i need to grab him by the ankle and spin him over my head and smash him into the wall
same as Waleran, i really Really disliked him on my first playthrough. man had no subtlety to how suspicious he seemed and he only matched that with how cruel he was to his lessers. then Book 2 happened and sniffs snif actually i quite like you you contentious stick man.
spoilers for the rest of the game/some parts of the book/a part of the miniseries under the cut!
i think him being relegated from Main Antagonist of the first part to becoming a perpetually disgruntled subprior who Can respect you if you do the right things stuck to me. don't get me wrong, he's spiteful and conservative and still especially disdains Ellen, and he would probably cane teenagers if Philip wasn't there, and the younger monks are still obviously afraid of him. look at how they flinch when Remigius snaps his book shut. but hey. i never said he was a good person, just an interesting one.
there's a bit after the fleece fair attack where Remigius tries to take over Philip's speech to the people after he fails in his despair. you can read it as annoyance- Remigius could have left him right there and reveled in his misery but it shows he has principles beyond getting one over Philip, at the very least a duty to pick up where the prior can't.
for all of Remigius's blustering and clear contempt for everything and everyone, everything he says is all bark and no bite. he's a coward. in the book, he runs away when trying to carry Adolphus' bones out of the burning cathedral out of fear. he treats others like dirt but he's completely subservient to, and terrified of, waleran.
he can be agreeable when he wants to be. when the timeskip happens in Book 3, we see Kingsbridge fallen green into disrepair. it's not bustling as it once was, a lot of people have either died in the attack or left afterwards- and Remigius is still there. if you finished the game then we all know he was probably still there just to monitor Philip for Waleran. but with Milius and Cuthbert dead and with Tom out of the picture, they're left with each other and for Once. Cynical Philip and Remigius seem to see eye to eye with how to run Kingsbridge- quietly. perhaps it's conjecture but that's the impression i got at the beginning of their argument. it's a shame that this part of Kingsbridge isn't covered very much because it could have been interesting to see what life had become for its inhabitants And to see Remigius and Philip's relationship at that point
then everyone comes back and Remigius defects to become dean of Shiring lol. i won't touch on the book or miniseries too much here but this ends up being a bad move- Waleran throws him out on his ass and he becomes a beggar. when Philip and Remigius meet again it's a whole pitiful thing and like. he tries to hold on to what little defiance he has left. it's! and i like this bit because (even if it's self-serving) he has the capacity to change, very much Prodigal Son-esque.
none of that happens in the game but whichever canon you subscribe to, i think both are very Remigius :]
THEN comes the finale. the trial. Waleran is decked out in his bitchiest liturgical garb! its a fun little show trial calling for Philip's imprisonment! then Waleran calls in Remigius to the stand. he didn't fall down on his luck in the game, this is Waleran's star witness. the culmination of his duties is Remigius ratting on Philip and YET he still manages to find something good to say about him, about how he helped the Earlscastle refugees. he's finally in this position of power, too, as the dean of Shiring, but he's clearly still in Waleran's leash. when Remigius puts out his own opinion on the miracle, Waleran shoots him a Look(tm) and he immediately changes course. THEN he continues pointing the finger at Philip. its so! he has mixed priorities here!
and when Waleran- for the first time at this point- is genuinely baffled by the revelation that James didn't drown in the river- he has NO why the gang is claiming this but he looks at Remigius, fuming. because it was his one job. all he had to do was kill James, and he didn't, and he failed, so he has to pay the price.
BUT THE THING IS! this was Remigius's one act of defiance. they hanged Jacques Cherbourg in 1125, and this trial is taking place in 1155. for 30 years- he's been in Waleran's grasp, he 'fulfilled his role as sub-prior wonderfully' all this time. Remigius is a dog and a coward through and through... but he could not bring himself to kill James. and i'm choosing to believe that it was because he was his friend. it just ties in so neatly with the idea that perhaps over the years he's grown close enough to some people in the priory that maybe he could be better- despite the overwhelming control that Waleran has on him.
IT ALSO TIES IN VERY WELL WITH REMIGIUS MINISERIES'S DEAD GAY LOVER BACKSTORY but that's a whole thing for another time
the funniest meltdown ive ever had was in college when i got so overstimulated that i could Not speak, including over text. one of my friends was trying to talk me through it but i was solely using emojis because they were easier than trying to come up with words so he started using primarily emojis as well just to make things feel balanced. this was not the Most effective strategy... until. he tried to ask me "you okay?" but the way he chose to do that was by sending "👉🏼👌🏼❓" and i was so shocked by suddenly being asked if i was dtf that i was like WHAT???? WHAT DID YOU JUST SAY TO ME?????????? and thus was verbal again
Nico referring to his mom as "Mama" implies he most likely at least used to refer to Hades as "Papa" and i 100% headcanon he still does but mostly in the manner of him having the entire Underworld wrapped around his finger for being the baby of the family
About how Robin's halo isn't a closed circle, but more like a branch forming a circular shape, where the start and stem don't touch. It's also uneven in shape and splits into three flowers, like it's allowed to grow freely, unobstructed. Something about Robin having left Penacony and having escaped the confines of her cage, being able to flourish. About her being able to let people in, and connect to them.
Meanwhile Sunday stayed behind to be the head of the Oak family and conform to the strict role that's expected of him, and his halo is a perfectly symmetrical shape that's practically fully closed off. It's sharp, almost more like a crown of thorns than a halo. And it almost doesn't have any openings to let anything, or anyone, in easily. It actively discourages getting close to it.
And then if you want to get sappy about, which I will - Sunday doesn't let anyone in, with that almost completely sealed, thorny halo of his... But there's an opening in Robin's halo, and so it can fit around Sunday's. Something about him always being able to find solace in her, because there's room for him in her (halo) heart always, by design.
Quackity: These past days I've been in many calls, and I'm not done yet. I've spoken to a lot of people and creators. I've read your comments and I'm well aware of what needs to be done to carry out this project. I want to tell you all, beforehand, that for me the team's well-being is fundamental. I'm very involved in this topic to sort it out and I want to make that very clear. I want to tell you something... I want to tell you all that the administrative staff responsible for so much harm to the project has been fired. Specifically, those who made decisions without my permission, affecting the administrative and financial area of the project. Consequently, after this, I was in charge of doing a financial analysis that's carrying out for the QSMP.
Guys, to be really honest, it was not going to last. Therefore, I've had to make deep drastic structural changes that have lead me to reduce the performance of the server down to the most essential, and this is in order to ensure the well being of everyone involved in it. Having said this, I want to give a very important update: I want to let you all know that the QSMP will have to slow down temporarily. This is to ensure this new structure adapts to the project, because it's a restructuring that's taking place. I'm letting you know, and I reiterate, there are no voluntary positions inside the QSMP.
At the moment, there will not be any more individual update accounts of all 5 existing languages in the project. In any case, during this transition, there's going to be a temporal absence of all Eggs and NPCs. I know these are difficult changes, and I repeat, it's temporary until we adjust to these new conditions that will improve the performance of this new structure that's being made from scratch, both in the administrative and financial part. I'd like to reintegrate people fro the QSMP as time goes by if a financial viability can be found for the project Taking advantage of this update to tell you guys that within the changes of the server as it is, creators will have full control of their lore and stories. The team will not intervene in the way that it was being done. Moreover, efforts will be made to change the competitive dynamics inside the game so as to ease up the game style for the creators. Like I'm saying, all of these changes, and more, are being carrying out to have the project as best as possible, and they're being done little by little. This is a whole new structure that will ensure the best continuity and experience for the creators, the community and the team behind.
Guys, I want to make very clear that this is restructuring process, and again, it's not a fast one. The server being open does not mean everything's perfect, I understand that very well. Conversations will keep taking place, communication will continue and the constant improvement of the project as well. I ask, please, for everyone's patience and understanding regarding all changes. Please do wait for official announcements since a lot of incomplete and incorrect information is being spread. I want to tell you all something- if you don't trust in these changes or have many doubts about it, and don't want to consume any more of the project's content, I understand 100%. I have a personal commitment with the QSMP and I will work until it functions in the way it is supposed to do.
Lastly, I want to let you know that it was being worked on for months on finalizing the integration of Korean creators to the QSMP. For that reason, tomorrow we will be welcoming the new Korean creators of the QSMP, of course, taking into account all the changes I've just mentioned. I hope you can give the new Korean members warm welcome to the project. And as you know, their schedules are earlier. For everyone who would like to watch, they will be joining at 11am Mexico time and at 9am US time. Basically, I wanted to give that update regarding everything that's being done within the project. Again, thank you for your patience and understanding- these are necessary changes and I'm glad they're being done now. And many more things will keep being adjusted.
i have another pet tip, for all pets not just dogs: take them to the vet young and/or soon after you adopt them, BEFORE something is wrong with them. either book a basic wellness appt for checks (no shots or procedures) or just ask the vet if it's ok if you drop by with the pet either on leash or in a carrier and just get as far as the waiting room or outside the clinic if they're still doing COVID airlock protocols or busy. plan for this to take several hours. let the pet approach the vet office entrance and hear/see/smell the waiting room, windows into the room, the door, all the spots around the door, etc. engage positively with them if they're feeling interested, soothe them if they're nervous, and give high value treats if possible. maybe assign a super S tier treat JUST for the vet (bacon, shrimp, stinkiest cheese, whatever). feeding them can short circuit their anxiety loops (not all the time for every animal, but as a general guideline). even a single positive exposure to the vet office environment will help next time you bring them in. a treat jackpot for every time they act brave and explore further is a great technique
vet visits aren't just more pleasant when the pet is not freaking out, they're safer for the vet and safer for the pet, not just because animals injure themselves and humans when scared, but also because it's a lot harder to examine a panicky cat or aggressive dog. if your pet is sick and you bring it to the vet and the vet needs four techs just to restrain it to take a temperature, that vet is not going to be able to get a good observation of the symptoms. they won't be able to get a baseline blood pressure or heart rate. panic alone can kill small animals like rabbits and birds.
when you meet the nurse or tech or vet at an appointment, pass them some of the special treats and ask them to feed some to the animal if the animal is willing to take them and it doesn't interfere with the appointment. vets are usually able to spare a couple seconds to do this to make the visit easier and the next visit even easier. i did this for my dog and he thinks the vets are his best friends even though he's had multiple surgeries, vaccinations, exams where he was nervous or uncomfortable, etc.
not all animals can be acclimated to the vet but most can. in an emergency it can make a huge difference whether your pet is a behavior case when you bring them in to the office or not, which is not the vet's fault but a factor of animal behavior. you can plan for it and make it easier on yourself!
edit: buying a muzzle in your dog's size and getting him used to it is an even bigger bonus tip. vets will love you for this. even good dogs sometimes need a muzzle. pain and fear do weird things to animal behavior
Time & Space pages 1-2 ( This is the start || ao3 (not yet!) || next )
Starts less than 24 hours after the death of Willy Stampler. With the job done, there's finally time to sort some things out. They just need the right amount of space.
I will say this once because I'm tired of seeing stupid discourse: anti-transmasculinity is not about being treated bad because we clock as men, it's about being treated as stupid little girls because transphobes think we've been tricked into this.
It's kind of the opposite of transmisogyny- instead of fear and revulsion, it's constant condescension, the implications that we've been whisked away from femininity by scary bad guys, that we're going to cause 'irreparable damage' because we don't know what's best for ourselves, somehow. People fearmonger a lot about the "ugliness" of transfem people, but for transmasc people that 'ugliness' is used as a warning- you'll look like THIS! You'll go BALD! Your top surgery scars will leave you MUTILATED! A lot of aesthetic concerns. Worry about our 'beauty'. Because it comes from that same stupid reactionary 'we gotta SAVE the WOMEN' shit, but this time they have to save them from getting 'stolen away', as if we're being seduced or pressured into this. As if we can't make our own decisions.
For TERFS specifically, they're losing one of their own. We're 'gender traitors', willingly aligning ourselves with the half of the population they consider unilaterally dangerous and evil.
We aren't REALLY trans, we just want the benefits that men get. You don't actually want to transition, you're just trying to avoid misogyny.
You aren't actually a man, you're just a self-loathing lesbian.
Why can't you just be a butch girl? Why can't you just be a tomboy?
Why can't you just be something that I don't think is icky?
Anyway. Like all things, it boils down to misogyny. Women stupid and gentle, dont know what best for them, evil men trick into taking man juice, must save because lady stupid and dont know what best for them (having babies and being Feminine).
Theres like. Obviously more to this but I'm just a Transmasc Rando explaining this from my perspective, and I'm not the best with words. Anyone is free to hop in and add on to this
I might be poking at a bear here but I kinda really dislike the "all or nothing" attitude the WoF fandom has. This character is evil the worst piece of garbage imaginable or is secretly a great character and you're just a fool for thinking otherwise. It's ridiculous at times
Like I recall the stuff with Secretkeeper a while back. Now, call me crazy, but I don't think she's some horrifically abusive and neglectful parent. She did the best that she could. Was it great? No, but she was trying to keep her daughter safe in a hostile world that she was terrified would reject or, worse, hunt her. Her leaving Moon alone for days was bad, yes, but she wanted to keep Moon free from the horrors of the volcano. She loved Moon and clearly took care of her a lot. You can't just look at a character and paint them as being a "horrible abusive POS" for something that, let's be real here, is much more forgivable and understandable than anything Coral, Scarlet, Diamond, Cobra, Jerboa, or Kestrel did
