as someone who is also trying to overhaul their entire wardrobe after throwing out fast fashion pieces,, do you have any specific brands you like, advice on places to get clothes for long-term wear, etc? ty!!

thank you for asking! this is a long post but it's been my life for a bit now so i would suggest reading through it to skip the learning stages that i went through the hard way! there is some important and useful info here :) brand recs at the end

i would suggest looking for vintage or secondhand clothes first and foremost bc that's how you can find quality pieces for a reasonable price :)

if you want pure longevity, synthetics like polyester, nylon, elastane, etc will last not only your lifetime but your grandchildrens' too. they can be quite comfortable sometimes BUT:

they will likely break down in hundreds of years

they are NOT biodegradable and so will break down into microplastics and toxic microfibers

for me and a lot of others, you will notice the difference in quality in synthetics vs fabrics like cotton and virgin wool. i refuse to buy synthetics for the above reasons but also bc they just Feel Worse idk how to explain iykyk (tip especially valuable for autistic ppl)

brands: all depend on style so look for the styles you like/want to dress in on pinterest, then track down the original designer of the dress! from there you can search irl places or plug the designers into apps like:

vinted: cheaper vintage or second hand clothes from all sorts of brands

vestiare collective: more high-end, pieces are authenticated and usually in great condition

GEM: a gem of a site truly, accumulates all the finds from your search from different websites like ebay, etc

depop: honestly not the biggest fan but can be good sometimes! make sure to buy vintage/secondhand and ask sellers for the brand to not get sold an aliexpress dupe for 100 bucks

vintage shops: especially good for accessories like belts and ties. vintage shops usually have much better stuff than charity shops

kilo sales: THE BEST PLACES IRL in my opinion i got a 2k+ virgin wool coat for £20 . honestly in my experience kilo sales are great. check out Worth the Weight if you're in the UK!

remember that brand history matters! for example vivienne westwood has a great reputation as luxury punk but the pieces produced in recent years are actually very low in quality, defintely not worth the money for a lot of people! pay for quality, not just the name :) same goes for jean paul gaultier's recent pieces imo.

additional VERY USEFUL tips:

the standard zipper used by most of the companies making your garments is YKK. if you look at any zipper you're wearing rn and inspect it closely chances are you'll see YKK engraved on it. before buying a piece check that it has opti or riri zippers - this is some indication of a higher quality

one of the first things to do before buying a piece is to immediately check the materials it's made of!! the tag detailing materials is usually towards the bottom of the garment . i immediately dismiss things that have higher than 5% synthetics but i'm just rly picky w materials

EACH MATERIAL HAS DIFFERENT USES !!! BUT GENERALLY: virign wool is the best kind of wool, full-grain leather is better than most other kinds of leather, mulberry silk is better than other kinds of silk

brand recs:

yohji yamamoto, yehufan (i own a skirt by him!!), marina eerrie, ann demeulemeester, jw anderson, solovair for shoes (much better than docs), maison (martin) margiela (esp artisanal line 0), miu miu (i wear their beret i thrifted for £15 almost every day), valentino esp pre 2021 , lemaine , undercover older pieces , early raf simons , ...honestly there's a lot, if you need more send another ask or DM :)

p.s. if u can go runway shows etc go to the sample sales afterwards sometimes the pieces there are gorgeous !! but sometimes v pricey :')

I feel like his dad was pretty similar to how people commonly interpret him: sleazy businesses man who expects too much out of son, cares more about money than people, and doesn't treat his wife too hot. he's manipulative, and for the longest time that's where terry thinks he gets it from

but his mother, on the other hand, anyone who saw her would assume that she was at silver sr.'s mercy. getting walked all over, pushed to the side, etc, etc. she has more than she needs, money wise, but from the outside she seems like a trophy wife to be pitied

but i like to think that mrs. silver used that to her advantage. she moved in the shadows, and had more influence on silver sr.'s business dealings than he ever realized. she always got what she wanted, and she wasn't starved for attention because she never needed it from him

and it takes terry decades to realize just how self-sufficient his mother was, just how much influence she had on every. single. aspect. of their lives. it takes him even longer to realize just how much he's learned from her, manipulation tactic-wise, things he previously would have attributed to his father, or even just his own cunning

i feel like a fish out of water here wow. i keep going through my faves and they all seem like they'd do both? like im thinking about one straight couple and even there things could get interesting but anyways

naoya from mr.unlucky is never doing either cause with the tempo at which kouta is moving they'd both die from old age before they ever get there

i'll start off by saying a lot of my mutuals are of this opinion and i respect it <33 that being said - bro. i know they could be a bit much especially when the actors aren't that good or the song is a bit bland or if it just feels very out of place? i understand it's sort of become the norm to hate on these performances because '''bl boy whips out guitar'' is a fandom joke at this point. and people are so loud and proud about skipping every single scene with a song in it. but it results in takes like "omg why did win and team sing their confessions they sounded so bad, so off-key, i barely made it".. that's the point? they are overwhelmed with emotions, snot is running down their face, after months of inner turmoil they finally reach the point where they just have to let it all out and yeah, the song would sound much weirder if they played a studio version on top of the footage lmao (example: the autotune on top of akkayan's bday performance that was so horrendous it turned out funny)

it's not that i haven't been tempted to skip through a boring song. i'm not saying it's a baseless complaint. i just find the way it's expressed usually annoying.

basic italian + advice on where to go

anyway I realized half of the posts in that tag are in italian so I'll just go at it again at random (and if you ever need advice or anything feel free to ask :D)

if you're here for three months you can take it easy and see all the stuff I mentioned in the second post with all the time in the world, also the vatican museums are free on the last sunday of the month so if you want to wake up early and brave the crowd you can save a bunch of money ;)

that said in between than the usuals - the center with coliseum/roman forum/trevi fountain/piazza del popolo/piazza venezia/campo dei fiori/piazza navona route - there's the free caravaggio paintings in the churches that I always recommend seeing asap - two are in santa maria del popolo (in piazza del popolo), three are in san luigi dei francesi (behind piazza navona), one is in sant'agostino (also near piazza navona)

also going by sculptors not counting of course sant'agnese in piazza navona (borromini) with the bernini fountain in front of it, there's san carlo alle quattro fontane (borromini) which has weird opening times but it's 100% worth visiting - that one is nearer termini station at the quattro fontane street crossing, and on the way there's also santa maria della vittoria near termini where not many ppl know there's bernini's ecstasy of st. theresa (idk every time I bring people there without telling them what it is they all go !!! omg !! XD)

always talking churches, ofc you're gonna visit st. peter's at some point (count that after covid they made it kind of harder to go in so get ready to queue), concerning basilicas I'm more partial to st. paul (there's a convenient metro station thankfully), santa maria maggiore (behind termini station) and san giovanni (there's a metro station), and in the san giovanni area (which is like in the middle of termini/coliseum) there's also san clemente which has protochristian catacombs and tunnels and is very cool to visit

talking about protochristian basilicas, sant'agnese and santa costanza are a bit out of the way but they're the earliest we have and very much worth visiting

musei capitolini are a must for archeological stuff and the roman museum next to termini is a must for ancient rome (there's also the terme di diocleziano in front of termini which are also cool)

for less commonly visited museums, centrale montemartini is v. cool because it's a former factory that houses roman artifacts

always close to termini there's rione monti which has santa prassede (lovely church with ancient mosaics) and a lot of second-hand shops/nice places to eat/have brunch

if you're interested in anthropology there's the museums in the EUR neighborhood which have a lot of cool stuff tho idk if they're still open because they were doing a renovation a while ago honestly I have no idea

when it comes to eating/going out etc go to san lorenzo for cheap drinks and nice food, it also has a lot of local flavor™ and it has my favorite surviving record shop in this city lmao

trastevere is also a must-go tho it's very gentrified these days but also very good food/drinks/brunch options, the church in the main square is a great visit and I think it's one of the few medieval-ish ones we have before baroque took hold and it's still v. good to eat, I think I mentioned a few places in the first post

idt I mentioned mr 100 tiramisù near piazza navona until now so I'll do it now because it has the best tiramisù and you can have it in 100 different variants ;)

campo dei fiori is also top notch for drinks and food also it's my favorite place in this city and camping under giordano bruno's statue is <3, also there's an independent bookshop nearby named fahrenheit 451 where you can look at a copy of said book bradbury gifted the owner and has a nice selection of stuff, they also have an english section that's not that extra but they're nice to visit

there used to be the angloamerican bookshop too for english stuff which used to be larger now they moved in a smaller place but it's still a thing, their prices are what they are but what can you do, otherwise there's some nice used english bookshops in trastevere I think in via della lungaretta but anyway if you walk through the place you'll find them fairly soon

at the piramide metro stop you'll find other than the eponymous pyramid the not-catholic cemetery which is imvho a lovely place to visit there's keats and shelley being buried there and a bunch of other famous people (italians mostly) but yeah I like going there X°D

in that spirit, right under the spanish steps there's the keats/shelley house museum dedicated to the aforementioned poets as it's the house where keats died and I haven't been in ages but it was a v good visit

in that spirit, remember to visit villa borghese AND to go to the galleria borghese museum aka one of the most important we have with prompt reminder that you need to book in advance and you only have two hours to visit so you need to time it right

in that spirit also check out the barberini musem (more caravaggio and other painters)

that said your museum priority should be the vaticans but again you have three months to see them so ;)

also go to san pietro in vincoli for michelangelo sculptures ;)

also I think I said it in one of prev. posts but for coffee go to sant'eustachio near piazza argentina it's the best

also I don't remember if I said it in the eating advice post but be kind to yourself go to the jewish quarter (always near campo dei fiori/piazza argentina) in via portico di ottavia, pick a restaurant (my favorite is the full-kosher ba ghetto it's at the beginning of the street) and try roman jewish food because it's heavenly and for the love of yourself even if you don't usually like artichokes do get jewish artichokes you'll thank me for that but again all of them are good I just think BG is superior

also in the same street if you go before 2pm there's a homerun pastry shop at the left corner of the street (it doesn't have a name but there's queues outside) where they make jewish sweets until they run out and they have excellent dark cherry pie which is to die for (in alternative there's another bakery just round the corner which has a more modern look/feel which is also great)

if you're here three months you're probably here for hannukkah and you should probably visit it then too they make special food and they have like events and such

do not ever eat in places where they give you the standard menu ie pizza/pasta + coffee + drink especially in the center that stuff is tourist trap and the food sucks you won't spend much more if you go to a normal restaurant unless it's extra fancy and you get like one dish and not two and it'll be way better

do not go up on the st. peter's dome it's a longass line and you pay and the view is meh, go to the gianicolo hill or the pincio terrace in villa borghese and your view will be better and 100% free

the public transport sucks ass like it does so expect the buses to pass whenever they like and the metros to work just if it's the A line, anyway I'd advise you to get a monthly ticket thrice so you can take buses/trains/metro/tram within the city and to download citymapper which is the most reliable app for all of the public transport here in my experience (there's probus roma as well but citymapper is more accurate as far as I've seen), also if you download one named mycicero you can buy tickets through it and have them on your phone all the time if you'd rather not get the piece of paper or go through the hassle of getting the plastic card

only take taxis if you're ready to pay a lot for it

also now that I think about it

if you wanna take a detour one day go to tivoli to see villa adriana it's amazing

you can go to castel gandolfo for the pope's summer residence which I think is now open to the public but I could be wrong

if you take the infamous train to ostia from piramide station you can go to ostia antica which is an archeological park with great roman ruins, that is if you survive the trip /s sorry that train just generally sucks but if you take it that one time it's okay XD

near the vatican there's a great japanese pastry shop named hiromi cake which if you're into that kinda sweet you might want to visit

if you shop at supermarkets todis is the most convenient, carrefour is the most pricey, coop is like most economical-but-good in between non-discounts and conad is midway, naturasi is for like natural stuff/bio things and it's pricey af (IK YOU DIDN'T ASK THAT BUT I FIND SUPERMARKET ADVICE GENERALLY USEFUL SO XD)

if you need a doctor it's free, idk how it works for foreigners staying long but in case you might need one and you aren't sorted out on that yet ask for the nearest guardia medica and they'll sort you out if you're outside, if you're at home get someone to call them and they'll arrive at your house (if you go to the hospital you might have to pay a fee but it's usually 20 euros for everything)

hi, i really need to vent rn and you are literally a safe space for anything eddie/joseph related and i just feel like i have to talk about it.

my heart is broken and ive cried my eyes out for a while now because joe wont be at the german comic con due to issues with his passport. ive spent so much money on tickets and the whole trip to see him. like, all i wanted was one of those hugs he gives everyone and i wrote him a letter and now its all for nothing.

i am so sad and frustrated now because i wont get my money back and i had to fight the entire week to get tickets for him. i almost got scammed two times and now this. no hug, no smile, no nothing :(

im still going and i at least got a ticket for grace, so as long as she wont cancel too, its at least something. but its still so disappointing and i feel so devastated. knowing that id meet him gave me so much motivation to do something and now its all gone again.

I do not understand what these people want, do they want them to come on every single day and spend hours chatting and responding? Do they not realise they have work/editing to do and lives to live? I decided to reinstall this game cause I really wanted to take some more pics, and I still feel bad for the ppl that worked on this game cause the director said some "controversial" stuff that flat out sunk in the finals days of "woke gone". Cause for some reason he said the game flopped b/c "woke" reviewers talked about the game.... so many of yall really really need to look up the context of shit before using said language or ig yall be lowkey racist but yeah.

I think the game flopped cause it wanted to be a last of us look a like but didn't have the story to back it up, unfortunately. Just be happy u came around and had the chance to create something ppl still decide to love. So many ppl never get their shot but u got urs. Sheesh. It's funny I really liked the shots I took but in some ways I feel icky even playing the game.

So many RPGs now have turned into chores. It's not about fun or writing a compelling story. It's about stealing consumers money and just writing up bs. I'm not saying days gone did that it's obvious they worked on trying to write something worth while, but the gameplay was boring. A lot of the shit felt boring. I uninstalled this game years ago b/c of that.

I wish idk what these devs have to do to make stories more interesting or idk but maybe it could start with giving ppl a chance you'd never guess would help make a game. Everything is becoming the same, either tv or video games, it's a sad sight to see. Ppl creating beautiful games but the story is garbage or games launch broken. Saw a post from someone and it caused a pang of anxiety. Horrible situation and every time I see a post from any of the ppl involved I get so angry because I grew up with these people and they went from inseparable to not talking at all after one got with their partner and ugh idk. This partner is not a good person. Anyway I'm saying too much as it is. It just makes me so upset because this person is so sweet and in so much pain over this and its all the partners fault. God.

So, we should be camping under the stars in the bush by now but our car broke down for the 5th time since we bought it (which was only like 3 months ago). First the fuel injectors died, then the alternator blew, then we had to buy a new battery. And now, the radiator tube exploded (literally) and the engine is dead. Literally every single part in that car is fucked. Even the locks don't work. We have already spent hundreds on TOP of the warranty. At this point we may be legitimately looking at a retrade or refund because asking 18K for a car that is completely broken and unusable is fucking pathetic.

We are so poor we had to borrow money to buy fuel and a bit of food so we could go free camping, put $120 diesel in and then the car dies, money completely wasted. My car is out of fuel, we have no way to go camping. We're compromising by going to the beach tomorrow but to do so I have to use the money meant for my motorcycle rego.

I'm just so fucking sick of it. Neither of us can afford a single Christmas present. We can't even buy a fucking Christmas tree this year. I want to skip december because its seriously just not worth it, and I don't want to hear about gifts being commodified or whatever because I know and thats not the point. The point is I can't afford a single present for my favourite person in the world, I'm too exhausted and burnt out to make art instead, and I need bras and brin needs socks and I'm almost 100% out of fish food and to restock is going to cost $150-$200 and if it wasnt for money something really special might have happened and I just want to tear my hair out and scream. We have no streaming services, the only subscriptions are patreon for Brin and clip studio for my ipad. I have chopped as many expenses as I possibly can, now its basically a car rego each, and for me, motorbike rego as well. I never buy anything for myself. But still every fortnight we cant afford food.

We both just want a family, we want to have kids so badly. We can't afford it because we cant just make one for free. The life we want feels so far away and I can feel the strength to stay positive is slipping away. We're both depressed. Stressed. And fucking sick of fucking worrying about fucking money.

Am I going to have to defer? Work fulltime and battle through debilitating fatigue until we have at least some semblance of a savings? I just feel so exhausted. We have support networks but we still feel so alone.

As we speak, Raffy is telling me to approach Jinx about voting for Zo. BUT Zo is finally talking game with me pre-tribal and wants to save Hairie. Who, incidentally, just got a SECOND idol, only this one is a cursed one and will reveal all the votes at tribal council when played. So he'll probably play it tonight, because Zo told him his name is out there. Which means tonight, I will be EXPOSED if I don't play this so so carefully.

I truly don't know what I'm gonna do tonight. I'm trying to put the vote back on Hairie, because if Zo is willing to work together for a bit, that's a good thing. And if Hairie has a successful idol play, and I need to vote him out, it'll be all the easier to do so later once he has a(n even bigger) target on his back. Plus I'm not ready for him to go now that he's being honest with me again. Then I vote Hairie, he plays his idol, he takes out...idk, Adeline maybe? And we move on from there, with me not looking like I'm playing both sides.

This was the challenge I knew I could not win because it's just a tough one for me personally. What I did want out of this was to be in the top half so I can get some coins. AND THAT I DID.

Idol hunting

I already managed to snag an idol from the festival stand. So all that's left to do was find the other idol that is not in the marketplace. Today (5th September) got on call with Trinica to catch up and that we were worried no names are out there yet. While doing idol hunting live, I took a risk and it was REWARDING because I FOUND AN IDOL on my 4th hunt attempt. Like woah !!

And right on queue even when Zo (we've both not talk game at this point) came to me and said she's heard my name and wanted to keep me and work together. She also told me she's heard Arvin's name and that her name was also circulating out there. I was shock about her name.

Raffy then told me they've also heard Arvin's, my name and Zo's.

Oh I also bought a festival merch from Raffy and gifted it to him to repair our trust.

Quoting Zo's word: "Adeline is the one who told me and sort of alluded that trinica said it but i don’t think that would be true? "

Quoting Adeline from a couple of rounds ago: "I honestly hairie just don’t know what’s going on, and i feel pretty much like i can’t play with you or trinica individually because you’ve made it clear that you are a strong duo regardless of the tension, and that things will be leaked in between y’all. It doesn’t make me wanna be honest with either of you, it doesn’t make me feel like a valued number at all. And i said the same to trinica but i feel like I’m floating on a boat rn lol"

I of course immediately exchange notes with Trinica. We've discussed about us not having any game talks with Zo but there was never a mention of pushing Zo's name. In fact other people were telling us to watch out for Zo. (I can't remember who I heard it from).

This round:

Jinx prefers Arvin but Arvin is a number for me and Trinica (we've made it known to people).

I think Colin going is better for my game and Trinica's. The problem with that is that nobody but Jinx is receptive to the idea (for this round). Plus I don't want to make Raffy mad at me or us.

Knowing this, it would be good to convince Jinx that keeping Arvin here would be beneficial for them too because Arvin will be a number to vote for Colin when Jinx wants to.

Adeline wants me gone and is very anti Hairie and Trinica - According to Raffy and what his POV is from convos with Adeline in DMs.

Zo has shown that she want me around and sharing this information.

The middleground that we all can meet at this point is to vote for Adeline. And I'm not oppose to the idea so I hope it works.

I have not heard from Amy, Colin, Brandi, Adeline or Arvin (3am 6th September SGT).

I have to catch a call with Zo and Jinx separately. Then a call with the host pets chat.

Trinica and I have landed on an Adeline name because Adeline is throwing Trinica under the bus AND they are getting close with Zo and Colin, which has us concerned. We do not want a powerful trio to be able to topple our own. I think I got Amy on board and we are working on Jinx. We were gonna do Zo, but we decided against it since Jinx gave some push back. And next round we are just gonna do Arvin to appease people and get out a goat. We shall see how this all ends up.

Brooo cmon earth has got to be hell right???? Like I know ppl have it way worse off then me. But still like, all last night trying to sleep I had music from to YouTube ads stuck in my head, cuz they repeat often (I need to fix my Adblock situation but still the amount of repetitive ads ur soaked in daily is fucked) and like here I am at work early, taking care of trash like I do every Wednesday, like not a great societal place to be at esteem wise. And grossness-wise. But this is the only shit I can bare doing at the frequency of barely full time. And everything’s dirty and I’m supposed to clean it, not that hard of a job but I’m still like fuck definitely don’t want to do this, I don’t want to work like this but literally every other job I’ve tried is so much more difficult and traumatizing. Idk I just feel all the parts of my body that aren’t quite right, I can’t tell if I’m hungry or if my stomach hurts like it’s both feelings randomly from one minute to the next. Talking about it makes me feel better but it’s like this every day and the only end in sight is retirement when I’m 70, ik that’s unreasonable cuz a lot can change in a year if not 40. But it’s just like, this is the only thing that is feasible. I’m actually lucky I even found out I could do this. But like, the amount of personal problems I could resolve and move past if I had a month off, or a year off. If I didn’t have to work my life would be amazing, and that applies to everyone else too cuz no one’s that special lmao. I do not deserve that shit ahahaha. Bro I lichrally can’t tell what is going on w my digestive system rn. When I’m actively dying I’m going to think about how horrible digestive problems are and that it’s not worth it to feel sad abt dying.
