Shag & Scoob
Every once in a while I will delude myself into thinking the internet can't surprise me anymore. It's not that it's a less wild and wacky place than it was in my youth, although the frontier days are certainly over, I've just seen more things now. I was wrapped in such a blanket of hubris when I came across the webcomic titled Shag & Scoob and Friends, let me tell you I was once again wrong. The internet has out-stranged my wildest dreams yet again.
The most fascinating thing about Shag & Scoob is undoubtedly how the series has rapidly evolved. It starts as this purposefully shitty gag-a-day format featuring Shaggy and Scooby from Scooby doo that isn't quite Sweet Bro & Hella Jeff-level, but certainly can see that exercise in metatextual foreshadowing and oddly quotable dialog pretty clearly from its level. A storyline eventually coalesces as our two go on a rambling amble with a clearly stoned Kermit The Frog that takes them to a seemingly abandoned underground laboratory where the party gets split up by plot-convenient Horrors.
This is where the story goes what is medically known as "off the fucking chain." Our heroes encounter a menagerie of cartoon characters, most of which seem to know the pair already, and a menacingly grody Mickey Mouse who definitely is up to something.
What follows is a series of escalating reveals. The cartoon characters are aliens who broadcast the cartoons they're based on (well, that are based on them in this setting I suppose) as an olive branch to earth, being watched and known by humans gave the toons specific themed superpowers somewhere between a Jojo stand and a HeroAca quirk, Scoob used to be an alien general before he lost his memory, Scoob is frenemies with Bugs Bunny who is seriously badass, the cartoons are at war with the martians who use an evil edgy version of their superpowers, oh yes there are martians I forgot to mention, and it just keeps going. Trust me when I say I have not even begun to mention all the intensely anime shit that happens in this story.
I will admit I initially kept with this thing mostly to see when the show ran out of crazy but cool fight anime tropes to have our goofy-looking protagonists experience first hand, but now I'm kind of into it? The characters arcs are following your typical anime formulas, but implemented with dexterity that has you going "about fucking TIME" rather than the bored, sarcastic "wow, how unexpected."
It also helps that there's a strong horror bent to the proceedings. I never thought, for example, Miss Bellum from Power Puff Girls could be quite as terrifying as she appears in this series, but by jove she a fresh new nightmare. It also makes for an interesting way of pacing the anime fight shenanigans as new foes are either disturbing abominations who are terrifyingly strong, or Just Dudes, which we all know to be the scariest thing in a battle anime.
I should also mention the series seem to be on some sort of hiatus as the last upload was in December 2022. I hope it returns one day, but for now, enjoy the gloriously genuine battle anime madness.

Don't calm down - Soulwinder comic inspired poem, be mindful of some spoilers? Idk, nobody here probably has heard of it anyways.
The Great Contraption was working,
Till the starwinder was purloined.
Chaos erupted,
Job abruptly withdrawn.
Life flipped upside down,
Haunted, chased and lost.
Feels like running in a circle,
Chasing leads, while leads cease to be.
What's happening..?
Soulwinders, stress, don't panic.
Friends, strangers, connections,
Safety, peace, warmth.
Temporary…
Leads, death, stress.
Keep looking, nothing is the same.
Lost, frustration, fear.
Don't unwind…

Me like "yes I was obsessed with brawl in the family as a child the cocoon academy arc was so good, truly a masterpiece, brought the comic to the next level, and all the callbacks later on are so good" and then after getting you hyped for a comic with storyline and continuity, I open up the first brawl in the family comic to show you this formative webcomic experience of my life. and it's this

ay don't worry bout the creative dips man. if you don't wanna write anymore, don't force yourself cauee it'll make u feel shitty n stuff
Yeah. Creative burnout or whatever it's called sucks so bad. I'm lucky in the way that I can pull my creativity to something else for it to focus on, so it doesn't get burned out on the same thing, but with Stardew it takes an especially long time for my interest to (for lack of a better term) grow back. But yeah, as of right now my interest in SDV is fucking gone lmfao. Hopefully it'll come back some day but who knows.
I definitely don't regret making this blog though. I've been able to share my writing with a large group of people for what I think is seriously the first time in my life. And my experience with the Stardew community has been amazing overall. Yeah, there are bad apples here and there, but I've never come in contact with one directly. And I count myself lucky for that.
So, like, in conclusion, you guys are great, keep up the good work, and maybe I'll start writing again. But for now, just expect some (key word some) reblogs. And maybe the answering of an ask every now and again. Until next time, folks.

Comic recommendations?
Im looking for something with a more unique art style. Ur stuff is cool did you know anyone else?
Oh man, firstly, thanks! <3 I only just nailed it down this year and I'm loving it.
Secondly, in my short time in the webcomics scene, I've found a few cool comics here and there. I have some suggestions, but I'm not sure what you might mean by unique-so I went ahead and nabbed a few comics that stood out to me, or are on my reading list and are made in a different medium/different technique.
Starting with some Hiveworks under the cut, then going more niche/indie as the list goes on, as well as a sites where you can find some stuff you may like!
The Golden Boar is a comic I adore. The art has a pastel look to it that I really dig, and I LOVE the worldbuilding so far. I enjoy stories with non-humans as a basis for the world, so I was already sold by the cute horned people that live in the moonlit forest aspect-but I'm also a BIG fan of summoners and how they work in relation to the magic system of the world (hence Tovera's focus on summoners and people adjacent to non human beings), and the Golden Boar tackles that head on while also looking gorgeous and unique. It is ongoing right now.
Stand Still, Stand Silent is just eye-wateringly beautiful. I actually haven't started reading it BUT it's on my list. It goes into Norse mythology and the magic of language, which is my jam-HOWEVER, it's worth mentioning that if you have religious trauma, I would hold back from checking out the artist's newer work. She converted to Christianity a few years back (great! no problem!) but some of the phrasing she uses to describe her past work suggests a shift into a conservative kinda mindset. Of course, feel free to make your own conclusions about the creator, but I personally am choosing to binge this comic and ignore anything new she makes. It's been finished for a while now.
Saint for Rent has a gorgeous art style, and I've also been meaning to read it-but alas, my backlog is horrid, so I've laid off of it, PLUS it's on hiatus, which I KNOW will drive me crazy. You might dig it though, since it definitely stands out among its peers.
Witchy is a gorgeous comic with a magic system based on the historic link between witches and hair! I actually read all of it and it's a GREAT read, though the creator has expressed dissatisfaction with the magic system/hair system. UNFORTUNATELY it's on hiatus-BUT, at least 6 complete chapters are up to read, and the cliffhanger isn't too painful.
I'm getting a little woozy as I type this, so I'll leave it here, BUT if you wanna find more cool, unique comics, I suggest ComicAdNetwork and ComicFury. You can go through the genres and see if you can find something you like/that looks interesting! I hope this helped you find some new stuff to read!

Any webcomic you like aside from homestuck?
what happens next is pretty fantastic. in terms of shorter and complete/self-contained stuff i also really liked apothecia, drop-out and pinky and pepper forever. content warnings on those four for all kinds of nasty stuff though like murder and suicide and so on. it's a real mixed bag (sometimes it is mawkish, sometimes it is trite, sometimes it is cheap shock humour), but there's a lot of a softer world strips i look on very fondly. problem sleuth is great and iirc avaialble with the unofficial homestuck collection. i fell off paranatural but what i read was really good. um. don't know if i read anything else other than popular gag-a-day strips like xkcd, smbc, oglaf, etc.
i used to keep up with gunnerkrigg court, darths and droids, and order of the stick back in the day but i have no idea if they're still good or even still updating so i wouldn't take any of those as 'recommended', exactly. oh and my girlfriend swears by the tapestry -- i haven't read it myself but but i trust its judgement.
finally i also have my own really good webcomic made of my own intellectural property , hand made with sweat and blood pixel by pixel. i post it on this blog and its called permission & compensation.

Genuinely I would give anything to hear your thoughts or read more critical analysis of yours on other webcomics writing (*slides you Marionetta* I like the webtoon but there are some things in the writing that I'd like to see be discussed critically more often but the fandom focuses way too much on shipping. sighs..)
Anyway, you probably have been asked this before but are there any webtoons in particular you would recommend? :D
Oh lord, you don't know how many times a week I get asks in my inbox asking for my opinions on webtoons they're reading. It's really sweet that people wanna hear me talk about other works outside of LO, but unfortunately I just don't have the time to read as much as I used to, even keeping up on LO lately is getting really difficult 😅 I'm definitely keeping a list though of works to check out!
That said, I try not to read series on the basis of criticizing them because frankly I just... don't want to spend time reading something if people are only looking for me to rag on it? 😆 Of course I know that's not the only reason, I know there's also just the element of seeing me talk extensively about other works the way that I do with LO, but it's not really something I can turn on and off like that, I have to get really into a series to want to talk about it to that extent. So it often comes down to just luck of the draw :'0
Right now the series I'm keeping up the most on (or have completed and would absolutely 100% re-read):
Alfie (18+, it's porn with plot but the plot is REALLY GOOD , I SWEAR LMAO the art is gorgeous, the characterization is IMMACULATE, and it ironically tackles the subject of purity culture way better than LO ever has lol)
Theia Mania (the creator is often in my comment section / neck of the woods, she's been working on an Abduction of Persephone retelling for a long while now and has also tackled other myth retellings in her style! I always love seeing new pages of her work in my feed :' ) <3)
Tales from Alderwood (if you like fantasy and comedy, this one's great, the plot's really starting to get interesting and it's just got this really great sense of humor about it)
The Black Parade (this one's REALLY interesting, it's a comic-stylized version of My Chemical Romance's The Black Parade, using the songs as narration and sometimes even dialogue to tell a visual story, it's really cool and the art matches beautifully with the lyrics and style of MCR!)
A Tale of Two Rulers (this is a Legend of Zelda fancomic that poses the question, "What if Zelda and Ganondorf got married to solve their political crisis?" It updates a lot slower than most of the other comics I follow but the art and writing is so worth it <3)
Dogs of Future Past (and p much all of Lynx's Undertale comics which can be found in the link, seriously, THESE are the comics you wanna read if you wanna get into Undertale fanworks, they are PEAK)
Tamberlane (this one's an anthro comic, I normally don't read anthro but this one actually gripped me by the throat, the art is gorgeous and the character arcs so far have been great!)
The Mafia Nanny (okay it's legit so funny that I'm including this one here but I've been reading it the last couple days after seeing it basically beat out LO at the top of the trending tab for a couple days, so I figured I'd give it a shot, at first I was like "great more tropey shit" but the more I read it the more it's actually started to get pretty good, I'm holding out and hoping to god it stays that way LOL it's not especially deep or anything like that, but it's really fun and cute to read and the shipping of the main character within the narrative isn't too self-absorbed which I can always appreciate, I'd honestly be 100% fine with it if it didn't turn into a romance)
City of Blank (I talk about this one a lot here, but it's one of my favorite Originals right now, the art is super polished and the writing has gotten INTENSE, go check it out if you want some fun action / sci-fi storytelling!)
Time and Time Again (a time-travelling vampire and his werewolf boyfriend get into all kinds of misadventures, what more could you ask for?)
Touch of Divinity (like the Mafia Nanny, this is one I just started reading, it's got a very interesting premise so far and I'm looking forward to seeing where it goes!)

okeyyy...i know this acc is preddy much good and dead, rest in peace all my dearly beloved tgcfmdzs mutuals and followers who moved on to smth else in the yrs since mdzs ended, ....but i still have a big enough active audience methinks soooo i wanted 2 promote a korean novel thats REEALLY unappreciated in the eng community ITS SO GOOD its my favourite novel atm and i really want it to catch on w western audiences bcuz i swear it has the potential to be as big as mxtxs novels were if given the opportunity to blow up...
RETURN OF THE MOUNT HUA SECT (aka, officially, RETURN OF THE BLOSSOMING BLADE) is an action, fantasy, comedy korean novel by BIGA on Naver, with a webcomic by STUDIO LICO on Webtoon
THE WEBCOMIC IS CURRENTLY ON BREAK AFTER THE COMPLETION OF ITS FIRST “SEASON” (will be returning sometime mid 2023) AND THE NOVEL IS STILL ON GOING WITH 1494 CHAPTERS (as of 4/15/2023)....if uve read tgcf in its entirety pls dont let that chp count scare you..rotmhs is a very bingeable novel... while rotmhs doesnt have an official english translation, the ongoing fan tl has 379 chapters translated (as of 4/15/2023) [LINKS PROVIDED BELOW]
MY SYNOPSIS: the story follows the main protagonist chung myung, a member of the mount hua sect who was formerly known as the legendary ‘plum blossom sword saint’, reincarnates into the body of a beggar child a hundred years into the future after dying following the beheading of the demonic cult leader, chun ma, who slaughtered his clan members as well as countless other sects during the war. when he wakes, he discovers that his once proud and respected sect has fallen into ruin during the century following its defeat. chung myung, hiding his identity as a fabled hero from the past, rejoins the mount hua sect under the guise of being nothing but a beggar to help restore the mount hua sect to its former greatness while making friends as well as enemies along the way..
the official (webtoon) synopsis:
When Cheongmyeong of the Mount Hua Sect awakens a hundred years in the future, his last memories are of a bloody battle against the Leader of the Demonic Cult, the evil Cheonma. The battle almost saw the end of the Ten Great Sects of ancient China, when Cheongmyeong ended the hard-fought struggle by striking down Cheonma. Soon after, he succumbed to his wounds, filled with regret at their pyrrhic victory. All is not lost, however, as he awakens to his second chance at life. Shocked to find his beloved Mount Hua Sect reduced to a mere shadow of itself in the present day, Cheongmyeong embarks on a journey to restore Mount Hua to its former glory.
while the official synopsis does make it seem like the story is going to be heavy and action focused, the novel itself is more comedic than its led on to be and its action scenes are rlly fun and exhilarating to read..
the main cast are extremely likeable and their relationship w each other is very funny and heartwarming... that being said i feel like if uve come from any of the popular danmei novels and r interested in reading rotmhs (PLEASE BE INTERESTED) i feel like i shuld mention that THERE IS NO ROMANCE IN THIS NOVEL... its not a BL, theres no romantic connotations between any of the main characters, this novel is more focused on found family and the bonds between friends than anything BUT PLEASE PLEASE DO NOT LET THE LACK OF ROMANCE DISSUADE YOU..
AIIISSHH THIS IS GETTING LONG ENOUGH soo basically here are links 2 where u can read ROTMHS please consider reading it PLEASE bc im sick as hell of not having enough fics or fanart of it or ppl to talk to abt it with..feel like im rting art on my priv to brick walls....!!!!!!!!!!
