I got reminded I was supposed to share this recipe when I was looking for something else. These guys are thin and crispy, more biscuity than cakey. The recipe comes from my maternal great-grandma. Serve them with butter and jam if ya wanna get fancy, but they’re sweet enough on their own.
Grammo’s Scones
2 c all-purpose flour
4 tsp baking powder
2 tsp sugar + extra for dusting
1 tsp salt
1/4 c cold butter
1 c dried currants or raisins
2 eggs
1/3 c cream/milk
Sift dry ingredients together in a bowl. Cut in butter until you achieve a coarse meal texture, then stir in fruit.
Break eggs into bowl, reserving small amount of white. Beat well, add cream, and beat thoroughly to combine. Add to dry ingredients, stirring until mixture leaves the sides of the bowl.
Turn out and knead a few times until dough is smooth. Roll out to 3/4” thick, cut into 3” wide strips, then cut the strips into triangles, like this:
Beat the reserved egg whites until frothy, then brush on top of the scones, sprinkling liberally with sugar. Bake at 425°F for 10-15 minutes.
For all my low impulse control babes, DO NOT TOUCH THE SURFACE OF THE SCONES WHEN THEY COME OUT THE OVEN. DO NOT. DONT JUST TAP UR FINGER ON THERE BC THE SUGAR LOOKS SO YUMMY. S T O P .

My least favorite thing about being autistic is how sensitive my tastebuds are to little things, like; I love the taste of lemon juice and flesh, but I hate the taste of zest, it’s disgusting and gross!
And the thing is, I can’t eat most lemon flavored pastries because they primarily taste of zest, not lemon, and it drives me fucking bonkers, because literally no one else seems to notice the disgusting nasty rind flavoring?
Like, I can’t google search ‘like lemons dislike the zest’ and find any acknowledgement of it, only people disliking the effort zesting takes rather than the nasty oily taste of rind that itches the back of your mouth.
Every resource for baking says that using lemon zest ‘gives it more lemon flavor’, when no! It gives you more flavor of the rind, but not the lemon! Those are different ass flavors!
Am I just doomed to never eat a good lemon pastry because the rest of the world is blind to the gross ass nasty rind oil flavor and I’ve been cursed to taste it?

Sure! I originally just ran out of vanilla extract but they were legit so much better I’ve never gone back
Ingredients:
½ cup butter
¾ cup granulated sugar
2 teaspoons Jack Daniels Tennessee Honey whiskey
1 large egg
1 ¾ cups all-purpose flour
½ teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
1 cup semisweet chocolate chips
Instructions
Preheat the oven to 350 F.
Microwave the butter for about 40 seconds. Butter should be completely melted but shouldn't be hot.
In a large bowl, mix butter with the sugar until well-combined.
Stir in whiskey and egg until incorporated.
Add the flour, baking soda, and salt.
Mix dough until just combined. Dough should be soft and a little sticky but not overly sticky.
Stir in chocolate chips.
Scoop out 1.5 tablespoons of dough (medium cookie scoop) and place 2 inches apart on baking sheet.
Bake for 7-10 minutes, or until cookies are set. They will be puffy and still look a little soft in the middle. Leave them out to finish cooking while they cool
Oh I can’t wait to try these. Lemme grab… my chocolate pie recipe maybe. I assume you can probably handle your own pie crust, but if not lemme know. They’re really simple to make. Actually I’ll just post a photo of the recipe. Gram’s handwritin’ ain’t bad, but I don’t wanna type all that.

Ok not to speculate about contestants' private lives but framing the finalists as "family man," "lad with girlfriend," and "sensitive boy who had a special bond with his grandma" is a weirdly retro editing choice

*lounging in the floor with a drink and dark glasses, even indoors, for the aestheticTM
Hello my dear, what it's your favorite cake. Assuming you like cakes. Describe it to me.
Excellent aesthetic TM
Sorry for the delay in reply, yesterday a podfic event was closing so it was The Rush to finish followed by Too Tired To Think lmao
I think my favorite has always been Tres Leches Cake? Asked for it for most of my birthdays, she makes the cake itself with pancake mix, because why not, and then while it is hot you dump in a can of sweetened condensed milk and a can of evaporated milk and leave it (best overnight, because it has more time to soak up the flavor). And then once it's cooled down you take heavy cream and powdered sugar and whip up chantilly cream and (artfully) cover the whole cake.
So it's wet, I guess, and very sweet?
I also love chocolate cakes. All kinds? I have a great recipe for pecan chocolate cake, throw a ganache over it and ta-da. That one is less wet, but still moist? And has more cake texture because it's not as wet.
I do love cakes other people make, but my mom is great at baking so I'm also somewhat picky about it
Love Devil's Food cake? partially because of the name, partially because chocolate.

@beatingheart-bride
"Of course I do," Randall said, his tone turning tender as he set aside his cup for the time being, in order to move closer to sit beside her, to take her cool hand in his, and press a loving kiss to her knuckle. It was funny, doing it now-even after centuries apart, it felt like only yesterday that he had done it, pressing his lips so chivalrously to her knuckles as they walked together...
"I want nothing more than to be with you, Emily," he continued, turning serious once more as he gazed once more into her eyes, hoping to finally convince her to let him follow her into eternity, to be together as they always should've been. "I want nothing more than to be husband and wife-I...I've always felt this longing, I realize now, as if I was missing something, forgetting something...and now that I'm with you, and I remember everything...I realize what was missing-it was you, and our engagement."
He sighed softly at this admission (just another little thing that made sense since they found one another again), before finishing, "And I want to pick up where we left off, if we can-I want us to be happy, and finally have the lives we always wanted...even if it's not the way we imagined it would be. I don't...I don't want to wait any longer, for us to be together. We've waited long enough. And just as I told you before, I'm not afraid to face the future, so long as we're together. And I...I just want to be with you, always. I don't want us to lose one another, and never know if we'll ever find each other again.
I...please, Emily. Please. We've had enough of heartbreak."

"It's like the actively want the bakers to fail."
Oh no. Are they giving it an ol' Food Network competition try, then?
ngl i have no idea what the food network does xhsndnskwkx but if they set ridiculous challenges that dont fit the brief of the show whilst not giving them enough time to complete the challenges and then criticise them for not leaping over the double decker bus they used instead of a hurdle then yeah, thats what they do
