Things that I like about being a woman:

- feeling "special" in some situations where i'm trailblazing or achieving something in a guy-dominated space, especially when other people point that out

- most interests i have/could think of having have no stigma attached to them that would make it difficult for me to pursue them. also corsets and ballgowns etc femme goth fashion pieces being societally 100% acceptable for me to wear in some situations and not even fringe

Things I don't like about being a woman:

- sexual harassment

- being talked over

- wage and employment discrimination

Nightmare found your actions a bit too cutesy so it leaves him annoyed but he’s also the one who spoils you the most (clothes, makeup, accessories, he splurges once he finds some good stuff he knows you’ll love.)

* Nightmare could sense a lot of negativity in his office one day. He goes to the kitchen to see everyone peeping in from the doorway. They all jump noticing him but pointed out to you: their main cause of worry. There you sat with no trace of your usual attire or energy to match it. In fact your energy matched your current look: tired and gloomy. A complete reverse.

* You refused to tell anyone what happened. It made you feel a bit bad when they tried cheering you up. Killer tried his usual jokes, Horror with his cooking, Dust with his worried stare, even Error was willing to give up some of his precious chocolate to cheer you up. Unfortunately you just didn’t feel up to it. So they go to their last hope: Nightmare.

* Obviously he didn’t want to get involved and was enjoying the negativity but even his team knew he was concerned for your well-being as well. So he manages to talk to you and you finally admit that someone had insulted the way you acted and dressed and now you didn’t feel comfortable. It was obvious that you still wanted to but whatever that person said to you, it really upset you.

* Yo….tell me how everyone just dresses you up in your usual outfit. And they all hang around you suggesting all of you would take a small walk together. A bit terrifying for other strangers to see you heavily guarded but you actually felt safe. The person from before unfortunately spotted you and started talking that shit. The absolute FEAR in their eyes when the murder trio circled in on them. They only scared them off but I doubt they’ll let them go Scott free either (don’t expect seeing them ever again after that….)

He always really has been and I know things obviously changed when he got older but an early article that came out saying Al and his gf are dating mentioned the age gap doesn't bother either of them and his gf has dated men around the same age and even older than Al. This is their personal and private life, after all. Men can have children at a very old age, this is just how science works lmao although it can be baffling at 80+, it's still a thing. I would also recommend reading the biography "A Life on The Wire" by Andrew Yule. It has a lot about Al's life from early days, to romance, to his personality and everything inbetween. It's seriously extremely detailed and gives you a whole new insight on just who that man is!

Feel however your heart wants to feel. You don't have to get held up in Al's personal life like others or form a strong opinion just because someone else has. Something like this doesn't need to stop you from admiring what a phenomenal actor Al is and how he's a fine ass man too. 😭

SO I spent $180 and saved $130 which is honestly not that great in my opinion but could have been worse. I once got a pair of American Eagle jeans for $0.01 and I’ve been trying to achieve that high ever since.

I don’t have horrible stomach issues fortunately (my sister took that on for me thankfully 😅) I’m more of a headache girly lol. Every day at 3pm like clockwork. Is it head trauma or from teaching teens all day?? We’ll never know (it’s teaching). But my stomach is very sensitive sometimes (I think it’s hormones). Speaking of, no illness it’s just my period rn right on cue, first day of break ✌🏻

Omg please I hope they come back around I’m not exactly a petite lady so I can’t with the flare/boot cut jeans. They make me look so rectangular (more than I already am), short, and frumpy that’s why I like skinny jeans so much 😂

I love shoes I don’t even care what kind they’re so fun and I think they can pull a whole outfit together. It’s def wedge season now so I’m very excited about that. When I was a child I rocked a tutu and patent leather and Mary Jane’s for about a whole year of my life. It was the last time I wore them and I think cute little Mary Jane’s would be so fun for me now (but seem a little wintry so I’ll wait till the fall) ☺️ I love that for you and don’t blame you at all. There will be time when you get your career and you can wear Mary Jane’s everyday! I can’t imagine the electric scooter I would cry 🤣 I miss that most about college: all the walking. It was so nice (except in the snow/rain) but when it was nice it was cool everything was close by and walkable (I grew up in a rural-ish area so you had to drive to get anywhere).

I wasn’t full blown tomboy but my dad instilled Boston sports in my blood. I played soccer, softball, and volleyball for major periods of time in my life. Soccer was my favorite but ruined my ankles :( I loved fielding but hated batting in softball. Volleyball was by far the most fun but I wasn’t very good. I enjoyed back row. I love watching most sports 💕 I can cheer on any team the bar has a consensus of rooting for when I go out 🤣

Jay who definitely has been checking you out at the party the entire time you’ve been there and trying to talk to you, only to be blocked by your friends who say he’s bad news. Trust Fund Kid! Jay who finally does find you when you’re not with your friends...

“I haven’t seen you here at one of my parties. First time?” Jay inquired as he leaned against the bar, dark eyes reflecting the whiskey (at least you think it was) he held in his hand. 

You drummed your fingers against the wooden countertop and nodded. “Yeah. My uh, friends don’t really like you so they usually try to avoid your parties at all cost.” 

Jay cracked a half-smile at your bluntness and gestured for the bartender to take his glass, turning the offer down when he asked to fill it up. “I’ve noticed. Every time I get within ten feet of you they move you out of my direction like I’m the plague. Not very nice to do, especially in someone’s own house y’know” Jay drawled, eyes flickering down as you adjusted your rather short skirt before looking back up at you. 

“They think you’re uh, well...”

“Go on spit it out, I can take some criticism” Jay nudged, dark eyes showing nothing but mischief. 

“An asshole. A rich asshole, but nevertheless still an asshole,” you blurted, watching as Jay broke out into laughter at the remark, the silver necklace around his neck reflecting the dim light as it moved. 

“And so they drug you here why?”

“Because they wanted to drink your good alcohol.”

Jay scoffed and motioned for you to sit down on the bar stool as he did the same, you quickly glancing around to see if your friends would see before doing so.

“And now why are you here then love?” Jay inquired, reaching out to brush his thumb against your cheek. You were about to reply but the action made your heart frazzle in your chest, forgetting what you were about to say. Jay was quick to notice and gave you another half smile, and you could’ve swore you heard him mutter “cute” under his breath. 

“You had an eyelash on your cheek. What were you about to say?” He continued, his full attention on you. 

“Well, I mean, I’m here because it’s better than staying in my room on a Saturday night. Thought it is loud though,” you remarked as you looked around, watching as groups of people danced to the music of an artist you’d never heard of.

“It is, isn’t it?” Jay remarked, leaning closer to you. The action made you gulp with nerves but you held your stance the best you could, refusing to be swooned by his shenanigans. 

“What are you gonna say your room is quieter and then try to lead me up there?” you questioned back at him, doing your best to maintain your resolve. 

Jay’s expression morphed into one of satisfaction, leaning back in his chair and messing with his empty glass. “Of course not. Despite what your friends thing I’m a gentleman,” he stated, giving you a cheesy grin for sarcasm. “You shouldn’t listen to everything they say you know.”

You chewed on your lip and shrugged, not expecting him to well, not be an asshole. “I know them better than I know you.”

“But they don’t know me at all.”

“But your reputation-”

“Girlie! Did you not check your phone?! We were texting and calling you to see where the hell you were at!” one of your friends interjected behind you, causing you to jump in your seat as you looked back at them. You saw out of the corner of your eye Jay roll his eyes and continue to mess with the glass, not making eye contact with them. One of your friends however, did make eye-contact with him, not even trying to hide her disdain.

“Was Jay bothering you?”

“I think you do that better than I could,” Jay remarked bluntly, getting up from his chair and leaning down to whisper in your ear hoping the music would drown out the noise so your friends wouldn’t here.

“Blink once for yes, twice for no okay?” He said before pulling back. “So I guess I’ll talk to you later then?” 

“I’d rather not,” you quickly replied. Your friends laughed in seeming victory at your remark but Jay only smiled as he watched you give him a clear and definite blink, his hand brushing against your thigh for a moment as he left.

“Gosh, what a complete tool. We would’ve came to you sooner but this house is a goddamn maze,” you heard of your friends remark. You nodded but your head was elsewhere, unable to think about anything else but how your thigh was tingling for his touch...

Trix and Specialist headcanons?

The specialists and Trix..... Hmmm sure

Icy -

I don't think Icy even knows half of them exist. There's the useful one that had the balls to jump off of Cloud Tower, the free hostage that was dating her mark, the one that refused to hold back anything when dealing with her and her sisters (and was deadly precise with those sting things on his hands), and the fairy one that could match Darcy illusion for illusion. That's about as far as her opinion goes

Darcy -

She's the one that cares the most about the specialists for obvious reasons. She's still a little in love with Riven....or maybe accurately angry that he was willing to jump off a tower to escape her and still feeling the need to possess him for her ego. With love thrown in. It's complicated, and Icy sometimes makes her head spin when she talks to her about feelings but she's certain she wants Riven back in a great capacity. (Maybe she wants what could of been? She doesn't know.) She knows who Sky is, and finds him a bit annoying. She appreciates Brandon's non reactive demeanor sometimes as it reminds her of Icy. She thinks Timmy is a bit annoying but kinda cute, and Helia is just kinda funny to her. A little scary, as he's the only specialist that even came close to killing them, but mostly funny at how ready to fight things out of his caliber he is. Kinda reminds her of Stormy. Nabu, however, pisses her the fuck off on principle. Both because he can see though her illusions and bc he taught Riven how to do that. In reality Darcy is a deeply sensitive person who's craves emotional connections. She does this in the very shitty way of trying to possess people, but girl does just want a romantic partner REALLY BADLY. She wants intimacy and trust, unaware that it's like impossible to trust her...also that she hurt the one person outside of her sisters that came to know when and like her. Tbh Riven jumping off of Cloud Tower is what keeps her going along with everything (even after failure after failure) bc as far as she's concerned there's nothing left for her outside of her sisters

Stormy -

Now Stormy definitely doesn't give enough fucks about the specialists to have actually opinions on the specialists. Riven is that funny emotional guy that Darcy dated once, that she's legally required to hate bc he broke Darcy's heart. The blonde one is dating Bloom, which is why Icy knows about him. She's pretty sure that the brown haired guy that has the most boring reactions to things is dating Steller...or whatever her name was. She does remember that nerd guy for being really fucking annoying, and not in the fun way, when she and her sisters attacked Red Fountain. He was just a little coward, and that makes her angry in a way she can barely explain. She thinks the girly looking guy is pretty ok, he's got a rage she can appreciate, but she hates the fairy guy on principle because he can see though Darcy's illusions

Sky unfortunately is very acquainted with the Trix....mostly Icy. His opinions on all of them start and end at "evil murderous bitches", slightly uncaring about the differences in their evil

Brandon usually ends up being the one that listens to Riven in the few times Riven actually talks about Darcy, and wow, he really hates the Trix. On top of that they attack Sky a lot bc Bloom, and he's reaching Helia levels enraged. He does realize he can't really do anything, at most he can get them a harder jail sentence by being a witness, so he just kinda seethes when ever he sees them

Timmy is just scared of them lol. Mostly Stormy who keeps making increasing violent and graphic threats at him

Riven... Do I even need to say it? ~Darcy trauma~ She never took compete control of his head, like I'm assuming happened in the 4kids dub idk tho, but she did use her magic to push him into doing things that he usually wouldn't. And that invasion of his mind and disregard of his autonomy left him a lot paranoid. Even without the mind control Darcy lying to get into a relationship with him, that really fucked up his sense of trust. That's a very good way to rob someone of any sense of safety in their life, good job Darcy. Nothing is ok!!! Riven also had the joy of being around Icy, very convincing Icy. Who is a fucking nightmare to deal if your close to her. Stormy was cool right up until he realized that her more destructive tendancys where honest to god sadism. Usually tries to avoid the Trix when ever possible for very obvious reasons

Helia just fucking hates them. Across the board. His only opnion is murder

Nabu thinks all of them are fucking unhinged lol. He wasn't there for the really nasty shit, and only knows them in refrence to Valtor. He finds Darcy's enraged reactions when he figures her out to be kinda funny. Eventually he realizes that, no, these girls are very dangerous and he really need to take them very seriously

Afterdeath Family Headcanons

No one asked for this, but I wanna talk about it and I don't wanna forget lol. Get ready, this is gonna be a long one. In my head canon, the Afterdeath family consists of Geno and Reaper,(obviously), who are the parents, and their kids Raven, Sorell, Silver, Goth, and Shino(as well as other fan kids like Candy, Momo, Demise etc. but they won't be mentioned. Might make a separate post about them if yall want/if I feel like it). They live in a huge gothic mansion, I don't know where it's located but if it's in an AU it would be next to a graveyard.(They give off huge Addams family vibes, so I had to take influence from that) They also share the house with two pets, a cat named Krueger and a raven named Archimedes, as well as three other people, Lotus, Rurik, and Palette, but I'll talk about those three later.

Miscellaneous Geno and Reaper(mainly Geno) doesn't let any of their kids ages 13 and under be in the house by themselves, so they have either Rogue, Bill, Dance, or Lust watch over them. As of recent, Geno and Reaper also like to have family get togethers with Ink ,Error and their kids(Paperjam and Gradient) as well as Fresh. It usually ends up with Error and Geno fighting/debating over something stupid with Fresh, Ink, and Reaper watching them while the kids play Mario Kart or Smash in another room.

Next onto Palette, Rurik and Lotus which is where I kinda diverted from canon mainly with Rurik and Lotus to the point it could be considered an alternate version of them. Palette(He/they) Because of being busy with battling against Nightmare and his gang, Ink and Dream couldn't and weren't prepared to take care of a child. So reluctantly Dream asked Geno and Reaper to take care of Palette until they could, who was a newborn at the time, which they gladly did agreed to. After that, Palette only saw his Dream twice again and never saw his Ink. They downright abandoned him. •Palette idolizes both Ink and Dream, seeing them more as these fictional action heroes rather than actual people •He refuses to accept that they abandoned him •He wants to go help them fight and reform Uncle Nightmare when he grows up •He didn't even know Ink's name until he met Blueprint's Ink •He has low self-esteem due to him believing he'll never live up to the fictional and unrealistic idea of his parents that he has •He can't use his magic properly due to never being taught by Ink or Dream, can only summon his roller but can't use it •Rurik will give him lessons on his magic later on •He loves and wants to be friends with everyone •Except for Cray •He thinks Cray is annoying but enjoys their rivalry •He's secretly jealous of Blueprint for having contact with his Ink Rurik(He/him)& Lotus(He/they) Rurik and Lotus somehow ended in the Underverse, and now they can't get back to the Fellverse. I have an idea why, but I'm not done with that yet. They didn't have any place to live, so Goth and Palette brought them to Geno and Reaper. Since they were most likely never gonna get back to the Fellverse, Geno offered to adopt them and let them live in their house. Lotus accepted while Rurik declined now but still decided to stay there. •Lotus did not want to go back to the Fellverse while Rurik did •They are the same ages as Palette and Goth(this may change) •They have never dated in this AU, but might in the future •Rurik idolizes his parents similar to Palette and doesn't realize that they are abusive •Lotus has never met Rurik's parents, so he doesn't know what he's going through •Lotus and Rurik have the same powers as Goth and Palette(this may also change) •Rurik refuses to use his roller since doesn't want to be seen as weak with his "girly" weapon •He uses knifes and daggers instead •Lotus hates his parents •Rurik really likes Rogue and later begins to idolize zir •Rogue sees zirself in Rurik and later acts like a parental figure towards him •Rurik likes to play with Shino •Rurik originally started to hang out with Cray just to piss Palette off, but then he actually began to enjoy his company

OC ramblys bc I had plans for today but then they got cancelled so now I’m bored and gonna make it everyone’s problem (this will be a fairly long post)

okay okay general context, world based around magical girl media bc I love it, main five characters are like a group they all have a color and a weapon and all the characters are like in high school

Autumn Liowitz (only character with a last name) is my main character worstie girl. It’s very important to me that you know she’s ginger and had bangs. She’s some green character representation as a main character and also she sucks. Like yes is her life kinda bad? Yeah, her mom left when she was two and her dads dead, but her sister who’s 19 and her legal guardian is pretty cool and her dad died two years ago and she’s still being a bitch about it. Like she used to just be kinda snarky but now she’s just kinda nasty and refuses to make friends and I acknowledge that she’s awful. Autumn’s main issue is her refusal get close to people and to take their feelings into account and thus she ends up hurting them whether intentionally or not. For example when one of the members of their little like team thing is hesitant to use her weapon, instead of trying to understand why autumn berates her for bringing the team down and tries to make her quit. She’s aggressive and combative in the beginning but slowly learns to calm down and be patient and let herself have friends. She’s angry because of the death of her father and takes that out on the world around her, which is bad and she shouldn’t do and she learns that. I adore her even though she super sucks and also she’s like the archer and planner of the group.

Bennett is the red guy and he uses a sword. He’s kinda a quiet guy because he spends a lot of time alone but can get into a screaming match with the best of them (autumn is the best of them) and he does. She dislikes his seemingly apathetic attitude and thinks he’s a stuck up rich kid who thinks he’s better than them and he thinks she’s a bitch. He isolated himself in similar ways to autumn and bc his parents weren’t around a lot and so he doesn’t really have any friends either. Him and autumn are so similar and but heads so much that they sorta end up growing together to be more open, first with each other and then other people as well. They do eventually start dating bc of course they do I like making ocs kiss like Barbies and an important thing to note about their dynamic is that autumn is anywhere from 5’7” to 5’9” and Bennett is just pushing 5’2”. She calls him little red and he hates it. He’s good with a sword because he does pretentious rich kid fencing.

Rory is my cute girl character and she’s the only one that’s like, a normal person. She can do such revolutionary things as hold civil small talk with peers and show compassion towards others. She is blue, more along the lines of lighter blues, not necessarily pastel but lighter than like a navy or a royal blue. She uses a big ole axe and is on the baseball team bc she’s the best hitter. I know girl on boys sports team is an over done trope but I LIKE IT okay and it’s fun especially when said girl is very feminine which Rory is. My biggest problems with writing Rory is that I struggle making characters good people and also giving them flaws so Rory tends to sound like not really a person, just like a nice girl, but I will be thinking about her more and trying to make her worse so there that (obviously not worse but giving her some flaws so she feels like a person. Maybe something along the lines of she tries to mediate so much that she often sticks herself into situations she shouldn’t be in idk I’m thinking)

Finally Chase, because every group needs a former dickhead jock turned reformed bisexual himbo. He’s captain of the baseball team and also the pitcher and he’s originally like toxically masculine, internalized homophobia, my dad hated me kinda guy but bc he and Rory become besties due to the baseball team and he gets involved with the rest of the group he kinda tries to leave that persona behind and just become like a nicer guy. Again his dad sucked because they always do and he’s in prison now, but his mom is like the sweetest woman ever. Chase is yellow, even more gold leaning cause he’s a pretty boy and he uses sorta throwing knife dagger sorta thingies. Chase is a character who’s style I’ve thought about way too much, like he goes from normal jock to sometimes yellow eboy and then sometimes stuff that’s a little more feminine because he wants to and I think he’s very stylish in my brain personally (him and Rory have the most style and everyone else’s style is kinda dogshit or lazy). Also he does eventually date the manager of the baseball team who is like kinda an important reoccurring character but I don’t feel like talking about him right now but he’s fun, his dad is the coach.

plz this is so :(( i just wanna hug you. also i completely know what you mean and i think a lot of ppl do. i have never understood ppl who just fall in and out of relationships. i’ve only ever officially dated one person too - but i never fell in love w him and i think i was just doing it out of societal pressure or to prove to myself i could. i was JUST thinking about this the other day when i was laying in bed. how i just couldn’t fathom someone laying here with me and actually enjoying it. it looks so natural for everyone else but if someone put their hand on my shoulder or looked at me up close i think i’d cut them out of my life. i don’t know how i handled it in the past. i feel like dating me would be such an honest to god disappointment - and that someone would only ever do it if they were settling lmfao. i would feel so bad that they’d have to see me and put up with me? and not get anything in return. like i’d be such an embarrassment and there’s no way around it. i’m a void of a person with nothing to give anyway. plus it’s just so much work to be vulnerable when there’s no guarantee or even high chance it’ll last. and how do you even meet anyone in the first place besides dating apps? how does love even start or how is the protentional for it found?

there are a few things i like to keep in mind when i get overwhelmed by this. the first is that all of your problems with love are internal, but actually nurturing a loving bond with someone is both internal and external because half of it comes from some place outside yourself. outside all your own issues. what i’m saying is others don’t see you or your emotional difficulties the way you do. your self hatred has you convinced you’re unlovable and i’m sure that is deeply rooted and comes from a multitude of factors in your life and your past, but it is not an absolute truth. it may have felt like one since you were a kid, but it is not. the trick of it is to make you believe you are. it has to make you believe because it’s not a fact in the first place. you weren’t born shying away from love, you learned to, and you can unlearn the impulse as well. honestly everyone reads each other differently, everyone sees each other in a new way. you have never seen or perceived yourself in a moment of relaxed happiness, when you’re talking about your interests, when you’re joking around with someone. but everyone else has. there’s nothing inherently wrong about you. you just have a very limited viewpoint of who you are and what your presence could mean to people. the second thing i like to remember is that there is literally no rush. it is so so much more common than you think to remain single up to your late 20s and beyond. i know it seems like the whole world has someone but it doesn’t mean they’re fulfilled or happy either. we live in a relationship and sex obsessed society, and i really feel like most of us wouldn’t date so quickly if we didn’t constantly feel like we had something to prove or that something was missing from inside of ourselves. it is much healthier to go with the flow and to let whatever will be, be. the third thing is that you are a whole person on your own. there are so many different types of love in this world and romantic is just a slither of the greater picture. obviously it’s entirely natural to crave that type of intimacy, but it is not something you will crumble without. it doesn’t make or break your life. it is much simpler and easier to let it find you cause it will, when you feel capable of seeking it out. i think you may have been uncomfortable in past relationships because you just weren’t ready, and that’s totally fine. you can yearn for love and still recognize that you may not be emotionally prepared to take on a relationship just yet, those experiences can co exist imo. i think it’s all just a matter of idk. patience and self love is whats coming to mind for you.

idk if therapy or talking to someone about why you feel this way is available to you but if so, or if it ever is, i would really recommend it. i know that may seem like a big step and super nerve wracking but it’s important to examine who or what made you feel this way in the first place. then you can begin dismantling those beliefs and building your life around being your own friend rather than your own worst enemy. i know that’s a lot, it’s just something to consider for the future. anyway you are good!! you are lovable!! you were born with an inherent worth that hasn’t disappeared just cause you can’t see it at the moment!! and i’m sure you’d say the same about other ppl, so it applies to you too. sending you a lot of love. which you will take on bc guess what :^) ur capable of feeling and giving all forms of love. even if it takes a long time for you to really learn how to do so in a way that you’re compatible with. mwah x

Why Kyoko Mogami is the GOAT

And why y’all are SLEEPING ON HER

Spoilers for Skip Beat, but honestly idk how much of the story I’m gonna get into for this since I’m flying by the seat of my pants. Still, read at your own risk.

Also this is LONG lmao

Kyoko Mogami is a 16 year old middle school drop-out that works two jobs day and night in order to pay rent for the Tokyo apartment that she lives in all by herself 6 days out of the week. Going into the first chapter, there are three things immediately clear about her. 

1. She’s cheerful, kind, and also kind of batshit insane. From the first moment we meet her, her personality is throwing itself at our faces and refusing to calm down. (apologies for the bad quality images, I work with what I have)

2. She loves Sho Fuwa, her childhood friend and rising rock-star that asked Kyoko to come with him to Tokyo after middle school graduation to support his career

3. Nothing matters to her as long as Sho is happy. Sure, she laments that her love for girly dresses, cosmetics, and fairy tale princesses will never amount to anything since all of her money is going toward paying the rent on her and Sho’s apartment, but that’s fine. As long as her precious Sho is happy, so is she. 

And, as you’d expect, things go to shit pretty quickly afterwards. During one her off days from her night job, Kyoko decides to visit Sho at his recording studio with dinner. After sneaking in past the hoards of squealing teenage girls waiting outside to catch a glimpse of him, she overhears him talking to his manager. 

“I’m the heir to a prominent Japanese inn, do you think I’ve ever cooked or cleaned all by myself?” She hears. 

“That’s awful,” the manager replies, “you make it sound as if you brought her just to be your maid.”

“She’s basically been my maid since I was a kid, or else I wouldn’t have brought her along with me. It’s not like I forced her, I asked her a question and gave her the choice. It’s only natural that she’d work her butt off to support me.” 

And he just keeps going. Once he’s made enough to live independently, he’ll send her back. How dare his parents try to set him up with a plain-looking girl like her. She doesn’t even wear make-up! 

As images of flash in Kyoko’s mind of standing in front of make-up stores with no money to buy anything, she takes Sho’s words just as well as one might expect. By unleashing the box of tucked away emotions she’s held in her chest and swearing to take revenge on Sho for using her and throwing her away like this.

. I failed to mention this at the start, but the beginning of the chapter introduces us to the most important piece of symbolism in Kyoko’s character development: Pandora’s box. 

For Kyoko’s entire life, she’s held this box inside herself. In myth, once this box was opened, all of the evil of the world is unleashed, never to be put back inside. So for Kyoko, the metaphor is quite apt. Hearing Sho’s words unlocks the box and unleashes a kind of anger that not even Kyoko knew she was capable of, a kind of determination and vengeance that has her dyeing her hair and staking outside of a talent manager’s house for days on end to whittle down his willpower and give her a chance to audition at Sho’s rival talent agency, LME. Every time she hears his name, or sees his picture, she’s filled with myopic sense of rage that no one can calm her down from. 

Her sole mission in life is to get revenge on Sho Fuwa, a sentiment that finds her at odds with LME’s top actor, Ren Tsuruga, who sees her one-sided quest for vengeance as an insult to people who truly love acting. But as if Kyoko cares, she needs to get revenge! 

I’m gonna drop the pseudo-narration for a bit because I actually need to skip over a fair bit of plot to get to what I think makes Kyoko incredibly compelling, outside of being the funniest female character in existence. We’re going to jump forward in time to Kyoko’s first acting gig. Well, not so much an gig as much as it is a competition. She’s been tasked to play the role of a dignified inn keeper that’s serving tea to the main male character. After having broken her ankle and been challenged by the real lead actress, this is her first shot to prove she has the talent to make it in the acting industry. So in order to immerse herself in the role, she utilizes her experience of being trained by Sho’s mother to take care of the inn that his family owned. It’s here that we finally understand that Kyoko giving up her life back home for Sho wasn’t just a spur of the moment decision brought about by infatuation. It was something she’d been doing for her entire life. Everything she knows how to do, every skill she’s obtained, has been because of Sho. And this is the moment that she realizes that fact too. (the first image is from after the scene is done, wherein Kyoko cannot snap herself out of her character due to the lessons she was taught as a child, despite her sitting position making her broken ankle unbearably painful). 

Even her righteous fury at being left in the dust is focused solely on Sho fucking Fuwa. Is there anything that she has than can be attributed to her own success? Does she have any skills that can’t be traced back to trying to make Sho happy? Who is Kyoko Mogami? Is she worth anything without Sho? 

And I want to make this clear right now, because I know the term “shoujo” makes people hesitate. THIS is what Skip Beat is about. Kyoko’s journey to find out who she is, and with every new role she takes on and with every experience she gains, she becomes just a little closer to finding out who she is and what she wants for herself. 

We watch as her love for acting slowly eclipses her thirst for revenge. A few arcs after this moment, she is contacted about a job to act in a music PV with none other than Sho himself. In the beginning, she accepts the job in order to prove to Sho that she’s climbing the ladder and catching up to him, but her performance suffers whenever she thinks about her revenge. And what saves her isn’t even putting aside her revenge, but prioritizing her own feelings above it. She wants to act! She wants to put on a good performance! So she needs to put aside those feelings of anger and draw from her past experiences to create a character that leaves Sho in the dust. 

I’m gonna bet y’all are wondering about the romance, though. Because this is a shoujo, and of course it has romance. But hey, guess what? That romance is equally compelling and is an integral part to Kyoko’s character too. In the first....5 or so arcs, Ren Tsuruga ‘s relationship with Kyoko crawls it’s way out of the it’s rocky beginnings, and he slowly becomes a mentor figure to Kyoko. He’s her superior in acting, and she looks to him often for support and guidance when she’s struggling to perform a role or having difficulty with her fellow actors. To Kyoko, Ren is the goal, his level of acting is what she aspires to be, so she can stand on equal footing with him. Before there’s even a whiff of romance between them, there develops a solid bond of trust and support. And once the romance starts. Hoo boy. 

To fully understand why it’s taken 12 years irl for a confession scene to finally take place, we need to bring back the metaphor of Pandora’s box. Because not everything escaped Pandora’s box when it was opened. Pandora was able to shut the box just in time for one thing to stay locked inside: hope. In the myth, this is a good thing, while negative and vile emotions run free, hope still exists within people to become better. But for Kyoko, the box isn’t a safe place, it’s a repressed place. She spent her entire life locking away the negative emotions she felt, placing a smile on her face and hoping for Sho’s happiness. And when those emotions are set lose, she locks the box back up, sealing something else inside. Her hope, her confidence in anything having to do with love. 

It’s not just that Kyoko isn’t in love anymore, she feels as if she can’t be in love anymore, that she’s entirely incapable of it. The idea of falling in love with someone else terrifies her. What if she goes back to the way she was before? An empty shell that exists for other people and not herself. The box has been sealed tightly again, and by God this time she’s not going to let anything open it. And like, I don’t want to spoil much in this, as contradictory as that sounds. Because the scene where she realizes she loves Ren? One of the best fucking scenes in any romance manga ever. 

And. God. I haven’t even touched on her mom. Kyoko’s desire for love, that became so warped under Sho and so desolate after his betrayal, can all stem back to Saena Mogami. A woman who, no matter what Kyoko did, rejected any affection that her child tried to give, and gave none in return. “Even a mother can hate her own child.” We get bits and pieces of what Kyoko’s mother was like, and the environment that a very young Kyoko was raised in before her mother left her in the care of Sho’s parents. And eventually we realize that Kyoko isn’t afraid of her love being rejected twice, but a third time. 

Like, y’all, I’m not good at these kind of essays. I keep wanting to go off on tangents, nothing is ever focused, I spend to much time just reading the manga instead of writing this fucking post. But please believe me when I tell you that Kyoko Mogamis character development is like none other. She’s truly at the top of her genre and it’s an actual crime that she’s so underrated. 

I HAVEN’T EVEN TALKED ABOUT KANAE, THE WEISS TO HER RUBY, THE TSUNDERE TO HER GENKI

Before Kyoko gets even a single arc with Ren, she gets two with Kanae. The first with Kanae as a central figure, and the second where Kanae is her support. She’s the one that gives Kyoko the eureka moment she needs to pull of her performance with Sho. They are one of the most developed and deep friendships in shoujo that I’ve ever seen AND Y’ALL NEED TO STOP SLEEPING ON IT. LOOK AT THESE TWO

And don’t take this poorly assembled post at face value, I’ve left out a lot of shit. Starting with how fucking funny this manga is. Kyoko’s special talent for her LME audition is peeling vegetables, there’s a running gag where Ren asks for her advice while she’s in a giant chicken costume, unaware that it’s her, the president of LME is an eccentric millionaire that likes to dress up in different themed costumes every day and loves throwing extravagant parties, Kyoko’s hobby is making voodoo dolls and talks to a miniature Ren doll whenever she needs encouragement or advice. 

And it’s all packaged alongside some of the most compelling character development I’ve ever seen (for both Kyoko and Ren), and some absolutely heartbreaking drama. You will never know true pain until “I don’t have a daughter.”

Read this, ya’ll. You won’t regret it.

I Finished Tsumugu Logic!! Overview/Rant

It took me a month, but I finished the last chapter of the game and got the true ending. I will keep playing to get all of the other bad ends, etc. 

I have so so many feels about this game, y’all. I will be highlighting a few chapters in the game, so if you haven’t finished it. Beware of spoilers!!

[MANY SPOILERS/ENDINGS BELOW]

To recount my feelings throughout the game for each character: 

1. Tsumugu is a cutie pie. I actually really related to him, because I’m also at that point in my life where I have to decide what exactly I want to do for the rest of my life. I just finished university, but I’m still unsure about my career ahahah. So, seeing Tsumugu struggle to figure his life out was refreshing. 

2. “Sosei” is so hot. I laid eyes on him and thought, uh-oh, he’s my new addiction ahahah. I would buy his merchandise if there was any. The dude loves sweets (how cute is that) and he has such a good head for mysteries (my dream man). Plus, he’s a tsundere but really cares about Tsumugu, often giving hints and advice to him. He’s a very trustworthy older brother/senpai. I could gush over how much I love Sosei for ages. His drunken habits -> those are to die for. He becomes so lewd and straightforward. I love it. 

“Koyo”, on the other hand, I didn’t like him as much as Sosei. Which is weird, cause I love ikemen. Maybe I’m just drawn more into the withdrawn, mysterious guys?? I do like the concept of twin brothers though. I have a bit of a dirty mind so when the twins said they shared everything, even their gf, I was like ohohoho, 3p? 

I absolutely enjoyed the twins together though. I love seeing them pretend to be the other. I wish they had more of an appearance lol. I could even say that Sosei and Koyo are a scale higher than Tsumugu for me. I wish the twins were the main protagonists ahahah. No offense Tsumugu. 

I’ll just summarize my first impressions for others real quick: 

3. Kotoko - I thought she was cute, but I never really liked her and couldn’t quite pinpoint exactly why. This feeling will come into play later on. So at first, I was like meh, she’s okay, I guess. But, as I learned more about her, I really didn’t like her character that much. I mean, I wouldn’t say I hated her but I didn’t find her as a good fit for Tsumugu. 

- When she told Tsumugu to be a salesman or whatever. I was like, do you even know Tsumugu? Lmao. I didn’t know if it was just me empathizing with Tsumugu cuz I’ve often been told of what I should be, but no one asks what I want to be. 

- When she didn’t want to help Mirei, I thought how odd, for someone who tries to befriend everyone, she’s not doing so well as a heroine. I mean, it was realistic, at least. But, I think the chapter where she admits that she tries really hard to fit in so others will like her was starting to draw some red flags for me. It made me wonder how much of her was ‘real’. Idk if I’m making any sense though.

- When she swung the knife at Tsumugu, I didn’t hate her as much as I did when she swung the knife at Sosei (who protected Tsumugu) and killed him. I was furious then. 

4. Sally - I admit I was really turned off by the girly lolita style. Mainly because I’m more tomboyish irl. But, she had a good sense of justice so I actually liked her. It did come as a shock to me though that she was the “gorilla” girl that was forced to kiss Nozaki. Tbh, I was kinda sad she died at the end. Like, I know she killed Hikone, but I could understand her motive better than I could understand Kotoko’s motive. Maybe cuz I have an older brother and can’t see myself being a brocon? ahahah. 

5. Toma - In terms of hotness, he comes 2nd right after Sosei. He’s a really good friend. And I absolutely adore how he scares ppl with his glare lol. i love yankees ahaha. He’s not afraid to speak his mind. He’s a very solid character.

6. Daimon - My girl crush. High key curious who she’s arranged to marry because her fiance seems boring. Who takes an hour to choose a handkerchief? Anyways, Im sad that Daimon and Sosei never got to meet because I’m low key shipping them. Idk if they’d click well romantically because they’re so similar, but I would’ve loved for some sort of interaction. They’d make for an epic couple, solving mysteries. I really wanna write a fic for them. 

7. Tsukasa Tsukasa - I didn’t like him because of the cheating and blaming on my poor Toma, but after that, he was okay. Plus, he helped write the Tsumugu’s love letter to Kotoko. Which I find is funny, because Kotoko copied Tsukasa’s writing, thinking it was Tsumugu’s. Ahahah. The lesson here, folks, is that don’t use your own handwriting in love letters, you never know if you’re crush will copy said handwriting into your own suicide letter. 

8. Mirei - that girl can sing. I kinda cried after hearing it cuz I was going through something at the time and it really encouraged me. 

9. Landlady & Hikkimori - Both names that I can’t remember off the top of my head. I think both people are fun. The landlady is super supportive. And the hikkimori refusing to talk with Sosei made for a fun dynamic. I genuinely enjoyed seeing Sosei offended. Nice way to see emotions on my fave character. 

10. Other characters (Rindo, Happy, Travel Club Members) - I genuinely did not care enough about ahahah. I think I even enjoyed seeing some of them murdered, tbh. They were really horrible people in different ways. 

The Black club members headed under Fumi. Like what? How do you control victims to be assailants and live with yourself to be a future kindergarten teacher? Like what? I couldn’t live with myself if I was her. Plus, her disproportionately large boobs were really weirding me out. I can’t believe Yu died all because Fumi wanted to f*ck him. It’s like one day you’re living your best life and someone thinks, ah, I wanna ruin this person. 

Don’t even get me started with Nozaki. That dude is a piece of trash. Human garbage. He knows how it feels to be a victim and yet thinks it’s his right to assault women. I wanted to slap that guy so hard. So many times. He was like the boy who cried wolf. He kept pretending to be dead and eventually died in the hands of Kotoko. XD I wonder what his last thoughts were. To have died in the hands of someone he trusted. 

Hikone was another nutcase. From what I understood, he just saw everyone else as characters in his book. Sure, he didn’t physically harm anyone, but doing nothing and observing is just as much of a crime as committing it. 

Shun. I never really like cutesy guys. But when he turned out to be an ex-pimp plus lover of Fumi, he fell off the likeable scale. 

Yoshimoto being an uncontrollable drunk murderer was the only thing needed to complete the psycho Travel Club members. Tbh, I thought he was the one behind the killings at first ahaha. 

Suguha. I thought she was a tough chick. It was cool to know that she had another motive to get closer to Fumi. Because I thought it was weird how she took her cellphone at the BBQ restaurant. It’s nice to know that SEEC still foreshadows like that.

(Sup guys. This is the first post after a long break and it’s one of the only work that I already finished. I hope that I can post another one this sunday too, but I can’t promise anything. I just have one week left (school) and we have many assigments and exams, so I’m rather stressed.
