Astarion girlies, would it be a reach to write him having a bit of Claustrophobia?

I feel like after he spent a year trapped barely alive in a coffin, he'd have just a touch of claustrophobia or a fear of being in any sort of small confined space.

I've been thinking a lot about how in an early version of the game you originally had to roll persuasion to get Astarion out of the pod because he was afraid of the sun....and the possibility of him being just....out of his mind terrified when you find him ((much like when you find a feral cat in a dangerous situation and you have to calm them down to take care of them))

i just think its interesting to entertain the idea of him waking up from the nautilod crash in a pod alone freaking out bc he has to choose between being burned alive by the sun ((bc he doesnt know it wont hurt him yet)) or feeling the crushing walls of a mindflayer pod crushing around him and then he breaks out, realizes the sun isn't hurting him, and sees Tav and freaks the hell out and attacks them because he's just Confused and Scared

lets talk about sean macguire, or more specifically, his none-existent recovery and how it affected him before his death.

so as we all know, sean is captured by bounty hunters after the blackwater ship robbery goes horribly wrong. it’s confirmed in a side mission that he was tortured for information, most likely because ike skelding and his crew wanted to be the ones to bring dutch in as well, but he specifically mentions how they burnt his feet and pulled his teeth.

lets start with the affect of them pulling his teeth: it doesn’t take a genius to know ike skeldings bounty hunters are not fully trained dentists with numbing cream and injects, nor did they actually care about any of the long-lasting damage they were doing to sean, since they assumed he’d be getting hung and wanted to have their fun with him. that was the whole point, to torture him because any teeth related pain, i think we can all agree, is the worst of the worst. afterwards, he is seen struggling to eat, i think at least multiple people online have said they have noticed how he will only have one or two bites, or even none at all, and pour away the mostly full stew. i haven’t bothered to focus on anyone else’s eating habits, if im being honest, but i think i really picked up on seans because of the fact hes trying to eat with missing and likely damaged teeth. as we know, no one in camp really bothers to ask him if he’s okay or pick up on this, but this is not surprising as after all they are just codes and scripts and no voice actor has the time to record their characters entire life.

next, the feet burning: the fact they burnt his feet implies to me and gives me the idea that he was hanging from his arms at some point in his time of being captured and they had pretty clear access to his feet (ew). in camp, i did actually notice him walking funny like he was drunk, then having completely sober dialogue while limping along. though of course this game is not without its faults and glitches, and dialogue getting messed up is, in my opinion, one of the most experienced ones throughout the entire game, so perhaps this was him being drunk and accidentally having sober dialogue. but im going to pretend its because they burnt his feet.

his none-existent recovery: i actually spoke about this on a different platform, and compared the recovery that arthur had to the one sean had, which they both deserved, and lets just say some people disagreed. according to them, a party is good enough! despite the fact, sean needs to heal, or at least get the chance to see a doctor, and a party is literally the opposite of healing time. he has just been kidnapped, certain he wasn’t going to make it, getting tortured, and mentally that’s going to fuck with you. but again, no one in camp really cares or notices and he doesn’t get to really actually recover from that. obviously sean was not upset about getting a party in the slightest, dont get me wrong, but for other users to claim that’s all he needs while we’re discussing it just seems a little weird to me. and something that has always upset me is the way he is immediately put back to work, that is what i mean when i say he does not get to recover properly, he is straight back on guard duty. and we all know guard duty involves being on your feet for hours, which is especially bad for poor sean who has just had his feet burnt. seriously, give my man a break (NEWSFLASH: A PARTY IS NOT A BREAK IN THIS SITUATION)

12/8/24 [draft from yesterday — monday. key & significant photos at end]

woke up at a reasonable time due to my sister waking me up. i went out to see boris and stayed out with him for quite a long time. however i came inside every now and then to watch my sister play fnaf security breach. she got somewhere near up to the point where you get a fazz blaster and are then able to stun animatronics. i was feeling sick because my eyes were strained and my neck/back felt weird so i had a nap at 1. i woke up at 3:30, scrolled on mcrblr/a mcr community and then continued watching my sister game at 4.

i don’t mind watching her play games that i’m into. its a shame i’m so painfully bad at actually playing them, though, because otherwise i’d do that instead. id love to play fnaf4, or the evil within, or something. i once again stopped watching her [6] to look through pinterest. it seemed as if she wanted to game with her new friend anyways. i scrolled through a few photography related posts and saved a few more diy ideas. somewhere around this time, my mum and her friends came back from afternoon lunch. i only got prompted to get dressed into actual clothes once i heard them come through the door. my sister started briefly speaking to me.

i went out of my room for a few minutes before they came into the living room, and when i came back i found her dressed in my clothes, trying to put on my silver studded belt. i helped her put it on, then she left and got into my dark green cargos [im gunna be wearing these so much because of the heat, i despise summer], my sleeping with sirens ‘feel’ shirt, and various band bracelets and studded/spiked cuffs. i saved some baking inspo and eventually came out into the living room and greeted them.

they brought up how i used to write novels [anyone i haven’t seen in ages does] and i told them about my new thing, journaling. i usually see two of the three women that came over, but one of them brought her twin. she was really, really friendly. they’re all quite loud together but i dont think i minded seeing them. one of them apparently asked my mum if i’m emo which is funny to me, although i take it as a compliment — at least i’m easily identifiable. they started asking if i made the bracelets i was wearing, the answer being no for the most part, so my mum told me to show them the kandi i’ve made. i showed them my most recent 3D cuffs and they spoke about it for a long time. while them and my parents spoke, i got 8x a ruler length of elastic ready for my can tab bracelet.

they left at 7 and i waved them off while outside on the driveway with boris. i didn’t get the chance to make the can tab bracelet afterwards like i’d originally thought, as my parents recommended all of us [me, them and my sister] to on a walk. i obviously agreed but my sister didn’t want to go and got really stubborn and had an argument with my parents because she didn’t want to go; or be home alone, but my parents and i persisted and told her we want to keep/be healthy. she eventually gave in, not willingly, and we went to the ‘london’ field almost opposite our house. i had a blackberry from the bushes and picked a few for my sister. they were ridiculously sour, i couldn’t keep it in my mouth.

once we’d walked down to the bottom of the field and then a quarter way back up, my dad started getting attacked by flying ants. at one point, there was at least 25 swarming his neck. we all found it really funny because he was the only one being targeted. they finally went away after a lot of my sister’s professional shirt pulling skills and once we’d gotten back to the top of the field. i was literally gasping for air again because the grass still makes you feel like your walking through snow. we got home at 9 and i cuddled boris. my mum came out to throw some food out for the foxes and i had the chance to show her the decently big spiders swarming the wooden sleepers outside.

she came back in and i got myself some low cal crackers before sitting back next to boris. i had my phone flashlight on my food incase any bugs snacked on it but i ended up attracting three spiders over. they circled around my feet and i decided to go back inside as i’d finished my crackers, it was cold, and i didn’t feel great about not really knowing if the spiders were on me or not. [very low quality photo of spider at end]. don’t get me wrong, i love spiders. i’m just not keen when they come out of nowhere/big ones crawl all over me without it being on purpose. i went back onto mcrblr and screenshotted photos from my concert videos for my previous, previous, previous journal.

i went up to my parents room to chat for a short while and ask questions about boris. while up there, i searched for the group concert photo the black charade took at the concert. i found it and showed my parents the picture of me and my dad in the crowd. Reading your posts about the r*se christo book was a bit harrowing--she did not give any sort of shit about respecting the Cree or even trying to tell a story without falling back on stale tropes. I'm so sorry. Authors like that make me wonder how best to approach Native people for research on my own book (which isn't about *being* Indigenous, one of the protags just happens to be Native), because if I do it clumsily I imagine they'll think "oh god another vulture" and that'll be entirely understandable. So if Christo were a different person and better writer, how would she have gone about this? Should she have called a Cree tribal office or Cree-run museum/cultural center and requested interviews (while offering to pay interviewees of course)? Should she have contacted a Cree college professor/phd student and explained that she wants to speak with Cree people for her book so she gets everything as correctly as possible?

I mean, the easiest way would've been for her to firstly research the actual historical event the book is based on, and then get a Cree (or multiple) sensitive readers & Beta readers to look through her work, even doing that wouldve vastly improved the thing. But there's shit in there that is just so embarrassingly wrong that Junior High Canadian students could have done better if they'd attempted it with no research. It also wouldn't have killed her to find an accurate Cree dictionary to keep the spelling consistent, or hire an actual Cree speaker to translate things for her, and to make sure she was actually getting things right. I also had an advantage in the critique of this book because I'm Cree, a descendant of the title character, & i also have oral history knowledge on the events, but even a lot of the plot of this book is easily researchable & available in books or fucking GOOGLE.

Im not really gunna go super into depth about what she could've done to actually make this work, because I also think at least some part of her knew what she was writing was inaccurate but she just decided to so that it would fit what she wanted to write anyway. Ayimisîs & Asiniwin were friends, yes, but they weren't gay or in love, but I dont think she cared about that (& I think she might fetishize gay Native men just from how she wrote about them). This book was a mixture of her not doing enough research (not by half), and the other half was her making up shit just because she didn't care or didn't want to, but wanted it to fit what she wanted for the book. Any amount of effort past briefly glancing at Wikipedia would have been more effort than what Christo had put in for this.
