As a child, the approval of our parents is integral to our desire to achieve. As adults though, being a hyper-achiever can have drawbacks if we lack focus and clarity. Take a moment. Disengage with the need to achieve. Consider asking yourself: am I doing this for my benefit? Or for the ability to show others what I can do? Will my efforts move me closer to my own goals?

All the flowers of all the tomorrows are in the seeds of today. -Chinese proverb It’s been a tough two months! After causing much distress by slowing down on me to absurd levels, my iMac finally decided to throw in the towel and properly die off. I’ve recovered. Thankfully everything was backed up, and I’m now working on my laptop, attached to the Wacom Cintiq … which seems to be trundling along really well and the only problem is getting the colours right. But I’m finally getting back into art mode again which is a relief as I’ve missed it. First things first, after two whole months here’s the final page for the pieces that I’m doing for PAWA. It’s taken a while to get there but I’ve now completed all 10. I’m still trying to figure out the way forward with art, so will continue exploring and experimenting and diving into wonderfully messy therapeutic spaces along the way. I don’t have a plan, I’m just going to flow ... Another thumbnail sketch, uh a little bigger...guessing I needed to get the message. Should this be made into an even bigger painting? Lol.I haven’t felt lonely in probably 3 days but I’m sure it’ll be back around. There’s some stigma associated with admitting loneliness. But I think it’s healthy. I’m human. And when I name it for myself then I can address the need to reconnect with myself...if I think it’s about needing something outside myself, it’s called projection or transference. Posted @withrepost • @mellow.doodles My self worth has been wrapped up in my achievements and “success” since I was a little girl. I was pretty academic so I think this idea of achievement equalling worthiness soon cemented in my brain. ⁣ ⁣ This is all well and good if you do pretty well at school - but then adulthood hits and so does reality. And it’s a big, nasty shock. Because that’s not how being an adult works. We’re not in a classroom with a set answer to every question life throws at us. And it’s much more of a rollercoaster ride that we have to get used to riding. ⁣ ⁣ I still thrive off “achievements”, things going well or milestones. And I still think it’s really important to celebrate them too. I just have to be really careful now that I don’t tie my sense of worthiness up in that. Because even if a to do list isn’t being ticked and your bank account isn’t looking healthy, the internal stuff that makes you a valuable human being still exists. And that’s what makes you YOU - the person that you should be proud of everyday. 'It’s a new day . outside the box' A quick one. Playing. Allowing simple thoughts and new, different ideas to emerge … which is far more difficult than it sounds! But it’s time for that change: to experiment with a new way of thinking, seeing, a fresh way of looking at things. A lightness of being. Humour. I wasn’t really sure of what I was doing here, so I first very lightly drew the flowers and boxes and then picked the paintbrush up and just allowed things to flow.
