I LOVE THIS AU TOO i do want to draw more i always have ideas for it.... but i will gladly ramble about my lore ive developed

1. is this an mpreg au even i do not know or care to know. yes these are their biological children who look like them and share their genes but how did we get here ill leave that to you to assume. either way both of them definitely wanted big families and even tho i draw them with 2 kids i think they want at least 4..... charles wants a daughter and carlos says the same but secretly he only wants sons. hes picturing a future football team and also doesn't understand women conceptually

2. i actually think carlos3 was an accident child and charlos get shotgun married over it. its part of the reason why theres a bit of a gap between their first and second child. they had to like reassess and settle stuff after kind of having to get their shit together and make honest men of each other.

3. they get divorced at some point during all this mainly due to SAINZ SENIOR PRESSURE. probably while carlos3 is like highschool age. charles talks so much shit and then proceeds to get emotional like I SHOULDNT TALK ABOUT YOUR FATHER THIS WAY vs carlos like. bro tries to just act like they are normal regular friends now like man thats not how this works....charles always plays cool irl but is annoyed as hell underneath. very good coparents though....always at all the events together. when the kids stay at sainz family evil mansion for the summer they come back to charles so villainous and feral. he has to go supernanny on them...

4. charlos DO get back together after like 10 years of being separated lol. and yeah there were lots of messy nights out and not quite reconciliations throughout that time. very confusing family dynamic but theyre happy at the end

5. carlos3 grows up to be a guy who just kind of piggybacks onto whatever business endeavors his dads are doing. ultimate nepotism hire. hes not bad at what hes doing he just never really found that passion. his passion is like.....posting peaky blinders quotes on instagram. hes kind of a failson but hes also the perpetual baby for charlos so they just...coddled him too much his whole life djhdksndksbs.... younger son herve becomes a FASHION MODEL!!!! hes beautiful gorgeous and also a perfect nepo child so he's ripe for this career....he walks runways in paris

Charles/Seb. Kill your idols!! etc

Charles/Carlos. The arranged marriage of it all

Extremely rarepair ships!!! Like, Charles / some Ferrari guys, or Charles / Joris (see this fic), or Charles/some older guy (see the Charles/Nico fic) — I always love rarepair works bc you need to put a lot of thought into building a narrative and these always compel me

Then there's kind of a big gap between these and the next that all kinda mix together... right now it'd be like:

4. Charles/Oscar. Lore doesn't sweep me away but hey have some banger moments and their personalities together.... interesting! I think there's a lot that's unexplored there.

5. Charles/Max. Most extreme case of hit or mix in the fandom. I honestly am not really wholly compelled by the lore but they have some cool moments and get points for having some amazing creators. Lose some points bc I don't vibe with many popular narratives + I'm not very interested in RPF-ing Max these days.

6. Charles/Lando. IDK if I'm compelled in a fic way but I AM drawn to their lukewarm beef and wildly opposite personalities.

7. Charles/Lewis. I find it hard to ship Lewis with the current grid bc he really keeps himself apart but like... I am studying them. I hope 2025 will give me some material.

8. Charles/Pierre. Piarles is like the definition of "makes sense doesn't compel me tho". They're cute! I feel like their friendship dynamic gives me everything, though? I don't need to look for more. Mostly interested in RPF-ying them in a fuckboy way where they're both cheating on their girlfriends.

9. Charles/Alex = Charles/George. They have Moments and they're cute but I don't think there's much there that draws my attention. I'd read fic if it has an interesting premise.

????. Charles/Daniel. Only including this because it has over 250 works on A03 so at some point it might have been mildly popular? I don't care at all. This is the only ship that makes me go "I wouldn't read this if it showed up on my feed" while all the others I'd give a fair try if the summary compelled me

See what happens when you have a powerful prejudice character and then retcon him into an Uwu baby? It gets weird. Don’t worry, I’m sure Viv will retcon the fact that Stolas was prejudice towards imps and act like it never happened too! That’s all we need tho, Stolas butting in to the MAIN cast and overshadowing the characters and dynamics that are barley developed. It’s going to be a disaster.

I felt like screenshotting the last part I wanted to talk about because it’s basically all of this.

1. This is PART of the reason why Viv’s world is so messy. Everything feels so scrambled because she wants to shove in a bunch of mythologies and texts and everything into one and that just makes your world less consistent and more confusing.

2. I don’t even know why Viv says these things because she never focuses on them anyway. Again, her hell is just an underwhelming city and there’s never a deep dive into the mythologies in the first place, aside from background shit or a name drop. Still, this is starting to become Zoophobia where she has too many ideas and is too ambitious and wants to dump a lot of things into one. It’s funny, I saw part of this livestream, and she willingly can openly admit that the comic was a mess and she poured too many ideas into it, but she just……does the same for Hazbin and doesn’t realize it—-

Okay I’m done. I will post a clip or talk about some of the stuff said in the OTHER livestream (the one that was a mess) but for now here are my thoughts. Honestly tho EVERYTHING Viv says in a livestream is a mess. None of the insight or attitude she displays there never comes into the show or even real life with her criticism shit fits and all. VALID concerns for aegon's character. however i think the way RR went down sets him up for a great comeback story against his brother who has always asserted himself as more capable of ruling. no he won't overcome an addiction to milk of the poppy but he'll overcome the expectations of those around him who never openly believed in him to be anything more than a puppet. while it's a shame they've kept helaena & jaehaera out of his scenes, i hope/think that it builds on a parallel against alicent where aegon can be this example of "look how i've defied my shitty parenting to actually save my daughter/child when they needed me" breaking that cycle of trauma/failure. also im holding out hope helaena is pregnant with the third kid. idk if this made sense & maybe im too optimistic but there's potential here.... need them to send aegon to turkey for fair transplants tho. i still wanna objectify him next season.

I think I just don’t like the brother vs brother dynamic. It kind of cheapens the green faction as a whole when there’s so much infighting with siblings who /should/ be united. I’m going to wait to see how the rest of this season plays out but the thing that is annoying me the most is Aegon becoming a secondary character in his own recovery arc. We don’t know Larys true intentions and motivations yet so I’m going to try to withhold judgment but the dynamic between Larys and Aegon this whole season so far has pointed to Aegon becoming a puppet to Larys which I just hate. I am holding out hope that we will get a Helaena pregnancy reveal next episode and that could potentially make Aegons motivations become more inline with his motivations he has in the books. I’m also hoping Aegon and Alicent will have one more scene this season and hopefully Aegon will just snitch on Aemond for RR. The RR shit just complicated so much for no reason, it was so cheap.

this may be extremely long depending on how much i feel like talking about so i apologize

spoilers inbound after this point!!

there are many, many reasons ive fallen in love with them and their dynamic, but ill try to condense them into a more readable format

the sections will be as follows:

 their parallels and how they compliment each other

their kindness and affection towards each other

how they treat the other differently to the others in the mansion

more surface level dynamic things i like

the things that got me attached to them in the first place

parallels!

i feel like every noelashe fan understands their parallels somewhat but im insane so im gonna go in depth

they match and contrast each other in so so many different ways, down to even design (i actually made a post about that before it shouldnt be too hard to find)

their personalities are one thing, energetic and tired, extroverted and introverted, loud and shy, cruel and kind, fake and genuine, manipulative and naïve, i could go on but thatd be WAY too long so i'll just mention these

but thats just on the surface, they actually match each other a LOT more than you think

how ashe is more introverted than what meets the eye, not liking people out of distrust, and noel being tons more talkative and social, adoring people and barely being able to hate anyone

noel being smarter than he appears, willing to lie and manipulate for what he wants, and ashe being really easy to fool sometimes, immediately believing anything he thinks can bring back his family

and of course the obvious, their wishes

the same wish, the same pain, they go through such similar trauma with different ways of dealing with it

or so you think, their coping is very similar and this is acknowledged in sirius's conclusion, the only real difference being if theyre violent or not. noel, has sworn off harming people but he's still not above using backhanded methods for his goals. ashe, despite doing awful things for his wants, still has noble(ish) reasons for why he does these things

neither are entirely innocent, but neither are completely guilty

they both just want the people they care for to live peacefully, alive

but both do some pretty fucked up things for this wish, noel lies to sirius and uses dorothy as a ploy, ashe well- i think we all know. ashe commits multiple varied crimes that range from theft to murder and noel's own negligence can be considered a crime in some cases.

they have an understanding no one else does and it creates a lot of interest towards them and develops them as individuals too

kindness

they care so much for each other its insane

noel has trouble seeing ashe as anything but kind and ashe cant help but feel attached to noel even if he doesnt want to, which makes them get close each time and it makes them feel for each other a LOT more than they need to

the times where noel is sick and ashe takes care of him, ashe saying he lied so noel wont feel bad, noel letting ashe confide in him and ashe even trusting him enough to say his worries in the first place, the list goes on

they just have an instant bond bc they want someone to care and help them (even if both have trouble admitting it) and they want to help each other, which just makes them care more

it always ends in kindness between the two and it's one of the ways we get a happy ending

special treatment

i could put this in the kindness section but i think it deserves its own section bc its so damn cute

it does have a little less to go over tho as it doesn't happen much

noel seems to really admire ashe and his abilities so much more than anyone else its adorable

hes so amazed by him literally just cooking and he doesnt comment on anything to do with precise stuff that isnt smth ashe does, i may be wrong but i dont think ive ever seen him comment on smth like sirius drawing talismans which is highly specific but will ALWAYS think about how impressed he is with ashe

and ashe always opens up to noel so much more than anyone else like noel has gotten ashe to talk about himself unlike anyone else, the only other character he talked to about things was claire (technically sirius too but he was drunk off his ass so im not counting it) and that was like once he doesnt even say anything that isnt surface level

ashe also just refuses to harm noel and i dont think anyone has noticed this before

it makes sense if his killings are during the day bc noel literally just isnt there but some other times he has no excuse

HE MOVES TO THE SIDE HERE EVEN IF WHERE HE WAS STANDING GAVE HIM A CLEARER SHOT TO CLAIRE YOU CANT TELL ME IT WASNT SO HE DELIBERATELY MISSES NOEL

most obvious is that theyre both my favorites, im extremely attached to ashe and i loved him from the start, i didnt start liking noel until a tiny bit later but he very quickly gained my love

i also relate to them both heavily so seeing them care so much for each other gave me comfort

its a huge pattern that most of my ships are of the character i got immediately attached to and relate to and other character i relate to who cares about the first character

the fate line. its just so gay i was like "thats kinda gay" and while i didnt always think of it like it was super important it always stuck in my head like "yeah i could ship them"

but the real thing that started this all was the wine scene

its when i realized how much they cared for each other and then the floodgates opened, and here we are now!!

its still by far my favorite scene of the two it just makes me so happy its so adorable

conclusion

i have an extreme love for noelashe and just seeing them can make my entire mood better

i dont think many people have analyzed them as much as me so its sad to see how much stuff with them goes unnoticed

theyre genuinely so great for each other, platonic, romantic or anything in between, they deserve to be happy with each other

why was she so quick to fall into his arms after he put her away?see above. she genuinely did want to get him. the other pertinent question is "how does this work with the ways in which i read fraser's state of mind and how she uses that against him GIRL TRIED TO KILL DIEFENBAKER??? FRASER WHAT ARE YOU DOING!?"

what is she hoping to get out of him in part 2, considering how part 1 ended? bonnie and clyde situation. actually most of my Stuff with this episode doesn't have to do with her writing (except for the last scene, i was a bit eh on that, tbc)

will we get more context for their emotional connection outside of the story about the snowstorm? no. it really is that. i should add actually that there is also the guilt of him giving her up afterwards and that sets up a lot of her both Wanting him (he's a fucking specimen + mythical being wrapped up in a cutie-patootie overly earnest packaging) and Hating him (he put her in jail/he's also just... fun to poke at) so will leave it there for a second, because that is Her... now what is up with Him?

MAINLY I'm talking about the sex scene (ofc i am). so a lot of this is related to fraser-Thoughts about how he feels OOC (unless he doesn't 👀 because she's fucking with him and his feelings and manipulating him into feeling real bad about everything), but it's the difficulty in establishing a real bond between these two that feels real, and while it was obviously important for her to be in his apartment, i think they fell for a classic tv-laziness of "if we just tell the audience + show a little easy montage of them idk. watching tv and play some sexy feely 90s music to do the shortcut" and it's not that I'm against a sex-scene per se (i read asexual aromanticism into waaaay flimsier texts, this one is still pretty darn solid) if she'd come in and been vulnerable and they'd made dinner and she'd given the sob story and he'd fallen asleep and then she'd washed her prints and left and in episode two, when she's at her most "fragile" (or so he thinks) she pushed that into sex.. I think that would have been stronger. played more into her manipulative plan, the ways she has him on a string, the mixed up feelings of trauma and guilt and naivety and hope he has also it would have evened out the episode lengths

how do i feel about how this interacts with previous text vis a vis fraser's emotional internality? ha so, i hmmm... on the one hand the OOC'ness feels like it wasn't totally intentional -- that is the writing also wanted the whole cake + eating it situation, in that it wanted to explore him being used and manipulated by this woman in a way that also kind of wants the whole thing to have an air of "pure love" to it that doesn't gel entirely with the actual text. that is, there could have been more ambiguity to some of it and it wouldn't have weakened anything, it may have been more obviously an abusive/manipulative Thing, but... it kind of already is on the other hand that's what's really fun to read into this dynamic. she really genuinely wants this man, but entirely on her terms. and meanwhile fraser is totally turned around and doesn't know what he wants, so she calls the shots, which is why she's in control of the narrative for so long. she fucks with him by appearing over and over and disappearing in order to stir up all those old memories, that shit is targeted to get to him (and the snow! the snow OH MY GOODNESS that was FASCINATING - bro that reads like a fucking trigger, not love) and to add to that, there's the speech to his dad (which again, part two being what ties it all together) about how his dad never knew his mother and how that ties to love, and I've gotta rewatch that scene, because I think that's what ties it together. his dad asks if it's snowing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (I've connected the dots, but I'm not 100% sure if it's all the dots intended but. I have a bias duh) (the dots are that fraser and sex still don't mesh, and fraser was never in love with her) (we'll get to The Train)

how do i feel that this progresses the wider story thematically? I actually cannot answer this until the next episode at least

what do i take from the victoria and fraser relationship? see all of above points, but mainly: I like it. there are a lot of ways one can take it, but mainly I was very happy about her being genuinely quite a nasty person. she tried to kill diefenbaker, she was willing to put ray in prison, she wanted to take everything away from fraser in order to make him totally dependent on her. that's exactly what i wanted -- do I think they reneged on that a bit at the end with the train and made it kind of... try Not to be the fucked up thing that it is, but more of a tragic doomed love. that shit is only doomed and tragic because this woman is a terrible terrible person + manipulative bastard (which is based) (and also because fraser is aroace) (theres a dark!fic in there where she somehow gets fraser with her -- maybe he does get on the train and ray misses and she just. completely destroy him. because that's what she likes to do with him) (it kind of speaks to "the wild bunch" -- if that was civilisation trying to destroy his soul, this was a literal person trying to do the same. and he has so little idea of his own internal self that he has no idea how to stop her or even to stop her. ray was right to try and shoot her)

best parts - fraser confronting his dad. actually all the fraser and his dad scenes, also when he cries - ray. everything ray. ray forever. ray feeling sad and abandoned. ray threatening to kill her. ray putting everything on the line for fraser. ray in part two never doubting fraser for a second. ray knows fraser dammit!!! your own thesis about knowing and love is right there (ok i'm chill) RAY SHOOTING HIM!!!!! ARGH!!!!!! - the story fraser tells the priest. that was all soooo the Dynamic i wanted. the fear and conviction that they were going to die, the kinkiness of putting the hands in the mouth to keep her warm, the guilt that they had this intense moment and he still gave her up, the half-remembered poetry he'd mentioned before, the way he feels kind of crazy thinking about her (because she's out to drive him crazy), i definitely want to listen to that again - the whole bit when she's talking to him through the peep show window up to her kicking him out of the car, everything ramping up is Great and it really solidifies her and her relation to fraser and how she uses him

weakest parts - sex scene just a bit silly and not quite believable in terms of structuring - i just don't buy that ray's reaction to fraser missing work because of a woman would be elation, not because of queer reads, but because it's so blatantly out of character for fraser that it should have provoked a bigger reaction of disbelief, either for positive or for negative. we do get a bit more of that in the second part (when he threatens her), but yeah, it just feels a bit too much like it's playing into the heteronormative shorthand that having sex (with a woman) -- no matter how abnormal for a specific individual -- is the normal thing to aspire to/has created a normalised state of affairs, even though it... obviously hasn't, as witnessed by the whole rest of the episode (and the fact that he didn't go to work is a red flag that something is wrong) - there is some wishy-washy stuff the whole way through in terms of failure to Commit to just how fucked up everything is, as witnessed by ray's initial reaction. at heart, the show does think that sex/romance is normal, and so, fraser has been abnormal the whole time and it wants to create some kind of core of explaining that through a True Tragic Love, while also wanting to play around with some quite fun "what if the villain is into the hero, but is still, inherently, the villain" which we also saw done very well in shows like elementary (not quite like, say, x-men, where magneto believes in a cause, I mean a villain who Is Just Bad) - this mostly evidenced by the train at the end, it's just a bit weak. either she's trying to manipulate him by returning to "sweet and vulnerable" which i truly just don't think he should've fallen for again, (that's the "normalisation" part of it all, it really is love, blablabla) or like. she should've tried to force him on somehow. or a mix of the two, depicting her honest desperation, and also her ruthlessness to play with his feelings in order to get what she wants, because like. she shot diefenbaker. she framed ray. she almost destroyed fraser's whole reason for being

CONCLUSION: I'll wait and see where the next episode goes, but there's a lot to play with in this

I’m really not the same person I was before reading chapter 15 of SDLN. I love how you described that getting flashbacks of Sarah while with June actually helps Joel with that grief than hurts. It also must be a weird balancing act of him knowing that June is her own person and not a replacement but also she‘s his chance to try again, to be a dad and protector and do it better (of course we all know he didn’t fail Sarah at all but that’s how he perceives it).

I also love how you’ve described how the dynamic has shifted a bit between Joel and Honey. How she thinks about the times they had before the baby and misses it a bit and that’s fine but she loves their new roles now. And the line about how Joel loves her even more because she’s such a competent mother even tho it’s her first time. And of course how there’s still very much attraction between them, I especially loved the part about Honey just aching for Joel while watching him with the baby or doing chores bc it reminds me of back in the early chapters when they still pined for each other.

And ugh the smut of course 🥵🥵🥵 Honey loving his broad frame and those big dad arms now occupied with their little girl and Joel is loving his lady’s stretch marks and milky boobs and soft stomach like that perfect body grew his /baby/ what’s not to love 🥺

fmab is just one of my fave shows ever. i prefer the dub for alphonse and mustang but honestly i can play any episode and enjoy and just have it on in the bg now bc it's just one of those shows. it really relaxes me haha which is funny bc it's so dark

the ancient magus bride is one of my favorite animes of all time, the fantasy elements and the dark plot are just so magical and unique to me (i get a lot of fantasy inspo from it highkey) and the music too is just so relaxing. i often feel like despite its dark nature hahaha

i chose friends bc in spite of how i've learned many ppl hate it it's a show that i really loved and my family all watched it so we quote it so much in everyday life and laugh so much and so i think it helped me bc it's a core part of my family's dynamic HAHA

I'm relatively a very new fan. I only started playing the summer of 2023, so I haven't had the chance to participate in the even yet. Since starting playing I have heard a lot about Lantern Rite though and was, predictably, very excited. But I found this year's Lantern Rite to be a bit underwhelming.

The first two parts of the quest were kind of a drag and I honestly hardly remember what even happened there beyond kite-making and some exposition of Gaming's backstory, but the third made me actually laugh at times. Xianyun's and Shenhe's conversation was hilarious, and I thought Gaming's whole storyline was pretty cute. So was the interaction between Xiao and Zhongli. Day three was great! Then day four was also kind of a downer. It seems strange to introduce Fontaine characters only for them to barely do anything, but maybe it was worth it just for Neuvillette being extremely cute about the Traveler liking his silly ladle. I think there was a lot that could have been done with both Furina and Neuvillette in Liyue, but all we really got that was interesting was Zhongli avoiding Neuvi and some Neuvi characterization (why did we get this in a Liyue event, tho?). The former we didn't even see! We heard about it second-hand!

I thought Lantern Rite would be more, I dunno, cool. From what I've seen of it (I have not yet had an opportunity to see all the previous Lantern Rites in full), it's associated with lore drops and with developing Liyue's characters and their dynamics, especially Xiao. I did like Xiao's cameo and the little date you get with him after Lantern Rite, but I wish we got more. Though maybe we won't ever be seeing him as prominently because his arc about opening up to the Traveler and others seems to have reached some kind of wrap.

Overall, the story just didn't focus on things I cared about. Sure, Gaming is cute, but I don't care about him so much as to want a whole 3-parter quest dedicated to him. And the quest didn't make him grow on me that much.

listen, I didn't plan to at first but even prior to its release the trailer caught my attention so.. I started watching the eighth sense today!! and I can confidently say that I haven't been this drawn in by a show in quite some time it is so good and we are only two episodes in.

I really don't know where to start with this post:

I love the dynamic we got going on between jihyun and jaewon, I like that there is the typical junior-senior dynamic but that jihyun isn't afraid to get back at jaewon whenever he nags him a little

I am also obsessed with the way they look at each other sometimes, it is so subtle but still very visible for the viewer.. I almost don't want to call it looks they're quick glances and then they suddenly seem to get aware of their surroundings again and quickly look away like you can tell that for just a few seconds they are in their own little bubble and then BOOM reality hits

also - as mentioned in I think the official synopsis - I like that up until now there isn't any proper crushing going on from any sides but it's simply the mutual curiosity it's almost like whenever they look at each other they are wondering what the other might be thinking, if he's thinking the same or if it's just a misunderstanding I really like that because I feel like a lot of shows start out with a one sided crush

I'm also very intrigued by jaewon's back story because clearly this guy got something going on, his reactions to certain things sometimes make it soo obvious.. well, I'm preparing myself for something tragic

tragedy actually brings me to my next point: the entire series so far (and the trailer) has this kinda serious undertone (I mean yeah, it's a drama so obviously it's somewhat serious but like yk that typical something bad is gonna happen kind of vibe) and that just makes me suspect we're gonna get a bad ending like that the whole show is gonna be very bittersweet and I really, really hope it's meant to be misleading and we get a happy ending instead because there is no way I'm gonna be fine if anything happens to any of them

I'm keeping my hopes for a good ending low tho because I keep thinking about the first few scenes from episode one with jaewon alone at the beach and the sirens in the background and I really can't stop reminding myself of the fact that jihyun literally CAN'T SWIM and they're surfing in the open ocean like that scares me

another thing that's pretty unrelated to the storyline but I thought it was worth mentioning, jaewon and jihyun kind of remind me of isak and even from skam like idk if this makes sense to anyone else but to me they have a very similar vibe I can't even explain why or where it comes from it was just one of the first things I thought of after finishing the first two episodes

ok, i think it just has to be a tie between "only time is ours" and "34 Days", which are check please kent/jack fics about the same pre-canon break-up events, the first from jack's pov and the second from kent's (tho iirc they have different interpretations of events beyond the pov switch, too). they are inherently angsty bc absolutely nothing is good at the end of them.

this is so hard to decide, bc i primarily write romcoms and by the end of them if your teeth aren't rotting i did it wrong. i will give a shoutout to "doesn't matter what we do", a bts jimin/j-hope that is all about just Letting Urself Be Soulmates and then grossing out ur bandmates about it.

crossovers of fandoms that have nothing to do with each other actually kind of squick me - i'm talking crossovers where characters who have never and will never meet are there for no reason (think superwholock tbh, tho i was uncharacteristically a lil into that at the time), not fusions or big universes with diff shows or whatever. it's just not for me!

but in terms of things where it's less drastic (crossing over bands in k-pop, for example) i am all over that, bc there's interesting stuff from real life there! my craziest example atm is a baekho/jun fic, and like, it's not that crazy!

often fandom really makes these ships worth it to talk about and inspires me to contribute. i am often very compelled by one character in particular and just ship them with everyone possible so i can examine all their sides.

What’s a wip you want to finish, but doubt you ever will?

hmmmm if i WANT to finish it, i probably will. there are things that i ended up abandoning, though. one of those i'm still kinda sad about was a dylan/mitch/auston sequel to my connor/rystro.

What are your writing strengths?

i write realistic dialogue and i'm great at characterization (shoutout to the mean comment i got circa 2010 telling me to get good at characterization. i did. thanks.) my voice has always been strong, too.

What are your writing weaknesses?

i sometimes slack on depicting the interior emotions of characters. i'm not great with setting or exposition because the brand of fanfic i tend to write isn't a great place to practice those skills. i try to find places to do it, though!

Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic?

it's the norm in k-pop fandom to drop in localization things like honorifics, and i like it because it can communicate relationships between the characters and so that it's not SO divorced from the context the idols actually live in. this is such a weirdly specific question, idk what else to say about it lmao

choosing between my children? ok. at the moment i'm quite fond of too real to call it magic, a contemporary fantasy au where the main character is stuck in a dream. i felt really good about what i did with the themes and setting of the source material (a mv, so you're only 3mins and a quick google of the main characters' names away from reading this fic!) and the way i developed the relationship. it's underrated af bc it's a niche pairing.

peter oh peterrrrrrr i am so fascinated by this guy! and by his dynamic with the rest of the guys! i really empathise with him, i think. high school friendship groups can be amazing, but they can still be soo incredibly stifling. even if they’re great and even if you all still get along, it can be hard to move on and to not get stuck in your ways. and that’s just something i especially see in peter, particularly as he’s kind of always defined as the “extra” or like the fourth guy always trailing around after the others. like he's always defined in relation to other people, rather than who he is as his own person. and like. i just think that would be so incredibly hard on him identity-wise. like how do you form your own identity that isn’t dependent on other people? especially when you know that's how everyone sees you. i imagine that's how you'd also start to see yourself. and like even if the other guys aren’t actively mean to him (in the way that it's implied they were in canon), i still think that would be really difficult to navigate. so i said!! what about an edgy icon peter! in berlin!!! buzzcut and an eyebrow piercing!

i find peter/sirius such an intriguing dynamic because there's this feeling that sirius just isn't ever even an option for peter. like it's totally off the cards for him (which honestly makes me really want to write a peter/sirius fic. i've genuinely been thinking about it!!!) like we kind of also get that with r/s in the sense that remus is this chewed up pencil of a man who somehow bags this guy who is.... basically a prince (although OFC they have a whole lot of other stuff going on too!). but with peter it's kinda taken to the next level. and i think nobody thinks that more than peter yknow? like i think he knows it's absolutely hopeless, but even so in oao i think a teeny tiny part of him still hoped. especially since he's moved to berlin and has found his own identity. i think he would have been soooooo excited to see sirius, and, most importantly, for sirius to see him! and for sirius to see that he's maybe worth knowing. maybe even romantically! but unfortunately ...... 99% of sirius's brain capacity has been taken up by a certain knobbly kneed chewed up pencil man! bad timing :-\\

So Misha said they don’t have to be live action portrayals so there’s a mix in here! This was also SUPER HARD TO CHOOSE so for the record these aren’t so much ranked as they are a nebulous cloud of a top 5

Kevin Conroy in B:TAS/TNBA/JL. This was probably pretty predictable. Come on. He’s first voice I hear in my head while thinking about Batman (a close second tho actually is something like his voice in Arkham Origins and the Hush movie! Idk their actors tho) and he played one of if not the most important Batman portrayals ever. To get NUANCED about this briefly, I do have issues with the DCAU’s later writing for Bruce, namely how everything about him seems to get so grimdark and edgy compared to his warmth and gentleness in B:TAS BUT how and ever SO. Kevin Conroy king forever 👑

Robert Pattinson in The Batman. You know I love me my Rpatz. I can absolutely understand why he might not be someone’s favourite, especially if they’re a fan of the classic depiction of Bruce, but what I really love about him (and this extends to Riddler too!) is that despite being different in some ways on the surface, all his traits ultimately come from the same core character and experience as depictions that feature more galas, swimwear models and ski trips in the Alps Brucie Waynes. He’s both a very grounded depiction of a deeply troubled man yet he toes the line between the “realism” of ‘verses like the Nolanverse and more camp superhero stuff so well and he has so much potential for his sequel, as well as of course giving us the chance to see him be a detective!! Finally!! To mention Robert himself then, he did such an amazing job playing Bruce. I love Robert Pattinson, I really do, I seek out movies with him in them, and still every time I see him in a movie, Rob completely melts away and it’s just… the character. There truly are few actors I can say that about, but I feel it so strongly for him, and his Batman portrayal was no different. (Also autidm bruce yuh). I also love his dynamic with Jim, Rob and Jeffrey are so good together.

Bruce in Batman: The Imposter. A non-actor one on here! Admittedly I don’t read as many comics as I’d like, but Batman: The Imposter was one I had to buy in May after seeing The Batman and having it recommended to me. For a lot of the same reasons I like The Batman 2022 Bruce, I like B:TI Bruce. I find with him that there’s such a… a softness to him. When he’s Bruce, there’s such a quietness, almost a meekness to him. He really reads as very pained but still somehow managing to find a kindness in his heart, even when he’s so isolated from the world. I also think it’s interesting — if slightly concerning — that Alfred is pretty much gone from Bruce’s life. A while after Bruce comes into Alfred’s care as a child, Alfred can’t handle him anymore, sends him off to boarding school, and dips from the Wayne family completely. Absolute worst Alfred I’ve ever seen, we do not stan. BUT my point is that, while I feel like there’s a chance the author wrote Bruce to be alone for the sake of cliche lone wolf edgelord, it just makes his shy nature outside of the Batman suit stand out to me more. Even so alone, he hasn’t lost hope. And. The page where he’s talking about his effect on Gotham, and he sheds a tear from under the cowl. Yeah. Yeah it got to me. Also! He’s the closest we have to a canonically autistic Bruce!

David Mazouz in Gotham. Okay. Okay. Gotham is not well-written, nor do I like the fact that Bruce plays a part in the show at all, I don’t like him being on a path to Batman from the moment his parents die. HOWEVER. I think David is a fantastic depiction of a young, struggling to grieve, anger-filled, doesn’t-want-to-feel-powerless Bruce. He’s a kid trying to understand himself and the world that’s been turned upside down on him, and David portrays a great balance of innocence and blooming maturity. Also, the older he gets, the more he looks like a perfect Bruce I swear to god. Even if I don’t like Bruce’s role in the show, I always thought David Mazouz was a great fit.

Bruce in The Batman 2004 cartoon. This one’s just fun. They don’t really touch on the darker aspects of him and they don’t mention his parents much at all (they don’t pretend they never died, but they’re very *very* vague and rare about their mentions of them) but I just think he’s really fun. He’s young and energetic but he’s not a party animal, and I think he’s interesting as a,, surprisingly stable Bruce. He also doesn’t have as much separation between Batman —> Bruce and Bruce —> Brucie as other depictions which I think is interesting! He feels very genuine and always like himself, but they’re also not afraid to show him being self-destructive or neglecting his needs for his work.

BONUS MENTION BECAUSE I HAVE SO MANY THOUGHTS: Ben Affleck in the DCEU. Okay okay OKAY I do not like the DCEU. I really don’t, and I think Bruce is grievously miswritten (???) in BvS. But. Ben deserved better. I can very easily see him as Bruce. I think he makes a very good older Bruce, AND he was great in the party scene in BvS where he meets Clark and they butt heads. Same as with Henry Cavill, they deserved to play better written versions of their characters.
