Warning: this is so dumb.

Buuuut Simon Riley in an established long-term relationship likes to touch you, I just know it. Holding hands is good, arms are fine, legs even better, but what he really likes is getting his hands somewhere in the middle. Your waist, hips, stomach, back ... where he can feel the meat of you.

He'll sneak up behind you when you're cooking dinner, his hand automatically sliding under the hem of your shirt just to feel the soft, warm skin of your stomach. Or if you're wearing a dress, that's fine too, he'll push it up just enough to dip his fingers into the fat of your hips. He can't get enough of it.

Then one day he comes home and you're wearing a romper, and he's immediately equal parts confused and annoyed.

"The fuck is this?" he mutters, pawing at you like an anxious, dumb animal.

"It's called fashion, Simon, look it up."

"How you even supposed to piss in this thing? Fucking mad."

You stand there patiently as his hands bunch the fabric around your waist, looking for a way in, but there isn't one. The romper is loose and flowy, but down to your ankles with no buttons in the front. He's like a pitiful overgrown gerbil, trying to burrow his way through, and you can't help but laugh.

"Think this is funny?" he asks, finally meeting your eyes.

"Pretty funny, yeah," you answer.

An hour later, you're singing a different tune. The romper has been unceremoniously discarded somewhere and Simon has been thoroughly making up for that little bit of lost time when he wasn't able to run his fingers over your bare skin.

"Need to be able to feel my girl," he mutters, more to himself than to you, and you make a note to go through your closet, tailoring your wardrobe to suit this seemingly serious, but not at all unwelcome, desire.

Okay, I have A Thought.

So I've seen around a few times that Danny's heart stops and freaks out people with superhearing, particularly Superman and his family. Que the freaking out because this child's heart has stopped and they haven't even seemed to notice.

But what if Danny keeping his heart beating takes effort? He has to focus on it at least a little all the time to seem more human. But if he's relaxed because he's, say, gaming over at Tucker's, he stops paying attention to if his heart is beating or not, and it stops. Sort of like how if you're walking around in a place you don't know in the middle of the night, you're tense and worried, but once you make it to a little area or a place you know better you stop being so nervous.

All that to say, having a beating heart is a stress response for halfas. And, like any other stress response, having it be constantly active can have long term negative effects. This was discovered by Frostbite shortly before Danny told his parents about being a halfa, and in fact influenced that decision. It turned out well, and Danny's heart began to stop more and more frequently while at home, to the point that it rarely ever beats at home now.

So que Phantom joining the League through some shenanigan or another, and together they're working to dismantle the Anti-Ecto Acts. The League knows he's powerful, but he's paranoid enough that he hasn't told them about the whole "half dead" thing. He's wandering around the Watchtower, chatting with Superman as they walk past a window that looks out into space. Danny's chatting about his weekend plans with Sam and Tuck, Superman's chatting about his upcoming visit to Ma and Pa's farm, and suddenly the kid's heart just stops.

And Superman freaks out. Because there is a child right next to him having a heart attack and seemingly not knowing.

He rushes Phantom to the medbay, only for his heart to be beating again? And the kid looks really freaked out and confused now. So he apologizes, explains what he heard, or rather didn't hear, and asks if it's an arrhythmia or something.

And now Danny, poor, socially awkward, barely a sophomore in high school Danny, gets to explain that sometimes, if he's really happy and content and feels safe, his heart stops and it is actually a good thing.

Sae Niijima is such a good character it drives me insane a little. She's not a mother nor a maternal or doting older sister but instead a twenty four year old who was thrown into a position of responsibility that she never asked for. She loves Makoto just as much as she resents her and its so apparent every time they talk up until November. "Are you studying?" (I want you to do well) (I need you to get a job and stop making my life harder) "I'll use any method necessary to get this promotion" (Life will be easier for us) (So stop distracting me with your problems) "Focus on your future" (I know that you're capable) (I can't afford to waste my time on you, so stop wasting time on others)

Makoto is not only the sole reason she pushes as hard as she does for a promotion, for success, and the reason that she loses herself in her animosity over her fathers death, but also someone she can't stand for so long. Makoto was 14-15 when their father died. Sae was 21. As soon as she got the career she wanted and things started to look up, her stability was robbed from her and she was disillusioned with the system that her father had taught her to rely on and completely adhere to. How do you manage, the daughter of a cop, following his footsteps towards law enforcement, when you're suddenly reminded of how unfair it is? You can't quit, your little sister relies on you and she's so young and struggling just as badly with this grief. So you pick yourself up and you get moving again. You push harder, press further. You abandon your morals and your ethics because punishing criminals (guilty or not) is almost like punishing the man who killed your father.

And the whole time she's fighting for promotions, going for drinks with the SIU Director to make herself more favourable for promotions, trying to navigate being a woman in a competitive, suffocating, male-dominated field, falling behind despite doing so much where others are promoted for doing so little - all the while your little sister comes back from school and her biggest issues are so small compared to yours.

Persona 5 revolves so heavily around grief and loss and change and Sae embodies all of that so well, all of the sharp and unpleasant and jagged parts of grief.
