Kate Bishop would have SUCH weird relationships with Gotham's rogues.
She hates the Joker. And it's not for the reasons the Joker wants.
Kate is not afraid of him. To be clear, she should be, and many people would like her to stop antagonizing him because if he Joker toxins her they're FUCKED.
Kate hates the Joker because he's bad at being a clown. Kate is insulted on Clint's behalf and the behalf of carnies everywhere.
She doesn't think he's particularly original. He's like if 4chan was a person. He just wants to see the world burn? Great! Kate is Good at Arson so she'll set some of his shit on fire. He wants to set up puzzles so you can almost solve his plot? OK well so does the Riddler and his stuff is way more clever. Also, he can pull off a bowler. She LOVES the Riddler btw.
You have a scary toxin? OK well so does the Scarecrow and he is WAY more terrifying than you. Like, is the Joker just copying the other Rogues of Gotham? She's fucking terrified of the Scarecrow! Which makes sense. She is a bird.
Joker is Batman's nemesis? Well she has a nemesis too and she's classy and deranged. Kate's nemesis makes robot clones of herself and has threatened to put her cigarettes out on Kate's face WHILE wearing a gold mask, okay? Classy. Madam Masque understands how to leverage the awkward sexual tension between hero and villain. The Joker just needs to admit that's what it is and move on from there.
Someone starts talking about Two Face and Kate's like, what are you saying? Disabled people can't be villains? Evil masterminds? That's fucking ableist. Also, he was a lawyer. The cops in Gotham probably don't even hate him for being a villain, it's probably just because he's a lawyer. How do you know the cops aren't framing him??? Answer THAT.
And Ivy? Kate has a massive crush on her obviously. And Ivy thinks Kate is SO bad at being a human she barely counts as one, she can stay around. Kate and Harley are BFFs. Ivy will be At It with the Bats and Harley and Kate are doing girl's night. They convince Babs to go with them. It's great.
Kate has ADHD. You know who she's terrified of? Calendar Man.

Hawkeye Takes Flight Again: Jeremy Renner Soars Back on Set After Accident
It’s good news, Marvel fans! After a harrowing snowplow accident last January, Jeremy Renner, our beloved Hawkeye, is back where he belongs — on set! His triumphant return has been met with cheers and a heartwarming post from his co-star, Emma Laird, that perfectly captures the joy of his resilience.
Renner’s accident, which involved being crushed by a snowplow while clearing his driveway, left him with serious injuries. The news sent shockwaves through Hollywood and fans around the world. Thankfully, the skilled actor received prompt medical attention and underwent months of intense rehabilitation. His dedication to recovery, coupled with his characteristic grit and determination, paid off.
Laird, Renner’s co-star in the Paramount+ series “Mayor of Kingstown,” shared a photo on her Instagram story featuring the two reunited on set. The picture radiates warmth and camaraderie, with Laird beaming and a caption that reads, “It’s happening!” Renner reposted the photo on his own Instagram, adding “Back with my favourite guy next week.” These simple messages speak volumes about the close bond these actors share and the elation surrounding Renner’s return.
Renner’s accident and recovery resonate deeply for several reasons. Firstly, it serves as a stark reminder of the fragility of life, even for seemingly invincible superheroes. Secondly, it showcases the remarkable power of the human spirit to overcome adversity. Renner’s unwavering determination to reclaim his life and career is truly inspiring. Finally, his story highlights the importance of community and support. The outpouring of love and well wishes from fans and colleagues undoubtedly played a significant role in his journey back to the screen.
Renner’s return signals the resumption of filming for the third season of “Mayor of Kingstown,” where he portrays Mike McLusky, a powerful figure in a crime-ridden Michigan town. This complex and gritty role allows Renner to tap into his dramatic prowess, showcasing a different side of his acting talent compared to his superhero persona.
Of course, the question on every Marvel fan’s mind is “Will we see Hawkeye take flight again?” While there’s no official confirmation yet, Renner’s return to acting opens up exciting possibilities for his future in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Whether it’s a solo project, a team-up with Kate Bishop, or even a surprise cameo, the prospect of Hawkeye’s return is sure to electrify audiences.
Jeremy Renner’s career spans over two decades, encompassing a diverse range of roles from action heroes to dramatic leads. He has earned critical acclaim for his performances in films like “The Hurt Locker,” “The Bourne Legacy,” and the “Avengers” franchise. Beyond acting, Renner is also a passionate environmentalist and philanthropist, dedicating his time and resources to various causes.

My Hero
Summary: When Clint and Natasha are going to talk to Tony about something, Yelena is stuck keeping Clint's guest entertained. She is surprised to find that it is a young woman, and Yelena is positively shocked to figure out that this girl is horribly misguided about who the best and coolest Avenger is. And thus they engage in a debate about their heroes.
Or how Yelena Belova meets Kate Bishop in an idealistic universe where everyone lives.
Word Count: 3455
“So when is Clinton getting here? And why do I have to be here while you two go and do something else somewhere else in the compound that has nothing to do with me?” Yelena questioned with a deep sigh, her head resting heavily on Natasha’s shoulder as she talked to her older sister.
“We’ve got to meet up with Tony for something really quick, and Clint has some company that he’s bringing with him,” Natasha patiently told her, her fingers lightly tickling Yelena’s back. Yelena was almost lost in the sensations, but she quickly caught Natasha’s unspoken meaning. She looked at Natasha unhappily, her eyes narrowed.
“No… You aren’t seriously going to make me hang out with some idiot that I don’t even know from Adam’s housemat— I mean his housecat,” Yelena paused, catching herself before making the mistake and Natasha nodded approvingly, “and make me talk to the person while you two leave me alone!”
“It’s just for a little while. Fifteen or twenty minutes at the most,” Natasha assured her, and Yelena just groaned, leaning more heavily into her as Natasha traced out letter spelling out “I love you” on her back. Yelena felt an overwhelming wave of love coming over her and she pressed her face into Natasha’s neck, her head brushing the side of Natasha’s face as she poked her nose against Natasha’s collarbone.
“Hey, guys. Sorry we’re late,” Clint spoke up suddenly, and Yelena pulled away from Natasha very hesitantly as Natasha pulled her hand away from Yelena to stand up and greet Clint. Yelena stood up alongside her and as soon as she was upright, her eyes locked onto the person entering the room quickly.
It was a younger girl that looked to be barely more than a teenager, and she reminded Yelena in many ways of Peter. Her eyes were bright and sparkling, and she was looking at Clint as if he were the greatest person on Earth. Yelena honestly somewhat wondered how in the world that Clint managed to come up with this person.
“Be careful, arrow-boy. You let in a crazed fangirl with you,” Yelena commented, and Clint just sighed a little as the girl in question bounded up to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with him. Yelena quirked an eyebrow curiously, and Natasha smiled a little as she looked at the girl. The girl’s eyes immediately went a little wide as she looked at Natasha. Yelena felt a small bristle within her as she felt the sudden need to step between Natasha and the girl. She was not about to let some nutty fangirl try to attack her big sister.
“Guys, this is Kate Bishop. She’s staying with me until I can get her a place somewhere else,” Clint told them, and Kate immediately stepped up to hold her hand out to Natasha to shake it. Yelena resisted the immediate urge to knock her hand down.
“Hi, I have heard literally so much about you. I mean, obviously since you’re famous or whatever, but um… It’s an honor, Black Widow,” Kate told her happily, and Yelena just watched the two as Natasha took her hand and shook it kindly.
“It’s nice to meet you, too, Kate. Just call me Natasha.”
“Oh, okay, cool. Natasha,” Kate spoke experimentally with a grin, testing the name out on her tongue, and Yelena resisted the urge to roll her eyes at the girl’s goofiness.
“And this is Yelena,” Clint introduced, and Kate grinned as she turned her attention to Yelena. Yelena huffed a little, nodding to her, and Kate reached a hand out carefully. Yelena just eyed it, raising an eyebrow, and Kate let her hand drop after a moment.
“So why are you keeping company with a girl? Aren’t you a little old for her? And a little too committed at the moment?” Yelena cut to the chase and Clint just shook his head with a groan. Kate immediately laughed nervously, glancing at Clint. Yelena huffed a little, realizing that she had for some reason embarrassed the girl with the statement.
“No… It’s more like my guest…. And… she has a chance of becoming an Avenger,” Clint explained, and Natasha smiled a bit as Kate’s eyes grew as big as saucers.
“A chance?!” Kate excitedly declared, looking over at Clint with a giant smile, and Clint rolled his eyes in response to her.
“A slim chance. Slim,” Clint accentuated, but Kate still looked ridiculously happy with his statement that she had even the slightest of chances of making it.
“Alright, you two stay here. We’ve got to go see Tony,” Natasha told them, and Clint nodded to Kate, staring at her with a slight scold in his gaze. Kate just smiled winningly right back at him, and he sighed deeply. Natasha squeezed Yelena’s arm, and Yelena leaned against her just a bit to bump against her shoulder.
Natasha and Clint then headed out, and the two girls left behind sat down across from one another hesitantly, an awkward silence filling the air between them as they quietly regarded one another.
“So… You’re Clint’s new sidekick?” Yelena asked finally once she felt sure Natasha and Clint were out of earshot and once the silence started driving her insane.
“No, no, we’re partners and practically best friends,” Kate proclaimed immediately, offering a slightly goofy grin as she looked at Yelena, and Yelena quirked an eyebrow in response to the young woman.
“Hm,” Yelena simply hummed in response, not sure if she entirely believed her. She had seen the way Clint looked at the girl, and she had not really gotten the inclination that he saw Kate as an equal. It was more of a sidekick or mentoring situation from what Yelena had understood just from watching the two.
“So… You’re Natasha’s sister?” Kate asked curiously yet somewhat hesitantly. Yelena could not help but smirk ever so slightly as she noticed Kate’s carefulness around her so far and the fact that she seemed to be trying desperately to avoid doing anything to aggravate Yelena.
“Yeah.”
“Nice… I didn’t know that she had a sister,” Kate pointed out with a slight smile, obviously trying to plough her way through this conversation considering that it was relatively one-sided since Yelena did not have too much to say.
“Most people don’t,” Yelena replied simply, shifting slightly in her seat as she found herself somewhat uncomfortable being left alone with someone that she had zero knowledge of outside of a name.
“Why? I mean, if it’s not a thing or something,” Kate nervously questioned, looking at Yelena with some trepidation as she presumably tried to decipher how Yelena would react. Yelena simply shrugged in response, sitting back further in her seat as she eyed the other girl.
“It’s complicated,” Yelena settled for saying. She was not about to empty her whole life’s story on some stranger no matter how well-meaning and relatively harmless that Kate seemed to be.
“Yeah, I totally get that… Family’s complicated,” Kate admitted somewhat sadly in her honest, odd manner, and Yelena furrowed her brow just a bit, sensing something deeper with the girl. However, she did not choose to pursue it or ask anything about it.
“Are you like her sidekick, or…?” Kate asked, trailing off as she looked at Yelena, and Yelena scoffed, irked at the mere suggestion that she was anything less than a partner.
“No. I am her partner and her best friend,” Yelena echoed Kate’s earlier response when Yelena had asked the same thing. Kate nodded quickly.
“Hm,” Kate responded precisely how Yelena had, and Yelena’s gaze immediately snapped to that of the brunette’s. Kate just grinned a little in response to Yelena’s watchful stare. Yelena huffed slightly with amusement, finding herself somewhat intrigued by the fact that Kate seemed to be a little more nuanced and a little less shallow and meek than Yelena had originally perceived.
“So how did you get to know Hawkear?” Yelena questioned, raising an eyebrow as she eyed Kate. Kate immediately started to laugh, and Yelena just eyed her confusedly, not sure what exactly was so funny about her statement.
“I’m sorry… It’s just I’ve messed with him about being called Hawkear,” Kate offered a dismissive wave as she straightened a bit in her sear and proceeded to actually answer Yelena’s question.
“I met him in NYC, and he got me out of a real mess. And he ended up offering me a place here—well, as soon as he talks to Tony about it— and we became partners,” Kate explained, and Yelena could not help a slight bark of laughter in disbelief. She shook her head as Kate eyed her curiously.
“What? You don’t believe me?” Kate questioned with a slight laugh, and Yelena just shrugged.
“Well, I think you might have twisted the truth to fit your weird fantasy world, if that’s what you mean,” Yelena commented, a grin taking over her face as she looked at the other girl. Kate appeared to be somewhat affronted as she furrowed her brow.
“What do you think happened, then?” Kate asked, and Yelena laughed with a wicked grin.
“I think that he did get you out of a real mess, but I also think that you followed him around relentlessly until he begrudgingly took you under his wing and offered you a place here because you would not stop aggravating him about it,” Yelena assessed, and she smirked victoriously as Kate appeared to be immediately uncomfortable, her eyes shifting away from Yelena’s gaze. Yelena knew she had hit the mark, and she just patiently eyed the brunette, waiting on her to admit that Yelena was right about it.
“Well… If that was true— which I’m not saying it is— could you really blame me? Clint’s like the coolest Avenger ever,” Kate declared, excitement filling her voice as her eyes lit up. Yelena openly scoffed in response, rolling her eyes heavily before raising an eyebrow ridiculously high.
“Is there something funny about that?” Kate uncertainly questioned, just staring at Yelena with some confusion and Yelena shook her head.
“Yeah. Because everybody knows that Hawkeye is the least popular Avenger. Besides, Natasha is the coolest Avenger. I mean… Her superhero name is just ten times cooler than his and sounds way more deadly,” Yelena informed her, expressing her side of the argument, and Kate tilted her head a little, narrowing her eyes slightly.
“Me and him are working on branding, but don’t you think you’re kind of biased? She is your sister, after all,” Kate pointed out, and Yelena just sighed through her nose. She honestly could not believe this girl seriously thought that Clint was cooler than Natasha. She knew her sister was definitely the coolest person in the world even if Yelena would never directly admit it to her face.
“I am not entirely biased. All of the sister stuff aside, she has the best weapons and the best moves,” Yelena explained, and Kate scooted toward the edge of her seat, leaning forward as her eyes hardened with the debate.
“Clint never misses his mark. Ever. And didn’t he have Natasha cornered when he gave her a chance to come to SHIELD?” Kate asked smugly, and Yelena just chuckled smarmily in response, not about to let Kate win in this battle of superiority between their heroes.
“Pfft… You mean after she got tired of kicking his rear across six different continents?” Yelena inquired with a smirk, and Kate furrowed her brow.
“Wait, really?” Kate paused for a moment to question, and Yelena just nodded, ridiculously proud of her older sister and very much pleased with the fact that she could throw the fact into Kate’s face.
However, Kate quickly caught up with herself and realized that they were in the middle of a competition, and she rolled her shoulders just a little as she eyed Yelena with a challenge in her gaze.
“He has a bow and arrow,” she informed her as if that were some manner of giant accomplishment, and Yelena huffed in response, making a sarcastic sound of reverent surprise.
“Ooh, big deal. He’s Katniss Everdeen’s long-lost brother. Natasha has widow’s bites and friggin’ guns. Guns trump bows,” Yelena declared confidently, and Kate just scoffed.
“Plus, she has this awesome, sleek Black Widow suit that makes her look seriously cool. It doesn’t have enough pockets, but it’s still literally the most awesome suit ever,” Yelena proclaimed, and Kate shook her head.
“Clint’s got to work on branding, but he still sells it perfectly,” Kate informed her, pointing at Yelena, and Yelena gaped at her in confusion.
“What does that even mean?” Yelena demanded, her voice growing high-pitched with the inquiry, her nose wrinkling with Kate’s weirdness.
“It means that he is still the coolest Avenger! Did you ever see that thing on the news that had a compilation of his coolest shots?! I mean, I myself witnessed him in real life jumping off of a freaking building and shooting an enemy as he fell!” Kate dramatically accentuated, gesticulating wildly in an attempt to convey her point more fully. Yelena just raised an eyebrow as she watched the entire display.
“Firstly, do you even know how absolutely silly you look?” Yelena questioned, and Kate suddenly looked a little embarrassed as Yelena grinned a little at the brunette. However, Yelena quickly moved on to her next point.
“Second, your Clinton might jump off buildings or whatever and shoot the enemy as he falls, but Natasha has the best poses ever when she actually lands. And I’ve seen both Clint and Natasha land in front of my very eyes. Clint fell with style but landed like a rock at the bottom of a lake. Natasha not only fell with style, but she landed like a literal boss. Like… Straight up flames or whatever people say now,” Yelena confidently told Kate. However, as she finished her mini-speech on Natasha’s superiority, she realized that Kate did not even seem to be looking at Yelena and instead seemed to be eyeing something behind her.
Yelena furrowed her brow but quickly froze as she heard a painfully familiar voice.
“Aww, I knew you secretly thought the poses were cool,” Natasha’s voice sounded off behind Yelena and Yelena swiftly turned toward the redhead. There Natasha stood with Clint not too far off, and Yelena shook her head quickly.
“I didn’t say that!”
“She did. She said you were straight up flames. I think that’s Yelena-ish for straight up fire,” Kate ratted her out, a way too giant grin on her face as she watched Yelena. Yelena shot her an ungrateful glare, and Kate shrugged a little, laughing a bit to show she meant no ill will with the entire comment. Yelena rolled her eyes, instead redirecting her focus to Natasha as she tried to salvage what little she could of her reputation.
“She’s full of it,” Yelena announced, and Natasha just smiled widely down at Yelena.
“It’s okay that you think they’re cool, Rooskaya. I bet you even tried them out a couple of times,” Natasha spoke, and Yelena hesitated for just a moment, remembering her few times trying them out way too well. However, it was immediately after this that she realized her mistake, and she swiftly started shaking her head, trying to make up for the pause.
“Oh, my gosh, you have tried them!” Kate gleefully pointed out as Clint headed over to stand not too far from her, a giant grin on his face as he looked at Yelena. Natasha was smiling somehow even wider, at this point resembling the Cheshire Cat with the sheer magnitude of the smirk.
“Oh, as if you weren’t just gushing over Clinton!” Yelena gestured to the man, hoping to regain some control over this situation, and Kate simply shrugged.
“I don’t keep my fangirling a secret. One of the benefits of our partnership. We’re always one-hundred percent straight up with each other,” Kate informed Yelena with a grin and a quick wink coupled with finger-guns. Yelena just scoffed, and Clint raised an eyebrow.
“What are you talking about? I never tell you anything,” Clint expressed, and Kate just waved his words away dismissively. Yelena could feel Natasha’s gaze still on her, so she just maintained eye contact with Kate.
“We’re working on that part of our relationship,” Kate declared, and Clint wrinkled his nose a little at her weird wording of the statement. Yelena snorted slightly at Kate’s obvious hero worship. Yelena almost thought it resembled some starry-eyed kid with a ridiculous crush or something.
And Yelena was suddenly hoping that she would see Kate again soon so she could get her back for embarrassing her with Natasha.
“Okay, guys, I’m going to head out,” Clint told them, and Kate immediately hopped to her feet, and Yelena raised an eyebrow as Kate was almost wagging like a much too desperate puppy just dying for affection and attention. It was absolutely ridiculous to Yelena, and she found herself glad that she never looked like that.
“I’m heading out, too,” Kate immediately spoke up, going around the couch to stand next to Clint eagerly. Clint let out a deep sigh, and Kate just grinned widely at him, offering her fist.
“Partners, amiright?” Kate told him, and he just rolled his eyes, passing her by as he headed toward the elevator. Kate was quick to follow him, starting some giant rant about how he was not allowed to leave her hanging like that.
However, as they reached the elevator, she stopped for a moment to poke her head out of the elevator and yell.
“Bye! It was really nice to meet you guys!!! Maybe we can talk again soon?!” Kate called loudly before Clint dragged her in to keep her from having the elevator doors shut on her neck.
After a few beats of silence and of Yelena stubbornly avoiding Natasha’s gaze, she suddenly felt Natasha hoist herself over the back of the couch to sit down next to Yelena, her side pressed closely against Yelena’s.
“So you really think they’re cool?”
“I was winning an argument,” Yelena replied, but even she knew that she did not sound confident enough to truly convince Natasha of the words. She could see Natasha’s grin out of the corner of her eyes, and before she could say anything else, Natasha wrapped her arms around Yelena, leaning back into the couch and pulling Yelena against her.
Yelena sighed before scooting herself more into Natasha’s lap and letting the older woman hold her as she rested her head against the redhead’s chest. Natasha rested her chin on top of Yelena’s head.
Yelena let out a deep sigh, and she pressed her head just a bit closer to Natasha’s body to hear her heartbeat thumping beneath her ear.
“Of course I think they’re cool, poser… A little over the top and a little ridiculous, but still cool,” Yelena admitted, keeping her face buried in Natasha’s shirt over her heart as she tried to avoid Natasha’s gaze. Natasha chuckled a little before taking Yelena’s chin gently in her hand and guiding her head up to meet eyes with her.
“I think you’re really cool, little one,” Natasha confessed, and Yelena could not help the swell of love in her chest for her older sister, extremely glad that Natasha was not going to belittle her for expressing such a vulnerable truth and feeling. Natasha smirked just a little as she gazed at Yelena fondly, and Yelena wondered what Natasha was about to say.
“A little over the top and a little ridiculous, but still cool,” Natasha teased, echoing Yelena’s words. Yelena simply huffed, headbutting Natasha lightly and smacking their foreheads together gently. Natasha laughed, and Yelena could not help her own mirth in response.
Yelena leaned forward to rub their noses together, and Yelena locked her gaze on Natasha’s firmly, her attention focused solely on those gorgeous light greens filled with all of the love in the world and everything that Yelena ever needed.
“Can we see Kate again?” Yelena finally whispered after a long moment, a thought coming to her mind, and Natasha huffed, a smile growing on her face.
“You liked her?” Natasha questioned, and Yelena could see her surprise that Yelena might have actually made friends. Yelena just smirked evilly, shrugging a little.
“Nah… More like I have a bone to hack with her.”
There was a beat of pregnant silence as neither one of the girls said anything. Yelena knew something was not quite right and that Natasha obviously found something humorous judging by the sparkle in her eye. It was then that Yelena realized her mistake.
“I said that wrong, didn’t I?”
Natasha just laughed.

"Fine line" part I
Peter Parker x SHIELD Agent! Reader x Harry Osborn
Teen and Up
Warnings: Canon typical violence
Part of the "Fine Line" series. Welcome to the endgame.
SERIES MASTERLIST | MY MASTERLIST
He had never seen you fight before. It was stupid of him, and potentially dangerous, to stop and think about something like that in the middle of a freaking battle, but he just couldn't help it. You were graceful, deadly. You and Kate Bishop moving together like a well oiled machine. Strike team Delta, Fury's pride. A blur of perfectly shot arrows and high kicks.
But not even you were enough to stop the giant monstrosity in its path of destruction, not even him was. And it had hostages now.
"Six!"
"I know K, I'm seeing it!"
"I'm on it guys!" Peter called back as he swung by you like a red and blue meteor, following the greenish abomination currently climbing up the side of a skyscraper, carrying a sports car on his free hand as effortlessly as if it was a toy.
"One little question though" He switched to coms, "What the hell is that thing??"
"That thing" You explained, "is Norman Osborn…"
Peter's hand slipped, sending him flying face first into the building wall,
"Say what?!"
"We'll fill you up later, Spidey" Kate quipped, "For now, would you mind giving us a hand before King-kong over there kills anyone? I don't trust his butter fingers not to drop that Audi"
"Yes, ma'am" You could hear Peter's smile in his voice, "S.H.I.E.L.D girls are so bossy"
"Well, we are your superiors..." You noted, finally arriving at the entrance of the building when he was already halfway to the top.
"Ugh, I hate it when you pull rank on me" He groaned, swerving to dodge the shards of broken glass raining upon him.
You snorted,
"No you don't"
"No, I don't" He admitted, "Kinda turns me on"
"Ew! Guys, I can hear you" Kate catched up to you, shooting an arrow hooked to a line around her belt. Peter wasn't surprised to see it hit its mark flawlessly on a ledge above his head, "Hi, hot stuff, need a ride?"
You rolled your eyes, but wrapped your arms around her shoulders nonetheless, holding on tight.
"Hey!" Peter protested, mid swing, "No flirting with my girl!"
"I saw her first!" Kate released the latch, and soon you both were ascending at breakneck speed, easily surpassing Peter, "Race you to the top, Spidey!"
His laughter resonated through the coms, as he sped up to follow you, guns blazing into the battle.
…
There was no laughter anymore. The friendly banter and quick comebacks had died long ago, the second you had realized it was a trap. The goblin creature was far more intelligent than you were led to believe, having set the ploy from the very beginning, his seemingly driftless rampage through the city, not so random after all.
And far more psychotic, as you had learnt when he tore open the car in his hands to reveal the terrified blond man inside.
"HARRY!"
Peter's horrified scream matched your own.
"Well well well, it seems you awake quite the loyalty" a massive hand closed around Harry's torso, his indigo orbs finding yours across the rooftop "for such a pathetic little worm"
"Let him go, Goblin" Kate's tone was placating, almost gentle, "you don't know what you're doing…"
The creature laughed,
"That's what you think? What your imbecilic little investigation concluded?" Kate and you exchanged a look. Of course. Your investigation about the Green Goblin and other Oscorp shady experiments relied heavily on Norman Osborn personal files. The thought of the passionate scientist, who valued his work more than his own son, lying in his own research had never even crossed your minds. He had played you like a fiddle, misled you every step of the way, and you had bought right into it.
"I worked with S.H.I.E.L.D longer than you had been alive, and Fury thinks he can sic you after me? Two little girls playing spy and my own creation??" Harry looked about ready to pass out as the Goblin waved him around, gesticulating with his hands as he spoke.
Through the corner of his eye, Peter caught a glimpse of Kate inching closer to the beast, and was only half interested when he inquired,
"What do you mean your creation?"
"Everything special about you," The Goblin's deformed visage twisted in what Peter assumed was supposed to be a smirk, "came from one of my labs!"
"That might be true, you might have involuntarily given me my powers, but you didn't make me Spider-man" Peter countered, "Mister Stark gave me the suit, and showed me what it meant to be a hero, and I loved him and admire him more than you will ever be able to understand, but he didn't make me Spider-man either.
I choose to be Spider-man, every day. I created myself, cause it isn't who we were made to be that makes us who we are. Our choices make us who we are! You might have the powers and appearance of a monster, but you don't have to be one!"
"If you really think that, you are even more stupid than I thought, Peter Parker"
"Pe-peter?" Harry gasped through the creatures crushing grasp around his torso. Peter hesitated for a second, before taking his mask off.
"Yeah, it's me, buddy" He admitted, watching his friend's eyes go wide, "It's going to be ok, Haz. We'll get you out of this, I promise…"
Famous last words. Peter should have known better by then than to jinx things like that. Because not two minutes later, he was seeing Kate's little ambush fail, the creature's tail whipping around with enough force to send her flying against a wall and knock her out, Peter's own kick just a little too slow to stop the Goblin from grabbing you in his free hand.
"Wings? It has fucking wings??" Peter cursed under his breath, scrambling to follow the monster as he flapped his enormous, membranous wings, soaring across the city. But the creature had no intention of going too far.
"You say our choices make us who we are, very well" The Goblin challenged him, hovering above 700 feet of empty air, and Peter's heart stopped. "Let's see what yours are. What is it going to be, your friend… or your lover?"
"Don't do it, Goblin!" He yelled, standing on a ledge, ready to pounce, when he saw it. Or rather, saw her, purple hair blowing in the wind, standing on the air, a little lower and further behind from the Goblin, one palm pointed down, creating some sort of sonic wave that kept her up. She signaled a series of orders with her free hand, and Peter nodded almost imperceptibly, but enough for you to realize something was happening. You twisted in the Goblins grip to see what was going on at your back. Oh, fuck.
"Make your choice, Peter. Now!"
Norman Osborn let go of you and Harry at the same time, leaving you to watch your boyfriend dive for your ex. But you weren't falling, you were floating, cushioned by a column of vibrating air.
"Don't worry, rookie," You heard an annoyingly familiar voice say, "big sis is here…"
Great. You were never going to live this down, now.
Meanwhile, Peter had problems of his own, the momentum the Goblin had thrown his own son away making it difficult for him to catch Harry on time.
And even after he had the other man safe in his arms, he wouldn't stop squirming, fighting in his hold.
"Noooo! Go after her! Save her!!"
Peter managed to land the both of them in a terrace,
"She's ok! She's fine, see? She's got this! She's got this…" Peter finally released Harry, pointing up to the place where you still were hovering in the air with that other agent.
"She… she's… flying?"
"I think that is actually the other one's making…" Peter shrugged, scratching the back of his neck. Harry started pacing back and forth, obviously overwhelmed, trying to make sense of everything that had just happened.
"And you're Spider-man…" he turned to Peter, who nodded. "And that thing… what the fuck was that thing?"
Peter hesitated,
"Apparently, a crazy scientist" he finally decided on a half truth.
"A crazy… Mate, what even is your life?"
"Honestly? I've been asking myself that same question for years…"
Harry barked out a watery, hysterical laugh. He wanted to punch the shorter guy, he wanted to throw himself at his feet and thank him for saving his life. To apologize for all the drunken midnight calls, and also stab him in his boyishly handsome face for being so fucking noble and heroic and brave and impossibly perfect and for stealing his girl.
He clutched as his chest, the burn almost making him double over in pain, and he realized he was hyperventilating.
"Harry, Harry, look at me. Look at me! Do you feel my chest? Can you feel my chest under your hand?"
Harry noticed then that Peter was pressing his open palm, splayed against the spider logo on his own chest. He nodded his affirmation.
"Good, feel how it moves? Breath with me" Peter ordered, "inhale…"
Harry breathed in, in time with his friend's expanding chest.
"Now exhale"
Harry let go of his breath.
"That's right, you're doing so great" Peter's praise warmed up something inside his gut. "Inhale…" and Harry did, catching a faint whiff of your perfume. Peter smelled like you, the realization making him notice just how close to each other they were, only inches apart. And he wondered idly if that was the view you were used to, the one you favored over everything else: warm brown eyes, staring into your soul, right before leaning in. He wondered if you appreciated those hard, muscular shoulders under your hands, before pulling him close. He wondered if Peter's lips still tasted like you.
And before he knew it, Peter found himself with Harry's mouth crashing on his.
He knew he should stop it, step away, but he was rooted to the spot, caught off guard by the sudden onslaught of sensations. It was different from kissing a girl. Hard planes where he was used to soft curves. The tickle of scruff, and slightly chapped lips where he was used to your strawberry sweet lipstick. But as Harry's tongue licked his bottom lip, begging for entrance, Peter couldn't help but open up to him, to surrender to him, as his tongue conquered every inch of Peter's mouth, a greddy, hungry victor.
"I hate you so much" Harry breathed against Peter's mouth, even as his big hands came to frame the brunet's face, the metal of his finger rings cool against Peter's cheeks
"Doesn't feel like hate…" He quipped, before scraping his teeth against Harry's lips, tearing a moan out of him.
"No, it doesn't" the taller boy admitted, pushing one thigh between Peter's, gasping as he felt one of the hero's hands coming to rest against his lower back, pressing him closer.
"You taste like cigarettes" Peter marveled, for some reason finding the bittersweet taste delicious.
"And you taste like her" Harry replied, diving in again.
Peter froze. Her. You. His girlfriend.
"Harry… Harry stop" Peter muttered, between nibbles "we need to stop. This is wrong"
"Feels right" The heir protested, teeth latching onto Peter's lower lip to stop him from pulling away. Peter groaned, but managed to break the kiss anyway.
"It's not. We can't do this to her."
Harry sighed, resting his forehead against Peter's, still reluctant to let go completely,
"I know…" he admitted.
They stood like that for a few moments, willing breathings to calm, and hearts to slow down.
"You should go" Harry spoke finally, taking a step back, Peter immediately missing the warmth of his body in his arms. He wanted to say something, anything, to chase away the heartbreak, the loneliness in those pale blue eyes, but he couldn't. The knot in his own throat would not allow it.
So he just stepped away, slipping his mask on, and jumped. He caught a glimpse of Harry's teary, red face, sticking out from the balcony to watch him go, before shooting off a web and swinging away, back to the skyscraper where Kate had fallen. Because if he knew you at all, that was exactly where you were going to be, taking care of your best friend.
…
"...I'm telling you, I had everything under control!"
"Is that why you were hanging 700 feet in the air?" The purple haired girl argued, crossing her arms over her chest, "Admit it, rookie, you're lucky I arrived just in time to save your ass. Again."
You were fuming, face flushed and eyes bright, and Peter found himself struck yet again by how gorgeous you were. A pang of guilt stabbed his stomach.
"I didn't ask you too" You replied, petulantly, "and stop calling me 'rookie', I'm a level 9 agent."
"... I'm still higher than you"
"For one level!" You cried in frustration, "One single fucking level!"
"Would you two shut up?" Kate stumbled up, and Peter broke free from his haze to hurry and wrap a stabilizing arm around her shoulders, "You're giving me a headache"
"Yeah, that would be the concussion," purple quipped, "don't worry, Simmons should be here any minute to take a look at that"
"Yay, finally a sane person to talk to" Kate deadpanned. Purple ignored her.
"And you must be the boyfriend…" She singsonged, nudging you with her shoulder, "He's cute under the mask, how did you managed to get him to go out with you?"
"Hey!" Peter and you exclaimed indignantly, in unison.
"I'm kidding, jeez!" She raised her hands in surrender. "Come on, won't you introduce us?"
You rolled your eyes, but complied anyway,
"Daisy, this is Peter Parker. Peter, this is Daisy Johnson, weirdo fancies herself my sister"
"Ooh, 'fancies'! You've spent way too much time with that brit boy, didn't you?"
"Daisy, I swear to god I will-"
"You need to tell her" Kate whispered, taking advantage of your distraction.
"Wh-what?"
She scoffed, Kate had never had much patience for anyone's bullshit.
"About what just happened with Harry. She will understand, Peter, I promise. But only if she hears it from you"
"H-how do you know?"
"I see better from afar" The archer smirked, before returning her attention to you and, apparently, your sister.
"Are they always like that?" Peter whispered, a little alarmed. Kate snorted,
"Just wait till you meet the rest of her old team…"
"Yeah, what do you say, boyfriend?" Daisy smirked, mischievous glimmer in her eyes so much like yours, "Ready to meet the family?"
Peter gulped, he really wasn't.

Outside of Team Red, who are the copycats' favourite heroes, and is there anyone you really want the group to interact with? (Ps absolutely love your work)
hello hello!
what a great question!
So Miles’s favorite superhero outside of Team Red is Steve. I think that’s pretty obvious. They just hit it right off, the two of them. Similar sense of humor. Miles likes when Steve forgets that he’s 14 and just goes off on one. He likes that Steve treats him like an adult and talks to him seriously about all kinds of shit. He is captivated with watching Steve negotiate the end of his superhero career (Steve is half-retired in this verse). It’s kind of poetic because Miles is just starting his.
Angel’s fave is Wade, but him aside, her favorite superhero is either Kate Bishop or America Chavez. While she’s got a huge crush on America, she’s in awe at Kate and her skill with the bow--but she’s also amazed at how Kate managed to break away from Clint and to become her own superhero, despite still sharing her name with him. She even still has a pretty good relationship with Clint. Angel thinks that one day, if she stayed in the business, she would want to be able to do something like that with Peter.
Louis’s favorite superhero in general is actually Spiderman, but he is also taken by Sam Wilson. Sam Wilson, now that Louis has bumped into him a few times, is very much like ‘Goals’ for Louis--not as a superhero. Louis doesn’t plan on superhero-ing for his whole life. But as a person. Sam’s social work with the VA and his dedication to the causes he stands behind are absolutely inspiring for Louis. Louis hopes that he can be as personable and successful as Sam, in his personal life and in making a difference in others’.
Dave honestly doesn’t have a favorite superhero outside of Team Red. Daredevil is his hero. When he was young, he flitted around between Ironman and the Black Widow, but if you were to ask him who his favorite hero was, he would have told you Prince or Queen instead of any superperson. He’s a little disillusioned with most heroes, actually. He doesn’t see how their lives overly affect his own--like, he doesn’t imagine them to be playing in even the same sandpit. He’d be in awe of them if he met them, but in terms of inspiration? Nah.
As for the second part of your question about who I would want the group to interact with-
I have a few folks I’m trying to work into Inimitable. Who I’m interested in right now are She-Hulk, Hulk, Wolverine, and Kamala Khan.
Thanks for such a great question anon!!

Runaways was...*sigh*
Before y’all drag me, I’ve been a fan of the Runaways since it’s inception. I loved that the book was this anti-super teen book and prided itself to be the antithesis of Teen Titans. But I remember the years in between this current run and Vaughn’s last book with this series. I remember being a fan and watching the characters I grew up with being mistreated and settling for minor appearances. I remember that page from Avengers Arena of a mutilated Nico Minoru dying in the snow begging to stay alive. In fact, this is how I, @filipfatalattractionrblog , and @majingojira ever e-met, through mutual outrage.
As good as Lowell’s run has been, Runaways biggest obstacle has been its own theme. They never step up and try to be more than just these group of people who hate everyone who isn’t a cool teen that hates heroes. And sometimes it’s a bit tone deaf since it’s theme is the reason why the Runaways don’t have any sustainability when writers don’t care about them.
So this is the conclusion of the Doc Justice arc which served as a commentary of the expenditure of non-popular characters’ death being treated as a prop for someone else’s suffering. It is a theme we are all familiar with if you are a hardcore Runaways fan. Doc Justice served as the character that c-list characters died for to pump up their grief and popularity. Old cynical white man who uses young and fresh but not quite as popular characters to maintain a sense of purpose and drive to stay relevant to the point that being relevant supercedes being heroic or on a meta level, being interesting. It highlights this industry’s fascination of needless character death of lesser known heroes to propel other more popular characters relevancy.
And it was a good arc. An arc with twists and turns and an actual honest to god villain that the team had to overcome. Doc Justice and the J-Team was fun on its own.
But the overall story implications is what I take umbrage with. And we are over 30 issues in this run and I have to ask: what have the Runaways actually learned? What have they actually gained and developed as characters? They are essentially the same as where they started and this arc presented a reality that maybe they can be conventional heroes.
This arc felt like Lucy yanking the football away just as Charlie Brown was going to kick it. Before this even began, everyone knew that Doc Justice was sus and immediately suspected that he was up to something only to be proven right and for the Runaways to return to the status quo of being too cool to help people in need and just being shit heroes.
It was a battle between Karolina’s need to be something in her life and be more than just a blonde less competent Julie Power vs the pessimistic Gert and even after her death and resurrection, Gert won. Gert is always right and we all just have to deal with Gert being right without actually being challenged on her ideals or lack of them. And at this point, I am sick of it.
For once, Karolina’s characterization extended beyond what girl she was crushing on or whom she was with. And I guarantee that the next issue will have Gert gloating about how right she was about being a superhero. For once Victor finally was given an opportunity to be the hero opposite of his destiny of being the successor of Ultron but alas, Gert just showed her toxic being a superhero is.
I don’t find a character who refuses to be better inspiring nor do I find her pessimistic outlook to be refreshing. The runaways have been recycling the same amount of failure for over a decade and a half.
Lowell created Doc Justice specifically for Gert’s philosophy to win. Like I pointed out that the Runaways could have just as easily reached out to Kate Bishop and the West Coast Avengers. They could have just as easily suggested Karolina join up with them but nope, that would mean that Gert would be challenged by an actual hero in Kate Bishop. I mean Nico is part of the Forums, she could have easily reached out to the Champions. But nope, we got to shit kick her for daring to want to be a hero and for being hopeful to prove Gert correct.
I don’t know. I just worry what comes of an isolated Runaways team that isn’t part of anything. I mean Incoming involves a reassembled New Warriors, Champions, and Power Pack, but outside of Molly appearing in the background, it is just another event the Runaways are apart of in spite of having everything to do with them.
Regardless, it’s a good issue in spite of my issues with where this book is heading and it’s own theme strangling the life out of this book.

Representation and the future of the MCU
I’ve been into WandaVision pretty intensely, it’s a great show. I wonder if the other shows will live up to it. I think Falcon and the Winter Soldier will be ok, I highly doubt Bucky will be queer because in some article I saw that Loki will have a male and female love interest in his show so someone is patting themselves on the back for that. It’s probably going to lopsided, like passionate with the female and a few cheeky remarks with the male. In the past I would have been ok with that, but I’m tired of ok. The MCU skipped and danced around having adequate representation of women and minorities where only sidekicks and love interest. They only became leads in Black Panther and Captain Marvel the 18th and 21st released films. From the studio’s view they have to find out if the public is ready and willing to pay for a film with a non male, non white lead. If a film is released with a non male, non white lead and does poorly it will be blamed on that rather than a bad script, superhero fatigue, or a merit of other thing that can go wrong in a film, for example, every female lead superhero movie that isn’t the first Wonder Woman or Captain Marvel. Supergirl, Catwoman, and Electra would have been just as bad if they had white male leads.
The golden age of comics mostly had white, straight, cis male heroes because white, straight, cis men were writing the stories. The comic’s code didn’t allow lgbt+ character so adapting the older characters was easy. Even silver age comics were affected for example, Mystique and Destiny where meant to be the biological parents of Nightcrawler, but the comic’s code forbade Mystique and her genderfluid glory and her and Destiny were roommates for a while. In the fox X-men movies there isn’t a hint a of Mystique’s pansexuality, not even for the sake of the male gaze. And people can say well in the comics… and well that happened later. Yes, that’s true but those who were working on the stories were trying to have representation, but it was crushed many times before it could happen.
Right now the MCU machine shows no signs of stopping and is introducing the next crop of heroes. In WandaVision the twins Billy and Tommy have been introduced, code names Wiccan and Speed. If they stick around, we have to see how the show goes, the MCU may have the Young Avengers team in the future. In Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness the character of America Chavez will be introduced, and Theodore Altman is a Kree/Skrull hybrid so he could around in the universe. All these characters are queer. Billy and Teddy are married in the comics. Tommy is bisexual and in a relationship with fellow young avenger and bisexual David Alleyne. America Chavez was raised by two mothers and is a lesbian. Kid Loki might be there. Kate Bishop, who will be in the Hawkeye series, she’s Hawkeye junior, has kinda crushed on America. This most likely won’t be mentioned. Will the MCU include a full picture of these characters, their hopes, dreams, motivations, and histories or just have enough pieces of the characters on screen to say look we have queer characters.
I know that Valkyrie is queer and will probably have a crush on Jane Foster, but that most likely won’t turn into anything. There was talk that in some way it would be confirmed that Carol Danvers and Maria Rambeau were a couple. Carol and Valkyrie would be a great couple.
*Mystique debuted during the bronze age of comics, but the story about her almost being Nightcrawler’s father is accurate.

Character you want?
Haven Lemos
Please describe the character for us
When Haven was born, her parents said they could have sworn they gave birth to the sun, so bright and cheerful their little one was. Growing up wasn’t easy for Haven—her family immigrated from Cuba to the United States when she was small. Haven doesn’t remember a life in Cuba, but she knows that everything her parents have done was to secure a better life for their children, and because of that Haven has always admired them.
Haven’s formative years were spent in Miami, Florida, which meant that even though she was away from Cuba, she was able to grow up immersed in her culture even outside of her own home. The older she grew, the more responsibilities fell to Haven, but she took every one of them in stride. With parents that were constantly working to make ends meet, Haven spent much of her free time taking care of her siblings. She may have grown up faster than most kids her age, but Haven never let that get to her. Her optimism and sunny disposition were constant. Haven worked as hard as her parents in every thing she did. She wanted to make them proud and wouldn’t take their sacrifices for granted. One day, Haven hoped to take care of them the way they took care of her.
As a child, most of her peers found her to be strange. Haven has always been quirky and unique, and to top it off she was smart and her favorite subject was science. Most of the other kids couldn’t quite relate—their favorite subject was recess, long after recess stopped being a thing. Haven became one of the top students in science for their school district, and graduated with AP courses in biology, physics, and chemistry (her favorite). To Haven, the logical next stop was the prestigious San Fransokyo Institute of Technology. She wanted to attend the school so desperately, but knew that with her family’s financial situation, it was only a dream. But with a push from her chemistry teacher, Haven’s dreams came true: admission and a full scholarship.
At SFIT, Haven truly came into her own. She was surrounded by students similar to herself, and lucky enough to spend every day learning more about the thing she absolutely loved. Chemistry came naturally to the girl, and it wasn’t long before she was conducting her own experiments, hoping to push the subject to new heights, beyond anything the world already knew. The only thing that made the experience better than she could ever imagine was the group of friends she almost suddenly found herself a part of. She couldn’t imagine how she had managed a life without the four of them. She even had a nickname among the group: Honey Lemon. (You’d have to ask Freddy why.)
It didn’t take long for the crush to develop. Tadashi Hamada was her friend and her equal. How could she not fall in love? The friendship blossomed into a full-on mutual flirtation after the two were paired up for a class project. She loved everyone in their group, but Tadashi easily moved from best friend to boyfriend. Not wanting to disrupt the group dynamic, the duo decided it would be best to keep their relationship quiet for now. The transition started slowly, with stolen kisses when no one else was looking, and much more free time dedicated to simply spending time together. They would lie awake for hours in each other’s dorm rooms, talking about science, their lives, and their futures.
Haven and Tadashi never got the chance to make the possibility of a future between the two of them official. Their junior year, Tadashi helped his brother Hiro enter the SFIT school science fair. Haven had heard so much about Hiro, and the whole group was there to support Tadashi’s younger brother. The kid was only 13, but he may have been the smarted thirteen-year-old Haven had ever known. Even at his young age, Hiro would be a perfect fit at SFIT. When a mysterious fire broke loose at the fair, everything changed. Students, faculty, and visitors all evacuated, and not moments after the last person was out of the building, the whole place exploded. When the smoke cleared in the early hours of the morning, one thing was clear:
Tadashi never made it out of the building.
Haven had never imagined heartbreak to feel this way. A piece of her heart was missing, and Haven was sure it would never feel whole again. How do you move on from such a loss? Whatever Haven felt at the loss of Tadashi, she put on a brave face when around her friends. Haven wasn’t going to stop being the ray of sunlight and optimism she’d always been, for all of them, for herself, and especially for Hiro. The young boy had now lost both his parents and his older brother, and with all the love she had for Tadashi, she was going to look after Hiro as much as she could.
With SFIT destroyed, the students were relocated to Elias. The new location helped Haven move on. She graduated from Walt University with top honors and started working toward building the future she’d talked so often about with Tadashi. Now she’s attending graduate school, working part time in a lab, and working as a teaching assistant in the Walt chemistry department. Tadashi is on her mind constantly. But Haven is looking forward to better days.

It’s time to see that sample para.
Peach cream smudged cheeks. A thin, careful stroke of liner. Mascara. Waterproof. Uncertainty behind saddened eyes. Hair twisted up into a high bun. The best way to keep it out of her experiments. He’d casually remarked that one day. Still she let wispy bangs hang loose. A generous swipe of neutral toned lipstick. Lips pressed together to distribute the color, and Haven sighed.
Heartbreak wasn’t supposed to happen this way. The love of your life wasn’t supposed to die at twenty-one.
Haven stared at her reflection, and the person staring back at her seemed like a muted version of herself. A neutral face, hair up, black dress, black tights, black everything. Haven fidgeted with the peter pan collar at her neck, the white a stark contrast to everything else. It seemed both so wrong and right at the very same time. She’d never been one to conform, and for that moment she knew that even in his death, Tadashi would be proud. Glasses were carefully replaced to their spot at the bridge of her nose. She’d chosen the translucent pair for this occasion.
A faint drizzle had started as she stepped out from the dorms, and she wondered idly how long the students would be able to stay. There wasn’t exactly a school anymore, but that was a worry for Future Haven. The weather wasn’t a surprise, especially for northern California this time of year, but still it felt appropriate. As if they sky, too, knew of the tragedy they mourned today. Meteorology was a science, after all, and whether they knew it or not, the science community had suffered a great loss.
By the time they reached the cemetery, rain poured from the sky. A fitting welcome, Haven thought, quickly stepping beneath Wyatt’s unfurled umbrella. Hers was a bright pink, a perfect spot of brightness in normal dreary weather, but today that didn’t seem right. Eventually Haven knew she’d put on her bright sunny disposition as often as she could, but right now was a time to let themselves mourn.
The service wasn’t terribly long, expected due to the rain. The plot was near his parents’, and every so often, Haven would look over to glimpse at Hiro. She couldn’t imagine how he was handling things right now. When all was said and done, the group began to disperse, planning to gather afterwards at Aunt Cass’s where friends and family could drink tea and share memories. Their little friend group, now minus a member, lingered, and she’s pretty sure it was Leiko who shoved the umbrella in her hand before they, too, left for the Lucky Cat.
So this was it. Haven Lemos, alone, and Tadashi Hamada’s grave. The plot of grass where he’d lay forever. It wasn’t far from where his parents lay, the three of them at least together again in their final resting place. Haven’s eyes lingered on the headstone, and the hyphen within which Tadashi’s entire life lay. All of his accomplishments, his light, his laughter, his love, her love for him, his brain, his smile, reduced to a punctuation mark, followed by a date past which the two of them would never truly be a couple.
Moments passed until finally Haven knew it was time. Gently she placed her hand atop the marble headstone, caressing it as if she would his face. The ‘I love you’ was implicit; she needn’t speak those three little words aloud. Gathering herself, Haven tightened her grip on the umbrella before heading in the direction of the Lucky Cat Café to meet up with the others at Aunt Cass’s.
This wasn’t the last time she’d see this place.
Anything else, love?

COMIC BOOK REFERENCES & EASTER EGGS - Avengers: Endgame (2019)
Woah. Avengers: Endgame is everything fans could have hoped for and then some. Concluding over 10 years’ worth of storytelling, it’s no surprise that the movie is full of Easter eggs and comic book references. The following is a guide to all the ones I’ve spotted along with any deviations from the source material (I will update this as more come to light). Note that owing to the convoluted and complex nature of comic books, I’ve tried to include only the most essential information regarding a character’s history and backstories.
Though Endgame isn’t a direct adaption of any particular comic book storyline, the concept of the Avengers travelling through time is present in the Avengers Forever arc (Avengers Forever #1-12, 1998-99). In this limited series, various Avengers from the past, present, and future come together to protect Rick Jones from Immortus, the Master of Time.
Endgame opens with Clint Barton teaching his daughter, Lila, archery. At one point he calls her Hawkeye. There has in fact been a female Hawkeye in the comics, Kate Bishop, who is mentored by Barton. After losing his family to the Decimation, Barton takes on a new costume, which harkens to his Ronin identity from the source material. The original Ronin in the comics is Maya Lopez, a deaf woman with photographic reflexes who initially used the name Echo. In a flashback from The New Avengers #30 (2007) we see Clint Barton—who had given up being Hawkeye—wear Lopez’s costume and take on the Ronin identity to go on a mission to rescue Lopez from the Hand in Japan. It is the Ultimate Universe incarnation of the character, however, who loses his wife and three children (in this instance they were murdered by Black Widow).
Five years after meeting the Avengers, we see Captain Marvel sporting a short haircut, a look taken from her comic book counterpart. Black Widow tracks Clint to Japan, locating him just as he kills Akihiko. A version of Akihiko also exists in the comics, and is a member of the Yakuza as well.
There’s a precedent for a smart Hulk in the source material. First off there’s Gray Hulk, who, while not as smart as Banner, did have a higher intellect than the Savage Hulk. Then there’s Gravage Hulk, which came about when the Gray and Savage Hulk personas were merged. The film, however, seems to have adapted the Merged Hulk (also known as the Professor), who’s a combination of Bruce Banner, Gray Hulk, and Savage Hulk.
In the film we see Thor establish New Asgard in Norway. This is taken from Thor #2 (2007), with Thor rebuilding Asgard on Earth (he has it floating over Oklahoma) after it’s destroyed.
Rhodey brings up the idea of killing baby Thanos so as to not have him grow up and collect the Infinity Stones. A similar idea is played out in Cosmic Ghost Rider #1 (2018) with Frank Castle from an alternate reality (who has gained the powers of a Ghost Rider as well as the Power Cosmic) going back in time to kill baby Thanos before he becomes evil.
The blue and red suit we see Rocket wear in the film is his classic outfit from the comic books.
Steve Rogers says “Hail Hydra” as part of a ruse in the film, with his comic book counterpart uttering the same phrase at the end of Captain America: Steve Rogers #1 (2016) (though it would transpire that this Hydra-affiliated version of Captain America is in actuality not the classic Cap we all know). The character’s new uniform in the film is an adaptation of his classic chain mail costume from the source material.
The Mark LXXXV Iron Man armour, with the red torso section and yellow arms and legs, evokes the character’s early armour models from the source material. For much of the character’s history, Tony Stark’s limbs appeared to be covered with form fitting sleeves instead of actual armour.
When Black Widow and Hawkeye arrive on Vormir, the Red Skull notes that Romanoff’s father is named Ivan, with Barton’s mother being named Edith; this is also true for their comic book counterparts.
When infiltrating Camp Lehigh, Steve wears a uniform bearing the name “Roscoe.” In the comics, Roscoe Simons took on the role of Captain America after Steve became Nomad. In Hank Pym’s lab the original Ant-Man helmet from the comics can be seen.
In the film Peggy mentions the name “Braddock,” noting that he hasn’t checked in for a while. This is a reference to Brian Braddock who, after getting into a motorcycle accident, is saved by Merlyn and Roma who transform him into Captain Britain. It could also refer to Brian’s father, Sir James Braddock, who was also a member of the Captain Britain Corps.
The man who drives Howard Stark is Edwin Jarvis, Howard’s, and later Tony’s, butler from the comics. The character is played by James D’Arcy, who also portrayed him in the Agent Carter television series, making this the first time a character from a Marvel Cinematic Universe TV show has appeared in an MCU film.
The Hulk holding up the rubble of the Avengers facility is reminiscent of the character doing a similar act in Secret Wars #4 (1984) to save his fellow heroes from being crushed under tons of rock.
Thanos breaking Captain America’s shield occurs in both media, the Titan doing so in The Infinity Gauntlet #4 (1991). The comic book incarnation of Captain America is also deemed to be worthy enough to wield Mjolnir, first doing so in The Mighty Thor #390 (1988).
Pepper wearing her own armour is a nod to how the character gets a suit of her own in the comics, adopting the identity of Rescue.
While the mainstream incarnation of the Hulk has yet to wield the Infinity Gauntlet, his Ultimate Universe counterpart has, this occurring in Ultimate Comics The Ultimates #25 (2013). In the Ultimate Universe there are eight Infinity Gems and two Gauntlets (with there being space for four gems on each). The Hulk was in possession of both Gauntlets, but only five of the gems. Iron Man using the Infinity Gauntlet has also occurred in the comic books, the character doing so in The Avengers #12 (2011). In the issue, Iron Man uses it to send the Hood back to prison and then make the Gauntlet disappear (in actuality he had it transported away, dividing the Infinity Gems among the Illuminati).
Thor joins the Guardians of the Galaxy, dubbing them the Asgardians of the Galaxy. This is the actual name of a team from the comic books comprising of Annabelle Riggs, Angela (Thor’s half-sister), Kid Loki, Thunderstrike, Skurge, Valkyrie, and Throg.
In both media Sam Wilson has indeed taken up the mantle of Captain America, with the comic book incarnation first doing so in Captain America #25 (2014). Interestingly, in both cases it’s an elderly Steve Rogers who appoints his successor.
With Endgame being the culmination of 21 films, it is absolutely filled with MCU Easter Eggs and callbacks. There are way too many to list, so I’ll just go through some of the more notable ones. The Avengers revisit pivotal moments from past films on their quest to obtain the Infinity Stones. These include the 2012 Battle of New York (as seen in The Avengers), visiting Jane Foster on Asgard in 2013 (as seen in Thor: The Dark World), stealing the Power Stone before Peter Quill is able to on Morag (as seen in Guardians of the Galaxy), and going to Vormir to obtain the Soul Stone (as seen in Avengers: Infinity War). Minor characters reappearing include Jack Rollins (appeared in Captain America: The Winter Soldier), Howard the Duck (first appeared in Guardians of the Galaxy), Harley Keener (appeared in Iron Man 3), and Thaddeus Ross (first appeared in The Incredible Hulk). We also see characters on screen again that have passed away such as Frigga (died in Thor: The Dark World), Howard Stark (death seen in Captain America: Civil War), the Ancient One (died in Doctor Strange), Peggy Carter (died in Captain America: Civil War), Agent Sitwell (died in Captain America: The Winter Soldier), Brock Rumlow (died in Captain America: Civil War), and Alexander Pierce (died in Captain America: The Winter Soldier), while Arnim Zola is mentioned by Howard Stark. And while Avengers: Endgame doesn’t have a post-credits scene, the sound of metal being hammered can be heard over the Marvel Studios logo, recalling the scene where Tony Stark builds his first Iron Man armour while in captivity from Iron Man.

It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year
Summary: As a result of some misinformation from Yelena, Kate comes to the Avengers Christmas party wearing an ugly sweater. Fortunately, Natasha saves her from too much humiliation and loans her one of Yelena's pantsuits, much to Yelena's displeasure. But things quickly turn bad for Kate once again when Yelena turns her attentions to embarrassing Kate in front of Clint...
Word Count: 4005
“Definitely not an ugly sweater party,” Kate mumbled to herself, taking in the entire room that was dressed in formal attire while she was the only one wearing an ugly sweater.
It was the Avengers Christmas party, and Kate had been so, so excited to come and hopefully make a good impression on what would maybe one day be her future coworkers if her Avengers training turned out well.
However, her biggest mistake had been expressing this to Yelena because the blonde had assured her that the entire thing was going to be an ugly sweater party and that Kate had nothing to worry about.
Kate now saw that Yelena had been very much messing with her despite Yelena’s insistence that she was being sincere. Kate swallowed nervously, not sure what she was going to do considering the fact that everyone saw her when she came in and seemed to keep staring at her likely because they did not recognize her.
So now she was stuck in this predicament and could not exactly turn back super easily until she was sure that people had stopped looking at her.
So much for making a good impression. Now everyone was going to know her as the idiot that showed up in an ugly sweater to a formal party.
“Hi, Kate!” a voice suddenly spoke up, and Kate turned to look at the person. It was Peter and he was very nervously walking in with a person that must have been MJ. Kate could not help a slight smile, happy to see that he had finally worked up the courage to ask the girl out since he had been talking about it and stressing over it weeks beforehand.
“Hey, Peter,” Kate greeted kindly, and Peter suddenly froze, looking at her with wide eyes.
“Oh, no! I didn’t know this was an ugly sweater party! Do you think I have time to—” Peter stopped as he looked at the groups of people in the party and away from Kate. Kate sighed deeply, forcing a smile on her face that felt more like a grimace. Peter slowly nodded with the realization, taking in the sight of everyone carefully.
“Oh… It’s not an ugly sweater party,” Peter trailed off. However, as soon as he uttered the words, his eyes went wide as he gaped at Kate with horror.
“And that sweater you’re wearing is gorgeous! It’s really beautiful on you and you look great in it! Don’t get me wrong, you’re—”
“Quit while you’re ahead, Parker,” Kate nodded to him with a strained smile, and Peter quieted immediately, still looking humiliated about his blunder. Kate could practically feel MJ’s amusement rolling off of her in waves, and Kate felt herself growing pretty embarrassed as well with the whole thing.
“Okay… Well, um… You want me to get you guys some punch or hot chocolate or whatever they have?” Peter offered somewhat nervously, looking between Kate and MJ. Kate shook her head, shrugging a little.
“No, that’s okay… I’m good,” Kate told him, and he nodded before turning his attention to MJ. MJ just smiled somewhat.
“Sure, Pete,” MJ agreed, and Peter wasted no time in rushing off to the tables of food and beverages to escape the situation he successfully created for himself.
MJ chuckled a little, and Kate smiled slightly, trying to move past her awkwardness. MJ looked over at her after a moment, offering the smallest of glances, and Kate found herself slightly uncomfortable even though she was technically older than MJ. Something about MJ’s ridiculously cool and calm disposition made her a little uneasy. Of course, there also was the fact that she had never met the girl before and she did not know anything about her outside of the fact that Peter had a ridiculously huge crush on her and had somehow managed to ask her out to this Christmas party.
“So… You’re Kate?”
“Yeah, and you’re MJ, right? How do you know me, if you don’t mind me asking?” Kate questioned with a grin, offering her hand to shake MJ’s, and MJ brought up her hand after a delayed moment.
“Eh… Mostly because of my undying interest in corporations, their CEOs, and their secret operations underneath the surface,” MJ explained with a weird little smile, and Kate just stared at her for a moment before clearing her throat and pulling her hand away hesitantly.
“Okay… Sounds like you’ve got some interesting hobbies,” Kate expressed, dangerously close to choking on nothing as she forced a smile in response to the girl.
“Yeah… Most people think I’m pretty weird,” MJ replied nonchalantly, seemingly unbothered by it as she looked across the room. Kate looked in the direction that MJ was gazing and she quickly caught sight of Peter. He was very animatedly talking to Tony as he poured up two hot chocolate cups, and he was looking positively silly. However, in the midst of his conversation, he raised a hand and excitedly waved to MJ, a goofy grin spreading across his lips.
“Peter obviously doesn’t,” Kate pointed out, and MJ shrugged a little, a genuine smile coming onto her face as she offered a small wave back to him.
“Well… Peter’s a little weird himself,” MJ explained, and Kate shrugged with a laugh.
“True,” Kate agreed before something suddenly caught her eye. She looked over quickly to the side and spotted Clint heading over to a table. She felt her heart flutter slightly at the sight of him, and as her gaze followed him, it was then that she caught sight of Yelena and Natasha sitting over there. Kate narrowed her eyes a little as she spotted Yelena who was very happily laughing, leaning heavily against Natasha.
“Excuse me, MJ… I’ve got to go and attend to something,” Kate told her before starting to weave through the crowd and heading toward Clint, Yelena, and Natasha.
She moved around behind Carol who was currently in happy conversation with Steve about something or another. She then pushed past Bucky and Sam who seemed much too invested in some video that Sam was playing on his phone.
Soon enough, she reached Yelena and Natasha’s somewhat secluded table where Clint was happily talking with them. She stopped as soon as she reached the table, and the three of them immediately stopped their conversation as they stared at Kate, taking in the sight of her. Yelena looked as if she were about to laugh at any moment, and Clint looked strangely smug about the entire thing. Natasha, however, just looked terribly sympathetic and seemingly unaware of what Clint and Yelena were laughing about.
“An ugly sweater party, huh, Yelena?” Kate asked after a long moment, tilting her head somewhat angrily. Natasha immediately looked back at Yelena, danger in her eyes, and Yelena burst into loud laughter.
“What? You wanted to make big impression on the Avengers and make them notice you, right? They’re certainly going to notice you now!” Yelena pointed out with a laugh, and Natasha swatted the back of her head scoldingly. Yelena ducked away, narrowing her eyes unappreciatively as she glared at Natasha for her attack.
Clint snorted, and Natasha looked at him quickly, her eyes locking onto him. Some manner of silent communication must have been shared because Natasha’s gaze hardened as she reached up and smacked the back of his head, too. However, his smack that he earned from Natasha was harder than Yelena’s.
“Ow, Nat, why?!” Clint yelped, and Natasha just narrowed her eyes as she got up from her seat between Clint and Yelena.
“You know why,” Natasha replied, her voice strongly disapproving in its tone as she glared at him. Kate could not help but wonder what Clint had done when he looked just as calm and cool as ever outside of a few chuckles.
However, she quickly came to the conclusion that he must have been in on the ugly sweater idea somehow. But even with that knowledge, she could not really bring herself to be angry with him. She also could not help but notice how nice and put together he looked in his suit.
“You clean up nice, Hawkeye,” Kate commented, unable to quite control her tongue. However, she tried to make her statement sound more teasing than serious given the fact that she would really rather that her true thoughts did not get released to the public ever. Yelena immediately smirked as she looked at Kate, noticing Kate’s feelings, and Kate mentally willed Yelena not to say anything out loud.
“Thanks. You look tacky,” Clint shot back, and Kate just offered a very much fake smile. The corners of Clint’s lips turned upward ever so slightly, and Kate huffed a little at him, feeling her smile turning slightly genuinely.
“It was kind of the look I was told to go for.”
“Mission accomplished,” Clint responded with a smirk, and Kate laughed slightly, hoping to talk more to him even though she was currently aggravated with Yelena and it was clear the blonde was not going anywhere.
However, before she could say anything else, Natasha turned her attentions to Kate, her eyes softening as she took Kate’s arm and started to guide her away from the table. Yelena immediately stood up as well and followed them away from the party.
“C’mon, Kate, I’m sure Yelena’s got something that’ll fit you perfectly,” Natasha assured her, her hand moving to Kate’s back as she guided her along gently. Kate smiled at her gratefully and was about to tell her that she could just go to her part of the compound and change clothes, but her words quickly left in favor of a smirk as Yelena cried out indignantly.
“What?! Natashka, you cannot take my clothes and just give them to her!” Yelena called, hurrying so that she could walk on Natasha’s other side. Kate just smiled wickedly, loving how this situation was turning out. It was the perfect revenge for Yelena’s trick, and Kate did not even have to confront the blonde in a more abrasive exchange.
Of course, Kate knew that she probably did not really have the fortitude to stand up to Yelena like that anyway. There was something in the blonde that somewhat scared Kate even though it was obvious that Yelena seemed to be harmless around everyone at the compound except for Bucky.
“I’m not giving them to her. I’m letting her borrow them,” Natasha clarified, and Yelena scoffed, leaning in closer to Natasha.
“I don’t want her germs on them!” Yelena told Natasha in a loud whisper, obviously not too worried about hiding this fact from Kate.
“Rooskaya, you’re acting like a child,” Natasha scolded lightly, and Yelena scoffed immediately. Kate just smiled a little, looking over at Yelena as she felt herself emboldened slightly by Natasha’s presence between them.
“Don’t worry, Yelena. I’ll try not to stain them too much,” Kate deadpanned, trying not to laugh at the look on Yelena’s face. She quickly made a mental note to make sure that she remained near Natasha, Clint, or Carol for the entire rest of the night. She knew those three were the only ones that might could stop Yelena from getting her if she got too mad about the situation.
Once they got to Natasha and Yelena’s shared room, Kate awkwardly stood near the door as Natasha started to dig through the closet. Yelena stuck close to the redhead, whispering furiously, and Natasha was replying calmly.
Finally, as Natasha withdrew a nice black pantsuit, the two sisters locked gazes for a long moment. Natasha then chuckled at the younger woman, leaning in and kissing her nose. Yelena blinked and huffed grumpily but moved her head forward to bump her forehead against Natasha’s before the redhead moved away with apparently a sarcastic comment as she left. Yelena’s eyes went wide, and she quickly chased after Natasha.
“Here, Kate,” Natasha offered the pantsuit, and Kate took it, smiling at Natasha with relief as she gazed at the older woman.
“Thank you, Natasha. You didn’t have to,” Kate expressed, and Natasha shrugged in reply.
“You’re welcome. I didn’t do anything. Technically, it’s Yelena’s pantsuit, so she’s just making tonight’s incident up to you,” Natasha explained with a wicked smile as she reached over and patted Yelena’s cheek playfully. Yelena huffed but did not move away from her as she glared. Natasha nodded to Kate as she started to head out the door.
“Why don’t you come and hang out with us when you’re changed?” Natasha invited, and Kate smiled, nodding gratefully. Natasha then headed out with Yelena on her heels, no doubt complaining more about Kate wearing her pantsuit.
Kate let out a slight breath before proceeding to change into the outfit.
Soon enough, she was out of the room and she headed back to the party, spotting Yelena, Natasha, and Clint in the same place they had been when Kate had first seen them. Kate’s eyes focused on Clint, and she tried to conjure as much coolness about her as possible as she headed over and sat down next to him. He looked over at her with a slight sigh, and she smiled widely, bumping her shoulder into his.
“So what’s up?” she questioned, and he looked down at her clothes. She resisted the urge to straighten a little under his gaze, and just stood there, waiting for him to speak.
“You changed. That’s too bad,” Clint commented, and Kate laughed a little, a grin on her face as she just looked at him.
“What? You like me better looking like an idiot?” she asked, and Clint shrugged slightly, not answering as he grinned slightly, glancing over at Natasha where she was sitting not too far from him.
“It’s truer to yourself,” Yelena pointed out, effectively answering for him, and Natasha narrowed her eyes, tickling Yelena’s side quickly for the comment. Yelena jerked away swiftly, a strangled giggle escaping her against her will as she tried her best to hold it back. Natasha grinned victoriously, and Yelena leaned back in, trying to lick the older woman. Natasha swiftly tried to dodge Yelena’s tongue that was getting much too close.
Kate could not help her smile as she looked at the sisters’ exchange.
Kate then looked around the place, noting how several people seemed to be dancing, and it was then that she fully realized that there was a dance floor.
“Oh, there’s dancing, too?” Kate questioned, and Clint nodded.
“Yeah. There’s always dancing at these things,” Clint answered her, and Kate nodded slowly, immediately finding herself dreaming of how it would be if she and Clint were to dance together. The very idea of it made her stomach flip with excitement.
However, she had to quickly try to reign herself in. She knew that there was no possible way that she and Clint would ever get to dance and there was no way that he would ever want to.
“Why don’t you two dance?” Yelena suddenly suggested, and Kate turned her attentions to the two sisters once again. Yelena was just looking between her and Clint much too smugly and Natasha was wiping her face from where Yelena had apparently succeeded in licking her.
Kate was somewhere between wanting to strangle Yelena for suggesting something so outrageous and wanting to thank her for presenting the very idea that was running through Kate’s head.
“Nah, I don’t dance,” Clint dismissively told them, and Kate felt her heart sinking just a little. However, Yelena was rather insistent, and Kate was not quite sure if she was thankful for the blonde’s determination or not.
“Of course you do! I’ve seen you dance with Laura and Natasha,” Yelena called him out, and Clint looked a little uncertain for a moment. Kate’s hope was rising back up just the smallest bit as she watched the exchange between Clint and Yelena.
“That wasn’t at a big party. It was just at Christmas at my place.”
“There is no difference, Clinton. You’re just a chicken,” Yelena challenged, and Clint groaned.
“No, I’m not. I’m old, okay?”
Yelena then immediately started making chicken noises, and Natasha huffed lightly, shaking her head as she watched the younger woman.
Now Kate honestly was beginning to wish that Yelena would stop. It was obvious that Clint did not want to and was not going to. And Kate was not sure how she would possibly contain herself if they did dance. She just knew that she would do something stupid and mess things up in her typical awkward way.
The more Kate thought about it, the more she was afraid that it was a really bad idea.
But as soon as Kate opened her mouth to interrupt Yelena, Clint suddenly spoke up.
“Okay, fine,” Clint grumbled, starting to get up from his seat, and Yelena smirked much too widely. It was then that Kate knew something was up and that Yelena must have a terrible, awful plan.
She started to argue but then Clint took her arm and all of her protests immediately disintegrated before even leaving her tongue. Her eyes widened a little and she let him guide her to the dance floor.
Once they got there, he looked terribly uncomfortable, and he held out his hand to her. She slipped her hand in his, hoping that she did not look like a total moron since she knew she was definitely staring at him. He then very hesitantly reached out to her and placed his hand on her waist, and she followed suit, placing her hand on his shoulder as she tried to recall all of those dance lessons that her mother had insisted that she go to back when her father was alive.
Kate was honestly sure that her heart was about to stop as she felt his warm hands on her, and it took everything within her not to move closer to him. His calloused hand in hers felt so right to her, and she was pretty sure that her skin was on fire even underneath her outfit in the place where his hand was sitting very properly and respectfully on the outside.
He then started to gently guide them through the motions of the dance.
He was by no means an expert or even remotely educated on how to do it, but his movements were smooth and consistent enough that she was able to follow relatively easily. She almost felt like the entire world was zoning out around them as she just gaped at him, remaining completely entranced even though she knew he was not really enjoying this.
Clint at first remained looking around them and keeping his eyes off of her, but he eventually met her gaze. He huffed slightly, hints of a smile in his stare as he looked at her.
“What?” he asked, and she was speechless for just a moment as she noted the flecks of greenish gold in his eyes. However, she quickly shook herself out of it, trying to look as normal as possible even though she felt like she could just fall into him.
“Nothing,” Kate almost whispered with a breathless giggle in spite of herself, and she looked down, forcing herself to look away for just a moment. He took in a breath to speak, and she met his eyes immediately.
“Sorry if I made you uncomfortable… I just know how Yelena is and she doesn’t give up when she decides on something. So I thought it’d just be faster if we got it over with,” Clint admitted, and Kate nodded, searching his face and trying not to linger on his lips as she glanced back up to lock eyes with him.
“Yeah, I totally get it. Yelena’s pretty persistent,” Kate admitted, and Clint smiled somewhat tightly, not entirely comfortable with this situation. Kate knew that he was not, but it still stung just a little since this was one of the greatest moments in her life that she could remember to date.
“So how’s your training been going?”
“You should know. You’re the instructor,” Kate replied with a slight laugh and a raise of her eyebrow. Clint rolled his eyes with a smile and a chuckle.
“I know how it’s been going from my side, but I want to hear what you think,” Clint told her, and Kate shrugged a little, grinning just a bit as she looked at him.
“Well… I think it’s been a good learning experience,” Kate expressed, and the words were the honest truth as she saw them. However, a smirk pulled at her lips, and she looked at Clint mischievously.
“I also think my instructor’s getting a little sloppy,” Kate nonchalantly added, and Clint raised an eyebrow curiously.
“Oh, yeah?” Clint questioned, and Kate’s grin got even larger.
“His footwork’s off. You can tell that he definitely never took dance lessons before,” Kate joked with a growing smirk, and Clint just groaned, shaking his head. Kate shrugged a little, squeezing his shoulder gently as her smirk softened into something more genuine as she gazed at him.
“But he’s the best instructor I could ask for, and there’s nobody I’d rather partner up with. Sloppy footwork and all,” Kate assured him, and Clint rolled his eyes fondly with a laugh. Kate felt her heart swelling with the fact that she had managed to crack through his normally ever so toughened exterior.
At this point, Kate could almost forgive Yelena for her determination to embarrass her and her relentless attempts at irritating her. After all, the blonde had been the one to make all of this possible.
However, she was quickly surprised when she suddenly received a text. Kate paused for a moment and moved her hand from Clint’s shoulder, withdrawing her phone as she looked at the screen. She quickly realized that it was Yelena texting her.
“Look up, Kate Bishop,” it read with a winky face accompanying it, and Kate complied, looking above her.
To her complete and utter shock and horror, there was a sprig of mistletoe hanging above her and Clint’s heads.
Her face must have reflected this surprise because Clint immediately looked up as well. His eyes went wide, and they both looked back at each other for a short moment, locking gazes wordlessly as they stared at each other in shock.
Some part of her was hoping for the impossible, but another part of her that was growing much too large was telling her that this was all way too much all at one time and that no matter how much she wished things were different, it was never going to happen.
“Kate—”
Kate immediately pulled away from him, pushing through the many guests at the party as she made a mad dash back to her apartment in the compound. Her heart was racing and her lips were burning with the anticipation for something that would not ever take place, and she had to escape quickly.
Once she got downstairs and in her apartment, she took a deep breath, slamming the door shut behind her as she let her back hit the door. She closed her eyes for a moment, expecting to feel the sinking hurt and dejection of yet another day of suffering from unrequited feelings.
However, all she felt was that shaky, gooey sensation inside of her, and the strongest urge to smile way too big and blast Taylor Swift music as loud as she could.
She knew that she would never actually get to be with him, and she would never really ever want to take him from his wife and family. And she knew she never could take him. He was not hers and never would be.
But still, her lips were tingling, and her heart was racing with the unadulterated excitement and thrill coursing through her veins and filling her head with impossible thoughts that were fun to entertain despite their lack of reality.
Tonight was maybe not so bad after all.
