#it's not just sherlock I cry at so many movies and shows

Note
Are there any moments in Sherlock that made you cry, or damn near?
I cry very easily at shows so...yes. There are many.
Soo-Lin's death in The Blind Banker was the first time I cried while watching Sherlock, and it still gets to me after all this time. Even now, tears well when I hear the music.
I cried in anxiety the first time I watched The Great Game and it was a child's voice on the phone, counting down.
The Reichenbach Fall is the episode that I basically cry consistently through. When people doubt Sherlock, when the kids are found, when the girl screams, the phone call, when Sherlock 'dies' and at John's speech at his grave. Basically the entire thing.
I cried at Sherlock's speech in The Sign of Three as well, like all the characters did.
Of course, Mary's death destroyed me and I sob like a baby every time, particularly when John begins to wail.
The Lying Detective is the other episode that makes cry loads: Sherlock being sad, Sherlock being depressed, happy tears at the nice conversations between Sherlock and fake Faith, tears at John beating him up, tears at Sherlock being almost killed. The Hug scene makes me bawl.
The Final Problem gets me when the truth about Redbeard is revealed and Sherlock himself starts to cry. And the final montage with Mary's voice over? Every single time, I sob. See, I told you I cry loads.

fic recs
Tumblr media
just a little assortment of my favorite works to keep track of them and also show love to the respective writers.
note - a majority, if not all, of the following works contain dark content that some could find triggering. tread carefully.
Tumblr media
divider by @firefly-graphics
toxic affection - @love-toxin
warnings: harassment, bullying, some violence, forced relationship
pairing: yandere!bakugou x reader
literally unashamed to say that BNHA fanfiction is what brought me to Tumblr
but this was one of the first I found and it's epic
what's your escape - @gotnofucks
warnings: obsession, possessive behavior, non-con
pairing: dark!sherlock holmes x reader
the man is disastrously down bad for the poor reader
she was so witty and clever but in the end, he got what he wanted in the most satisfying way
infatuation - @darkficsyouneveraskedfor - masterlist
warnings: mentions of stalking, obsession, non-con
pairing: dark!clark kent x reader
poor girl didn't have a clue or a chance in the world to escape this man
sidenote: I can't add Roo to the recs without mentioning just how talented she is. She was the first proper introduction to dark fics in the Marvel fandom and I've been hooked ever since. The amount of detail and dedication that goes into her work is noticeable and she's a talent that deserves recognition. It's one thing to make me like a fic or two of my favorite Marvel men but another to have me thirst over shit I didn't think I'd like.
naughty ransom holiday tales - @jtargaryen18
warnings: kidnapping, non-con, dub-con
pairing: dark!ransom drysdale x reader
guilty pleasure series
hate to love ransom but I can't help it

warnings: character death, jealousy, non-con
pairing: dark!steve rogers x reader, peter parker x reader
modern vampire au (what's not to love there)
this actually made me cry like a bitch
ongoing series
sidenote: Seeing as Cherie will be on this list many times, I have to say it's difficult not to add every piece of work on this list because while some writers have a magnum opus, everything she writes is a work of art. Her range and the backstory she puts in her characters make each story feel like a movie I just can't get enough of. Will forever love her writing.
kryptonite - @cherienymphe
warnings: non-con, obsession

Iron Man (2008)
Tumblr media
As mentioned in last post, when I went to Iron Man I literally had no idea that such a superhero existed. (I thought Sherlock Holmes with RDJ came out first but apparently not so I had essentially no knowledge of the actor either.) My friends and I decided to spend the day out at the nearest town big enough to have a book store, craft stores, and a Target, as well as a Drive-In movie theater. I was now a college student and enjoying the freedom of no curfew, rebel that I was. I'm pretty sure the movie prior to Iron Man was the Narnia: Prince Caspian movie. I mention this because I hated that movie. It bastardized the book something awful and after the first movie was so faithful an adaptation, this was incredibly disappointing. However, this meant I was doubly primed to appreciate the awesomeness that Iron Man ended up being. I've watched it a few times since then, but usually as background to something else. I decided for this challenge I did REALLY want to watch the movies/shows. No other distractions- just it. I can take breaks (it took me 3 days to finish Iron Man due to various constraints last week) but when I'm watching, I'm JUST watching.
Here were my takeaways this time
The differences in Terrence Howard's Rhodey and Cheadle's Rhodey are always a bit mind boggling and part of what makes Iron Man feel really different from the later films. We're also just starting MCU so while they aren't LACKING budget, it's not the level it would be later. This doesn't hurt the movie at all for the record, if anything I think it meant the story had to be more well-developed and the actors better.
But this first film has a seriousness and a somberness that most of the other films only flirt with (notable exception being Infinity War of course).
The scene where Tony goes back to help Gulmira, Yinsen's home, and we see the 13 year old boy screaming and crying as his father is pried away from their family, the soldiers clearly planning to execute him and all the other grown men. The young boy tears himself away from his mother to his father, determined to keep him, to save him. His father, begging his son to go, so that he will live even though he knows- he KNOWS he will not. This moment of utter terror made personal just before Tony shows up is incredible and all the more so when put into historical context. The U.S. was still in Afghanistan and Iraq at this time and it was easy for citizens here to paint everyone in those areas with the same brush. But in this moment you CAN'T. You HAVE to see the family ripped apart right alongside the terrorists and be forced to realize that race, ethnicity, language don't make terrible people- actions do.
A common criticism of Marvel movies is they don't let a moment sit- that they always break a serious moment with a joke. But this one doesn't do that. There are multiple heavy moments- after Yinsen's death for one and when Pepper nearly quits (because she can't watch Tony self-sabotage and possibly die) and he tells her:
"I shouldn't be alive... unless it was for a reason. I'm not crazy, Pepper. I just finally know what I have to do. And I know in my heart that it's right."
This moment sits between them so clearly, so starkly and it is not ended with a joke, but with Pepper grabbing the flashdrive and asking what to do. (Thinking back, I'm wondering how many of those MCU "broken" moments are by Tony. He's the one uncomfortable with emotion. Him breaking those moments with humor is actually 100% in character. Something to pay attention to as I watch.)
Finally, and perhaps most importantly, some of the key themes of this movie just strike to the heart.
Death from a distance is easy to ignore or even be complicit in, but death up close rips us apart. Tony sold weapons that he knew took lives for years but it wasn't until he watched Yinsen die that I think he really understands what that means. Yes, his parents had died before but he wasn't THERE, he didn't SEE it. This death, this is the one that makes him really know what it means.
You don't have to change everything to be a better person. Tony is still self-centered. He still likes attention. He's still arrogant and as we will see next movie, open to playing the field as Pepper and him haven't committed. But not only has he stopped being complicit in the deaths of the innocent, he's taken on the mantle of protecting them.
Lastly, who the good guys are is largely a matter of perspective. This obviously gets hit harder again in Ultron (oh that glorious train wreck- I'm looking forward to writing about you), but it matters here. Tony was fine manufacturing weapons because he assumed he was supporting the "good guys", the 'Muricans. But not only was Obadiah dirty dealing, he is forced to learn the good guys aren't always as discriminatory with their weapon use as they purport to be. That it's easy to start painting with broad brushstrokes in areas where precision is actually called for.
Overall I'm really glad I PAID attention to this one this round. The grittiness and the depth really hit the way they did the first time or even more so. Onward to The Incredible Hulk, even though it's only semi-canon now.
Note for me:
Directed by: Jon Favreau

I grew up reading fics and I'm just grateful to have found them. I love how impacted I feel by the writing, kicking my feet and giggling with the fluff, smothering laughs under my covers with crack fics, crying my eyes out with the angst, feeling bittersweet with fix-its that make canon tragedies hurt worse. I love reading about the same idiots falling in love hundreds of times in different ways, I love the fics that purely explore character thoughts or platonic dynamics.
I love Modern AUs so much, the ways authors incorporate canon elements in little details & modernise characters, it's so endearing to me. I love seeing how the story changes in AUs based on other shows or movies.
I love how I gasp at some prompts because of how they're giving me what I never knew I needed. I love seeing fanon incorporated in or even created by fics. I love the little notes in chapters where the authors talk about their thoughts. I love giving kudos to each single fic I read.
I love how engrained some are in my head that I think about them years later. I love how til this day Hydrangeas remind me of John & Sherlock in that Actor AU fic. I love how standup reminds me of that Erik & Charles fic. I love how I can't listen to Mitski's I bet on losing dogs without thinking of Aemond & Lucerys in that modern AU fic. I love how authors incorporate High Valyrian for Rhaenyra & Daemon and the fact that his dragon has POV fics.
I love how some fics have actually taught me things, introducing me to paintings, poetry or songs. I love how authors might get inspired by something random and craft beautiful stories out of it.
I feel so lucky to have had this for so many years of my life. No matter how life gets, I have many other universes I can be in.

How could you translate Katniss' internal thoughts to screen?
If you become the screenwriter for the new adaptation, what would you do?
Are there any movies or tv series which have good example of this type of narration?
Thank you 😊
@curiousnonny
Oh tough question @curiousnonny. I've literally been sitting on this one for at least a year because I've been trying to figure out how the heck I would translate more of her internal thoughts to the screen. I will say this...
I have such mixed feelings about what Gary Ross and company decided to do for the films. I get why they did it, but man did it suck at times. What I mean by that is, they turned Katniss and Peeta into The Watson character. By that, I mean that in the original Sherlock Holmes stories, Watson's role was primarily to ask questions and doubt Sherlock's theories in order to give Sherlock a chance to explain what happened and show off his so called "genius."
Haymitch has to explain certain things about the Games to Katniss and Peeta that, in the books, THEY ALREADY KNOW because they live in this world and are not idiots. And the thing is, the movies showed that the film makers DID grasp the concept of how to show us a little and trust the audience to figure out the rest. Gale's thirty second rant in the woods about "What if everyone just stopped watching... It's sick. You root for your favorites and cry when they die" (paraphrase). Movie!Gale tells us something about the Games that we get from Katniss's internal thoughts in the books. And that is that while the districts hate the Games...they partake in them. Katniss tells us about how people in 12 ENGAGE in the betting. It's become a cultural thing so that even though there are people who know the tributes, even though it might one day be you or your sweetheart or your child in the arena, the Games are STILL treated as a form of entertainment on some level...even in the districts. And Katniss knows this, which the movie shows when she tells Gale "That'll never happen" (another paraphrase).
There's also the odds board that we see very briefly in the Capitol. Now we the audience know, just from those handful of seconds, that there's wagering on the Games, without Katniss telling us. More brief scenes like that would help with the world building.
Which leads me to... it works better as a tv series. It's written by a television writer and the story is blocked and paced like a tv series. And I cannot believe that I am saying this, knowing that it winds up being so hated by so many of the fans by the final season, but Game of Thrones the tv series, at least in the first season, did a phenomenal job of translating an entire book to screen. I've only read one book and watched two seasons, so I cannot speak to later seasons/books, but wow. Just... do THAT with The Hunger Games. The added length of a tv series gives you the advantage of more scenes and less of the book being cut out. You have the luxury of included so many of the characters that got cut from the movies, which all of that will naturally bring more of Katniss's thoughts and feelings, and understanding of her world, to the forefront.
But you can't stop there, you need an actress who, at a rather young age, can tell an entire story in just a few facial expressions to play Katniss. Not to bash Jennifer Lawrence because there were some parts of her portrayal of Katniss that were excellent, but I felt like her acting was hit or miss sometimes, and at others her portrayal suffered because of both the script and the editing. Sorry not sorry. So casting is key to bringing her internal thoughts to life through acting.
From there, I hate to say it, but at some point, you do have to trust your audience to be able to pick up on things. I think you do need to include a few flashbacks, but you can slow roll them. Show us Peeta giving her the bread in flashback then cut back to Katniss on stage looking slightly horrified and confused. Peeta's trying to talk to her on the train, return to the flashback and show his mother hitting him. Let current Katniss show just a flicker of guilt followed by slight annoyance and determination. You can even keep the flashback silent, if you want. Peeta's helping clean up drunk, vomit covered Haymitch and tells Katniss that he doesn't need her help and doesn't want the Capitol attendants. In her train compartment, Katniss shows us the whole thing, starting with her Mom being nonresponsive, an emaciated Prim, a picture of her father on the mantle with the black ribbon over it and a picture of the whole family next to it. Ah yes. Audience can now deduce that Katniss's father is gone and Mom's a wreck, the family is falling apart. Then give us the sound. Katniss pawing through the trash, Mrs. Mellark screaming at her, and the gift of the bread. Your audience is smart enough to take it from there.
You'd have to give us the dandelion part later on, too, but I actually think you could work that in somehow during the arena. Have Katniss find some dandelions after the girl from 8 dies. She can stare at them, cut to the flashback of the day after the bread. K&P share a look and then end it. She sees the dandelion. Prim can mention the bread, causing Katniss to look away from the dandelion, maybe ask how Katniss got it, and then Katniss goes into the woods to gather dandelions for her family to eat. Cut back to Katniss in the arena, confusion playing on her face until she remembers she's on camera and drops the mask back down. There is so much that can be done with one second of emotion that quickly changes to something else in this situation, and while they did manage some of that with Jennifer Lawrence, I don't think they used the technique to its full advantage.
The problem is that the movies were inconsistent with how they handled this problem of translating what Katniss tells us/says to us onto the screen. At times, they spoon fed us too much and did it in the form of spoon feeding information to Katniss and Peeta that they would've already known, making our protagonists look like idiots. At other times, like with the bread flashback, they didn't give us enough, so we don't understand the stakes and the significance of that moment. Fix the inconsistencies, and I actually think they were kind of on the right track with the movies, they just didn't follow through completely or effectively.

What would be their favorite series?
Tumblr media
(the gif is not mine)
Swiss: Gossip Girl
NO matter what anyone says, Swiss is sassy. He must be the one who turns on the TV with a bottle of wine and switches to Gossip Girl (Cirrus and Cumulus are also watching it with him) I can also see him wearing pink to watch the new Barbie movie. W rizz for Swiss.
Sodo: The Walking Dead
I have nothing to add, that's it and that's it
Aether: Friends
I think Aether likes comedy and this series matches his energy. I'm sure Chandler and Rachel are one of his favorite characters. Chandler gives me an Aether vibe.
Rain: Never Have I Ever
One word RomCom. Rain is the one who gets into bed after a hard day and takes out the tissue (😈) , bring the rest of the wine left by Swiss and watch a romantic movie (in this case, a series) THIS GHOUL NEEDS LOVE. END OF STORY.
Mountain: Peaky Blinders
Crime, drama, history, series? It's the best together. Now imagine him dressed in a suit like a big gang leader. Our dear calm Ghoul is the biggest criminal (only in his mind). If he was invited to appear in a series like Peaky Blinders, the poor thing would pass out. (if I were not writing about a series right now, The Godfather would be a dream choice for Mountain)
Phantom: Shameless
I don't know why, but when I think of Phantom, this series somehow jumps into my mind. Don't ask me, but I stand by this opinion.
Cirrus: Lucifer
I know you've been waiting for this word. I don't need to say much about this series, I think everyone knows it, Cirrus first started watching because she was curious how people could see Lucifer. And later she became addicted to this series. Are there new parts? No one could go near the TV until Cirrus had watched the last new episode.
Cumulus: American horror story
Hear. Me. Out. Cumulus LOVES horror and what could be better than a horror movie? A horror series. She watches American Horror Story alone. She likes to pay attention to details and there are many of them in this series, so she can watch it happily without any distractions. (btw, I think Phantom is afraid of horror movies, so Cumulus doesn't even watch similar movies around him)
Sunshine: Wednesday
I think Sunshine LOVES the supernatural sleazy series. I'm sure her other favorite is Teen Wolf. Well, back to Wednesday. As I wrote last time, Sunshine is an energy bomb who loves to move, go and explore. There is a werewolf girl named Enid in the series. I think Sunshine and Enid (as a character) could be the same person. They move all day, they smile all the time, they bring joy to people's lives.
Aurora: Euphoria
This woman is a mood, just like euphoria. (I haven't seen the entire series, so if what I'm writing is not correct, I'm sorry in advance) The protagonist of Euphoria wants to escape from the world. I think that's what Aurora did when she found this band. The fact that Aurora can finally feel at home means a life to her. I think this series shows her the path she took, and I'm also sure that she wouldn't be able to watch it even once without crying. (I don't know who believes that Ghouls and Ghoulettes are actually demonic beings. I like this ASSUMPTION. I don't know who's thinking and what and I can't prove anything against anything. But even if it's the case that they're not human, I don't think Aurora was summoned by them either. I think Aurora was once summoned by someone and she was stuck on the Earth looking for what she had to do here and not in hell. That's when she met Papa. BUT this is my opinion, this is not true, i mean is possible, but I am sure that it is not, but that is beside the point. Everyone can think what they want or not?.)
Copia: Sherlock
Copia always gives me such a vintage vibe, don't ask me I don't get it either. But the feeling is that when Copia can immerse himself in a series, then only Sherlock can be considered here. Papa Sherlock. Give this man a magnifying glass, a pipe and a hat and we have the happiest leader.

A and B for the fandom asks!
Heyaaaa thanks for these : )
A - Ships that you currently like a lot. (They don’t have to be OTPs because not everyone has OTPs.) Friendships, pairings, threesomes, etc. are allowed.
Well number 1 has to be my ineffables, Crowley/Aziraphale from Good Omens. I’ll read allllll the fic - the angsty post s02 pining/reunion fics, the post s01 long friendship realized fics, the south downs retirement fics, hell even the human au fics (although those are a bit more hit or miss for me). I just cannot get enough of them!!! They are the ultimate to me. The outpouring of fic and art and meta post s02 makes being in the fandom extra fun rn. Also I like both the ace and allo interpretations, if the writing is good.
My number 1 used to be Johnlock, specifically from BBC Sherlock. While we all know how that show fucked up, Johnlock fic still has a special place in my heart and I find myself revisiting favorites often. Similar to Good Omens, the post s02 Reichenbach fall hiatus art/fic/meta was a great great time and makes me smile to remember it.
Nick x Charlie from Heartstopper are adorable and sweet and are definitely my fluffy pairing. Alex and Henry from RWRB are like their older siblings in a way - I just love them too (more book versions for Alex and Henry, although the movie was lovely, I just feel like the book goes more in depth).
Also love Merthur (specificially from BBC Merlin). I don’t even really like the show??? but I looovveeee the fic world, especially when the whole ensemble makes an appearance. Modern AUs are really fun for me in this verse.
Gotta shoutout my OG ot3 Parker/Hardison/Elliot from Leverage. Their canon relationship was beautifully developed and I love when fic takes it to the next level. Lots of found family vibes, idiots to lovers, all the best tropes.
The first ship I ever read fic for was Rose x The Doctor (Nine or Ten) over on whofic.com. They’re still a huge ship for me (Doomsday still makes me cry fuck) so even tho I don’t seek out fic as much anymore I still reblog a lot of gifsets and stuff.
I was on the Stucky train HARD for the longest time, and I still go back and read fic, especially from the Winter Soldier or Endgame fix it era. Another Marvel ship I read a lot of was Matt/Foggy from the Netflix Daredevil. Avengers era ensemble fics (everyone living in Stark Tower) are also a favorite.
I went hard on Drarry for a while and I still go back to certain fics but I wouldn’t say it’s a current favorite per say.
Gonna save my last big favorite ship for the next question cause it fits really well.
B - A pairing–platonic, romantic or sexual–that you initially didn’t consider, but someone changed your mind.
So!! My last big main ship is Bagginshield (Thorin/Bilbo from the Hobbit) and this is one that I didn’t really even get into until I read The Riven Crown by beautifulfiction. She was one of my fave Sherlock authors and so when I saw she had written Hobbit fic I was like welllllll normally I don’t read fic of written media (especially Tolkien cause I grew up reading Middle Earth); but it’s B soooo I’ll give it a try. And oh my fucking god I was HOOKED. And now Bagginshield is probably #3 in terms of how many fics I have bookmarked and how often I think about them lol. Richard Armitage knew what the fuck he was doing as Thorin in those movies. I also love the ensemble aspect with all the dwarves and I love fics (like the Riven Crown) where it gets into the bureaucracy of rebuilding a kingdom like Erebor and also rebuilding trust in the aftermath of Thorin’s gold lust.
There’s other pairings I love (Booth/Brennan from Bones, Kanthony from Bridgerton, all the Sense8 relationships, some Zutara) but I think these are the main ones for me.
Send me a letter from this list

The song called Should I Stay Or Should I Go is from the game called Far Cry 4, and I gotta say I have a special relationship with that part of the game series and with the series itself.
I first heard Stayin' Alive in BBC Sherlock, one of my favourite TV shows to this day. It's definitely worth a watch.
I know Ain't No Rest For The Wicked from the TV series Lucifer, a show I enjoyed, but couldn't find the time to finish.
Hip To Be Square is a classic, it's mostly known from American Psycho. (I mention this movie in one of my one-shots) Also that movie is still golden and if you haven't seen the clip where the song is played, shame on you; go and watch it! :)
Into The Mind is a song from the video game called The Evil Within, the game that got me into the horror genre and with that into the more complicated backstories.
The World Is Gonna End Tonight is a song from Far Cry 5, the first Far Cry game I ever played and with that it's my favourite from the series to this day./
Once again, thank you for the tagging and sorry for the rambling! :)

Hi Lovely!
Ahhh, I could be better! At the time you sent this (because I know this will be drafted for awhile since I'm using it as an excuse to post a new list), the sunshine is FINALLY showing itself after nearly two months of cloudy weather. Sunshine affects my mood positively, so while my normal bleh feelings are still there, it's not overwhelming anymore.
Thank you so much for your kind words on my blog! I'm glad you enjoy it, and I hope others do too :)
That said, and as I alluded to in the first paragraph, I'm going to take this opportunity to finally publish my FTL Pt. 3 list! WOOOOOO!! Hope you enjoy, and everyone please add your own!

Enemies to Friends to Lovers
Evermore by SosoHolmesWatson (G, 2,068 w., 1 Ch. || Post-S4,  5-Year-Old Rosie, Love Confessions, Song Fic, Parentlock, Oblivious John, Pining Sherlock, First Kiss, Love Confessions, Fluff, Friends to Lovers, Disney Songs, Beauty and the Beast) – For the past years, John and Sherlock have lived at Baker Street again, raising Rosie together--as friends and nothing more. Ever since the little girl has watched her first Disney movie, she is obsessed with princesses. When John comes home one day, he finds his friend and his daughter in the middle of a reenactment of her current favourite. Part 1 of Made of Music
A Gossamer Dream by CarmillaCarmine (E, 15,985 w., 4 Ch. || Writer/Teacher AU || First Meetings, Friends to Lovers, Writer John / Teacher Sherlock, Fluff, London, Holding Hands, Online Friendship / Romance, Phone Sex, Anal Sex, Happy Ending, Alternating POV, Scottish John, Online Relationship, Internalized Homophobia, Hand Holding, Forehead Touching, First Kiss/Time, Texting/Sexting, Rimming, Toplock, Sherlock Speaks French) – Sherlock had never realised one could care so much about someone they'd never met in person. Now he is about to meet the friend with whom he's been chatting online for months and his anticipation is reaching a crescendo.
Permanent Fixture by vitruvianwatson (E, 18,836 w., 9 Ch || Post-S4, Parentlock, Slow Build, Friends to Lovers, They’re Good Parents, Blushing Sherlock, First Kiss/Time, Explicit Consent, Sexual Content, Emotional Hurt/Comfort, Mutual Pining, Big Feelings, Crying, First Kiss, Fluff, Anxious Sherlock, Inexperienced Sherlock, Emotional Communication, Love Confessions) – Now, as Rosie sat curled up against Sherlock’s side, John watched and wondered exactly how he had ended up here. Domesticity had never suited him before, not at any point in his life. His disastrous marriage had been proof of that. But somehow, here in the warmth and safety of 221B Baker Street, here with Sherlock Holmes reading medical jargon to his daughter, Sherlock’s bony feet nudging against his leg, John couldn’t imagine anyplace that would make him happier.
Division by MrsNoggin (E, 19,542 w., 11 Ch. || Coffee Shop AU || First Kiss/Time, Fluff, Barista Sherlock, Clingy Sherlock, POV John, John’s Limp, Bed Sharing, Fluff, Sleepy Cuddles, Sensuality, Touching, Virgin Sherlock, Insecure John) – John likes mysteries. And every morning he dips into the local independent coffee bar with his newspaper and ponders another... one Sherlock Holmes.
How To Unfold a Heart by elwinglyre (E, 25,477 w., 7 Ch. || Post S4 Fix It, BAMF John, Mentioned Eurus, POV First Person Sherlock, Case Fic, Fluff, Slow Burn Topping from the Bottom, 3 Yr Old Rosie, Introspection, Sexual Fantasies, John Worship, Ogling, Hand Holding, Kidnapping, Domesticity, Sherlock Whump, First Kiss/Time, Doctor John, Caring John, Soft Sherlock, Sensuality, Touching, Crying, Love Confessions, Anxious Sherlock, Rimming, Toplock, Fingering, Bossy Bottom John) – To Sherlock’s dismay, John’s return to Baker Street with Rosie is only temporary. Sherlock’s daily visits to Regent Park with John and Rosie illuminate his lost childhood memories and missed opportunities. But with each trip to the park, Sherlock also feels a growing sense of hope. That is until the past horrors return unexpectedly in a cryptic note folded in the shape of a heart. To decipher the message, Sherlock must uncover the nature of the hearts around him, including his own.
Rupert Street by WritingOutLoud (M, 27,262 w., 9 Ch. || Alternate First Meeting || Case Fic, Sexuality, Demisexual Sherlock, Drugging, Smart John, Sherlock Has Internalized Biphobia, Fluff, Angst with Happy Ending, Gay Bar, Flirting, John Manipulates Sherlock to Eat, John Deduces, Arguments, Kidnapping/Torture, Hospitalization, John Whump) – Discharged from the war with nothing but the clothes on his back and a realisation of his bisexuality, John Watson has to learn who he’s become. He can’t afford London on an army pension, but the city is the only friend he has. In an effort to understand his newfound queer identity, he heads to a bar one night, where he stumbles across a mysterious stranger who turns his life upside down. ‘I dug around inside myself, and I'm not quite sure what I found, but it was beautiful and terrifying all at the same time.’
Sunday Evening 6 p.m. by Silvergirl (E, 30,712 w., 6 Ch. || Post-TRF / TEH Divergence, Grief / Mourning / Stages of Grief, Mutual Pining, Dreams, Reunion, Love Confessions, First Kiss / Time, Alternating First Person POV, Smart John, BAMF Boys, Emotional Love Making, Song Fic, Referenced Suicide, First Kiss / Time, Touching, Sleepy Sherlock, Blow Job, Villain Mary) – Six months after Sherlock jumped, he learns that John is dedicating songs to him on a requests-only radio programme. Is John just working through grief? Or is he—communicating? Fixes the hell out of S3 by pre-empting it altogether. Remember, as TAB told us, John is Pretty Damn Smart.
Deck the Halls by itsalwaysyou_jw (T, 31,018 w., 24 Ch. || Advent Fic / Multiple One-Shots, Assorted Tags) – One Johnlock ficlet for every day leading up to Christmas. Who is ready for pining, first kisses, established Johnlock, and everything in between? This collection of stand-alone ficlets will have it all.
Lucifer's Gardens by ampersand_ch (E, 32,679 w., 12 Ch. || GERMAN VERSION || Romance, Friendship, Friends to Lovers, Murder, Poison / Drugging, Mystery, John Undercover, Academic Club, Therapy, Rituals, Jungian Archetypes, Doctors & Physicians, Grief/Mourning, Esotericism, Hospitals, Emotional Hurt/Comfort, Love Confessions, John Falls In Love With Another Man, Jealous Sherlock, Crying, Doctor John, Hand Holding, First Kiss/Time, Mysticism, Hugging, Touching) – John goes undercover for an investigation as a favour to Lestrade in a village in Suffolk. The events surrounding the case awaken deep-seated fears in Sherlock. While John begins to come to a realisation of what he needs in Lucifer's Gardens, Sherlock tries to find a way to reach John – in more ways than one.
The Hollow Woman by ScopesMonkey (M, 51,335 w., 22 Ch. || Post-TRF, Major Character Death, Mystery, Romance, Friendship, Family, Angst, Crime, Reunion, First Kiss / Time, Nightmares, Doctor John, Jealous Sherlock, Jealous John, BAMF John, Angry John, Dub-Con, Rough Sex, Bottomlock, Possessive John, Villain Mary, Open Ending) – Forced to return to London sooner than expected, Sherlock falls into a case too close to home. Part 1 of the Hollowverse series
Isosceles by SilentAuror (E, 56,609 w., 7 Ch. || Post-S4, POV John, Original Male Character / Sherlock Dates Another Man, Love Triangle, Jealous John, Virgin Sherlock, Sexual Coaching, Angst, Romance, Domesticity, Unrequited Feelings, Miscommunication, First Kiss/Time, For a Case, Friends With Benefits, Bottomlock, Love Confessions, Spooning) – After solving a case for a major celebrity, Sherlock gets himself asked out. When John asks, he discovers that Sherlock has no intention of going, at least not until John agrees to coach him through whatever he might need to know for his date...
Gold Rush by ShirleyCarlton (E, 71,783 w., 17 Ch. || Post S3 / No Mary, Friends to Lovers, Mentions of Past Sexual Abuse, First Kiss, Case Fic, Slow Burn, Alternating POV, Switchlock, Angst with Happy Ending, Marriage Proposal, Implied/Referenced Child Abuse, Abduction, Anxious/Insecure Sherlock, Miscommunication, Emotional Lovemaking) – John has divorced Mary and pops round to 221B one evening to find Sherlock in the middle of a case. As Sherlock tries to find the identity of a young woman’s stalker, John realises he can no longer deny his feelings for Sherlock – which then, to their befuddlement, turn out to be mutual. Shy kisses and tentative embraces ensue. But will Sherlock be able to cast off a shadow from his past that he thinks might prevent John from wanting to stay?
Northwest Passage by Kryptaria (E, 95,157 w., 27 Ch. || PODFIC AVAILABLE || Canadian AU ||  BAMF!John, Canadian John, PTSD, Anal / Oral Sex, Rimming, Emotional Hurt / Comfort, Drug Rehab, Falling in Love, Pining Sherlock, Love Confessions, Sherlock’s Violin, Panic Attacks, Switching, Anxious / Protective Sherlock, Hugs for Comfort, Suicide Mentions, Healing Each Other) – Seven years ago, Captain John Watson of the Canadian Forces Medical Service withdrew from society, seeking a simple, isolated life in the distant northern wilderness of Canada. Though he survives from one day to the next, he doesn't truly live until someone from his dark past calls in a favor and turns his world upside-down with the introduction of Sherlock Holmes." Part 1 of Tales from the Northwest
The Lost Special: Family Matters (As Do Relationships) by ShirleyCarlton  (M, 144,688 w., 40 Ch. || S4 Fix It Fic / Meta Fic, Unreliable Narrator, John’s Mind Bungalow, Friends to Lovers, Happy Ending, Demisexual Sherlock, Holmes Family, John Whump, Gay Mycroft, Misunderstandings, Drug Addiction, Parenting, TFP is a Nightmare, Virgin Sherlock, Slow Burn, Minor Character Death, Switchlock, John’s Past, Sherlock’s Past, Eurus, Love Confessions) – Sherrinford is not really the name of some high security prison. That was just a figment of John’s frantic coma dream. And Eurus is not actually Sherlock’s sister. That’s just something random she said to John before shooting him. Sherlock and John were never actually estranged. That was just their act to cover up what really happened to Mary – or Rosamund Moran, as her real name has turned out to be. Sherlock does have a secret sibling, though, and his name is Sherrinford. After finally eliminating Moran – though in a rather dramatically different way than they had envisioned – and exposing the truth about Eurus, John encourages Sherlock to delve into his past and to find out whether the reasons to keep Sherrinford away from Sherlock were the right ones, and to discover what really happened in 1981. Along the way, Sherlock and John gradually, finally, stop keeping each other at a distance, and eventually become a proper family of their own.
Against the Rest of the World by SilentAuror (E, 151,714 w., 20 Ch. || PODFIC AVAILABLE || Post-TRF, Hiatus Fic, POV First Person Sherlock, Present Tense, First Kiss/Time, Big Brother Mycroft, Escaping from Capture, Soft Sherlock, Toplock, Insecurity, Infidelity, Travelling, Introspection, Pining Sherlock, Depression, Fantasies, Yearning for the Past, PTSD Sherlock, Suicidal Ideation) – Sherlock has been away from London for nine hundred and twelve days and counting, and has no idea what sort of reception to expect when he finally returns.

tagged by @dangerliesbeforeyou <3 thank you!! ❤ ❤ My taste is absolute trash, and now you're exposing me haha. Don't judge me too hard guys
8 shows/films to get to know me
BBC Merlin
I think this one is obvious lol. It has played such a big role in my life and I'd definitely say it's one of those shows that I'd consider mine. I've become closer to so many people because of it, and have used it to break the ice with a lot of people
2. Friends
Pretty sure I'm sarcastic af purely because of this show. It's really influenced my sense of humour and was honestly a big obsession for me during my teenage years. It's still a big comfort show for me
3. BBC Sherlock (Seasons 1 and 2)
Another big obsession for me. But ONLY series 1 and 2. I was really into the dickhead genius who just wants to be loved trope for a while and after Sherlock wrote a lot of ocs like that lol. But honestly I really loved the cinematography and the way the genius elements were handled (even though people make fun of them now, I think in-universe it was done really well) and I love mysteries, and tbh Sherlock is so aroace coded so that's a plus for me cause I do love my dickhead genius trope
4. The Brendan Brady Cut of Hollyoaks
I think this is cheating because I'm choosing only one storyline of a massive soap but I could only watch that one storyline. But I swear like... firstly, it was one of the first few pieces of television to ever make me cry which is BIG. Secondly, it literally changed my way of thinking about certain things which is also huge, and Brendan is such a fucking nuanced and brilliantly written character like !!!
5. Kuch Kuch Hota Hai
I have this movie memorised idk what to tell you. It's so stupid and makes no sense and def has not aged well, but it's one of those movies that defined my childhood
6. Coco
Just changed me as a fucking person and makes me cry every time, and if I write an original script that has the same power and impact of this one film I'll die happy
7. Great Men Academy
Sometimes a show is just weird enough for you to be like... this one is for me. I know they didn't write it for me but it FEELS like they wrote it for me.
8. Drake and Josh
Another show I'm pretty sure made me sarcastic/greatly influenced my sense of humour
9. Glee
I KNOW THE SHOW GOT SHIT, but honestly... first couple of seasons did hit hard. It was really witty and it brought Darren Criss into my life (even though it was A Very Potter Musical that really solidified my crush on him). And tbh, growing up in India when I did, we didn't have a lot of exposure of the concept of homosexuality, especially in a positive light. Like I knew some gay people and my family has always been super accepting, but society as a whole still wasn't accepting, and people would constantly say things about gay people which was a bit ignorant, and I think Glee kinda was the first show with a sympathetic gay lead a lot of us (in my school at least) were exposed to and made us stop repeating a lot of the ignorant shit the generations above us said. Idk, I think it really did play a big part when it came to awareness and exposure and acceptance of a lot of minorities, esp in countries like mine
10. Game of Thrones
It also got shit by the end there, but I've got a lot of memories tied up in that show, I cannot deny that

my comfort media :] when i need to be comforted and i cant deal with everything and i just need that quality escapism, this is what i ... listen to/watch/read/absorb
music:
ok computer, the whole album is gourmet, helps me to sleep. also hesitant alien, it's so sweet and calming and it gives me the serotonin that my body is so reluctant to make.
podcasts/other listening:
i like true crime or just murder podcasts because they calm me down. if life gets too much, i like to hear about death in graphic detail, it's a bit funny but true. i also listen to rain sounds in the background of my music, or dark noise.
tv/watching:
for movies i like to watch studio ghibli, because they calm my soul and make me cry in a nice way. i also like watching horror movies, i haven't actually watched many but i'm trying. all the times that i have watched horror movies i've slept better than normal so i think that they calm me down. as for tv shows i like watching dr who, specifically ten and eleven because i watched them when i was a little kid and i know pretty much all of the episodes by heart. bbc sherlock also because i love the dynamics and the general sounds and the texture of them. OH AND ALSO romantic comedies because i used to watch them a lot and i still kind of love them. i also like shitty queer kids cartoons, like shera and the princesses of power, the owl house and adventure time. they comfort me a lot :]
books:
i reread heartstopper or other alice oseman books because i love them and they are so fluffy it's adorable. i read 1984 a lot, for some reason it makes me calm, also the original sherlock holmes stories. i like reading shitty romance novels as well because yk they distract me from the pain :D
activities:
i water plants because it's relaxing but also kind of productive. i also curl up under a blanket on the couch, and make really hot tea.
so yeah that's all my comfort stuff that makes me feel chilled out when i feel suboptimal :}

I have watched all 3 episodes of Dracula. What do I think of the show?
When it comes to Dracula himself, I have never read any books about him, never watched a movie about him or any other show whatsoever. Yet I knew who or what Dracula is. However the miniseries by Mark Gatiss and Steven Moffat has surprised me in many good ways and also hasn’t surprised me at all because the show is so predictible.
Let’s start from the beginning, shall we?
ATTENTION! POSSIBLE SPOILERS! IF YOU HAVEN’T SEEN THE SHOW, TURN AROUND AND DON’T READ FURTHER!
I had here a long, very long text about all three episodes but I decided to make it brief. No reason for me to spoil the episodes minute by minute right?
Episode one gives us an introduction into Dracula, Jonathan Harker, sister Agatha Van Helsing and Mina, Jonathans fiance.
We get to know how Jonathan become so sick, why he’s in the convent and so on. We also get to see how Dracula played by Claes Bang transforms from this old man
Tumblr media
to this handsome man.
Tumblr media
We also get quite interesting introduction between sister Agatha Van Helsing and Dracula himself but I am afraid that I’d get blocked have I posted the scenes here XD
Anyway, to be brief as I promised myself.
The show is not without faults. Three 1,5 h episodes are not enough to give us what we want. The first episode, yes does just that but the second and third? Not so much. I’m not saying the show is boring or bad, quite the contrary, however the third episode should be the best and yet in my opinion it is the weakest of them all even though the setting is the best.
Dracula in the future, in our times, a myth or a truth? Dracula can absorb knowledge and some memories through blood, as he says: blood is lives.
The first two episodes give us very good start of a story that could’ve been as good as BBC Sherlock if not for the, in my opinion, rushed episode 3 and its ending.
Episode 2 at its end introduces Dracula to the modern times, as we see he is underwater after Demeter blows up. We see Dracula destroying the lid of the coffin with his fist and walk on the bottom right to the shore of England to be met by Jonathan Harker Foundation CEO Zoe Van Helsing.
How Dracula gets out from the coffin is not the only WTF moment I get from this episode. There a few. I’ll list them below
- the coffin. How did he bolted the lid to the coffin itself? It had nails in! How?
- in episode 3 Dracula runs with the help of his bat friends and steals a modern tux since his clothes are wet beyond anything. I’m surprised they have survived salty water for so long (first plot hole)
- then we see Dracula in some couples home where the husband is dead in the white box - fridge - after of course feeding on him. Dracula wanted to feed on the woman too however she has a cross on a chain around her neck so that stops him
- We see for the first time a crying, emotional Dracula, he is watching the sunset on a TV but that’s not a WTF moment it’s just a interesting moment
- of course the Jonathan Harker foundation finds him which if I must confess is weird that the big machine that later destroys the house wan’t heard! I mean, seriously?! (second plot hole) Those things are loud even when they’re just in motion and not destroying anything.
- he has to go into the box but after they destroy a bit of the house, there’s sun shining on the box, so how is he suppose to get in the bloody box now?
- he manages to lure Zoe into the house but when he tries to feed on her he can’t because she has cancer and is dying, the blood is poisonous to him. He loses consciousness and is put into the box then transported into the JHF.
- he wakes up long enough to see Jonathan Harker painting and is put into big glass cage which is operated from the outside, so they are able to open the roof enough to scare him and keep him in place with the sun.
- I have big problem with this episode because he is given access to modern technology, to books mostly but he manages to figure out a password to WIFI which is his name (seriously?!) and he SKYPE calls a lawyer from the same law firm Jonathan Harker was 123 years ago. I can’t imagine that a lawyer knowing he is dealing with a real ass vampire, warlord and says he has rights like everybody else and they just give in? I know he, the lawyer, threatened them with exposing what they’re doing here but who would believe one man? After all, the Foundation works with mercenaries. That whole lawyer story is just so not original. I mean there’s a guy stationed at all times next to his bloody glass cage and he can clearly hear him so I’m like why haven’t he alerted them to him calling someone?! Why?!
- and since we are still in the Foundation basement or whatever - he is in the cage, they open the roof, the sun shines onto the part of the cage and yet when Zoe has to take his blood SHE needs to step or at the very least her hands need to be in the shadow since his hand cannot be in the sun. She threatened him with people and that they’d shoot him but we do know bullets do not work on him and before they’d be more people with stakes to kill him I bet he would be long gone.
- also why haven’t we seen any holy water being used against him, since he is the devil himself?
- When he is out, he is in this big apartment (where the money for that apartament come from?), working out, staying, living, goes out at night with Lucy and he is fascinated by her, says she came the closest to be his real bride.
What I don’t understand is this:
- how Dracula can see his reflection in the glass window when apparently he as a vampire shouldn’t have one?
- how come at the very end he doesn’t burn by the sun when Zoe throws off the curtain and there is not only the sun but also the cross sign? Shouldn’t he be affected? I know it is said that it’s only in his mind and yet, the original tells otherwise. It’s a bit like with the Doctor and the Master revelation... doesn’t sit right with me.
- Zoe is dying either way even after drinking Dracula’s blood which gives her a part of sister Agatha to talk to but we then see Dracula actually drink Zoe’s blood but I’m like - okay? So he drinks her blood, maybe now that she injected his blood he will be able to feed from her but then we see them both dead in the afterlife of some sort? Should at the very least Zoe be able to come back to life? Doesn’t it work that way?
- when we are at the topic of Zoe dying when Dracula feed from her, how come Agatha Van Helsing has died? From my understanding of the situation with Piotr in the beginning of episode 2, all it takes is one feeding for the person to be able to come back to life, yet she didn’t? Even though he feed from he multiple times?
The show would’ve benefited more if it was 8 one hour episodes instead of miniseries. From what I’ve gathered they’re thinking of doing season 2 but how could they bring them back to life? I have absolutely no idea.
Do I like the show itself? Yes I do. Even though the third episode could’ve been better thought through and flesh out I still enjoyed watching it.
Some stuff will bug me to no end, like with episode 3 of BBC Sherlock season 4 but that’s another story for another time, maybe.

my October watched! (i know it is mid November, college is rough, i did write the post in October as i completed the shows + movie though!)
Orange — it was rough but i was really glad kakeru lived in the end, in their parallel world. i was worried for a bit there when everyone was saying ‘you can’t change the past’ and kakeru was missing. but suwa suwa suwa… his character hurts so bad. The fact that his 26 year old self told his 16 year old self to basically sacrifice his own feelings in order for kakeru to live just hurt. especially when in car when they were all 26 and talking and Suwa basically says that he stole Naho from Kakeru, which he didn’t. and then everyone says if they could go back in time they wouldn’t root for suwa. They’d only root for kakeru. Everyone too was basically talking about Naho’s feelings in regards to kakeru like right in front of suwa too which felt rude asf at points. Idk, suwa’s character in particular, he just let himself get emotionally trampled and it was rough. i think naho’s character was really frustrating at times. she is just not very aware, and so it lead to misunderstandings. there was a time where Kakeru kept trying to hold her hand, and she was just confused. so overall very frustrating at times, but there was definitely a lot of cute moments. i did end up crying for like the last 15 minutes of the last episode. and not like sobbing or anything, but it was rough, i was very stressed watching it. tbf it was also like 3am at this point though. and while i was a suwa fan i definitely support kakeru and Naho in the end.
Ranking of Kings — I had taken a break from this one at some point, not because I didn’t enjoy it, I just get distracted and start watching something else lol. it happens more often than I’d like to admit, but I finished it and I’m really glad I did! this show made me feel so many emotions. I cried or felt like crying a multiple times throughout the show. Bojji is the best boy. He is so so kind and he deserves the world. Love that he and Kage were best buds. They’re so good man. Bojji’s fighting style is so cool, I’m glad it was centered around his strengths and while it may have been kind of op at times he absolutely deserves it. I really like the art in this one, especially just scenic shots. and i think the art suits the show really well. It was definitely darker than I had anticipated! I was kind of shocked at some of the scenes. but i think the violence that did happen made sense in the story. i really disliked the elixir daida had to drink, there’s a bit where they grind something up for it and i remember feeling so disgusted. also!! daida and Miranjo is so so weird!! If I was Hiling man, I would’ve said absolutely not. Daida may end up as king in the end but idc idc, i would not have let him make that choice. I’m really excited for Bojji’s future endeavors though!
Moriarty the Patriot — this is another one i has taken a break from and returned to. I really enjoyed it! I thought watching the crimes being set up was cool. This is one I’ll definitely go read the manga for. So many emotions in regards to this. Sherlock and William man… just bro… I don’t even know what to say. Crunchyroll put them in the enemies to lovers category so i think that explains my feelings well enough. i had to go tell my friend about them too. just Sherlock jumping after William, and the whole letter!! Letters in anime go crazy, man. They’re always so good.
Akira — I went into this blind, all I knew was cool motorcycle man, does a cool slide on his motorcycle that’s referenced in so so many things. (there’s compilation clips on YouTube, and it’s so cool to see how many different things have referenced it.) the violence? The weird blue children? Tetsuo’s massive fucking forehead? like insane. it was good though! tetsuo does kind of like immediately become a villain but tbf he is 15 and just became like almost the most powerful thing on earth so what can you do yknow? i did not like the sexual assault scene with kaori that did catch me off guard, and while i understand why it happened, I don’t think it was really necessary. i was not anticipating what Akira would turn out to be, and i certainly wasn’t expecting the gross flesh thing Tetsuo turns into, I’m so glad my desk faces the wall and not my roommate because I know I was watching my computer like (o_o). i did mention earlier about the violence, like i said i went into it blind so i was a bit surprised by the violence at first but i definitely got used to it, some of the deaths or at least injuries that happened were so brutal. it was crazy. i think if you’re bothered by violence than i wouldn’t recommend this lol. i thought the silhouettes of the characters were interesting! definitely indicative of the era with the skinny pants and big tops. kaneda’s whole red look, alongside the matching bike goes hard though. even when kaneda wasn’t in all red, and just had the yellow top on bro was killing it. i thought his little outfit with the pink polo and khaki pants was funny, like my brother would wear that. i thought the soundtrack and colors for the movie were really cool. i think overall it was just a wild ride, and it was certainly a lot (not that that’s a bad thing, as i did enjoy the movie)
currently watching and/or reading - mp100 s3, chainsaw man, blue lock, spy x family cour 2, and one piece!

for the film & tv ask game: 17, 25, 27, & 29
17. A show that you love to hate?
BBC Sherlock. That show is one of the most overrated overhyped bullshit shows ever. Also Benedict Cumberbatch is incapable of playing any characters different from pretentious privileged white man. He also looks like a horse.
25. Favourite television villian?
Hm. I guess the Corinthian. I won't lie, it took me way too long to come up with a proper villain for this but all the examples from when I was younger just don't work anymore (for example, I don't think SPN's Crowley is a villain at all).
27. Name a show that had the worst series finale, in your opinion?
Of the shows I've seen (which does not include HIMYM or GOT), VLD: Legendary Defender. They started so strong and gay, and while the entire final season was a bit of a train wreck, the last episode was... just... so bad. And the after-credits scene? Was worse. How to do complete injustice to initially well developed characters. Wow.
29. Favourite movie from the 90′s?
SHIT. This is a really difficult one because there are just so many great 90s films. Jumanji! Twister! 10 Things I Hate About You! (Which definitely is the best romcom ever). However, I think based on the number of rewatches I've done in more recent years I'll have to say the original Jurassic Park. The tune as they fly towards the island is still capable of making me cry. SO good.
