Thinking about writing my first ever fan fic (Charpim hehe), do you have any tips about planing or writing fic in general. I really hope I don’t overthink myself out of writing it.

I am super bad at finishing fics unfortunately... but a good tip i have is to do a clear outline, and ALWAYS have an end point in mind. The worst stories or shows youll ever see are always the ones where theyre clearly making shit up as they go along and dont have anywhere its really going to. Tell a story with purpose. A story with 5 total chapters and a satisfying end is ALWAYS better than a fic with 500 chapters and nothing is even really going on. I would make sure you have a solid point A and point B, and then go through and outline big events in between that make everything tie up. The fics I tend to finish are usually the ones where I know exactly where its going, so theres no lulls and I dont reach any dead ends where I dont know where to take things next.

Also a good tip for dialogue, I usually will just sit down and close my eyes and literally just talk as the characters in my head. I'll imagine them having a conversation and think about it in their voices, and then stuff that they say or jokes will kind of just write themselves. If you dont think about them saying it specifically, youll get dialogue that would never come out of that persons mouth. Try to pay attention to what kind of words they do and dont say, certain terms they use or how big their vocabulary is. For Charpim specifically, getting down their speech cadences is super important, otherwise it just sounds like you wrote two OCs and kinda slapped their names on it.

Lastly, just GET THAT SHIT DOWN. Dont think too much and just fucking write, cus you can ALWAYS go back and fix it. Its easier to fix writing you have actually down on paper than all of it just being in your head and never physically being somewhere you can read it. I think youll find as you write, it turns out better than you think it will.

Writing as these guys is SOOO fucking fun. I hope it goes well for you and you end up finishing it !!

When I was young my dad offhandedly told me he thought people treated fish with so much casual cruelty because fish can’t scream.

The words branded themselves across my soul.

As an adult I think he may have been joking. He payed no especial attention to any indignities fish suffered in our household but I could never forget. I saw fish in a different light after that.

Fish kept in tiny bowls, breathing their own poisons, dying by inches. Fish kept in cold tanks, casually disposed of. Fish touted as being short lived when they could outlive the better loved family dog if only they could breathe. Fish casually won and discarded in cheap plastic bags, thrown away a week later.

How they would scream, if they could.
