vaggie, miss "im not used to fighting with long hair" who's out of practice actually battling someone or really stabbing ppl...
...still had the arm and hand strength, the REFLEXES, to do a bare handed blade catch on a SWORD, who's user had been doing an aerial dive with it aimed at vaggie's FACE
then sling around and THROW her opponent with it
i know she wants a peaceful-ish life with charlie, but i really wouldn't mind seeing her getting into just a FEW more fights >:D
also also side note:
carmilla was able to eff her up earlier so easily bc vaggie fought like an exorcist, no thought to getting hurt or personal defense, the headspace of 'i can't get killed! wheee! DIE DIE DIE' that got that other exorcist killed
and the main advice vaggie got from carmilla was take advantage of that sure, but first and more importantly, defend yourself better
which kinda plays into the whole "be out for love thing" too
aka the fight isn't important, it's what you're fighting to still have Afterwards that matters- the people you love, having a life with them
(the hotel, the hazbins, charlie)
carmilla doesn't send vaggie off with a 'you're ready to go kill angels'. she's only satisfied and ends their little lesson / sparring match when she can say "you might just survive this"
feels like she wasn't teaching vaggie to take out angels. she was reminding her and showing her how NOT to get KILLED
so it's just so nice seeing vaggie blocking, dodging, and grappling lute later. how good she is at focusing on avoiding or neutralizing those attacks aimed at her. how Seriously she takes them
binding lute's both lute's arms and wedging them into her own body so lute's sword CAN'T be angled towards her
the way this shot emphasis's the THREAT of the sword hanging over vaggie
and how her flash-fast recovery and block shows she's READY for it
dodging, not attacking
she's not in this for blood or vengeance, this lady is trying to stay the fuck alive. she's got things and people to live for
things like the idea of mercy. that thing both her and charlie show their enemies, people who came down to hell for murder and spent this fight trying to kill them and got damn close to doing it.
and sure there's a pretty big tone difference between charlie's "Whoa whoa dad. He's had enough" and vaggie's "No, live. Live knowing that you only do because I let you" but both end at the same place, with someone who hates them still getting a second chance
(UNLESS ITS NIFFTY WITH THE ANGELIC BLAAADE)
and vaggie wants that second chance too. she wants a life with charlie, and fights hard so she can stick around for it
epic fail, lute... have you considered getting a hobby...?

@elderwisp tagged me for the OC evolution prompt going around, but I don't really have any characters I've tweaked over a long period of time like that, so I decided to dig some old Sims out of my library to give makeovers! I first made these Sims five years ago as sidekicks to help my then current legacy heir solve the Strangerville mystery. I really adored them at the time, and I still think their cartoon-y originals are cute, but my style leans a bit more realistic now and I think I'm better at sculpting faces. Plus, they definitely needed a CC upgrade. It gave me such a burst of nostalgia to bring them back for a minute!
From left to right: Ros, soldier turned whistleblower; Juniper, programmer/part-time hacker; Daphne, half-alien Strangerville native (and, naturally, Ros and Juniper are also secretly in love with one another but too afraid to admit it).
Not sure who still hasn't done this but I'll tag @windslar, @elderberries-and-honey, @aheathen-conceivably, @papermint-airplane, @xldkx, @madebycoffee, and anyone else who wants to do their take on it!

December 2
The Count is in the basement, playing his organ while James' lovely wife is off with Asa - hunting. That leaves James in a rare moment by himself in the Straud Mansion upstairs area.
He's brooding over his interactions with Dakota in the Magic Realm the day before as well as his past. He has a longer past than many think. Caleb Vatore might be the only one who has even an idea of how old James really is. Magic can do wonders. The particular thing he's thinking about happened a mere few years ago. Back before he even made his presence known again to Caleb - to anyone. He had been living with Liberty in Germany for about a year when he made a trip to Strangerville to gather some ingredients he needed for a potion. Strangerville is the only place in the world that has what he needed - petals from one of the weird plants that grow in that town. He wasn't expecting what he saw when he stopped in at the bar that night. After some research, he formulated a plan.
A few years ago in Strangerville...
James waited until Jillian Ambrose was away for a few hours before approaching the property. With a few words in latin, he temporarily brought back an angry spirit back from her days of haunting the house.
James gave it a few minutes to let the spirit get her footing in the land of the living, before entering the house with a good ole trick he learned in his youth - picking a lock. Not everything he does relies on magic.
"Temperance." James called from the living room, seeing the woman in question standing in the kitchen.
Temperance didn't answer the voice, she just stared at the kitchen. It was once her kitchen, granted it doesn't look like the way she had it. She hates the decor. "Why?" she whispered. Why was she breathing? She was busy haunting a wine bottle when suddenly she was flesh and bone again. Air was rushing in and out of her lungs. She almost fell flat on her face as she took a step towards the stove.
"You want to live again, don't you?" The voice asked as it grew closer. She finally managed to turn to look at the intruder.
"Well duh." was her response as she eyed the man. He's not bad looking and she can tell he's magically endowed and possibly endowed in another area as her mind wanders. It's been quite a while since she's gotten to engage in certain physical pleasures.
James almost rolled his eyes at Temperance's traveling gaze. "I have an deal for you." there's silence as Temperance once again looked at his face. He knew he had her attention. "I want you to kill the woman who bought this house. Do it and I'll make you human again."
Rather than question James over the specifics, as he expected, Temperance immediately agreed to his offer. "You have yourself a deal." She stated, holding out her hand for a handshake. James slowly shook her hand as she lightly rubbed her thumb over his. With that the deal was struck.
Temperance almost succeeded.
She would have succeeded, if Dakota hadn't been there and Guidry hasn't warned them. James finds himself oddly glad his plan hadn't worked. That thought seems to trouble him the most.

Heyyy! Love this au and I've gotta know something.
As far as we've seen Bishop's personal guards are all aliens and mutants and an oddly expressive Kraang. Personally I find it hard to believe that even as the beloved and totally-not-evil president, Bishop would ever trust aliens with his personal safety. Especially since in "The Day of Awakening" we see Bishop's personalised task force and it's 99% humans and one Triceraton (and the turtles ig). And I believe that one triceraton is just there for the sake of "Hey, why is there only one alien?"
In short, why do you think Bishop would trust aliens/mutants enough to make them his bodyguards? Or is there more to it?
Hello!! Fellow Bishop stannie 🫵 Very glad to hear you're enjoying the AU!
I'll say that I do believe the majority of Bishop's force is human, moreso because he operates out of earth and humans are still the overwhelming majority there. Any unnamed guards (or maybe they'll get names too eventually?) can be assumed to be human. The four named guards are, in a meta sense, pre-existing OCs repurposed to fill out the background and make the world feel a bit more lived-in.
It's worth mentioning that Bishop does not feel the same about aliens that he did in his EPF days. That's the major reason EPF is gone, after all! He still won't trust any of them, but that's about on par with how he treats anyone: distant and distrustful, hidden under a veneer of politeness. The way I've always parsed it, Agent Bishop didn't see aliens as people, more demons, and then being rescued threw that entire belief out of wack. So now humans/Terrans and aliens are a bit closer to the same level, for him. He'll prioritize Earth's citizens, but that seems to include some extraterrestrial immigrants, too, nowadays.
So! Having said that, there's a few other elements that go into it. For one, frankly, it just looks good for Bishop to employ aliens from among PGA's allies. It's a show of trust-- not that he entirely does; vets them very thoroughly. For another, non-humans just have really handy abilities. This gives him more versatility in how he can choose to approach a problem, if one ever arises (he is, after all, a military commander at heart.) For example (since I doubt it'll ever come up,) Hambone has an elasticity that means she can absorb blunt force and fit through small spaces. Lyssis (who has not made an appearance yet I'm p sure, woops,) can absorb fire and elecricity. Stuff like that, yknow?
Anyway that's about the jist of it, I hope that's a satisfactory conclusion! Some of these characters also have more involved reasons for getting recruited, but since that gets into OC lore I'll leave it below the cut 👍
--Adelram
I think it should be fine to divulge a little lore since, again, background characters, probably won't come up too centrally. Hambone and Lyssis were mutated incidentally in an attack on PGA HQ back in 2080. Bishop publicly took it upon himself to rehabilitate the mutants involved, (who had been driven mad and violent by the strange mutagen,) handing them off to his personal scientists. He kept closely involved, hoping to find a lead to the source of the attack, and for this reason both mutants partly credit him for their recoveries and even being able to meet each other. They're loyal for this reason, and he knows it. They are also undoubtedly citizens of Earth.
Ritter is a bit more of a wacky story, one that won't really effect the plot. But their being an Utrom is not publicly known, as it happens. It's not a secret, per se, but they pass so well that most people assume they're human. They've been around since EPF, having served under Agent Bishop among its ranks. Bishop is aware they're an Utrom, and unfortunately they've proved very loyal and very useful, so he supposes he has to keep them around. It is pretty nice having a guard who doesn't need to sleep and only eats like once a month. This is also kinda the only life Ritter has ever really known, being under Bishop's command. They'd follow him anywhere, would do anything he asked of them.

Kit!! I’ve reread all your fics cause I was missing you during your break and was wondering — what occupies your brain more? One shots set in the GFFA or multi chapter aus? I love when you post what seems like spontaneous one shots of a silly little moment in the GFFA, but then you’ll have these long elaborate plots of obikin set in another universe that you slowly work through chapter by chapter
you missed me during my lil break ? 🥺 🥺☺️
you reread all my fics during my lil break?? 😯😵 that’s a lot of words!!!
and this is a really good question!! I think for me, the way my brain works is that I’m not thinking about a fic unless I’m actively about to write it or am writing it—that’s why it feels like such a big deal to me when an ao3 fic/au gets a Google doc because if it’s not literally open as one of the tabs in my browser or im not actively answering an ask about it, I’m liable to forget, no matter how interested I am in the prompt/fic
(this is also why my browser is a mess with like 6 or 7 open Google doc tabs right now tbh)
so the silly oneshots I have, both gffa and not, definitely consume my time and mind when I’m writing them but then after they’re done, I don’t think about them as much because it’s posted and over — and I’m writing something else. The longer, multi-chapter fics probably take up more room in my mind because they’re something I have to plan or at least something I have to continuously write
And in general, I think writing a chapter update for a fic takes me longer than writing a one shot (especially a silly one shot) because I do want the tone to match the rest of the fic & the characterization to track & I want to make sure that I’m setting up action for the next chapter/that there’s filler but that in general we’re moving forward with the story

kard was SO FUN but honestly people need to be FAR more mindful of their phones at gigs. i get that you want to film for friends or for memories or whatever other reason, but every time a song starts and a hundred phones go up it makes it REMARKABLY difficult to actually see the stage.

once again I still think finn and Liz are better as friends, but also I think what’s very irritating about this pairing is that they aren’t really playing a part in any major plotlines rn, so seeing them show up feels like these two have been paired together to hit contract minimums in the meantime, like they’re in this romance story holding pattern until the writers figure out what to do next…
