Ghost was many things, but amongst it all, he silently took pride in being good at reading people.

At first, he didn’t know exactly why he was doing it, and later he’d come to realize it was an amusing game for him, oddly enough, considering Simon Riley was never a man to bask in mundane pleasures.

It started with the rumors around the base about the allegedly cute new head doctor. Simon had been around these men for long enough to grow used to their touch deprived selves thirsting over literally any woman that came close to their general vicinity, so at first the talk didn’t stir his curiosity - it almost never did; he didn’t like to gossip. This changed one morning when he woke up with a killer headache, and unwillingly made way to the infirmary to try and get some painkillers. Gingerly knocking on the door and waiting for the approval of whoever was on the other side - which came in the form of a meek ‘come in’ - he had completely forgotten about the rumors going around until he set foot in the room and instantly came across the new head doctor.

They didn’t do it justice. You weren’t cute, you were a fucking spectacle.

He blinked, seemingly expressionless behind the mask, but he embarrassingly had to admit he might have let his gaze wander more than usual as you looked up from the papers you were looking over, clearly confused as to why you heard your door open but not a word out of the person who came in, and, as you did so, he recognized all the emotions people felt whenever they looked at him for the first time: confusion, shock - be it by his sheer absurd size or the mask - and, lastly, intimidation. It wasn’t unusual, but he’d be lying if he said it didn’t bother a very hidden part of him, the fact he was intimidating such a small and seemingly harmless woman such as yourself. He had half a mind to speak first, but you beat him to it.

“Oh, uh…Hello, er, Lieutenant Ghost? How can I help you?” You clearly fiddled with your fingers as you stared at him with wide eyes, refusing to meet his gaze. Simon was slightly annoyed you already knew who he was - the whispers about him on base weren’t exactly positive, and he wondered what you might have heard.

“Yeah. Got one fuckin’ headache, I need some meds.” He was aware of how much more coarse his already gruff voice sounded, courtesy of the annoying pain and the sour mood he was already in, and took notice of the way the sound of it made your eyes widen even more. Clearing your throat, you mumbled something in agreement, heading to a cabinet near your desk, and he couldn’t help but watch you like a hawk - entranced by how you looked with the clearly frantic tied up hair and the white lab coat moving in tandem with your body. You looked so small compared to him and the thought made him more satisfied than he’d like to admit.

Finally reaching the drawer you were looking for, you searched it around for a bit until grabbing a small blister with four duo colored pills, hastily making your way over to Ghost and handing him the medication. You gave some instruction on how he should take it - once every six hours, if the pain didn’t go away, but not more than three a day - but he barely registered it, too caught up on watching you from above. Deciding to end your torture, he looked over at the blister on his hand and raised it slightly as if it were a toast.

“Cheers. Thanks, doc.”

With that, he left, not going unnoticed how surprised you were at his cordialness.

After that, he unconsciously made a habit out of it, popping into your office for the stupidest of reasons and he wasn’t even sure why; he’d find himself gravitating towards the infirmary, like a lost dog, to the point you updated his file with the recently known information that he had constant headaches - he didn’t. Simon took some sort of sick pleasure from watching you squirm under his gaze, never able to keep his eye contact for long, even more so when you heard his voice, and things took an interesting turn when he realized you probably weren’t intimidated - but flustered instead. It clicked with him one day as he entered your office in casual clothes before heading to the gym and you thought you were being subtle about the way you ogled his arms in the tight black shirt he was wearing. As he was leaving, he subconsciously turned to grip the doorway above him - not by much - to bid you goodbye, and he couldn’t help but to smirk under the mask when your eyes widened and your face visibly reddened at the motion.

So, he decided to test his theory. That day, he didn’t even need to fake a headache to go see you, he actually had gotten injured when helping out with some maintenance, a moment of recklessness giving him a cut on his hand. If it were another circumstance, he would just have taken care of it himself, considering how desensitized he was to pain these days, but for once he had a good reason to bother you, so that’s exactly what he did. Even if his presence made you so shy, this time you couldn’t help but look at him with worry as he entered the infirmary.

“Ghost, you really have to look into those headaches of yours.”

“Not my head this time.”

He showed you the bleeding cut on his hand, and almost chuckled at the way your eyes widened and you got into professional mode, hastily walking around to gather materials he knew all too well - gauze, iodine, all fun stuff. Simon was used to the sting of stitches, but they rarely felt as gentle as you did it, the way he relished on how close you were while fixing his hand, a focused flash in your eyes, not helping his case one bit, even if it was slightly disappointed how all of your shy nature disappeared the moment you had to be professional. He could appreciate how good you were at what you did, though.

Too soon for his liking, you were done, going around mumbling about a specific anti-inflammatory you were going to give him while he admired the neat work on his hand. Still sitting on the infirmary bed, he watched as you realized where the medication was, which just so happened to be on the tallest shelf of the medication cabinet. You sighed, grumbling about the reckless nurse that always messed with the placement of the medications, too caught up in trying to stand on your tiptoes to reach it that you missed Ghost moving right behind you, noticing only when his torso was inches away from your back and he had one hand gingerly touching your waist, the way you shivered not going unnoticed. He indulged in the way you stilled, turning to look at him with a surprised expression, and he almost chuckled at how adorable your eyes looked when wide like that, but, instead, he only looked down at you for a few moments before effortlessly getting the medicine box from the shelf - which was almost at his eye level - and handing it to you, putting minimal distance between your bodies. Mumbling a small ‘thanks’ you averted your eyes from him, visibly gulping while you quickly found the blister inside the box and handed it to him. However, even after taking it from your hands, he made no move to leave, keeping his stare at you while tilting his head lightly to the side.

“Do I make you flustered, Doc?”

You blinked, processing his words before opening and closing your mouth like a fish and looking to the side, breaking eye contact.

“…Yes. I knew you were doing it on purpose…” You mumbled, embarrassed, and he finally chuckled, not a bit ashamed that you caught him red handed.

He was never so glad to be able to read people so well as that day, when he went back to his room leaving behind a bashfully grinning you and the promise to take you out on a real date whenever you’d be free.

you loved him so much. the two of you screamed and acted and danced to dear evan hansen, in the heights, be more chill, hamilton – you danced in his living room, accidentally waking his sister up but laughing your asses off after. you sang your hearts out on a rooftop, playing the guitar and eating froyo. you would do absolutely anything just to experience that feeling with him again. ...turns out, you both had crushes on each other at the same time but never made advancements. it was something the two of you truly regretted, but joke about it from time to time.

oh man. he gave you hugs all the time – arriving at school, during breaks, everything. everyone thought you two were dating because of how close you were – but turns out... he fell in love with someone instead. it was fun while it lasted; the cuddles during break, the singing sessions in the hallway when you brought your guitar to school, passing notes to each other in class and playing tic tac toe, the gossiping in class and the back and forth memes. it was fun while it lasted, tbh. he hid many things from you as well... but your friendship remained strong. only the friendship.

you laughed at his jokes you thought were funny in english class. the quiet snickers that you failed to stifle because you thought he was the funniest person in the world. you "tagged along" – read: looked through the class window at him – for student council meetings (even though you wasn't in student council) because you thought it was funny. he had a good laugh though. the two of you didn't end up dating, but both of you are still friends until today. you miss the times when you were closer, but appreciative of the memories you had made.

the definition of a true enemies to lovers situation. he didn't like you because you were part of a friend group of people he wasn't a fan of, and you didn't like him because he was too standoffish. once you got to know each other better, though... he was actually really sweet. he was a band kid as well. :") the two of you almost ended up dating, but decided against it because of studies. something you regretted, though. he was such a sweet person, always checking up on you, passing you notes during class, not-so-accidentally kicking your chair to get your attention.

the neighbour, diluc.

the nights where you would wake up at 2am and see his room light still on. the times when he used to come over for dinner, and the two of you end up discreetly cuddling on the couch, talking about anything and everything you thought of. he taught you about boys, about genshin, about a lot of things. i remember when he fell asleep against my legs once because of food coma – that was funny, ngl. not so funny when you needed the bathroom, but it was a soft moment nonetheless. you would do anything to experience that euphoric feeling again.

voting rights: ok this mostly us-centric, but i’ll be referencing several other countries’ policies. obviously voting rights in the us are kind of a hot mess. from voter suppression to gerrymandering to the actual counting system to felons’ lack of rights. so here’s a couple priorities, not in any particular order: 1) popular vote national elections. none of this electoral college bullshit. the idea that a state is a fundamental unit that needs rights in a national election is bullshit. it drowns out minorities in each state (california conservatives, wyoming democrats, etc). 2) limits of voter purges. this one is kinda obvious, but states use really fucked mechanisms for voter roll purges as a form of voter suppression. 3) automatic voter registration + same day voting registration. the fact is that the system is designed to be as inconvenient as possible on purpose. we need to make it way easier to register + vote 4) some sort of geographic / population requirement for polls + ballot dropboxes. again, one i haven’t fully hammered out in my head, but we need to actually put numbers into the law wrt to how much time and effort a state can legally make a voter put in to vote. 5) universal mail in voting w/ the deadline according to the date of post-marking, not the date of arrival. this is obvious. for people in rural areas, disabled people, people who are simply too busy. 6) make election day a national holiday + make it a saturday + make it illegal for employers to give any less than 6 hours off. most laws are state based, and some don’t even have laws forcing employers to give any time off. obviously, this affects the working class the most. frankly, one of the most common reasons cited for not voting is that people were simply too busy. 7) ranked voting. this is the one where you rank n candidates from 1st choice to nth choice. it would stop people from strategically voting one of the 2 parties’ candidates because independents can’t break through. would also probably decrease polarization, and takes into account the people you really don’t want in power. another option is ranking each candidate from 1-5 or smth. 8) independent districting. a few states have this, but it needs to be national policy for independent committees w/ equal republicans, equal democrats, and equal independents. here’s an example of what some states do. in many states, the politicians currently in power draw the redistricting map for the next election. gerrymander away i guess. an interesting tidbit: iirc HR1 proposes this + has some actual numbers like “if a candidate can win with x% of the vote or less your districting isn’t allowed” and those could have real power. 9) dc statehood + puerto rico statehood + some form of congressional representation for all the us territiories.

parenting culture: ok so i have lots of opinions on this like i know i’ve never been a parent obv, but i’ve been doing tutoring and daycare work for kids ranged 6 from 8th grade to high schoolers more recently. first of all, grounding is like such a fucked concept in general, especially as a punishment for bad grades. like it makes total sense to be like “hey you gotta time block x hours for homework, put ur phone away during hw, and check in with us every day until shit gets back on track” or something like that. but i’ve seen parents (not often luckily) be like “you’re grounded so you can’t go out with friends, do fun extracurriculars, or have the internet or read books for fun (<- that last one is less common but my parents did it 💀)” which in general is like wtf. that’s basically an exhaustive list of all the things a kid uses for relaxation. taking all of that away and only allowing a kid to do work is the fastest recipe for a kid that’s burnt out, unable to focus, and frustrated. you need to link the consequences to the problem, and the consequences should also be remedial in some form. that often does mean added supervision, but some of this is just like detrimental and damaging. also, if schoolwork, if scheduled and time managed properly, is taking so much time a kid has no time for fun, there’s a bigger problem that’s either a) the school is teaching your kid poorly / assigning too much work or b) your kid genuinely needs extra help and accommodations in the classroom. outside of more supervision during hw time, there’s no reason to like ban socialization + activities, all of which are essential to a child’s growth and mental health. your child needs to unwind after a school day and homework, which might i remind you, is a lot of work for children!!! also, this is kind of a pet peeve, but the entire you can’t have the opposite sex in ur room with the door closed is just so funny like it doesn’t even inspire rage in me just mocking laughter wow the heteronormativity really jumped out lol. also, this is kind of weird again, but you should probably have a conversation with your children about religion + religious freedom at some point, especially if they grow up in a household that practices religion actively. like at some point if your child is like “i don’t want to go to church / the kovil / other religious house of worship” or expresses desire to drop other religious practices like prayer, or fasting, or something of the like, you should let them. like i am a very big believer in children’s religious freedom lol. uhhh finally this one is more geared towards parenting culture around teenagers + high schoolers, but i generally feel like the correlation of grades with how “good” your child is is really fucked. like i’m sorry if you raised a kind, polite, honest child and you made them think they were “a bad kid” or deserved to be punished for bad grades get out. like obv encourage academic growth if your child is into that, but don’t punish a lack of academic success. a few positive things tho: you should teach your child how to do chores and also cook food. like when hammering out a chores schedule, i’d suggest allowing them some freedom in what time of day they do the chores, but they’re life skills that need to be taught, even if kids complain (i certainly did). another strange one: uhhh immigrant parents from outside the anglosphere please take care to pass on your mother tongue to your child. like this is one of those things where it’s better to teach them now than later. growing up bilingual is a lot easier than relearning a mother tongue. speak your mother tongue at home. if you’re worried about your child learning english properly for school, most public schools have language remedial courses or something of the like. also your cuisine if possible. a final one: your high schooler is probably stressed the fuck out. studies show that the increasing amount of homework, the increased competitiveness of college, and the fact that the school start time is way too early for teens’ sleep schedules. like we know there are pervasive mental health and depression problems linked directly to how much work and stress high schoolers have to deal with, which leads to poorer sleeping habits, poorer mental health, and increased substance use as a coping mechanism. before you add more stress to their lives by “pushing” them towards more competitive colleges, maybe take this into consideration. also maybe consider if this is why you feel like your kid went through the stereotypical teenage phase. was it hormones making them cranky or was it sleep depression and stress? just try to avoid adding pressure onto them, especially in junior year and the first half of senior year. finally, there’s no need to make your teenage daughter shave. period. also, liberal families please maybe check yourselves on this one. maybe think about why you pressure your daughters to shave your legs but not your sons, and then go on to talk about gender equality. stop pretending it’s “a part of hygiene” or “basic grooming and self care”.

cereal brands: ok this is the most light hearted one 😊. ranked in order of acceptably health to wtf, i like a few cereal brands, specifically raisin bran (unpopular opinion i know 🙄), honey bunches of oats, and if i feel like a treat, cinnamon crunch toast :)

1. why did you choose your url?

why did i choose this url? i saved the url way before i made the blog, and the reasoning is a bit foggy but i do remember wanting to be very clear on it being a drarry blog (makes the anon who sent me the ‘why do u rb so much drarry’ ask that much more hilarious) and added the ‘oh’ because it expresses a certain sentiment that most drarry shippers are intimately familiar with 😂

2. sideblogs?

this blog is itself a sideblog, my main is @yesperfahey . that said, i am going to be embarrassingly exposed, but:  @kitchenism (aesthetic sideblog where i rb reference photos, aesthetic images, web weaving posts, etc.), @geetstudies (studyblr), @yusufalkasayni (for films/tv shows, it was supposed to inspire me to watch more stuff but it’s languishing inactive mostly), @doriangray (dark academia, classics, pretty edits + moodboards + occasional fashion inspiration, etc.), @psykhes (mythology), @andrewminyyard (for aftg and trc) and @stevenroguers (for marvel and stucky). i have a few others but they aren’t particularly relevant or active and i don’t want this to go on forever.

5. why did you start your blog?

i started my main because tumblr was the fandom hub and i was neck deep in drarry as a teenager, but this specific sideblog happened when i started segregating my interests into separate blogs and wanted to be more active specifically in the drarry fandom. 

6. why did you choose your icon?

it’s a picrew of me from my favourite picrew!! it’s too slytherin from back when i thought i was a slytherin and i might change the colours a little to fit the ravenclaw vibe better, but the slightly grumpy lesbian is here to stay <33 

7. why did you choose your header?

i searched up drarry headers and this was one of the first ones i found. i think i’m going to change it, because while it does fit the aesthetic of my blog, i’m all about desi!harry. much as i love dan radcliffe, he’s stopped being the harry i imagine in my head.

Instruments: OHHHH!! i learned piano from my big sister when i was little, then joined marching band (to play drums, but that didn’t happen) in 6th grade on flute!! i did marimba my sophomore year of high school and LOVED it, but i've more or less been on flute for like 8 years now :> or, well. was? i had to drop out of marching band this year for health reasons, but, i still like to play sometimes,,

What I’m Wearing: ironically enough, my flute section t-shirt from senior year and blue jeans. i'd rather be in my pajamas, but i have dinner in half an hour so there’s no sense just changing for a little while and changing right back.

Dream Job: ah, no idea! it, well. it might sound silly but i'd just like a simple job like doing organization in a lil cubicle or bein a receptionist or somethin. organizing and doing maintenance makes me happy! so does art, but neither of those pursuits pay very well so i don’t know.

Dream Trip: honestly i'd just like to take a trip to see some of my online pals ;w;

Last Book I Read: a required reading for a lit class my first semester, “Smoke Gets in Your Eyes”!! it was really good actually, talked about how we perceive death and funerals and the likes, kinda morbid but the author didn’t make it as such, there was a lot of humor and it was a neat read :]
