AN: Please be easy on me. I don’t write smut often. Normally, I have friends who ghostwrite it for me. But I’m challenging myself...

Duff looked out the window of the diner, watching people walking up and down the streets. Happy couples holding hands. Ones that hadn’t talked to someone they loved in weeks after the asshold lead singer kicked him out of the band. Duff sighed and uncapped his flask, pouring some of the liquid in the coffee he was drinking. He had been calling Steven on and off for weeks, but never got an answer. Of course he didn’t want to talk to him. Why would he? Duff had no way to prove that he disagreed with Axl’s decision. And Steven was smarter than anyone gave him credit for.

That’s because Duff couldn’t deny he didn’t agree with Axl, because the fucking asshole had brought it up while Duff was drunk off his ass, and he had just agreed to get the screeching voice to stop.

“Fuck,” Duff grumbled as he took a drink of his coffee.

“Gonna share any of that with us?” Duff heard a voice. It wasn’t anyone from the band. He had been avoiding them like the plague, especially after he saw Matt Sorum behind the drum set, and Axl insisted that they needed a full time keyboard player in the form of Dizzy Reed. They weren’t bad guys, but damn, they weren’t Steven.

Instead, he looked up to see three fourths of Motley Crue standing there.

“What are you guys doing here?” Steven asked. “Don’t you have Dr. Feelgood money to be blowing?”

“Jesus, what crawled into your leather pants?” Tommy asked, sliding into the booth across from him, Nikki by his side. Duff didn’t even have to look over to know Vince was sitting next to him now.

“Why don’t you guys go find Jani Lane or someone and bug him,” Duff groaned. Nikki, Tommy, and Vince all exchanged a look.

“What’s up?” Nikki asked.

“Nothing,”

“Really? Because the moping and spiked coffee tells us different,” Vince pointed out.

“You and Steven have a fight?” Tommy asked.

“We haven’t talked since Axl fired him. How can we have a fight?” Duff asked.

“Oh, that’s it,” Nikki had a smirk on his face.

“Why don’t you just call him?” Tommy asked with a shrug.

“Oh, that’s a brilliant idea Tommy. That’s why he’s sitting, being miserable in this fucking Denny’s,” Vince shook his head. “Did Athena get all the brains AND looks?”

“Hey!” Tommy was about to reach over the table to grab the blonde, but Nikki pulled him back down.

“I can’t take you two anywhere,” Nikki sighed. “Okay Duff, why won’t Steven answer your calls?”

“Because fucking Axl threw us all under the bus when he told Steven to hit the road,” Duff sighed.

“Well, then just tell Steven you didn’t agree with him and leave it at that,” Nikki shrugged. “God, am I the only smart one at this table?”

“Because I can’t say I didn’t agree with him,” Duff sighed. “Slash got us this really strong shit. And him, Izzy, and I were all drinking it. Steven was visiting his mom or something. And it was really good and Axl’s voice, well, you know how it is.”

“Yeah,” All three nodded.

“So I remember telling him “yeah sure” to whatever it was he was talking about. Slash and Izzy nodded too. And the next thing I know, he’s introducing us to Matt Sorum and telling us that Steven’s out.”

“Ouch,�� Tommy replied. Duff nodded.

“So I can lie to him, but Axl likes to run his mouth. He could’ve told him anything to make him hate me,” Duff laid his head on his arms. “I hate me right now.”

“God, you are hung up on him, aren’t you?” Vince asked, smiling and winking at the cute waitress that walked by. Tommy kicked him under the table, making Vince glare at him.

“What he means is, what can we do to help you two get back together?” Tommy asked.

“I don’t think he even wants me back,” Duff sighed. “And I don’t really blame him.”

“Oh come on,” Vince smacked his arm. “What isn’t to want? And where is this depressing attitude coming from? You’re Duff Mother Fucking McKagan!”

“What would you say if it was one of us in your shoes?” Nikki asked. “Would you let us sit here and wallow?”

“Yes,” Duff gave him a little smile. “And I know that you two can’t get rid of each other no matter how hard you try.”

“He’s stuck with me!” Tommy dramatically threw his arm around Nikki’s shoulder and placed a wet kiss on his cheek.

“God, that’s a threat right there,” Vince laughed. Duff did feel his mood lighten watching these three idiots from Motley Crue. No matter how many fights Axl and Vince got into, he could always count on them to help cheer him up.

“You should just go over to his place. Surprise him,” Tommy told him. “Who knows, maybe he’s waiting on you and you’re being an idiot, sitting in a diner with us three dumbasses.”

“You think I should?” Duff asked.

“I would,” Nikki told him. "I have before." He looked over at Tommy, who just smiled at him.

"Okay, I'm gonna go," Vince got out of the way so Duff could get out. "I'll see you guys later." Duff waved goodbye as the waitress came up to him.

"Okay, who wants his Grand Slam?" She asked. Vince was about to talk when Tommy reached out and took it with a smile on his face.

Duff drove in the direction of Steven's house. The sky was starting to darken and Duff had to groan. He hated the rare storms they got. And they always seemed to hit at the worst possible times.

And sure enough, as he parked his car, the sky let loose.

"Of fucking course," Duff sighed and climbed out of the car. He felt the rain soaking through his shirt and pants. He jogged up the sidewalk to the front door and knocked.

There was silence on the other side, and Duff was starting to think that the drive out here had been pointless, when the front door opened. There stood Steven.

He looked tired, his eyes not as bright as usual and even his hair seemed like it had the life sucked out of it. Duff locked eyes with him and felt many different emotions hitting him at once.

"Duff?" Steven asked. "What are you doing here?"

"I tried calling. You didn't answer," Duff told him. "Can I come in, please?" Steven stepped aside to let Duff in. “Are you okay? You didn’t answer my calls and I…”

“I, uh, didn’t pay my phone bill,” Steven admitted with a shrug. “I thought the only one who’d be worried about it would be my mom.”

“You know that’s a lie, right?” Duff told him, pushing his wet hair away. “Fuck Steven, I was worried. This has been the longest few weeks of my life.”

“You’re fine,” Steven shrugged. “You guys got Matt. I heard that single you guys released. Sounds good.”

“It’s not Guns n’ Roses,” Duff told him. “It doesn’t sound the same. Even Izzy agrees. Hell, Slash even knows.”

“It’s not enough to get Axl to let me back in,” Steven flopped down on the couch and looked down. Duff walked to him and knelt in front of him, his soaked clothes making the floor wet but he didn’t care.

“I don’t fucking care about Axl,” Duff told him. Steven looked up so he could look into his eyes. “I care about you. I love you. Guns n’ Roses could break up for all I care, as long as I know you’re okay.” He leaned forward and pressed his lips against Steven’s. He honestly wasn’t sure if Steven would kiss him back, but before Duff knew it, he was. “I love you.” Duff whispered, resting his forehead against Steven’s.

“I love you too,” Steven replied, closing his eyes. Duff leaned in and kissed him again, a little deeper this time. That’s when Steven seemed to realize that Duff’s clothes were soaked. “Duff?”

“Yeah?” He breathed.

“You’re gonna get sick,” Steven laughed a little and played with Duff’s wet shirt.

“California rain hates me,” Duff laughed. “Maybe I should get out of these clothes. You know, so I don’t get sick?” He gave Steven a smirk. Steven stood up and took his hand, leading him to his bedroom. It had been awhile since Duff had stepped foot in there. Normally, they hung out at Duff’s place when they weren’t on the road.

“You okay?” Steven asked, looking up at Duff.

“Better than I was just an hour ago,” The bassist gave him a smirk before pulling him to him and kissing him deeply. Steven moaned softly and slid Duff’s jacket off his shoulders, letting it fall to the floor. Duff pulled him closer, pressing against the shorter man. Steven reached to the hem of Duff’s t-shirt and pulled it off, letting the bassist help him get it over his head when they broke their kiss.

Duff immediately followed suit, pulling Steven’s shirt off before placing kisses on his neck. He smirked when he felt Steven shudder. The drummer was weak for neck kisses, something Duff had learned over the years.

“Fuck,” Steven whispered. Duff reached down and slid down the sweats Steven had been wearing, letting them pool at his feet.

“It’s almost like you knew I was coming over,” Duff chuckled. “Nice and easy clothes to get off.”

“Unlike you and your painted on clothes,” Steven smiled some before kissing Duff again. He popped the button on Duff’s pants before working them off the tall man. Duff barely had time to step out of his pants before Steven was pushing him to sit on the edge of the bed.

“Babe?” Duff asked. But he got his answer soon after when Steven knelt in front of him and pushed his legs apart.

“I missed you,” Steven whispered before wrapping his hand around Duff’s hardening cock and placing a kiss on the head.

“Fuck,” Duff bit his lip. “I’m paying your phone bill.” Steven just smiled at him before taking him slowly into his mouth. Duff looked down, watching as the other blond slowly bobbed his head, letting his tongue run over the head and down.

Duff closed his eyes after a moment. His hands found their way into Steven’s hair. Tugging lightly, he felt the drummer moan around him. In response, Duff tugged a little harder, urging Steven on. He took note and moved his mouth farther down Duff’s cock, stopping when it hit his throat.

“Babe,” Duff moaned. “Faster.” Steven hollowed his cheeks for a moment before bobbing his head, relaxing his muscles and letting Duff take charge of the pace. With his hands curled in Steven’s hair, Duff started moving his head at a faster pace, but he knew it wouldn’t last long. He didn’t want it to be over yet. He hadn’t been with his boyfriend in weeks, and he wanted this to last as long as he could make it. So, after a little while, he pulled Steven off of him and shot him a smirk.

“Not yet babe,” Duff told him. “I’m not done with you yet.” He grabbed Steven’s hands and pulled him up onto the bed, laying him on his back. Steven was about to set up when Duff knelt on the floor and threw his legs over his shoulders.

“Duff?” Steven asked, but soon, he felt his tongue on his hole and any language he knew was out the window. All he could do was make low moans and groans, which, to Duff, sounded better than any song he had ever heard. And when he dipped his tongue into Steven’s hole, he had to smirk when Steven begged him to keep going.

“I gotta loosen you up babe,” Duff told him. “Not hurting you.”

“Please,” Duff begged, trying to push back against him.

“We’ve got all night,” In the distance, they could hear the roar of thunder. “I’m not going out there.” He stood up. “The lube still in the table?”

“Y-yeah,” Steven breathed. Duff went over and grabbed it and went for a condom. “No. I want to feel you.”

“You sure?” Duff asked, a little surprised. Even when they agreed to be exclusive, they still used condoms. It was just easier.

“Yeah. Please?” Steven gave him that one look that had Duff caving every single time. And this time was no different.

“Of course,” He smirked at Steven and went back over to him, lube in hand. He climbed onto the bed by Steven and kissed him deeply before scooting down a little bit. He coated his first finger in lube and rubbed it over Steven’s hole. It was already wet from earlier, but not enough to safely accommodate Duff. So he slowly pushed the finger in, watching Steven’s face for reactions.

“Duff, please,” Steven whined, pressing down on that one finger.

“I’m not hurting you sugar. This isn’t one of those times,” Duff told him. “We have all the time. We’re not backstage somewhere with just a thin door separating us from thousands of fans.” He gave him a kiss. “We’re doing this right.” Steven nodded.

“Can you at least add another finger?” He asked, to which Duff replied with a laugh and removing the first finger. He lubed up two and pushed them back in. This continued for awhile, Duff teasing Steven with two fingers by pulling them out, lubing them up, and pushing them back in, until the drummer was a moaning mess and begging for something. Duff’s on dick was starting to get angry, so he gave in and added a third finger.

But after a bit, Duff and Steven had both had enough of the teasing, and Duff lubed himself up before slowly pushing into Duff.

“Fuck,” The both moaned as one. Duff held himself over Steven as he moved in, inch by inch, until he was fully seated inside the other man. Duff looked down at Steven, who had his eyes closed. He leaned down and kissed him.

“Hurting you?” Duff asked.

“I think I’m dreaming,” Steven admitted.

“Look at me babe,” Duff slowly started moving, hoping to prove his point. Duff slowly opened his eyes, his blue locking with Duff’s brown. “I’m not going anywhere. I don’t want to lose you again.” He kissed Steven, starting to speed up his movements.

The only sounds in the room were moans and soft grunts, occasionally covered up by the thunder outside, and an every so often whisper of love.

“Duff,” Steven whispered a little while later. “I’m close, fuck,”

“Cum for me babe,” Duff sucked on Steven’s neck, focusing on holding off until Steven was done. He could feel Steven’s muscles tightening around him before ropes of cum fell on Steven’s stomach and he let out a loud moan. That was enough to pull Duff over, cumming inside Steven while holding onto him.

They both stayed there for a moment, breathing heavy. Duff leaned down and kissed Steven after a moment and smiled at him.

“Let me clean you up babe,” He told him, slowly pulling out and heading to the bathroom. He came back with a wet rag and wiped Steven’s stomach off, before throwing it over in the general area of their clothes. He crawled back into bed, pulling Steven into his side.

“Are you staying?” Steven asked, a little afraid that he would leave before the morning. No matter how long they had been together, that was always a fear in Steven’s mind.

“No place else I’d rather be,” He held Steven close to him, both of them drifting off as the storm moved away.

Okay, okay, okay, so Oxford University, right? Contrary to what you might think, it’s not actually one single institution, but is instead a whole bunch of colleges and halls all stacked up and wearing a big trenchcoat that says ‘Oxford University’ on it.

And the fanciest place out of all of these colleges is All Souls College, mainly because 1. You have to be a graduate in order to join, 2. You automatically become a fellow upon joining, 3. It technically has no students, and 4. Up until about 2006(? I think? Don’t quote me on this) the entrance exam consisted of one word, which would be told to you in the exam, and you’d then have to write an essay on said word in your chosen subject. So like, if the word was ‘cat’, and you’d studied, I dunno, geography or something, you’d write an essay on the geographical spread of cats or something.

All Souls. Fancy. Weird. Around since 1438. Filled with what’s thought to be some of the finest minds in the academic world.

“But Izzy,” I hear you cry, “what does this have to do with a duck and academics?”

WELL

(this is both an answer and an interjection)

Back in the sexy year of 1437, when Henry VI was on the throne and All Souls was about to be constructed, the founder – one Henry Clichele, the then Archbishop of Canterbury – was like “I have no idea where to put my fantastic new building :( :( :(“

So he had a little kip, and while he was kipping, he had a dream, and in the dream it was like “Hey. If you dig in this particular spot, you’ll find a duck in a well. This is a REALLY GOOD SIGN for your new college for some reason. Trust me mate, it’s gonna be brill.”

Ol’ Henry hopped out his bed and was like “Holy ducks! This dream surely speaks the truth!” because it was 1437. I mean, I dreamed about Shrek 3rd the other night, and also that I was a werewolf, but that doesn’t mean I’m going to go out and make some sort of Shrek 3 shrine in the forest while covering myself in fake fur. Maybe.

So Henry gathered up a group of people (he was an Archbishop, there’s no way that he’d actually dig) to do some digging, and, sure enough! They dug a hole, only to find a hidden well beneath it, and out of this hole came a mallard!

Which everyone chased, caught, and subsequently ate later on :(

“Great!” said Henry. “I’m gonna build here!”

And not only did they build there, they also decided to commemorate the event with a ceremony that is held every hundred years. The last time it was held was in 2001.

What happens at this ceremony?

First, there’s a big feast, and everyone sings “The Mallard Song”, which goes like so:

“The Griffine, Bustard, Turkey & Capon

Lett other hungry Mortalls gape on

And on theire bones with Stomacks fall hard,

But lett All Souls' Men have ye Mallard.

CHORUS:

Hough the bloud of King Edward,

By ye bloud of King Edward,

It was a swapping, swapping mallard!”

There’s like six more verses after this, and one of them makes certain to mention that the mallard has a huge dick. Because of course. MOVING ON

One of the fellows will be designated the ‘Lord Mallard’ for the evening. Once dinner’s over and everyone’s sufficiently merry (read: pissed), the procession will then take place! The Lord Mallard will be carried in a sedan chair dating back to at least 1901, and in front of him will go someone carrying a mallard on a stick. In previous times it was a live duck :( then it was changed to a dead duck :( and when the ceremony was held in 2001, it was a wooden duck :)

They’ll then all process around the building’s main quadrangle, loudly singing the Mallard Song, whilst chasing the “duck”.

And that’s the ceremony!

I look forward to hearing about what antics ensue at the next ceremony, in 2101.

Az az igazság, hogy magamnak, mint a zenekar rajongójának, tartoztam ezzel a rangsorral. A Guns N’ Roses-ról, amely egykoron a világ legismertebb, legnépszerűbb hard rock zenekara volt, már mindent leírtak, amit tudni érdemes, így ezzel nem koptatom a klaviatúrát. Kicsit a saját magam felállította szabályokat is áthágom, ugyanis én öt albumban határoztam meg magamban azt, amit érdemes rangsorba állítani, és csak sorlemezekben gondolkodtam. De hát a szabályok azért vannak, hogy áthágjuk azokat. Lássuk Los Angeles egykor legveszélyesebb zenekarának a lemezeit rangsorolva! Szerintem nagy meglepetés nem lesz.

6. „The Spaghetti Incident?” (1993)

Miután véget ért a mintegy 200 koncertből álló turné, ahol becslések szerint hétmillió ember látta az együttest, egy feldolgozáslemezzel rukkoltak elő, amelyen a csapat tagjainak kedvencei vannak feldolgozva. A kiválasztott tételek leginkább a ’70-es, ’80-as években működő hard rock, glam és punk zenekarok egyes tételei. Plusz a kihagyhatatlan botrány, ami itt egy rejtett dal képében jelent meg. Az utolsó nóta után ugyanis egy pici csendet követően egy fel nem tüntetett szám hallható, Amerika híres sorozatgyilkosa, Charles Manson Look at Your Game, Girl című szerzeménye. Nem is annyira jó a dal, de Axl-t ismerjük, bevállalta a balhét. Én azok táborába tartozom, akik elítélik, hogy egy erőszakos bűncselekményt elkövető állatnak bármilyen módon reklámot kellene nyújtani. Nem is szoktam meghallgatni. De vissza a fő tételekhez! Az album egy részét 1993 előtt rögzítették, és folyamatosan dúsították egy nagylemeznyi anyaggá. A nyitó Since I Don’t Have You egy csöpögős, nyálas dal, amit eredetileg a The Skyliners írt, nekem mégis a kedvenceim egyike. Jól sikerült a The Damned New Rose című dalának átdolgozása, amelyben Duff énekel, valamint a Nazareth Hair of the Dog-ja is. Tulajdonképpen a többivel sincs semmi baj, a Down on the Farm vagy a Duff által énekelt Attitude a The Misfits-től is kiválóan működik. Ez utóbbi az, amit élőben is sokszor előadtak. És hogy mitől spagetti? Egy korábbi incidens során Axl Rose egy tál spagettit vágott az akkori doboshoz, Steven Adlerhez.

5. Chinese Democracy (2008)

Szegény lemez, akkora hátránnyal indult a rajongóknál, hogy azt elmondani nem lehet. Axl több mint egy évtizedig írta, húzta, halasztotta, és el is szórt rá szépen tizenvalahány millió dollárt. A kiszivárgott demók miatt a dalok zömét a megjelenés előtt évekkel már sokan ismerhették. A rajongók pedig szinte már nem is hittek abban, hogy a lemez valaha hivatalosan megjelenik. De megjelent. Bár a borítón a Guns N’ Roses név szerepel, ez Axl személyes projektje, session zenészekkel rögzítve. Azt mondjuk meg kell hagyni, hogy remek munkát végeztek. Ajánlom mindenkinek, hogy egyszer előítélet-mentesen fusson neki ennek a lemeznek. Egy kiváló hangzású, hatalmas rockdalokat rejtő anyagot fog hallani. Itt-ott simán visszaköszönnek a Guns N’ Roses jellemzői, védjegyei, egyes dalok akár az Appetite for Destruction, akár a Use Your Illusion számai mellé odatehetők, de a közben érkező (leginkább indusztriális) trendek is hagytak rajtuk nyomokat rendesen.

A nyitó, címadó szám tempós rockdal, a Shackler’s Revenge fogós refrénnel rendelkezik, az ezeket követő Better pedig hatalmas sláger lehetett volna az MTV-korszakban. Kiemelkedő a Street of Dreams, a There Was a Time és a Sorry is. A Madagascar epikusságban már-már megközelíti a November Rain, Estranged párost. A This I Love pedig, ha a ’90-es évek elején, klippel támogatva kijön, gigasláger lett volna. A dalok többségéről elmondható, hogy rendkívül színesek, filmzenei, musicales elemek is felfedezhetők bennük (leginkább a Street of Dreams-ben és a Catcher in the Rye-ban). Jellemző még a zongora hangsúlyos használata. A gitárosok előtt pedig le a kalappal! Olyan szólókat pakoltak a lemezre, amelyek méltók arra, hogy Slash örökbecsűi mellé kerüljenek.

4. GN’R Lies (1988)

Miután a zenekar szekere beindult, és új lemez még a láthatáron sem volt, kiadtak egy félig akusztikus, félig kamu-élő albumot (a közönségzajt utólag keverték alá). Az A oldal nem más, mint az 1986-os Live ?!*@ Like a Suicide című kislemez, rajta két feldolgozással, valamint két saját szerzeménnyel. A Reckless Life sodró lendületű, kiváló nyitódal, az eredetije pedig még az itt hallhatónál is lendületesebb. A Rose Tattoo szédítő Nice Boys-a nagy kedvencem, és imádom az eredetijét is! Emellett az Aerosmith-től a Mama Kin, valamint a saját szerzemény, a középtempós, nyugis hangulatú Move to the City hallható még itt. Egyfajta érdekes kettősség, hogy a két saját dal közül a Reckless Life a korai, vad Guns N’ Roses-t idézi fel, a nyugisabb, blues-os Move to the City pedig bőven elfért volna a Use Your Illusion albumokon is.

A B oldalon akusztikus dalok szerepelnek. A Patience minden szerelmes nagy kedvence volt, hatalmas sláger lett. A Gunsnak mindig is kellő érzéke volt a lírai dalok írásához. A Used to Love Her kellemes meglepetés, jó hangulatú, bulizós, együtt éneklős dal. A You’re Crazy a tévhitekkel ellentétben itt szólal meg eredeti valójában, akusztikusan, ahogy megírták, és nem az Appetite… lemezen, ahol a felgyorsított verzió szerepel. A botrányt itt a záró One in a Million hozta meg, konkrétan a szövegben található niggerezés és köcsögözés, buzizás verte le a biztosítékot. Slash sosem rejtette véka alá, hogy nem ért egyet a szöveggel, de ettől Axl még inkább erőltette azt az eredeti verziójában. A dalt élőben nem is nagyon adták elő, talán csak egy-két alkalommal. Kár érte, én szeretem. Az albumról lemaradt egy ősrégi felvétel, a méltatlanul elfeledett Shadow of Your Love, ezt szerencsére 2017-ben végül kiadták. A nem kevésbé megosztó szövegű Cornshucker, amit Duff énekel, viszont azóta is csak bootleg és Japán verziókon található meg.

3. Use Your Illusion I. (1991)

A dupla-dupla albumok jubileumi ismertetőjében részletesebben kitértem a lemezek dalaira és készítésük körülményeire, így most csak a tényeket rögzítem. Mindkét korongon vannak nagy kedvenceim, ezen a The Garden és a Coma. Az itt hallható szerzemények közül több is a zenekar indulása körül formálódott, így a direktebb dalok nagyobb számban találhatók meg itt. Egysíkúságra viszont senki ne gondoljon. Sőt! Az egyfajta pszicho-utazásra invitáló The Garden, a haragot mutató Don’t Damn Me, a punkos felütésű Perfect Crime mellett a zenekar két ikonikus slágere, a szomorkás Don’t Cry és a November Rain is ezen az albumon található. Ha ez nem lenne elég, az országúti blues jellegű Dust n’ Bones, vagy a málházós Dead Horse tovább szélesíti a repertoárt. Az, hogy Izzy Stradlin keze nyoma nyolc dalban is jelen van, talán erősíti azt, hogy összességében ez a direktebb album a kettő közül. Mindkét lemezen szerepel feldolgozás, és megállapítható, hogy mindkettő igen jóra sikeredett. Itt a Live and Let Die hallható, ami eredetileg Paul McCartney és a Wings felvétele volt. Koncertképekből összevágott klipjével elég sokat találkozhattunk.

2. Use Your Illusion II. (1991)

Ez az epikusabb, progresszívebb dalok korongja. A szövegek is más jelleget mutatnak, viszont itt is rendkívül sokszínű a felhozatal. Gondolhatunk a nyitó, zeneileg, szövegileg is nagyon erős Civil War-ra vagy a Breakdown-ra, amelyek komplikáltabbak, progresszívebbek, velük szemben a Shotgun Blues vagy a Terminator 2 betétdala, a You Could Be Mine sokkal direktebb, hard rockosabb. S ha már epikusság, komplexitás… A kettes albumon fejeződik be a nagyszabású trilógia, a lemezpáros legjobb dala, az Estranged képében. A trilógia (Don’t Cry, November Rain, Estranged) alapja egy novella, amit Axl barátja, Del James írt Without You címmel, s amely dalokra Andy Morahan rendezett nagyszerű klipeket. Ezek akkora népszerűségre tettek szert, hogy amikor a harmadik rész, az Estranged kijött, a mindenható MTV, rajongói nyomásra kétszer egymás után lejátszotta. A három klip összköltsége nagyjából hétmillió dollár volt. Kis érdekesség: egy évvel később például Quentin Tarantino nyolcmillióból csinálta meg a Ponyvaregényt. Összességében a kettes korong a pénztáraknál is jobban teljesített, mindig egy lépéssel az egyes előtt járt. Ez nagyjából 18 millió vs. 17 millió eladott példányt jelent.

1. Appetite for Destruction (1987)

Szerintem nagy meglepetést az első helyezettel nem okozok. Olyat sokszor láttunk már, hogy egy zenekar első albuma a legjobb, és felülmúlni a későbbiekben sem tudják, de hogy egy debüt album ilyen magasságokig kúszik, az nem megszokott dolog. Azt azért egy pillanatig se higgyük, hogy a zenekar a semmiből robbant be az élvonalba. Eddigre már Los Angelesben telt házas klubkoncerteket adtak az ikonikus helyszíneken. A kiadók is sikert szimatoltak, a Geffen le is igazolta őket. Az album producere Mike Clink volt, miután az eredetileg kiszemelt Paul Stanley, a Kiss gitáros-énekese túl sok változtatást akart eszközölni az anyagon. Az album 1987-ben jött ki, és már a borítójával is megrökönyödést váltott ki. Ezt később le is kellett cserélni egy másik verzióra. A lemez az első hónapokban nagyjából 200 ezres eladásnál járt, egy évnek kellett eltelnie, és a Sweet Child o’ Mine klipnek kellett kijönnie ahhoz, hogy igazán berobbanjon a köztudatba.

Az album jól visszaadja a zenekar vad, zabolátlan voltát, és a lírai dalok írásával kapcsolatban is megmutatja a banda tehetségét. A lemez három ikonikus felvétele a nyers, magával ragadó albumnyitó, a Welcome to the Jungle, az érzelmes húrokat pengető sláger, a Sweet Child o’ Mine, valamint a ’G’ oldalt záró tétel, a súlyos riffekkel operáló, a végére bevaduló himnusz, a Paradise City. Személyes kedvencem a Nightrain, Slash király szólóival, de nagyon erős a Rocket Queen és a koncerteket nyitó, punkos hatásokkal is bíró It’s So Easy, vagy a My Michelle is. Igazán gyenge dal nincs is albumon, de ebben az erős mezőnyben a You’re Crazy nekem kissé kilóg lefelé. A zenekar nem szórt ki minden felvételt a lemezre, például a Don’t Cry vagy a November Rain is közel befejezett formában volt meg, de úgy gondolták, három lírai hangvételű dalt nem akarnak feltenni a korongra. A későbbi sláger, You Could Be Mine is a fiókban maradt. Azzal kezdtem, hogy a zenekar később nem tudta felülmúlni az első albumot. Ez csak részben igaz, mivel a Use Your Illusion párossal nem felülmúlták az Appetite for Destruction-t, hanem más irányba indultak, más jellegű albumot készítettek. No, utolsó előtti harmadévem Oxfordon! és lényegében az utolsó tanított harmadévem....rájöttem, hogy azért írok egyre kevesebbszer, emrt egyre kevesebb izgalom van már itt: a nagy részét leírtam annak,a mi itt másmilyen, mint otthon, és annyi minden pedig nem történik velem, hogy folyton legyen miről beszámolnom.

Elég mozgalmas ez az időszak, mert a kutatási projektemet ezen term végén kell majd leadnom, és még mindig az adatgyűjtés időszakában vagyok. Nem lenne rossz, ha ez lenne az egyetlen dolgom, de emellett vannak óráim, laborjaim és ezekkel együtt esszéim és rengeteg olvasnivalóm. A tárgy, amitől eléggé tartottam, a neuropszichofarmakológia (lényegében mentális betegségek vizsgálata ingerületátvivőanyagokon kontextusában, illetve a létező gyógyszerek hatását nézve) nem bizonyul annyira érthetetlennek, mint sejtettem. Jó, valóban van benne neurológia, de nem úgy, hogy másoknak, akik eddig minden pszichológia tárgyat vettek, sokkal könnyebb dolguk lenne mint nekem, Nagyon sűrű az anyag és azt hiszem kicsit többről akarunk beszélni, mint ami belefér egy ilyen modulba, de nagyon érdekes és mindig praktikus vonatkozásban vizsgáljuk a betegségeket. A laborjaim is nagyon érdekes témát járnak körbe, a bullyingról tanulunk (ezt nehéz magyarul definiálni, de azt hiszem ezt a szót a legtöbben ismerik így angol formájában: rendszeres bántalmazás egy gyengébb fél irányába azzal a szándékkal, hogy bántalmazzák - tehát nem véletlenszerű). Igaziból csak összehasonlítjuk, hogy hogyan függ össze a kiskori és a későbbi bullying, illetve a bullying és mentális betegségek. Nagyon érdekes mindkét tárgy, és ez az igazán jó a harmadik évben, hogy tényleg specifikus és érdekes problémákkal foglalkozunk.

A heti rutinom egyébként elég megszokott, és ennek örülök is: a tanulmányaim mellett szinte minden hétfőn Martinával, Sollyval, Pietroval és Alice-el (illetve még időnként másokról a szakunkról) elmegyünk hamburgerezni a közelbe vacsira. Szerdán és(/vagy) csütörtök este járunk Patrikkal társastáncolni, pénteken pedig együtt reggelizek két lánnyal akiket a nightline kurzuson ismertem meg (a lelkisegély szolgálat, ahol dolgozom), Alicjaval és Nishaval, akikről van is egy kép a kajás sor felett. Hétvégén is általában van valami program, eddig mindhárom hétvégén Bence jött, de most én megyek kétszer vagy háromszor, ezen a hétvégén lehet, hogy Patrik is jön velem. Az első két képen az látszik, amikor egy James Bond témájú szülinapi buliba mentünk, Nadia szülinapjára: kicsit rosszabb volt, mint amire számítottunk, elég drága volt a hely, korán kezdődött és a zene pedig túl hangos volt ahhoz, hogy beszélgetni lehessen. Ami nagyon jó volt, az első hétnek a végén egy szervezett szülinapi buli volt a folyosónkon: mivel sok mindenkinek esett egy időszakra a szülinapja (leginkább január első fele), ezért meghívtunk sok barátot a collegeból és azon kívülről és egy nagyon jó összejövetel lett belőle, nagyon élveztem, tervezek még így áthívni embereket csak úgy. Martináékon kívül van még egy pár pszichológus akikkel minden termben egyszer-kétszer összejárunk, ők láthatók alulról a második sorban, amikor múlt héten elmentünk egy pubba együtt. Ezek mellett Mátéval és Patrikkal is találkozom minden héten legalább egyszer, csak úgy is beszélgetni, illetve sokat tanulunk együtt a statisztika épületben, közel van hozzám és nagyon kedves hely (most is épp onnan írok). Bocival is igyekszem találkozni hetente-kéthetente, csak így a kutatási projekttel most ő is elég elfoglalt...

No igaziból ennyi nagyrészt ami történt velem, a következőt azért igyekszem kicsit kevesebb idő múlva megírni, hogy friss legyen az összes emlék és ne is legyen ilyen hosszú a bejegyzés. Összességében egész kényelmesen érzem magam Oxfordban, ami eddig nem volt mindig így, de most úgy érzem van rutinom, társaságom, akikkel mindig találkozhatok és akikre számíthatok, és a tárgyaim is elég érdekesek (főleg, hogy még nem igazán kell nyelvészettel foglalkoznom, csak a szünetben elég elkezdenem...). Az egyedüli, hogy elég sok a munka, és főleg a kutatásom miatt izgulok eléggé, meg persze a majd május végén jövő vizsgáim miatt, de ami sürgősebb, az az előbbi.

Mackenzie Davis Bums a Ride From Alia Shawkat in 'Izzy Gets the F**k Across Town' Clip (Exclusive)

"I need to get somewhere now. Can you help me get there?"

Such is Izzy's dilemma in the aptly titled comedy, Izzy Gets the F**k Across Town. Played by Blade Runner 2049's Mackenzie Davis, the eponymous "shameless hot mess" is on a desperate (and hungover) mission to crash her ex-boyfriend's engagement party in writer-director Christian Papierniak's feature debut, in theaters on Friday.

In this exclusive clip, after hitting up a former TaskRabbit customer, Walt (Haley Joel Osment), for cash, Izzy ultimately convinces an equally disheveled Agatha Benson (Alia Shawkat, dressed in a Pepto-Bismol pink matching dress set) to drive her across town, at which point Walt interjects, "No, no! I was going to make us poached eggs and cinnamon toast."

"Wow, that does sound dope. That does. I really want to, but I really can't," Agatha demurs, letting out a belch and turning to Izzy. "Let's go, girlfriend."

Ett sent fullmånsbrev

Det var så längesen jag skrev här nu. Mycket är rörigt och vilset. Men jag känner mig tacksam och fri. Jag känner att jag är nära nu. Nära mig själv. Mitt riktiga jag. Vem det nu än är. Vem det nu än ska bli. Och ingen är mer spänd och exalterad över att lista ut det än just jag. Rädslan jag känt den senaste veckan byts successivt ut mot en sån jäkla förväntan. FAN va coolt att jag ska få åka till Indien och gräva i mig själv. Känner redan att jag är i full gång i att överkomma och bryta mig fri. Att sluta jobbet har varit en sån sak. En tyngd som lyfts bort. Ett ansvar som har knutit mig till att ta på mig andra för mycket. Att inte vara sann mot mig själv. Vilket har lett till lidandet av mina relationer. Eller snarare mina icke-relationer. Jag har ett helt liv känt mig otillräcklig i vänskap. Jag har präglats av skam och inte vågat vara transparent och sårbar. Jag har aldrig vågat lita på att jag kan bli accepterad för den jag är med 0% redigering eller efterkonstruktion. Jag har överkompenserat och putsat upp en fasad och sen känt mig krossad och underskattad när någon valt bort mig. Jag har inte förstått att jag ha vart svår att älska. Svår att komma nära. Och svår att ha omkring på grund av att jag inte varit ärlig, mot mig själv eller mot andra. Jag har haft som vana att exkludera. Båda mig själv och andra. Det här har plågat mig och jag har alltid känt att jag går miste om. Det är därför jag känner mig så otroligt stolt och tacksam över att det senaste gång efter gång bevisat för mig själv att jag är värd att känna den där fina fina kärleken som bara vänskap kan ge. Izzie. Dina. Och så du Josi. Jag är så jävla tacksam för att ni har sett mig. Sett mig och inte gett upp på mig. Gett mig er kärlek och sett min. Ni inspirerar mig.

Ez most egy kissé rendhagyó cikk lesz, inkább koncert kritika/beszámoló, mintsem utazás. Az történt ugyanis, hogy egyrészt elindultunk Portugáliába, José-Louisnál befejeztük két hetes Workaway-ünket. Az utolsó napig is tök jól éreztük magunkat, egy nagyon kellemes időd tölthettünk együtt, jókat ettünk, ittunk, beszélgettünk, szerettük Zaragozat is. Reméljük, majd vissza tudunk jönni JL-hoz pár év múlva az új helyére már.

Szóval, elindultunk, de tettünk egy kis kitérőt, kicsit észak felé, Bilbao-ba egy estére, hogy megnézzük a Guns N’ Roses-t. Ha már néhány órás busz távra játszik tőlünk egy ekkora legenda, akkor azt nem hagyhattuk ki. Bilbao egyébként egy csodás kis város, van egy romantikus hangulata, de azért a nagyvárosi jellemzői is megvannak. Furcsa, hogy itt adtak koncertet, Spanyolországban még Madridban is játszanak pár nap múlva. Baromi hangulatos volt, hogy egész Bilbao tele volt Guns pólós emberekkel, a stadion körül minden kocsma előtte rengetegen álltak, sörözve, tapasozva készülve az esti bulira.

NOT IN THIS LIFETIME Ez a turné neve, utalva gondolom arra, hogy régebben Axl és Slash is azt mondták, ebben az életben talán soha nem játszanak újra együtt. Aztán 1-2 éve jött a hír, összeáll a klasszikus Guns. Az eredeti csapatból valójában csak hárman, a “front” emberek borultak össze: Axl, Slash és Duff. Izzy-nek szerintem semmi kedve turnézni, bármennyire is az egyik legfontosabb háttérkaraktere volt a bandának, Sorum, Adler meg szerintem nem is nagyon lett meghívva. A triász mögött a 90’ óta a bandában zongorázó Dizzy Reed, a 2001 óta pengető indián-gitáros Richard Fortus, egy baromi jó feka dobos, Frank Ferrer és egy fiatal szintis csaj, Melissa Reese hozta a vérprofi hátteret. A banda előtt, Mark Lanegan zenekara nyitott, akit bármennyire is szeretek, sajnos nagyon nem működött. A lassú, depis zenéje és karaktere egyáltalán nem illett se a Guns elé, se egy ekkora stadionba… Az egész show kegyetlen profi volt, már az intro, a vetítések, a hatalmas 3D rózsák, fegyverek, animációk is lenyűgözőek voltak. A bolondos dallamok zenéjére bevonuló banda pedig kerek 3 órán át nyomta a rock n rollt. Alulra bemásolom a setlis-et, miket játszottak. Az összes nagy sláger mellett előkerültek ritkább dalok is, feldolgozások is, valamint Chris Cornell emlékére előadták a Black Hole Sunt. Csodálatos érzés volt ezt így tőlük, barátaitól hallani, küszködtem a könnyekkel. A show néhány alkalommal laposodott csak el, az olyan daloknál mint a Coma például, én egy 4 dalt kivettem volna, 2,5 óra is elég lett volna, bár tény, hogy dolgozzanak meg az öreg rockerek a pénzért :D Az egész koncert egyébként erről szólt, a közönségről, látszott, hogy most minden rajongót ki akarnak szolgálni. Anno én magam igencsak furcsálltam, hogy Slash miért is megy vissza, az évtizedek óta dísz-pöcs szerepben tündöklő (és bukó) Axl-hez, aki átlagosan késik a koncertjeiről 2-3 órát, stb. Könnyű rávágni, hogy a pénzért, de itt nem erről volt szó. Slash-nek elég korrekt szólókariere van, Axl a Guns neve alatt bármilyen kísérőzenészekkel tudott koncertezni, Duffnak meg szerintem tök mindegy :D Nem, itt arról volt szó, hogy talán rájöttek, az emberek őket együtt akarják látni még egyszer az életben. És igen, biztos nem a legjobb barátok, de alig néhány év alatt képesek voltak együtt egy olyan életművet létrehozni, hogy a gyerekektől a nagymamákig bárki szívesen elmenne megnézni őket, mindenki tud tőlük több dalt is és 25 év után is lenyűgöző amit kreáltak. És most itt volt minden amit szerettünk bennük, It’s so Easy és Welcome to the Jungle féle zúzás, pörgés, November Rain és Don’t Cry féle líra, Paradise City meg Sweet Child o Mine féle sláger lötyögés, feldolgozások, Keresztapa gitárszóló, kígyók, cilinder, stb. Axl kicsit halk volt, vagy csak a közönség énekelt végig hangosan, de a zúzás számok alatt néha keveset hallottunk belőle. Alapvetően elég szarul néz ki a csávó, Fruzsi egyáltalán nem ismerte fel :D Ha valaki a 25-30 évvel ezelőtti klipekben látta utoljára, tényleg elmenne mellette az utcán. Néha pihent kicsit, de alapvetően kemény meló lehet futva végig énekelni, ráadásul az ő stílusában 3 órát. Slash hozta amit kell, bőrgatya, cilinder, Les Paul és sok másik gitár. Természetesen fantasztikusan végigszólózta az egész koncertet, nem iszik vagy 20 éve, szóval a klasszikus, egy üveg Jack Daniels / koncert aztán beleesés a dobba már a múlté. És ott volt Duff, aki ebből az egész bagázsból engem a legjobban lenyűgözött. Ő az a fajta jóarc, laza csávó, akihez odamehetsz az utcán, ráadásul úgy basszusgitározik, mint aki ��letében nem tanult vagy gyakorolt volna egy percet sem, csak szimplán a nyakába akasztanák a hangszert és vérprofin tudna rajta játszani. Ráadásul kurva jól elénekelt egy Misfits nótát, a basszusgitárján pedig Prince szimbólum volt festve. A többi zenészre nem lehet panasz, hozták a kegyetlen groove-okat, a másik gitáros pedig lehet, hogy igazából sokkal jobb zenész Slash-nél.

Szóval, legendákat láttunk, akik még időben észbe kaptak és baromi jól érezhettük magunkat a bulijukon, mi élveztük a showt, ők újra élvezték a sikert. Sokan soha nem látták még őket és azért, mások újra láthatták őket, azért voltak boldogok, de tegnap Bilbaoban senki nem jött ki csalódottan a San Memés Stadionból.

Mivel a Guns N’ Roses ultrasikeres Not In This Lifetime turnéja csak júniusban folytatódik Európában, a csapat most eltűnt a nyilvánosság elől, így a pletykagyár is azonnal beindult.

A szórakoztatóipar hátterét illetően általában jól értesült Los Angeles-i pletykaoldal, a Crazy Days and Nights arról írt a minap, hogy az egyik folyamatosan csúcskategóriás rockbanda olyasmiben egyezett meg, amiről azt mondták korábban, hogy sosem lépik meg. Új lemezt készítenek a csaknem eredeti felállásban, és már meg is állapodtak egy producerrel, aki minden idők legjobb öt producerének egyike.

A brit Hammer fejtegetése szerint ez a banda nem lehet a Rainbow, a Smashing Pumpkins, a Mötley Crüe, mert a felsoroltak nem voltak “folyamatosan csúcskategóriások”, a leírás egyedül a Guns-ra igaz.

Szerintük ezt a teóriát támasztja alá az is, hogy 2017 tavaszán Myles Kennedy egy lehetséges, újabb Slash szólólemezről beszélt, most azonban már a saját szólóalbumára és a tavaszi akusztikus turnéjára összpontosít, noha 2015-ben még arról volt szó, hogy a harmadik Slash and the Conspirators album anyaga 90 százalékosan összeállt. Slash tehát nem ér rá mostanában.

A basszer Duff McKagannek is van egy projektje, a Walking Papers, meg is jelent január végén az új lemezük, de Duff nélkül, és a frontember Jeff Angell szerint Duff mostanában nem is fog ráérni, mert van egy jobban fizető állása. A Walking Papers már fel is sorakoztatta Evan Flory-Barnes-t Duff helyére.

A Hammer szerint a teóriájukat az is alátámasztja, hogy a GN’R Twittere csupán 41 másik Twitter-oldalt követ, s ezek egyike Rick Rubiné, aki valóban a Top 5 producerek egyike.

Új dalokban nincs hiány, fogalmaz a brit Hammer, hiszen Axl Rose-nak a saját bevallása szerint is számtalan fel nem használt nótaötlete van (a Chinese Democracy-t eredetileg dupla albumnak tervezte), akárcsak a többieknek. 2003-ban például legalább 10 nóta megszületett Izzy Stradlin’-nal egy The Project munkanevű projekthez, amiből végül a Velvet Revolver lett. Scott Weiland csatlakozásával azonban a korábbi ötletek javát elvetették, noha Slash azt mondta erről a dalcsokorról, hogy “a legjobb Guns N’ Roses lemez, amit a Guns sosem készített el”.

Slash és Duff a Slipknot és Stone Sour énekes Corey Taylorral is felvett vagy tíz dalt, amikor a Velvet Revolver újraindítása volt soron. Ebből aztán nem lett semmi, de ott is maradhattak később fel nem használt ötletek, témák.

Továbbá Richard Fortus gitáros azt nyilatkozta korábban, hogy a Guns N’ Roses a turné közben is dolgozott új témákon, új dalokon, és hogy rögzítettek is jó sokat ezek közül. Fortus azt is mondta, hogy szerinte mindenki számít egy új album elkészítésére, sőt, tervezgetik is ezt.

Mindeközben egy másik pletykával is tele vannak a rockos híroldalak jelenleg, ugyanis egy ausztrál újságíró, Murray Engleheart, aki többek között a 2012-ben kiadott AC/DC Maximum Rock & Roll… könyv szerzője, azt posztolta ki a Facebook oldalára, hogy szerinte az AC/DC Axl-lel fogja folytatni a pályafutását:

“Spekuláljatok amennyit csak akartok, de én korábban is azt mondtam és továbbra is azt mondom, hogy az AC/DC Axllel fogja folytatni – új albummal, turnézással, mindennel együtt.

Ami Angus részéről egy masszív szerencsejáták volt, az egy ugyanilyen hatalmas győzelemmé alakult, megágyazva ezzel a jövőnek.”

Ez a bejegyzés semmiféle hivatalos alátámasztást nem kapott, sem az AC/DC, sem Angus Young, sem Axl Rose részéről. Jelenleg tehát csupán egyetlen újságíró véleménye.

A mai napon éppem 56 éves Axl Rose tehát vagy a Guns N’ Roses-szal készít új albumot, vagy az AC/DC-vel, vagy egyikkel sem.

Az viszont nehezen képzelhető el, hogy egyszerre mindkét csúcskategóriás bandával új albumot készít és turnéra is indul. A tudomány jelenlegi állása ezt bizonyosan nem teszi lehetővé.
