Fandom: Honkai Star Rail

Characters: Caelus, Dan Heng, Welt Yang, Jing Yuan, Blade, Aventurine x gn! Reader

Caelus was surprised when he first heard you sing but after a moment to appreciate it, he’s not going to be able to resist humming along, immediately blowing his cover.

He’s definitely going to join in when you’re singing songs he knows and likes, whether he’s a good singer or not. If he can make you smile or laugh by doing that, he’s achieved his mission.

But at the same time, he loves hearing your voice alone. He’s especially fond of quiet days where he can relax with you, listening to you sing whatever song comes to mind.

I think Caelus’ favourite Hazbin Hotel song would be “Respectless”. He’s certainly been that a few times on his travels and he loves the sass you put into your voice whenever you sing it.

Out of everyone, I think Dan Heng would be the only one not surprised to hear you sing. He’s got a lot of knowledge about a lot of things so I think he would be able to tell you’d have a nice singing voice from the way you talk.

However, that doesn’t mean he isn’t going to enjoy listening to you. Whether you notice him or not, he’ll encourage you to keep singing while he works.

Occasionally, he may hum along to a song, but he generally prefers hearing your voice without any other auditory distractions.

This may seem like a strange match at first, but I think Dan Heng would like “Ready for This”. He likes the music, sure, but he also really enjoys hearing how different characters change throughout the song.

This music lover has found his soulmate. He’s sure of it. Someone who can sing as well as you can is the perfect match for someone who likes listening to singing as much as he does.

If you’re singing to yourself, Welt will do his best to quiet so he doesn’t interrupt you. He wants to keep listening for as long as possible.

He really wants to request songs from time to time but for the most part, he’s happy with whatever you pick.

I can see his favourite Hazbin Hotel song being “More Than Anything” just for the slow loving vibes. He might not be much of a singer, but he would like to duet this song with you.

Oh, Jing Yuan’s going to be insufferable as soon as he finds out how well you can sing. He’ll always be humming, hinting at you to sing something.

Has fallen asleep listening to you more than once. Thankfully he wasn’t doing anything important at the time…

Jing Yuan definitely has a nice singing voice, so he’d enjoy joining you in your songs sometimes, especially if it’s a duet.

This man loves “Loser, Baby”. That’s all that needs to be said here. He likes how fun it is while still conveying a good message.

I feel like Blade might be initially indifferent to your singing abilities. They’re not useful in combat so what’s the point of them?

At the same time, he’s likely to sulk around until you feel like singing yourself. As soon as that happens, he’s back on his A-game.

Because even though he claims not to care, Blade loves listening to you sing. There have been few sleeps as good as the ones he’s had after falling asleep to your voice.

Blade’s favourite Hazbin Hotel song is “Hell is Forever”. He originally thought it was going to be edgy and instead ended up really liking it for what it is.

I haven’t really had a lot of experience with Aventurine either as a character or writing for him so hopefully this isn’t too out of character, but I think he’d love your singing if only because it’s better than the music that plays in game.

Whenever he walks into a building that normally has music playing, he’ll turn it off (somehow) so your voice takes over.

I can’t see him singing along but he might hum a few notes if you’ve been quiet for a while and he wants to hear you sing. He can’t blow his cover, so he’s got s drop subtle hints that he wants you to sing for him.

I think his favourite Hazbin Hotel song would be Stayed Gone. It seems to match the vibe he’s got going on and I definitely see some similarities between Aventurine and Vox.

here's a question that has probably been asked before: how did you come up with you rewrites for the characters? all of the backstories you gave them are really interesting and, while I haven't read the originals in a long time, I think I like what you did more. I found your work only in the past couple days, but I like it a lot; your versions of the creeps feel the most like real people that I've found since my interest in them reignited. but yeah, love your work.

Firstly, thank you very much!! I tried really hard to make them much more realistic/three dimensional instead of just “oohhh I like to kill people!!” Ya know? I’m glad that people like you over time have liked that aspect of them :)) Prepare for some rambling though-

As for coming up for their specific backstories, that’s a little hard to answer I think just because of how long it’s been since I started doing that. I’ve been into the creeps since I was 11 and I’m turning 23 in a couple weeks so, it’s been a long ride. The creeps grew up alongside me and I think for some of them their stories just sort of evolved in my mind over the years. I mean I’ve literally been in the fandom for longer than several creeps like Toby, Pup, Helen, etc.

The basics are just I’d look at the original story for most of them, decide what I think I could keep, and what I’d like to change. For a creep like Toby, I wanted him to still have a good relationship with his mom and sister, and I still wanted his sister to die, but for Natalie I made her brother an ally to her and someone she loves and trusts instead of one of the bad guys. But I mostly wanted to make the writing darker and more in depth, I wanted them to be darker and more realistic as people.

I also wanted different backgrounds for them, like Toby/Helen/Natalie coming from very rich and influential families, EJ in my canon growing up in a cult, Jason and LJ both being toys instead of just LJ, things like that.

The thing about rewriting them I think is that most of the OG stories are not… The best written stories ever? Most of them were written by preteens/teens and not the most realistic pieces of media. Like in Jeff’s, being burned by fire made his hair turn black and his skin turn white, which is not really how fire and burns work?? And then he went on to burn off his eyelids which also not a great idea? I’ve actually had people get upset that my Jeff has eyelids but like if he didn’t he would be completely blind and in literal agony because his eyes would be completely dried out. That’s not a great design imo, but it was also written by a child so like, that’s why.

Most of my designs just sort of pop into my head randomly though. I get an idea like for BEN I wanted him to be close to his mom, but I didn’t want her to still be living so I went okay, how do I expand on that? And that’s how I came up with my version of his story, with his mom dying young from illness and his father being abusive and resentful.

I wish I had a better way of explaining it but that’s just sort of my general thought process. I started to look at them more as individual characters/OCs instead of just the original lore, which I mean most blogs for the creeps these days have their own lore too. I don’t think my creeps are the best ones ever (except in my heart), but I also had a lot of fun writing them and coming up with their backgrounds. I got influenced a lot by songs and media and they just gradually came into fruition :) I’m glad they were good enough to reignite your interest.

“Huh? Yeah I’m paying attention.” The boy in question muttered, his cheeks now tinted red. 

Gareth was once again caught staring at the popular table, full of people who shoot balls into laundry baskets as Eddie called it. 

Well not at the table specifically. More like someone sitting at the table. With their dickhead boyfriend. Who just had to play the previously mentioned shoot balls into laundry baskets game. 

“Uh-huh. Sure you were. Anyway, I was talking about how Y/N and Andy were caught arguing behind the school yesterday and-”

“What?!” Gareth whisper screamed, now clearly invested in the story. 

“Ha! Knew you were looking over at Y/N’s table again.” Jeff chuckled. 

“You need to get over your little crush Gareth, not to be the reality fairy but there's no way they even know you exist.” Eddie said, before rolling his eyes. 

Gareth ignored Eddie and turned to Jeff. “So were you lying about Y/N and Andy having relationship issues?” Gareth frowned, secretly hoping the relationship would turn to shit so he could swoop in and act as a knight in shining armor. Maybe just in time for prom.

“No actually. Apparently they were arguing in that alleyway outside during basketball practice. Y/N seemed pissed. Apparently they were arguing about how Andy never wants to do shit they want too, how they have completely different interests, etc.” 

“Gareth, If you care so much why don’t you just talk to Y/N and, I dunno save them from the evil force that is highschool jocks?” Eddie questioned. 

Fuck, it was a very good question. 

“Well even if I was on Andy's radar he’d kick my ass. Simple as that.”

“And he won’t after you quote unquote get the girl?” Eddie tilted his head, poking holes in Gareth’s very flimsy logic. 

And on that note, lunch was over. 

Oh well, it didn’t exactly help Gareth’s mood. But he did catch himself smiling while you and Andy were screaming at each other in the gym.

You and Chrissy often joked Andy could win the worst boyfriend of the year award, although you had doubts he wouldn't lose to Jason. You kept those to yourself though. 

“No offense taken.” Chrissy smiled. “If you hate it so much, why don’t you just sit somewhere else?” She asked. 

You sighed again. “Andy.” You muttered. 

It was the week before prom, and you were thanking the heavens Andy decided to skip today. 

“You don’t like him that much either.” Chrissy chuckled. “Why don’t you just call it quits? Don’t you have your heart set on another boy anyway?” 

“Well yeah, but I doubt he even knows who I am, unless you count ‘Andy’s new girlfriend who won't even last a month’. After all, I’m just a teenage dirtbag, and he’s Gareth the great.” 

“Wouldn’t he qualify as more of a teenage dirtbag than you?” 

“Well- I don’t even know anymore.”

“I have an idea.” Chrissy smiled. 

“Does it involve breaking up with Andy and getting the boy of my dreams?”

“Yep.” She giggled. 

“I’m in.”

“There's no way I’m going to prom. First off it’d be depressing as hell to show up without a date, and second off I'd probably end up watching Andy and Y/N be all coupley and shit.” Gareth groaned. 

Eddie looked taken aback. 

“You’re telling me you don’t know?”

“Y/N broke up with Andy this morning. He’s pissed, apparently he stormed out of the school.” Eddie chuckled. 

“Yeah, Nancy said she heard him fuming about how he has no date to prom now.” Dustin chimed in. 

“Maybe prom night’ll be your chance?” Jeff questioned

“I mean, can we be too sure though? Y/N still doesn’t even know I exist-” Gareth stuttered, trying to come up with an excuse to not go. 

“Well either way I’m making you go with me, if my mom finds out I’m going alone or all my friends have dates she’ll probably try to set me up with the neighbor. “ Jeff groaned. 

Great. Now there was no way for Gareth to get out of this.

This is such a great question because I love music so much.

I hadn't heard this song before, I just listened to it and I definitely see what you mean, that's a good song.

I have several playlists for them and my writing, for the most part whenever I hear a song I find one way or another to tie it back to the enforcers, so I have a playlist for songs that have inspired some scenes, a playlist for songs that make me think of Finn and Valmont’s messy relationship (it's not even a headcanon to me anymore, they are bitter exes) and then character mixtapes for Finn, Chow and Ratso, songs I think they'd listen to.

Most songs I listen to apply to a scene or relationship dynamic, but as for character specific songs I think "Gilded Lilies - Sped Up" by Cults, "PINCH ME" by young friend, and "All These Things That I've Done" by The Killers are Finn's SONGS. They belong to him. (All These Things That I've Done makes me cry thinking about him)

Marina belongs to Chow, every song from the Family Jewels album hits so hard for him. "Oh No!" "Are You Satisfied?" "Hermit the Frog" "Seventeen" and "The Family Jewels" all hit so goddamn hard for him and his complicated relationship with his family.

Ratso I have a harder time locking down his emotions because he's the most emotionally stable of any of them and he's got a good family so less opportunities for angst but "Family Lines" by Conan Gray hits so hard on the absent father beat. "How You Remind Me" by Nickelback and "Show Me How To Live" by Audioslave are my go-tos for him

Valmont I still do not know what music this man listens to, if he listens to music at all. He could be one of those people that only listen to audio books (the horror) any songs for him are applied to his relationship with Finn, for which I have "K." by Cigarettes After Sex, "Habits" by Genevieve Stokes, "Step On Me" by The Cardigans, "This Night Has Opened My Eyes" by The Smiths, "using you" by Mars Argo, "Christmas Kids" by Roar, and many others. Cigarettes After Sex has a very gentle vibe that meshes well with the quiet moments V and Finn share on occasion.

Its hard to explain how each song is relevant because they are each important to different parts or dynamics in my fic, my writing is very heavily inspired by and swayed by music, so when I hear a new song it unlocks a new part of the story I hadn't known what to do with yet, discovering new music is an active part of my creative process because of that.

I'll link my playlists below just be aware my writing playlist is a jumbled mess of songs that have inspired at some point or another, whether they are all still relevant is up for debate.
