I think part of the reason why Ten and Donna's relationship is so compelling to me is that they share the same main character flaw. In RTD's memoir, he described how he created each of the main companions with a central character flaw. Rose was selfish, Martha was selfless to the point of self-denial, and Donna was self-absorbed. And while all of those flaws were mirrored in Ten in different ways, I think Ten's central flaw was, like Donna, being incredibly self-absorbed.

While I don't dispute that Ten could be arrogant and vain, I think the degree to which he was those things sometimes get exaggerated. Every Doctor has had instances where they behaved arrogantly, as if they were the ultimate authority in the room and were owed everyone's attention and even unquestioned obedience. Many Doctors have preened over their looks or boasted about their intelligence and their achievements, whether as a strategic move or (more often) just because they felt like reminding everyone they were the smartest person around. Arrogance and vanity are recurring character traits across many of the Doctor's regenerations, and while Ten has displayed them more loudly and infamously than other Doctors, I think the unique flaw that better defines this regeneration's character was his propensity for getting completely caught up in himself.

Consistently throughout this regeneration, he ignored or just failed to recognize other people's needs because he was so preoccupied with his own issues. Infamously with Martha, but also with most of his companions past and present at some point (Sarah Jane, Mickey, Jack, Donna) and certainly with countless ordinary people that got caught up in the danger around him. The thing that makes this self-absorption rather than callousness or deliberate cruelty is that it wasn't because he considered unimportant. Ten frequently affirmed how important every life was and how valuable the most ordinary life was, and he really believed it. But as much as he believed it, he constantly struggled with the practice, with prioritizing ordinary people when he himself was embroiled in turmoil (whether active danger or his own personal issues). He believed fundamentally that each life had value and importance; he just saw whatever he was going through or doing at the moment as having even more value and more importance.

Ten didn't lack compassion for others. Indeed, he felt very strongly for people who were in distress and regularly put himself at risk to try and help them. But he often struggled to look beyond himself - his own concerns and demons and ego and fears. If someone's needs or feelings align with his own or seem to be relevant to the issue at hand? Good! He'll try to help if he can. But if someone's needs clash with his own, or their opinions challenge his own view, or their feelings push uncomfortably against his own emotional state? All of a sudden, he's very busy, he becomes rude and dismissive, he clams down, he acts ignorant, and if all else fails, he runs away.

The Chamelon arch storyline in "Human Nature"/"Family of Blood" is incredibly fascinating because John Smith embodied the Doctor's self-absorption on a much more recognizable, human scale. He was happy to be benevolent and kind when people acted within the sphere of what he knew. As a teacher, he recognized when a brilliant student was downplaying his intelligence to avoid attention from school bullies, and he tried to encourage Timothy within the bounds of what a teacher could do. But when people started disrupting his own little world of happiness -particularly Martha or his students interrupting romantic moments with Joan- then he became curt and dismissive and even more obstinate about his preferred way of things. All things that the Doctor also does, but which we notice less because he's usually the perspective we're rooting for to solve everything and save the day so is it really a big deal if he's rude towards another character? And then there's the original act of self-interest that Joan calls the Doctor out on at the end - he brought death and destruction to this village that he chose on a whim, without thinking of anyone else, all because he personally didn't want to confront the Family even though he was capable of stopping them.

All this to say that this flaw is part of what makes his relationship with Donna so compelling to watch. You have these two fundamentally self-absorbed characters on a journey together and they inspire each other to start doing better than they were before. They're growing together in the same direction with each other and because of each other. Donna, seeing the whole wide universe with all the good and the bad of it, realizing not only how small her worldview has been until now but then reaching out to make connections with people she wouldn't have given the time of day to before. The Doctor, absorbed with all his own burdens and traumas and memories and promises, being furiously and desperately shouted at by his best friend to do something. Save someone. It doesn't matter how small the act or how insignificant they are in the greater scheme of things. Never mind the greater scheme. Never mind us, never mind you. Just look at the person suffering in front of you now and help them.

Idk if this is silly, but when I see people in their early twenties who are desperate to find their “person” and “start their life” in that way I just want to shake them and be like oooomg shut up you have so much fucking time and please enjoy every moment you can have for yourself without another person even in the picture. Please just learn about yourself without enmeshing yourself with someone else and make yourself the biggest priority of all!! This Is How We Will Own 2023:

We're less than a month away from the New Year, and as such, it is important that we begin to set the foundations and plans we have to not only succeed, but make 2023 a memorable year.

Regardless of how 2022 went for you, regardless of how many goals you were able to achieve, a new year marks a new beginning. Do not beat yourself over how things went, focus on how you can improve them moving forward.

In 2023 we're:

Spending less time being passive scrollers online. The pandemic is over, the world is back in action and so must we. It's time to stop letting our minds be consumed by the opinions of thousands of people on the internet. More often than not, the things we read online come from the psyche of mentally unwell individuals, and given social media's tendency to prompt out the voices of the most unhinged, it gives people that shouldn't have a platform a false sense of authority. In 2023 we're getting off the grid as much as we can and reconnecting with the real world. We will not allow this online façade to swallow us into its void any longer.

Spending more time learning and engaging in high-end activities and hobbies that can elevate our social circle and our taste. Things like polo matches, pilates, ballet, opera, piano classes, poetry, political forums, martial arts, and high-intensity sports, among other things. It is crucial to cultivate a persona that engages in a variety of fulfilling activities that can bring us joy but also help us grow as individuals.

Prioritizing our health and fitness. No more excuses, it's time to cut down on added sugar and refined carbs, time to eat more nutrient-dense whole foods, drink plenty of water daily, invest in vitamin injections every other month, take supplements to improve our body's collagen production, and overcome feelings of laziness by pushing ourselves through fitness goals. 2023 we will make of the gym our sanctuary.

Living below our budget and investing as much as we can. If you haven't already, get a financial advisor, develop long and short-term financial goals and get organized with your income. It doesn't matter if in the past you've felt like your financial habits have not been the most adequate, it's never too late to take control of them and be responsible. We owe to ourselves to spend wisely to have the peace of mind financial security brings. Never go broke trying to impress others.

We're no longer entertaining inadequate men. I must admit I'm guilty of this myself. After years of not dating, getting back into the dating scene has felt extremely disappointing and tiring. Most prospects are simply not up to par with the standards I have and what I want out of my life partner. Sometimes we allow ourselves to become desperate to build these types of romantic relationships that we begin to overlook the things that we really want deep down. In 2023, we're refocusing our attention on living our best lives and being as active as possible in real-life events as touched upon previously, and trust that the right dating prospects will present themselves when we least expect. We attract, we don't chase.

Finally, we're overcoming negative self-talk patterns that hinder our growth. We're investing in therapy, we're unlearning the limiting beliefs that keep us in bondage to people, routines, and views of the world that are not good for us. We have to put an end to the insidious lie of the scarcity mindset, overcome past traumas, and look forward to the good things that are yet to come.

There are many more things I could add to this list, but for now, these are the things I and I know many of you will find helpful on improving on for the year to come. These lists can come out as intimidating to some people, but we have to remember that we are not expected to become the ideal version of ourselves overnight. Growth is a marathon, not a sprint, and it requires consistency. Each day that you wake up and choose to do one or two things differently you're making stride towards that better you. No improvement is ever too little.

Let's make 2023 a memorable year, and every year afterwards.

But, slowly, he starts to realize that having someone who truly cares for him doesn’t weaken him; it actually strengthens his resolve.

He won’t be the type to express his feelings through long, romantic speeches. Instead, Zoro shows his love through quiet acts of devotion. He sharpens his partner’s blades if they’re a swordsman too, or he makes sure they always have food when they’re training or recovering from a fight. He won’t say much, but the way he instinctively moves to protect them in battle speaks louder than words ever could. He’ll also try harder to stay awake when they’re together—something that’s not easy for him, considering his nap habits.

Zoro doesn’t change in the flashy sense, but he becomes more aware of his surroundings. He’s always been protective of his crew, but now he’s fiercely protective of his partner, though he trusts them to fight their own battles. He still gets lost constantly, but now he finds himself checking over his shoulder to make sure they’re nearby. If they’re separated, he feels an unfamiliar twinge of discomfort until they’re reunited. His pride may prevent him from admitting it outright, but he values their presence more than he lets on.

In private moments, Zoro’s surprisingly tender. He’ll lie back with them in the crow’s nest or under the stars, his hands resting behind his head, and let them curl up against him. It was just a relationship, he didn’t need to fret over it for too long

He tried moving forward and simply sticking to his routine

Yoo Joonghyuk x Reader; A story of two regressors

Haha didn’t think I would do ORV? Y’all I need more orv fics, HUGE novel spoilers so beware, but no explicit spoilers so if you are only WEBTOON reader and have no context of the novel you may end up confused, I will write novel free version, and it will be available later this week or next week so stay tuned!

You both were the same, yet different

The both of you had been given the skill “regression,” and thus you both had agreed to be companions, before Kim Dokja appeared followed by a noticeable Han Sooyoung. Beforehand it was just the two of you, the both of you bled together and teamed up in the previous regressions, the two of you wholly relied on each other and swore to always to keep the other in check, regardless of how far along you would be.

When you both met, it was your 0th turn and his first turn. You both were in different cabs and came out of the train, along with Kim Namwoom and Lee Hyunsung. Eventually meeting Lee Jihye and recruiting her aswell saving Lee Seolhwa from Anitus. You barely recall what had happened in that regression aside from bonding with the crew and having a playful relationship with Yoo Joonghuk, you teased him a lot, trained with him, and the two of you became each others support, each others weight. Was that to say the two of you were romantically involved? No, both of you were prioritizing your survival and plus, Yoo Joonghyuk had his little sister to protect. Regardless, you bonded over your power aswell as the fact that you would see each other again in the next life, until your quick end came within a few scenarios.

When you woke in your 1st regression, you recall Joonghyuk calling for you, clearly a bit disheveled, you were happy to see he also was sent back, but sad when you realised your old companions weren’t. It was hard, you couldn’t reminisce with Jihye about the early scenarios, couldn’t bring up the funny moments with Namwoon, or even small talks with Hyunsung unless they happened again…but even if it did they…felt so different. You recalled how Joonghyuk was a bit colder in that round, but still a bit hopeful nonetheless, and then the both of you were approached by Anna Croft, where you found suspicion, he took the offer she gave, an offer to save the world.

Once again Lee Seolhwa was in your group except her relationship with Joonghyuk was much more…comfortable I suppose. You thought you had seen his eyes linger on her on the previous round, and now you were sure because it was clear he had feelings for her. You often told him not to let his feelings take over, for they were in the middle of survival and loving someone would just be tragic, yet he continued to love, and while you warned him for his own good you couldn’t help but feel…petty.

You watched as they would eventually get married, and eventually they even were going to have a child, and while you supported them every step of the way your heart continued to ache, and then Anna Croft betrayed you all. You recall how Joonghyuk cried when his sister died, he looked to desperate at that time, but when Seolhwa and his unborn child died he went mad, so mad that he accidentally killed you, but even as you were dying you held on him tight, hugging him, apologising for being weak and promising you will be there in the next round. By the time he was able to snap out of it he cradled your body, and for the last time he cried, and then it all went black.

When you met in the next regression, his third one, everything that you had gone through felt so…distorted, it was as if after all of that time you went through hundreds if not thousands of regressions ahead rather than just one… but when you met Joonghyuk who looked rather shaken but closed off completely you confirmed it was the 3rd round, after all if it wasn’t the third round what round would it be, a secret unknown round hundreds of rounds ahead?

This round was much different, he considered you his companion but he was so cold, he monopolised what he could and was different from before, but it was understandable considering what he had went through. On top of that not only was Kim Namwoon dead and other people had survived, a suspicious man named Kim Dokja also appeared and had known the future. It was interesting, he knew of Yoo Joonghyuk but when he looked at you he seemed confused, and he was pale when Joonghyuk said you were his companion of his last two rounds despite Dokjas offer, but it wasn’t as if it was because you had taken the offer, it was if you were an anomaly, a glitch in the system, something that wasn’t supposed to exist, or maybe he didn’t know you existed as he seemed confused about your presence. It was different for you as you seemed to have recognized him, you never seemed to have met him but he looked so…familar. He wanted to help, but the last time Joonghyuk trusted someone both of you died horribly, so he tested him by throwing him off the bridge and sure enough, he proved himself through the scenarios.

It was the three of you until Han Sooyoung came along, another woman along with Sangah, Heewon, and Gilyoung who looked familar…it made you think every time you were stumped, but you guys remained close nonetheless. You would train, laugh when Kim Dokja did something to irritate him, and Joonghyuk would try his best to comfort you when you felt like you were gonna go into the regression depression just as you would with him(Though Kim Dokja was the one who would help the most.) There were times where he would even doze off near you, times where he would cook for you and times he would leave you with Yoo Mia, and if either of you “rested your eyes” on each others shoulder, nobody would say a word.

“Do you think this time we will make it to the end?” He asked you surprisingly, you thought his optimism was gone but it seemed that he still had hope left. “I don’t want to get our hopes up but…we have Kim Dokja so I’m sure we will be fine…” You trailed off, but he knew you were worried, he patted your head as he took his leave out of the base. Strange, he didn’t do that ever in this round…

Kim Dokja always took the lead rather than Joonghyuk this time around, and you were grateful as he always protected every one (at the expense of his safety unfortunately, which you would bonk him over the head for.) But even so, the way he always looked at you was so…off, it wasn’t jealousy, in fact Han Sooyoung who often was with Dokja in terms of plans even looked at you confused and suspiciously, it was as if you had never existed beside Yoo Joonghyuk, which couldn’t be true, you were in Joonghyuk previous regressions right? They knew Jihye, Hyunsung, Seolhwa, aswell as others and knew how things worked, and yet when it came to you… perhaps it was some prank as the two were always together, it had to be right? After all you were in the last [redacted] regressions-

“Wait, what did I just say..?” You thought as you blacked out

you were in a dark abyss, but you could hear voices around you, some were panicked and others were calm, and a huge amount of memories flooded through you, yet you couldn’t pick through any of them, they were all distorted, and suddenly you heard a deep but clear voice.

“A shame really,” the deep voice said as you felt a gloved hand stroke your cheek, “after all of those rounds of suffering, I’m left to see him reap the rewards? A companion who could regress despite the presence being non existent before hand.” What? “And a companion who knows the future, and yet that person remains as arrogant and ungrateful as ever.” He wasn’t referring to you, he was referring to that person. You wanted to see who was infront of you, or seemed to be in front of you, but the hands moved from you cheek to your eyes and covered it as your body, “relax,” the voice said somewhat gently, “you will be back with HIM soon.” As you felt your body becoming more relaxed and heavy, you heard him mention that person again, aswell as some mumbling, but there was one sentence you could hear from him clearly, and from the direction of his voice you knew it wasn’t towards you, but towards that person again, and his voice carried both resentment, and sadness;

“Why is it not me but you?”

Transactions

I think something I really enjoy about Shima's character and the writing of his arc is how he has conceptualized wants as something that are beyond him - not necessarily because he doesn't have them, but because he believes they are not within his reach unless he is able to offer something of himself in exchange. Especially if that want is affection.

While Shima was definitely deliberately avoiding thinking about his feelings for Mitsumi, I do believe he had some understanding that he liked Mitsumi as more than a friend - that he wanted to be "special" to her.

While he did not (prior Vol. 9/10) conceptualize that "special" connection as necessarily romantic, he was definitely aware enough of that desire to be willing to ask her out.

While Shima has been pretty deliberate about not thinking about his and Mitsumi's relationship, he is incredibly aware of his attractiveness and place in the social hierarchy. From his perspective, romance is not necessarily a connection between two individuals as much as a part of a social politicking system.

This is definitely somewhat just me enjoying #problematic dynamics but I think that there is something very romantic about saying "I'm okay with being used if it's you" haha.

Since Mitsumi broke off their relationship, obviously, a big part of the development that's Shima has been going through has centered on him being able to confront even having desires, but I think they do such a good job with this of showing how his previous disappointments and rejections - largely from his mother - have led to him automatically assuming that others will not be amenable to his wants unless it benefits them in some way.

I think others might have another interpretations, but even this scene:

Is so funny to me because, yeah, obviously Mitsumi wanted some space to cool down, but also would have definitely said yes if he had just asked if he could tag along with her. His tendency to both be indirect and to show the "need" for him to be around are things that ultimately, don't work with Mitsumi.

Mitsumi beginning to move on from prioritizing him as a romantic interest, going back to just treating him as simply a friend - combined with him feeling unstablilized by not being wanted for his role as an object of desire, which he sees as the "value" he offers in exchange - is really what spurred his ask in Ch. 60 imo.

Still cannot conceive of a world where he can just ask for what he wants without needing to prove that he deserves it - or in this case, framing it as almost being "owed" it.

Tl;dr Shima is growing and healing but still definitely still in the torture cube

I feel like a lot of people think that Dazai would be bad at comforting, but I honestly think he's the opposite. Dazai doesn't like talking about his feelings to his s/o, he's more focused on your safety, he prioritizes you over his work, so if he sees you upset or crying, he drops everything. Holding you close until you calm down, and ready to talk, giving you cold water to replenish yourself. He'd stay the whole day with you if it means that it'd make you happy (ू˃̣̣̣̣̣̣︿˂̣̣̣̣̣̣ ू)

Dreams - How do they picture their future with their s/o?

since Japan has a law about/doesn't recognize same sex marriages, there's not much Dazai can do other than propose to you. Although, he often day dreams about a wedding, how ethereal you'd look on it, how it'll all he worth it to be with the man he'd sacrifice the world for. Which usually leads to Kunikida to yell at Dazai and force him to finish his work, his work notebook is filled with you in a wedding suit / dress. not seen has dominant but more possessive, maybe he has power over you in the bedroom, but in a more general sense, he’s not really a dominant person. he's a bit stubborn at first, but then apologizes profusely after you give him the cold shoulder, he has such bad abandonment issues that he can't stand the thought of loosing you because of a fight. First of all, the argument would probably be his fault, Dazai doesn't take it seriously at the start, making jokes in between which just fueled your anger, then gets very serious and it leads to a screaming match between you too. After this, Dazai would be the first to apologize which leads you guys to talk about your feelings. At this point, he'd hold you close, never letting go . ༼˵˃̶̀ɷ˂̶́˵༽ ෆ⃛

he's very grateful for you, you are the reason why he's still here, he tries to tell you his gratitude in every way he can. unfortunately, he does have secrets, but not in the way you think. He hides how he truly feels, when he looks at himself, it's like puzzle pieces were scattered, not even he knows how he feels at times. Dazai doesn't want to worry you, he carries so much emotional baggage that he feels that if he ever told you, you'd be under pressure trying to fix everything and leave him. He doesn't know how healthy relationships work, you were the first one he was serious about. It's fine, you wear him down so he's forced to express himself !! (ﾉ≧ڡ≦)｡

he would change, if he's committed then he would change for you. I believe if it's for the better, he'd do it with no hesitation, if it's change for the worst reasons. Odasaku had such a influence on his life, just for showing the slightest bit of affection, so if his s/o comes into the picture, they would most definitely change him. he'd be the one who'd make you jealous, he is the flirty type after all, he won't go too far though, so don't worry your pretty little head. He trusts you enough to know that you'd do the right thing, so unless he has a real reason to get worried, he doesn't get jealous that easily. If the person you're talking to keeps tinkering with you, Dazai would snake his arms around your waist, or get physicallly affectionate with you. When the person doesn't get the hint, he'd try to get you out of the conversation. Reassure him that you'll always be with him after the situation . (*｀д´)

yes. Definitely. He has slept with multiple women { + a few men }, so he would most likely be a good kisser. like I previously said, Japan doesn't recognize same sex marriage, but Dazai would still be proposing, it reassures you to know that he's committed and would marry you in a heartbeat. When it becomes legal, he wouldn't even care if he gets a wedding, he'll take an elopement, he wants to get married. When he propose, it'd definitely surprise you, he'd have the whole ADA on it too, as long as it's not during work hours, everyone would be excited for him. when he's interested, he'll make it known to everyone. He's a hard flirt, buttering you up everytime, complimenting you every day. He LOVES being all over you, hugging you and clinging onto you. Unless you're SUPER oblivious or a massive himbo { not to be rude }, you should be able to guess that he likes you and his co-workers know that, strangers even confuse you two for a couple. if it won't be casual dating, he'd be more caring than flirting, y'know ? he is not shy about going public, he loves talking about you to his co-workers. Whenever he talks to Atsushi, he sneaks in little brags about you here and there, mentioning you in snippets of his conversations. Since his main love language is physical affection, he basicslly strangles you with his love, he just can't help but ooze out his intimate feelings for you, you're just so perfect to him !  ಢ‸ಢ

Dazai has a terrifying ability to easily persuade someone and read them like an open book. He'd convince a cashier to give him a discount whenever he buys you something, he even did it to bye you an expensive watch, " my love, how'd you afford this ? ", " uhh.. just enjoy the gift ". When you feel upset, he can tell immediately, by your body language, the tone of your voice and just how you look { like if you have motivation to do your care routine }, he makes sure to keep track of your mood . He can be very romantic, but sometimes, he doesn't have the money, so he steals from Kunikida, as long as you don't focus on that fact then his gesture is lovely. Whenever he plans dates, he blows off work to focus on it, Dazai likes to keep it plain, so he'd give you chocolates, maybe a restaurant or a love hotel. Not so much as cliché but the way he talks about you is super cheesy . (ιº o º)!

it depends what type of goals you have. He tries to keep you on the right track, kind of scolding you when you’re off task, and of course he would be proud of you. Dazai is going to be your biggest cheerleader, he believes his s/o can do anything !  •᷄ ρ•᷅

Thrill - Do they need to try out new things to spice out your relationship? Or do they prefer a certain routine?

he's extremely adventurous, wonder how you keeo up with him without passing out. One time, you guys went skydiving, he managed to convince you even with your little protests. Long story short, you caught him ripping his parachute, but you guys still had a good time {both of you almost passed out}. Dazai thinks the same rountine can get insanely boring, everything is new with him . (ง°̀ﾛ°́)ง

Understanding - How good do they know their partner? Are they empathetic?

Dazai definitely has ASPD and NPD, it grew much stronger in the port mafia, and it was hard for him to heal from that. He tries to he understanding, it's just a little difficult for him, sometimes he comes off as a little insensitive. He apologizes but it depends on the situation, like if he makes a mess whether at your place or at your shared home and you get upset, he tries to ignore that and move on from the subject. Something that he thinks is worth giving an apology for .  ( Ĭ ^ Ĭ )

Value - How important is the relationship to them? What is it’s worth in comparison to other things in their life?

he holds so much value into it, you mean a lot to him. It's hard for Dazai to find a reason to keep on living, but when you came in the picture, Kunikida didn't receive late night phone calls from Dazai about his morality and the meaning of life. If we're comparing you to something, you could be worth more than the ADA, but that's only if you're actually serious about this relationship. Sometimes he asks himself the question " if I'm faced with the situation, would I sacrifice the world for [first name] ? ", he usually chooses you, in this hypothetical question . (❁´▽`❁)

Wild Card - A random Fluff Headcanon.

he steals lipstick from one of his female co-workers to kiss your face with them. One time, he stole Yosano's makeup on your lunch break, and when she found out, she chased him around the office for 30 minutes. You can't take it off since it's waterproof, so you have to embarrassingly ask for makeup wipes. Almost everyone at the ADA tells him to stop, but he never does ! ~ ♪(*^ ・^)ノ⌒☆

get ready to be tackled by this man. He ADORES the affection, he loves it more when you give, it makes him feel validated. Dazai's very public about it too, why shouldn't he make it known to everyone? Dazai is a " bear hug " man, he fully embraces you. He also likes it when you kiss his face, especially in front of everyone, he thinks it makes everybody jealous. Dazai wraps you with his arms in bed, you have to fight him under the covers because you feel too hot since he insists on being stuck to you like he's glued to you . (❁´▽`❁)

Yearning - How will they cope when they’re missing their partner?

Dazai would try to manipulate his way back, but if you put your foot down and is set on your decision, he'll stop, he won't beg. his life shattered, it only fed his narrative about himself, " nothing good every stays ", Dazai thinks that he's not worthy of anything gold because it always leaves. Kunikida has to take care of him more, scolding him to eat more and to come into work, but he wouldn't have any motivation anymore. His friends would probably call you an " evil man " for a while, but you're an adult, you could make your own decisions, and they understand it. It's just hard to see Dazai's life revert back into the depressing one that he was trapped in, he didn't kniw what to do now that you were gone ...  ŏ̥̥̥̥םŏ̥̥̥̥ 

Zeal - Are they willing to go to great lenghts for the relationship? If so, what kind of?

he's willing to go far for you, he'd risk sudden death if you were in danger. It kind of makes him go berserk if you get hurt by someone, you're just really special. He'll sacrifice anything if it means hearing your soft snoring in the morning, or your disheveled hair from the pillow messing it up. To him, that view is priceless, and he'd do everything to keep it in his memory forever . (੭ ˃̣̣̥᷄⌓˂̣̣̥᷅ )੭⁾⁾

When it comes to broppy relationship in the movies, I think trolls world tour is the weakest in that department.

First movie broppy has this sort of implied history. Poppy has apparently tried to befriend branch for a long time, and even after everyone has given up on him, poppy still treat him warmly. And we know that despite his rude and cruel behavior, branch did apreciate it deep down. It's easy to imagine that they got to know each other a little bit and one of the reason why poppy is still trying to be his friend is because branch showed her a part of himself that he hide to everyone else. What poppy say in the last movie, "I've been by your side from the moment we meet. And you've been by mine! " seems to confirm this. Even if you ignore this headcanons, their contracting personalities and the way they bounce off each other, coupled with the progressing tenderness of their relationship make for a really cute and compelling dynamic.

Then the second movie roll around, branch's feelings are comfirmed but there's something wrong. Here's the thing. The progression of their relationship is entirely on branch's side. We never get a hint of what poppy think of branch. It's all about branch and her feelings for her. I know poppy is supposed to be very self-absorbed and it's something she has to learn from but her feelings for branch just seems kind of hollow when she only acknowledge him to dismiss his worries and criticize him. She just has this realization after their fight that doesn't feel earned at all. Poppy reciprocating branch's feelings *doesn't feel earned at all *.

But then, trolls holiday in harmony came out, and this year, trolls band together. We get to see how our trolls behave as a couple.

And it's so

They bounce off each other like before but in a much more softer way. Branch gently calm down poppy when she's over ecstatic. Branch's realism balance out poppy's optimism. Even with poppy's mind going all over the place, she pay attention to branch and you have the feeling that she's helping him through trauma and gaining self esteem. Poppy prioritize branch feelings and branch adore poppy for her energy and infectious happiness. It feels like a natural progression of their first movie self, with a much softer branch.

Speaking of branch, I think that's the reason why their dynamic in the second movie was so off. Branch wasn't the sarcastic grump anymore and the writers struggled to find their dynamic. Well, I think they nailed it now. He isn't the grump to her sunshine anymore, he's the calm romantic to her hyperactive affection.
