DC x DP Idea Thing #2
Child of Freeze AU
MR. FREEZE WOULD BE SUCH A GOOD DAD, YOU CAN'T TELL ME OTHERWISE.
Like
When I first discovered the DC x DP crossover, specifically when the realization sank in that Danny had ice powers, my brain immediately went into overdrive about that and added "WHAT IF DAD!FREEZE" into the mix here.
It's only now my brain wanted to expand on it.
We have the usual trope here that Danny's parents reacted badly to learning about him being Fenton, causing him to get experimented on briefly before running and later settling in Gotham. Here, they found out he was Phantom when his ghost form's appearance started to bleed through to his human form.
His black hair kept gaining white strands every day, his skin gained a paler hue with a tinge of blue only seen in the dead and the ghosts, his body temperature dropped while his heart beats were slower. Hell, he had felt some of the more subtle changes. How his eyes were sore and couldn't see properly for a week before they got better, how his ears became irritated as they shifted to be slightly pointed, and even his limbs throbbed in pain for a while.
At first, his parents chalked it up as a result of being exposed to ectoplasm for most of his life, leading to them practicing lab safety for once in hopes that these changes were temporary.
It didn't take long for them to come up with the conclusion the Phantom replaced their son and used his appearance as a disguise. At least, Maddie came to that conclusion and went immediately to dissect him.
Jack couldn't stand seeing Danny getting opened up like that. Even if he's still conflicted about whether or not Danny is Phantom or Phantom replaced him, he couldn't get the image and the cries of his son in pain out of his head. He helped Danny escape while he distracts Maddie.
Danny ends up coming to Gotham after flying as fast as he could while injured. He ends up finding a frozen place underground and proceeds to pass out as his body tries to regenerate/heal itself. He didn't notice the body suspended in a capsule nearby, having been too tired and too drained.
That's how Mr. Freeze finds him. A teen, likely 16 at most, severely injured, and surprisingly, not bothered by the sub-zero temperatures of his hideout.
I'm all for the idea that before Nora's illness came into effect, she and Victor wanted to have children. The two always had a bit of a soft spot for them anyways. (During the winter season, Freeze doesn't try to cause much villainy as this is the only time of the year he can go around without his suit. Instead, he ends up helping decorate Gotham with some Ice Sculptures and tends to entertain the children of Gotham if possible.)
Essentially, paternal instincts took over and helped Danny get better. Will he be surprised at the exponential rate Danny's healing? Yes, but he just chalks it up to him being a meta. Mr. Freeze will notice some of the unnatural traits present in Danny after all, but who is he to judge? Plus, Metas had it hard in Gotham, even if the no meta rule loosened up when Signal came about in the Batfamily.
Mr. Freeze now has two people to fret and take care of.
(Just- Danny gets adopted by Mr. Freeze, and later on, so do Ellie and Jazz even though she is already over 18 and needs to wear thick clothes)

Question! Do you think Legacy is warmer or colder than the average human? Does he like the temperature difference?
answer! i think he is colder than the average human, and most other Abyssal creatures are too!
the temperature difference is lovely in the summer- Liyue can get very hot and muggy some days, so to have a cool, armored chest to press yourself against is simply blissful. you snuggle up to Legacy whenever you can, plonking your forehead against his back as he squeaks in surprise. but he trills happily when he realizes it's you, turning around to scoop you into his arms and gently lick your cheek with a soft, tender purr. at that moment he likes being colder than you, able to hug you tightly even when it's the hottest day of the year and you're melting like Chongyun's ice pop
in the winter, though, it's a different story. Liyue usually doesn't get as cold as Snezhnaya, but that doesn't stop Legacy from wanting to cuddle with you every night. normally you simply wrap a blanket around your shoulders so you can stay warm, but there are times when he unconsciously scoots over to you, wrapping his very chilly metal-covered arms around your waist while you're sleeping. suddenly you're definitely NOT sleeping, yelping in shock as the frigid armor grazes your bare skin and sends ice down your spine- it startles Legacy awake too, and he whines apologetically and smushes his face against your lap, where there's a blanket over your legs so you don't freeze in the dead of night. several covers and layers are recommended because you refuse to force him to sleep apart from you if he doesn't want to!!

byan's distrust and outright fear of hospitals is something that's come up a bit in threads and muse discussion, but i've never really talked about why they hate them so much?
for one, they have a heavy distrust of any authority figures, including doctors and nurses. pair that with the fact that being treated in the hospital puts them in a vulnerable position and not in any control of things going on around them or to them, that's already enough reason for them to hate the place. and YET... the thing that really traumatized them and created a proper fear of hospitals happened when they were 12. after running away from an abusive foster home, which put them back on the street as they had no where else to go, byan stole from the wrong person and wound up severely injured in the resulting altercation. someone found them, called an ambulance, and they woke up in a hospital bed. using clues from the things they'd had stuffed away in their backpack, the hospital managed to find byan's identity and, from there, found their family - or, the foster family they were still technically under the care of. when the nurse told them that their family had been called and was already on the way, byan panicked and pleaded with her to not let them in, but... of course that didn't work. she thought they were merely afraid of the consequences of running away and being out so late in such an unsafe part of the city, brushing off their concerns to assure them that everything would be fine. it wasn't.
going to the hospital resulted in the family they fled from not only finding them, but dragging them back to that terrible house which became much, much more difficult to escape from after that. and that's all they can think about anytime they're in one of those buildings, be it in a bed or simply visiting.

i was today years old when i realized people completely missed the point of the giving tree by shel silverstein.
like ill be honest, i havent read it since i was a child because i remember being profoundly affected by it. i loved shel silverstein growing up, particularly his poetry books, and as an adult i am thankful for the stories he put out.
the giving tree is a tragic story, but it was never a story to teach children the merits of selflessness. it was a cautionary tale about giving too much. i dont even remember the specifics of this story, but i remember that. the tree giving as much as it gave never seemed like a good thing to me, even as a child.
ig its nice if you want to rewrite it where the tree does not give so much, but it feels like youre missing the point, it feels like a slap to shel silverstein and his intentions.
idk. some stories are sad. that doesnt mean theyre bad.
edit: i understand that an alternative take where the tree sets boundaries can be healing to people who internalized the story and saw themselves as the tree, but to say its an improvement over the original rubs me the wrong way. theres nothing wrong with the original. just because you didn't understand the meaning doesnt mean it was bad.

Contion of yand tode dam with dabi and natso in please
Shoto has been actively trying to not allow Natsuo to meet Izuku because if he's anything like Fuyumi, he'll get attached too. Hell, he already has to convince Izuku to come back to his place at least twice a week or Fuyumi will threaten to track him down on her own.
He can't be convinced that she hasn't, but that's a different fear in his mind.
But, he isn't very lucky. For Fuyumi has invited Natsuo on her own. Their new little brother, she's calling him. Nobody mentions Touya. He was their older brother. But Shoto still feels like Fuyumi is searching for him in Izuku, because he was so deadset on proving people wrong.
Natsuo's different. He's more socialized. He sees the little brother he never got in Izuku. Honestly, if Shoto wasn't so angry about them attempting to take Izuku's valued, precious time, he'd be mad that Natsuo wasn't trying to get close to him like this.
It's another family dinner. Well, fractured, obviously. Shoto's plastered to Izuku's side, sticking to him like a particularly overprotective cat. Fuyumi and Natsuo take the image in, watching with rapt attention. Pork katsudon is being served, izuku's favorite. And they're actively talking about All Might in his #1 Hater's home.
Izuku doesn't look like he minds. He's still very much coming over and eating dinner. He was alone for a long time with a father that wasn't around and a mother who had to work.
Shoto relates, and that's why he latched onto Izuku.
He might've pushed his energy onto someone else, if they only outstretched their hands, but Shoto shakes the thought out of his head. It's downright blasphemous to think so.
"First semester finals are coming up, huh?" Fuyumi asks and natsuo groans. Fuyumi (lightly) elbows him in the side, "I wasn't talking about you! I was talking to the boys."
"Oh, yeah." Izuku replies, "I've been training for the final. Rumor has it that we are fighting the Zero-Pointer robots from the entrance exam."
"The what?" Shoto asks.
"Oh yeah," Izuku remembers, "You got in on reccomendations, didn't you?"
"Endeavor's money hard at work."
"I earned my spot." Shoto replies, "Without using his... firepower."
"We're working on using it." Izuku chuckles, trying to steer away from the sore subject of their father, "But yeah, there was these big Zero Pointer robots that were basically used to seperate everyone and weed us out. Uraraka was about to get smashed by one and I was the only one who noticed, so I went up against it."
"Were you alright?" Fuyumi asks, more fear for past-Izuku than she ever did about Shoto.
"I broke a good portion of my bones!" Izuku answers a bit too happily for the Todoroki's sibling's comfort, "But I got used to it. And Recovery Girl healed me."
"Why are they letting you use a quirk that's actively harming you?" Natsuo asks, "Recovery Girl should've put a stop to this."
"She hasn't been to happy..."
"I bet!" Natsuo exclaims, "I worked under her at U.A. and she would supervise any kid who would repeatedly injure themselves with their quirk."
"I'm writing a letter to U.A. immediatly." Fuyumi says, "this is unacceptable!"
"Well if I don't use my quirk, how will I get stronger?"
"Training," Natsuo says, "without a quirk. Getting your body physically stronger so your quirk output doesn't hurt yourself in the process."
"He's getting a nursing degree" Fuyumi explains, "He's wanted to be a doctor for as long as we can all remember."
"You'd know all about doing things without a quirk, wouldn't you Natsuo?"
The room falls silent. Izuku shifts a bit away from Shoto and the room notices. His back straightens, his grip on his utensils tighten.
And then, he laughs. Forced, nervous. Izuku's nervous, afraid.
And Shoto notices.
"Are you okay, Izuku?" Fuyumi speaks first.
"Yeah, yeah, yeah." Izuku tries to maintain his breathing in a way that isn't noticed. But they all do. They have all been in moments like these, "I knew a kid like that before. Quirkless." He talks of this person detached, as if it isn't him, "He's doing better for himself. Conditions have gotten better. But I just, I just wasn't expecting that comment. That's all."
Nothing is said again, until Natsuo speaks, "I'm used to the comments. They all find out eventually, right? Number two heroes' kid is quirkless. I just didn't expect them to come from Sho's mouth."
"I didn't either." Izuku stands up, "I better go. I promised my mom I wouldn't stay out too late."
Fuyumi jumps up, "Let me call a cab, at least!"
Shoto doesn't speak. He just looks at Izuku.
"No thanks, Fuyumi." He says, "I'll catch the train. Same time, next week?"
Fuyumi and Natsuo both echo back sentiments of agreement. Shoto doesn't say anything and neither does Izuku. Once he's out of their house, Shoto retreats to his room, conflicted, leaving his siblings behind.
