Like I have loved the little vox machina cameos in c3 but i’m starting to get worried that it’s gonna overshadow bells hells story, especially with kiki looking for allies and saying they’re all gonna confront this together. Like VM had their story. If they want to go into rescuing vax from the orb and everyone reuniting, even briefly, then do another vox machina one shot maybe? Let them have their own small standalone arc in the midst of all this? That’s what they’re doing for the mighty nein when beau and caleb showed up. Anyway I just love bells hells a lot and I want them and their story to keep shining and not be overshadowed by anything else but I keep seeing A LOT of posts about hopes for future episodes that have to do with VM characters and not BH. Like sure, i’m curious what VM will do about certain things, but they’re NPCs and it really wouldn’t be relevant to bells hells story to go into some of it 😅

Omgggg wait wait let me tell you some details

He’s very much into punk rock (Fugazi, Rage Against The Machine, etc.) and lives in his band tees. Much like the back room of the parlor, a lot of his stuff is covered in stickers for his fav bands. So I think he’d really like to introduce his girl to his music if she’s willing to try it out, it would mean a lot to him!

Whenever he picks her up, he’s always blasting music LOUD so she knows when he arrives 

Big fan of CDs. You can bet your ass that he’s burning CDs for her for all sorts of things. Songs that remind him of her, songs he wants to fuck her to. Some of them are stupid too, like “Good Shit” scrawled in black Sharpie on a disc. Sometimes he’ll scribble little drawings on there too. His handwriting is shit and she loves it.

Also music related, he's an amazing concert bf, always making sure she can see and no one is getting too close to her. He'd be SO PROUD if she went to a punk rock show with him

Now… if she ever did say she was interested in getting another piercing of any kind, he is begging her to let him do it for her (for free, with princess treatment). He’s very much like “fuck yeah, do it” whenever she brings up a tatt or piercing of any kind

Author's Note: This is my first F1 fic, which makes me nervous so why not start with a series.

Many Drive to Survive haters like to pretend everything that comes from the show and what it’s about are beneath them. That they couldn’t possibly care, and that the only important thing is the race on Sunday. And yet the day after the latest season drops you can find them amongst the chaos trying to figure out what the hell were all those hints about a new form of content that F1 plans to release. 

Interwoven with the usual storylines and mild dramatics there was a lot of talk about how drivers show their families the support they’re given. How they show up for them in their careers and bits of their lives. It was weird at first, but then it sent off alarm bells when an almost fourth wall breaking moment happened where the Netflix team was blatantly dismissed. 

“I think we have this one Netflix, but thanks for the help.” Those were the exact words spoken by the head of marketing as she closed the door to a room where you get a glimpse of team paraphernalia but see no faces. 

Every social platform that you can find an F1 fan on has it trending and the conversations (and screams into the void) are fast paced. But Twitter is where the real unhinged and brain cell losing behavior is happening. 

And the most accurate guessing.

Almost everyone within the community is discussing what that snippet could mean. Is it the end of DTS as they know it? The end of it completely? Are F1 and Netflix severing ties? Will F1 be taking over? Is this some little game they're playing with their viewers to keep them tuned in? Is it something completely different? What the actual fuck is going on?

In the middle of those questions are those who think themselves a genius or are delusional enough that they can’t help but form some wild ideas of what’s to come.

Someone must be retiring. Multiple people are retiring. There’s going to be a reality show ala Keeping Up with the Verstappens, where everyone learns that Max’s little trauma dumpy memories with Jos are just the surface level of how insane that man is. Someone is getting married. Someone is getting married to another driver. A nepo baby is going to become the “voice of the fandom” and host a show about the drivers during race weekends and it’s going to be all the wrong things. A dating show for all the singles. A behind the scenes at the lives of drivers and their families, but like Family Feud. And the penultimate dude bro dream of them getting to spend the season hanging out with drivers and get confirmation that their toxic thoughts that alienate most of the fan base is true.

After about twenty-four hours it all dies down. Everyone is still wondering, but they don’t feel like they’re losing their minds while they try to be the one who can say they were right when they news drops.

As if timed, the second that F1 drops in trends the F1 admin drops a graphic with the faces of six people who are clearly positioned like the thinking face emoji on every platform that they use. In the captions it says: Week in the Life - Sibling Edition.

If Twitter was home to the first wave of screaming, it belongs to Tumblr the second go round. Everyone is so excited for the content that someone must have thrown up from how aggressively happy they feel. Everyone is talking about who they want it to be and what content they’d love to see from which sibling. Those who make gifs are especially excited to get everything they can, though they won’t be outdone by those whose brains and fingers will be entities on their own once they get hold of a singular moment that will inspire the fic of everyone’s dreams.

Those who always have something negative to say are there as usual, but they aren’t as loud or upset as they often are. Being nosy doesn’t stop just because you want to pretend that you only care about the race, as if someone doesn’t have a file of screenshots from all the times, they’ve attacked the character of a driver for something not race related at all.

The reaction to this is the kind that instills faith in what is being done. The kind of thing that tells all the upper management who didn’t like it that it was a good idea, but also puts a certain bit of weight on the content team. They need this to deliver. Need to keep the hype, especially since the first episode doesn’t drop until the start of December and they’ve already recorded half the series so a failure could stop the rest.

So once the Singapore GP ends, Daniel Ricciardo’s face is no longer gray. You get to see that goofy smile and wink. You’d think they told everyone he was getting a permanent seat with a three year contract with the reception to it.

I can not recommend this fic enough! It is my all time favorite and such a comfort fic, it just has all the elements I love. Perfect balance of angst, humor, and a great plot.

Love this one so much. Very well written and tackles some really heavy topics in such a good wau. It still had all the things I like about Spideypool but the characterization felt really fresh and different.

I love your thoughts on Astrid and I think a lot about whether her initial ambition to become powerful for the sake of power turned into the ambition for power so no one else has power over her. I truly do not think she begrudges Wulf his faith any more than she begrudges Caleb his new life though I would not be surprised if both are sources of some pain for her. (in a way the three of them remind me of trees. Caleb lost a part of himself but that allowed new sprouts to come forth. Wulf found faith that allowed the damage to be lessened by giving support to the damaged part of the tree. And Astrid is the one with neither who grows around the damage in the only direction she ever knew though it costs her much more in the long term than the other solutions)

So I think I say this whenever I get similar asks - completely valid to have your own headcanons, but (and this is foreshadowing for the rest of this ask) I am not much of a people pleaser and I will openly disagree, as I'm about to, and this might be a conversation better had in DMs or replies or something because doing so via anon gets to be a lot of back and forth.

I really respect people who relate to Astrid as a survivor of abuse who finds some measure of peace and who simply acknowledges she, Eadwulf, and Caleb all found separate ways to move forward. I completely understand that can be very meaningful and would never take that interpretation from them.

With that said, I happen to personally prefer a view of Astrid who is capable of that bitterness. I like the possibility that she is not just ambitious (which, that on its own is often considered sufficient to lambast female characters; see the Suvi Kedberiket discourses surrounding Worlds Beyond Number) but also very angry, and at times bitter, and at times resentful.

I think a lot of fans struggle with the gray area between unambigously heroic women and unambiguously villainous ones, both because in that gray area is a complexity women in fiction are frequently denied, and also because it requires a look at specific emotions women aren't supposed to have. Women can be sad; they can be traumatized; and they've been granted such qualities as "determined" or "can use a sword" or "leaders" but I think people really still struggle with anger, and especially anger that is not specifically directed towards abusers (like Beau or Yasha or Vex) nor righteous (like Keyleth) but petty or even simply irrational.

I like Astrid as a woman who might hold a grudge she knows intellectually is unfair but who feels it anyway. I think about how she wanted to kill Trent in the moment, and that Fjord (someone whose story is very much about both forgiveness and the legitimacy of grudges and a desire for power) validates her for it even though it's true that Caleb's method of exposing Trent's crimes is probably more effective. I like her as someone who is incredibly intelligent and who probably has an idea of what the "good" thing to do is and still feels a lot of ugly feelings and possibly always will, even though she has found a much healthier way forward. I don't know quite how this interrogation will go, but it is interesting that she's in hiding in Zadash and has apparently not openly broken with the Assembly.

It's funny, because this is on some level what many people want for much of Bells Hells - they want them to be angry at the gods for neglecting them. It's just...they also want that anger to be righteous. And sometimes anger isn't. Anger is often petty and detrimental and yet still very real. What appeals to me about Astrid is that she is very much a complicated person who does straddle a line between ally and antagonist and is permitted a depth and messiness and moral ambiguity that many fans deliberately try to excise from women (and, for that matter, characters of color/in-world racialized characters and many queer characters). So I do like an Astrid who clearly cares for Caleb and for Eadwulf and does not treat them poorly, but does perhaps nurse some privately-held grudges.

ok this one is very much a self-indulgence so I feel better after this TERRIBLE SUMMER SLAM Featuring: CM Punk x Gender neutral reader

CM Punk sat on the bench in the locker room, staring at the floor. The cheers and boos from the arena still rang faintly through the walls, but all he could hear was the echo of the referee's count and the final bell signaling his loss to Drew McIntyre at SummerSlam. His body ached, not just from the physical toll of the match but from the disappointment that settled in his chest like a heavy stone. He had poured everything into this match, and now he was left with nothing but the sting of defeat.

The door creaked open, and you entered quietly, not wanting to disturb the moment's stillness. You had watched the match from backstage, your heart in your throat with every near-fall and submission. Seeing Punk now, shoulders slumped and eyes downcast made your heartache. You walked over to him and sat down, close but not crowding him, giving him space to feel, whatever he needed.

"Hey," you said softly, breaking the silence.

He looked up at you, his expression weary but touched by your presence. "Hey," he replied, his voice barely above a whisper. He ran a hand through his damp hair and let out a shaky breath. "That was... that was rough."

You nodded, reaching out to place a comforting hand on his knee. "Yeah, it was," you agreed, your voice gentle and understanding. "But you were amazing out there. You put on a hell of a show."

He gave a small, humorless laugh, shaking his head. "Doesn't feel like it. All I can think about is losing. Again."

You squeezed his knee reassuringly. "I know it hurts, and it's okay to feel that way. But I also saw a guy out there who fought with everything he had, who never gave up, even when things got tough. You gave the fans a match they'll never forget."

He looked at you, a flicker of gratitude in his eyes. "I just... I wanted to win. I wanted to prove that I still have it, that I can still go toe-to-toe with the best."

"You did prove that," you said earnestly. "It takes a lot of guts to step into that ring, especially against someone like Drew. And you showed everyone that you're still one of the toughest, most talented wrestlers out there."

Punk sighed, leaning back against the lockers. "It's just hard, you know? It feels like every time I get close to something big, it slips away."

You nodded, understanding the frustration and pain in his voice. "I know. But that doesn't define who you are or what you've accomplished. You've done so much in your career, and one match doesn't change that. You're still CM Punk, the Best in the World."

He chuckled softly at your words, a small smile tugging at the corners of his mouth. "You always know how to make me feel better," he said, his voice warm and affectionate.

You smiled back, glad to see some of the heaviness lift from his expression. "It's because I believe in you. And I know this isn't the end. There may be other matches, and other opportunities. But right now, you need to take care of yourself and not beat yourself up over this."

Punk looked at you, his eyes softening. "You're right," he admitted, reaching out to take your hand in his. "I guess I just need to let it go and move on."

You squeezed his hand, feeling the warmth of his skin against yours. "And I'll be right here with you, every step of the way," you said, your voice filled with love and support. "Win or lose, I'm in your corner."

He smiled, a genuine smile this time, and leaned in to rest his forehead against yours. "I don't know what I'd do without you," he whispered, his voice filled with gratitude.

You tilted your head, gently kissing his nose. "Luckily, you don't have to find out," you teased, making him laugh softly. You loved the sound of his laughter, the way it lightened the air around you.

He pulled back slightly, looking into your eyes with a tenderness that made your heart flutter. "Thank you," he said, his voice heartfelt. "For being here, for always supporting me."

You smiled, feeling a warmth spread through your chest. "Always," you replied, leaning in to press a soft kiss to his lips. The kiss was sweet and comforting, a promise of your love.

When you pulled away, you saw the soft, contented look on his face, and it made you smile even more. "Now," you said, your tone lightening, "how about we get you cleaned up and find something to eat? You need to refuel after that match."

Punk chuckled, nodding. "Yeah, I could use some food," he agreed, starting to gather his things. As he stood up, he looked at you with a playful glint in his eyes. "And maybe a drink or two."

You grinned, standing up and helping him pack up. "Sounds like a plan," you said, feeling a sense of peace settle over you. The night hadn't gone as planned, but it didn't matter. What mattered was being there for each other, supporting and caring for one another.

As you left the locker room together, Punk slipped his arm around your shoulders, pulling you close. You leaned into him, feeling the warmth of his embrace and the comfort of his presence. The future was uncertain, but you knew one thing for sure: as long as you were together, you could face anything.

And in that moment, walking side by side, you knew that the real victory was the love and support you both shared.

Alright! So, now that we have the full line-up of the Level 10 Bell’s Hells artwork, I think it’s about time I sat down and gave my personal opinions that nobody asked for about everyone’s styles.

Chetney Pock'o'pea

While I appreciate the more active pose and visible armor as opposed to his more unassuming original design, I am very off-put that he completely abandoned his original color scheme and all shreds of his original aesthetic. I also think the tracksuit is a bit much—listen, I’m a fan of toeing the line of what fashion belongs in a fantasy setting, but I’m pretty sure this fully vaulted over the it and did a full backflip and three-point landing into ridiculous. 3/10

And unfortunately, the same must be said for his Lycan form. This artwork feels like a serious downgrade from the original Chetwolf, which honestly filled me with a shock of horror each time he popped up. The only reason it is higher than base-Chet is that Chetwolf is still a werewolf, and werewolves are badass. 4/10

Laudna

Laudna, on the otherhand, is a total glow-up from her original design. Everything about her design ties together and brings in perfectly her aesthetic and backstory, from the haunting tree embroidery on her dress (akin to the Sun Tree she was hung from) to the little Pate birdhouse backpack (an homage to the Baba Yaga forest witch imagery she picked up), all the while looking so much like the elegant and imposing Delilah Briarwood. Easy 10/10 for me.

Fresh Cut Grass (F.C.G.)

F.C.G.'s new art...isn't bad, but I'm not as wowed by it as some others on this list. Something has clearly changed here in the choice to include his new blue jacket, and I approve! I'm also a fan of the wires having more definition and appearing more purposefully stylized, as if he's taking better care of himself...but the pose and the style just feel a bit lacking to me. 5/10

Fearne Calloway

Honestly, my only gripe with this outfit is the upper-half of her bustier. It feels very cluttered and like there is a lot of fine detail that just ends up being all meshed together. That would be my other only other gripe, too—there's a lot of small, fine details here that makes her feel cluttered. Which, honestly, fits her as the sneaky little hoarder that she is! But yeah, I would've done something else, something cleaner, with the upper half of her bodice. Also, while I know she is a Druid, I don't think she needs the plant growth on her legs... 8/10

Imogen Temult

I would just like to point out that this outfit was unveiled to us as Imogen's choice for winter-wear while traveling through the Crystal Sands Tundra. Is it sexy? Definitely. Is it my personal taste? Mm, not really, but I can see the appeal. Am I upset that even after the semi-canonization of her needing glasses, this bitch is still not a sexy glasses-wearing nerd? Absolutely—but the biggest sin this outfit does is fail to be climate-accurate. -1/10 for improper environment protection, and 7/10 for the outfit itself.

Orym, Savior Blade of the Tempest

I am incredibly torn here. Because, when it comes down to the armor itself, this is a clear winner. Orym's new uniform is a perfect upgrade from his original more humble and simple apparel, becoming much more about function and protection, while still retaining his svelte and limber appearance. The noted upgrade to Seedling is also nice, though I wish it was a bit more pronounced. What pulls me back from really loving this design, though, is his proportions—I feel like his head is way too big, or his limbs are way too skinny. Over all, I have to give this an 8/10.

Ashton Greymoore

Remember at the start how I said I'm all for toeing the line of what fashion belongs in fantasy settings? Yeah, this fucks! From the first episode, we knew that Ashton was a punk, and this just picks that up and runs with it in such a cool, fun way. I legitimately want this entire outfit—fuck cosplay, I'd just wear this irl! It leans enough on his old design to be recognizable, but pops out as truly his own. And the hammer looks wild—I can't wait to see that thing really pop off like crazy in the next fight. Definitely a 10/10 from me!

[ JUNE’S RELATIONSHIP WITH STRAY KIDS ]  part one.

description: Like with all his kids, Chan loves, takes care of, and protects June. There might be some slight (major) favoritism because she’s the only girl in the group but no one can fault him for it. He’s especially protective of her due to the fact that she’s the only girl in the group. During the survival show and trainee days it came off that he was harsher on her, constantly pushing her to do better, but he just wanted to make sure no one could ever deny her talent or spot on the team. Once they debuted he chilled out a bit. Chan sees June as a baby sister. And June sees Chan as her big brother. They definitely tease one another but Chan also helps June braid her hair when she struggles to reach the back of her head, speak English when she’s feeling homesick, and give her big hugs that nearly suffocate her. During their trainee days, June knew about Chan’s terrible sleeping habits, and honestly, she couldn’t judge much as a bit of a night owl herself (but nowhere near Chan’s insomniac level). But what June did to try to help Chan out was go and hang out with him in the studio while he was working. It helped bring him back to the present a bit and let her have time to get homework done while being with someone. When Chan is pulling all-nighters and really wearing himself thin, June will show up during his late nights, do some work, bring some food, and fall asleep on the couch. June knows Chan has a hard time taking care of himself, so if she tricks him into taking care of himself by taking care of her…win win. Chan doesn’t want June staying up all night, or spending the night at the studio, or walking home in the dark, which means he’ll take her back to the dorms. And then end up going to bed early himself. (Our manipulative water sign queen). 

fan favorite moment: During a Channie’s Room while in America he and June got Taco Bell and showed off to Stay the Baja Blast drink, putting on a whole little skit of, “Oh my god I can’t believe we have a drink named after us, they must be such big fans of ours” etc.

description: In the early days of Stray Kids and their debut they were pretty distant with each other, which Lino could not understand why. They hadn’t been super close as trainees, not like him and Seungmin and Jisung, but they were friends. Had similar senses of humor, etc. Hell, June even cried when he debuted (the only time Stay has ever seen her cry). You would think they had never met before they debuted the way they interacted with each other sometimes. At some point Lino (with the help of a certain leader) finally got June to open up to him. Most of the members hadn’t seen June cry much, it took a lot to get her there, and she hated when people saw her cry. So imagine Lino’s surprise when June started crying in front of him, blubbering, snotty, wiping tears off her cheeks and chin, barely able to talk. Lino just pulled her into his arms and let her tears soak his shirt. When June finally came up for air she explained how much pressure she always felt for being the only girl in the group, and knowing that since they were a coed group (since she was in the group) their chances of debuting were slim. When Minho was eliminated from the group she couldn’t help but feel like it was her fault and that it should’ve been her. And even though he came back she could never shake that feeling and she ended up taking it out on him. Lino almost punched her (lovingly) once they talked it all out for being so stupid. But he refrained and instead gave her a big hug, letting her hide her face in his shoulder. After that Lino and June became a horrifying duo released onto the rest of the team, determined to bring terror and chaos wherever they went. They both tease in the same way and will have ‘who can be louder’ contests together at the worst moments. June is also the one who found out Lino’s sides are ticklish and uses that to her advantage at every available opportunity. 

fan favorite moment: In an English interview both Lino and June had been pretty quiet for most of it. At one point they made eye contact with one another, Lino raised an eyebrow, making a face, which June copied and directed back at him. The two both burst into giggles leaving the rest of the group confused at what the hell was going on before leaving it, saying this was a normal thing between them.

fan favorite moment: In a live, June randomly and wordlessly told Hyunjin to sit down in front of her. Hyunjin did so without complaint and once he was in place June began braiding his hair. Once she finished she would leave it for a moment before finger brushing it back out and doing it all over again, intermittently giving Hyunjin little head massages. Hyunjin’s eyes were closed the whole time and he may have dozed off a bit a few times.

Returning to the status quo, after Matt showing through his NPCs that a lot of people are actively harmed by the current systems, would feel kinda meh, to me at least. But it feels like some fans don't want anything to change?

no I think you're completely right, it feels like a lot of fans are very uncomfortable with upending the status quo and very protective of the gods in general. which makes sense, given that the status quo and the gods of the last 2 campaigns is what many fans fell in love with, as well as some of what may have felt like consistent internal logic of the world (gods are flawed but ultimately save people, and answer those most deserving!) now being challenged. it feels like a lot of people are really defensive about the idea that anything even needs to be changed at all, and also seem to lack the imagination, or simply refuse to, consider all of the possibilities that exist between "returning things back to the way they were" and "kill all the gods." any persepective more complex than killing every vanguard member in sight and shutting down any and all discussion of associated ideas is, to a lot of people, seemingly equivalent to wanting Ludinus to become supreme world leader.

of course, the way things were before doesn’t actually exist any more. even if you get every teleportation circle running again and every magically bound prisoner back in place, the world and its people have already been irrevocably changed. Keyleth mentioned there are uprisings and rebellions happening all over Exandria, people who heard Luda's speech and liked the sound of it (while almost certainly knowing nothing abt the man himself, the cruelty he's perpetuated). Are you gonna track down every sympathizer, every doubter of the gods? Will you rebuild the temple in Hearthdell? Will that change the minds of its civilians, or just reinforce that they were right to tear it down in the first place? How many people in Issylra have heard the tale of an angel of the Dawnfather himself coming down to protect his claim? And that the angel died?

You can't close that box. I hope Orym slits Ludinus' throat with the blade that felled his husband, but he's gonna wake up the next day in a world where his ideas, at least, still live. They don't have to be Ludinus' ideas, though. And they don't have to be his methods. But they're not going away.

It’s interesting how Bell’s Hells having much less abrasive personalities than Mighty Nein despite being equally/more broken is something some fans complain about and yet some others find endearing.

I enjoy inter-party conflicts (heck my fav MN “ship” is Empire Kids platonic ship because they fought A LOT) but for Bell’s Hells I fall into the latter category. I just see them as traumatized people who cope differently. They turn inward and close off as a way to response to trauma and I think, in their mindset, being secretive/flippant is a way to not burden their friends about their problem. That is something I relate a lot (and I’m sure many other people too). It makes it much easier for me to root for them to succeed.

And I see it as they just don’t have time to squabble among themselves. There is no question that what they are dealing with are much bigger than their personal problems. This realization was also dawned on Caleb in C2, based on Liam’s words in Talks, how he felt the Cognouza thing were bigger than whatever stuff he had going in his personal life, so he set personal plan aside. That’s how it is with Bell’s Hells but it happened much earlier and they didn’t have time to feel offended when their party member revealed they hid something from them. I feel like they depict the real life adults’ interaction when you like certain people but not too familiar with them yet. If you have to bring up your past or problem you make sure to sound like it’s no big deal or that you’re fine now. The breakdowns and conflicts and encouragements will come in trickles like Laudna and Imogen rock fight or Ashton telling Orym they understand how suck it is to be the only sane one in the group. I love it. I wish the trickles will come more often now that their walls are getting eroded by things they faced together.

Also I love how C3’s stakes are higher than previous campaigns but the party is considerably milder. It does make them look more reactive, but it also creates huge potential of how far they will grow. In EXU Calamity, we saw the end of an age through the lens of powerful people, and it was amazing to watch how these people’s sense of duty made them to give their best effort to save the world.

But I personally don’t want another EXUC. I love how insignificant Bell’s Hells are, how they are “footnote in someone else’s epic” yet they are all tangled up in this world-ending conspiracy and had to be the vital key of undoing it. It makes the whole calamity thing feel personal for them because they experienced failure together when half of them killed by Otohan, went to literally another realm to save their friend, then got manipulated to give the enemy the final key for the apocalypse.

I do wish they will now spend more time exploring their own stories first because, unlike with MN who I came to love once I got to know them, I already love BH now I want to get to know them more.

I don’t feel the cameos of previous characters eclipse BH’s importance to the story because this all still feel like a prologue and all it did is making me more excited for what will these little people do to make difference where the big players of the world are failing to.

Side note: I compare them to MN because I haven’t watch C1 fully and, while I have above opinion, I see where people coming from about the stark difference of the previous campaigns and this one.

Heavy stuff, venting.

I'm having a really, really awful time right now and it just sucks a lot. Things have been tough offline on a lot of levels lately. I don't share much of my creative stuff with people IRL, but it's one of the things that can give me a lot of joy through the day even when things are hard. Creative stuff can mean stories, or designs, or analysis. Even just poking around seeing what other people have done will cheer me up. I've been taking a break from FFXIV for a bit. I didn't play the most recent patch or holiday stuff. Some of the pacing and directions feel like missed opportunities. I might try again in Dawntrail but at this moment I'm taking a break to do BG3 for a bit. I've been interested in DnD for years, and I actually have a million ideas and things I find exciting tied to the Forgotten Realms. Haven't gotten to do more than the very beginning of a campaign because schedule hell but I'd really love to. BG3 has been a chance for me to actually interact with the world on my own terms a bit and it's been a big source of joy for me lately. And I love that Larian put as much thought and layering for the characters psychologically, overall. I love that they generally haven't shied away from stuff either. If I try to look at tags for say, Gale though? Mostly instead of other people making things, I've been getting people who are absolutely furious about how devs talked in a recent interview. I've dealt with characters I love to bits being treated in horrifying ways before. People who were with me when I did Spidey stuff will probably remember some of it. Shit was genuinely incredibly upsetting. I don't think the things people are mad at Larian about are intentional by Larian in the way they're being interpreted. I think this could probably be resolved just by explaining concerns assuming it was unintentional, without rage or accusation. They seem to really care about their fans and given the story told I think they care about their own characters too. Business bits aside. I haven't talked about any of this on tumblr or twitter because like... right now people seem to be a kind of angry where if you aren't angry the way they are, then fuck you you piece of shit basically. But if I'm just trying to make things, or find other people making things, or do analysis? I've just been wading through the anger from other people. It's more stress when I just don't need it. I've tried to find BG3 or DnD discords. I haven't found one for BG3. The DnD ones, I think there's a combination of them being kind of dead and... not really a place for what I do or how I talk. I have two homebrew monsters and a homebrew item I'd love to keep refining but I have no idea how stats work, and I can only really go so far on my own not having done a campaign in any way. Someone suggested I make my own discord community, and I could try, but idk if anyone else would be interested and being in-charge makes me anxious. Same time I'd be really nervous about whether discords run by other people are chill. I desperately, desperately want to avoid drama.

And stupidly I went to the official forums for lack of knowing where else to go. I was surprised that people were nice initially but one person came in and has been making weird personal attacks, backhanded compliments, talking like they're the authority on all things (lore, morality, storytelling as a whole). If you have a different opinion you are wrong and a bad person and stupid too. I genuinely think this person might be a narcissist and they are setting off every possible warning bell with me. Like I'm actually freaked out by how out of touch with reality they are. This person is making shit up that was never discussed, gaslighting like crazy, twisting words, and going into rages claiming I went nuclear when my whole point was 'why the fuck are you being mean to me and trying to boss me around???' I was very much not happy with the person but I was fucking careful not to insult them. And now I think this person doesn't want to leave me the hell alone. And like, I straight up said I don't want to talk to them further. When the user had a MASSIVE GODDAMN TANTRUM full of personal insults and accusations, I didn't reply. I thanked one other person in the forum for mentioning they read the message as hostile too, mentioned my 'leave me alone' message wasn't taken in its intended spirit, and touched briefly on why the accusations hit a particular sore spot. Then I apologized for derailing and switched to discuss character interpretations again.

Lunatic is like 'oh these replies to my message are so interesting, I'm going to answer you all once the website stops glitching'. And I swear to fuck I can hear the strings from Psycho going off.

I don't really trust that forum moderators will intervene. It's been a whole day since my first attempt to report, when the initial message happened. The second message was much worse. I generally don't trust people to take it seriously if harassment like that is happening. My assumption is if it's criminal I need to go to the police but otherwise like... no one is watching out for shit. And there is no block system on those forums.

I AM JUST TRYING TO MAKE CRAP MAN. I CARE ABOUT THE CHARACTERS. I CARE ABOUT AND INTERPRET CHARACTERS IN A WAY NOT EVERYONE ELSE DOES. I DON'T NEED PEOPLE TO AGREE BUT FOR FUCK'S SAKE LET ME MAKE AND TALK ABOUT SHIT IN PEACE. If I touch on a heavy topic, it's because I think it's warranted or adds a layer to the narrative that explains things or otherwise makes sense. People are allowed to tell stories that cover the darker parts of human experience, not just the ones a single specific person approves of! And if you don't fucking like how someone else interprets or makes shit, DON'T READ IT AND MAKE YOUR OWN CRAP.

This was probably horrible interneting in the sense that I shouldn't have replied at all, but what the everloving fuck. How do you go up to random strangers and lead with condescension like that? How do you go through life just assuming everyone different from you has something wrong with them? EDIT: Person has escalated. Not sure what to do. Have reported a lot but no action yet. FURTHER EDIT: Mod showed up and said 'people are allowed to disagree, be nice, there's a hidden ignore button on a separate webpage'. The personal attacks are allowed to stand and TOS seem to be meaningless. Another user pointed out that the lunatic had been recognized as aggressive by two people and that my analysis wasn't unreasonable or uncommon even if they didn't subscribe themselves. This question made me realise I don't read a lot of sequels. The ONLY one I've read so far this year is Hell Bent (the sequel to "Ninth House"). And it was kind of fun. But I didn't love it.

3. New release you haven’t read yet

Hm... I suppose I don't keep up with new releases like I used to. Though Carrie Soto Is Back comes to mind, if that counts as a new release. And Sea of Tranquility from last year. (I accidentally just mispelled that as "Transquility" lol)

4. Most anticipated release for the second half of the year

Okay, so this is super niche and a bit weird, but it might be The Otherworld by Abbie Emmons. I've never actually read anything by her and I'm not sure if it'll be good, but I know her from YouTube and I'm curious. Has anybody else on here read any of her books?

5. Biggest disappointment

Probably The Midnight Library. I had seen so many people raving about this book online, but I HATED it. Genuinely the most amateurish writing I have come across in years. And so, so preachy. Not trying to be mean here. But yeah, it wasn't for me.

Oh, and Kill All Your Darlings by David Bell was also bad, sadly.

6. Biggest surprise

Hm. Birnam Wood was the biggest surprise regarding how much I loved it. And also regarding the ending. And Rock Paper Scissors by Alice Feeney had one of the coolest plot twists I came across this year.

Chloe's shriek is enough to send a high pitch ring through your ears, you shriek back, holding a single finger to the damage cartilage. You sighed as you made your way down the familiar steps of the Bell household, knowing that it would be empty. The bell house was always empty these days, Mrs Bell was off doing her motherly duties and Mr Bell was off to god knows where, which you were more than thankful for. You had never quite gotten over the prickly sick feeling that would weld in your gut when you would eye Jason bell. Watch his gray blue eyes and his calm eerie demeanor that made you want to take Andie by the hand and drag her out of the hell hole.

You also never quite forgot that day in the sycamore tree. Just you and Andie, the day where Andie had held your hand so tightly you thought it would break. Had held it tight and hadn't ever let go. She had told you things about her family, secrets that you would carry to the grave. You knew about Jason and his frequent affairs, knew that Dawn Bell was a woman with a painted smile, knew that Becca Bell harbored such disdain for her father it often portrayed itself in harmful acts but perhaps the most powerful impact had been Andie.

Things had changed since that day on the sycamore tree. First of all you both were no longer eight years old, gone was the soft Andie bell you had known, and in her place was a tempest, a storm. Cruel words dripped from her lips like acid rain, and you wondered how the same heart that once held yours so gently could now wield a blade. Andie was just as cold and quick to bite, she was a narcissist, in every word. You knew that even back when you had first met her, but that hadn't mattered to you. Not then.But now you weren't so sure.

"Are we boring you y/n? You look like you've seen a ghost! Got a lot on your mind?" Chloe's voice broke into your head. Ever since you both entered year 10 and you had tried out for the school's drama team and had met a certain blonde hair by the name of Nat De Silva Andie was always finding some unique way to sabotage it.

You don't know how it started, this hold that Andie had on you. That was a lie you told yourself, you knew just when it had happened. That day on the sycamore tree, when Andie had cried real tears, and you saw the real broken little girl hiding under that tough little pufferfish act she had put on for others. As the years went on you stayed by Andie’s side, stayed through the soft subtle changes. When Andie hit thirteen she was no longer the girl who climbed sycamore's. She traded in her trainers for heels, her laughter for a cool indifference. The sycamore tree became off-limits, and you watched from afar as she became a stranger. She cared about her looks, would buy makeup and cute little outfits that made your head spin. She'd snap and say things to Chloe and Emma, things that made your stomach coil in rage.

"Why don't you just shut up Chloe?? No one wants to hear about your pathetic family life!"

"Oh em, when will you learn that you won't ever look like me?"

"God Chloe what's wrong with you?? Besides the obvious surface flaws?" You remember that day, watching Andie spit out the words in the canteen. She looked different, angry, her eyes held no warmth in them, devoid of the frost blue color you had grown to love. Yet when it came to you it was like Andie flipped a switch. She was never rude to you, never shot you down or made you cry like the others. Perhaps it was because of the bond you shared. But she was quick to eye anyone who got near you, Andie bell had a jealous streak and when it came to you it was hard to contain.

So when Nat de Silva had taken you aside after drama it had taken not even a minute before Andie was by your side, blue clever conniving eyes eying Nat, like a predator eying prey. "Who was that? That girl you were just taking too? She seemed keen on you, a bit to touchy for my liking".

You had creases your eyes and eyed Andie. "Just a new friend. Met her in drama. No need to get all upset".

"I am not upset I was just wondering who was taking up all your time. Let's go, the girls are waiting" she had taken you by your shoulders.

"I was thinking of having the girls bring some sleeping bags, but I remember you mentioning you didn't have one. You wouldn't mind sharing my bed would you? I promise I won't bite".

You feel the air get sucked out of your lungs at the prospect of sharing Andie bell's bed. And the fact that no other girl had been given the opportunity.

Andie's smirk was wide, her eyes eying you, you pretended not to notice the sly eye fuck she gave you, blue grey's zeroing in on your skirt. You eyed the floor, "I'll see you when I see you Andie. Enjoy the rest of the sleep over girls". You didn't miss the way Andie's eyes darkened.

Sorry for all the pings as I try to figure out wtf I wanna do formatting wise.

I’m uncertain what your starting knowledge of it is so forgive me if I’m rehashing stuff you’ve already heard. Discworld is a set of books written by the late Terry Pratchett, and they’re all fantasy (which is more or less relevant depending on the book), comedy, and satire that riffs on a bunch of topics. Reccing a starter book is always a fun and tricky time because if you ask literally any discworld fan for a reading order you’ll get a very long answer and it’ll be different from the next guy because we’re all Very enthusiastic to get people to read it and Very opinionated on the ideal path.

That’s because with one exception (sorta), every book really does just stand on its own? There’s a bunch of mini series that do have continuity, but knowing what happened before is nice but really important because each book deals with what it’s about and he’ll tell you any important context as it comes up. Like I honestly read them first in whatever order I could borrow them from my library and what I found in stores or on amazon (back when they primarily just sold books lol) and that really does just work fine. I’ve got more to say but if you wanted to just stop reading here with my blessing to go crazy go stupid and just read blurbs until something vibes that’s A okay.

That said I would steer clear of the first 2-3 books he wrote for discworld, not because they’re bad (I like them quite a lot!) but because they’re not really representative of what the series becomes. He’s still very noticeably figuring out what he wants to do with this space in the first two, and is more firm on it through the third. By the fourth book, Mort, the foundations of the world are a lot more defined and it starts the voice of the books that carries until the last couple books when his health went on the decline. So like, if come bell or high water you decide to follow him through his process from the beginning because starting in the middle feels too off putting, you Can go for The Colour of Magic which is immediately followed by The Light Fantstic, but just know that the vibes’ll change. But it’s about this wizard named Rincewind who very much wishes things would stop happening to him and the disc’s first ever tourist Twoflower who Loves when things happen so he can take a picture of it and remember it for his memoire. Meanwhile Rincewind is trying his very best to not let them die.

If you wanted to start where I did, you can start with The Wee Free Men which is YA, and since most of them are not, it like, doesn’t have much to do with anything else going on for the first couple books in the Tiffany Aching series. The first book is about the coming of age of Tiffany, who recently decided that she wanted to be a witch because she likes knowing things, and the people in her community somewhat recently killed this old lady for being a witch, but was really probably just old and lonely in her isolation. As she’s making these resolutions a faerie queen steals her younger brother and she takes issue with that, and with the help of some funny little blue men that really like to test the age rating of this book, go on An Adventure to get her brother back.

If you want a lot to chew on afterwords as far as fanfic goes, you can start with the city watch series in Guards! Guards! and follow Samuel Vimes on his road to recovery from his alcoholism as he tries to live up to his ideals of what a watchman should be and oh gosh oh fuck oh beans why the hell is a dragon here burning shit? Better consult an expert, except that expert is a lady who breeds dragons but those dragons are a sneeze a way from a messy alchemical explosion and the group of ladies whose hyperfixation this is are like if quilting groups were horse breeders. I’m sure this won’t be relevant. Tumblr girlies love love love shipping vimes so if fan content is something you want to be sure of, this is a good pick. The city watch books also happen to be my personal favorites.

Speaking of tumblr girlies, everyone seems to be big into Monstrous Regiment again? Very fun one off (not part of a series) about Polly who is trying to recover her brother who went off to war, and basically mulans it to figure out where he is if he’s still alive. Except whoops! The new recruits she’s trying to fake it amongst are Also women who joined up for one reason or another. There’s a lot of queer and trans vibes here honestly which is pretty cool for something that was published in 2003. (Although not what I would argue is the first, that one is in the city watch books and I’ll expand if you want.

If the Tiffany books seemed interesting but you’re not in the mood for YA, then the witches series is like that but more mature, where Wyrd Sisters is a comedic riffing of hamlet and macbeth. (Technically the second book in the witches series, but the first is Equal Rites and is pratchetts third book that I mentioned is somewhat tonally different from everything else.)

In a similar vein if Rincewind trying to survive sounded fun, but you’re deciding to not start at the Very beginning like most advise, then Sourcery is the third book in the Rincewind series, someone too OP to exist hits the scene like a brick in a sock to the face… and Rincewind copes by… running away. Except there’s problems literally everywhere? Maybe more running will save him?

There’s more than 40 books, and that’s some starting points, but if you wanna click around and maybe get spoilers if you scroll too far, there’s also the wiki (which isn’t fandom blessedly) most of these have lil blurbs on em and quite a few have plot synopsis so if that’s territory you’re willing to tread here’s Literally Everything lmao. The only things on here I haven’t read at least once are The Science of Discworld mini series, so if there’s anything you want further opinions on feel free to dm me or something.

I also just have a lot of other stuff and my room is just too small.

Does caffeine make you hyper? Nope. It helps take some edge off, but otherwise it does nothing anymore. I just genuinely like coffee so I still drink it.
