people to get to know better
tagged by @kaylithographica (I think!?) ages ago. I’m just hugely terrible at doing these things. I have over 200 “drafts” in my account and I keep meaning to add my thoughts and responses to things and here we are.
Last Song: “Wait in the Truck” by HARDY
Last Show: The Recruit? I’m terrible at tracking when I have finished watching what things! It’s a good show, but oh dear holy god it was tense. I had a friend suggest it because it was “funny” and let me just say that I think very few people with military/intelligence backgrounds (or who were raised by someone in that line of work) would ever find it funny. It was excellent character work, but also terrifying because I have plenty of cause to believe that very little of the supposedly made-for-TV “exaggerations” were actually, well, exaggerations. Again, great and interesting show, but I could only watch an episode or two at a time. I could not physically tolerate binging it.
Currently Watching: Titans season 4. Literally just watched the first episode of this (final) season.
Currently Reading: The Wicked King by Holly Black. I don’t often read YA fantasy anymore and I truly forget how hard YA authors go on the politics/cruelty aspect. I think it’s because they can’t lean into the super hot sex/intimacy you get in a lot of adult fantasy nowadays? Regardless, the book is excellent but I had to take a breather and read some cotton-candy adult romance after The Cruel Prince to reset myself for this one, lol.
Tagging (if you wanna): I never know who to tag because I really am just screaming into the void, so inevitably I get tagged by the people I know first :P

I was on a long car ride with some coworkers from a different department last week and at some point I mentioned my temperature blanket where I knit a row every day to record the temperature for that day. The guy driving was like “oh that’s kinda weird”
Like buddy THAT’s your bar for weird???? Literally the most normal thing I’m doing right now

instead of a temperature blanket I'm going to make an infinitely more depressing light pollution blanket where the colours are just the colours of the sky out my window at night

so i'm crocheting a temperature blanket this year. my initial instinct was to say it's for my 32nd year but that's not actually how birthdays work so instead i'm awkwardly going with "the year i'm 32" and shortening it to just 32 mostly. anyway, that's besides the point.
i have the colour palette/yarn, i have the pattern (toni lipsey's linen stitch pixel temp blanket), i made a gauge swatch, i've started tracking temps (i've recorded hi/lo starting on dec. 8).... but fuck, i'm having so much trouble figuring out the temperature gauge!!!
i can't decide what the intervals should be, i can't decide if i want purples to be warm temps or cold temps or where to put the neutrals, i can't decide if i want to fiddle/tweak(/cheat?) and use the lows for the cold temps instead of the high which was the initial plan.... i just don't know!!! ugh.

You absolutely cannot cry around Shoto Todoroki because he treats it the same as if you caught a cold and doesn’t leave you alone nor get over it for 4 (four) whole business days

This year, I've decided to try a crochet every day project. I'm crocheting a flower each day and stitching them onto a blanket, and by the end of the year I'll have a flower field. Here are the flowers from week 1: two daisies, three creeping phlox, two poppies.

Hopping on the color temperature discourse train to say that I love the mental image of like— reversing the association of red and blue and having blue represent summer temps— thinking of summer blue skies and the ocean. Red for winter temps bringing to mind cheeks red with cold and holly berries and cardinal feathers. Idk I just think that’s neat!
i, too, think it's neat!!!
I also just like the idea of-- specifically on the topic planning of Temperature Blanket™ palettes-- not being so literal with "cold" colors and "hot" colors. if you CAN get creative with it, I think it's boring NOT to.
It's a year long project, so it needs to be interesting. as an aside, I also like the idea of leaving color palettes behind entirely, and doing a very straightforward gradient scheme as your temperature gauge. Like buying yarns like this that are already dyed into a gradient, and just being like "ok. done."
just pick which end of the spectrum is High temps and which one is Low temps, and get cracking. It doesn't have to be symbolic of the Season the temperatures would occur in at all.

Ohhhkay!
So like the last couple of years I have attempted to crochet what's known as a temperature blanket, which is a blanket thats made throughout the year that chronicles the temperature of each day by yarn color. Everyone does theirs differently, I've seen people do like one row per day, one granny square per day, split the rows into separate days, etc etc
However! I haven't yet been successful in completing one. I'll get like partway through the year and then miss a few days and then just can't get myself to catch up. But I really really wanna finish one cause they're so cool, and I think maybe chronicling it online might help? Idk it's worth a shot
So this is my color key
I'm going to be making 49 granny squares with 7 rounds each, each round representing one day, and then the last 3 weeks will create a border around it to finish the blanket. I'm using this pattern
(Pattern is from this book, which I found at my local library)
I know im like a couple weeks behind so I'm gonna be making the squares for Jan 1st-7th and Jan 8th-14th today, so I'll probably post the finished squares later this evening
Wish me luck!

Sometimes I just genuinely think I’m a coldblooded animal because of how sensitive I am to temperature change from outside sources. I drink some ice water and my entire body just gets freezing cold. I lay under some blankets and within like 3 minutes I feel like I’m going to die but then I take the blankets off and I am cold again. I turn my fan off and on and off and on constantly because it’s never just the right temperature for me!!!!!
