KinnPorsche Ep08 Lines of Power
Deep breath, everyone! This is probably our last chance to breathe easily before the finale. Enjoy the calming atmosphere while it lasts.
Without further ado, I shall address the lines of power, staging, and framing in Episode 8 of KinnPorsche... actually, I'm gonna take it easy because it was a very chill episode without too much wild, crazy line business.
More LoP posts: [Trailer] ... [Ep04] [Ep05] [Ep06] [Ep07] [Ep09 Part 1] [Ep09 Part 2]
Tumblr media
Look, if you didn't already realize in the first 10 minutes that this episode is pure comedy, this shot should seal the deal. A head popping out at a random angle from a doorway is peak comedy, a pure classic staging art.
Porsche, why so cute? 😳
Tumblr media
You guys. You guys. This looks like just a normal, cute shot on their date, right? Right?
WRONG. You've been FOOLED.
Look in the background. It's a mirror, another damn mirror!
Kinn is perfectly framed in the mirror, his other self haunting their date in a much more subtle way than Tawan did. This is a clever reminder that even though things seem sweet and fluffy now, they still have Kinn's alter ego and other life to contend with (and integrate?) if they want to be happy in the long run.
I haven't had a chance to review it yet, but I know @daltoneering has published a huuuuge meta about the mirrors in KP, so check that out for more mirror thoughts.
Tumblr media
Nope, nothing serious. Head empty, only cute boy with beautiful golden Wat Arun temple to frame his face from the background.
Now, I ask you, what's better than one cute boy with a beautiful temple behind him?
Tumblr media
Answer: TWO cute boys with a beautiful temple behind them!
Again, nothing serious here, but I just want to point out that the sweethearts are off center to better incorporate the pretty golden glow of the temple behind them into the shot.
You can also take this as slight foreshadowing of the religious element coming later in the episode.
Tumblr media
The lines of power were a bit shy this episode, but for this scene, they came out in full force.
This is reminiscent of the Emperor Korn shot in Ep 05 (for good reason considering they're the same set), but this is so different and so romantic. The sparkles from the waterfall, the glowing lines of the pool, and the lower lines of the ceiling are all pointing to the central couple, giving them the focus and the power.
The lines say this is love, and love wins.
Steal every bit of happiness you can! (I'm not just saying that to Kinn and Porsche, btw.)
Tumblr media
Lots of soft, wavey lines of light... I can't help but think that all the soft lines are helping to emphasize how much their relationship has softened.
Yet the shot also shows Porsche clutching at Kinn's face for dear life. I'm not over that, not in the slightest. The boy is holding on with all his might. He's gonna be fierce about it.
...he probably also needs some air.
Tumblr media
Q: When is a line of power not a line of power?
A; When you really just need a divider.
I could try to say that the big thick wooden line in the middle symbolizes this or that, or it's about Porsche being sneaky and not just asking Kinn the questions he should ask... but sometimes a line really is just a line.
For this gag to work, the characters have to be divided and unable to see each other.
So? Not a line of power, imo. But the shot is still very nicely framed with dynamic composition.
Tumblr media
Pretty, so damn pretty.
Great staging composition of the three cast members -- Porsche low, monk middle, Joe high.
Scenery is fantastic and engaging from foreground to background.
The angle of the sidewalk line on the left helps draw attention to the actors.
On top of it all, Porsche stands out in his black suit against the soft white, cream, and orange color palette.
If you didn't give this shot much thought during the show, take a minute to stare right now. Enjoy an aesthetic moment!

The Old World: Stonetalon Mountains
Tumblr media
(Bear with me on my attempt at an audio transcription here, I've never been talented with audio, but I thought it might be fun, and add a little atmosphere to these posts if it all works out well.) Cataclysm changed a lot about quite a few of the zones in World of Warcraft, but the level of those changes were rarely equal. In terms of zones that were actually physically changed, two stand out to me most of all: one being the famous separation of The Barrens, the other being Stonetalon Mountains. Much as every World of Warcraft player loves to talk about The Barrens, I love talking about Stonetalon even more.
If you've played World of Warcraft post Cataclysm, you might remember Stonetalon Mountains as a pretty....intense zone. It's torn apart by war, the whole of Windshear Crag is a desolate field (okay, so maybe not everything is different.), the storyline is a tense plot about war crimes, and the zone feels like a fairly open place, ripe to explore in any direction. In it's original incarnation? It wasn't really any of those things, hell, it was downright restrictive, in a way I find endlessly relaxing. It's funny to write out, because it almost sounds crazy, but to navigate Stonetalon Mountains feels, to me, to walk uphill. I mean that in a very pleasant sense, of course. Before the updates opened the map up and allowed Old World flying, Stonetalon is largely one of the most singularly linear zones in the entirety of Azeroth. Sure, there's open areas, but the paths to those areas feel like narrow mountain paths that are really only there to guide people to one place (Incredibly, a few weeks ago I discovered there's a direct path from Sun Rock Retreat to the Charred Vale over a mountain peak....I have been playing this game for 16 years!). As a result, in feels like one of the more guided tours of a zone that existed in WoW at it's first launch. Especially if you were playing Horde, and had just come in from the notoriously wide open Barrens, scouring every tent for Mankirk's Wife and decimating the local Zhevra population. Now, I mentioned earlier that I find this zone relaxing, and that aforementioned narrow design is a big part of this. There's really nothing complicated about classic Stonetalon. Whether you're being sent to deal with the Venture Company in Windshear Crag, harassing the druids of Stonetalon Peak, or asked to trudge through the Charred Vale to kill god knows how many Harpies, you're really just going in one of four directions: Up, Down, Left, or Right. The linearity lends a specificity to it all, and most importantly, allows the places you're funneled into as a result to have loads and loads of personality and beautiful scenery.
Tumblr media
Take Mirkfallon Lake, for example. Such a small place, but with the help of a small handful of quests, a story all it's own. Just from looking at it we can ascertain that it's seen better days. It's dingy shoreline and abundance of dead trees attesting. Even so, our quest there is one of rebirth, life still clings on, and we need to borrow some of it for a sub-zone that's in even worse shape. The Charred Vale, of course, is a nightmare. It's full of harpies, everything is on fire, smoke is clouding the air, and you're going to pull that Harpy trying to get to that tin vein, no matter how sneaky you think your being. Even still, like Mirkfallon Lake, life is still clinging to this place, and your quests there are a micro story about the hope that one day it might return in force. Meanwhile, Windshear Crag and Stonetalon Peak tell a dueling tale of respect for nature, and utter contempt for it. Windshear Crag has been damn near depleted. Even the mighty waterfall overlooking the zone is being exploited by the Venture Company at this point. In Stonetalon Peak, meanwhile, it looks as if Nature hasn't been touched for thousands of years. Ironically, as a member of the Horde, I was simultaneously sent to Windshear Crag to protect natural beauty, and to Stonetalon Peak to fill the people doing the same thing full of arrows, nobody's perfect.
Before I wrap up, I have to talk one last place in particular: Sun Rock Retreat. No joke, as a kid, when I read the name of this settlement, I assumed it was a luxury spa. I mean why wouldn't it be? Doesn't that name just sound like a place where you can lay in the sun on a big stone slab, maybe take a dip in a pond? Even past my misconception on the many meanings the word "Retreat" can have, it's still one of my favorite towns in the game. It's tucked away and it has an eclectic mix of NPC's to meet. If you've never been there, well, I recommend going at least once. Even just to pretend you're going to a spa.
Or just to alternatively save/destroy nature. Really depends on your point of view.

Keeping on is all we can do but I'm glad to hear you've been trying to enjoy yourself and live in the moment. I am using this pride month to be a lil extra ✨️fruity✨️. And yesssssss, Anthony looks so good, I wanna bite that man so much 😭
I know how it feels when you wanna write but can't really get anything out so anything you come up with is a victory in my eyes and one step closer to getting the mcalpine sessions ❤️ and honestly??? I would be a terrible beta, I need someone to beta my fics too 😮‍💨 ALSO PLEEEEEASE GIVE ME ALL THE FLUFF!!!!!! I love the will they, won't they especially when it comes to Sammy but I absolutely melt when it's just all loving and soft and taking care of each other.
And oh boy, the drama. 💀 It was nothing to do with you specifically, just the ship. And it was indeed stucky. A lot of the shippers have this problem with having Sam there solely to be a cheerleader or therapist to steve and/or bucky. It got worse after Endgame because now they treat him as a replacement or second choice for bucky. I had to distance myself from the ship because I'm petty and like to fight 😩 But I love you and your blog and know you are a big stucky shipper and I just didn't wanna project my feelings of the ship/horrible shippers onto you. 🥲 You don't have to do anything extra because I don't actually mind stucky....as long as Sam is treated with the same respect and you obviously do respect him. 😊
But anyways, I'm also doing well! Was able to see some of my family I haven't seen since covid hit and am close to finishing one of my fics as well 👀 I might just have to come off anon and give you a sneak peek 😉 I love our little debriefing sessions so you will be hearing from me very soon, babe!
With love,
Your friendly neighborhood McAlpine Sessions Anon 💜
YESS fruity pride we love to see it, i hope yours was happy and safe til the end!! fully support ur biting anthony efforts hahaha and i’m glad u got to see some family!! i used mine to do a bunch of things on my to do list, mostly involving organizing my stuff before i move, cleaning house, training dog, and oral surgery which wasn’t fun lol and sadly my attempts to be really gay w friends were thwarted by fate… sigh
i did however write a bit more of sessions as well as revise some other projects so not too shabby! and luckily for you it’s literally all fluff because when left to my own devices i am the WORST at writing anything else until i absolutely have to. i want to write in some more sambucky specifically because as it is i feel like most of the doc is ot3 or samsteve bc the first half bucky is literally unconscious 😭 and it’s about resolving conflicts between steve and sam. they definitely have a will they won’t they until it’s very very clear they will and then they just can’t fucking stop and the rest of the entire thing is just them all over one or the other lord help me HAHAHAHA
i also started an extremely arduous process of transferring posts from another site to here and continuing pull over EVERY post from my old blog so i can just delete it which is fun because i get to get rlly into cap brainrot but also A Task to be sure lol. i meant to start watching secret invasion too but i literally cant with the hour long run time mcu is asking a hell of a lot of focus for me from my extremely overstimulating home with that like if i’m expected to watch a feature film u better put me in a damn dark little box of a theater in silence but ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ eventually ill get to it ig
i’m so happy for you getting to the end of ur fic!! it’s such a satisfying feeling so congratulations and you got this!! especially if ur looking for a beta, id be soooo down for a lil sneaky peak. the professional editor in me never sleeps so i loooove giving feedback on work :) however ur comfortable w it but i gotchu bestie!!!!! as for the drama, OKAY THAT MAKES SO MUCH SENSE!! for reference #stevebucky is my tag for the ship (not stucky which i used to use but now find ugly in comparison lol) if you ever need to mute it. i definitely get what ur saying and the frustration. the way some fans can write sam, especially in older fic, is for sure a problem and it can be hard, speaking from experience, to break the cycle. however i will say now that i write him more and fingers crossed, better, its real fun how his dynamic with steve can be completely different from his with bucky's and stevebucky's w each other!!! like its more fun to write them not the same and have them all and let sam be his own character! sam doesn’t have to add to their already extremely enmeshed (affectionate) relationship by being exactly the same type of caregiver yk? im guilty of resorting to therapist friend in the past but as someone with real experience in psychology now both as someone who has been to therapy since and who was in the process of becoming a therapist it’s just not even accurate to write him that way??? you can be supportive of your friends but first thing you do if they seriously need help is find them someone unbiased and uninvolved on a personal level lol i know raymer fucking sucked but there are other options if one wants a therapist plot who arent steves best friend!! i see a lot of writers relegating sam to steve’s replacement for bucky too, esp in older works w past samsteve post catws, and yet even as his EX sam is still just calmly playing steves wingman and doing his emotional labor and not at all bitter or hurt to be dropped immediately?? lol okay.... sure jan... and now ive seen some do the same thing where sam is just buckys replacement for endgame steve and its like noooo whyyyyyyy. so i totally see the frustration, but i do hope ur able to find better fanworks that align more w ur desired depictions!!! bc theres some fantastic stuff coming out of the cap fandom :)))
i’m glad both that i’ve improved my skills in writing him and his dynamics with both other caps, whether that’s platonic or romantic, and that mcu has given us more insight into his character than before which for me makes writing him easier too bc there’s just more of a basis to work with. no matter how a fan is including his character in a work, regardless of the main ship, he deserves to be presented respectfully and not as a prop. i really really hope i can do him justice both in sessions as part of the ship and in my other wip, dublin au, where hes one of the main side characters because he’s been one of my favorite characters since catws premiered and this polycule has become so important to me. plus i definitely want to prove myself a bit since i’m not happy with how i’ve written him in some of my other works. wooooow that was probably way more of an essay than u needed sooooo maybe ill end here w my little obligatory snippet, as a treat <3:
Steve figures he might as well start in on some real breakfast, because with the way Buck was looking up at Sam from beneath the weight of his arms, they’re gonna end up with Falcon Flakes and milk all over the damn floor.
Too bad he forgot he can’t cook for shit. Looking extremely pleased with himself, Bucky wanders in and sits down at their dinette sans shirt to chomp down an extremely burnt stack of waffles.
“Good char on these, Stevie.” He lies like the bastard he is, while pulling a grimace in what he thinks is only Wilson’s eye line.
as always, its been a pleasure and i cant wait for our next chat! loveeee

A safe nest - Yandere!Dragon Trainer!Izuku Midoriya x fem!Dragon shifter!reader
It had been quite a while ever since they ran away from the village. After weeks of traveling on foot almost non-stop, Izuku had brought her to a special place. With a slight blush on his face he’d explained that he saw this place when they were out flying one day and just knew he had to show it to her one day.
When (Y/N) first looked upon it, she almost wanted to laugh in Izuku’s face. They were standing in front of bare field, with harsh mountain peaks sticking out of the ground in front of them. It was cold, dry, and grey; she could hardly imagine that anything would be able to ever live here. Izuku looked at her expectantly with twinkling eyes, hoping that she’d love it as much as he did. To stay polite, (Y/N) simply gave Izuku a forced smile.
Izuku had grabbed her hand and dragged her along the rough path on the mountain, eventually leading her in a series of tunnels hidden inside the rock. It was so dark that (Y/N) could hardly see anything; she could barely keep herself from tripping over the stones in the cave. However, it was almost as if Izuku was raised here with how quickly he managed to maneuver himself in the twists and turns of the bowel of the mountain.
When they finally exited the tunnel again, (Y/N) could only gasp in shock and delight. The cave had led them to a peaceful meadow, filled with flowers and a small pond. A few trees littered the area, with wild flowers and tall grasses surrounding them. A small house was there too, made of wood and seemingly abandoned, but still in good condition. The tall mountain peaks surrounding the area almost seemed to touch the sun.
As (Y/N) was admiring the scenery, Izuku suddenly came up behind her and put his hands on her shoulders. “This will be our sanctuary, our new home. Do you see how tall the mountains are? You can fly here without anyone seeing you!”
At the word ‘fly’, (Y/N) quickly turned to Izuku with an excited smile. She’d been wanting to spread her wings for so long, but Izuku had told her it was too dangerous to reveal her dragon shape when they were still on the road. Walking around so much was so tedious, so slow; she just wanted to fly.
All Izuku had to do was give her a small nod. At his signal, (Y/N) dropped any bags she was carrying and ran out into the meadow, quickly taking on her dragon form. With one strong movement of her wings, she was already soaring through the sky. As she felt the wind lift up her wings and the sun warming her scales, she felt her heart jump with excitement. The simplest things really do give the greatest joy.
Being here in this beautiful meadow with her trainer, being able to fly whenever she wanted again; it was almost like paradise on Earth for (Y/N).
But unfortunately, there’s a price to pay for all good things.
(Y/N) was never allowed to leave the sanctuary. Izuku said that people would recognize her and try to destroy the life they created together; they’d rip her away from him and turn her into a war machine again. When (Y/N) protested, saying that she’s more than capable of defending herself and Izuku, he would get sad and ask if she wasn’t happy with their home. He’d clutch her hands and ask in the most pitiful voice if she hated him so much that she wanted to live with those barbarians again. It broke her heart to see him like this, so she stopped protesting altogether.
Most of her days were spent in close company of Izuku or soaring through the sky. However, sometimes he needed to make a trip to the local town to get them some food. Or well, ‘local’ isn’t exactly the right word; it would always take Izuku at least 2 days to get there and come back, since he only had his feet to transport him.
When he was gone, (Y/N) felt so lonely. She had no one to talk to; it was just her and her thoughts the entire time. Without anyone with her, the days crawled by way too slow. To make it worse, whenever she was alone, she always found herself thinking of the day she eloped with Izuku. The day she burned down what used to be her home, destroying so many innocent lives. Even the mere thought of him leaving her alone with those memories gave her shivers.
However, food always ran out. Today as well, Izuku was preparing himself to leave her alone, again. He checked for the last time if he had everything and turned around to tell (Y/N) goodbye. His expression softened when he saw her standing there, clutching her chest with tearful eyes. Softly, she asked: “Please don’t go. I don’t want to be alone.”
Izuku simply ruffled her hair and told her: “It’s okay, I won’t be gone for long.” When he saw that that didn’t help at all, he quickly added: “Hey, see those flowers over there? How about you make the two of us some pretty flower crowns?”
(Y/N) glanced over to look at the flowers. They were pretty and she’d love to make flower crowns, but she just knew the moment Izuku was gone, she’d be reduced to a depressed puddle. Izuku gave her a tight hug, pressed a quick kiss on her cheek and backed away from her with a reassuring smile.
He waved at her as he increased the distance between them, and exclaimed: “I’ll be back as soon as possible, I promise!” To add power to his words, he lightly jogged his way into the caves, to the outside world.
(Y/N) stood there, watching his silhouette move away until it had disappeared completely. Her heart sunk in her shoes. She’s alone again. When she turned to look back at the flowers, she grimaced. She didn’t want a stupid flower crown.
She wanted Izuku.
A thought jumped in her head, one that she had very often lately. It was a foolish one, but (Y/N) was still intrigued by it; what if she decides to follow him into town? She’s pretty sneaky when she has to be, and when he’s on his way back home she could just turn into a dragon and fly back when he’s asleep. He wouldn’t even notice she left the sanctuary. Besides, it would do her good to take a stroll outside and see other people.
(Y/N) looked at the flowers again. Should she really disobey Izuku’s, no, her trainer’s orders? With a spiteful huff, she grabbed her cape and threw it over her shoulders. She’s been stuck here for long enough. Disobeying her trainer is exactly what’s she’s going to do.
---
Following him as he traveled through the forest wasn’t so difficult. There were many rocks and trees to hide behind, and she was still able to trace his tracks. Even though she couldn’t walk leisurely and had to keep an eye on Izuku at all times, she felt relaxed. The air was different here, the ground too. (Y/N) saw plants and flowers she almost had forgotten about. She even saw other people, who kindly nodded at her as they passed each other on the path. A smile made its way on her face. No one treated her like a monster, like the people from her village used to do. It was almost like she was normal, one of them.
It was fun to see what Izuku is doing on his travels, too. (Y/N) saw him searching the forest floor often, collecting twigs which he’d stuff into one of his bags. He’s going to make a fire, (Y/N) thought, if he’d take me on his travels, I could light any piece of wood for him. (Y/N) made a silent mental note to help him out if he’s struggling with lighting his campfire at night.
It was almost dawn when (Y/N) looked at Izuku, who was inspecting the branches on the ground. She ducked away when she heard an unfamiliar voice calling out to him: “Stranger, it’s almost dark and you don’t have a fire yet. How about you join ours?”
Izuku was visibly startled, but walked in the direction of the voice nonetheless. (Y/N) sneakily crawled behind the trees and bushes, until she had a good view of what was going on. Two men were sitting around a campfire, while a woman with her young child were lying down, probably sleeping. The one that had called out to him, an older man with a grey beard, smiled kindly at Izuku and motioned him to sit with them.
The other man, who was a bit younger, said in a boisterous tone: “It’s dangerous to travel alone, kid. You don’t look like the type that can defend himself against robbers, or dragons.”
Both (Y/N) and Izuku jumped at the word ‘dragons’. Izuku asked him with wide eyes: “Dragons? They’re here?”
The older man spoke this time: “Haven’t you heard? Supposedly, some dragon started living on that mountain over there, and start burning down cities and forests. I heard entire villages turned into ashes because of that monster. I’m surprised you haven’t heard about it, I thought tales of that beast spread like wildfire.”
“I heard the king even sent an army to kill it, but not a single soldier returned,” said the younger man. “It’s best if you stay the night with us, just to be safe. We’re not strange folk, just a family trying to look for a better home. Our home was burned down by that thing, too.”
Izuku smiled with relief. “Thank you, I’d love to spend the night in your company. I gathered some wood to burn. It’s all I have, but please take it.”
He immediately grabbed a few dry sticks and handed them to the older man, who gratefully accepted them. “Good, we were starting to run out!”
---
Izuku chatted the night away with the two men, seemingly relaxed. (Y/N) on the other hand couldn’t stop thinking about what the men had said. They knew a dragon was living on their mountain? How did they find out? But more importantly, (Y/N) hadn’t left the mountain in so long. What on Earth could’ve caused those severe fires? Moreover, what was that about an army? Are these all just tall tales?
When the noise of chitchat had died down, (Y/N) finally snapped out of her anxious thoughts. The men had lied down to go to sleep. They had even given Izuku one of their spare blankets so he’d be comfortable, too. They all looked so peaceful, huddled around the fire as they slept. It made (Y/N) feel drowsy too. She laid down on the forest floor. Slowly, she felt her eyelids grow heavier and heavier, until she couldn’t keep them open anymore.
---
(Y/N) had anticipated a quiet night, but she was rudely awakened by the sounds of screaming and crying. She immediately shot up from the ground and gasped at the spectacle in front of her.  The camp that was a peaceful site had turned into a chaos of blankets, household items, and blood. The two men had their throats slit open. Judging from the trail of blood, the old man had tried to crawl away, only to bleed to death a few meters away. The younger man was still alive, clutching his throat with one hand and powerlessly grabbing the ankle of his attacker with the other. The attacker had his back turned to (Y/N) so she couldn’t see him properly, but she was almost certain there would be a blood thirsty grin stuck on his face. The attacker had his blade lifted in the air, right above the woman’s body. The way her dress was soaked with red told (Y/N) that she’d been stabbed numerous times before she finally laid still. The child, completely confused and terrified, was crying loudly, pulling at its mother’s sleeve.
(Y/N) counted the bodies, but couldn’t find Izuku. Where was he? Was he killed, too, while she had just been sleeping here? How could she have been so lazy and cruel, to let him die right in front of her?
Inhaling deeply, (Y/N) tried to push away her guilt. It’s no use standing still now: if she couldn’t save Izuku, she should at least try to save the man and his child.
She jumped up from the bushes. Her claws and teeth were bared as she prepared herself to enter her dragon form and beat the crap out of whoever was in front of her, but she froze when she saw who the attacker was.
It was Izuku.
Izuku, unaware that (Y/N) stood there, had turned around and kicked at the man’s head to get him off of his ankle. It worked; the man fell to his side, let out one last gurgle, and never moved again. (Y/N) could feel the tears streaming down her cheeks when she saw Izuku being so heartless. She looked at the man, and then met eyes with Izuku. The blood drained from his face as he dropped the knife in his hands. He looked down at his clothes, which were covered in red.
(Y/N) backed away one step, confused and scared. How could he do something like this, her kind trainer? Was he really a coldhearted killer? Thinking back of the day they escaped their village, (Y/N) fell to her knees. He was always like this. That day, Izuku had pressured (Y/N) into burning everything down, to kill every last one of the villagers, because they hurt them and tried to rip them apart. As he spoke, his eyes showed no sadness, or reluctance; just excitement.
(Y/N) thought she was mistaken, that her dear trainer had a kind heart after all, but no. She wasn’t a monster; he was.
Izuku raised his arms to show he means no harm. With a soothing voice, he started: “(Y/N), this isn’t what it looks like. I had no choice but to do this, do you understand?”
As he spoke, he approached her shaking form. “I know I shouldn’t have kept this a secret, but I’m doing this for us! I’m the one lighting the fires, but it’s not bad. If I do this, then everyone will stay away from the mountain. We’ll be alone together! Just you and me. Isn’t that like paradise?”
(Y/N) looked at him in disgust. “Why kill people? Why destroy their homes? They would’ve stayed away from the mountain, anyway! You didn’t have to do this.”
Izuku suddenly dove on his knees in front of her and grabbed her shoulders, his fingers digging into her skin. His eyes were manic. “Otherwise it’s not believable! If an entire village burns down because of a dragon, there can be no survivors. You understand that, right? Right? I’m doing this to keep our home safe. Look, I’m going to burn this camp down, so people think the dragon is expanding its territory. That means even less people will be visiting us! Isn’t that nice? I’m doing a good thing.”
Looking at him in this state, (Y/N) was horrified. How could she have turned a blind eye to this side of him for so long?
Before she knew it, Izuku had wrapped his arms around her in a hug that more resembled the deathly grip of an anaconda than a loving embrace. With his face buried in her shoulder, he whispered: “A dragon should have a safe nest, after all.”

Plz let Airplane be EVEN MORE Awesome - Fic Rec Part Duo
*Stares at all the notes my last post got* Nice to know we are all just as Thirsty for the good boi as Mobei-Jun is.
So Thus, I have decided to make another! (Smashes the post button) Since there was a lot, I just decided to make another post.
here we go kids, more of that good Airplane love... alongside that good quality Moshang because I am biased~
(Plz share if you find more!)
a cup of vinegar, a spoon of sugar by Shamelesscooper - “Your timing certainly is impeccable, my lord,” Wei Wuxian groans, rubbing his back. “What brings you here for the second time in as many nights…?” “I left my cloak,” Mobei-Jun says, shooting Wei-Wuxian a dirty look as the bird demon shrugs his robe back on.“You certainly did!” Shang Qinghua exclaims, crossing his arms quite crossly. “You can’t just leave your things everywhere, my king!” Mobei-Jun’s hard stare refocuses on Shang Qinghua, and he can’t help but shrink back, hurriedly rummaging around in his qiankun pouch for the offending garment. As soon as Shang Qinghua finds it, Mobei-Jun takes it from his hands and throws it over his shoulders, breathing in a deep sigh as if it relieved him to have it there again. If you miss it so much, why did you even leave it behind?! Shang Qinghua almost wants to say, but he is quite fond of his head, actually, and would rather Mobei-Jun not take it off his shoulders, thankyouverymuch.
--Shang Qinghua is tasked with escorting the leader of the Yiling Carrion Tribe to Gusu, and it'd be fine if only Mobei-Jun would stop poking his (gorgeous, beautiful, drop-dead handsome) head in!
*Evil grin* here we have a delicious rare side of Jealous Mobei, Shang Qinghua doing something that most MDZS fans dream of doing once, and a side of shamelessness from our favorite ‘Lovebirds’ XD Not to mention how steamy it gets~
-
You Will Never Step Lightly In The Dark by Janusoverlord - Shang Qinghua wakes up in the aftermath of Tianlang-Jun's rampage on Cang Qiong Mountain and has to navigate the delicate political situation he now finds himself in. Luo Binghe is building a harem with Shen Qingqiu as his first, and honestly most terrifying, husband. Yet, Luo Binghe seems to be turning his eyes to Shang Qinghua as a possibility as well. Excuse you? What is this? He didn't sign up for this!
Okay, make sure you read the tags kiddies because uhhh, this has some themes to it. It is also part of a series as well, but I read it stand alone and it does good with how it explains things; as it is...
Let me just say, Luo Binghe does not know what he just got into; all mortals will bow to the might of our lord Airplane! I really did like this and I am tentatively on the fence about reading the rest of the series, because the writing is so damn good but we will see how my ship cravings twist.
-
With Ink and Sword by xnemone - Shang Qinghua is appropriately nervous when he passes the Imperial Exams only to be assigned not to the Emperor’s palace, but to the barren lands ruled by a lord known to be as ruthless as he is cold. Although his friend and confidant Shen Qingqiu gives him a sympathetic smile and a mountain of furs before he sets off, Shang Qinghua feels less than reassured. He expects ridicule, a harsh regime, even rejection. What he does not expect is for Mobei-Jun to take one look at him among all the scholars and servants of his palace, and proclaim him his.
Now, this is such a good story, I love it, is makes me feel happy and squishy inside with the good Moshang, and you know what? It has my new favorite thing in the world!
Shang Qinghua calls Cucumber bro out! AND IT IS GLORIOUS!!! (Seriously, why does this not happen more often?)
-
Good Vibrations by Feynite -  In Shang Qinghua’s defense, this whole trope was originally something he’d only ever written in for Sha Hualing, for precisely one scene.
In which I actually feel ashamed for forgetting such a treasure. Like, Feynite is a wonderful wordsmith, invoking so many thoughts and good shit with their words and characters, and by god do I end up just loving them even more then before.
This story passes the Vibe Check! (Luo Binghe also gets a Vibe Check~)
-
From Your Perspective by cozycitywitch - It was nothing more than a curse, probably, and surly the witch doctor could fix it? So what else was Shang Qinghua to do inside Mobei Jun's body until the end of the night? He couldn't be blamed for his curiosity! He was only a man! Or the one where Moshang switch bodies and Shang Qinghua can't help himself.
Now, this is a lovely, spicy lime where while there is no big action or technical awesomeness going on, it does have some wonderful images; Shang Qinghua’s hamster body with the aura of a king, him showing off being intimating which means Shang Qinghua can indeed be scary, it is something that could happen if he has the motivation for it.
Not to mention this is just a hot story all around~ (My kingdom’s for My King’s POV on this~)
-
ham hunt by jets_adjacent - There's a wolf at Shang Qinghua's heels and his only thought is: Northern mating rituals are a pain in the ass.
This is a really, really good A/B/O fic; it also shows just how tricky and sneaky our Shang Qinghua can be, as well as a mischievous side I just love seeing in our favorite Peak Lord. And let’s not forget the spicy goodness of this fic, which is really tasty~ (And can I get a shout out for consent and negotiated kinks!)
-
In which healthy relationship skills are forcibly brought into Proud Immortal Demon Way by two bros by Rafaela271412421 -  Look, if no one is going to give these people friends and healthy relationships then by GOD, I WILL do it myself! It's about two bros bringing healthy relationships into PIDW both intentionally and not. Gods and deities, accidental and not, will also be included. Also, it's in bullet point format, so you’ve been warned.
ahahahahaahhahahahaahaha! I love this fucking outline/bullet points presentation, it is something I always end up going back to and giggling like an idiot. The is really a healing piece, my crops have been watered, my face is clear, and Airplane and Cucumber Bros go completely feral~ I love it, I want to propose marriage~
-
trinkets for a king by jets_adjacent - Shang Qinghua gives many extraordinary gifts to his King. His King finally catches on. --aka: Mobei Jun has never been courted by a human before.
So, this is a wonderful subversion of the ‘Mobei-Jun courts/plans his wedding to Shang Qinghua all the while said man is unaware’. like, it is so cute and I love jelly Airplane; it gives me life. Also, one of the few we see Airplane taking full advantage of all his author knowledge and using it for the devious plans~
-
The Southern King and The North Star by Luuplup - A series of meetings between the Southern King and a cultivator. The happy moments, the romantic moments, the sad moments.
Another really cute Role Reversal I find I greatly enjoy, with a very competent, beloved Lord Demon!Airplane :D it makes me happy when I read it, I end up wanting to hug something~ It seems like it will be a slow burn, what with our favorite moronsexuals, but oh is it delicious seeing the buildup~
-
under a wicked star by tagteamme - Caught unaware, Mobei Jun is kidnapped for leverage. On the eighth day, Mobei Jun is broken out of his trance by the sound of something being tossed into his pit. It’s a lot lighter than what they throw food down in. He realizes that today, he is not tied down. When he moves off the bed, he does not need the canopy post to support his weight as he stands up. The object on the floor glints in the firelight, and Mobei Jun crouches to pick it up. His face is immoving; slowly, he turns the An Ding peak lord crown in his hand, looking at the blood-soaked metal through the light.
SQH to the rescue! Alongside some good old fashioned angsty Moshang miscommunication but with Mobei-Jun’s POV this time, and some absolutely good steamy good times for all XD
-
we seal our fate by ketolic (corrose) - All things considered, it really was sort of obvious. Hey! Anyone can be a genius in retrospect. Hindsight is 20/20! Besides, who can blame him! He'd never written about this facet of Mobei Jun's life before! Still...considering all the times he'd gotten his hands on Mobei Jun's sealskin, he's sort of shocked that it took him so long to figure it out.
:D This story makes me giggle uncontrollably, and still finds ways to unexpectedly stab me in the heart. I love it! Not to mention we get to see SQH be awesome! Sure, he flails around as he does it, but busts out the fighting moves and even fits a rescue in there! So good, so in character, I love every watery moment of this fic... good thing I’m so thirsty- (Is shot)
-----
But yeah! These are some more good stories I found, some a bit more- urrrr- thirstier then others~ you can find the first thing of Fic Recs Here! And Plz, share more awesome Airplane whenever you have a chance~

Fic Writer Questions!
tagged by @palamedessextus !!! thank u i love to procrastinate on writing by writing about writing
1) How many works do you have on AO3?
110 on my main account (+ 4 on my sneaky sock for Crimes™ lol)
2) What’s your total AO3 word count?
614,551 on my main account which is. hm. a lot
3) How many fandoms have you written for and what are they?
obvi the main ones are the terror (50 fics) and good omens (35 fics). beyond that: TMA, the OA, doctor who, LOST, red dwarf, what we do in the shadows, the aubreyad, legends of tomorrow, banished, MCU, bbc ghosts, jeeves & wooster, russian doll, true detective, twin peaks, fleabag, & it's always sunny.
so technically 19, but wow a LOT of those are because i am a fiend for crossovers. (true detective x red dwarf... twin peaks x hannibal... the OA x lost.... russian doll x doctor who...) and many of the others were one-offs for yuletide. i'm pretty monofannish when it comes to writing!
4) What are your top 5 fics by kudos?
lol they're all going to be for good omens... let's see
1. "it's a new craze" - the podcast fic. imho this fic is the definition of "The Claw," a.k.a. the phenomenon that sees some fics plucked out from the fray to become super popular. i'm not denying that it's good! i still think it's pretty clever! but its popularity was probably as much a function of timing as of quality
2. "what a way to make a living" - the uber driver fic. honestly still pretty proud of this one, it flows well and is structurally interesting and genuinely very funny and the perfect length. i had a blast in good omens fandom writing comedic fic, this one
3. "dearly departed" - another one i'm still very happy with. my first ever finished multi-chapter fic & the story that proved to me i could sustain a plot and original characters and also that people would actually enjoy it. so a pretty big deal!
4. "blame it on my juice, baby!" - the fake love potion one. i wrote this fic while delirious with horrible fever cooped up in a tiny council flat airbnb bedroom in london. i think it's still pretty strong although since writing it i've developed a severe aversion to the "meddling friend engineers a get-together" trope in fic & so cringe a bit when i read it back, lmao
5. "greatest hits" - the one with the original songs! the songs are still good.... the fic is ehhhhhhh i guess.
5) Do you respond to comments, why or why not?
i don't respond to comments on most of my gomens fic anymore because 🤷‍♀️ but i do try to reply to everything i get on my terror fic/smaller fandom stories! my replies are usually very lame but i do like to take the time to thank people for reading.
6) What’s the fic you’ve written with the angstiest ending?
i usually don't write angsty endings because i'm a weenie BUT the one exception is probably my terror/TMA crossover which cannot be said to end well by any means lol
7) What’s the fic you’ve written with the happiest ending?
dearly departed has a very lovely ending... i will also plug my OA fic heat rises which is GREAT and has a GREAT ending and nobody read it because nobody watched the OA. i'm fine it's fine
8) Do you write crossovers? If so what is the craziest one you’ve written?
as mentioned above, yes, compulsively... award for craziest simply has to go to It's Always Sunny In Another Dimension which is, yes, an IASIP x OA crossover. i apologize for nothing
9) Have you ever received hate on a fic?
not that i can recall, [bubbe voice] tenks gad!!!
10) Do you write smut? If so what kind?
i do i do.... when i first picked up fic writing again after college i thought smut would forever totally beyond me but after some very kind encouragement from friends i tried my hand at it & was off to the races.
i would not say i am an expert at it by any means but i have a lot of fun with it, & people seem to generally appreciate it, so i will keep going!
11) Have you ever had a fic stolen?
also no, phew
12) Have you ever had a fic translated?
yes, a bunch of my gomens fics have been translated into chinese and russian, which is so so super cool!
13) Have you ever co-written a fic before?
yuh, i had a few legendary cowrites in GO! the slow show metafic with cherry @fremulon and the shitscript crossover extravaganza with hallie @kalelraejepsen !!! both tremendously fun experiences
14) What’s your all time favorite ship?
that is a very tough one. if you go by my ao3 bookmarks it's aziraphale/crowley, which might be true still tbh... but i dunno. maybe ten/rose because that shit never leaves you.
15) What’s a WIP that you want to finish but don’t think you ever will?
in terms of fic i already started posting, there's my one terror WIP with amnesiac tozer that i swear i WILL finish one day... and same goes for my good omens music & lyrics AU, which i fully expect to pick back up and finish off when i inevitably return to the fandom for series 2.
as far as stuff that never made it out of drafts, i started a hodgson-centric fic a few weeks ago that i got like 4k into before realizing i need to seriously refine my approach. so hopefully after exe fest i will get around to that!
16) What are your writing strengths?
well i am funny. so i've got that going for me. other than that ummmm i don't know. i don't think of myself as a particularly good or strong writer bc i really am just here for a laff. i think i can turn a phrase well and get the most out of imagery; i'm good at coming up with compelling story concepts and weird gimmicks, i guess?
17) What are your writing weaknesses?
i fundamentally don't know or understand how People Actually Act And Feel so i have a hard time getting realistic or interesting reactions and conflicts out of characters. my plots (when my stories have them at all) are very powered by external events, i wouldn't call myself a character-driven writer by any means. for the same reasons i struggle with voice and dialogue beyond superficial signposting via vocabulary/syntax. also, sustaining a long story/finding enough Stuff To Happen to fill it up/having the patience to keep writing... is something i need to work on for sure.
18) What are your thoughts on writing dialogue in other languages in a fic?
i'm a lame american who only speaks english so honestly i don't really have thoughts!
19) What was the first fandom you wrote for?
i distinctly remember hand-writing in my notebook two or three pages worth of a story about what happened to the main precog in "minority report" after watching the movie when i was like seven. the first fandom i actually wrote fic for and posted it online was probably doctor who circa 2010 ish? but my warrior cats RP career predates that by a few years and i did a LOT of writing there. oh warriorsforest39 dot proboards dot com you are missed....
20) What’s your favorite fic you’ve written?
SEX GHOST AU! SEX GHOST AU!
tagging folks :))) @laissezferre @titleleaf @theburialofstrawberries @girdedheraround @flanneryoconnorfanfiction @wreathedwith if u want!!

Chapter 25: “Home Sweet Home” of “pride is not the word I’m looking for” quotes and commentary. Not a full list of favorite quotes or full commentary.
-
Anyway, Shang Qinghua makes himself  so fucking sincerely annoying that the Huan Hua Palace Sect cultivators can’t figure out how to politely tell him to fuck off fast enough. Shang Qinghua makes outlandish assumptions about how many thieves there are (at least a dozen, he’s sure, probably twice that) and what methods they might be using (special invisibility talismans, he suspects); Shang Qinghua repeatedly apologizes for being too busy with important things for Cultivator O.B.B. at the last Immortal Alliance Conference, then tries to commiserate with the man about having to get important things done without getting any respect for it; Shang Qinghua also anxiously wonders if they should all go to Zhao Hua Temple Sect to report what happened here, since there’s a troublesome demon and also some sneaky rogue cultivator thieves on the loose out here! He gets turned down immediately, but assures everyone that he’ll at least let Yue Qingyuan know everything that happened here right away!
Liu Qingge pretty much just stands there scowling silently the entire time - he’s no Shen Qingqiu for sheer menacing  "I can and I will ruin your entire life"  glares, but he’s still pretty intimidating. He does a great job! No notes!
Shang Qinghua nearly pats himself on the back as he and Liu Qingge leave less than an hour after he arrives.  “Holy shit, I’m good,”  he thinks, a little giddy with the successful extraction.  “That’s a skill that good ol’ Liu-Shidi will never have!”
 -
AN: Of course this has a high chance of backfiring. Is Shang Qinghua going to weave webs of lies anyway? Of course.
Love the fact that Shang Qinghua can shamelessly act like a total pushover, while actually manipulating someone so that he gets the results he wanted. Some snobby sect leader walks into a negotiation room, prepared to use SQH as a doormat, and Shang Qinghua is probably internally like, “Bro, me and my jelly spine welcome you to hell.”
He gives them the rundown on what happened, but, to his complete lack of surprise, that doesn’t seem to satisfy interrogators like his little sister-in-law and his fellow transmigrator. They have so many questions! And Shang Qinghua doesn’t have enough answers for them!
No, he doesn’t know what Huan Hua Palace Sect knows or thinks they know. No, he doesn’t know how they knew about that place. No, he doesn’t know whether the monster was just a local opportunist preying on distracted cultivators or something more sinister. No, he’s not experimenting with the creepy special item or discussing it at length here. No, Luo Fanli and Peerless Cucumber are not allowed to poke at the creepy special item!
Why the fuck would he ever let them do that?!
All Shang Qinghua knows is that Luo Fanli and Peerless Cucumber should eat their vegetables and then go to bed! Because they all have a long journey back to the sect in the morning! And also that words cannot describe how painfully old he feels as soon as he says this.
-
AN: I’ve been thinking about a Demon Trio fanfic in which Mobei-Jun finds himself in a similar position with Luo Binghe and Sha Hualing.
Mobei-Jun and Shang Qinghua are, like, bare minimum twice the age of Luo Binghe and Shen Yuan. Like, yes, neither Mobei-Jun nor Shang Qinghua are old old by the standard of the PIDW world. Yes, MBJ and SQH are stunted as all get out. But the fact that they have bare minimum 2x the life experience as Bingqiu is, in my opinion, funny as hell and severely underused in fanfiction.
Like, imagine Mobei-Jun unintentionally dadding new demon LBH in SVSSS. Mobei-Jun being like, “Don’t eat the meat from this monster. It makes you hallucinate.” Or being like, “These people aren’t politically important enough to be shown this kind of respect. Look down on them properly and go sleep, or no one will ever respect you again in demon politics.”
MBJ looking at SVSSS LBH and SHL like, “Damn, who raised you?”
Because, like, I love to joke about Mobei-Jun being an oblivious fool, but that’s in regards to human culture. Mobei-Jun operating on demonic culture + his level of arrogance in regards to how he’s handling SQH suggests that MBJ can be politically savvy among demons when he wants to be. Also, the mental picture of MBJ being like, “Eat your weird demon vegetables, there’s nothing wrong with them, you picky half-breed brat,” is extremely funny.
I’ll probably turn this into a separate post.
Shang Qinghua does  not  miss the man’s unconcealed  “oh, great, some of my favorite problem people are back, probably with bad news”  expression when they arrive. The man is not at all impressed to hear about the drugged-up Shadow Cave Wolf Spiders or the evil, murderous, madness-inducing plant they fought on their mission, but the Qian Cao Peak Lord is reluctantly, partially placated by the jar of three-eyed skeleton tears Shang Qinghua super thoughtfully brought back for his inspection. Mu Qingfang really likes his research projects!
Shang Qinghua lets himself feel kind of good about this gift - he’s the man who gets things and gets things done - and ignores the Weeper’s Eye whispering in his head,  “He has resigned himself to the untimely deaths of everyone he knows.”
(Wow. Oh, Shang Qinghua knows that feeling!)
-
AN: Mu Qingfang doesn’t think that everyone around him is inevitably going to die, he’s just extremely aware of how dangerous the world is and how reckless cultivators can be. Also, for many years, he was fairly certain that Liu Qingge and Shen Qingqiu were headed for bad ends.
This felt like a good place to insert some optimism back into the sect in general. Luo Fanli has been cured and is willingly going to visit her sister, Liu Qingge has got a hold on his self-destructive tendencies, Mu Qingfang thinks things are getting better, Shen Qingqiu’s health problems have been essentially fixed, Qijiu might actually work their shit out, Shen Yuan shares his real name with Shang Qinghua, and so on and so forth.
It felt like a good contrast with and buildup towards Luo Binghe’s Skinner mistake (not everything is rosy yet, there are still growing problems), the secret basement, and the encounter with Bing-Ge.
Only to flip that around and then bring some surprise Moshang into things!
“I have now been informed that, after learning that you had returned and, at the very least, completing the duties that were intended to have him reflect on his actions, he has disappeared yet again,” Shen Qingqiu continues. “This second disappearance has set some of the other junior disciples into a renewed panic, which has concerned some of the senior disciples, which was, apparently, cause to alert me.”
 “Ah,” Shang Qinghua says.
-
AN: Shen Jiu should not be in charge of a bunch of children, but it is funny to imagine him going through the same “be a less shit person” adoption process as Shang Qinghua. Like, oh, it would be so easy for him to be cruel about this situation, but fuck you if he’s going to be outdone in the recovery and redemption process by Shang Qinghua of all people.
Shang Qinghua: *grows into a kind of decent person*
Shen Jiu: “Fuck you. That’s not allowed.”
Shen Jiu: “...”
Shen Jiu: “Well, if THAT FUCKER of all people can do it...”
Shang Qinghua doesn’t have to look long or far to find his nephew. He finds the young protagonist sitting despondently on the doorstep of his own Leisure House, sniffling into his sleeve. Peerless Cucumber of all people is sitting beside him and keeping him company.
“Focusing on other people’s lives is easier than looking at his own.”
“-think a drowning man first has to save himself… or else he’s only going to bring down the people he’s trying to save,” Peerless Cucumber is saying.
 Binghe nods.
AN: Going by, like, the everything of SVSSS, Shen Yuan really is the asshole going, “I’ll die before I look inwards to recognize and deal with my own emotions.” Also, going, “Yes, I’m a hypocrite who won’t take my own advice. And what about it?” What a repressed nerd.
Shang Qinghua clears his throat to get their attention. Both kids (well, teenager and young adult, but still...  kids)  look up and then stand up quickly. Luo Binghe takes a forgetful step forward, before he wobbles into an appropriate respectful bow instead.
 “Shang-Shishu!”
“How dearly this boy is loved!”  the Weeper’s Eye declares, in its soft way inside Shang Qinghua’s head.  “More than life itself! More than death itself!”
“Ah, never mind all that,” Shang Qinghua says, and steps forward to wrap his nephew in a quick hug instead, keeping the creepy talking eye oriented away from his nephew. “You’re a little too late to talk to me about your mission before your shizun did.”
Binghe, who was just relaxing into the unexpected hug, freezes.
Shang Qinghua knowingly pats the poor young protagonist on the back.
  “Oh, shit” is right!
AN: Uncle Shang really is adorable. Still kind of knocks me for a loop writing it, though, given that the SVSSS SQH and LBH relationship is... nothing like this whatsoever. Look upon the field of SQH and LBH content and see that it is relatively barren except for the stubborn motherfuckers with excellent taste in character exploration.
-
“Ahhh, well, I’ll be there too for this potential family reunion, bro,” Shang Qinghua assures him. “Maybe we can finally get to the bottom of where this ‘Shen Yuan’ name came from.”
Peerless Cucumber makes a strange expression.
 “What?”
 “...It’s my name.”
 “What?” Shang Qinghua repeats.
“It’s my name,” Peerless Cucumber says again, quietly. “It’s my real name.”
 “Oh.”
“Huh,” Shang Qinghua thinks, having been operating on the assumption that the System made the name up for its mysterious backstory. Well, that gives new dimensions to Peerless Cucumber’s criticism of the scum villain!
“You can use it,” Peerless Cucumber says, with an air of determined nonchalance. “Everyone else is doing it.”
 “Ah, alright. Thanks.”
AN: This is probably the part where I would have made Shang Qinghua reveal his original name in turn... IF HE HAD ONE. It drives me... kind of wild that we get the Airplane Extras and we STILL don’t get 1) Airplane Shooting Towards The Sky’s original name, and 2) MOBEI-JUN’s name.
Which actually makes things a little more interesting here, in my opinion, even though not having those names gets a little frustrating in terms of fanfiction writing. With Mobei-Jun, you get to explore the fucked up possibilities of him not having a name outside of his identity as the future Northern King. With Shang Qinghua, you get to explore him being a squirrelly little fuck who refuses to let anyone into his life.
So, because we don’t have Airplane’s name, we actually get this mildly interesting dynamic in which Shang Qinghua doesn’t even really think to reveal it to Shen Yuan. We don’t see this part, but Shen Yuan is actually a little miffed by this degree of secrecy, which is going to come up later. (Shen Yuan doesn’t like the fact that Shang Qinghua has as much power over him as he does.)
I personally do not hold the headcanon that Airplane’s name was “Shang Qinghua”. It’s a little too on the nose for me. At that point, the only reaction to transmigrating into SQH kind of has to be, “Ah, well, I was asking for that!” Maybe Airplane projected his worst qualities onto Shang Qinghua, but I don’t think he went so far as to give the character his own name.
Airplane’s main identity when he died appears to have been Airplane Shooting Towards The Sky, and we know that he wasn’t particularly close to his divorced parents and any step- or half-siblings. So, the only names that are really relevant post-transmigration are “Airplane Shooting Towards The Sky” and “Shang Qinghua”. By the time that SY gets here, he’s firmly entrenched in those identities, and his original name is completely irrelevant. I could honestly believe that Airplane just doesn’t think it matters anymore.
Shang Qinghua’s nephew, in the way of a true young protagonist or  fucking cannon fodder, got the bright fucking idea to slip away to speak with the concubine called Butterfly privately.
“I thought: what if she didn’t want to speak in front of that lecherous old man? What if she wanted to get away from him?” Binghe confesses.
“She was the demon,” Shang Qinghua guesses.
Binghe nods, voice breaking. “It was…  I was  really,  really stupid, Uncle.”
“Well, at least you know that,” Shang Qinghua sighs, and pats his sniffly nephew on the back again.
Oh, he can see why Shen Qingqiu was  pissed the fuck off now. Shang Qinghua kind of wants to start yelling! Or maybe just screaming, coherently or otherwise!
Except yelling isn’t going to help much right now.
Shang Qinghua listens as Luo Binghe recounts being captured by the demon and then waking up bound by Immortal Binding Cables - of being so terrified that he could barely breathe with it. His only hope was Ning Yingying and Ming Fan tattling on his disappearance and a senior disciple tracking him down on time. The skinner demon apparently nearly killed Binghe, crooning over his young and beautiful skin, except a flash of warm light intervened and dropped an unstable part of the ceiling in on them before they could hurt the captured protagonist.
“Fu-Shijie and Shizun arrived after that and k-killed it,” Binghe says. “Uncle, it was all  stupid luck!  Shizun said I should have been dead and that, between my efforts and the demon’s, he had no idea how I wasn't! And he was right! It was  so close! If the ceiling hadn’t fallen in like that-! Fu-Shijie suggested the ropes might be faulty and it could have been an unconscious use of spiritual energy, but I didn’t do anything! It wasn’t me!”
It  sounds like the System to Shang Qinghua, intervening again at a crucial moment to prevent the premature death of the protagonist. Just thinking about how close his nephew came to dying without him knowing is nearly enough to inspire a cold sweat! Shang Qinghua can’t speak about the System, so all he can really do is keep hugging! Keep holding on for dear life and saying soothing nothings to his crying nephew!
AN: I wanted to include the Skinner mission, but I didn’t want to redo it onscreen because that’s been done in many fanfictions before and I felt that there was really no good reason for Shang Qinghua to be a part of it. The reason I wanted to include it is to show how the plot is off the track of the SVSSS (and PIDW) stories, with the changed LBH and the changed Original SQQ.
LBH wants to be a hero, but he’s not there yet.
“...Don’t put yourself above him… or below him. Tell him what you want and listen to what he wants, and don’t be surprised if things don’t change all at once,” Shang Qinghua advises and, at Yue Qingyuan’s look, quickly raises his hands. “Ahhh, not my business, I know! Not my business! I just… I hope it works out! I hope you two get something better out of this mess! Aha, make the sect meetings a little less awkward and… things.”
“He has never known what better looks like. He will always be Yue Qi, the slave boy. No matter what he does.”
“...Thank you,” Yue Qingyuan says finally, thoughtfully. “I appreciate your… restraint in this matter… in recent months.”
 Aha, yikes.
-
AN: I know that some people wanted more stomping on Yue Qingyuan, but... like... this man is as or nearly as traumatized as Shen Qingqiu. His childhood fucking sucked. He broke his own soul trying to save Shen Jiu and failed. He made some shit decisions where Shen Qingqiu was concerned, but the logic and trauma he’s operating on are pretty obvious. He was trying.
Part of the theme around the Qijiu and Moshang arcs has also been “an eye for an eye”. Like, are you guys really going to keep on not communicating with each other and then fucking up and then taking chunks out of each other? How many misunderstandings and upset over misunderstandings are you going to throw at each other? Where do you put your foot down and say, “I don’t want to live like this forever. We can be better than this. I want better than this.”
Like, it can’t just be hurting each other back and forth (this applies to Qijiu more than Moshang, in which MBJ definitely carries the weight of this fuck-up). It can’t just be privately nursing hurt feelings forever. The options here are “fix it” or “live like this forever”. Fixing it won’t happen immediately, but the other option fucking sucks, so every little step helps.
So Shang Qinghua here is just like, “Bro, I’m tired. My anger has cooled a lot. I just want all our lives to suck less. I hope things work out for you.”

LET’S TALK ABOUT THE PLANES PART 2!!!
Okay so this time we’re gunna get some of the fuckers that I didn’t get last time.
Now I kinda...didn’t do the good aligned outer planes last time, because, to be perfectly honest they’re...not honestly as interesting? BUT they’re still, technically important, so lets start with them:
THE “NICE” PLANES
Okay now it’s important to note before we start on these guys, yes, these are the “good planes” but that doesn’t mean the other planes are all “bad”, specifically the neutral planes like Mechanus and Limbo. They’re kinda set out to be vaguely hostile and there’s dozens of their inhabitants which have been statted up and designed to more or less just be “Unbelievably shitty dudes who will ruin everything.” Like the Slaad. Even just looking at how they’re meant to reproduce you can tell they’re just designed to be enemies.
Do better, rise up. Make the slaad the chaotic wrench in literally every plan ever made they were meant to be. Good or bad. Beyond that, remember the difference between an angel and a slaad should be reminiscent of the difference between a stereotypical paladin and a stereotypical rogue, maybe amplified a little. I honestly thing the d&d writers get kind of lazy when it comes to creatures that aren’t just “Evil” and tend to default them to lawful good.
It’s worth noting that there’s also NEUTRAL good and NEUTRAL evil planes that you will notice I am not covering. That is because they are typically much less developed and much less relevant to most campaigns. Hell the good planes are barely relevant half the time, so sorry Elysium, you’re not getting a spotlight. (plus it’d be even more overlap than these places already are)
MOUNT CELESTIA:
Structure: Also called the “Seven Heavens”, the layout of this place...changes, depending on where you look. Sometimes it’s mountain range with 7 peaks, sometimes it’s a single big ass mountain with 7 main layers to it. However you look at it, it’s actually a collection of 7 sub planes, much like the 9 hells. These ones are all very pretty tho, very nice and good to be in.
Inhabitants: Celestials. Lawful Good angels of all sorts. Some gods set up their domains in this place too. Typically the lawful good ones. Solar’s are the biggest non god dudes around and they’re kinda scary, Solars TEND to be in direct service of one of the good gods. It was folk from this place that got sent down to hell and got all fucky wucky.
Threats: If you’re evil: LOTS. If you’re not, well...be nice and polite and you’ll probably be fine. Between the angels and gods and crazy magic of this place though, if you’re evil and you decide to just go for a sneaky vacation, you’ll probably get kinda fucked up even if you DON’T do anything evil there.
Notable facts: The top layer of mount celestia is supposed to be SO lawful good that it literally burns away the evil out of you, leaving only the good in you remaining. If you’re completely evil, you’re completely destroyed. Kinda fucked that they have this kinda power but 4 kids with sticks and magic missles have to go and save the world tbh.
Further reading: Honestly the main things you’re probably going to be most interested in about this place are the gods within. Angels are on occasion neat, but a lot of them change depending on the setting pretty dramatically: Couatl’s are cr 4 in some settings and almost god like in others.
ARBOREA:
Structure: Arborea, as its name suggests, features trees. On one of the layers at least. It has three, one is trees and mountains and good hunting grounds. The next is a big ass fucking ocean. It’s just a sea. Then lastly we have “Shitty desert for some reason” a strange but not unwelcome addition to the chaotic good plane of beauty and emotion.
Inhabitants: Soooo here’s the thing about the good planes, they’re...Kinda the same, in terms of inhabitants. Godly domains, angels, various celestials. They just come in different alignments. One difference here I suppose is you also get a fairly vast collection of random monsters too! Cause it wouldn’t be chaotic good heaven for everyone if they couldn’t be hunting evil monsters for sport.
Threats: As just mentioned, Arborea hosts a rather expansive array of monsters, ranging from abberations in the seas to cyclopses and gorgons in the hills to actual honest to goodness titans. Arborea is not a safe place. It’s like they built a nice place and then turned the “Random encounter” setting to max.
Notable facts: So the aforementioned shitty dessert layer was once an ancient kingdom sorta thing (maybe) that was built by some long gone extraordinarily powerful group of godlike beings that more or less ran the place into the ground and bugged out leaving dust and ruins behind.
Further reading: Honestly same as Mount Celestia, learn the gods and angels and stuff. I guess looking into titans couldn’t hurt here, they can be interesting and they might be relevant to the desert layer.
Okay now I’m gunna do the elemental planes and feywilds next, just gunna split up the posts so these don’t get too long and ruin anyone's dash.

Stunning
Audrey Horne x reader
Word Count: 1k
Warnings: some fighting, some angst
Author’s Note: My girl!! MY GIRL!! I can’t wait to get to posting my Dale fics because those are good too. I love this show oml. I hope you enjoy it and thank you for requesting!
Requested: by anon, Good afternoon may I pretty please request a twin peaks fic where reader and Audrey get together after reader is comforting Audrey (after she fights with her father or something) and accidentally ends up confessing that she loves her ?
Summary: the request
Genre: fluff
I don’t own these characters. They belong to author/director
(not my gif) (Shes so fucking PRETTY) (dale missed out)
Tumblr media
Audrey was a character. She was dramatic and she was selfish and she was sneaky. But damn if you didn’t love her. She lit up your day with her smile and you consider yourself lucky to be her friend. Not many people got that accomplishment in their lives.
You and her had been friends since freshman year of high school. You had gone to hell and back together and you never knew every bit of her problems with her father. You hated the guy, no matter how much she insisted he was redeemable.
The room was lit well and Audrey was tired of being in it. It hurt her eyes. She sat down in front of her father. He was on the phone while she impatiently tapped her toe against the ground. He hung up the phone and looked over to her, annoyed already.
“What can I help you with Audrey?” She took a deep breath.
“I just think I could be better help around here if you listened to me every once in a while,” she said innocently. The subject itself was harsh but she wanted to stand up for herself more. She needed to stand up for herself more. Her father took a deep breath.
“Audrey I have no time for this.”
“Daddy you never have time for me,” she told him. She was right but he dismissed her again.
“Audrey, leave me alone right now. I have things I have to do.”
“What things?!” she asked, getting annoyed. He straightened his back at her and his mouth turned to a thin line of annoyance.
“Business things!” She stood up and balled her hands together.
“Fine.” She walked out the door without another word, leaving him to have to think about her. She walked through the lodge, calming her mind through the familiar settings. She knew that was going to happen and he hadn’t yelled at her as bad as she thought he might. But between that and every other time he had dismissed her she was getting tired. She wandered the first floor of the logge and was surprised to see you sitting in the main lobby.
There were people checking in on all different sides but none seem to be paying attention to anyone but themselves. Audrey was pleased to see you. She walked up to you.
“Is this seat taken?” she asked. You looked up and smiled gently, pleased to see her as well.
“All yours,” you said. She sat down with a huff. She was usually so strong and able to hold herself together but with you she was able to let it all come down. You were facing the window that overlooked the falls. It was a gloomy day outside; matching her mood to a T. “What's wrong?”
She thought about how to formulate the words and in her contemplation she started to cry. Not sobbing, just subtle silent tears that she had been holding back all day.
“Oh Audrey,” you whispered. You grabbed her and pulled her closer to you. You were sitting on a coach that was pretty out of the way so barely anyone could see the two of you. She buried her head in your chest and left it there, happy for your comfort and warmth. You hugged her as close to you as you could get her.
You ran a hand over her hair but made sure not to mess it up too much.
“You don’t have to tell me,” you whispered.
“My dad,” she said quietly. She wasn’t sobbing or anything but you could see the sadness etched into her features.
“I figured.” You gently moved her away from you so that you could see her face all the way. You moved a piece of hair out of her face and wiped the streak of tears off her perfect cheek. “He doesn’t deserve you. You’re gorgeous and intelligent and funny Audrey Horne. You deserve it all.” Your gaze went far away for a moment and then you snapped back into focus. She smiled at you and brought her hand to her cheek. Your hand still rested on her cheek. She leaned into your touch.
“You’re so nice to me,” she muttered sweetly. She was absolutely stunning.
“I could never be mean to that face.”
In a surge of emotions she kissed you. It was quick and could have been interpreted as a meaningless mode of affection but you had to stop to think about it. She watched your face and thought she had done something wrong.
“I’m sorry I-”
“No, no. That’s good,” you said after a moment. “You just caught me off guard is all.” The smile returned to her face and she sheepishly looked down.
“So I can do it again?”
“I sure as hell won’t be stopping you.”

In honor of Fanfiction Writer’s Appreciation Day (August 21st), here’s part 2 of my list of personal
One Piece Fanfic Favs 🏖️⚓!!
As with part 1, this list contains works with a kudos count below 300. The idea behind this is to shine a spotlight on hidden gems I’ve come across that others might not know yet! Please enjoy and leave lots of kudos & comment if you can (*•̀ᴗ•́*)و ̑̑
Previous rec lists: Metal Gear / The Witcher / One Piece I
***
Scents by grainjew (@grainjew)
I adore fics about Chopper, and this one highlights the growth he’s had and will continue to have for his crew and his captain. It’s a wonderfully executed character study set post-Fishman Island that made me see Chopper in a different light (in the best possible way).
Romance Dawn by marimoes (__moes__)
Sweet, wholesome, achingly soft ZoLu in their earliest days. I love Luffy’s voice in this, it’s such a hard POV to write and this just hits that comfy spot of two characters interacting in their purest form. Captain and first mate and a boat, nothing more and nothing less and it’s so good.
something precious by narramin (@narramin)
I’ll forever be emotional about the tough spot Law is in post-Dressrosa, and this fic captures that incredibly well. Law and Luffy get to sit down and just talk in this, and there’s something so healing about that. Very atmospheric, the prose is really good, I just love this a lot.
broken by @thenotsofantasticlifestory
This is a look at the mindset of Eustass Kid and Killer after their fight with Shanks and it hurts so good. I just live for Killer taking care of his captain, for them processing their loss together and being not-perfect people together. It’s rough, it’s emotional, I love.
regarding family by Origamidragons (@oriigami)
I’m so. Fucking. Soft. For post-Whole Cake Sanji bonding with his captain. I adore them talking about family, both their individual ones and the one they have in their crew. It’s just so full of love and like, loving details as well. Short and sweet and absolutely heart-warming.
all summer on bloody knees by ghostwit (@hazeism)
This fic is just an all-around delight! If you’re into kidkiller (or generally interested in pre-canon Kidd + Killer), this is just *chef’s kiss* peak teenagers/young adults figuring out the world and their place within it. I love how it ties into canon and the infamous Udon Noodle Incident, and it rings so true in terms of characterization as well.
(Sneaky double rec with come settle down because it’s a beautiful look into the Robin & Zoro dynamic and so so well done. It really makes you Think and Feel and just. Yes.)
Sleep is a Beast, Polar and Bear by Augment (@visualfallacy)
God, this one’s absolutely fantastic. It’s about Zoro helping out Luffy (and the rest of the crew) with sleep problems, and getting some help of his own in return. I adore it all: Premise, execution, and all the wholesome details in-between - nakamaship goodness of the highest quality!
bitter living through chemistry by Harmonica_Smile (@chromatic-lamina)
Once in a while, there comes a fic which features a unique combination of characters interacting, and it’s like... You never thought you needed that but now it’s there and it’s just so good, why isn’t this a canon thing?! This is that fic. It’s an extended dialogue scene between Robin, Killer and Marco during Wano and it’s amazing. Please read it.

Feel free to add/comment with recs of your own, if you’d like! A big thank you to the writers of this fandom, y’all are MVPs for real <3 Keep up the good work!

The Dangerous Forest Excursion Part 2
Author’s note: I kept very, very quiet about this. I didn’t mention to anyone that I was working on it--I was sneaky, sneaky, sneaky.
Partly because I really was completely fucking devastated when Tumblr deleted the original and I stupidly didn’t have a back up copy, and partly because it was such a daunting task for me--I really, really did think that the original was perfect. And the more I thought about attempting to re-write it, the more I broke out into a cold sweat.
Eventually, though, I decided that I just...couldn’t leave this part unwritten. It’s too important of a juncture in their relationship--it’s the first time tiger realizes what she needs from Bill and asks for it, it’s the first time they incorporate punishment into their dynamic, and it’s the first time Bill starts to understand tiger much better. It was too pivotal to not have still around.
Ultimately, though--I also decided that it was too difficult for me to re-write it as it once was. Because in my brain, my tiresome little perfectionist brain,  it would never be on par with the first version--I really do think it was probably my most favourite thing I have written, ever.
The original was posted back in August, and 3 days later--when I was just  editing a stupid tag for it--Tumblr just up and deleted the entire thing without a trace. If you were lucky enough to read it while it existed, then I’m glad. It was my peak. But for everyone else, I hope this slightly different version lives up to all of the hype you might have heard about it.
You can read part one of the dangerous forest excursion here. If you have trouble with it, or if you need some hindsight as to where my mind was at, you can read my director’s (author’s?) commentary.
I love you guys. Thank you for your enthusiasm for this two-parter, and your very kind demands that I take another stab at this piece. ***
You hadn’t meant to run, to leave. You hadn’t meant to do the very same thing that had gotten the both of you into this mess to begin with. But it was too much, all of it was too much and it was more than you could handle. It had been days since you had gotten lost in the minefield that was that forest, days since the first promise you ever broke to Bill, days since you were on the receiving end of his fury—fury that was still too fresh in your mind, still weighing on your psyche, still ripping you apart. You didn’t know what was happening, how to make sense of what you were feeling, why his anger was still crushing your chest. Why the guilt you felt from it burned like acid through your veins, why you couldn’t reel your emotions in.
Bill, for as passionate as he was, never carried things for long. He would feel an emotion intensely, let it ruin him for the moment, but when it was done…it was done. He had been furious with you that night, enraged enough to ignore your need for his help. His own emotions had exploded, clawed their way out of him until he was yelling at you… until you used your safe word. He had paused, horrified, stepping outside to regain his composure before coming back in. It was the maddest you had ever seen him, but within a few minutes—after exchanged apologies, softer words—it was done. You were forgiven, and the chapter was closed.
For him.
You still needed more. It weighed too heavily on your mind—his anger, his disappointment in you. You couldn’t put words to it, this feeling of dread still nagging in the back of your mind, this lack of closure over it all. The lack of feeling forgiven.
And maybe that was it, maybe that’s what this ache burning into your mind was. A lack of feeling forgiven. You had done something wrong, put yourself in danger, broken a promise to him, and after a few exchanged words…it was done. You were forgiven. It lacked the depth that you needed, it lacked all of the components that you didn’t know you needed in order to feel forgiven. It lacked…consequence. Your actions had only merited his anger, his disappointment with you, and just as suddenly as they appeared, they had vanished. Without a single consequence.
It felt fake. And even though he told you that he forgave you, even though he made sure you understood, it still somehow lacked the validity you needed. Consequence, you realized, was what you were after. Wrong doings and punishment. Action and consequence. It was the balance that had lacked, and what had played on your mind to make you believe that you still didn’t have his total forgiveness.
You struggled with it, wrestled with the idea. You wanted to bring it up to him, you wanted to ask for his help, but you didn’t know how.You still couldn’t articulate the feeling properly, or tell him what you needed that would help. You wanted consequence, wanted a little absolution, but you didn’t know what that looked like. His words weren’t enough, you needed something a little more…concrete. Physical.
Punishment, you realized, but in that exact form: physical. He had spanked you before but it was strictly under the guise of pleasure, as part of something you both enjoyed, and you didn’t know how he would react to your request to use it as a form of exoneration. You struggled with it, struggled with how to ask for what you needed, and the more the days wore on, the more you withdrew. The more your mind got away on you. And it culminated one night as you were both reading on the couch, when Bill suddenly shut his book and turned to you, taking yours from your hand and placing both on the coffee table.
“Tiger, what is it?” He asked with a heavy sigh, “What’s going on?”
“What do you mean?” You feigned confusion, but it didn’t work. He rested his hand on top of yours in your lap.
“You know what I mean,” he coaxed, “Something still isn’t right with you. And I need you to be honest with me, so that we can fix it.”
You squirmed, avoiding his gaze and fidgeting. Taking both of your hands in his, he ducked his gaze until he caught your eye.
“Please kid,” he pleaded, “Whatever it is, we can fix it.”
You let out a long sigh, meeting his eyes when he brought your hands to his mouth and kissed them.
“I don’t feel forgiven,” you whispered.
“What?”
“What happened between us. I don’t feel forgiven,” you said, “Bill, I can’t even explain it. I don’t know how. But there is just this….this weight on me, this nagging in my brain. This nagging that needs closure. Somehow. I need something that will just…something that will confirm to me, beyond shadow of a doubt that I’m forgiven. Because right now, I still feel like you’re mad at me. I still feel your disappointment, your anger, I feel everything except your forgiveness and it’s just very…heavy.”
There was a long pause, a lingering silence as he took in your words.
“Tiger,” he started gently, “I’ve forgiven you. It’s done for me. You’re forgiven. You need to know that.”
“I do know that,” you interjected, and he grabbed your face in his hands.
“Say it then,” he ordered. You sighed.
“I’m forgiven,” you mumbled.
“Not just that,” he implored.
“You forgive me,” you clarified, “You forgive me. Bill, I can say it as much as I want. For whatever reason, I don’t feel it. And I need to feel it, for me to be able to put this behind me. I need something to help me feel forgiven. Some form of absolution.”
“And do you know what that is?” He asked. You bit your lip and tried to take back your hands from his, but he held on, “Kid, it’s me. You can ask me for anything, I’ll give it to you.”
“I need you to spank me,” you whispered.
“Okay….is that it? Because tiger, we do that already. If you want more of it, just—”
“Punishment,” you interrupted, “I need you to punish me.”
He went still, releasing your hands from his.
“What?” He asked.
I need you to punish me,” you repeated, “Action, and consequence. I let you down. I disappointed you, I broke a promise to you. And even though you’ve told me a million times that I’m forgiven, I don’t feel forgiven— because there hasn’t been a consequence. And I need you to give me some proof or confirmation, some kind of consequence to my actions, that cuts through this mess in my head. So that I can move on from it.”
The silence was deafening, and you glanced up from your lap to see his eyes boring into yours.
“No,” he said definitively, “Tiger, no.”
Your chest constricted, your lungs tightening as he stood abruptly from the couch. He paced the living room, raking his hands through his hair as you fought the urge to cry.
“No?” You whispered, and swallowed hard, “Why no?”
“Because,” he spat, “Because just no, tiger. You’re forgiven. I’m not going to hurt you just to prove that to you.”
“You spank me anyway, what’s the big difference? It’s the same thing,” you argued.
“I spank you because you enjoy it, because it gives you pleasure. What’s you’re after is not pleasure kid, it’s pain.”
“I thought I could ask you for anything,” you murmured, and the sob in your throat was threatening to break. You felt humiliated, embarrassed, and foolish for even asking.
“You can,” he stopped his pacing, turning his attention on you as he rubbed his hands over his face,”You can ask me for anything. But this— this isn’t anything. You’re asking me to hurt you because you think you deserve it, all to get confirmation on something you already have. Tiger, you have my forgiveness.”
“I’m asking for absolution,” you tried.
“No, you’re asking for penance. You’re asking for pain,” his voice was thick with barely controlled emotion.
“It’s not pain, Bill,” you tried again, “At least not more than what I can handle. And it would help.”
“No,” he shook his head definitively, “It’s no, tiger. Find some other way to repent, some other way to get the penance you think you need.”
You sniffled, nodding your head as fat tears rolled down your cheeks. The hot flash of embarrassment crept up your chest, burning its way into your mind to join all the other feelings of shame and disappointment you had felt crushing you for days.
You heard him take a deep breath, felt the couch dip under his weight as he sat down beside you and took your hand in his.
“Tiger,” he said softly, “Hurting you is a hard limit for me. I can’t.”
You nodded, swiping at your cheeks.
“I’m sorry,” he continued. You shrugged and tried for a half hearted smile, but you knew he saw through it.
“Limits are limits,” you told him, “We both have them. I won’t push yours.”
He nodded, still looking a little unsure, but leaned forward and pressed his lips softly to yours.
And that’s where you had left it. But when the next day felt even heavier, and the one after that was worse, you shut down. You needed…distance. You needed to clear your head, to forget the conversation, to get over your humiliation, try and deal with the mess in your head by yourself. So you sought solace the only way you knew how.
By running.
And so, you fled. You waited until he stepped out for groceries, knowing it was at least an hour there and back each way, giving you enough time to pack up the few things your had taken with you, and be on your way. Not wanting Bill to panic when he couldn’t find you, you took a second to scrawl a note on a torn piece of paper, leaving it on the kitchen table for him to find.
Gone in search of penance. Need space.
I love you,
Tiger
And you grabbed the duffel bag you had packed, and left. The area was remote, no cabs available, but over the course of a few days you had become friendly with some of the fishermen by the harbour. They left in the early afternoon to ride back into town with their haul for the markets, and you planned to hitch a ride with one of them. The wharf was 2 miles from the house, a slightly winding road, but one that was impossible to get lost on. You heaved the bag over your shoulder, and set out.
It took two hours for the calls to start coming in, his name popping up on your screen. You ignored them every time, but the texts followed soon after.
Tiger, where are you?
Are you okay?
Come back, kid. We need to talk about this.
You ignored those too. And once back on the mainland you headed to his apartment for the rest of your things, before getting a cab to the airport to change your flight home for the soonest one available. The texts continued and you ignored them as best you could, but a last desperate plea came in before your plane took off.
I love you, kid. But you can’t keep running.
With a heavy sigh, you shut off your phone.
You only let yourself break when you unlocked the door to your apartment, inside the comfort of your own home it all came crashing down onto you and you let it. You cried as you started a hot shower, kept crying as you brushed your hair out, and cried just that much harder when you pulled one of his shirts on over your head and curled up to try and get some much needed sleep. You hesitated when you reached for your phone, wondering if you should turn it back on and worried at what you might see, but with a deep sigh you caved. The messages were no surprise.
Please kid, come back.
I love you tiger, and I’m sorry.
Sniffling, you shoved the phone under your pillow and tried to sleep. It was in vain and you had a feeling it would be, the night dragging on as you held onto your pillow, your eyes barely closing for longer than a blink. It was too much, it was still too much, and now the added weight of Bill’s refusal to give you what you told him you needed just drove you further into your head. You couldn’t escape it anymore.
You tried to get comfortable, tried to relax enough to just get an ounce of the rest you needed, but it was completely futile. So when the first hints of dawn broke on a sleepless night, you rubbed at your eyes in frustration, wincing as they burned. Resigned to your fate, you threw back the sheets and stood. You eyed your phone as it dinged with a new message, but you left it there on the bed as you went to get a pot of coffee on.
You heard it ping with a message—then again a second later, and on the third one, you sighed and gave up. Reaching for it, the message tugged at something in you.
Tiger, please. I’ll give you space. Just please, kid—send me something to let me know you’re safe. It doesn’t even have to be a word. Just something. I need to know you’re safe.
You knew he meant it, and you knew that he was probably still going out of his mind with worry even though you left a note. You started typing out your response—a brief, curt sentence of just barely two words—but a noise from the front porch stopped you dead in your tracks.
A key. In the lock. The door opening. There was only one other person in the world who had a key to your apartment.
“Tiger!” You heard him bellow, and your blood ran cold. His footsteps thundered up your stairs, taking two and three at a time, and you raced to the front door just in time to slam the deadbolt across. He jammed his key in the lock, turning it and throwing your door open—only to have it come to an abrupt halt when the chain for the bolt caught.
“Tiger, open the fucking door,” he growled, squeezing his hand through to try and undo the chain.
“No, I’m not ready to see you,” you said meekly.
“I don’t give a fuck what you’re ready for kid, we’re going to talk,” he pulled the door forward before pushing it again, trying to jimmy the chain loose.
“No,” you said sternly, but he wasn’t having it.
“We tried it your way kid, now we’re going to do it my way,” he snarled, “Open the fucking door.”
“Go away, Bill,” you pleaded.
You heard his deep breath, followed by the sound of his footsteps retreating down the stairs and the front door slamming. You thought—just for a brief moment—that maybe it worked. Maybe you had convinced him.
Until you heard a commotion from the kitchen.
He had taken a running leap up the side of your apartment, balancing his foot on a drainage pipe for just a second to gain enough height to latch onto the stone ledge beneath your kitchen window. Tossing your screen open, in a feat of incredible strength—God, you forgot how strong he was sometimes—he pulled himself up. You ran to the kitchen just in time to see half of his upper body coming through the window, a leg following close behind and landing in your sink as he folded himself in half, squeezing through the frame. His limbs tangled and he couldn’t get a good angle so you watched, eyes wide, as his other leg came jutting through and he tumbled to the floor in your kitchen.
You stood there, stunned.
He looked up at you from the floor, his eyes blazing, as he slowly pushed himself upright. He didn’t break your gaze, didn’t even blink as he slowly advanced on you. His shoulders square, stretched up to his full height, he towered as he took slow strides towards you. You took one back for every one of his forward.
“Why do you run?” he growled, “Why do you. Always. Run.”
You were powerless, and as if to emphasize his point— because your mind was on survival mode–you turned and bolted. Tried to make it down the hallway but you barely got two steps away before his hand closed on your arm and he hauled you back with a force, slamming your back into the wall. He leaned down to be in your eyesight, placing his palms flat on the wall on either side and glowering at you.
His jaw ticked, and you gulped.
“Tiger, enough,” he growled, “Look at me.”
When you kept your eyes downcast, he took your chin in one of his hands and tilted your head up roughly.
“Look at me, and tell me why you ran,” he said, and it was that tone of voice—that authoritative, commanding tone of voice that even thick with emotion, had your knees almost giving out. The knot, that pit of fire that had been burning in your stomach for over a week, was starting to uncoil. Just barely.
“Because I was scared,” you mumbled, “I was embarrassed.”
“Why?” He demanded, and you looked down for a second before he was wrenching your chin up again “Look at me.”
“Because I asked you for something,” your voice shook and your lip quivered, “Something that I needed, and you told me no.”
“Why did I tell you no?” His eyes bore into yours.
“I don’t know,” you mumbled pathetically, a few tears rolling down your cheeks.
“Tiger.”
“Because you didn’t want to hurt me,” you sniffled. And for the first time, you saw him soften. You felt his warm breath fan over your face as he sighed, releasing the vice grip on your chin to cup your face instead.
“Tiger, do you understand that?” He asked gently, “Why I said no? Why I didn’t want to hurt you?”
“I guess,” you shrugged, “Even though it wouldn’t hurt me. You spank me anyway, and I—”
He placed a finger over your mouth, and you stopped.
“Punishment is different. Punishment implies that I’m inflicting pain on purpose, hurting you on purpose. And I didn’t want to do that,” he said. You huffed, trying to push him away but he didn’t move.
“We had this conversation two days ago Bill,” you snapped, “I’m not having it again.”
“I’m not done,” he put his knee between your legs, placing a flat hand on your chest and keeping you pinned to the wall, “I didn’t want to hurt you. I still don’t. But I…I looked into it a bit more. And I understand a little better now, why you might need this. Some kind of punishment to set your mind back right again. I understand you a little better now.”
“What?”
“Tiger, I don’t need this. I forgave you a long time ago. But I understand why maybe it’s more…complicated, in your mind. Why you’re having more trouble with it. And if you still need what you asked me for, then I’ll give it to you.”
You swallowed hard, meeting his gaze as you struggled to find words.
“You will?” You asked.
“Yes,” he said, and he took your cheek in his hand, “Do you still need it? Will it help?”
“Yes,” you answered without an ounce of hesitation, “Please, Bill. It’ll help.”
He nodded once, bending to press his lips to yours in a lingering kiss.
“Go wait for me on the bed, then. Clothes off,” he took a slow step back, “I’ll be there in a minute.”
It took you a second to realize that he was serious, but then you got your feet under you and pushed off from the wall. You stopped on your way out the kitchen, turning around and walking back to him to pull him in for another kiss.
“Thank you, bud,” you whispered. He nodded again, jutting his chin down the hallway to get you moving again before he lost his nerve.
Once you were out of his sight, he took a few calming breaths—deep and steadying, before heading to the cabinet where you kept your liquor. Finding the Swedish one you never drank, he popped the cap off and downed a gulp right from the bottle before shaking his head to clear the fog. Swiping his thumb across his lip, he headed to your bedroom.
You were sitting cross legged on the bed, waiting for further instructions.
“Come here,” he called you over as he stood at the foot of the bed, “Get on all fours, kid.”
You did as you were told, and his hand stroked up your back. Knowing he’d ask for it, you turned to meet his eyes before the request left his lips.
“Tiger, this is for you. I don’t need this but I understand why you do, and I want to give you what you need.”
You nodded.
“But once it’s done—it’s done. You’re forgiven, and we’ll both put this behind us, okay? Promise me.” He continued.
“Yes,” you agreed, “I promise.”
“You’re going to get 5 kid,” he explained, “Count them out loud. What do you say if you want me to stop?”
“Pineapple,” you said, and your heart was already tripling in beats. You could feel it there—the absolution you needed, the one you craved, right at your fingertips.
“Or?”
“Red,” you replied obediently. He nodded, pushing your top half further into the mattress before reaching for a pillow, placing the corner near your mouth. You looked back at him in confusion.
“To bite down on, if you need to,” he explained, “Ready?”
You nodded. Gritting your teeth, you waited—and when the first strike hit you, your mind went blank. It hurt, it stung a lot more than when he would do it for pleasure, but all you felt was….relief.
“One,” you counted out. The weight, that devastating weight that had been crushing you for days was suddenly….dissolving. Disappearing. His hand pulled back, landing another hard strike on the fleshy part of your ass and you inhaled sharply, melting more into the mattress. You felt all of it—the guilt, the disappointment, the heaviness of the last few days just dissipating, replaced with the sweet resolution that punishment brought. The absence of thought. The quietness of it all, and the lightness of finally feeling forgiven.
“Two,” you squeaked out through gritted teeth. He pulled back, landing another hard one and you gasped, biting into the pillow that he had put for you. The absence of that guilt was giving way to something else, something you hadn’t felt since before you wandered into that forest alone—it was giving way to arousal. To the thrill, the feeling of finally getting what you need from the person you needed it from, the freedom of it all.
“Count, tiger,” his loud order broke through your thoughts, when you failed to call out the following strike.
“Three,” it was a deep groan, pain mixed in with pleasure as you wound your hands in the sheets. It was building, deep in your gut. Coiling tightly as every bad feeling, every bit of anxiety you had struggled with gave way to something much more intense, much more pleasurable.
His hand retracted, landing the hardest one yet as you tensed. Your entire mind was blank, pulsating with nothing but the absolute absence of everything that had been crushing you for so long, the thrumming of pleasure building. He knew, and he marvelled at it—he could smell your arousal, see the sheen of it between your legs as he brought his hand down hard. He saw the blush creep down your back, felt your muscles tense as you writhed slightly before him, saw the way you inched your legs closer together.
“Four,” you mumbled. Somewhere in the midst of it all, you had started to cry. It wasn’t out of pain, but out of just…relief. Tears soaked the pillow and you winced, but the pain brought the peace that you knew it would. The peace that you needed, the pleasure you craved, the relief.
He pulled his hand back a final time, landing it with a resounding slap as your back arched.
“Five,” you breathed out, and then you were being gathered in his arms.
“Good girl,” he murmured, “We’re done kid, we’re done.”
Wrapping you up in his embrace, he gently flipped you onto your back as you cried openly. He waited for your move, tried to see if you would reach for him or if you needed distance, but your hands immediately sought him out—grabbing at him until you had enough traction to pull him forward onto you.
“Bill,” you pleaded, grasping onto him as hard as you could, “Please…”
He knew what you needed, what you were asking for. He watched you as he glided his hand up your inner thigh, taking his time to gauge your reaction to make sure it was what you wanted, what you needed. You inhaled sharply when his fingers passed over you, stifling a moan as he ran them through your wetness, spreading you wide.
“Tiger, look at me,” he whispered as he kissed a few of your tears away. He ran his hand gently over your slit, pushing two fingers into you as you groaned. You opened your eyes to his.
“It’s done kid,” he pumped his fingers gently, “You’re forgiven.”
He crooked his fingers and you stifled a cry as he pressed them to the front of your walls, rubbing gentle circles. You were so wet, your arousal soaking his hand as he ground his palm into you. You were overwhelmed, every sense on fire—you could feel his fingers, long and slender, moving inside you. You could hear the obscene sound, wet and warm, as he moved his hand against you. You could smell him, feel his lips on your face, his warm breath on your cheek. You felt everything good, everything that had nothing to do with the emotions that had crushed you before.
“Bill…” you croaked, and he shushed you lightly.
“I know, sweet girl,” he praised. You cried out as his thumb found your clit, pressing down softly as his fingers continued to work you over.
“You did so well for me kid,” he purred, “You took it so well. And it’s done now. I forgive you.”
You sobbed as his fingers quickened just barely, hitting all the spots deep in you as you writhed. But you wanted more—you wanted to be greedy, ask for just a little bit more, to throw you over the edge.
“You can come for me, tiger,” he murmured as he kissed you, “Any time you need to.”
But you grit your teeth, tried to stave it off as you grabbed his hand between your legs to stay it.
“With you,” you begged, your voice cracking, “Please Bill, I want to come with you.”
His eyes flicked over you, his gaze intense and searching—but then he kissed you again, all tongue and teeth and passion, before gently removing his hand. You whimpered as he brought it to his lips, sucking both fingers into his mouth as he groaned at your taste. He raised up on his haunches, undoing his pants and shoving them to his knees before he made a move for you again, but you rested your hands on his chest.
“All of it, bud,” you pleaded, “Please, I need to feel as much of you as I can.”
You didn’t have to ask twice, he kicked his pants the rest of the way off and lifted a bit to pull his shirt over his head before he was reaching for you again. You kissed him hard, grabbing hold of his length and lining him up at your entrance as he pushed in slowly. Moaning, he grabbed your hand as he rested his forehead against yours.
“Tiger,” he moaned against your lips, “You’re forgiven.”
Your other hand raked down his back and he jerked forward, as your abdomen tightened in impending release.
“Yes,” you sighed against his mouth, keeping his gaze.
“Do you feel it now?” He whispered, “Is it more clear now?”
He kept his pace, his hips slowly rolling into you before dragging back in delicious friction, then pushing forward again.
“Yes,” you whimpered, closing your eyes for a brief second to capture his lips in a searing kiss.
“Say it,” he urged, sucking his breath in through his teeth when you clenched around him, “God you feel so good. Say it for me, kid.”
“You forgive me,” you cried, bringing a hand up to rake through his hair. His eyes stayed on you the entire time, green orbs bore into you as your muscles started to tighten, your breath started to hitch.
“Good girl,” he praised. He rolled his hips with a bit more force, burying himself deep inside you as you gasped. You tilted your chin up, shutting your eyes briefly as the pleasure slammed into you.
“Keep looking at me, tiger,” he pleaded, and with a gentle hand he brought your face back to his, “I want to see it, when you come for me.”
You whined, a pathetic whimper as you felt everything start to clench. You were so wet, so warm around him, and every time he pushed forward he rubbed further down on your clit. The pressure was building, your stomach tense and tight as everything started to go blank.
“Let go, sweet girl,” he coaxed, “Give it to me.”
And with your chin in his hand, his forehead on yours and your eyes locked with his, you let it slam into you. The white, hot flash of extreme pleasure, building for a few days and culminating in an intense release. It was emotions, it was physical, it was everything you had held way too deep inside for a few days. You cried out, clenching your teeth and eventually closing your eyes as you spasmed around him, surging forward. You bit into his shoulder to hold back a scream, your hand squeezing his as you let out a guttural groan when all of your muscles released. His own resonated in your ear soon after as he pitched forward, driving you hard into the mattress as his hips worked against yours. He moaned, his breath coming in rasps as he held onto your hand, the other one gripping the sheets. A few more thrusts, slow and lazy but deep enough to still have you pleasure drunk, and he collapsed breathless on top of you.
You laid there for a long moment, all of your limbs wrapped around him as tears flowed freely down your face. It was silent except for your cries, small sniffles and whimpers that you couldn’t control, as you buried your face in his chest.
“I love you, kid,” he murmured in your ear, “It’s done now. Yes?”
“Yes,” you nodded emphatically, kissing any part of him you could reach, “It’s done.”
He raised slightly, kissing first your ear, then peppering them along your jaw eventually resting his lips on yours for a soft kiss.
“You feel forgiven?” He asked.
“Yes,” you sighed, tilting up to kiss him again, “Yes.”
“Good,” he rested his forehead lightly against yours, stroking your cheek with his thumb. You reached your mouth for it, kissing it lightly and nipping the pad of it playfully. He laughed, pulling you into his chest as he rolled over onto his side. But then you remembered something, something you had wanted to ask him about, and your brow creased with confusion.
“Bill,” you started, his thumb still resting on your mouth and warbling your speech, “Before, you said that you…looked into this more. And that you understood it better now. What did you mean?”
His lips pursed thoughtfully as he contemplated his response.
“I just read up on some stuff,” he murmured.
“What stuff?” You prodded. He sighed.
“I just read up on…subs. Submissive dynamics,” he explained cautiously, “And what they need. How guilt and punishment comes into play, and why it’s sometimes necessary. For them to feel better.”
“Oh.”
He eyed you carefully, tapping his thumb against your lips and you opened for it readily. You took a second, sucking on the pad of it and looking up at him.
“But…I’m not a sub,” you said, your words muffled as you sucked on it. A wry smile quirked up the tips of his mouth.
“Okay,” he acquiesced. You adjusted his thumb in your mouth, using your tongue to push it into your cheek as you glared at him.
“Bill, I’m not a sub,” you insisted. He nodded, his lips twitching as he fought to conceal a smile.
“Right,” he said, “You’re not a sub.”
Satisfied with his response even though it was slightly insincere, you moved forward to tuck your head under his chin as he wrapped his arms around you.
“Thank you, bud,” you mumbled. He kissed your head, stroking your back.
“I need to check you over kid,” he murmured, “Make sure you’re okay.”
“We have a lot of time,” you mumbled, your eyes getting heavy, “Right now, just keep holding me.”
His arms tightened around you, a hand weaving its way into your hair, as you finally exhaled for the first time in days.

Happy #KastleChristmas!
Hello Kathryn (@fortysevenswrites)! Yes, I am your Kastle Secret Santa. Ta da!
You prompted me with "open road, winter retreat, snowball fight". I inquired further (gotta love that sneaky anon option on here) and was given some of your favorite headcanons/tropes which included “hurt/comfort (come on, it’s Karen and Frank and they have BAGGAGE), and nonverbal communication.” and I basically ran with that.
Your fic is ready. However you will have to wait a teeny, tiny bit because surprise! It’s a NYE fic! And I want to post it on that day, for aesthetic purposes. Hope that’s okay 😬
But in the meantime enjoy this preview of the fic and this graphic I made for it before I lost Photoshop CS6 (it’s been a week/month/year ya’ll and I, for one, cannot wait for 2020).
The general gist of the fic is that Karen’s past has come back to haunt her (in the form of her former, drug dealing boyfriend Todd) and she is hiding out in a cabin in New Jersey cause he is after her. Frank is spying in on the trial for her and is annoyed about wearing a monkey suit to do so but for Karen, he wears it. There will be angsty, sexual tension with a sweet ending as they ring in the new year, finally together.
Enjoy the sneak peak! Full fic to come shortly!
This black tie might as well be a goddamn noose. Frank is relieved to see the Welcome to New Jersey sign, it means he’s almost back to the cabin. Back to Karen, who definitely has cabin fever and it is something fierce.
”I’m not gonna keep repeating myself here. You are not coming with me, end of...” Frank exasperates.
“I just don’t understand why I still have to stay here if today is the day...” Karen retorts. “Come on Karen, Todd directly targeted you. Even Mahoney recommended that you get out of the city for your own safety until the trial is over and he is put away...” “Yeah but I doubt he would’ve been okay with you as my protection.” Karen says stubbornly. Frank sighs and is about to dig his heals in metaphorically until she sees reason but he is not the best multitasker. He can’t keep arguing with her and get this stupid tie to cooperate. He hears her footsteps on the hardwood floor and he knows she’s standing in the doorway of his bedroom. “Here, let me help.” Karen finally offers after struggling with it for what felt like an eternity. She turns him away from the dresser mirror. Frank drops his hands in defeat and accepts her help. “I swear I will give anything if I could wear my uniform for these kind of things and never deal with ties again for as long as I live.” They both laugh and fall into silence while Karen does his tie. She is done before he even blinks and any irritation he had felt toward her before has completely disappeared. “You would, uh, do this for your brother?” The question sits in their space and despite there being no secrets between them now Frank can’t help but feel like he’s rubbing salt into the wound. “Yes. Matt asked me the same thing once. Not the same exact question but he wondered how I knew how to... I spoke of Kevin to him like he was still alive.” Her brow furrows as she pulls the knot of the tie even closer to the collar of his shirt. He doesn’t even feel it.
“And he still is. In a way. We’ll... talk and it feels like he’s right next to me.” “I’m sorry I shouldn’t have...” “It’s okay, Frank. Go to Todd’s sentencing.” “Aren’t you coming with me?” Frank cracks. “No. You and Mahoney are right and if I don't let you go now you'll miss it. Hopefully he will be going away for a long time and I can get out of this cabin.” She smooths his tie down and leaves him in his room.

Lasabrjotr Chapter 62: Brood XVII
Chapters: 62/? Fandom: Thor (Movies), Marvel Cinematic Universe Rating: Mature Warnings: Death mentions, Snap flashback Relationships: Loki x Reader (There We Go) Characters: Loki (Marvel), Thor(Marvel),  Additional Tags: Post-Endgame: Best Possible Ending (Canon-Divergent), You Don’t Know What You Got Till It’s Gone, Never Miss The Sun Till It Starts To Snow, Other Ironic Lyrics About Being Disrupted By The Loss Of A Mundane Thing
Summary:   Sometimes the things everyone complains about become a comfort. Without them, you can't sleep. Loki, however, can't stop being sneaky, even if it's for your own good.
The days marched on into late summer, the sun finally beginning to fully set again. The nights in Iceland were clear and cold, the sky stretching unbroken from horizon to horizon. It reminded you of home in its scope, but was alien in its silence.
That was becoming a problem.
The nightmares came and went every few months, building up to a peak that left you sleepless and discombobulated. You could power through it with sleep aids sometimes, but you had none right now.
The silence of Iceland must seem like a boon to most people, but the lack of late summer cicadas filling the air with their sawing reminded you far too much of the silence of that lost year.
The first dream found you wandering the barren fields, following the sound of a song, desperate to find who was singing, who else had survived. It wasn't until you felt a soft crunch under your shoe, and the song stopped, that you realized that in your scramble, you had accidentally crushed a cicada. Your only other companion in this whole dead world.
You had woken up, weeping in Loki's arms, to his clear confusion.
After that, it was the song of crickets floating over empty hills, with you seeking, always seeking the paradise they must be living in; a tree, a patch of grass, even an old log. Something living, anything. But you could never find it. Every hill you crested only brought you to more hills, the soft chirping drifting on the wind.
Or you waded through drifts of insect corpses, the tiny bodies turning into dust as you walked, until you were drowning in a sea of it.
You moved back into your own room after a few nights, tired of waking Loki up, and tired of not being able to present him with some kind of solution to your problems. He could not make it possible for noisy insects to live in Iceland, he could not remove your nightmares, and if a reality restructuring event couldn't take away your terrible memories, neither could he.
But if you just had to endure this, you could at least do it without waking him up every night. Even if his little questioning “Have I done something wrong?” broke your heart a bit. Though he must know that you weren't lying when you told him he hadn't, he didn't seem to believe it himself.
But in your own room, you could get up and pace, or mess around on your phone, or just sit at your desk and stare out the window at the stars. They seemed so bright and close.
A bit of inspiration one night led you on a Youtube search for 'ASMR Cicada Song 10 hrs'-a boon for your sleepless nights. You also found frog song, and crickets, and even cardinals. All four seasons of nature's singing...at least in Iowa. You lay your phone next to your pillow every night after, just letting the cicada recordings play. It helped a lot, but it was hard on your phone, and it meant you still couldn't go back to Loki. He surely didn't want to have to listen to this every night.
You still joined him for breakfast every day, and sometimes in the bath, allowing yourself to become more comfortable with the intimacy he so ardently wanted to share with you. In fact, despite the disrupted sleep, your schedule remained fairly normal. Magic practice and physical training, lessons with Saga, and paperwork with Loki. You even sat in with him as he saw to the needs of his petitioners, becoming more familiar with the values of the different divisions of Asgardian culture
You and Loki worked side by side on the Trolekaerhalla longhouses, not just supervising, but placing stones, and hauling earth. Some nights, when you looked out at the stars, cicadas singing from your phone, you could not get the sight of him out of your mind: hair braided back, hands dirty, carrying loads his worshipers couldn't manage by themselves. He wore workers clothes, and traced spells of blessing into the foundations, an Asgardian work song on his lips.
You had never wanted him more than when he was like that. When he just looked like a man.
That was another reason for your withdrawal into your own space. You needed time to think about what you really wanted out of this relationship.
Loki, bless him, was very patient and proper; he didn't push, and seemed more than happy to accept whatever level of affection you were comfortable giving him. It was clear that he was terribly vulnerable now-his insecurity was like a raw wound. You wished you could soothe it, but you had to figure yourself out first.
It seemed like all the pieces were there: the desire for closeness and intimacy, both physical and emotional. The mental connection. The respect, the pride, the admiration. The feeling of safety, the excitement. But something still caused you to hesitate.
It was Todd, you knew it was. Or rather, it was the baggage he had left behind. The horribly intimate knowledge that someone you trusted so deeply could treat you that way. That if one person you loved and trusted so much could do that, so could someone else. So could Loki.
You wanted so much to believe he wouldn't, that his gentleness and fervency was real, and would last.
But Todd had been the same way, at first.
And then there was the whole immortality thing. You weren't and Loki was-or lived on a time scale that meant he might as well be. If you were lucky, you might get another whole fifty to eighty years. But with your family's medical history, you might be very unlucky indeed. If a tumor began to form, if it was inoperable, like your mother and your aunt, you wouldn't even get a full year after that.
It hadn't happened yet, but it could happen at any time.
But Loki knew that, he knew about it and he wanted you anyway. Perhaps, with all of the things he'd been through, he understood the preciousness of time.
You had to think of the future too; if you didn't die young, if both you and he decided to make the relationship permanent, what would be required of you? No doubt Thor would make marriage between humans and Asgardians legal, but would the people recognize you? Would you be able to be a good wife? A good princess? With all your problems, would you even be able to keep up with your responsibilities? At that point, this relationship would effect far more people than just you and him.
And then there was the subject of children. You weren't having any. You decided long ago that you weren't suited to raising anything more complicated than a houseplant. But how disappointing would that be for Loki? Wouldn't the wife of a prince be practically required to produce at least one child to further the dynasty? Would half-Asgardian children be considered legitimate heirs? It didn't matter, because you weren't having any. You'd gotten that IUD when you'd first arrived here to make sure of it.
But would Loki be able to accept that?
How the people felt about it meant less to you. For one thing, Loki seemed perfectly willing to circumvent tradition for what he felt was right, and for another...well, you would die of old age, and he would not. He would have plenty of opportunity to marry a nice Asgardian girl and have some heirs after you were gone.
That would be fine, wouldn't it?
Well...you didn't like thinking about him with someone else, but at least you wouldn't be around for it. He shouldn't have to be lonely when you were gone, anyway.
That was only if you two decided to stay together until you died though. You were looking for permanence and stability now. You'd been through so much that you just wanted something reliable. But did you think Loki could provide that?
He was like you, in that he had endured some dark and terrible things. But was he like you in wanting something lasting? All you knew about his previous relationships was that almost all of them were based on lies and social climbing. Had Loki ever had someone who just wanted him?
Because you did. All the time. You couldn't help but think about it; about squeezing his hips with your thighs, biting his lip, curling your fingers in his hair. About his thin slash of a mouth, his long fingers, his searing eyes.
But also his little drawings, his soft sighs when you cuddled him, the effervescent buzz of his magic. His almost-familiar accent, and his excitement over you.
He was just so...good.
He had to be better than Todd. Had to be.
You wanted to go to him at night, you wanted to let him explore you more, but the little insecurities grabbed you and pulled you back before you could get to his door. What if you changed your mind partway through, and he didn't stop? What if he was just too strong, and he accidentally hurt you?
And what if somehow you didn't measure up? A thousand years was plenty of time to get into some weird kinks, and you didn't have any that you knew of.  There were some very, very pretty ladies in the Asgardian court, and Loki had been with some of them. He never indicated which ones, but it didn't matter. They were gorgeous, and probably smoking hot in the bedroom, and you were average and vanilla. What if he found you boring in bed? Just meh. A disappointment.
No, that was Todd talking. Just some of the bullshit he cooked up to make you try harder, to control you, to enslave you to his desires.
But what if it was actually true? You hadn't been with anyone since then; there had been no one to confirm or deny it.
Maybe you should just leap?
That night you were just reaching out for the doorknob when an image of Loki filled your vision. Disheveled and beautiful, but declining to look at you. Rolling over with his back to you instead.
You went back to bed and fell asleep to the sound of cicadas on loop.
                                                                                                       *****
Something was wrong with his lady, Loki knew.
He could see it in your sunken eyes, your sluggish movements, and dampened enthusiasm. You still worked hard, but you yawned harder.
And you, blasted, stubborn mortal, would not allow him to help!
He assumed you were losing sleep, and knew it was nightmares. He was familiar with that kind of thing. He couldn't stand to leave you alone with that suffering, locked inside the darkness in your own mind. He didn't care if he ended up sharing them with you; at least you wouldn't be alone then.
He also simply missed you. Of course, you were right there during the day, available to talk to and subtly caress, but there was something sublime about sleeping next to someone you cared about. Feeling their warmth, and the solidity of their presence. He missed the reassurance of your body next to his.
But you didn't want to be in his bed anymore, you only wanted your own. Did you not feel safe next to him? Did you not feel comfortable? Did you not trust him anymore? Despite your assurances that he hadn't done anything wrong, he still felt like he must have. You'd been very earnest when you'd said he hadn't, but maybe it was an instinctual thing: He must have done something you didn't realize you didn't like, and your subconscious was telling you to pull away.
Or maybe it really was just the nightmares. He had just gotten used to it being him. If only you would talk to him about it! But you just kept telling him not to dwell on it, that it was just something you had to deal with. It drove him mad. There had to be something he could do to help.
Advice was scarce for him. Thor had shamefacedly admitted that he hadn't been able to tell what Jane had needed from him, and it was a big part of the reason why she didn't love him anymore. Loki was too preoccupied with his own worries to roll his eyes. His brother was still a fool about some things.
Brunnhilde wasn't much help either. She was a woman, like you were, but she was not like you. Her idea of love and courtship was a lot more rambunctious and...well... Asgardian.
Loki didn't know any human women who would be willing to talk to him about this. He barely knew any human men who would. Eventually, he reached out to two people-Saldis, whom he asked to report any odd behavior on your part back to him, and the only human man who he both got along with, and thought might have some knowledge of human women.
Barnes.
Barnes had told him that human women could be complicated, but from his experience, if a lady had a problem and would not talk about it, it was because she didn't think the man in her life could actually do anything about it, and didn't want him to waste his energy trying, or raise his anger through failing. So he had to decide if he wanted to risk it.
He did, of course. He wanted to do everything he could for you.
So he waited as patiently as he could, allowing his passion to go cold and calculating, so that he could better glean through the information he was given. Saldis, so excited to be part of a secret royal plot, had discovered that you were listening to bugs on your phone, and she had sneaked a peek at your Youtube history.
Cicadas. Crickets, Tree frogs. Creatures that came alive at night, or dusk. Creatures from your home. None of them were found here. He was reminded of standing in the lovely Akureyri botanical garden, as you reminisced over a patch of inelegant but joyful coneflowers.
A taste of home. He understood. The fragrant breezes off the mountains of Asgard were no more. There were types of birdsong that would never be heard again. You needed these familiar sounds to soothe your mind.
And he needed your presence to soothe his.
He had an idea about what to do; a special present for you.
It was time for him to learn more about the mysterious land known as Iowa.

Aspect V : Of Confusion and Identification
Events were starting to roll together, to cascade and collide with each other. It was inevitable; I could not hope to keep things isolated, keep my tracks covered. Not that I wanted or needed to try very hard. But there was no way I could keep these events secret for much longer. Event 1: Cyrus frowned as he looked at the data pad concerning supplies and resources being shipped through the Forsaken Aspect's cargo Asura gate. The gate itself was intrinsically tied to the Home Base, and the autofactory there, and only ever transported finished goods or accepted other goods to be used in the construction of finished product. One of which, according to the datapad...was incorrect. "What the hell?... Deldrimor Steel ingots? Corrogen filament bundles? Liquid crystal in suspension fluid?... why are these numbers wrong?" He scrolled back up the list, frowning further. The numbers weren't dramatically wrong, but for the last few weeks apparently, one item would have more than the usual amount shipped into the holds. But the sell-rates indicated the standard amount was being sold on market. "Every time, we're shipping in 120% of the amount we need...but we're just selling the regular amount. Where's that 20% going?" He checked the logs, and raised an eyebrow. There's no way she'd make a mistake like this...unless, is she skimming from the top? No... It couldn't be.
Cyrus set out to find Verula. If she was actually involved in this, it would mean she was lying to him. And that had not happened before.
Event 2:
In another part of the ship, Verula was noticing something too. It wasn't the incoming shipping invoice versus the outgoing. But it was the fact that the missing resources were being diverted to a different hold on the ship. Again, it was a little bit at a time, and never more than one kind of resource at a time.
"Hrmm... Was it a transportation error?" She grumbled, running a claw down the bridge of her nose in frustration. The one thing she hated doing was going into the program code for the transport golems and Watchworks that normally did things semi-autonomously. An error in item transportation might be the first symptom of either a program failure... or of the Watchworks beginning to truly think for themselves. Neither was a good outcome.
"At least I know where it's all going." She sighed and began to head from the weapons bay towards the massive cargo holds. Verula consulted her own datapad, and shrugged. "I'll have to ask Cyrus why he's authorizing it though. If he just wanted to spare some stuff as a supply dump, or for a nestegg or something, we could have easily made the adjustment. There's no reason for him to be sneaky about it."
"...why ship it to Cargo bay 4 though?" The thought perplexed her.
Event 3:
Tenna couldn't really understand what was going on. She'd just been passing through the ship's corridors, thinking about one thing or another, when she realized she'd wandered by the cavernous cargo bays that lined the belly of the Forsaken Aspect. It still amazed her how big the ship really was, and delighted her how surprised the rest of the world would be if they ever revealed it, but the cargo bays were downright massive on their own! She almost felt they were so big they could have their own weather systems!
But here she was at Cargo 4...and she couldn't get in.
It wasn't a case of the bay doors being locked or anything. Well, they WERE; she could see the door indicator glowing red. But it was the two nine-foot tall Watchwork Knights standing guard on either side of the door with their almost-as-huge energy halberds crossed like a big X in front of those doors that confused her. Why were Watchworks guarding the doors?
"Watchwork Knights. User Code: Gamma-Three-Tenna-Solar." She intoned in a commanding voice, hands on her hips. "Acknowledge."
Both Knights turned their gazes towards her, their optics glittering green. Both spoke at the same time, in the same chippy monotone Watchworks used when they didn't have their mimic fields on. "User Acknowledged. Tenna Danae Acknowledged. How can this unit help?"
"Why are there two Watchknights guarding this bay? If I try to proceed, will you attempt to stop me?" Tenna queried, looking from one to the other.
"This unit was assigned to prohibit entrance to Cargo Bay 4 until further notice. Attempt to gain entry to Cargo Bay 4 will be met by escalating resistance." It replied simply.
Tenna knew what 'escalating resistance' meant. If she tried to push past, they would at first pick her up and move her back to 'safe distance' before returning to their posts. If she continued to try, they would increase their aggressiveness. First would come a gentle tap with the handle of the halberd. Then maybe a harder hit. Then a jab with the energy-tipped end. If she pushed really far and kept trying, they would revert to their Nightmare forms which were FAR more capable of bodily harm, with their grab-bag of horrifying weapons that were normally kept neutral in their simulacrum form.
"Who ordered you to guard this bay?" Tenna was now curious and irritated. There had to be something on the other side someone didn't want anyone to see. Depending on what name was spoken, it would say a lot about that person.
"This unit was ordered by Cyrus Sigismund to stand guard." The automaton replied, its voice fuzzing for a second.
Tenna stared at it. Was that a glitch? I almost caught something there. It said Cyrus's name, but... was that some distortion in it?
Event 4:
Sonnya headed down the airdock after using the service elevator. It had taken her a while to make it through the bustling morass that was the Lion's Arch aerodrome, but she finally found the docks she had been invited to.
It was an out-of-the-way dock, on the backside of the Aerodrome, with no other docks nearby. She could see just from looking that the reason it was alone on this side was because of the mountains that flanked Lion's Arch on the southern edge, the ridges before BloodTide Coast began. Oh, she could see another handful of docks sticking out of the upper reaches of the aerodrome on this side, far up the sheer walls of the building, but this one was the only one down near the rocks. Parking any kind of ship here must be anxiety-inducing and aggravating, as a mere wind could blow a ship off course and into the jagged peaks.
Yet sure enough, there was a modern Airship parked at the end of the dock, the protective energy walls of its main deck and the band that held the airship's floatation bag certainly marking it as a post-Scarlet design.
As she got nearer, she could see there was a crewman standing by the hatch, apparently on guard, or waiting for her. He was non-descript as they come; if you looked up 'Standard human' in a library, this man could be on the page as 'Example'.
"Hi, I'm Sonnya Danae? I was invited to board the Forsaken Aspect at dock 43?" She asked him, unsure if she had the right ship. She hadn't seen the moniker written on the side or on the energy bands anywhere. Was this the right ship?
The crewman looked her over once, a blank expression on his face, and nodded. "Sonnya Danae. Please follow me. You are expected in Cargo Bay 4." He gestured inside, and followed her in, securing the hatch behind them. As the door secured, Sonnya stumbled slightly. Something was off. Immediately her in-eye HUD lit up, searching for threats, and she did a quick scan of her environment.
What the?... It had to be a mistake. This was a Pact-standard airship! She knew the dimensions of a ship of this class! Even the hall itself didn't look like a standard Pact ship. The deck was solid and smooth, not rivetted metal, and the walls were clean and seamless. It was like it wasn't constructed in the same shipyards as the Fleet at all. So then why were her sensors reporting that, rather than stepping onto the bridge from that hatch, that she had stepped into some long corridor in a much larger vessel? Why was her HUD filled with such distortion? In trying to compare where she was to the diagram of a Pact ship, her mapper was fuzzing out and asking to be shut off due to error!
"What...what kind of ship is this?" She asked breathlessly, as the crewman walked slowly and smoothly down the hall.  He turned back slightly to consider her, before repeating. "You are expected at Cargo Bay 4. Please follow me."
Unable to understand, and wide-eyed with amazement, Sonnya could only follow.
Event 1 + 2 = Collision
"Verula. There you are." Cyrus's voice was slightly harsher than he would have liked. It hadn't taken him long to cross paths with the Charr soldier, even on a ship the size of the Forsaken Aspect. He waved the datapad at her idly. "I think we need to talk."
"Indeed we do." Verula replied, holding up her own slate and indicating the offending lines. "Just why are you diverting goods to Cargo Bay 4? Or is this a glitch in the inventory systems?"
Cyrus frowned, and handed her his slate, while taking hers. His frown deepened. "What in the hell? I never authorized this! Wait.... these items..."
His gaze shot up as Verula grunted, skimming the slate he'd given her. "Yeah. These are the items that are got redirected. So it's a system glitch." Her eyes narrowed suddenly. "What... Wait a moment. Why is MY authorization on this? I would never do this.... Is someone trying to set me up?!"
"So...you're not bringing in 120% of the usual goods and skimming 20% off for yourself?" Cyrus asked slowly.
She just looked at him, hurt. Then she countered. "Well, are you taking that 20% and sending it to Bay 4? And if I was skimming, then why were you authorizing the skimming by moving the product there?"
They were both silent, staring at each other, before glancing at the slates. "... We need to get to Bay 4. I got a bad feeling about this."
Event 1+2 x 3 = Cascade
Sonnya didn't know where she was on the ship, but near an intersection deep in the hull, she and the crewmember ran into two rather recognizable people. The moment she saw them, her suit's database brought up snapshots for her vision. That's that Cyrus Sigismund! And... Verula Faithbreaker? What are they doing here?
In surprise she'd simply stopped walking, staring at them as they approached at a rather brisk pace. They seemed to be in a bit of a hurry.
Cyrus looked up from the slate he was consulting, noticing the asura and crewman standing in the corridor intersection. His troubled expression settled into a perplexed frown, as he flicked his gaze from Sonnya to the crewman and back. It might have been just an illusion caused by reflected lights, but she swore she could see a faint purple glow behind his left pupil. "....Verula, do you have any idea why there's a stranger walking the decks of my ship?" He asked not-so-quietly. "... Or why there's a Watchwork Knight with its Illusion Matrix on, to look like some kind of ship's crew?"
A growl escaped the Charr warrior, and she reached for her sword and axe. "I do not."
"Watchwork Knight??" Sonnya's fear was sudden and abrupt. It wasn't that she couldn't take something like that these days; it was the fact that there was one close enough to her that it was an actual danger that made her jump. That's when she realized he'd been talking about the crewman, so she turned to look at him, wonderingly.
The crewman was looking at her with that same, calm, almost blank expression -- right before the 'Illusion Matrix' deactivated, revealling a kind of WatchKnight she'd never seen before. It wasn't one of Scarlet's designs, with exposed gearing and slapped-together parts. It wasn't even like the Queen's new Watchknight 2.0s that had been revealled at the last Queen's Jubilee. Those had been sleeker, more refined, but still had a distinctly machined appearance.
This Watchknight had smooth, rounded panels, more akin to a human frame than a puppet, with silvered filigree etched into its golden frame. Its mouth was still a simple hinge affair, which she now could see open and shut as a monotone, female voice came from it. "You are expected in Cargo Bay 4. Please come with me."
That got Cyrus's attention. He stepped up to Sonnya and the Watchknight, looking from one to the other. "Wait a moment. What do you mean she's expected at Bay 4? What is a non-crew member doing onboard my ship."
"I was invited!" Sonnya protested. "One of your crew invited me on board last week, for some reason."
"How? We were in Elona back then. How could anyone invite you?" Verula asked, sidling up beside Cyrus and crossing her arms. "Who would invite you? HOW would they invite you? A letter? They'd have to have some pretty good timing!"
The charr's cynicism irritated Sonnya, so she pulled a device off her belt and tossed it less-than-nicely to her. "I got this via mail over a week ago. I don't recognize the design, but's a damned comm, furball."
Verula took one look at the unit in her hand and her eyes widened. "Cyrus... this is one of OUR comms. But I only made four of those. I don't... this isn't one of mine."
"This just keeps getting more and more mysterious." Cyrus muttered, scratching his chin. "It still begs the question; if someone DID make another comm and send it to... What's your name?"
"Sonnya. Sonnya Danae." She replied smartly. She felt a bit more relaxed now that the pressure was off her. But now this human and charr both flinched away from her at the mention of her name.
"She's a Danae?" Verula asked carefully.
"Apparently so." He considered Sonnya as if for the first time, taking in her features. "Yeah, I can see it now. The shape of the chin, the eyes, the markings. You are her sister aren't you?" He paused, thinking back almost six months. "Wait a moment... I ran into you back in Hoelbrak during Dragonbash!"
Sonnya paled, before blushing heavily. Oh god, it was him wasn't it. That nice person who found me blitzed out of my head and made sure I slept it off was him. Why did it have to be him? She shook her head, groaning mentally as she remembered. It was the first time she'd drank alchohol since she had her implants fully installed, the first time since the incident with the Shatterer. Things had not gone as planned; instead of dulling down drunkness, the implants had worked overtime and done the exact opposite. She'd ended up badly drunk in public after only a few drinks, wandering the thoroughfares in a blissful, hiccup-ridden stupor until she'd bumped into someone.
That someone had helped her get to an inn room, and stuck around just long enough to make sure she'd started sobering up before they left. She'd always thought it was just some human, but she didn't realize just who she'd run into. "I...uh, yeah. That was me. Sorry about the... Dragonbash thing. I didn't get to thank you for making sure I didn't hurt myself. Or anyone else, for that matter."
He smiled a little bit, waving her thanks aside. "Eh, it was nothing. I couldn't just walk away from someone that out of it. I didn't know you were a Danae sister though."
Sonnya nodded "Now that I think about it, I remember seeing you before that time too. You came to get my little sister after she met me and my other little sister for drinks." Her expression clouded at the memory. "She... wasn't happy. With me I think."
"Little sister?... Do you mean...?"
Event (1+2 x 3) / 4 = Cascade
Tenna was still puzzling over the guardian Watchknights when she heard voices behind her in the hallway. One of them sounded like a very irritated Verula, another Cyrus's voice. Maybe they'd be able to shed some light on what was happening in Cargo Bay 4.
As she approached, she called out. "Hey Cyrus! There's something weird going on."
"Tenna?..." A familiar voice asked tenatively as she approached the cluster of people in the intersection. "Is... Is that you?"
She skidded to a stop, unprepared to hear the sound of her older sibling here, on board. "S-Sonnya? W-what are you..." She took a breath and collected herself. "What are you doing here??" Sonnya reluctantly thumbed at the very patient Watchknight standing beside her, still staring down at her. In response, the Watchknight repeated its directions. "You are expected at Cargo Bay 4. Please come with me."
Tenna shook her head and gaped. That was exactly why she was here. What the hell was going on? She looked at Cyrus, who was obviously trying to puzzle things out. She knew that look on his face; he was trying to fit all the pieces together, and whatever he was thinking, it wasn't something he liked. "Cyrus, what the hell is going on? Cargo Bay 4 is under lock-down and guard apparently on your orders. You and Verula both look like you've been eating lemons, and apparently my sister's been invited on board by someone??"
Cyrus's hand was cupping his chin while he thought, but he idly flexed a few fingers in a dismissive fashion. "Seems to be the jist of it yet. Well, you didn't know about the resource allocation, or the fact that it's been going into that bay as well...apparently under me and Verula's alternating authority."
"What?!"
He sighed, took a deep breath and started walking towards the bay. Already he could see the nine-foot tall guardians watching him carefully. Behind him, he could hear every one following him. The pitter-patter of the Asura's little legs. The heavy clunk of Verula's armored gait. And the calculated tink tink tink of the Watchknight escorting Sonnya.
At the locked bay, he stopped, staring at the guardians for a moment. They stared back, halberds still crossed over the path.
"... Aspect, just what the hell is going on." He called out. "I know you're the one behind all this, now that we've gotten all the pieces. Was it you that invited Miss Sonnya here as well?"
Sonnya looked at him perplexed. "Uh... I wasn't invited by someone named Aspect. I was invited by--"
"I suppose I had better confess." A voice came from a wall mount. The familiar golem-eye extended, looking at everyone. "I knew I couldn't keep it completely secret, but I had hoped for a bit more time before this event. I will just have to work with what I have then."
Cyrus looked at the eye sadly. "Aspect, what have you done?"
The asuran Guardian gaped at the wall unit, recognizing the voice coming from it. "Hey! Wait, that voice! I know that voice! You're the one who invited me! But you called yourself--"
With that, the doors to the bay unlocked with a loud clank and began to trundle open. Both of the guardian Watchknights pulled back from their posts and knelt, heads down, mirroring each other across the passage. A thick fog began to spill from inside as the doors opened; it was warm, like the breath of a hotspring.
As the fog spilled out, it began to thin, and everyone there could make out a figure standing in the doorway. It wasn't a Watchknight, or any other kind of construct. It looked...human.
Stepping out from inside, into the light of the corridor, a slim, pale woman opened her eyes and looked at them all. A small smile touched her lips, and she shrugged slightly.
"You can call me... Alice."
Event (1+2 x 3) / 4  = Null.
I am here. I have no need to hide anymore.
