weird shit in the overall storyline, but also that homegirl killed off Cas in s7 and then Bobby like four episodes later. (Also it ALWAYS rubbed me the wrong way they couldn’t have Baby in that season lol). We still had some great DeanCas moments, but again, it wasn’t really written into the overall arc (until they had to change the end of season 7 because of tanking ratings and bring Misha back lol, anyone remember the fact that Dean kept Cas’ jacket and would randomly dream of him? Yeah.). But we still had those moments, those distinctly romantic moments, probably the best example in these two seasons is from Edlund again, specifically “The Man Who Would be King,” I wrote a little about that here.
We move onto Carver, who gave us, at this point, the most overt DeanCas season with season 8 (season gr8 is a better name imo), and this is the first time Dean and Cas’ relationship is directly written as an arc of the season.  I mean, you have everything in Purgatory, Dean “seeing” Cas everywhere, the fact that he felt so guilty that Cas stayed in Purgatory that he manipulated his own memories to think that he was the one that failed Cas, because he couldn’t comprehend that Cas would want to leave him, and let’s not forget Dean snapping Cas out of Naomi’s hold on him in “Goodbye Stranger.”  It was a very obvious shift, not enough to alert the general audience, but more than enough for most of us in fandom.
It’s also important to note that this is when Andrew stopped co writing with Loflin and started writing his own episodes (”Hunter Heroici” anyone?)  I like Loflin fine, but Dabb was able to stretch his legs a little bit more once he stopped co-writing, and we also began to see some DeanCas themes in his solo episodes.
In any case, them and their issues being a big part of the seasons continued with Carver, and Berens entered the scene, his first episode (”Heaven Can’t Wait”) is one of my favorites, with human Cas and the fanfiction gap and Dean and Cas just generally being awkward and funny and sweet.  This is Bobo’s FIRST episode, remember that.  He comes right out of the gate with it.
Also in Season 9, this is when Dean takes the Mark of Cain, and the Cas/Colette mirror is born, so obviously, Dean and Cas are the fabric of the season once again.  This is also the season where Metatron says Cas is “in love with humanity,” and then immediately refers to Dean as Humanity so uhhhh yeah.
Onto season 10, Dabb and Berens continue with their greatness (I could write pages on the DeanCas date in “The Things We Left Behind” alone).  And then we have one of the best scenes in the entire show in “The Prisoner” where the Cas/Colette mirror continues and Dean, driven by grief and pain and rage and the Mark, still doesn’t kill Cas.  He still can’t kill Cas.
Season 11 is important because it takes choice away from both Cas and Dean, and shows us, as the audience, how much losing each other takes out of them. We saw in season 10 how much losing Dean takes from Cas, but what about Cas losing Dean?  Dean loses his choice with his connection to Amara this season, and loses even more when Lucifer reveals he’s been possessing Cas, and plays on Dean’s connection to Cas like a mockery.  It’s also worth noting that, similarly to season 8, Dean breaks out of the connection with Amara when he’s worried about Cas, and that’s something that even SHE is surprised by.
But then season 12, the beginning to the Renaissance.  This is when we get the writer’s that become important for what Dean and Cas are today, and, truly, why I believe they want canon Destiel as much as we do.
This is the first season with Dabb’s writers: Davy Perez, Meredith Glynn, Steve Yockey, and of course Bobo all come in with their incredible talents and gave us episode after episode of good content.  “Lily Sunder Has Some Regrets” is probably my favorite, probably the best example of what I’m saying.  An episode where Dean is called out by an enemy directly, told to “roll the dice” on Cas’ life.  And Dean won’t, it’s not even really a hesitation.  And this comes from a character that has known Dean for ten seconds.  I also wrote more in depth about this episode here.  There are also some.....distinctly domestic details we get this season, specifically in “The Future” (written by Berens and Glynn) with the mixtape.  The most tropey of tropes mixtape.  Yeah, I’ll just leave that one here.
And then season 12 ends with Cas’ death, but also with the parallel between Sam and Dean with Jess and Cas.  Sam literally has to drag Dean away from Cas, just like Dean had to drag Sam out of his burning apartment in the pilot.  The episode drives it home in every way that it can: Dean is the one left kneeling by Cas’ body, while Sam goes to find out what is upstairs.  Dean is the one who stares at the sky, finally broken.  This isn’t a random thing, this is Dean’s whole arc, it’s the entirety of the beginning of 13.  Dean’s pain, his anguish, his anger.
Season 13 starts with them burning Cas, with Dean, who has begged God to bring him back, who has split his knuckles punching a door, standing, staring at Cas’ pyre with brokenness on his face.
I mean.....
Anyway, season 13 is where it gets interesting (well, I think all of this is interesting but I’m a writer nerd so).  So Cas comes back from the Empty in “Advanced Thanatology” written by Steve Yockey, and then a wombo combo of “Tombstone” by Davy Perez next (”Brokebacknatural” as the PR said at the time).  Listen.  This is the part that SPN crossed a line that they couldn’t come back from.  With Cas being Dean’s “big win,” the fact that Dean and Cas watch movies together, “I told you, he’s an angry sleeper.  Like a bear.” Talked about it here.
This is where, in my opinion, the network stepped in, but the damage was already done.  They had already established that Cas was Dean’s big win, that Dean’s poor coping was not due to Mary’s disappearance, but solely due to Cas, and that Dean and Cas have more married energy than anyone else.  The network had nixed blatant canon at this point, and they writing room had been pushing the boundaries of what the network would allow.
After these episodes, we see a marked drop off of DeanCas heavy scenes.  They’re still there, still a part of the fabric of the season, but not as...obvious as it had been in early season 13.
And this continued through season 14, we’re back to scraps of Destiel scenes here and there, but to me it always felt like there was something bubbling under the surface, something distinctly unsaid in the themes of the season, even after the walk back of obvious “Dean and Cas are in love” scenes.
And then we get to season 15, which, y’all know I talk about all the time.  What’s important here is that Bobo and Glynn are both executive producers, calling more of the shots than ever before.  Additionally, it’s important to note that, though they only co write occasionally, Glynn and Berens refer to each other as “work husband” and “work wife.”  Each episode has just turned up the volume, and, not for the first time, but certainly the most obvious, Dean and Cas ARE the season.  Sure, they’re trying to beat God, they’re trying to finally find peace, defeat the final big bad, but really?  This season has been about Dean, and Dean’s relationship to Cas.
And not only do we have obvious and clear Destiel in nearly every episode, but we have episodes like “Last Call” which canonize bi!Dean (wrote about that here).
And, maybe most importantly so far, we have “The Rupture,” the breakup, and “The Trap,” Dean’s confession (both written by Berens).  And here’s the thing.  These episodes feel connected, but also feel like they’re missing something.  Beren’s last episode is 15x18, “The Truth.”  We’ve all spec’ed about what could happen in this episode, and I think *I* know what it’s leading to.  But for it to be leading to that, it means that the network has to have approved what we’ve all been waiting for years for.
Who got this change to happen?  Who got the network to change their minds?  It wasn’t us.  It was them.  I am fully convinced that Dabb and Berens quite literally put their careers on the line for Dean and Cas.  They believe in them, they’ve shown that from the beginning, but the only thing standing in the way was the network, never allowing them to take the final step.
So, to answer your question: I think the writers want canon DeanCas because they’ve already shown us that they do.  Take a look at their episodes, at Dabb’s, at Beren’s, at Glynn’s, at Perez’s, at Yockey’s.  They’ve been telling us what’s going on with Dean and Cas for years.
Sure, I’m not in their heads, I guess I don’t know for *sure* that this has been their thought process, but if we put it all together, from the marked shift when Dabb fully took over in s12, to the change right after “Tombstone,” to the new shift, the blatantly romantic shift in season 15, what else is there?
I’ve said for a long time that we, the SPN fandom, are beyond lucky to have the writer’s that we do.  They’re all going to go on to have prolific careers and we were lucky to get them at the end of our little show.  I give them a lot of credit for what we have in the show today.
Just remember, they’ve been telling us in all of s15 who Chuck is.  He says he’s the writer, right?  But a writer who doesn’t have control of his characters?  A writer who wants to do the same ending over and over because it “works”?  That doesn’t sound like a writer, it sounds like a network exec.
They’ve been showing us what they want for years, and the way s15 is going?  I think they may have convinced the network to let us have it.
