I reblogged it earlier but I'm glad the Something Awful Forums 9/11 thread was archived because it's an incredibly important slice of internet history. For the record I think 9/11 was thousands of personal tragedies for the direct victims of the attacks but one big national farce that led to America's ongoing slide into fascism, and the nationalism and remembrance around it is a joke especially in the wake of the same amount of deaths every fucking day in the US during the height of coronavirus.
Nevertheless I think it's important that if you do not remember because you were too young or just didn't exist on Sept 11, 2001 to read the Something Awful 9/11 forums to get an idea of what the internet was like at the moment when America changed to 24 hour news cycles and renewed hyper-nationalism not seen since WWII.
This all happened before Twitter, Facebook, before Discord. Before smart phones. Before most people had cell phones. When a lot of people still had dial-up internet, even. Some people in the thread were relying on radio because internet and TV weren't keeping up.
It was a live event of internet denizens reacting to the biggest national event (and among the biggest international events) of the past 25 years. It was also a slice of what the internet was like at the turn of the millennium. Not only that, but people accurately calling out who was responsible, and what would result before the attacks even finished.
Keep in mind that the links that follow contain images of the event, lots of Islamophobia, people calling for the Middle East to be nuked, people blaming Palestine, casual racist and homophobic language (this was Something Awful after all), etc etc. They preserved the first 17 pages which spanned about 24 hours during the events. It's the origin of the "WATCH BUSH START A FUCKING WAR" screenshot.
Links under the fold. I've also annotated the pages with notes regarding the timeline and any posts of interest. Note the thread was preserved in Pacific Time even though the page says times are Eastern. That's incorrect. Post timestamps are 3 hours behind Eastern Time, which is the time zone where the attacks occurred:
Page 1 - Note the first post was edited to include images of the second attack. The thread started after the first plane hit. Second plane hitting the WTC happens here too.
Page 2 - Poster accurately calling out Bin Laden was responsible at 9:14 AM EST
Page 3 - "WATCH BUSH START A FUCKING WAR"
Page 4
Page 5 - First official acknowledgement it was a terrorist attack.
Page 6 - Pentagon hit
Page 7
Page 8
Page 9 - Commercial flights grounded by FAA (Federal Aviation Administration)
Page 10 - First mention of towers collapsing at end of page
Page 11 - More reactions to collapse of first tower. People thinking it was a bomb or yet another plane. Rumors about a fourth plane just missing the White House (these are false and predate the actual 4th plane crash by minutes)
Page 12
Page 13 - By this point there's just rampant speculation about more bombs at the WTC, the US Capitol building being hit, etc (all false). Remember this is all just people reacting to TV news and radio and the rumor mill via phone, AIM, IRC, and maybe text messages.
Page 14 - By this point internet news sites are overwhelmed
Page 15 - Second tower collapses. First acknowledgement of the fourth plane that crashed in PA.
Page 16 - There's an abrupt time jump in the threads, I think it was the result of admins pruning the activity or the SA forums going down. This page starts on 9/12 even though it is page 16. American flag signatures and ribbons start appearing.

Major General Patrick Ryder, the Biden administration’s Pentagon spokesman, told reporters on Thursday that there are approximately 2,000 U.S. soldiers in Syria. This is more than double the number of American troops deployed in that country than had earlier been announced.
“Given that this number is significantly higher than what we’ve been briefing, I wanted to let you know as soon as I found out this information,” Ryder added.
Ryder ascribed the error to the presence in Syria of 900 “core” personnel, in comparison to 1,100 “temporary rotational forces,” who are only in theater for a limited amount of time, usually 30 to 90 days.
Ryder also noted that this number of personnel deployed in Syria fluctuates significantly.

He was an intelligent officer after all, so keeping his cake hole shut was a part of his job. Plus, dunno, but it amused him. Especially TvRon, he was trolling folks with smokes and ENJOYED it (appearing like a ghost from the mist, pretending he didn't really know the names while he probably memoried them all like the good S-2 officer he was, scaring the shit out of the poor souls - he was thriving).
But the fact you could have said shit about him and he was meh, but the first moment someone said something incorrect or bad about his family/friends and he was packing to fly over and to offer idiots cigarettes was heartwarming.
I think you said somewhere that Nix not saying a shit for bob was smart and I have to agree. Two Shutup Kings, lol
I think Ambrose's brain was cooked, because he focused on Winters and his ways of managing a company. And then he got Sparky and his all ideas were probably fucked (I so don't feel sorry for him, there are so many mistakes in his books, wrrrr).
Did a lot of Easy guys mention they liked/thought Speirs was a good Captain?
Matheson sounded like he thought Speirs was collecting Pokemons or something and felt salty he didn't manage *rolls eyes*.
Probably, I'm not the only one who is eternally bitter NO ONE called him Sparky in the show.
Ikr? Like ok, guy was mysterious but come on. His time in Dog feels like the surface was just touched. And his records after WWII are quite cryptic and general, so high five for being suspicious.
(If I'm annoying with all of these messages, just tell, I will shut up).
NO. Keep the messages coming! I love this shit! I have so many thoughts on everything and they're all bouncing around my head!
His story really does boil down to his statement of "You ever notice it's always I heard this from someone else?" and its true. Narrow down the handful of guys who have seen things first hand. The series does a great job of showing the gossip.
Matheson's issue is just weird. He's the only one who seems to think Speirs problem was that he was a slut. LOL. He's talking about him into the 60s! the gossip about Speirs was even circulating around the Pentagon.
Its either 'he was the most hated man in the company' by someone who got to dig out boulders with an entrenching tool, or Winters who was judgy about how he was with enlisted men, or Tab who was in love with Winters. As far as guys who said he was the best CO. Off the top of my head, Martin, Shames, Lyall. Carson and Gibson were favorable. Lipton and Winters both said (according to Ambrose) he was the 'cruelest man I ever met' but also the best combat officer. Webster kinda has a crush on him. I don't see anyone criticizing him in combat though, just his down time hobbies and how he treated some of the enlisted guys. Dudes were dressing up in enemy uniforms and going to show off to him, like? Who does that to the guy they hate? Lyall runs up to him several times and asks 'Mother may I steal this?' and he's like 'Sure.'
Tom Gibson seems to be the only one with any stories from Dog Co, defensive of Sparky, but he also thought Welsh was running Easy the whole time. There was a guy in a subreddit who said his grandpa was in Dog and the saying was that it wasn't Speirs that got shot when he ran out into battle it was the guy right behind him.
John G.. Mayer went on patrols with him in Holland and Speirs is trying to put him in for commendations and promotions the guy keeps telling him to shove it. Speirs is just like 'Ok dude' and rips up the letters and moves on.
The level of chill about everyone talking all this shit is incredible, it's why I started suspecting his Intelligence work was more involved than talking with Nixon or Shames in HQ. He was on someone's radar, because they interviewed him for that Coke/Toll House/Spotlight Parade thing

For Everyone New to Batfam Fandom
Do all the Robins in fanart look identical to you? Here's how to tell your BatBoys apart:
Dick Grayson: First Robin, oldest. Anything talking about "big brother moment/vibes/energy" is likely Dick. In the height lineup he is second tallest, and his hair has a little swoop off to the side. In incorrect quotes and art he's generally a soft "big bro" character and "innocent" (everyone knows he isn't and it's kind of a meme at this point). Is he wearing blue? Doing gymnastics? Wearing the Nightwing suit? Have a blue speech bubble/text? Blue character line art? Dick Grayson. In his early Robin days he had the least amount of pants.
Jason Todd: Second Robin, second oldest. He's the big boy, the tallest one, absolute tank of a man. He's usually drawn with a white streak in his hair and a bit gruff/scraggly looking. Angy. He's also known as Red Hood/The Red Hood and wears a- you guessed it- full-face red mask. "Has gun" is a staple in a lot of his art. While the other Robins carry staffs, swords, and various bomb weapons, Jason actually invested in a firearm. His fandom-assigned colour is red, so red text, line art, and speech bubbles is Jason. His early Robin suit has slightly more pants than Dick got, but they're still in briefs territory.
Tim Drake: Third Robin, he actually got pants with his robin suit. Depending on the art, he's usually drawn with a sort of crew-cut hairstyle or curtain middle part. Typically drawn as a teenager/younger adult, and third in the height order. Does he look like a little nerd? That's because he is, that's Tim for 'ya. Is the Robin hopelessly sleep deprived, chugging cups of coffee, or hacking the pentagon? Tim Drake! Tim's colour is typically yellow, so text, speech bubbles, etc, you get the idea.
Stephanie Brown: Fourth Robin. The girl one. But seriously, she's blonde, generally a positive influence in art, but is a wild card for all intents and purposes. She's special in that people use her presence in incorrect quotes and art to be either peacekeeping and an angel or a complete agent of chaos, and it can flip flop either way. I've seen her colour be pink, baby blue, and a few other colours. Wears a pretty typical Robin suit.
Damien Wayne: Fifth Robin, Batman's biological son. He's the youngest and smallest, drawn with darker skin and usually short, neat hair. Says "father" instead of dad and talks very formally. Typically a rabid child in most fanart, he wields two swords and is seen threatening violence upon his brothers in art and incorrect quotes. Loves animals and is sometimes drawn with his dog. His Robin suit is mostly black with some yellow highlights, and his domino mask is green instead of black like the other Robins. His colour is green, so green text bubbles, line art, and text are probably Damien.

so ok, having finished rodeo, a movie I've been excited to watch for over a year, lotta thoughts
definitely worth the wait for me
the ideas explored in this movie are so very very complex, it's almost difficult to fit plot around them and yet it does so pretty immaculately
my biggest downside i think would be that it had space for a longer runtime. there were definitely bits that were rushed and the ending seemed to come... not out of nowhere, but faster than i think it needed to. some of the character dynamics (especially mr crime boss) felt a little underbaked
but. BUT: it doesn't really matter to me so much for several reasons - the story trajectory was fucking solid (I saw some people say not enough happened/that it was purely a vibes-based film, which was odd to me. i thought this film careened forward plotwise, it was very easy to see the direction it was going in, it wasn't trying to trick us or slow us down to get there) - the acting was great across the board. read that they were non-actors, and that naturalism really did come across, but i also don't think there was awkwardness or a lack of direction in the acting that can sometimes come from working with non-actors. probably because they were in their element - obviously, especially the lead -- can't tell if she's a non-actor or a newcomer, but either way she was amazing. every time a movie creates a female character who is SO SO off-putting and abrasive and angry and unwilling to give an inch an angel gets its wings, and she really commits, but also i thought she was incredibly vulnerable, it was simply that the language for who she is is completely impossible to access so what has she got left as a girl-who-may-not-be-a-girl from a rough estate, multi-ethnic, desperate to access a macho environment? like. of course she's got her hackles up near-constantly - the haunting???? THE HAUNTING?????? THIS WAS A GHOST STORY???????? HELLO????????????? what if you were a girl-who-was-an-incorrect-girl-who-wanted-to-be-like-a-boy-but-mainly-you-wanted-to-go-fast! and this man who helped you start getting your wings haunted/possessed you and you knew the only thing that mattered was being on the bike, that moment when you're going as fast as you can, that's who you really are, and you get it via the ghost of this dead man who comes to you in your dreams and claws his way inside you and gives you sage advice (and is also stunningly beautiful) - the gender, obviously. the overlap of trans/non/agender/dyke-gender/boy/boi/girl-not-girl coming-of-age explorations in there and the thing is, the beautiful beautiful thing is... i was expecting this film to go in the direction of "ah yea, and then she discovers her innate womanhood via this straight romance clearly being established between her and this guy" OR later on "she discovers her innate lesbian womanhood via this romance possibly being established between her and this woman" and neither of these things happen!!!!!!!! - this movie is for the aroaces, is what I'm saying. the triple-a's even. heck possibly the pentagon a's tbh: she's giving us aro, ace, aplatonic, afamilial, agender, she's giving us "all that Matters is the bike, stealing them, riding them, cleaning them up, going fast" she even sleeps with the bike at one point (literally sleeps, not sexually), that's who she is! - for the objectums too i just realised. the bike is the most important relationship here - and all of that Lack Of Romance that gets established is kind of at the heart of untangling a lot of her gender as well. she never does have a traditional coming-of-age, because to her all that mattered was getting to ride bikes, getting to steal those bikes, being the baddest bikerider, becoming something mythological and she did that! - so the ending is probably not for everyone, but i did see it as a positive. she wasn't in it "to be accepted" in the end (that was her first need, but really it was a means, and while she did take the kindness and give it back at times, esp to the wife, and i think one can read it as subtextual lesbianism, i do think there are textual moments to suggest she feels mostly sorry for her and her solution is: BIKES!!! like she wants to get her away from her husband, and she likes her kid, but it's not necessarily about getting her to herself, it's about offering freedom), she was in it to ride bikes forever and she does get that - fucking. it's a ghost story!!!! about asphalt pirates!!!!!!!! it invokes cowboys and pirates and highway men!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
so in the end ok yeah, maybe the movie is a little bit about The Vibes, but I'd say more about The Themes and i can imagine a lot of people are seeing setups and expecting certain directions and feeling let down when that's not what the movie does. i did that at one point, specifically related to either having a heist go wrong or the crime boss guy acting out, and neither of these really happen, she's like. very good at what she does, consistently, and the only thing that goes wrong, every time, is that her innate being -- her Otherness (she calls herself Unknown arghhh) -- gets her into trouble with the guys (later just one guy who can't let go) who cannot square that with their reality of how the world Should Be, which is very very interesting. the plot doesn't come for her, her own hubris doesn't come for her, it's simply that Who She Is is threatening
but also that "Who She Is" is never totally spelled out -- it could be dykery, gender (which is also dykery in many ways), aroness, and really it's a mix of all of these because these things overlap in a multitude of ways (AND the movie definitely lends deliberate credence to all of them -- at one point someone disputes that she's "a tranny," at another point she's playing house with a married woman for a day and is warned away from her, at a third point a guy asks her if she "has a pussy" it's all "wrong gender/sexuality/relationship-structures")
which is. very very queer of this film
anyway. so. queer asphalt pirate haunting. but not as a series of tropes, if you expect tropes you will be disappointed. as an exploration and a kiss towards subculture and a feminist coming-of-age that's not about love for once
also this as double-feature with titane, although i wouldn't call this eroticism of the machine, because crucially julie in this film does not want to fuck anything or anyone, she just wants to be spiritually connected to a motorbike forever, unlike ofc alexia, who is consistently very very horny for the cars/trucks
spiritualism of the machine, if you will

I will be about any of the agencies that justify the Chinese people to reside in the Indonesian State
----------
Messenger of the people from any point of the government's agency is not justified in providing asylum protection to Chinese people to live in Indonesia or the United Nations and even the Indonesian government is not justified in giving asylum to the Chinese people in Lndoseia because China has been judged by a positive act of crimes that have an adverse impact on the people of the Indonesian children in the country of LNDONESIA. China is in Indonesia.
There are certain reasons to be given asylum with the aim of saving human lives under pressure threats. First, the UN may ask one of the countries if the country with without being asked to arrive refugees to flee in the permit into the country due to refugees to get war pressure in their country and then they rush to save their lives.
Both of one country may provide protection to people who are in the threat of their dangers, what if the country's government assesses that people who are threatened by their lives are considered to be doing truth cases. One example of the faith of the ruhollah ruhollah commented that the pressure is threatened by his life. Khomeini was exiled from Iran in 1964 after strongly criticizing the policies of Shah Mohammad Reza Pahlavi, then Ayatolah Khomeni asked for protection from Turkey and France. Because Türkiye and France assessed that the actions of the Khomeni Ruholah Ayatolah were considered to want to uphold social justice.
One more example Doctor Li was given protection by Pentagon America because Pentagon considered the attitude of Li's actions to say the truth but because there was no power and effort of the Doctoral Li who was to take action to the crime of the Communist Chinese army who had created the Covid Virus 19 One more example, Salman Rusdi people of Indians Muslims have tarnished the name of Islam with the book Surah Satan published by Salaman Rusdi finally Salman Rusdi can be the threat of death from the Priest of the Agung Ayat Ayatolah Ruholah Khomeni. But Salman Rusdi as Depelomatic Brithis and because the Brithis who asked Salam Rusdi to work in a Brithis State must provide protection to Salman Rusdi who until now Salman Rusdi surrounded even though the wrong action was treated by Salman Rusdi Brithis must take the weight responsibility of Resico received by Salman Rusdi.
While please explain to me in detail from the beginning of the arrival of the Chinese to Indonesia there were no children of the Indonesian nation based on the laws of law that asked the Chinese to come to Indonesia and even in the Chinese like a dog so that all Chinese people came out of the Indonesian country when in the Sukarno era the first became the president of the Indonesian country, and there was no Indonesia asked the Chinese people to come and reside in our country Indonesia. Day by day Chinese people in Indonesia did not stop committing crimes stealing the rights of the property of the child, I asked the UN's question to the United Nations and the Indonesian government, whether the Golonga criminals did not stop doing the mandatory leading acts that needed asylum by the United Nations and the Government of the Indonesian State ...........? If given asylum to the Chinese people in Lndonsia, it means that the UN and the Indonesian state government did not do the incorrect, for example the UN and the Indonesian government of the Indonesian state, putting the goods not lies in its place. But I am named Mustafa Kamal Nufullah as a child of the Indonesian Indonesian Indonesian nation, I will continue to take action if the UN and the Indonesian government gave asylum to Chinese as a foreigner to the Chinese people are justified in living in the country ***
