here's a thing about palestine/israel that i can't stop thinking about. supporting an ethnostate, apartheid, and/or genocide seems like just about the most un-jewish thing one could possibly do. i genuinely do not get it.

like. irl, i've been osmosizing jewish culture and scholarship for the past several years. the impression i’ve gotten is of a people who has undergone untold amounts of discrimination and violence over the past couple millennia, and who is proud of their resilience in the face of that oppression. i know that enduring oppression doesn’t necessarily make someone a good person. and obviously, no group is a monolith. but my impression has been that recognizing that harm and defending other downtrodden groups was a common principle of jewish culture. hell, that’s why my alma mater was founded — so i was living in that legacy for the past ~6 years.

even if you think jewish people have the sole right to the land that we call israel, the israeli state's treatment of palestinians flies in the face of all of that. to go "fuck you, i got mine"*, treat another ethnic group as second-class citizens, and concentrate, blockade, and slaughter them seems completely irreconcilable with what i have come to know and appreciate as jewish values. a complete betrayal.

in light of recent canon academic conversations, riz adaine gorgug study sessions have never been more real to me. gorgug helps riz + adaine get out of their own heads when they’re overworking themselves, riz + adaine help gorgug with alternative studying methods because he learns best through visuals + experience. fabian’s there occasionally when he has a particularly difficult assignment/test but he makes them all swear never to speak of it in order to protect his “image.” kristen has shown up exactly twice: once for advice on a group project that was two months overdue & once to just lay on the floor and relax for an hour before leaving. fig didn’t know the study sessions were happening until sophomore year & now keeps getting monthly bans because every time she shows up she ends up accidentally distracting riz + adaine. also, sometimes after/in the middle of really long study sessions riz adaine & gorgug go to basrar’s together to unwind but fabian kristen & fig Are Not Invited (they do still text to ask if anyone wants something brought back from basrar’s. they’re not heartless, after all).

i think it’s deeply silly to call second born children “middle class” or people who know ~struggle~ and idk where that impulse is coming from bc i’ve seen this take a LOT lately (i think s2 of hotd is rotting everyone’s brains tbh). like “otto had to earn everything he’s gotten” are we somehow also making the argument that kevan lannister or bran stark are middle class and have to ~work for everything they got~ or can we acknowledge that just like every other noble in this series they were all handed immense privilege by their older brothers? like, bran is not ever going to worry about being homeless lol and neither would otto; hell, tywin fucking hates tyrion and is looking for an excuse to disinherit him and says as much to his face but tyrion never suffers for anything materially (until the trial) because regardless of his status as a disabled man, a younger brother, or the scapegoat for all his family’s problems, they’re not going to let him wallow in squalor!! otto, kevan, quentyn, bran, like 70% of the freys, oberyn, ned and benjen, daemon - these are all second born sons and they are not at all equivalent to someone in the modern day who is one medical crisis away from poverty! they are noble born and castles are fucking huge, even if they never married an heiress or their daughters never married heirs, they would NAWT have been homeless!
