I love you ×9
Ok so I am probably not the first person to notice this or point it out since I've only been a byler for like six months... BUT I did maybe go a little crazy about this. So I'm gonna talk about it.
So a few days ago I was thinking about the mlvn endgame argument "well Mike said 'I love you' nine times". And like, first of all, saying "I love you" doesn't undo a year's worth of deliberate lying and miscommunication. That's not how relationships work. Their issues are still very much real and very much not going anywhere because they're not even TRYING to do anything about them. But also... I was thinking: why nine times? Why that number specifically? Was it just random? Is there maybe anything to indicate that nine is significant? Is there maybe a scene in the first episode of s4 that tells us how we should react to the monologue?
So, the DND basketball montage. Great stuff. Amazing foreshadowing. Everyone loved it.
I got to thinking about it. Decided I needed to know what Mike's roll was. I kinda spiraled about it on twitter because I could not see it clearly and I couldn't tell if it was an eight or nine. Desperate times called for desperate measures so I recorded my tablet with my phone and found the perfect frame.
IT'S A NINE
Tumblr media
Tumblr media
CLEAR AS DAY! IT'S A NINE! GREATEST DAY OF MY LIFE!!
Anyway, I don't know how DND works. I don't know why this roll evoked the reaction it did from the party - most significantly, Mike's very disgruntled reaction (I don't mean The Party™ I just mean literally the party that is playing this campaign) I genuinely don't know what the fuck is going on in this game. But what I do know is they wanted us to associate this roll with failure. That's why it corresponds with a missed basket in the basketball game. That's why Eddie gets this ooo that sucks for you guys look on his face. That's why we hear a chorus of "nooo" from the party. That's why Mike says "no no no" and looks extremely upset. I don't know anything about DND, but I can read context clues.
So I'm not going to try to understand what's going on in the game, I'm just gonna go off what I think they wanted us to subconsciously pick up on.
So they show us all of this. They associate Mike with the number nine in the first episode and then that number shows up AGAIN in the last episode.
The monologue cannot be associated with anything but failure. Whether that be mlvns failing relationship, or their very real failure to save Max (at least before El revived her), and their failure to save Hawkins. The monologue does not stand apart from that. It is completely interwoven with these failures. If you have average media literacy, you know that. Even before I was aware of just how important byler is to this entire story, before I was aware that they've been setting up byler endgame since day one, you would never catch me thinking that the monologue was supposed to be received positively by the audience. You would never catch me saying mlvns love saved the world. (Although that's because I genuinely forgot about mlvn a few weeks after I watched s4). I think I received the monologue in the way it was intended to be received. I didn't fully understand it, or why they would execute it the way they did, but I still received it in the way I believe it was intended to be.
So I know the general agreement among bylers is that the monologue kinda sealed the deal for mlvn bones. Like I'm not saying anything new really. But I genuinely do think that Mike's roll in episode one, the reactions to it, and the missed shot it corresponds with were meant to foreshadow the monologue and how they wanted the audience to receive it.
This is fiction, everything means something. Everything is thought of. The timer (and maybe scores, I genuinely can't remember) in the basketball game had significance. Other rolls in the DND game had significance. Why would that be any different for Mike? Especially when his roll was a nine and that number shows up for him again when he says "I love you" nine times. And both of these things are associated with failure.
Not that we need any other reason to interpret the monologue as a less than good thing. It's just the way that it is, it's pretty easy to figure out how they wanted us to take it. But they still did give us a hint. I think it's really cool.

full disclosure i haven't played these games myself and all this is based off of her word and the knowledge i've absorbed via contamination but hmmmmm.

My (unofficial) PJO season 2 episode 5 script part 3/4 (part 1 | part 2)
I think towards the end of this section my lack of screenwriting experience becomes more apparent but I had a vision and tried to paint the picture probably a little too much so sorry if you're an actor/screenwriter and it looks/reads weird.
Images of script and copied text (bc I'm lazy and don't want to write out alt text) under the cut, just in case I didn't tag enough spoiler warning or people aren't interested <3
Annabeth Tries to Swim Home
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
MATCH CUT TO: INT. DARK VICTORIAN HOUSE – NIGHT.
Continuation of first scene/flashback. YOUNG ANNABETH is still running down the hallway, but seems more determined.
Thunder shakes the windows as she runs down a staircase. She turns a corner into a sitting room. The chairs are upturned, feathers coming out of the pillows all over the floor. A draft comes in from the dark fireplace, whistling with the storm.
Annabeth stops in the middle of the room, facing the three doors that she has to choose from. They look the same.
Hearing heavy footsteps, she opens the leftmost door, closing it quickly behind her. Breathing heavily, she presses her back to the door.
Looking around the room, Annabeth finds herself in an orangery, the glass pelted by rain. Two of the large windows were cracked, spiderwebs expanding from old sites of impact. A few dead fruit trees sit in one corner.
Through the cracks and the rain, Annabeth can see a light coming from a window several rooms down on the first floor of the house. Creeping closer, she presses her hand to the glass as she watches the light.
In another room, Annabeth can see the CYCLOPS, but not much of the room. He lifts his arm, raising THALIA into view from the window. She struggles, and he looks to be laughing. He sets her back down, bending down himself as well (to tie her up, off screen).
Turning from the window, Annabeth looks determined.
YOUNG ANNABETH: (quietly) Hang on, Thalia. I’m coming.
She leaves the orangery from the second door, leading to a less Victorian hallway, one that would have been a servants’ corridor a few centuries ago. The walls look to be made of clay, and the floor is uneven in places. She nearly trips.
Annabeth creeps through an open door, entering a dark room with a long table and walls lined with cupboards. China is smashed on the floor, half the cupboard doors open and hanging by hinges all along the room. Ahead, there’s an open door, light spilling through.
Annabeth approaches, looking through to see a large room that used to be a kitchen, a large broken stove and Victorian era cookware off to one side. In the middle of the room is a raging fire. There are bones all over the floor.
Near the stove sit THALIA, LUKE, and GROVER, tied up. Luke has a large gash at his hairline, but they seem mostly unharmed. Annabeth follows their eyes to see the large Cyclops in the middle of the room, near the fire. He is already looking at her, grinning.
CUT TO: EXT. QUEEN ANNE’S REVENGE – DAY
PERCY is on deck, steering the ship through the sea. ANNABETH appears behind him, coming up from the cabin below.
PERCY: (turning to look at her) Hey. How did you sleep?
ANNABETH: Fine. I-- (pointing) Percy. Look.
In the distance, a lush island can be seen, meadows and forest on one side, cliffs and beach on the other.
ANNABETH (CONT): Are we...?
PERCY: (nodding) 30, 31, 75, 12. That’s it.
They look out at the island, closer now. Annabeth points towards a large tree.
ANNABETH: The Fleece.
PERCY: What’s protecting it? There’s no way it’s as easy as just going up there and taking it.
ANNABETH: There should be... Jason had to fight a dragon in the story. It should have a guardian of some sort.
As they watch, one of the large sheep visible on the island breathes fire, setting the grass in front of it aflame. The fire quickly dies, leaving brown grass that turns back to green and vibrant as they watch.
ANNABETH (CONT): The Fleece must keep the island unburned.
PERCY: So when we take it, it’ll just burn?
ANNABETH: (gasping) Percy, look!
On the beach is a small boat, just like the one they escaped the CSS Birmingham on.
PERCY: That’s the other lifeboat. You don’t think...
ANNABETH: (grim) We’ll never be able to get through those sheep. Sail around to the cliffs.
CUT TO: EXT. POLYPHEMUS’ ISLAND – DAY.
Cliffs and sea sparkle in frame. The Queen Anne’s Revenge sails into view around the cliffs, stopping at the base of them. Percy and Annabeth are on deck looking up at the cliffs, a little apprehensive.
ANNABETH: Come on. It’ll be just like the climbing wall back at camp.
PERCY: That’s what I’m worried about.
Annabeth glares at him. Percy readies himself.
PERCY (CONT): Okay. Let’s go.
Percy moves towards the cliffs, as if to start climbing.
ANNABETH: I’m going first.
PERCY: What? Why?
Annabeth rolls her eyes and begins climbing. Percy makes a sarcastic gesture and follows.
Percy and Annabeth climb the cliffs, steadily making their way up. Percy mostly follows the path Annabeth takes.
ANNABETH: Watch out here.
Percy chooses a slightly different path at her warning.
Suddenly, Percy’s hand slips. He dangles from the cliff by one hand. With the sideways motion, RIPTIDE falls out of his pocket, landing in the sea below. Percy looks down before refocusing on the cliff, finding another handhold.
ANNABETH (CONT): Are you okay?
PERCY: (looking down) Yeah. Let’s go.
ANNABETH: What was that?
PERCY: Nothing. It’ll come back. (turning back to the cliff) Let’s go.
They continue climbing, starting back up a little slower than they were before.
Nearly at the top, Annabeth’s foot slips.
ANNABETH: Oh!
She flounders before finding a foothold on Percy’s head. She rebalances.
PERCY: Ah!
Percy tries to remain still, supporting her in spite of his surprise. Annabeth moves her foot back to the cliff.
ANNABETH: Sorry.
PERCY: It’s okay.
ANNABETH: Sorry.
Annabeth reaches the top of the cliff, pulling herself over. She turns back and helps Percy up too. Percy goes to speak, but Annabeth puts her hand over his mouth to stop him.
They move to the edge of the ledge they are on, peering down into a cavern below. Through the crack, they can see POLYPHEMUS, GROVER in his wedding dress, a large fire in the middle of the floor, and CLARISSE, tied up.
CLARISSE: (struggling) Give me back my sword and I’ll fight you!
POLYPHEMUS: Well, bride? Should we eat her now, or save her for wedding feast tonight?
Grover flounders, nearly tripping over his dress.
CLARISSE: Bride? Do you mean Grover?
ANNABETH: (whisper) Shut up, Clarisse.
POLYPHEMUS: What is a ‘Grover?’
CLARISSE: The satyr? He’s right there.
GROVER: Oh, dear, her poor brain is boiling, you have to--
CLARISSE: In the wedding dress!
Polyphemus turns to Grover and pulls off the wedding veil, revealing his horns. Grover exclaims.
POLYPHEMUS: I don’t see so well. Not since Nobody stabbed me in eye. But you. Are no lady Cyclops!
Grover cries out as Polyphemus swipes at him.
GROVER: Oh, stop! Don’t eat me raw!
POLYPHEMUS: (pausing, holding up a boulder) Eat you raw?
GROVER: Oh, no, I’ll taste awful! I have a recipe! I’ll taste much better grilled, with mango chutney!
POLYPHEMUS: Mango chutney?
GROVER: Yes, yes. You have mangos right out there, in the forest. I’ll just wait here. You go gather them.
Polyphemus considers, before turning to Clarisse.
POLYPHEMUS: Grilled satyr. You are one too?
CLARISSE: No, you overgrown pile of dung! I am the daughter of Ares! Untie me so I can rip your arms off!
POLYPHEMUS: Rip my arms off.
CLARISSE: And stuff them down your throat! Let me down!
POLYPHEMUS: You got spunk. Have to graze sheepies now. Wedding after, with grilled satyr for the feast!
GROVER: You’re... Still getting married?
Polyphemus looks at Clarisse.
PERCY: (quietly, from above) Ew.
Polyphemus gathers his sheep, throwing the door to the cave open as Clarisse understands.
CLARISSE: Oh, no, you cannot be serious. Absolutely--
POLYPHEMUS: I come back at sundown for the big event!
He seals the cave, mumbling about mangos as he walks down the mountain with his sheep.
ANNABETH: (exchanging a glance with Percy) Come on. I have a plan.

https://www.tumblr.com/lover-of-mine/748975070622400512/if-i-take-my-drown-buck-speculations-say-flip-it okey but you cannot leave it at that give me moreee (I’m attached to the down buck but as long as someone drowns I think I’m on board lol)
me: *walks in after weeks to discuss this*
Okay, sooooooo, we are all familiar with my drown Buck 2024 spec that came to me from the voices in my head, BUT the pattern could apply to both of them. I still think that the repetition of people around Buck being late could play into the idea that he will drown, Eddie being too late by definition is part of my justification for this spec. But let's assume Eddie is in mortal danger. With 706/707 info, the idea of both of them getting injured together is kinda out the window for now (since the whole reason I kept saying car crash was the newlyweds from Buck, Actually maybe it's a conflict for freshly together buddie? it's not like they ever known peace lol) considering that Eddie is gonna feel isolated and they seem to be repeating triggers from s4, and the drowning idea for me played off a lot from the idea of repeating the shooting since I think they would need a trigger like that for some feelings realization, you can have Eddie in a similar situation as the well to play off with past trauma the way the shooting does and have Eddie be trapped somewhere that's slowly or not so slowly flooding. I think you could have Buck in there and just have Buck being mad at Eddie but this could work better if they are separated by something and Eddie can't hear Buck because it doesn't matter how pissed Buck might be, he would never leave Eddie behind, BUT if we play off Eddie's brand of abandonment issues and the way those feelings will be fresh in his head with however they are dealing with Shannon and make him think no one is coming that could be interesting. And you can have something that would mash the shooting and the well together for Buck because it seems like the show is moving towards making buddie canon on Buck's side, and to put Buck in that situation again would awake some feelings, there's no way he would lose his shit the way he does when Eddie gets hurt and not be like "oh fuck" so we can have the late thing surrounding people adjacent to Buck mean that Buck is the one who's gonna be too late. Maybe it takes him too long to realize Eddie is missing, maybe he can't break into where Eddie is fast enough, same principle as the version of the specs that we had surrounding the cruise, because I kinda think that the show will parallel that bathena trapped scene somehow, but the thing is, the well is about Eddie saving himself, but the season has a theme of you can't do it alone going on, that would take the save yourself away, especially depending on Eddie's mental state. I still think we spent way too many seasons escaping from season cliffhangers and ABC really likes them so there's no way we are escaping one now, so this could be a cliffhanger, Eddie trapped, thinking no one is coming, playing into last season "we have time" and "we are all gonna die alone" thing he had going that made us think the bridge was gonna be worse than it was, he doesn't have a radio, his phone is dead, I don't know, there's water involved, we can kill electronics real easy, while Buck is going berserker on the other side of the wall trying to get to him but only getting in once Eddie is fully submerged. This could actually be an interesting way to give one or both of them an explicit feelings realization moment, but delaying the conversation because *i hope* it would force them to address their personal and shared trauma before going the romance route. But, yeah, drowning Eddie also works. But this all works with Eddie pinned by something, maybe losing too much blood, hit to the head, I just can't let go of the drowning thing.

do y'all ever think about the way in which mike has never been scared of his feelings for will? of course he has a lot of internalized homophobia and that's why he acts the way he does. but it's not how he feels what scares him. it's what others think and what could happen to them in the future. maybe himself and the concept of liking boys as a whole scares him too.
but will? i'm pretty sure he's always thought that the way he feels for will is the right one. meeting him was the best thing he's ever done, right? so how could be wrong feeling like that towards him?
he's always his true self with will and you can see how much he loves being by his side. my boy is mesmerized by him! the line "your beauty never really scared me" from mary on a cross by ghost is such a good way to explain this!

There should defo be something going on with e-42 because they don't have a spider-man and thus can't have the canon events which should fuck something up (idk what tho), UNLESS by not having canon events they are completely removed from the spidey-verse which idk??? Doesn't really work??? might have more thoughts on that later
HOWEVER! This can be combated by my idea that the canon events need to happen but only once per world. This would make e-42 not being absorbed by a black hole more understandable as miles g's dad being dead could've been a canon event for that world, which works if you go with the idea that he was meant to be spider-man not e!1610 miles. So regardless of him actually becoming spider-man, since he was meant to, the canon events for that world happened to him.
This also means that e!1610 miles falls in a weird spot. Whilst he IS spider-man, the canon events for his worlds spider-man have presumably already happened which would mean that they don't need to occur again and with him also not being the spider-man that was meant to be in that world, the canon events don't need to happen anyway
TL;DR
I really fucking need miles' dad to survive the next movie and will connect the dots until he does

(Its curedeity) top 5 most maligned characters in beyblade. Which have gotten it worst?
oh god i'm no good at character analysis like that, why do you give me the hard questions deity??
pls no judgement i'm winging this in a completely subjective and tailored to me specifically manner (meaning this is only about characters i already care about, sorry your fave probably isnt in this lol)
1. yu
i loved yu to death in fusion and then he was soo boring in masters and fury. what happened man i wanted to see him be cool in the world championships and instead he had to learn a lesson in humility or sth?? fuck that. let him beat up older and more experienced bladers until they regret ever having challenged this feral gremlin of a child.
2. benkei
i think benkei had potential to be so much more than just kyoya's sidekick but they never explored this. they never gave benkei merit on his own, only as someone's (usually kyoya's) best friend, and even as part of team wildfang he was more a mascot than an actual player tbh. they say he's gotten stronger but then he gets flattened in every fight he enters ever. i'm so sad about this
3. hikaru
yes ofc hikaru is in this list, we all hate what they did with hikaru. one of the few female bladers, very competent in a very badass way and then they make her basically a secretary who never has narrative weight again. it would have honestly been so cool if hikaru had been a legendary blader, not just to have a woman at all in that lineup or simply see her fighting again (although those are part of it), but also to explore her thoughts about why she gave up blading and what she thinks about having to take it up again, basically being forced to do it. i do have an AU for this but it's pretty old. gotta think about this more.
4. hyoma
another character i was sad to see shelved after he fulfilled his purpose in his single arc in fusion. especially as a childhood friend of gingka's he originally brought in a whole new dynamic to the main cast. plus, his rivalries with other people would have been cool i bet, esp since there already was a foundation with kyoya. then, the show made such a huge deal about koma village and that could have been really well executed with hyoma's help as well. just,, what other mysteries does koma village have? what is it like living there? what kind of people live there? etc. etc.
5. ryuga
fuck off yes i'm mad that they killed him at the end of fury. they just couldnt handle having a character that was stronger than their protagonist around. they gave him character development for a micro second and then immediately crushed him to dust i mean wtf!! and kenta had to watch it happen!! thats not okay!!
a few honorary mentions: kyoya (fury destroyed all his character development since fusion for what??), madoka, the garcias
