the thing is ‘the girl who fell through the world’ took place 20-30 years ago, ever after time, to judge by jaune’s appearance. it’s really not implausible for a beloved children’s story to have been written just 20-30 years ago in a setting with fantasy internet, and as we’ve seen the ever after has a proper day/night cycle, it’s entirely possible for time in the ever after to run on the same clock as time in remnant—because if this whole volume takes place in the course of just one or two days in the ever after, the V10 time skip issue just isn’t an issue in the first place. so ‘the girl who fell through the world’ is approximately in the neighborhood of 20-30 years old.
ozpin published an anthology of fairytales several years after becoming the headmaster of beacon academy. it’s not exactly clear how long ago that was, but ozpin had already been the headmaster for a while when team strq attended beacon circa 20-25 years ago. he was also the youngest headmaster ever appointed to the position when he got the job, so i don’t think a timeframe of 30-35is years is out of the question for when ozpin became the headmaster. thus, the publication of ‘fairytales of remnant’ and ‘the girl who fell through the world’ theoretically, approximately coincide.
one of the stories in FOR is the grimm child, which in ozpin’s rendition is about a girl named poppy who picks on her brother, oak, and dares him to enter the woods against their parents’ strict instruction. he gets possessed by a chill, which decimates their village and comes for poppy last of all; poppy discovers the carnage and then faces her own reflection as she realizes that she has inadvertently murdered her own brother and massacred her home. ozpin gives her salem’s face, and notes in the commentary that that detail is nontraditional.
the parallel to draw between poppy and oak as characterized by ozpin and alyx and lewis as characterized by jaune is self-evident; jaune is literally convinced that alyx is a homicidal brat who killed her brother to get home. (but note how every character has had a different idea of what alyx did wrong, and how those ideas all reveal something about the character who expresses them; alyx, like salem, is a mirror.)
there is a second novel, entitled ‘the boy who fell from the sky,’ mentioned in the CFVY books which we know nothing about, although the connection to lewis again seems quite obvious. (there are also two alice books: alice’s adventures in wonderland, and through the looking glass—and the latter takes place in a setting that is both the same and not the same as that of the former.) which is to say, it’s not implausible that ‘the boy who fell from the sky’ might be a companion story to ‘the girl who fell through the world’ that is, sort of similarly to through the looking glass, just different enough in how it describes the other world that it isn’t widely recognized as such. [if alyx and lewis were real people, “both of them made it home and both of them wrote a story, but lewis was way more subtle” is a plausible scenario]
but that harmony with the grimm child. Compels me. doylistically, grimm child has been treated like it’s important—it’s one of the handful that got animated. but it’s also clearly not a literal historical event and it’s explicit (to the real audience) that ozpin included it as anti-salem propaganda, to warn people to be wary of her face.
we don’t know how alyx or lewis fell into the ever after. (we do know the staff of creation was involved for rwbyjn, and alyx and lewis wouldn’t have had access to that.) we also don’t know how or even if they really left, but we do know that the cat doesn’t know either, even though the cat was there. so there’s this fuzziness on both ends of the story where the connection to remnant ought to be. the only pieces of the story we know are the ones that happened in the ever after (and even there, we have huge chunks missing and two extremely unreliable narrators).
much to think about.
who wrote the story? why did they write the story? and why now?
i will say. even before shmi was tortured to death, even if you don't process the harsh slave labor or literal implanted explosive device to keep her from running away, shmi is a body horror character because her pregnancy is not consensual. obviously lucas is recalling mary and her immaculate conception but mary was TOLD what was going to happen. she was told she was carrying the child of the lord. that is an essential part of the story. and shmi was not!! she just woke up one day and was pregnant. she didn't know anything about the force. she probably knew next to nothing about pregnancy. she had to carry and give birth in the unimaginable conditions of slavery, with no idea what was happening to her . that's the kind of fear i don't think could ever be tackled properly in a kids movie (esp with it's real world parallels) but that it's not even discussed in fandom is unfortunate
Making a mechanical compass—指南车 (zhi3nan2che1; south-pointing cart), a cart with a figure on top that points south no matter how the cart is turned. Its origins are not very clear, as it has been lost and reinvented many times, but the earliest reliable historical record reports it was invented by Ma Jun (马钧) during the Three Kingdoms period.
Only detailed records of two Song dynasty carts exist, and so it is unknown if the carts of other dynasties used similar mechanisms. Both carts are completely mechanical, and based on the descriptions, seem have the figure connected to the wheels via gears, where two of the gears would lift and lower such that they would not be connected when the cart is moving in a straight line, but would move into working position when the cart was being turned, thus rotating the figure proportionally.
Since only the structure of two carts are known, there is much speculation as to how the inner mechanisms may have worked in the carts when reinvented and in other eras. One popular theory is the use of differential gears, which are what are used in modern cars. OP uses this mechanism in his recreation.
This is part one of a two-part series. Second part here.
TW: Implied kidnapping, this kind of written in a different confusing-ish pov.
"Y/N, look at this one!" Yanqing smiles brightly, brazenly holding up what has to be the twentieth sword today "It's half-price."
"So how much is it now?" You ask, trying not to feel bored and enjoy this moment.
"100 000 shield." Yanqing manages to murmur awkwardly.
"Next one." You say in a deadpan way.
This idea of a shopping trip had been pitched by Yanqing after seeing you cry as soon as Jing Yuan walked out of earshot. It took a while like a while while and a lot of begging but you two managed to get it on the rules that:
You're only allowed in the artisanship commission
You and Yanqing are to stay together
Yanqing thought it was great because you gotta get out. You thought it was great because you got a chance to run. It's a win win.
"Okay this one is just 10 000 shield."
"Eh-Y/N? Wh-fuuuccckkk!"
You had 'joked' about running away a couple of times today but he didn't think you were being serious!! Oh my Aeons, the general's gonna be so mad at me.. Yanqing mentally cries.
Just find them before the general does.
Easier said than done.
It must have been ten minutes. At the most. And you crashed straight into something someone. They were tall and fluffy? (probably from the amount of hair). And they were very familiar...
To re-quote Yanqing "fuuuuuccckkk!". It's Jing Yuan.
"Y/N? Aren't you supposed to be with Yanqing? Don't tell me you-... And to think I trusted you."
something about you figuring it out, JUST LIE. "No we got separated, it was really my fault though I thought-"
"No."
"Pardon?"
And then Jing Yuan laughs. It's very breathy and quite unsettling since he was trying to be seirious two seconds ago, "Don't lie, Y/N. You know what happens." He smiles at you, but there's an unertone of something. Anything.
There's only actually a couple of things he could do, incessant physiological and physical torture OR nothing. Hopefully it's the latter.
Gale Cleven is the biggest pirate legend of the north seas and John Egan is a royal navy captain hauling secret cargo. Rough waters in the treacherous passage might turn out to be the least of his worries.
With their intended voyage into the void only a few days out, Arsay thought it the upmost importance that she steal her partner away to Kugane, that they might share one more fond memory together should things not turn out the way they plan in the thirteenth. It was as they crossed the very same bridge the miqo'te had once sat on together two years prior when Arsay gifted Y'shtola with a bracelet matching that of her own. A token of endearment which, Arsay confessed, she would have given to her fellow scion back then, had nerves not gotten the best of her. While their relationship has undoubtedly changed since the initial purchase of the jewellery, the sentiment remained the same. Y'shtola was someone who Arsay loved dearly and she will forever be grateful to have the seeker's life intertwined with her own. No matter where their free spirits took them, they would always hold each other in their hearts. A promise Y'shtola was more than willing to keep. She slipped the the string of beads around her wrist without a second thought. They were never to come off, not even when the two decided to delay their return to Radz-at-Han in favour of a private bath at the dead of night.
hey you wanna hear another fanfic idea (based on an old doodle) i'll probably never write ok here it goes-
(What if, in her dying breath, Onyxia split Anduin into two, and nothing Varian tries is putting his son back together.)
Varian was able to fuse back together, but to his surprise, he found two boys where one once was. In her final moment, to further soe chaos and seek revenge, Onyxia channelged her power into the boy. And despite their attempts, they cannot get the boys back to one. (They try and use shalamayne, but really they can’t fully recreate Varian’s rejoining, for it would threaten the boys’ health and saftey. They spend the next year trying to locate any magic users who could help, but unwilling to risk their lives, there isnt much they can do. They must be raised as twins.)
Ann and Dulin are identical as young kids, and seem very happy with eachother, and it almost seems like they are better off now that Anduin isn’t really an only child. But then, as they enter their teens, a distinction between the two forms, and it slowly becomes clear that they are halves of a single soul. And their flaws are ever stronger for it. That they arn’t balanced.
(-Little moments as the boys grow up, playing together, learning together, etc.
-Varian hoping at least one picks up the sword, but so far both boys are awful. He struggles, but is reminded they are the same person, of course if one cant do something the other cant either.
-they both shared an interest in light, and learned fast bouncing practice off eachother. Both learn under Velen.)
Ann and Dulin are priests, but Ann is more rebellious and runs away more, and is more open to voicing his opinion, even at the wrong times. Dulin is much more clinging to rules and professionalism, and is quiet and more hiding of his voice, preferring to listen. They bicker more, disagree, and it slowly reminds Varian of his struggle as he and Lo’gosh could not come to agreements despite being one person. And he fears that as they age, Ann and Dulin will further be torn apart.
It does happen, when Ann and Dulin get into an argument, and Dulin uses shadow.
-
MoP is Ann and Dulion getting shipwrecked. Despite his interests in Pandaria Dulin wants to go home as soon as the Alliance finds them, but Ann refuses too, and so Dulin follows along. Ann is the one to confront Garrosh, and Dulin is the one to get him help.
After the Bell scene.
Ann nearly died, and while Dulin didn’t get hurt, it seems he’s fallen ill too. He’s fine, up until he faints infront of everyone. Confused, someone reminds Varian, “They are not complete people. They are halves of a single individual, and that brings with it consequences. They were never meant to grow up apart, their souls are joined and that greatly effects their mind and bodies. I suspect if Ann had died, Dulin would’ve passed away soon after. If you lose one, you lose them both.”
“When you were two, one half was a spineless noble easily charmed by wealth and beauty. The other half was an angry warrior, hot headed and unwilling to listen to opposition. Apart, you were two deeply flawed people who could not agree on anything, and you came close to killing yourself, until one made a sacrifice for the other. It was only because you shared a son did you come to terms with one another.” “I believe having the boys raised together is partly the reason they still get along, but they are very different from one another, and their lives would be better if they were joined again.”
Wrathion believes he knows how to rejoin the twins, and Dulin seeks that help, even behind Ann’s back. (It does not work).
(war crimes scene where Anduin holds his AU self as he dies, only in this fic it is Ann and Dulin watching an au version of Anduin die, seeing what they would look and act like if they were one person, as they should be. This event deeply effects them, acting as a constant reminder that their fractured existance is wrong)
-
-Because of their bickering, it's decided one will take the throne and the other remains prince. Dulin takes the throne, which is actually one of the only things the two agree on, for Ann dislikes the restrictions the title of King would place upon him. Ann still does work for Dulin, represents him in meetings he cant go too, etc, especially durring war, but still runs off sometimes.
-Dulin is taken by Sylvanas to the Shadowlands, and it is Ann who demands to go to find his twin. He felt the moment Dulin crossed into the veil, He feels the moment his twin is corrupted, and feels his soul aching. If Dulin dies so will Ann, and Ann can feel his brother's soul weaken by the day.
-JAILER RAID SCENE but Ann runs into the black smoke, Sylvanas cannot stop him in time- Ann embraces his brother, and a rush of energy envelopes the area. Sylvanas believes it to be the bomb, but as the smoke clears and they live, a single man is left in the middle-
Ann and Dulin fused back together.
the end.

Epliogue:
Anduin, newly rejoined into one person, disappears for several years in order to 'find himself', soul searching or whatever. Now that he is one person, who is he really? Who does he want to be? How does he cope with his past truamas was one person, when half of him experienced things differently?
Epilogue explores how Anduin honestly still feels like two people in one body, that being fully one in heart and mind may be truely impossible, but as time passes, years go by, it seems that healing truely may be possible.
Soooo in 2022 I was doing all these colour palette drawings with my OCs and I didn't draw them as much last year and I miss them so much so I decided to pick up the colour palette drawings again this year cause they're simple but really fun :D
Anyway here's my boy he means more to me than you could ever know.
NEARLY FORGOT I used the palette Unholy Flame (very fitting for this guy >:3) from @color-palettes! Gonna be using a lot more of them in the future, they're really good ✨
