TWST Main Cast Pride Headcanons!!!

Compiling all of my personal twst gender/sexuality headcanons into one post 💪

Disclaimer: I won’t bother with a DNI, however I won’t indulge any discourse or homo/trans/aphobia on this post. You will be blocked and promptly clowned on in the group chat. o7

Heartslabyul

Riddle Rosehearts:

Riddle is an interesting character to me. I don’t think he’s the type to put a label onto his sexuality, but I headcanon bi with a female preference. Gender identity wise, I think within the current storyline he is satisfied with he/him pronouns. Best way to put it into words is that I think he’s nonbinary and uses he/him, but doesn’t have a label for that either. After finding out the custom, he always introduces himself and gives his pronouns.

I choose to interpret his line about enjoying the way his heels click as gender euphoria that just went unrecognised. At the time that I’m writing this, the Lost In The Book event isn’t out on en, but through this translation, you can see that any problems he had with the outfit came from the amount of skin shown rather than the actual presentation. I wholeheartedly believe that if he had been magical-girled into a sundress he’d have been totally cool with it.

As an extra note, I’ve seen a couple of transfem Riddle headcanons that I love. I’d love to see more fics with that concept in the fandom. Or I could do it myself lol.

Ace Trappola:

We know that Ace has canonically had a girlfriend in the past, and found her boring. Not nice. He also says that he decided that dating was a pain and he prefers just hanging out with his friends. I get it. I’m aroace and I’ve confessed that I’m biased and projecting 😔 But like. Come on. I’m choosing to interpret him as aromantic/arospec. Let me cling on to the representation that I made up in my head. I don’t have any specific gender headcanons on this guy. I just view him as cis. He/him.

Deuce Spade:

Deuce is another guy I don’t have much for </3 I usually view him as a gay man in my head? He/him pronouns, cisgender. I think he’s surprisingly more open to gender non-conformity than people expect of him, though. (For instance, the ballet lessons.)

Cater Diamond:

It’s canon in the jp server that Cater has interest in dating both men and women. I’m with everyone else in viewing him as canon bisexual. I headcanon him as having a male preference, but sometimes that changes.

It’s obvious what I’ll say about his gender, but for sure under the nonbinary umbrella. We all saw the guitar strap. Maybe demiboy? He/they. Cater is very online, and considering that the nonbinary flag is ten years old, he or his elder sisters might remember its creation.

Trey Clover:

Trey is typically a cis dude in my head. (He/him) He's the supportive older brother type, so I imagine that he keeps the Heartslabyul public bathrooms stocked on pads. I don't know how helpful he would be with advice, but he'll hear you out or refer you to the guidance councillor if that's what you want o7 I don't think the NRC guidance councillors are much help though. Maybe just speak to your homeroom teacher.

I hc that Trey likes men and women with no preference, but just isn't very vocal about it. It'll come up in casual conversation, but I don't think he'd see the point in telling someone unless it was relevant. You'd be having a casual convo with him in the common room, and he might make a reference to a guy he had a crush on in secondary school. Cue SnapCube 'Woah, he's bisexual, I didn't know that!'

Savanaclaw

Leona Kingscholar:

I've seen so many 'token cishet' Leona headcanons that I cant help but to absorb it a little. I do have another headcanon that he experiences some same-sex attraction, but he's got such high standards that he rarely notices any attraction at all. He/him. Maybe poly cause lions?

Jack Howl:

MLM demisexual/romantic truther. (He/him or he/they) I don't have many headcanons for the Savanaclaw trio <//3 if you see/make any please feel free to tag me!! I love reading I love information I love headcanons‼️

Ruggie Bucchi:

Either transmasc or the personification of the 'I'm probably nonbinary but I have a job so idrc about that rn'. I usually picture him with He/him or he/they. Perhaps a rare they/them if you so desire.

Pansexual, his only preference is hard workers on their grind 💪 Between you both you could create an empire of part-time jobs. I've also seen one or two poly headcanons with him that I enjoy. Dividing the bills between the whole polycule lads come on. We're eating good this week.

Octavinelle

Azul Ashengrotto:

I cannot lie, I don't have anything on this guy. There's nothing to be said yk. Like, he's just there in my head and there's not much else I can add. I tend to agree with the MLM headcanons. I also picture him as demisexual/romantic sometimes. Not always. He's the best in the school at remembering pronouns. He updates his secret file on you right away.

Gender wise, I always just enjoy whatever the fanartist/fic writer shows me. I default to he/him. Ursula was based on a drag queen! I think that there should be post-canon/book 3 Azul drag personas. Now I'm picturing a drag design. She/her/he/him for that.

Floyd Leech:

Asexual and panromantic. I think Floyd uses any pronouns, depending on his mood. I headcanon genderfluid, but he typically keeps near the masc end of the spectrum. Not always. The basketball club made colour-coordinated bracelets so that they can easily tell whenever Floyd's preferences have changed. Blue for he/him, pink for she/her, yellow for they/them. Open for combinations of those three, and no bracelets for when he has no preference :D

Jade Leech:

Asexual and gay. I headcanon that he always introduces himself with he/him pronouns, but at the same time I picture him being cool with any pronouns. In classic Jade fashion, he will be generally unnerving about your choice. Like 'Oh? Is that your choice? ...Fascinating :)'

Scarabia

Kalim Al-Asim:

I don't have many headcanons on him specifically, but he'll totally pay for your HRT. Like Trey, he and Jamil keep Scarabia stocked with menstrual products. Kalim has a LOT of siblings, so he's seen a lot of different kinds of people :D He's got a ton of older brother advice. I see him with he/him pronouns, and MLM.

Kalim is a very supportive friend. Always excited to learn new things about his you. Also, those parades he throws? I bet he's (Jamil's) organised an NRC pride event. If I had the skills and patience, I'd draw that idea. If anybody does, tag me o7 I wanna see.

Jamil Viper:

Jamil is a very well prepared man. As I mentioned above, he's the one that puts Kalim's plans into action. He keeps Scarabia stocked on everything, he's technically still an older brother, but I don't see him as having that dynamic with anyone other than his sister. He's still a supportive friend, though :D

I headcanon Jamil as bi, usually with he/him pronouns.

I once had a transfem au Jamil idea way back when I was 17, but I haven't given it much thought since. Maybe I'll bring the au back someday?

Pomefiore

Vil Schoenheit:

Vil has A LOT of headcanons, theories and interpretations in the fandom. Vil is canonically a very gender nonconforming character, using typically gender neutral pronouns, being comfortable in his gender identity and presentation, and is very open to wider interpretations of gender outside of what is stereotypically considered 'masculine' or 'feminine'.

Surprisingly, I've got no proper headcanons on a set gender identity for him. There's already so much canon info within the series, that I just haven't given it much thought. I think he defaults to he/him pronouns, but is perfectly comfortable with anything. Keeps Pomefiore stocked and educated, and he's very well taught in makeup that can make you appear feminine OR masculine.

Similarly, I don't really have any label-specific headcanons for his sexuality. I normally interpret him as MLM. Vil is one of the characters that I'm always interested to see discussions about. His views on gender identity are pretty refreshing to see in modern media.

Epel Felmier:

Epel my friend! Another character that I like reading interpretations of. Again, I always give him he/him pronouns. He also had a lot of canon information on his views of gender norms. His character arc is honestly one of my favourites.

I typically picture that he’s attracted to multiple genders. I’ve seen a lot of interpretations where he mistakes his attraction for jealousy. A lot of “do I want to date him or be him?”

Another au/headcanon I’ve seen a lot of is transmasc Epel. I know a lot of transmasc people see themselves in him. That’s awesome.

Rook Hunt:

This guy! I see him as pansexual but also on the aromantic spectrum. Hear me out. In his suitor suit he has one (1) singular line about not being ready for marriage yet. Like obviously, he’s eighteen, but it just made the projecting side of my brain whir. I now see him as the type to like the idea of romance, just not for himself. Doesn’t mean that I don’t like seeing art/ships that go against this, but that is a hc I hold dear now.

He/him pronouns, but this guy loves to discuss peoples gender identity and interpretations of gender. Sit down with him and a cup of tea, and he’ll listen and talk for hours about how you both feel. Be warned that he may take notes. Mirror pronouns Rook? Oh wait. I like that. Mirror. Like Snow White.

Ignihyde

Idia Shroud:

I typically see Idia as aroace with either little or no attraction. I like the headcanon that he doesn’t date at all, but I’ve also seen enough Silver x Idia to have another set of headcanons. I like both :D I’ve never seen him as not aroace though.

I do kind of wish I had his Suitor Suit sometimes. Every other line is something I’ve definitely said before. Like, the only time he shows any interest in dating is through video games and manga with characters that aren’t him. That’s so me irl you guys don’t understand. I would die happy if twst had canon aro/ace rep.

I think Idia’s the type to only use different pronouns online. Maybe with Ortho, too. He/they online and with close family. Everyone else knows him as he/him. I said that Cater might remember the nonbinary flag’s creation. Idia does. He was on twst tumblr to witness the creation of many flags.

Ortho Shroud:

Ortho is downright fascinating to pick apart. Pre book 6, I doubt Idia programmed a sexuality into him. Like it would even be possible. Then post book 6, after he gains a soul/sentience, I think he and Idia would have had a talk about him now having the choice to one day explore his gender identity and orientation (if he so desires). I think Ortho wouldn’t have any interest in dating, though.

Confessional time. Before wiring this I had the random thought of “In second year Ortho downloads she/they.zip and gets a new body made”. I never meant to pay much kind to it but now I can’t let it go. Like I’ve been accidentally referring to Ortho as she in front of friends. I have a future design in mind. I have additional headcanons about this design. It’s completely taken over. If I ever post that redesign is beyond me but it’s there in my head and it won’t leave. Fem!Ortho future au. Idk if anyone would hear me out there.

Diasomnia

Malleus Draconia:

Another character I enjoy multiple interpretations of. One interpretation I have of him is cupiosexual/romantic. The other is demisexual/panromantic. Either way, the concept of a qpr would make him so excited that it doesn’t rain for days on Sage’s Island. The grass withered.

Malleus is old. Not mentally, but chronologically. He’s seen language change a couple of times, and he grew up with people even older than him. He was born in the mid 1800s equivalent. Thon is one letter off of thorn. See where I’m headed? The use of thon/thons was first recorded in the 1850’s. Gender neutrality is not a new concept to him.

If you asked for his pronouns, I feel like he wouldn’t immediately understand. Like, he calls himself I. Me. Sometimes if he’s with someone we. Did you want all of those too? Oh, just the ones you call him./j

Anyways twisted wokeland au where Malleus allows Yuu to make up a name and set of pronouns for him because he refused to introduce himself/j

Silver:

Another guy I never considered. Mayybe also on the aroace spectrum? I think he’d be happy in a qpr. I think he’s not the type to question it. He just goes with whatever he feels. I’ve not got much lol.

Sebek Zigvolt:

Demisexual/romantic and he/him pronouns. Again, I’ve not thought much on him. I think it takes him a long, long journey of self-discovery though.

Lilia Vanrouge:

Again, Lilia was born a LONG time ago. He was born in the early to mid 1300s equivalent. He’s seen so much change since then, and he’s been through a lot of character arcs. I think I’m justified in headcanoning him as an unlabelled king. If he likes a girl, awesome. He likes a guy? Cool. I think it’s common to hear him refer to himself in a dead language. Baby girl, he has heard pronouns you could not comprehend.

If you ask his gender or sexuality, you’ll get some vague dad gestures, and a ‘you know what I mean’ nod. You don’t. You won’t.

Book 7 spoilers, but I hope that they keep the mlm implications in for the en translations. They’ll probably pull a Cater and write out the canon bi implications though. Heartbroken.

I really like the subtle ways these things are portrayed in the story. Especially within the world building. We know that is generally societally acceptable for men to wear makeup and dresses in TWST, and there’s canon development of language changing over time in a gender neutral way! (Witches and wizards -> mages. Suck on that, Rowling.)

Hi i’m sorry if this is weird but can you talk more about what’s making you leave teaching? I’m in the process of getting my masters rn and i’ve really loved my placement so far but admittedly i’m a little bit uh. scared. lol.

Oh, so many reasons!

Student behaviors are out of control with increasingly less support from parents, administration, and society in general. There’s always some little excuse for why the kid decided to threaten to throw a desk at multiple classmates or wrote “FUCK ME UP THE ASS” on classroom furniture, whether it’s magically the abusive commie teacher’s fault, the poor wittle bwaby uwu is just going through a hard time and needs a bag of Takis, another kid made them upset, etc. Gentle parenting and the over-reliance on giving kids the benefit of the doubt for genuinely atrocious behavior is going to result in a very fucked up generation of adults in the next ten or so years, so be ready for that.

There’s also too much extra paperwork that doesn’t contribute to effectively getting the job done in the classroom in any way. There’s always some stupid PD to go to, some random document that needs to be filled out and uploaded, some email or phone call that just HAS to be responded to by 12:30 PM no matter how much it interrupts actually, you know, teaching your class.

I’m also very pissed off about how my maternity leave was handled, among other things. I understood my leave would be unpaid, which sucks and is honestly unacceptable, but we managed with short term disability giving me 65% of my normal paycheck while I was out. While I was on leave, I also had to deliver checks to the office to pay for my insurance premiums at the threat of having those benefits taken away. What they DIDN’T make clear to me, however, was the fact that my pay rate would be “adjusted” when I came back, so I was also getting hundreds of dollars slashed from each paycheck even when I got back to work, up until the end of this past August. In short, the school district found some legal way to double dip on withholding pay from me for having the audacity to have a baby. It’s 2024, and yet we still have a female-dominated field where this sort of thing is considered expected and okay.

There are also just little things that take away passion from teaching and add up over time. I hate having literally everything I teach revolve around making the kids pass a stupid standardized test at the end of the year. I hate having admin come in and, instead of finding ways to help me and my coworkers grow, picking out “gotchas” to make us feel like we suck at our jobs. I can’t stand being limited by following to the letter exactly the lesson plans the district hands out to us. It’s impossible to handle 16 different IEP’s for individual students. There’s an unspoken expectation that we devote hours of our personal time outside of work to focusing on work-related things.

I haven’t had a huge outbreak in trichotillomania since high school, but my traditional bald patch has started to come back in the last couple of years, I suspect from all the stress and anxiety. When I look at what I want for myself in the next ten, twenty, thirty years, this job ain’t it, especially since I would need to take out another student loan to get a master’s degree if I want to advance anywhere outside of the classroom. I’m not willing to put myself through that anymore. 🤷🏼‍♀️

The Solar Saga

So….. This post has been a long time coming.

NO, IT'S NOT BAD, I SWEAR!

This is the final post of the Solar Panel Saga, a grueling process which took far longer than it should.

BEGIN!

For those of you that do not know, I'm homeless, living in a van. Not by choice, but hey, what can you do?

As a normal adult in the 21st century, I need power.

As a normal adult in a van from 1998, I can't rely on the engine to do it. So I had been thinking of something like this even since I first ended up homeless. but I believed all the solutions for this were impossibly expensive.

then, in February 2024, I found the BOX!

for just ten dollars plus shipping, I could control a solar panel. it seemed like magic! like a Sign! so I purchased it. Along with what proved to me a dramatically inadaquate solar panel, although I didn't know that at the time.

this led eventually to the search for a batter system that would work, and I already had the perfect idea in mind.

in my local (unnamed for legal reasons) big box store, in the marine section, was a battery box with a built-in system of outlets. TWO 12v DC automotive ports! TWO USB Connections! one USB-C and one USB-A! a BREAKER! and a HIGH-POWER EXTERNAL WING NUT CONNECTION DIRECTLY TO THE BATTERY!!!

It was perfect. and only 30ish bucks. the problem, was the battery.

Batteries are expensive. the battery I needed was a Deep Cycle battery, a type of lead-acid battery designed for long charge and discharge cycles. such a battery is a fairly niche item. I didn't and in fact couldn't find one in my big box store. so. I waited for my next paycheck, and went in search of a battery.

turns out ten seconds of googling found a battery store, like, a half mile from my usual parking spot. lol.

with much consternation and a great deal of money ($160is all told) I had my battery. Extensive testing would confirm its functioning in the box.

Now, a PANEL!

In days of Old, when Men were Bold, and whiskey was far, FAR cheaper: solar panels sucked. and were really expensive. when last I had looked into the idea a decade or more before, the best panels were hundreds to thousands of dollars and, while they generated useful power, were finicky about light conditions. then I discovered Mono-Crystal panels, and was amazed. 50 watts for 64 dollars. just over a dollar a watt. larger panels were even cheaper: 1000w of panels came to barely $800! incredible! said I, this would be no problem at all! Until i membered. I'm homeless.

Fuck.

While technically I have a mailing address, that address is at a homeless support place (where you can shower, and do laundry, and get meals, rather than sleep), which is infamous for questionable support staff, long wait times, and not the best service in the world. so.

Shipping a large, expensive, fragile piece of equipment there was a no-go.

then I saw the hardware store I was buying it from had ship to store.

YAY, COVID! (bout the only good thing to come from the Plague. or maybe before? idk.)

So I shipped it there, picked it up, and now was the time to Mount it to the roof!

And this, is where my troubles Truly Began.

At first, I thought to magnet the thing to the roof, so I bought some magnets.

NOPE!

Fiberglass

Then I thought to screw it in.

NOPE!

Couldn't get a drill in the panel

Suction cup?

NOPE!

not strong enough

Glue?

NOPE!

Wasteful, infective, and long cure time

fuck the whole business?

NOPE!

Still need power!

So. after weeks of waiting for money and days off to try shit, I decided on a plan:

Get some Plywood Glue it to the roof get some metal glue it to the board magnet panel to metal.

easy, simple, I need a stepladder, but I can just go to the hardware store, buy then return one. so I got to work.

the glue didn't hold the metal. or the wood very well, for that mater.

so, I relented, bought some screws, a drill, and some drill bits, and on the evening of May 28, 2024, finally saw my dream of solar power through.

it's the end of June now, and my little panel has done well. the metal is rusted orange, the wood is curved and warped, the magnets hold steady, and duct tape keeps the wires out of the doors.

But.

I'm typing this on a laptop powered by solar. and that's Damn Good.

lamia (he/they) is a bristly autistic motherfucker in his mid-to-late twenties who doesnt take care of himself nearly as well as he ought to. their gut reaction to sincere (or insincere) affection is to panic and tell people to fuck off. they are The Bearer of a Curse. despite The Horrors he fights tooth and nail for a better future for the people around him. actually he fights a little too hard. he could stand to take a nap and eat a bagel or something. their favorite things are sweets, sitting alone on a roof, stimming by killing monsters, and dilfs.

Deep Lamia Lore under the cut. spoilers for the fic of which i have posted not a single word

also: content warning for speculative fiction parental abuse. putting this below the readmore because the fact that it happens is a spoiler lol

lamia has had horrific nightmares since he was little. their father was a researcher at what i can best describe as a magical laboratory and promised lamia that he would find a way to help them with the nightmares, saying that they're caused by the Darkness in their Heart. in the meantime the nightmares only got worse and worse. well it turns out his dad was lying the entire time. his dad's research was in how to transfer darkness from one person's heart into another's, and he's been transferring his own darkness into lamia's heart the entire time. ("darkness" and "heart" in this case are both pretty vague concepts that can mean a lot of things, this is how ive decided to play with those ideas for this character)

ten years ago the town he grew up in was taken over by an evil witch who unleashed a bunch of monsters on the town and nearly destroyed it, at which time his parents abandoned him because, well, it's not like his dad would be able to continue his research if he couldn't get to the lab. their current occupation is killing monsters and trying to protect people and restore the town. he runs himself absolutely ragged, barely eats, barely sleeps (because nightmares). he has friends, but there's really only so much they can do to support him when they're also trying to do the same thing he is.

despite his bristliness he's also the type of person to just give and give and give of himself until there's nothing left, not out of any kind of misplaced goodhearted altruism necessarily, because he feels he has to. they've had a couple really awful relationships--not abusive per se, but relationships with people who implicitly blamed them for the Darkness in their Heart and wanted to shape them into something more palatable.

this is the short version. and YES theyre a kingdom hearts oc. theyre a very angsty and tonally dissonant kingdom hearts oc. i made them up so they could kiss a weird old man who talks like a surfer. they have a keyblade and everything. its an old rusty broken keyblade that doesnt even work right. but it's like, Themes.

and before anyone is concerned about the age gap, lamia is 1. a fucked up but fully grown adult and 2. the same age or older than some of the most common characters xig is shipped with. so

SS continues. Seteth is handsome and I think I would be okay with this normally, but I played VW first and Claude was cuter.

Not to be mean, but that's pretty much literally the only difference so far. Off screen Claude even supporting character magics us into getting the same reinforcements in the same place and going to the same next map. (I tell Seteth I want to go to the Kingdom this time. Seteth says no. I feel like at least Claude didn't pretend I had options. Did I just agree with him on everything...? That is also possible.)

It's kind of... even some of Seteth's lines don't seem to be intended for him. I heard from interview that SS was written first, so I figured that playing it would make VW feel like a reskin, but I dunno if it's the order I did them in, but tbh VW so far feels a more "natural" progression, Edelgard stuff aside.

Aside from that, using church units on the church route has some funny effects like that one general going "your army of children," but I'm actually... using almost entirely adults...

Live blogging notes:

Oh, I didn't notice, but the "village" where we wake up is in ruins. There are burnt remnants and half-collapsed brick walls in the background.

Interesting point: I didn't keep track of the months before, but now I see we fell asleep in March 1181 but wake up in December 1185. I kinda thought it would be the same months, but it's not.

Edelgard's tone at the reunion is...... hum. Not very emotive? Don't get me wrong, Claude doesn't exactly get worked up much either, but Edelgard has a lot more personal stakes in all this, and she should really have a deeper investment in regard to Byleth. It was like this when they parted ways in Garreg Mach too.

Edelgard says "friend from our Black Eagle days have chosen to join me in the fight ahead." But that's... hum. First, why is it a fight ahead for her? She's been fighting for 5 years and is winning, according to the info dump. Second, did the students actually join her? I got them all killed, so I won't know either way, but my impression is that this is not actually the case to begin with.

Edelgard is using a wavy sword... Levin Sword?

The fact that Edelgard is older than Byleth now... haha. Claude switches to calling you "my friend" but Edelgard is still pushing the teacher angle.

The info dumps about the political situation post timeskip are slightly different all around, but the only real difference seems to be that Lorenz leads the Empire supporter faction in the Alliance, which iirc was not the case in VW. That checks out. Dimitri is still presumed dead and Faerghus is a Dukedom.

Flayn says she forgot something at the Holy Mausoleum, where we meet up with her... Not sure what this is about. (Update: She and Seteth hang around there later too. Really not sure why.)

SS savefile has the banner I presume Claude also makes you use in VW - kinda blue-grey background with a pink Crest of Flames.

Lol, I killed everyone, but the chapter crawl still says students from the Black Eagle house are working with the Church. Instead I recruited all the Church units, so they show up to help in the new month.

War phase SS has the same monastery music and yellow skybox as VW. Kinda disappointed, tbh. I was (vainly) hoping that each route would get something a little different.

I did notice that they have wooden construction equipment type structures in a lot of places, which I didn't realize before. I guess it's supposed to show how the monastery is in a rundown, damaged state, but even seeing it, I don't think it works too well.

Shamir says that Dagda was "destroyed" ten years ago.

Seteth has been refusing Hanneman's requests for 21 years. So even though Flayn came to the monastery very recently, Seteth has been around for long enough that his physical age is going to start looking weird lol (his info on Serenes Forest says he's physically 27). Notably though, he and Jeralt didn't know each other (iirc), so based on the timeline, Seteth came pretty much immediately after Jeralt faked Byleth's death and disappeared. There are no records of anyone except Seteth having a Major Crest of Cichol. In fact, it seems like there's probably no one who has a crest of Cichol at all. Seteth says he is a commoner and has no idea how he ended up with a crest. Hanneman when Byleth says the exact same thing, while being just as sus:

The fact that I've forgotten half of VW already is making this a little more tolerable, but looking at the chapter list for VW, we did have a monastery defense map before going to get Judith's troops, and in SS we are...... also going to get Judith's troops.

There's some snippets about how Judith and Daphnel have mostly remained out of Imperial attention and how Judith is a devout follower of the Seiros faith, but tbh it feels out of place here compared to VW.

Oh, there's a spy. Man, was this in VW? I remember nothing.

I've seen this mentioned in fic, but the quest for the Almyran merchant in disguise mentions a Nader bear (which is an Armored Bear Stuffy in your inventory). The thing you give him is "Zoltan's Beast Idol" that mentions the famous craftsman Zoltan who was believed to have made only weapons. I wonder if there's some weapon in the game that was made by him?

Seteth repeats the legend about Ailell being caused by the goddess's wrath after a battle there long ago. Which... is a weird thing, given that he should theoretically know the actual cause -- Agarthan missiles getting deflected from the monastery by the protections on the Holy Tomb.

Oh, Judith suggests she's helping because Claude asked her to. My sus man <3

Reiterating that the Oghma mountains are to the south of the monastery and between it and the Empire. You can't enter the monastery from the Empire directly. You have to go through the Kingdom or the Alliance.

Why do they give you the choice between east and west approaches?? I picked west because I already saw the Alliance stuff, but Seteth just directly shoots you down...

Claude continues to be a proper side character by giving us a way to get into the Empire through the Alliance. "I don't know exactly why, but I feel that I can trust you," my dude, it's because you are a side character who exists to fill the needs of the plot. It's the damn bridge again. SIGH

Also, I was worried for a moment when I couldn't talk to Ashe, but apparently you don't need to. Just kill him and he magically survives. There isn't even a little scene about him coming back or anything...?

So I thought it was high time I tried drawing Carewyn’s grandfather Charles Cromwell again, so as to practice drawing older characters...and in doing so, I decided to make a proper comparison post pitting Charles up against his game-canon counterpart: the “Leader” of R as imagined by Jam City, Peregrine.

Yeah, uh...I think you can see why I was a little disappointed by the direction Jam City went with.

In my personal headcanon, I see Peregrine as the original leader of R when Charles first discovered it, only for his supposed right-hand man and mentor figure Charles to backstab him and get him assassinated by a younger and much more trusting Patricia Rakepick so that the head of the Cromwell Clan could take full control of the Cabal, its members, and its activities. According to Rakepick’s account of the event, as told to Carewyn in the still unfinished, grah Good!Rakepick AU --

“I immediately went to Charles Cromwell and told him [about how R had ordered my cohorts and me to attack you]. I had thought that he, being your grandfather, would be furious, regardless of his bad blood with your mother. And, at first, it seemed like I was right. Charles was very displeased when I told him that R had ordered me to attack you. He confided to me that he was concerned about the direction R’s leadership was taking – pointing out that, since I’d joined the Cabal, its members had been using more and more violence to get their way – and he asked for my support in helping him supplant the current leader and put an end to the way he did things. I stupidly accepted. In an attempt to right the sinking ship that I’d joined, I helped Charles assassinate R’s previous leader. I didn’t even know his name. It was only after Charles took over…that I realized what a big mistake I’d made. The violence R had been using wasn’t even planned by the man in charge – it had been Charles who had advised him to use force, to begin with. Charles hadn’t wanted any harm to come to you…but he was more than willing to make Jacob think that he would harm you – and that you, eventually, would also think he would harm Jacob. That way he could keep both of you as his pawns – using your love for each other to keep you in line. And worst of all…he was less upset that R had been willing to hurt a child…than he was that I had told him about it with the intent to try to stop it.”

With this cult of followers now fully at his disposal, Charles had a valuable new tool he could use to re-exert control over the family members who had tried to escape from him...namely, his daughter Lane and her children, Jacob and Carewyn.

Happy STS! What’s a random piece of backstory about one of your OCs that you’ve never shared, either in the story or elsewhere?

Ooh, this is an interesting one!

There are a few interesting things, though some of them are going to be shown in the story as parts of plot twists, so they don't count for the answer to this ask, lol! But I have plenty of other little pieces of backstory for some of my characters, that have never been shared but I find important for the overall understanding of who they currently are.

Here go a few:

Emryc Thorne's father was a magician, the kind that performs tricks and illusions and does not actually use real magic. Emryc was fascinated by those skills and wanted to grow up to be like him, but then the Blood Curse plague swept through their city, and his father died because of it. This forced Emryc to become a thief to survive, though he used the skills and tricks he'd learned from his father, something that not only made him successful in his heists but also kept him close to his memory.

Nadinne Ahmirah once had a sea monster as a pet, she named the little whale/shark monster Mister Truffles. When she was around six years old, her family's navy came across a wounded baby sea monster whose mom had died - presumably due to an attack by another sea monster - and she insisted she could keep it as a pet until it got big enough to go back to the sea. Now, more than ten years later, the enourmous whale/shark-like creature has long since been returned to the sea, but it likes to hang around a nearby bay and comes to visit Nadinne at the beach every afternoon.

When Lord Nethen Fahris was a small child, he was rather emotionally neglected by his family, who barely had time for him due to their duties and the fact that he was a bastard son (something that they kept hidden under lock and key, but which drove a wedge in his relationship with his "mom" who was unable to have children of her own). They eventually got a servant to care for him - a captive elf named Elain that was in his late teens. At first, Elain just cared for him because he didn't have much of a choice and because it was his duty, but eventually he grew to care for Nethen like his own family, something that the boy had never had before. (Elain raised him more than the boy's parents ever did, like actually taught him things, listened to him, watched over him, kept him out of trouble, played with him when the other noble kids didn't want to, supported him, made sure he was eating well, all the stuff a parent should do). They became friends, but a few years later, a mistake made by Nethen angered the Emperor and had terrible consequences. His father wanted to get in the Emperor's good graces again, and so he put the blame for the accident his son had caused (which shouldn't have been a problem, to begin with since he was a child) on the boy's tutor, Elain, who was executed. Nethen never forgave his family for this and swore he would never again allow himself to make a mistake.

Darian and Tanwin met for the first time while Darian, the human boy, was exploring the woods around his home kingdom of Ergyre looking for potion-making components. Tanwin decided to help him out and this was the start of their friendship.

Assuming the barrier doesn't completely nullify her powers (can even the barrier fully block elemental magic given by the Arendelle spirits?) & Elsa still has trouble controlling them, Bruno could probably actually help with that, since Elsa's power is similar to Pepa's (weather controlled by emotions) & he & Juli knew how to calm her down. & if the barrier does block it fully, then maybe he can help once she gets off/the barrier breaks & she can use her magic again and has no idea how to.

We know the Barrier lets some magic happen in minor ways, yet I'm still not certain Bruno could help Elsa that much, as we saw Pepa's control isn't that good even as an adult. After all, "think of clear skies" is only marginally better than "conceal don't feel". That doesn't mean Bruno wouldn't try, and taking her mind off the dark thoughts would help a bit. They have about a ten years age gap (Elsa was crowned at 21, Bruno must have been 30-something when he was sentenced) so he may feel like a big brother towards her, if given the chance (most likely after Cruella kicked him out, in my AU).

The problem wouldn't be as massive as on the outside anyway, as the Barrier is made specifically to block aggressive magic, so what we saw (Maleficent and Mal's glowing eyes, the Faciliers using shadows...) are minor things. Elsa probably only has an air of coldness around her body, can't suffer from the cold herself, and perhaps, in really extreme distress, freezes a bit (enough to shock an attacker, not enough for real harm), while Bruno likely has some strong feelings when something is about to happen, a vague precognitive ability, nothing more. He could barely explain his full prophecies, let alone those vague feelings. Nothing worrisome, so.

I think, out of everyone, the two of them would be actually relieved of being under the Barrier: it got rid of the worst parts of their curses and they could live a normal-ish life. At first. But I have this - honestly hurtful - theory about repressed magic becoming a problem in the long run.

Once the Barrier is gone, though? Well the two of them would have a really bad day. All of sudden, Bruno is overwhelmed by predictions that stayed dormant, while Elsa panics about having her magic again and panic becomes a snowstorm. Unless someone is there to calm her down or taught her more about magic in the meantime, of course (in any version of my au she married a magician, so he knew how to guide her and explain to her things about how magic works).

Once out for good, things would be lots better, especially because Elsa wouldn't be so tense after knowing Anna 100% forgave her and loves her still and she had been pardoned. Bruno would still have some hesitations, but he too would receive a pardon - in fact, an official apology from his wrongful imprisonment, as Ben realized there had been lots of those - and counseling with magicians that would clear the neutral nature of his visions.

There would be a moment, though, when things would feel weird and they'd need to support each other for something unexpected, which is when Carlos poked a hole in the Barrier (in book 1) and some magic came back/was unlocked. An event minor enough not to cause serious harm, yet a reminder their magic was still there, ready to be unleashed again. It would have been a moment of crisis for both, one they had to support each other to go through as no one else could quite understand that no, they didn't think their magic being back was a good feeling. (Now, if you excuse me, I have to go and try to write this bit, lol. Feel free to do too, I'd love to see your take of the issue!)

I really like your latest post. I feel parallels between your old girlfriend's behaviour and my feelings when I thought I should transition to the opposite gender. I feel that there's a similar 'spoonie' community for transgenderism, and I remember in 2013 that plenty of the 'old-school' trans people were saying that the new wave of trans identification wasn't genuine transsexuality.. but instead a psychological coping mechanism for something else, that wouldn't be helped by taking hormones.

Of course, I was someone who was wanting an easy fix, hearing 'if you take these medicines then your whole life will be so much better'. It sounded amazing. But the catch was.... I instantly started convincing myself that life wasn't worth living 'til I got hormones. I fell into a rabbit-hole like you describe your ex-gf falling into, with the spoonie communities. Bonding about a sometimes mutual pain, but the same people would give me the idea that any attempt (by people who didn't identify as trans) to deeply understand what I was going through was an act of 'transphobia'. This meant any questions outside of the pre-scripted ones that 'my group' could come up with, were bigoted.

but I genuinely was going through a horrible time, and this gave me a way to voice my feeling.... but taking hormonal-altering medications wasn't ever going to help. The only help would come when I could see further than the 'spoonie' trans people wanted me to. When I got out of that community, with the support of other people. When they were able to talk to me in reasonable terms, and talk to me like a normal person.... and understand that I was going through pain. The spoonie-transes used a bunch of weird jargon to describe normal concepts. I had to relearn that I could still think normally. My world was so much brighter when I was. The jargon only turned this magical world into a sort of grey corporate landscape reminiscent of Pixie-World in the Fairly Oddparents. Lol.

Thank you for sharing your story! (You sent a couple more long asks expanding on it but I'm not sure it's appropriate here to post them; thank you for elaborating regardless.)

There are lots of misery-spiral, it's-us-against-the-world, this-is-how-to-characterize-what's-wrong-with-you, and anyone-who-tells-you-otherwise-is-an-ignorant-asshole online communities out there for different people suffering in different ways. I already mentioned incels, and there are no doubt a number of both ultra-left and ultra-reactionary groups of this type. And yes, I am definitely concerned that some communities of this sort are contributing to the spike in older children / teenagers asking to transition, and that many very young people are rushing to this as a bandage in place of more difficult-to-find treatments of other psychological issues. Notice that I say "contributing" -- the trans activist explanation of much more acceptance and light shed on what it means to be transgender over the last ten years clearly also is also a contributing factor to more of the youth identifying as trans. And I don't know how many stories like yours there are compared to stories of kids turning out to look back on their transition as a lifesaver. To some extent, time will tell (over the next 5-10 years) to what extent some parts of society have gone overboard in encouraging kids to transition.

It's hard to know how common stories like yours are because there are so many disputes over the data and political pressures interfering with the whole thing. My level of concern about this (on a society-wide level, not my human concern for you and those with similar stories as individuals) depends on a number of factors I'm just not sure of, such as

how frequently psychiatrists nowadays encourage kids to transition under the pressure of a "you know yourself best" assumption being enforced as the ethical norm by some social movements

how frequently kids are put on hormones (rather than just changing their name/pronouns and presenting as another gender)

how frequently kids get approved for some kind of actual sex reassignment surgery (and adults for that matter -- it seems to me that sex reassignment surgery is a heavy-duty recourse that is somewhat rare even in the trans community, and hopefully would be rarer for kids, at least relative to how Walsh/Peterson types make it out to be)

I'm disturbed by the climate of fear around suggesting what you do in your ask(s) and feel like I'm even treading in slightly dangerous waters by giving voice to it. I notice that even types like Freddie de Boer (and a couple of others I can think of, in a less striking way), who are extremely vocal about the dangers of being sucked into mental-illness-happy or other grievance-happy communities, appear afraid of touching the trans youth issue with a twenty-foot pole (e.g. FdB bans people and shuts down his comments sections for weeks at a time if people point out the very obvious parallels between his criticism of Gen-Z mental-illness-happy culture and others' worries about Gen-Z trans activist culture, and I'm not suggesting these are absolutely analogous or that an intelligent rebuttal couldn't exist, just that FdB seems averse to directly addressing it for whatever reason). So it's left mainly to the right wing of the anti-woke intelligentsia to decry it and Republican politicians to pass draconian laws blanket banning various forms of youth medical transitioning in order to score points with today's conservatives.

This is all a mess and I hope we'll get to a place where all sides can discuss this in a cooler-headed way even though there are valid reasons why it's an issue that profoundly affects people's livelihoods in a deeply emotional way. I'm sorry that you went through what you did but glad that you've managed to overcome it and find the right kind of support in the end.

Fake Fic titles: I had nowhere else to go/who did this to you

It was his usual day, selecting a random abandoned house to take a break at in-between fights to avoid the heroes tracking him. He used his shadow to enter like he usually always did when traveling. Most of the time he would have avoided using it so much after fights, but for some reason the only hero that tracked him with it just…wasn't there today. It was odd and it rubbed him the wrong way, but normal people did have lives. Especially those who played hero…they probably hadn't seen even half of what he had. Normally he wouldn't care about the disappearance of a hero, seeing as it could only help him, but this was different.

This hero meant something to him that…he wasn't entirely certain what it was. All he knew is that this situation haunted him…the hero always showed up without fail. He was always there and telling him to stop what he was doing, to please not hurt anyone. That’s what made his entire day better, getting to interact with that completely flawed cat hero. Weak and pitiful man that couldn't fight worth a dime, and yet had managed to become a hero. It was questionable, sure, but he didn’t care much. All he cared about was the fact it was night, he had used his shadows excessively to draw him out, and the cat still wasn't at his rest point.

As it was starting to both bore him and create more worry than he ever cared to admit, a knock sounded at the otherwise silent door. He glanced over, wondering how he’d missed it, but too busy grinning to ponder for too long. He knew that shadow…the hero had finally come after him. What a pleasant development. This brought him to his feet smoothly and he walked to the door without a sound, taking a moment to bring the smile down at least slightly. It would be boring if the cat thought he was actually happy to see him. All of those games would instantly be wasted and he’d never change the guy’s mind again.

He pulled the door open once his smile was under control, not even fully looking before he started, “Well, well—” He was cut off with a surprised lilt to his voice when the hero instantly fell against him limply, almost lifelessly. His tail flicked and he frowned, automatically raising his hands to support the hero and…noticing the blood. Immediately, he was on edge, his tail lashing behind him as he narrowed his eyes at the cat. With a quick scan, he noted that his magic reserves looked forcefully depleted, he was covered in both magical and physical wounds, and was barely staying awake, his breathing far too labored with his head hung.

Before he could really say anything, the cat reached up and grabbed his shirt almost desperately, clinging to the villain like the man was his last lifeline. “I…I’m sorry…I know I shouldn't have gone to you, but…I had nowhere else to go.” The last bit came out as a weak sob, the hero finally turning his face upward to look at the villain. With a face covered in bruises, scrapes, and filled with streaming tears, he gazed pleadingly at the person who was usually his enemy, his ears droopy, tail limp, and every last drop of his bright light gone. He'd been stripped of his joy and was broken.

His blood boiled intensely, his eyes sharpening into a dangerous glare when he stared at the hero—his hero. His precious, joyful ball of fur wasn’t even standing on his own as he lay crumpled against someone that he thought was an enemy. They’d pushed him far enough he’d gone to a villain. With a tone full of murder and as icy as the arctic, he snarled, “Who did this to you?” No-one, and he meant no-one, was allowed to hurt this hero. Not his hero. He still held patience for the weak man, but his mind already raced with the many ways he could retaliate, that he could crush those that hurt his hero.

The cat hero was shuddering slightly under that gaze, but merely buried his face in the villain’s chest and prayed the anger wasn't his fault. “I-it…I’m sorry…” He could only sob out another apology, losing more and more strength as he began to fully rely on the powerful and firm grip of the villain to stay on his feet. “I shouldn't…I shouldn't have come to you—”

With a growl, his long, serpentine tail came up under the hero’s chin to the pleas and force him to look at the villain. Both frustrated and hurting for his hero, the dangerous villain looked this hero in the eye without any lies. “Who. Did. This?” He bit back some of his more aggressive responses and knew that he’d be answering questions for helping the hero, his hero, but he didn’t care. In any other situation he may have just knocked the cat out and let him rest, but for him to have been broken like this? For that constant sunshine he had even when fighting villains to just…be erased? He wasn’t going to ignore it.

Eventually, the hero stopped looking at the villain with so much fear from being forced to look up, choking out, “I-it was…”

After finding out, he got the hero settled down on a bed in the abandoned house and went out to absolutely destroy the culprits...of which I won't name bc it's actually a spoiler. I'm considering using this again later for that timeline, it would just be a little different bc the circumstances leading up to it would be different than in my head atm.

AND hes got goons? theyre not goo? i dig the change of pace of that. im not familiar with the poly au yet, but if you're open to ramble about Hesperus id like to hear about his interactions with his other (half?) siblings (if theyre in the same au that is i suppose) or even just his disposition with his parents, and if they're particularly supportive of his magic studies. Thank you first off. I'm really glad you're enjoying the sea monkey au and various other au's and ocs. Lots to talk about so, on to answering questions. Hermes is a fun character that I need to write more for honestly. He's not really a bad guy at heart. More like someone who has been through a lot of trauma and is going about different methods to prevent others from ending up the same way he had for about ten years.

He was originally a NASA test monkey, in a test capsule during the space race era. His capsule was not expected to come back. And it didn't. Hermes nearly died there as air was running out. Then some space deity came across him and on a whim, gave him his sentience and immortality.

That alone was traumatic, but the ten years in the games galaxy (which, is it's own whole thing I could get into) was just as traumatic if not worse. This place is where Hermes got a lot of his current followers.

Defeating him? There are ways. Trapping him in one place, and electricity does slow his responses. There is also his reaction if there's no air. Technically, he won't die with no air. But no air reminds him of that moment when he die almost die and he would fall into a terrible panic attack. I don't think the team would go for that tactic.

A lot of lore for a character that my original concept for was "villain that is a war lord but talks like he's from shows like "Leave it to Beaver".

Now, poly monkey's au (and sometimes poly monkeys soul bond au which is it's own thing) is the monkey members of the team all in a relationship. (Hermes occasionally involved. )

As for Hesperus, good questions. I think both his parents would be concerned at first. Gibson tries to make sense of Hesperus's system of finding new spells which seems to involve math and stars. But he doesn't quite get it.

He's probably one of he quieter kids. Get along well with Cooper ( Copper being the book smart son of Gibson and Otto ) and Eclipse ( Antauri and Mandarin kid, things he's the emo edge lord kid, he's actually the drama club kid) . Quasar ( Sprx/Nova kid that is clever, loves explosions and inventing things and full of mischief and being silly) always asking him about the explosives' spells.

And that's what I have on him for now. Hope you don't mind the big info dump. There is so much to talk about with these characters and aus. And thank you for asking about them.

An actual Doctor Who episode review post (gasp!)

Okay so I haven’t actually watched any New Doctor Who in at least a year (I think it was a year? Last new one I remember was the one with the time loop at the storage units so idk when that one was?) and I didn’t even know when Thirteen’s last episode was. But I happened to be channel flipping tonight and saw it was going to be on, so I figured I might as well watch it, since a new Doctor is a historic thing that any good Whovian should see at least once.

All I knew going in was that Tegan and Ace were gonna be in it, and the description said the Doctor faces Daleks, Cybermen, and the Master (oh my! lol), so I figured it would be overblown nonsense with lots of explosions, but at least it would be nice to see former companions again. 

The story itself WAS overblown nonsense with too many explosions, and there were lots of cliched moments. (If I had a nickel for every show/book/movie that had their bad guy secretly be Rasputin, or vice-versa, I’d be rich.)

BUT- despite all the overblown nonsense, it was nice to see Ace, and Tegan, and the other Doctors again. It was fun to hear them banter and not take themselves too seriously, and still save the day like they always did. It was nice to have little moments where Tegan got to see Five, and Ace got to see Seven. That stuff had more heart, and got me feeling more feelings, than the modern show has done in recent years.

And also the stuff with Graham got me a little, he was really the heart of the TARDIS fam, and I think maybe that’s why I couldn’t stay interested when bland Dan came aboard. 

So of course it would be Graham that actually started the former companions support group that we all joke about. I kind of didn’t want to feel feelings for a show that I’ve pretty much emotionally divested from at this point, but the minute I saw Ian Chesterton on my TV screen, that was it: ALL. THE. FEELS!!! And Jo! And Mel! These characters that I love so much, and never thought we’d see again on the actual show... here they were, and goddammit, new Doctor Who managed to make me feel things again!!! [insert sobbing here]

Even a tiny cameo was like acknowledgement that they created the legacy the show is carrying on today, that the stories of these characters are still important, and still have meaning for people all over the world. Maybe someday the Nuvians who don’t know who they were might discover their stories and love them as much as we do. But even if they don’t, getting those little cameos packed more of an emotional wallop for me than all the explosions and Daleks and ‘fate of the universe hanging in the balance’ stuff ever could. Doctor Who was, and is, always at it’s best when it’s about people. 

I really liked some of Thirteen’s episodes, and I’m sad that she didn’t have better material after her first season, because she was a really good Doctor. Having a woman Doctor did mean more to me than I’d expected. Being able to walk into a store and buy a replica Doctor coat that was made for me was a huge deal. To have the magical hero’s coat made for you makes you feel a bit like Superman. I hope little kids now will get the idea that they can be magical like the Doctor whether they’re girls or boys. Thank you, Jodie Whittaker, for making that possible.

I feel like 13 had a pretty decent regeneration, it wasn’t too drawn out with dramatic speeches, and her final shot on the cliff was pretty epic. The ending was silly, but I’m not unhappy about it. After how dull and serious the show can be sometimes, I wouldn’t mind a bit of David Tennant nonsense again before we meet the new Doctor. (I know, I know, I used to dislike Ten, but after Twelve, I take it back, Ten wasn’t that bad in comparison! lol)

So that’s it, my first Whovian episode review post in years! I guess once you’re in the Doctor Who fandom, you can never really get out. 

But honestly, that’s okay by me. <3

What was everyone like as kids or what are they like with children?

I've literally been WAITING for this one (what they're like with kids)!!!

I have. Thoughts.

How they are with children:

SO. Arthur isn't great with children at first but not in the way that he's mean to them?? Like he's really lovely and supportive and sweet (because subconsciously he can't imagine ever treating children the way he was treated as a child), he just doesn't know what to talk to them about or how to treat them. He's really bad at knowing what is appropriate for children of various ages. Like... can a five year old sensibly hold a full length sword? Yeah probably. Can a seventeen year old be told about the birds and the bees? ABSOLUTELY NOT ARE YOU A LUNATIC THAT IS A TODDLER??? But I feel like once exposed he picks it up really quickly. Like it only takes him a couple hours at most with a group of children for him to get a good handle on how to deal with them, even if internally he feels a little overwhelmed.

Merlin is one of two extremes and I can't make up my mind. Either he's INCREDIBLE with kids, like ultra paternal and sweet and doting, super responsible and knows exactly what children need/want at any time. OR he's the complete opposite. A child hugs him to thank him for like... saving the village from a magical beasty or curing his mother's flu and he just... freezes, arms up in the air, eyes wide, looking around desperately for help because... there is a child on him... it won't get off... what do I do... "uh... there there, uh... no problem... please can you... uh.... where's your mum? Go... go find your mum... please." which everyone else finds absolutely hilarious, because he's normally such a sweet and affectionate person but when it comes to anyone who is obviously below sixteen years old, he just... doesn't know what to do. To be honest, I do lean more towards the first option, but maybe he, as a bastard, wasn't allowed near other children back in Ealdor, and certainly wasn't treated like one by anyone other than his mother. BUT as a physician, and a generally caring person, he'd be gooooood. Who knows, really.

We already know that Morgana is really good with children, naturally so, though I think the first time a child like... cries, or throws a genuine tantrum, she'd definitely be thrown for a loop. It would take her a little practice (and she'd need to persuade herself as well, because she's so worried about being overly cruel) to figure out when it's time to stop coddling, and start being stern. But once she gets the hang of it she's an absolute whizz.

Gwen practically raised Elyan, but they were a poor family with a working father and no mother after a certain point, so I think maybe she's a little... not sterner, but stricter? She worries more, because she worried so much about Elyan when they were younger, it's kind of ingrained at this point. She's definitely intuitive to what a child wants/needs, because she didn't have much time whilst she was looking after Elyan, so she had to figure out what he wanted/needed as quickly as possible so she could move on to other things. But all of this isn't to say she isn't fun! She's cool and funny and playful!! Kids love her!! They just pick up on how stressed she is sometimes.

Percival is great with young children(like below ten)/toddlers/babies, but gets a little awkward when they hit teenage-hood. Not me latching onto the headcanon that the "family" that was killed by Morgana (except it was Morgause in pretty much all of my AUs because Morgana doesn't go evil if I AU hard enough) was a wife and young kids. But yeah, his kids never got to become teenagers, so he never had any practice, and has a tendency to talk to them as if they're younger than they are (and if you've never interacted with a teenager... that is a sure fire way to piss them off lol).

I feel like Leon is the opposite though. He's dealt with a LOT of squires over the years (including a sulky, arsehole, teenage Arthur) so he is a PRO at dealing with teenagers, but younger children? Nope! Don't get me wrong, he's nice to them, but he has utterly no concept of how to deal with them. I feel like if he has any siblings, he's the middle or eldest (he gives off middle sibling vibes, don’t ask me why) child, but they're all pretty close in age, which means no experience with people far younger than him. OR even if he does have siblings that are a lot younger, he came from a Noble family that would have had nannies and carers. So yeah. Teens? Incredible! Younger? Awkward.

Elyan is in the middle. He's not overly fond of children, certainly isn't ready for any himself and isn't sure he ever will be, but he's nice to them. I don't think anyone in the gang, even the ones who don't like children, are nasty to them, but Elyan certainly leaves any children to be dealt with by someone else, if at all possible. The older they get the better he gets, though he's definitely still awkward with teenagers, maybe because he's still pretty young, and has his older sister around, so he doesn't feel like he should be in charge of them?? It would be like putting a uni student in charge of a group of sixteen year olds. Like... yeah, there's an age gap, yeah, he's technically smarter and older and more experienced than them, but it's still... weird.

Gwaine fucking blows everyone away. He is AMAZING with children and nothing will ever persuade me otherwise. Everyone worries that he would be reckless and irresponsible, but he's so not. He is the perfect mix of fun, and stern; kids respect him and do what he says, when he tells them to stop doing something naughty for example. He tosses them about and plays boisterously with them, but after even a second of watching you can tell that everything he does is measured and well placed and the kids are never in any danger of being actually hurt. I don't know if this comes from experience with kids, or if he's just naturally good with them, but yeah. Kids love him, and everyone else is perpetually baffled at that fact that he genuinely knows what he's doing.

Lancelot I feel is kinda similar to Elyan, but he likes kids. He tries hard to be supportive and sweet and loving and comforting, but he's just a little awkward sometimes. He's desperate to be a father one day, and to have a big family, and I feel like once he's got his own kids he'll be a natural, but before then he just... misses the mark occasionally, only slightly (Merlin teases him relentlessly, Gwen thinks it's cute).

Mordred is still a baby himself, but Druid clans are very tight knit. In my mind he's like Merlin, in that I can't make up my mind on whether he's TERRIBLE or INCREDIBLE. We met Mordred as a kid and he was quiet and withdrawn and... not to be mean, but creepy. But he's such a sweet seventeen-ish year old, so who knows! Maybe he could've grown out of that creepiness really quickly. He's definitely weird with teenagers though, because he outranks most teenagers he meets, he's buddies with The King... but he himself is still a teen. So it’s a bit weird. When he gets older he’s definitely gentle and educational to kiddies. Arthur is his idol after all, and he remembers the way Arthur took him under his wing.

I feel like Gaius is... good with kids, but nothing exceptional; he’s no Gwaine or Percival or maybe-Merlin. He’s a physician, and likely had plans of having children before the purge, so he’s decent enough but he’s not a natural. It takes a bit of patience for him to be able to deal with them, especially when they’re not doing what they’re meant to. He can console a sick kid, but will mostly leave it to the parents/Merlin, and he can make kids laugh, but he doesn’t really play with them or entertain them or anything. He’s decent enough, good even, but he doesn’t really have the time or energy to be any better than that.

Katsuki really wished everyone would shut up about his kidnapping, it wasn’t something he wanted to think about right now, or ever if he was honest. So much had happened in the past few days and he was still struggling to process all of it, and the disgustingly warm welcome he’d received to the dorms wasn’t helping. It was gross. 

He’d shoved cash into Kirishima’s hand, rolling his eyes when he began to panic at the possibility that he’d taken it from Denki, shutting down the idea almost immediately.

And then he saw her.

Y/N was shoving past everyone and heading to him, and he couldn’t help the relief he felt when he saw her. Katsuki was grateful she hadn’t been involved in the little escape plan Deku had hatched out, but seeing her made him feel calmer than even as she practically tackled him, hands coming to his cheeks as she brought him into a kiss.

Their lips molded together perfectly, his hands coming to her sides and holding her like he’d never let go as her hands gripped his face rather harshly. It would have been the perfect moment, had the rest of his class not been there. 

Y/N seemed to disregard this as she pulled apart, eyes darting across his figure as his brows furrowed at her clear distress. “Calm down, idiot.” His cheeks are turning red as he realizes that everyone is staring, but he can’t help but focus his attention on her as he feels a wave of relaxation wash over him as she begins to run her hands all over him in search of injuries.

“Oh, I’m sorry, for caring about your wellbeing.” She grumbled, wrapping her arms tightly around his torso when her hands left his face. “Baby, you scared me.” His arms wrapped around her shoulders securely, as he rolled his eyes, though Katsuki wouldn’t deny he was appreciating all the attention she was giving him, he was beginning to feel embarrassed as he allowed her to hold onto him.

As if the kiss hadn’t been enough to astonish the rest of their class, the pet name simply amplified their shocked as they all cried out, “baby?” Kirishima had exchanged looks with Mina, who looked equally confused before returning their gaze to Katsuki, a look of betrayal evident on both their faces.

Stupid barbarians. “SHUT UP EXTRAS!” Katsuki exclaimed, holding Y/N tighter to his chest as his cheeks flushed red, he could hear her laugh against his chest. “Can’t a guy hug his girlfriend in peace.” 

“GIRLFRIEND?”

He was grateful for the subject change, though he didn’t appreciate the fact that his relationship had been exposed, until he looked back to Y/N, who beamed at him. 

If she was happy then it was fine he supposed. 

SHINSOU HITOSHI

so ever since the two of you first started hanging, there have been people criticizing you for befriending him at all, because of his quirk, they just cannot believe that the Y/N L/N is hanging out with Shinsou Hitoshi

but also, ever since the two of you started hanging out, the bullying has lessened immensely, most because you threatened everyone it was really subtle, but they got the message

anyways, you two are probably hanging out again, and it’s been a while since you got one of those comments, which is the main reason this one sets you off.

shinsou was used to this, and your violent reactions, so he immediately brought a hand to your arm to ensure you didn’t commit a murder, shaking his head at you

and without breaking eye contact with them, you grab Shinsou’s face, earning stares from everywhere in the cafeteria, and then kiss him

he did not anticipate this um, you kinda caught him by surprise with this one, he genuinely did not think it was possible for you to feel this way for him

when you pull away, the kiss is almost like magic

you don’t mess with Y/N’s friends, much less their boyfriend

When Y/N beams up at Shinsou, he can’t help the way his heart skips a beat. It’s ridiculous, he knows this, and he hates that he can’t prevent it. Shinsou is no fool, he knows Y/N L/N, a UA student that could potentially be a member of the Top Ten heroes in the future, would never like him. He wouldn’t be shocked if she befriended him entirely out of pity, given how students used to treat him prior to their unlikely friendship. She’d weaseled her way into his life, despite his attempts to avoid her, ignore her, and even tell her off, she’d stuck around. 

And yes, Shinsou had made the mistake of liking her. On days like this, he’d entertain the possibility that Y/N liked him back, because sometimes she hugged him for longer than average friends did, or maybe she’d press a kiss to his cheek, or even hold his hands.

That was probably just something best friends did.

“Hitoshi! Don’t you know what this means?” She exclaimed, hands finding their way onto his shoulders in the middle of the cafeteria.

Yes, she used his first name.

Shinsou rolled his eyes, trying to keep himself from getting flustered purely because her hands were on him, “Y/N it’s not a big deal, and besides-”

“We’re going to be in the same class!” Her hands move from his shoulders to around them as she pulls him into a hug, “I’m so proud of you.”

He’s shocked that she’s saying these things, and its clear she has more confidence in him than he does. Aizawa had offered him daily training to get him onto the same level as the other Class 1-A students, and he’d be joining them the next semester, assuming everything went well. “It’s no guarantee.” He mumbles, wrapping his arms around her torso.

Shinsou felt Y/N swat his back as she pulled away slightly, much to his dismay, “you’re so talented! Of course, he’s gonna let you in.” 

She sounded so sure, and Shinsou felt his heart swell with pride. 

He moves to speak, only to be interrupted by a passerby, “L/N. Come on, quit hanging out with that freak.” Y/N recognized him, James, he’d bothered Shinsou before, and he’d tried to get Y/N to stop hanging out with Shinsou and been unsuccessful. “He’s just gonna ruin your chances at becoming a pro.”

Y/N pulls away slightly from Shinsou, her brows are furrowed as she moves to confront him, only for Shinsou to grab her arm, shaking his head. “Don’t.”

Turning to glare at the guy, Y/N scoffed, “is this because I rejected you?” 

“He asked you out?” Shinsou asked, but Y/N gave him a look that said they’d discuss it later. She could remember the day vividly, he’d asked shortly after she returned from hanging out with Shinsou, telling her she could do so much better, and so much better meant him. 

She disagreed. And now Y/N couldn’t help but feel bothered as their argument begins to draw attention from others within the cafeteria, she can see in the corner of her eye that Izuku has come to a stand. Though Iida is grasping his shoulder to try and prevent him from doing anything irrational, they all knew Y/N could stand on her own. 

James scoffed at her words, “you probably rejected me because he made you.” The implications were dark, the idea that Shinsou had forced Y/N to befriend him and reject James, though he’d never used his quirk on her and swore he never would. 

Shinsou found himself releasing Y/N’s arm, taking a step backwards as he sighed, only for her to grab his hand and yank him closer before taking his face in her hands and kissing him.

She was kissing him.

Oh.

Shinsou’s mind empties as Y/N pulls away, turning back to James as she says, “my boyfriend doesn’t need to make me do anything.” And the boy practically stomps off in frustration, grumbling about Shinsou’s stupid quirk or something of that sort. Not that either of them are paying attention as Y/n brings a hand to the back of her neck awkwardly, searching her mind for an explanation.

“Boyfriend?” His voice is soft, small, and he knows there are other people in the cafeteria but he can’t bring himself to care about their stares. 

Y/N turns to him, and she feels her cheeks warm as she tries to avoid his eyes, “well. Only if you want to-”

“I want to.” Shinsou replies too quickly, his cheeks flushing.

Y/N nods, “cool.” 

“Cool.” 

Izuku can’t help but beam as he watches the interaction, hitting Iida’s arm repetitvely as as he exclaims, “does this mean I’ll be able to study his quirk more?”

Tsu just sighs, “this means we don’t have to listen to her pining anymore.” 

TODOROKI SHOUTO

THIS ONE

probably the most relaxed about it, not flustered at all, you tried thoughh

your relationship isn’t really a secret, it’s just that neither of you are that into PDA. 

there will be occasional cuddling on the common room couch of the dorms during movie night, but that’s seen as normal to the rest of Class 1-A. during dates, there will be hand holding, a kiss on the cheek, an arm around the shoulder, otherwise most of the intimacy is reserved for your rooms

this lack of PDA is why class 1-A was completely unaware that the two of you were dating, 

though you hadn’t tried to hide it, you also hadn’t made it entirely public, you also lowkey thought everyone knew.

mostly because it was so blatantly obvious that shoto was in love with you, but the entire class thought he was unaware of his own feelings and you were just oblivious 

oh how wrong they were

you come into class one day and you see shoto and you’re just like lol hi babe and you kiss him, he kisses back, LIKE IT IS THE MOST NORMAL THING

he’s temporarily caught off guard because like i said you two don’t really do PDA, but he digs it, 10/10 would kiss you again in front of everyone, mostly because after all of the CHAOS that this kiss causes, the other boys in the class stop blatantly flirting with you

the class erupts into PURE CHAOS

so much yelling and screaming, they are so confused, have fun explaining that one

shoto is equally confused as to why they are confused and you’re just laughing because you knew this would mess with their heads. he ends up getting a little flustered by all the sudden attention the two of you are getting, but maintains his apathetic attitude.

Shoto places his bag beside his desk before pulling his things out one by one to place them onto the desk along with the small cup of coffee. Shoto wasn’t really the coffee type himself, he preferred tea, Y/N on the other hand had an obsession if he was honest. Of course, he enabled this obsession, he liked being the one to bring a smile onto her face. 

Yeah, he was whipped.

He could tell when Y/N entered the room because the atmosphere seemed to change entirely, she seemed to brighten everyone’s mood despite how early it was. Greeting their other classmates, she began to move towards him, seeing that he was holding a cup of coffee, Y/N raised a brow. “You drink coffee now?” She asked as she placed her things down. 

Shaking his head, Shoto extended the hand with the cup of coffee towards him, “it’s for you.” He explained, small smile on his face.

The rest of their classmates watched the interaction, Kirishima punching Kaminari’s arm as he exclaimed, “so manly!”

Bakugou scoffed from beside the both of them, “if he was really manly then maybe he’d actually ask her out.” Crossing his arms, he averts his eyes from the two, finding the class’s obsession with their relationship a tad ridiculous. Though everyone seemed to be at least slightly invested in the potential outcome at this point. 

“Whatever, Bakugo.” Mina says, “L/N has the prettiest boy in class wrapped around her finger- ugh! I want someone to love me like that.” She places her head in her hand, brows furrowing as she stares at the two. Y/N is smiling widely at Shoto, who returns her smile with one of his own. 

And then Y/N kisses him. As though this is an everyday thing. 

Mina practically jumps out her seat, and though Bakugo would never admit it, his mouth gaped open in shock as she cried out, “did you two just kiss?!”

Shoto’s cheeks are red as they pull away, though his face remains apathetic as he looks to the ground and Y/N replies, “can I not kiss my boyfriend?” She tilts her head in confusion, laughing slightly at the outburst and the clear shock in everyone’s faces. 

“Boyfriend?” Hagaruke cried out. “Why didn’t you tell us?!”

Y/N’s brows furrows as she looks to the rest of the astonished class, “did you guys seriously not know? I thought we were obvious, I literally call him by his first name-”

“We thought that was because you two were madly in love with each other but neither could confess!” Momo exclaimed suddenly, her cheeks flaming red at her outburst as she slaps a hand over her mouth.

Mina simply nods in agreement, “exactly! But now he’s buying you coffee and-”

Shoto shakes his head in confusion, “I often buy her coffee, normally she finishes it before we get to class.” He looks to Y/N, a small frown on her face, “today she woke up too late for me to walk her to school so I couldn’t give it to her then-”

“You’re so manly, Todoroki!” Kirishima exclaims, though Shoto simply looks at him in confusion as he removes his hand from Y/N’s waist. 

Shrugging, he takes a seat at his desk and Y/N speaks once more, “I just don’t understand how you guys didn’t know.” Standing beside him as he organizes his things while seated, Y/N runs a hand through his hair, and Shoto’s cheeks seemed to redden once more.

“You guys aren’t normally so touchy!” Uraraka has joined the conversation, shock clear in her features. 

Shoto nods in agreement,  “your behavior today is abnormal, Y/N.”

Now Y/N can feel her cheeks warm as she removes her hand and takes a seat t her desk, “you guys are weird.”

Izuku simply sighs, deflating almost as he watches the interaction and leans over towards Iida, “now I owe Kacchan money.”
