For neopet's review's would love to hear your thoughts on lenny's! I think they have some really nice color's

Lennies are one of many bird Neopets, but they do have one thing that immediately helps them stand out: their anatomy, which is more akin to a shorebird or emu than the standard songbird. Originally their head feathers were part of a jester's cap of sorts, and while the jester idea was lost over time (if it was even intentional to begin with), the distinctive head and tail feathers remain.

Color-wise they're about as simple as you can get, using one primary color with an accent (orange in the base colour, variable otherwise) for the legs and beak. They can get away with having no markings because of their very lean bodies, and the wings also help break things up a bit.

Lenny didn't really change in any notable way with customization, outside of becoming a little less excited and vaguely gaining a fist, which isn't too noticeable due to them having wings.

Favorite Colours:

Faerie: I really like how the faerie Lenny is vaguely based off a peacock (though unlike peafowl, this is a gender-neutral design), but it doesn't take it overly literally, serving more as an abstract reimagining. The Lenny's default three tail feathers are still there, but they've been made much longer and given a side span of other tail feathers to join them. They also have beautiful layered wings with secondary eyespots and much more pronounced head plumage than an actual peacock. The color palette is also beautiful, using blues, teals, and magentas together with lots of layering and markings. Really nice.

The UC/styled version is a bit better than the converted, as while both are similar, the converted inexplicably kept the three tail feathers where they are normally, along with missing the cheek feathers and slightly loosing the wing eyespots. Plus, of course, the pose is much nicer.

Burlap: The burlap Lenny was the first ever burlap pet, and was in fact the design shown in the "choose a new colour" poll that burlap originates from. I feel like over time this colour has unfortunately become too much like plushie 2.0, but this original concept is fantastic—ultra creepy, with dead black eye buttons, tattered burlap wings, and miscellaneous pieces of junk for the legs and beak. (The scrap metal in particular was completely lost over time for this colour, and is really something they should bring back in the fold.) Awesome option for people who like creepier colours (it's me, I'm people who like creepier colours).

Relic: Relic pets sometimes get way too overblown, but this one is really nicely balanced—just plain, nicely shaded stone with lots of little cracks. There's some moss, but it's kept to the minimum and is carefully placed in a surprisingly realistic way. The tail feathers are the real standout however; instead of making improbable thin stone ones, they're instead a few budding roses. Love it.

BONUS: The only reason the mutant Lenny is a bonus is because... it's not really that mutant-y? Like, that's just straight-up a vulture (reinterpretated, much like the faerie Lenny, which I always like). Even by Lenny standards, the only real differences are clawed wings, shorted legs, different tail feathers, and a single backwards-facing head plume instead of two.

However, technicalities aside, this is a gorgeous design. I really like the layered look of the wings, and I appreciate that it's not 1:1 a real vulture, lacking any pink or black in the design and having clawed wings. Artwork's the same as it was pre-customization, so it unsurprisingly also looks great.

I got a stomach bug and that apparently means I'm ploughing throuh the last of these. This is the second to last EP; I was kind of dreading doing rockabilly, but I think that my modified version of JA's textures with the wavy afterglow textures looks a lot nicer than I had expected, even if it still isn't my favourite.

Bonus Versions!

I made second versions of a couple of these which incorporate @deedee-sims pinned extras of barrett and highponytail. These versions include the pinned Melodie9 age conversions all in one file, and the highponytail one replaces the blond band with a bangless version. The one thing I didn't include are the hiders, as I personally didn't feel as if I needed them, but if you want them you can go to DeeDee's versions and find the hiders in the zips, as they're unmerged. My versions are merged all into one file with the replacements, keeps things neat! However they do clash with DeeDee's files (minus hiders and extra colours) as I only replaced the textures and merged them, so you can't have both. And they include my texture defaults so there's just no point in having both or you'l have two versions of each texture file, even if it won't break anything, aha.

BEEG undead dragon! (I gotta stop painting dragons, I only have so much shelf space 😭)

The model is Undead Dragon by Clynche Art on MMF.

I ended up painting this one one and a half times since I started doing a black base and working up with reddish purples for the flesh. It looked ok, but a bit too cartoony for what I wanted.

So I started over with a dark red base, added brown, green and blue splotches, and then dry brushed black all over, which I think looks a lot more like rotting flesh! It was a lot of fun working on those colours though!

I just did a mix of an off-white, bright green and brown for the bony sections, followed up by a burnt umber ink to get that old bone look, and to help blend between flesh and bone.

The horns, teeth and claws I struggled with a bit, before deciding to do dark silver+dirty down rust+drybrushed dark silver. I really like the effect of rusting horns for an undead dragon, but I do worry that it is a tad lacking in contrast, with all the other dark reds and blacks going on here. I considered redoing it with a tarnished bronze look, but tbh after having already had this on my desk for over a month, I was ready to just get it out of the way so I could move on to other minis.

I'm also still messing around with camera settings, trying to get nicer pictures, but it's a bit of a process since I don't super know what I'm doing. Getting everything I want in focus, especially on a mini this big, is hard and I didn't really manage it in the end. It's fun to play around though, even if there's a lot of "is it better with setting A or setting B? hmmmmmm" repetition.

OK SO as for the names there was a forum online that i specifically referenced with a guide to naming mlp ocs and it was hella funny, the gist was this:

i mostly ignored that first rule just bc a few of these ocs would not have a super """"girly"""" name so most of them are puns or figures of speech!!!!! theyre all based off of their ultimate talents or their personalities, which means what i do is i think of an adjective or noun that could be associated with them (for example, free runner -> light on her feet -> light) and then either think of a pun or go to google and type in "phrases with [word] in it" and choose one that makes sense (light + speedy = lightspeed)!! some of them were straight up references WITHOUT me mashing two words together ("turing" is from alan turing father of modern computer science, "chatterbait" is a specific type of lure for fishing while also being a reference on how sae tends to go on tangents lmao).

rie's was a bit of a struggle at first just because i was going back and forth between MULTIPLE names, like i was kinda set on her having a one word name like rarity but i needed it to be more specific to her?? she was royal charm for a bit, then royal, then PEARL (bc i looked at her actual outfit), and THEN the pearl jam pun struck me like the hand of god

I STRUGGLED THE MOST WITH ERINS NAME LMFAOOO!!!! which is why that name was not even my idea it was @makowo 's fhdjhgfkdgjkd. i was so ready just to call her pippy because:

BUT thankfully i got a much better name. also the idea of her cutie mark basically condemning her to a life of childrens entertainment is both horrifying and kinda funny. girl you are NOT getting a break even in the my little pony universe.

COLOURS WERE VERY FUN!!! just for the sake of them Being Recognizable as My Ocs i kept their hair colour the same lmfao, if i were to go back id probably get a little more funky (pearl gem could absolutely use some purple highlights). for their haircoat i typically would use a primary colour on their outfit and would sometimes adjust!!! for example, i knew i wanted naomi's haircoat to be associated with red as that is the main colour i typically associate with her, so the coat was the colour from her jacket. because her hair was already very dark, having the coat colour also be dark wasnt as clashing so i didnt need to adjust a lot!! i DID however adjust erins to be a bit lighter just because it looked nicer than having an extremely saturated yellow lol. hooves were usually decided by me choosing a colour on them (very typically hair colour) and either adjusting it to be darker or leaving it white in two cases!! OTHER COLOURS were decided based on how important the colour is to the character's outfit. like filly shapes/erin HAD to be yellow in my eyes just because she is soooooo bright + it sits nicely with the red hair, but because she is a very colourful character i added a whole lot of ribbons with the other colours of her costume :)) naomi got a few spots on her just because of her moles, sae got her birthmark, and a few other characters got their stomachs coloured in just because i thought it looked cool lmfaooooo

hardest to colour hmmmmmmmmmmmmm for RIE i initially had her coat as light purple, as she is a very purple character to me lmfao, but thought it would both compliment the hair colour and also accent the purple more if she was primarily white (the colour of her undershirt, ALSO i was looking up white show horses as reference for her specifically lol). so i went back and forth for a bit....... chatterbait also tbh. originally she was a lighter green colour for her jacket but then i was like nahhh the green on her overalls is better and went back. other than that they were pretty straight forward!!!! mouse trap and turing were the most obvious to me i feel like i had colouring in mind for those two from the second i placed my pen on my tablet

thanks for asking! sometimes i forget i exist here as a person cuz i just log on to queue random stuff without making posts 💀

it's pretty rare for me to watch an anime without ever reading the manga, and there've been stellar adaptations recently. ONK, kisekoi, BTR, frieren, CSM just to name a few. in a landscape where we're used to being disappointed as readers who have a frame of reference before watching a show, i had very, very high hopes for the dunmeshi adaptations that weren't quite fulfilled.

i'll dump everything under a cut since i actually have a lot to say, sorry if you were expecting it to be brief 😎

the lines in the artistic style are good, nicely translating the characters into animated format. really no notes there. definitely a nicer comparison for char designs between manga and anime vs. tonsuki and tensura who both have incredible manga styles that the anime stumble over (though in the latter's case, i don't think they were aiming for it sadly)

the shading has been fine, but weakened by the colour choices. some of the dungeon scenes (e.g., living armour stuff) are lit with a medium blue which helps to sell the idea of the scene being in a place not lit by fire (and contrasts it with the making camp & cooking scenes), but the lack of dark shading flattens some of these very well-drawn images.

the earlier chapters don't have the same level of detail as newer ones, but the art style is still fantastic - it's expressive with high contrast and shows action and impact perfectly well. manga will often times have a naturally easier way with contrast due to it being in black & white, but i don't think that means anime should just give up on contrast in favour of playing ineffectively with colour.

here's a night shot of fern from frieren. the choices made here allow for the shading to stand out from the flats and give her more definition overall while still being relatively simple (just flats + shading)

when dunmeshi has more "normal" lighting conditions, it does a lot better. similar to fern up there, there's about the same amount of difference between the flats and shadows, so i really wish they did a better job on the dungeon scenes since they're going to have to deal with non-torchlit scenes plenty. i won't argue that the living armor scene certainly has some kind of a sickly, alien mood to it, but tl;dr i think it should've had darker shading if not also being less green. this largely applies to every other blue-green lit scene they've done.

looking at kui's coloured drawings in the ed gives me an idea of what could've been and it makes me sad to lose out on colour choices more similar to that (even if they obviously can't have her level of detail on top of it)

some of the backgrounds haven't been too interesting but some have been good, overall it's probably fine. plus you can only draw and detail repeating bricks so many times before the viewer gets bored of looking at them anyway, i guess.

the animation is really fun and expressive. it's trigger, so they don't keep scenes stiffly on-model when they want characters moving around. this is good because it helps to sell both action and comedy moments!

the music overall i haven't really cared for? the BGM has not been particularly moving, interesting, or memorable - mostly generic. and i've seen too many fantasy shows for my own good, so i might be harder to impress (but i even remember tenken had a good BGM song or two to make a fight dramatic and that show was barely above average at best)

i'm biased not being particularly into bump, so i would've selected a different artist for the OP (i actually did like the bump OP from SxF though, come to think of it). before anyone makes a wisecrack based on what i've watched lately, no it doesn't have to be yoasobi.

i maybe feel the ED song would've been better for the OP, i don't like the largely peaceful bit of the OP with very still visuals. the OP is where you reel people in! it should be an eye-catching hook, representative of what to expect with some extra sauce on top.

the ED is great, total bop. it's a fine time for slower visuals as an enjoyable wind-down from the episode, so less or no animation is no big deal. plus kui's art is absolutely gorgeous! it all perfectly fits that "end of work" fun and lighthearted mood they were going for.

i largely enjoy the voice acting. i would've personally gone for a less "old man" voice on senshi because he's really not that old for a dwarf, but they obviously wanted to make it clear he was the older, wiser, knowledgeable character.

this might be my own personally most blasphemous opinion, but i would've picked a different VA for falin. i want to make it clear i absolutely adore saori hayami - she's incredible and one of my faves. with that said, her voice fits the character, so maybe it's just because i've heard her too often which is not her fault by any means! i love the voices for laios, marcille, and chil.

it seems netflix's subs go off of the official EN TL of the manga, which makes sense, but i've talked about how i don't like it more than ehscans' TL (which is one of the single best TLs i've read for a series, official or otherwise) and that holds true for the anime ("mad sorcerer" is cooler AND less clunky than "lunatic magician"). i prefer less localisation stuff and/or quirkiness in my subs and more direct translation for both manga and anime.

as for the changes/additions they've made to the show, some of them have been alright and some i didn't care for. they really want to sell marcille as the funny joke character which is why they had her being chased by the basilisk instead of having doni & fionil like it was in the manga which was better for the pacing and had good impact vs a funny clip of marcille running back and forth.

i don't dislike when adaptations add or change stuff, but placing them cleanly is important. dunmeshi is already really funny! i don't think it needs help being funnier by reaching for the cheap laugh. when laios sees two people running for their lives from a basilisk and he just goes "wow that's a bad way to run from that monster", it's already lowkey hilarious - all the more so followed by marcille telling mr. monster-know-it-all to go rescue them if he knows what's up and him rescuing them by making himself big and chicken squawking real loud (which embarrasses marcille and chil, but c'mon guys, at least his idea worked!). i feel like the comedy in laios' funny hero moment is undercut by forcing the marcille butt of the joke moment in the anime.

dunmeshi is already incredibly good at just about everything it does. i feel if an adaptation wants to add or change something, it's often better amplifying a strength or shoring up a weakness in the source material. BTR adds a lot to the source (not hard considering the source is a 4koma) and makes already funny things even funnier. the "we should all get social media" scene is elevated to iconic status with the visual of bocchi glitching out + the VA's inhuman screech. i can't say where i'd really want to change or add stuff to dunmeshi, since it really feels so good and whole, but i'm sure there's room in the process of translating manga panels to animated scenes, and i think the direction overall could've been better (comparing most shows to BTR isn't fair i know because BTR is directed & adapted so well it's hydrogen bomb vs. coughing baby territory)

i've mostly said negative stuff, but i don't want it to sound like i hate or even really dislike the adaptation. i think when it comes to a series you really love, you want to see the best adaptation possible within reason, and the disappointment of stuff not being quite what you were hoping for is amplified by so many other recent adaptations being so good.

dunmeshi does not have a bad anime by any means, but a lot of that is thanks to the source material's quality. if they do another season, i hope they have more time/budget/whatever because i think a lot of the parts it does have are good parts! but in this case, i wasn't hoping for good; i was hoping for great.

trigger makes great shows with wacky storylines (in some ways, the same one wacky storyline, but that's a different discussion) and dunmeshi, being directed by someone who's worked on a bunch of trigger stuff (largely sci-fi leaning), maybe needed some more direction from people who've worked on fantasy stuff? i can't say for sure what would've been enough to take the show over the top, but though i generally don't hope for much from adaptations, i really did have higher hopes for this one than it ended up achieving.

overall it seems i'll end up scoring the show a 7 or 7.5 when i finish the season, though there's certainly still room to wow us all. whatever you feel about the adaptation, whether you liked it or not, whether or not you've read the manga, feel free to comment your thoughts below or in my inbox. let's keep it free of manga spoils for anime-only watchers, though!

One Piece Reread Chapter 2: They Call Him "Straw Hat Luffy"

We open on a delightfully pink Miss Love Duck - for all the lovely details it provides, the colour manga regrettably suffers from the very Oda art-typical problem of everyone having the same (pale) skin tone.

On the topic of adaptations, once again, each of them has moved the action from the island Alvida uses as her base to aboard the Miss Love Duck itself, at sea - both Toei's anime and Netflix's show (which I'm beginning to suspect may be more of an adaptation of the anime, rather than the manga) insert another ship being pillaged by Alvida's crew. Perhaps to make things more piratey? I'm not sure. It seems like a fairly innocuous change on paper, but put a pin in this - I'll be coming back around to it later.

This chapter, notably, also gives us Koby, and foreshadows Zoro's introduction via the pirates speaking fearfully of how they hear the Marines have him locked up (word must travel fast, since we know Zoro only spent nine days in the yard).

For now, though, we have Koby, who arrives to the narrative in an already-interesting predicament. He's kind, clearly terrified of Alvida, and quite resigned to his fate - he immediately offers up the boat he's spent two years fashioning for Luffy's escape, having resigned himself to spending the rest of her life under her thumb. Two years is the length of time he's spent as a captive of the pirates, meaning he began plans for an escape immediately after his capture. The boat is in a finished state, clearly, if he's offering it to Luffy, which means that, for an unknown length of time, Koby had a perfectly serviceable way out that he just... didn't take. Perhaps he continued to fine-tune it, to rework it, anything to have an excuse not to take that final step.

Luffy even points this out, asking quite literally "Why don't you just escape?" His ensuing estimation of Koby's character is, as he says, quite blunt, but there's quite a bit of truth to it. If there wasn't, Koby could have called him cruel instead of frank. The way that Luffy speaks to him here, though more good-natured, mirrors the things that Alvida says to him. The tone differs, as does the intent (Luffy is simply making an observation, he has no desire to own Koby), but the similarity of the words, coupled with Koby's lack of disagreement and what we can infer about him based upon this exchange, paints quite an unfortunate picture. Koby, at least on some level, has stayed where he is because there's a part of him that agrees with how Alvida sees him. He has no self-esteem, no belief in his own ability or worth, and lingers in a terrible situation for no other reason than the fact that it's familiar.

This is why I think the adaptations make a mistake by moving the action from Alvida's island base to the Miss Love Duck. This telling exchange is centred around Koby's makeshift boat, his escape route that he's just been sitting on, and the fact is that he could only hide such a thing on an island. By removing the action to a setting where he wouldn't be able to hide an entire boat (and in Netflix's case, by reworking Luffy's friendly, but rather scathing estimation into a nicer pep talk), there's a lot of characterization that gets lost. (On a more minor note, being on a ship requires Luffy and Koby to lower their voices to escape notice, which detracts from the emotion of the following sequence.)

Koby isn't the first one to hear from Luffy that he's going to be the king of the pirates - he first declared it in Chapter 1, as the Red-Hair Pirates were packing up to leave (it specifically, in fact, immediately preceded Shanks handing over his hat). What differs here is Koby's reaction - his immediate response, "You'd have to make the whole world kneel to you!", speaks to a point of view that hinges on the idea of subjugator and subjugated, something which could reflect his last two years under Alvida, or which could, potentially, have a deeper, older root.

Oda's ability to play characters off one another in very telling ways continues in this exchange - where Chapter 1 shows us Shanks, someone Luffy is more alike than not, Chapter 2 establishes Koby as a kind of anti-Luffy in many ways. Not in the sense that Koby is necessarily antagonistic (though on the very next page, he does acknowledge that his dream of becoming a Marine would make Luffy and himself enemies), but in a way where it's very clear that Koby has a very hierarchical view of the world. He talks about the likeliness of making the world kneel to a single person, weighs things in odds, tries to take his feelings out of things, all to avoid the fact that he is motivated by fear.

Luffy turns all of this upside down when he states, simply, "I'm not afraid to die." He's not unaware of the risks, but to him, not trying would be of greater personal cost than playing it safe. For the first time, it seems like Koby seems to realise that living out the rest of his life safely will mean living the rest of his life wondering about what might have been - he twigs, in that moment, to this facet of Luffy's life philosophy, which shuns regrets above all (remember that).

The first panel on this page shows a rare moment of uncertainty from Luffy, as he states his belief that he'll succeed (hat held to his chest), before he wonders, briefly, if he's deluding himself. It's a fascinatingly rare and telling moment of introspection - this is a very young Luffy, just starting out, with no crew yet to stand behind him, having a moment of doubt. Still, he immediately proves his statement from just a few moments earlier - he puts the hat back on. If he dies trying, at least he tried.

In the same moment, Koby is rapidly seeing the appeal of Luffy's "no regrets" lifestyle, and shares his own dream - to join the Marines and fight "the bad guys". Luffy's surprise is a bit palpable here, and I think this speaks, again, to the difference in their outlooks. Luffy is, as we well know, someone who values freedom in all respects. One of the main ways this shows itself is his refusal to let anyone else define, control, or intentionally influence him, even if they want to do so out of a desire to be helpful. Koby, meanwhile, is clearly looking for an element of belonging - his offhand mention of "the bad guys" makes it clear that he wants to be one of "the good guys", he wants to be one of these helpful, protective types that Luffy finds annoying.

Not that he thinks there isn't any use to them - he doesn't shoot down Koby's dream. I think there are probably elements of differing experience at play here, as well; Luffy has hung around pirates, bandits, and other ne'er-do-wells, and has already attained a pretty nuanced view of what constitutes good vs evil that Koby (who has spent two years as the prisoner of the fairly stereotypical pirate) has clearly not had. It speaks well to Luffy's emotional intelligence (and his tendency to let people steer their own course and figure shit out on their own) that he seems to recognize this.

Despite all this bravado in their moment alone, Koby is still unable to defy Alvida until Luffy does so first. Koby's defining characteristic early on, aside from his own fear, perhaps, is his awareness of his own weakness. His desire to join the Marines is borne not simply out of a sense of justice, but of a desire to be part of something that will make him stronger.

In this sense, he and Luffy aren't that different. Luffy, too, is looking for a group to make him stronger, but he has both a desire to choose his companions, as well as faith in himself to make the right choice - he's not locked to the comforting idea of an institution the way that Koby is. Their differing world views are on display once more as Luffy throws the idea of the demon pirate hunter being a "good guy", and Koby dismissing the idea outright.

Done and dusted, I really did try to see if I could include SOME element of her items and such, but no luck... it cluttered the drawing far too much and there were too many conflicting themes. I tried my best to just elevate a lot of the simpler elements of Hans, and used one of her main abilities as a base for the concept.

Also included the fact her arms look kind of like spindly nerves as that’s how they seemed to be imagined by a lot of the community in canon! I think I made her look really nice and I’m still happy with it.

Fennec

Fairly happy with how he turned out! I was trying to vary my angles since I have a habit of drawing characters facing right so I wanted to make sure to introduce some variety to the portraits. Plus, it’ll look even nicer by the end when they’re all lined up next to each other. 

He definitely seems a lot more jungle-y than he would let on but... A lot of his abilities seemed that way so I couldn’t help it. Not like it’s a bad thing, green + blue is a pretty good colour combo

I was definitely happy with him for a first attempt at this project, especially with how I shaded the mask, but I’m almost definitely going to go back to redo him. In hindsight there isn’t enough Anton swagger going on (minus the finger guns) and I think some element of his rude/skittish/gamble-orientated nature has to be shown off somehow.

Possibly my strongest work concept wise so far, or it’s tied with Kleiver. I’m really proud of myself for composing it in a way that shows off the Tao symbol they have in one of their attacks, and also demonstrate their syringe attack. It all looks pretty fluid as well. 

Only nitpick I’d have with this one is that it’s much more rough and simple(?) compared to my other works. Though, to be fair, this piece was the shortest to draw out of everything so far (about 2 hours or so)

I think I stuffed in as much lore as I could in the drawing (minus the fire, but I feel it would’ve oversaturated it.) My progress on lighting and shadows seems to be improving a good amount!! Excited to translate this skill into future drawings

Finally managed to unlock him, and despite my initial worry that I wouldn’t be able to do something that creative, I managed it! I’m starting to get more comfortable with simple concepts done with more artistic flair if I can’t figure out a way to include their lore or attacks too much within the drawing itself. I also think this drawing shows off a bit more of my Disco Elysium style roots :) very proud of it!

Even with the limited colour palette, I’m super super super happy with this one. This piece could’ve been kind of boring with just Kleiver shushing but my inspiration basically screamed out of nowhere that I could have bloodied music trails emanating from the stain on his hammer... Head. It doesn’t really show off his attacks but it shows off his brutality and lore enough that I’m absolutely satisfied with how he turned out. I nailed that hand pretty well too.

Really really happy with her, I think the shading and colours came out excellent. Managed to fit some good stuff about her concept and item wise as well :) I think my only gripe might be that it’s a little less coherent than it could’ve been, with some of the parts of the drawing being quite dark.

However, I’m still really happy with it!!

SmokeStacks

Did this because some guy on reddit asked for it really nicely, even though SmokeStacks wasn’t even on my radar at the time... But they seemed to like it! I did too. I was initially trying to position SmokeStacks like every other portrait up close, but I realized I really wanted to show off the smoke more than the stacks part so I went ham on making the smoke look spooky and ominous.

He’s meant to be sitting on a pile of trash which is kinda hard to tell but I’m pretty happy with this one too.

Hi D! Nice ask week started as nice ask day about a month ago, but because of timezones and people just needing time to get to asks it went for about 3 days 😅 @celeritas2997 kicked off nice ask week this week just for fun! It’s not limited to LS fandom because so many of us are in overlapping fandoms but it’s fun!!

But omg, this ask! I am absolutely a skincare girlie who dabbles in being a makeup girlie (I used to wear a lot more makeup but I don’t wear as much anymore).

I buy a lot of my products at Mecca - my love of a beauty loop box keeps me loyal, plus there’s one very close to my office so it’s too easy to pop down on my lunch break! Having said that, I buy things from all over the place, it depends who stocks the brand, who’s got good freebies and how soon I need something!

Okay, five products I can’t live without, in no particular order:

- Sunday Riley Good Genes - it’s exy but does wonders for my skin

- Mecca Cosmetica To Save Face 50+ SPF/Ultra Violette Clean Screen 50+SPF - SO SO important to wear spf every day! I’ve been using the Mecca sunscreen for years and even have my partner using it daily because it’s just so good. But @welcometololaland recently put me onto the Ultra Violette (I’d been meaning to try it for ages and she sent me a sample) and I love it a lot. I think it feels nicer on my skin than the Mecca one does going on, but I haven’t had the chance to really test it out in the sun all day

- MCo Xtend lash mascara - tubing mascara is life changing, particularly in the humidity where I live and also because I cry easily. I buy this one at Woolies and stock up when it’s on sale (frequently). Have been using it for years because it’s just that good - holds a curl, doesn’t smudge, washes off easily with warm water

- concealer - I’m not wedded to any particular product, I was using a Kosas one which was excellent, am currently using an MCo one that I picked up to try because it was half price at Woolies 😅 and it’s surprisingly good! It’s not always easy to get a match for my skin tone in supermarket/pharmacy brands so I was pleasantly surprised!

- my last product would either be a Vit C serum (LOVE Sunday Riley CEO which feels so nice and smells good but more importantly is effective but Mecca put the price up so I’m currently using the Paula’s Choice Vit C booster and it’s good!) or my beloved MAC Girl About Town lipstick which might be the only colour I’ve worn consistently for 15ish years. It’s the perfect hot pink! I don’t wear it every day but it’s my go to lip colour when I go out.

What are your must haves? I’m always happy to chat skincare!!

Today's mood was 'procrastinate on the mortuary temple by doing the oasis room' so. :D It was a bit tricky to work the entrance in around the pillar but I think I managed it. It's kinda hidden away, like you can't easily see it. Which is why I added all the cherry leaves so it stood out a lil more. :D Also, particles. I wanted the pretty particles. <3

I wanted to expand on the theme from the flower corridor on the other side of the pyramid. I didn't want to make it look too stylistically different from the rest of the pyramid, so I borrowed the same pillar design from there but used it on the edges of the room instead of down the middle. It's been adapted a little bit to fit but it's essentially the same design.

The room has a lot - and I mean A LOT - of vertical space while also being quite narrow, so I decided to make these little walkways around the edge of the room to still make it feel Big and Grand even though it's not that big. I got two floors of this and there was STILL ROOM above that. A LOT of room.

This is the rest of the room that leads to a balcony outside like the front has. It's simple, and maybe I could add more on the carpeted area, but I'm not sure I will. Also I think the biome blending really gives the trees a much nicer look than if they were all the same colour.

This is what I built (VERY CAREFULLY D:) around the door Cub put in, just to make it feel like it fit in a bit more. I wanted to keep with the colour palette, to keep it ornate, but not decorated like the front. No colour, just shapes and textures. And I think it looks much better. I'll probably put in something similar on the balcony as there is on the front, but that's for later. And it might change a bit still but that's the basic design.

What I want to do is take this idea of sand having piled up around the door and extend that around the entrance here, and perhaps around the base of the pyramid. Maybe there's some strong winds coming in from the mesa behind it that's pushed all the sand up against the walls. That kind of thing. I also want to tidy up the terracotta on the side to the left of this one that's all just starkly cut out, and make that look more natural.

This is the space I had above once I was done with the pillars and flowers and such. I haven't quite decided what to do with it, but I might do some more oasis-like gardens and pools. Make it like a healing space maybe. I had thought about making little ponds or hills of dirt, little spots of more organic landscaping up here as opposed to the formality below. But we'll see. It definitely needs a pool or pond or some kind of water thing tho.

I'm thinking this might be a small chapel or shrine area, or perhaps some kind of storage idk yet. It's really too small to do anything useful with but I don't want to leave it empty. So we'll see what I come up with when I tackle this floor.

Also finally I, uh, got myself a Pharaoh head. >_> bc it didn't feel right to just have old man Cub up there. It needed to be the Pharaoh. And, Cub, dammit, didn't have any Pharaoh heads in his storage, just Old Man Cub heads. XD So I had to do it myself.

honestly my java skin history is A Mess bc I don't have a default skin at all like I do when I play Bedrock so it's just a whole pile of random skins, Hermit skins, and whatever else takes my fancy lol. XD I think my player character on java must be some sort of void eldritch creature the way they have no known form and take on other ppl's instead.

Today we're taking a look at the costume of an OLD period film, where my interest collide: 1920s and the 18th century.

Der Rosenkavalier (1926) is based on the opera of the same name by Richard Strauss, and the music from that is what accompanies this not so silent film. Since the libretto is changed a lot from the one of the opera, the movie also includes music from Strauss' Couperin suite. It was premiered in 10th January of 1926 at the Dresden Semperoper, and Strauss himself conducted the orchestra! Isn't that super cool? You can watch it on YouTube!

The costume design for this film was by Alfred Roller, Hans Rouc, and Stefan Wessely (the three of them usually worked in Art Direction), and Ludwig Rudlof was the wig maker.

I had never thought about this film until I was reading a magazine (a new one, from 1923 LOL), and there was a little column about Jaque Catelain (who plays Octavian in this film) and it had a photo from this film. And OF COURSE that sent me to a rabbit hole. I mean, look at him (and Elly Felicie Berger):

And, now something @vinceaddams always tell us all to look at: LOOK AT THE COAT SHOULDERS!!!!!! That's so good! AND FROM 1926.

Now, I love LOVE LOVE the costumes of this film. Let's take a look!

First of all, we have not one, but TWO robes de cour with the right kind of lace sleeves! One has a more historically accurate neckline, and the general silhouette of the torso. It was worn by Huguette Duflos as the Countess Maria Theresia von Werdenberg (the Marschallin):

And the other has a more square neckline (like in a middle way between a court mantua and a robe de cour), and the torso is less accurate (she doesn't seem to be wearing the right stays, nor the dress having the proper boning), but the petticoat is SPECTACULAR (worn by Elly Felicie Berger, as Sophie):

This very flammable looking for the Marschallin:

And this one is also a robe de cour (kind of?), but with a petticoat and overskirt that feels more like a robe à la française. I mean, it clearly closes on the back, so I like to think of this dress as a robe de cour.

We also see Carmen Cartellieri wearing... this... dress and a coat/robe over it. This might be the dress that looks more like a halloween costume of the whole film, but honestly, I've seen way worse lately...

Now, let's just enjoy all of the menswear. They have some funny and odd cuff choices, but the general look is WAY better than many MANY modern 18th century set films and series. But the coats, the wigs, the cravats... it is all so pretty!

LOOK AT THE VOLUME OF THIS FROCK COAT!!! Also, I LOVE that they kept the dark coloured hair of Jaque Catelain as Octavian in some parts:

And in other parts where he's supposed to be dressed nicer, he wears a white wig. This is also my favourite suit of the film, that looks taken straight from a Barbier illustration:

Now let's look at Paul Hartman as the Marschall. The silhouette that he wears is slimmer and fitted closer to the body than the other characters, being it from later in the century.

He wears a court outfit, that has too short breeches and too straight front:

His other main look is this suit with decorative lines, that along the riding boots, gives him the appearance of strict military dude. The front is nicely curved, and even the shoulders have a structured feel that matches the character. That's good costume design, my friends.

Over this outfit, he wears a carrick (or garrick) coat and a tricorn hat:

We also have Michael Bohen (as Ochs von Lerchenau) and Karl Forest (as Herr von Faninal). Their looks are kind of mid 18th century (?) and earlier 18th century kind of mixed together. They have different lengths of waistcoats and one of their coats (the one on Karl Forest) looks earlier to me. But in this comedy of errors, both of them are supposed to be kind of silly, so I accept that they look kind of odd. Still, better than many series I've seen lately.

Author's Note: While I am writing the second part of my Eddie Munson Headcanons (part 1 here), I had this idea for how an interaction with Eddie would go, so wanted to share it as a short fic in the meantime :) I've tried to be mindful of keeping things gender neutral, please enjoy and let me know if you have any other Eddie Munson thoughts :) 💕

The Sincerest Form of Flattery

"I can't be spotted just loitering in the woods around a high-school I've already graduated from, everyone would think I'm a complete loser! And you know this party has to be one of my best if Robin's finally going to make a move on her band-mate! So just pick up enough for a crowd, and I swear it will almost make up for all the places I have to drive you..." Steve ranted frantically, hinting that maybe he wasn't as happy with his role as your designated chauffeur as you were. You sighed, wanting to seem reluctant, when in fact having a good excuse to talk to tall, dark and handsome Eddie Munson had just made your afternoon a whole lot more interesting.

"Fine, I'll get your stuff, just don't forget you have to pick me up after practice! Before you start partying!" You conceded, snatching the money from his hand and opening the car door,

"Thank you! You're the best! And feel free to invite as much of the cheer team as you want," He added, his suave tone making you cringe as you slammed the door behind you,

"Gross, Steve." You knew he was probably one of the nicer boys in town for you to set up with your friends, but that didn't make hearing that flirty tone from a family member any less uncomfortable.

You knew from the boys on the football team where Eddie Munson hung out when he sold his plant-based party favours, so that lunch you found yourself stomping through the woods behind the school, wishing your cheer uniform offered a little more protection from the leaves and branches covering the earth. You hadn't had a lot of reasons to talk to Eddie in the past, even though you were now both set to be in the same graduating class, but there was something about him that you always thought of fondly. Maybe it was because every time you'd picked Dustin up after Hellfire when Steve busy, he would come out absolutely buzzing about how incredible Eddie was at building the world around them in Dungeons and Dragons. Maybe it was his unabashed passion as he stomped through the cafeteria, accepting that people were going to stare anyway so he might as well give them something to stare at. Maybe it was just the fact that you liked the collection of tattoos he had picked up over his senior years. Whatever it was, you had the familiar feeling of a flurry of butterflies in your stomach as you approached the all-but-abandoned picnic table.

Eddie knew all his usual customers; from resentful jocks to stressed-out smart kids, but you'd never approached his table before. And Eddie definitely would've remembered if the one person in his classes who actually smiled when he sat next to them had come out of their way to see him before. He stared at you a lot longer than he usually would before striking up conversation, convinced wishful thinking had his eyes deceiving him,

"(Y/n) (Y/l/n), gracing my table! To what do I owe the honour?" He jumped up from his seat miming a little curtsy as you approached, earning a sincere smile from you that had colour flushing across his cheeks.

"Eddie Munson, I would love to tell you a fun and interesting tale that led to me standing in front of you in the woods, but I'm afraid I'm just here to browse your wares, same as everyone else." You settled onto the bench across from him, watching his eyes follow you closely, considering his next words carefully.

"Now that surprises me about as much as any story you could tell me (y/n). I never though someone like you would be buying shit from someone like me." He replied with a cocky smile, hiding his genuine interest in what you thought about someone like him. You grinned back, relaxed in his company, happy at the chance to speak to him alone, not under the usual prying eyes of the rest of the school.

"And what exactly is someone like me like?" You countered playfully, watching his brow furrow as he thought through his answer, clearly deliberating on how honest to be with you. After a moments pause he jumped up from his seat, standing with his hands on his hips, like the starting position of all your cheer routines. He cleared this throat dramatically, feeling emboldened by the warm giggle he earned from you,

"I'm (y/n) (y/l/n) and I don't have time for drugs between all my friends and cheerleading, and my perfect boyfriend Steve Harrington." His arms flailed imaginary pompoms as he spoke rhythmically, flicking his hair and his hips in time to his words. "Also I'm way too smart for that, in fact easily one of the smartest people in school, but no one notices because I look like this." He flicked his hair dramatically, before standing on one leg for his finale, "The only thing brighter than me and my future, is my smile." His hands came to frame his face, eyelashes fluttering, and you burst into laughter at his performance. Other than being yet another guy at school incorrectly assuming you and Steve were together much to your disgust, his words came from a real place of appreciation, and the way he moved his hips as an imaginary cheerleader wasn't unpleasant to watch either. Feeling flattered, you applauded Eddie as he bowed, before delivering your critiques,

"Not bad Eddie, a little right, a little wrong, but overall I'd give you a B- for your impression skills." He pouted at your review, before spreading his arms out wide in challenge,

"If you think that's only worth a B- minus, I'd like to see you do better?" He posed, trying to fight the nervous urge to ask what he got wrong, wanting to know so much more about you. He watched as you stood up quietly from your seat, terrified he had crossed a line, about to lose the first real opportunity he'd had to be the focus of your attention, after spending the last school year surviving off glances across classrooms.

In one athletic jump you mounted the table, miming a hair flip and stomping your feet,

"I'm Eddie Munson, and my favourite hobby is a game of skill, strategy and teamwork - but if your favourite game of skill, strategy and teamwork is popular or sport, I hate it!" You growled dramatically, miming devil horns and squatting down to eye-level with a perplexed but captivated Eddie. "I'm actually way too smart from this school, and way too cool for Hawkins, and way too pretty for any of the girls and boys here." You continued, making a dramatic dismount from the table as you paused for effect. "But I pretend I don't know any of those things, because then it's even harder not to like me and my beautiful brown eyes." You mimed twirling a piece of hair in front of your face shyly, tilting your chin down to blink up at Eddie with your best doe eyes. Pleased with your performance you sat on the bench next to him, one leg either side of the plank to match his shell-shocked stature. You watched his eyes scan your face, his mouth slightly agape as he ran through your words again. Eddie spent so much time expecting to hear the worst from people, that hearing someone he actually liked say he was smart and cool and attractive was a situation he was not prepared for in the slightest. But more than just how flattered he was, he felt seen. Like you didn't just look at him once and think he was nothing more than a freak, someone to avoid. You thought about him, and the positive things about him, and why he acts the way he does, and you got it. You, someone kind and beautiful and smart, got him.

After a long silence passed you pulled out the money Steve had given you that morning and passed it to Eddie, hoping to snap him out of his trace. He almost flinched remembering why you had come to see him, pulling out the weed and throwing in way more than he would for any other customer. Scrambling to form any kind of sentence he finally blurted out,

"You must be having quite the campaign tonight." Embarrassed at this inability to find any non-D&D way to describe an event. You laughed as you tucked his stuff safely in your backpack,

"Harrington's having a party tonight, and I am helping, and going, because we're family. Not dating. I cannot stress that enough. And frankly I'm offended that more people don't realise this exceptional hair is genetic." If Eddie was struggling to find words before, he couldn't form a sentence looking at a dictionary now. You called him pretty, and you weren't dating Harrington. Ready to announce that this was the single best day of his life, he watched as you pulled a scrap of paper out of your bag and scribbled something on it before handing it to him,

"It's at this address, you should come Eddie. Maybe then I'll get accused of dating someone I'm not related to." You joked with a wink, before turning to make your way back through the trees, no longer cursing your cheer uniform given the view it was leaving him with, distracting from your the heat rising off your face. Scrambling to gain any sense of control Eddie called out behind you, "Do you really think I'm cool and pretty?" Trying to hide the wobble in his voice at the thought this could all be a cruel joke at his expense,

"Awesome and gorgeous Eddie." You shouted back, not turning around as you spoke, but raising your arm straight in the air, shooting him the rock and roll sign with your hand and earning a warm laugh as he tried to figure out what the hell he would wear to a party at Harrington's tonight.

Random Fluffy RFA + Saeran and V Headcanons

Yoosung Kim Fluffy Headcanons

He asks you to marry him in LOLOL, since there’s an expansion pack where you can set up a little house for extra storage. He gets really nervous and a bit sweaty about asking you to do it, he takes it oddly seriously and Zen almost passed out when he thought that you were actually engaged.

He tries to make you coffee every morning, especially if he’s trying a new style out. He thinks it’s really fun and he loves to greet you with it for breakfast. After a while, you come to associate the faint smell of coffee with Yoosung. 

At the start he starts sneakily using little bits of your shower gel because they smell so much nicer than the one his gamer student budget allows him to buy. Eventually, he’ll just cave and buy a bottle of the one that you use because it means he gets to be reminded of you all day and it’s a lot better for his skin anyway.

If you play with his hair when his head is in your lap, he’ll absolutely fall asleep. Yoosung is a little bit like a puppy in that way, it just makes him feel so happy and loved.

Zen/Hyun Ryu Fluffy Headcanons

Zen’s a big person for morning kisses, especially sleepy ones. He’s an early riser and definitely feels extra needy in the morning. He’s also always the big spoon, he likes to feel as though he’s protecting you even when he’s asleep.

Whenever you’re crying and cover your face so he can’t see, Zen’s the kinda person who would gently pull your arms away so he can get a look at you and figure out what’s wrong. He’ll kiss at your eyes and cheeks until you either stop crying, or let him get close enough to pull you in so you can cry on his chest. 

He loves doing skincare on you. If he thinks you’ve had a hard week, he’ll do your moisturiser, clay mask, face mask, eye mask- you name it, Zen wants to pamper you with it. He knows the importance of skincare and he thinks it’s a great way to relax and pamper you. 

Zen’s ‘Happy Place’ that he thinks of when he gets stressed is the two of you, beers in hand, spending an evening in the kitchen trying to cook food. He can hear the laughter, smell the ever-so-slightly burning food, taste the traces of beer on your lower lip. It just makes him so happy to think about and he can feel the desperation in his limbs to sprint home at full speed and make the daydream real.

Jaehee Kang Fluffy Headcanons

Saturday mornings are Jaehee’s favourite out of the whole week. She’s just worked 5 hellish days and Saturday is the day where she gets to have a bit of a lie-in. Usually, Jumin doesn’t ask her to come into the office on weekends and it’s usually just a case of working from home. Jaehee tries not to oversleep too much because she doesn’t want to throw off her schedule but sometimes she can’t help but pass out for 10 hours straight and undisturbed. 

She really enjoys bubble baths with you. When you first start doing it together, she’s a little shy at being seen undressed so intimately, but she still really enjoys the time alone with you. It’s a great way to unwind and she likes being so close to you.

Jaehee isn’t much of a cuddler when she’s asleep, she tends to just sleep flat on her back out of exhaustion. However, if you wake up for any reason during the night, you’ll frequently find her hand holding yours, whether she did it consciously or not. 

She collects really nice and cute stationary. She doesn’t really take them to work because she doesn’t want to be seen as unprofessional, but once she runs the coffee shop, she gets to write in her little hot-drinks-themed stationary and decorates the little cups with tiny stickers for the frequent customers and especially for whenever Zen comes to visit.

Jumin Han Fluffy Headcanons

Sunday mornings are Jumin’s favourites. He usually wakes up really early by routine, but on Sundays he spends a little bit longer curled up in bed with you and Elizabeth the Third, watching you both sleep. Jumin’s also usually the big spoon if he’s sleeping on his side, but when he sleeps on his back he typically still has one arm around your waist so you’re pulled next to him with your head on his chest.

He personally donates to many different cat shelters all over the country. He takes the money straight out of his own bank account and gives generous monthly donations to make sure that there’s enough funding to both feed the cats already there, and take in extra cats of the streets along with getting them adopted. Jumin’s staff actually has a company policy that if they adopt a cat from one of the shelters that Jumin supports, the vet and adoption fees are covered by him, he counts it as philanthropy.

Jumin has a bottle of wine in his cellar from the date you met, the date you first kissed, the date you got engaged and the date you got married. He hasn’t quite decided when he’ll share those wines with you, he just knows at the moment that he wants to keep them for a very special occasion. 

When he’s bored at work but he can’t call you because you’re busy, he pictures taking you to one of his vineyards on the weekend. He’ll picture your smile, you adjusting your hat and lightly squinting against the sun, you smiling at him over your glass of wine. Then he’ll tell Jaehee to clear his schedule for the weekend.

Saeyoung Choi Fluffy Headcanons

Your arms around him, holding him against you, is pretty much the only thing that can bring Seven out of an anxiety attack. If you’re not physically with him, he crawls under the duvet on his bed in hopes of still smelling you. He’ll call you and look through selfies with you that he has on his phone until he calms down. 

Seven frequently tries to make you food. He’s never had to cook for anyone before and he doesn’t really cook for himself, so it’s a lot of trial, error and frustrated takeaways. You try to eat whatever he makes though because you can really tell that he’s put his heart into it and you want to show him that you appreciate the effort he’s making.

He loves you feeling his biceps and gushing over how strong he is. He’s not even particularly ripped but you can tell he has strength in his limbs and seeing you give him any kind of physical approval makes him m e l t instantly.

He’s both the big and little spoon, depending what mood he is in. Sometimes he wants to hold you close and never let go, but sometimes Seven needs a little bit of support too and want to feel like he’s needed by you.

His absolute favourite dates are the arcades, the cinema, bowling and carnivals. He has far too much fun on the bumpercars and he absolutely has it out for you, you spend most of the time trying to escape him.

GE Saeran Choi  Fluffy Headcanons

GE Saeran always makes very over the top hot chocolates for the both of you. He has an arsenal of whipped cream, syrups, chocolate shavings and sprinkles. His hot chocolate is better than any you could buy in a store. He’ll make one for you whenever you ask, and then sometimes just to surprise you if it looks like you’re having a bad day.

GE Saeran ends up getting two cavities in his first few years of living freely. He does look after his teeth, but he let his sweet-tooth go little bit wild with all the new foods he got to try, it was all so new and fun to him, he just wanted to try everything! He took much better care of his teeth after that, but the trip to the dentist was quite a weird one since he’d never been before. 

Slight Angst: Saeran always serves your food first and makes sure there’s always extra helpings if you want it. He usually puts a little bit more on your plate than what you would usually eat. He never quite gets over the guilt of taking your food away at Magenta, so he spends the rest of his time making sure you have more than enough to eat now.

He likes to constantly buy you little gifts that he sees when he’s out and about that remind him of you. A little notebook in your favourite colour? A little forget-me-not necklace? A candle that smells like your perfume? He’d added them all to his cart. 

After lip kisses, Saeran loves giving cheek and hand kisses to you. For him, he really loves getting head kisses and he thinks it’s extra cute when you plant a little kiss onto the tip of his nose.

V/Jihyun Kim Fluffy Headcanons 

V usually wakes up first, unless he was working late in his studio. He wakes you up with a kiss to the forehead, a cup of coffee and soft words. After he’s put your drink on the table, he’ll climb back into bed with you and cuddle until you’re properly awake.

He actually enjoys baking with you. Well, he likes to help you bake and then he gets to do the decorating. You usually bring a cake to any RFA hangouts and it’s always very obvious when V’s helped you bake because it feels like he goes out of his way to put a piece of gallery-worthy art onto a cake with food colourings and icings. He thinks it makes it tastes better, and you have to agree. 

In recent years, V’s been considering trying a more plant-based diet. He thinks he’d like to try vegetarianism, but he’s frequently spend periods of time as a pescatarian, especially after he’s come back from travelling. It also means that he gets to practice cooking more too.

So I was re-reading growing pains as one does and I was wondering what do the elytra look like are they more like fabric or insect wings? Have a nice time of day :-). -time anon

I personally have individual headcanons for each person's elytra, as long as they don't have wings (in my canon!), I've been meaning to draw them for a while, but I probably won't get around to that for a while, so:

Scott: He has wings! They're based off a snowy owl's wings, but with gold accents that he put on himself

Jimmy: His almost look like moss, and have some weeds tangled around places, mostly holding it together, and there's also a few patches of slime on it, but that's merely by accident

Lizzie: Hers are translucent, and almost looking like flying fish's wings with how they shimmer in the light

Joel: His elytra looks like a cloak fashioned from peacock feathers, but only on the underneath. On the top it is just a plain black material, but when he flares it out to fly it reveals a massive amount of peacock feathers beneath.

Pixl: his looks like it has been fashioned from copper, blue wires connecting all the joints and, somehow, allowing him to fly. Nobody's really sure how it works, most of all Pixl, but it somehow does

Joey: He also has wings! Only him and Scott though, I base his wings off of Scarlet Macaw wings. Normally he'll hold them as though they're a cloak, meaning they'll trail through the dirt, but he thinks they look nicer like that for some reason.

Shubble: Her elytra looks like a mushroom, the underside of it being frilled like the underneath of a mushroom cap, the top covered in white spots. I also like to think that it would release spores when hit, not toxic ones, just those designed to stun

Katherine: Her wings are white and translucent, almost like bee's wings, and in a similar fashion they don't look large enough to lift her. She manages somehow anyways

Pearl: Her elytra looks like a bunch of wheat tied together, and she'll occasionally braid sunflowers into it, because she likes the colour it adds to them.

fWhip: His elytra are fashioned after dragon's wings, but black and red. They're made of a bunch of redstone that even experts struggle to understand because of how cobbled together it really is.

Gem: Her elytra is made of amethyst crystals, like in canon, and when she flies with it it makes a soft twinkling sound rather like the sound amethyst blocks make when you walk over them.

Sausage: His are made from dyed leather stretched between glass rods. A strange red liquid swirls inside the glass rods, and he will only say that one of the ingredients is blood sheep blood, but apparently there's other things in them that allows him to fly.

Basically the idea here is that the elytra take on traits they identify within their owner, and even if they get passed onto someone else, they remain the same (meaning if another ruler wears someone else's elytra they remain the same, not sure if that would affect the person with a part of another person's personality attached to them,, possibilities I suppose)

Also! If they wear them for too long, or outside forces intervene, the elytra can become fused into their nervous system, and the person basically gains wings. Though, there are a lot of drawbacks to suddenly gaining wings without the physiology of avians (e.g. hollow bones) and there are more disadvantages than advantages with it

Alfonse has never really been one for home improvement. He’s got a rolled-up stick of posters that he’s dragged around from his old room to student digs to slightly nicer student digs since he was a teenager, their corners creased and dotted with blue-tack stains. He’s had the same chipped plate, chipped bowl, chipped cup set since uni, and has been belligerent about swapping them out for anything less likely to shatter the next time he puts it in the dishwasher. But it’s their first flat together, and it feels real, and grown-up, and kind of scary, and he thinks that it’s important to get this part right, to set their life together off with a different start than the other places. Meaning that now, somehow, they’ve got a squeaky-wheeled trolley full of pillows and a cheese grater and storage containers that aren’t see-through plastic boxes and honest-to-god frames for his Quentin Tarantino posters. He’s finding himself entertaining the rather luxurious thought of buying a large and leafy potted plant to brighten up their cramped living room.

Tom is in his element here, and he’s put on his ridiculous reading glasses that Alfonse says make him look like Dame Edna, peering over their chunky glittery frames to inspect the ballroom’s worth of lighting they’ve found themselves amongst. He’s humming as he does so, making notations with the pint-sized pencil they collected at the door. Alfonse is entirely content to let him take the reigns on this one.

He idly people-watches for a while, making noises of interest at another floor lamp when it’s expected of him – the students clearing out the kitchenware section, lugging around the straining blue blags, the parents with children who have been swayed by the toys – before he catches sight of a man circling the desk lamps. Glancing down at his phone, gnawing on his lower lip with some discontent before he glances up and around the terrain before frowning. He swings his phone in an arc, giving the hope of it a hopeful tap, muttering a comeoncomeoncomeon under his breath.

His mobile gives a chirpy buzz, and the man almost hits himself in the ear with the force of answering.

“Where are you?” Alfonse overhears. “I can’t… Jon… Jon, you’re breaking up, yeah, the signal’s… Jon. I’m by the lamps… The lamps. Lamps. I’ve got the trolley, yes, yes – you… hello?”

Alfonse hears a very emphatic fuck’s sake before he decides to go back to Tom and leave the man suffer in private.

Sinead’s planted herself on one of the sofas in the well-lit display areas and has committed to not budging an inch for at least ten minutes. The fabric is a cheery yellow, and it suits the colour-coordinated pretend living room, but she’s not sure she’d choose it herself.

She’s getting a headache. Mel’s off with her nephews and nieces over in the kid’s bedroom section and she just needs five more minutes before she can look at another floral wallpaper or toy car bed.

She’s disrupted from massaging her temples by an irate-looking man with some rather intense eyebrow game throwing himself down on the half-egg-shaped armchair nearby, letting forth a truly impressively disgruntled sigh.

“You look like you’re suffering,” she offers, because she is and she wants to know someone else is too, and he nods peevishly and gives another irritated noise.

“I didn’t realise there’d be so much drama involved in buying a sofa,” he grumbles.

“Amen,” she agrees. They share a quiet moment of strung-out solidarity as they sit moulded into the seat cushions.

“… What’s that one called?” the man asks after a moment of stewing in his own mood.

She shrugs but picks up the tag and squints at it.

“Brathult? With one of those… those A’s that have the little bobble hat. Apparently, it comes in yellow, blue and green.”

“Comfortable?”

“Not bad.”

“Hm.” For a while he goes silent. Then he points out two sofas tucked into different displays and artfully layered with appropriate throw pillows; the first, a stocky black number set upon a sleek wooden frame that serve as its legs, the second, a dense cuboid of cushions currently being looked over by in fastidious detail by a tussle-haired man wearing a t-shirt covered in lots of small cartoon cacti.

“Between that one and that one,” her companion in furniture-based suffering says. “What do you think?”

Sinead studies them carefully.

“The second.”

He huffs. It was clearly not the answer he wanted.

“Why?”

“Not sure. I guess, yeah, it’s not as flashy, but the cushions look deeper. And there’s more width there, even just looking at them.”

“But the first one has all that space under it to store things.”

“Yeah, but you just know it’s going to build up with dust, and you’d be having to get the hoover under it all the time. It seems a bit finnicky.”

The man gives a considering nod.

“You’re right.”

He hefts himself up and calls over to the other display room: “Martin!”

The tussle-haired man whirls around.

Her companion holds up his hands. “You were right. The second one.”

The tussle-haired man looks smugly victorious. Sinead tries to hide her smirk at the sight.

Andy’s heaving the flat-pack box for a small bookcase into their trolley when they hear a conversation bleed through from the other side of the huge metal shelves in the warehouse part of the store.

“I’ve got it, I’ve got it.”

“It’s coming down on my side – woahwoahwoah – ”

“It’s – Christ, swing it this way a bit – ”

“I’ve not – Jon, I’ve not got – it’s – Jon, it’s slipping.”

“Put it down – DOWN – yes, that’s… Right. Let’s… let’s just have a moment. Catch our breath.”

“God, why’s it so heavy? It’s not like it’s even that big!”

Andy pops their head around to the other side of the shelf. Two men are puffing and sweaty, the colour on their faces blooming with exertion. Between the two of them is the long and bulky cardboard box they are clearly trying to manhandle into their trolley.

“Do you… um, do you need a hand?” they ask.

The shorter one waves a polite but dismissive hand before they manage to wrangle some air into their lungs.

“We’re good, thanks.” He says. The taller one raises an eyebrow.

Andy knows well enough to leave them to it.

“I know right, like, what’s the secret?”

“Probably E-numbers.”

“Don’t ruin these for me, Jon!”

“Haha, alright. Help me out with the chips?”

“You finished?”

“The hot dog was enough, I’m getting full.”

“Pass them over then…. You know, I think we did alright with our spoils today. And it wasn’t so bad, all told.”

“We have to get this all in the car yet.”

Chapter 2: I Just Realized My Boyfriend is a Dick

“I speak english sweetheart, what seems to be the problem?” she asked.

“I think I- no I know I switched phones with someone back in America before getting on the plane and now they have my phone somewhere, probably looking through my messages, my pictures, oh Rao my pictures,” Jon said and another wave of panic spread through the teen and the girl chuckled slightly.

“What scared the poor person is gonna see some package they weren’t expecting?” she asked having the audacity to laugh.

“Yeah, my rich famous boyfriend’s,” Jon said shaking her by the shoulders and her face sombered up.

“Well, let’s see what we can do to get you your phone back, I’m Alya.”

“Jon Kent,” Jon said and Alya’s eyes widened.

“As in like Lois Lane’s son?” Alya asked smiling widely. “As in like dating Damian Wayne Jonathan Kent?” Alya asked smile growing bigger than the Joker’s. “I can see why you need that phone back now.”

“I was supposed to be meeting the owner of the phone’s friends here, you wouldn’t happen to be friends with a girl named Marinette right cause I mean your name is Alya and she mentioned....” Jon started and Alya laughed as a boy came over to join her.

“Nino you’re not going to believe this, Marinette traded phones with that stranger that we’re supposed to show around,” Alya said laughing so hard she was almost crying now and Nino joined in the giggles.

“This isn’t funny as much as I want to trust your friend, she has no idea what kind of stuff is on my phone… she doesn’t even know who I am,” Jon said shaking Alya’s shoulders.

“You know your own phone number right? Why not just call it from the phone as an emergency call, and I do know her password if that’s a problem,” Alya said trying to calm down the panicked teen. “Also I don’t think Mari would be the type to leak those kinds of things,” Alya said nudging Jon who rolled his eyes. There weren’t even any dick picks on his phone, more like mission statements that had the exact time and place he was supposed to meet the heroes and stuff that could totally compromise his identity. He just hoped that Damian put a password on it.

Marinette stared up at the ceiling as the phone next to her kept buzzing. She didn’t want to be rude and look especially since Jon wouldn’t do the same with her phone, at least she hoped not but whoever this was really needed to stop texting. She picked up the phone and the screen opened almost immediately. No password.

From Dami: Beloved have you landed yet? Jon are you ok? Did something happen? I knew this was a bad idea. Let me call my father and I’ll be over there right away. He said I couldn’t go, that we needed space but please text me back so I know you’re ok Jon.

Marinette felt guilty for what she was about to do but if it would soothe the boy of the other end’s nerves about sweet Jon for even a moment, she would do it.

To Dami: Nothing is wrong, I just landed.

Marinette texted back nervously and she shut the phone off feeling dirty for lying to her new friend’s boyfriend. It was wrong, so wrong. Marinette picked up the phone and started scrolling through the pictures app curiously. It couldn’t help to indirectly get to know her new friend through pictures.

From Dami: Good to hear beloved, I was getting worried, get some rest we can talk tomorrow.

Marinette clicked on the text gnawing on her bottom lip. Did Jon seem like the type to say I love you after all this? There were no previous texts so it was obviously a new phone with no backups saved.

To Dami: I’ll do that, love you.

She responded and the text was left on read. “What an asshole,” Marinette said to herself before clicking back on the pictures app a bunch of pictures of a white dog with various people filled most of his camera roll as she scrolled through. Pictures of people who must have been family based on the glasses and familiar face shape took up a bunch too but one picture stood out to her the most. It was a selfie taken by a masked teen pressing his lips up to Superboy’s. She dropped the phone on the ground. “Shit.”

Jon paced against the floors of Alya and Nino’s apartment nervously. 

“Dude calm down, we’ll get this all figured out ok?” Nino said and Jon nodded as Nino called his phone number again with no answer. 

“Oh my Rao that asshole,” Jon said suddenly and Alya looked offended.

“Listen I’m sure Marinette just doesn’t want to answer on a stranger’s phone or she’s asleep, no reason to name call,” Alya said offended.

“Not her, Damian, he must have changed the phone number after it got leaked last week, I was missing my phone then suddenly Damian gets me a new one, it all makes sense now and now I have no idea what the number is,” Jon said burying his head in his hands. “That also means that my old one is in Marinette’s but that won’t help either,” Jon said slumping, pushing the Iphone across the table roughly.

“Wait did you say boyfriend?” Nino asked after a moment.

“Is that a problem here, Marinette seemed ok with it and so did Alya so,” Jon started looking panicked not wanting to lose one of the two people who could help him through this hectic circumstance.

“No not at all, it’s just Mari and Adrien have been off their game lately, maybe you could pretend to text Adrien as Marinette but you know flirtier a you style, you guys are a lot alike,” Nino suggested and Alya smirked.

“More like twins, but he’s got a point, I’m sure Marinette would do the same in your situation,” Alya said and Jon picked up the phone seeing a text from a weird name: Chaton.

“Who the hell is Chaton?” Jon asked and Alya looked at Nino and panicked. 

“Um, Marinette thinks our resident hero Chat Noir looks a little like Adrien it’s just a joke they have going on,” Alya said and Jon shrugged before remembering.

“You guys have heroes here, I forgot about that, do they like patrol or something it might be nice to get a glimpse of them,” Jon said attempting to get the information that was supposed to be on his phone from the Parisians.

“Yeah, they’re normally out at night and thanks to the time change you might just be able to see them at some point,” Nino said smiling.

Jon looked back down at the phone smiling. Perfect.

From Chaton: I’ll miss you tonight, good luck in Gotham.  I’m also sorry about earlier, I should have been nicer to you about the whole leaving thing. Dad’s just been getting worse lately, he never has any time left. Not like he ever did before though.

Jon had no idea how to react. Nino looked uncomfortable reading over his shoulder and Alya sighed.

To Chaton: It’s ok, I forgive you, I’m a bit tired after the flight, I’ll text you tomorrow though, I love you.

Jon hit send and got hit with a read. Jerk.

Nino put a hand on his shoulder. “Let’s take you to your hotel and get you settled it,” Nino said and they left the comfort of the apartment. All Jon could think about was how bad he felt for poor Marinette.
