Shows with Some Substance Anime Poll
A short series won the last poll, so I have to start the next one right away, and since I've kinda poll-spammed these last couple runs, this is all gonna be shit with some substance (and be sure to check below the cut because I'm really upping some long series runs from things I've previously promised - look, you'll notice if you actually read my propaganda regularly. If not, ignore and press button). This is the true binge-watching, the true marathoning, kinda poll.
And, if you're new here, I don't like making choices, but I like watching anime.
Propaganda* (*yapping, etc) below the poll. You can reblog for visibility, to yap in the tags, or for whatever reason you choose. You don't have to know me, follow me, like me, or like/know/have watched any of these shows to vote.
Propaganda:
One Piece -
Tumblr media
This one is for the (I'm sure) large intersection of OP and IASIP fans. This poll option counts for Seasons 9 and 10 (ep 264-381 / Enies Lobby and Thriller Bark) of One Piece.
Fairy Tail - I'm going into Edolas, I gotta make a Strauss siblings joke. This poll option counts for Seasons 3, 4, and 5 (ep 73-150) of Fairy Tail.
Pokemon - Like I know how to get Tyrogue to evolve into a specific Hitmon[suffix], but that's all I got. Don't get me started on IV breeding. This poll option counts for Seasons 14 and 15 (Black & White / Black & White: Rival Destinies) of Pokeani.
Food Wars! - Nothing weird at all :)
Natsume's Book of Friends - Beloved mutual(s) who like this anime, I see you putting an adorable kitty yokai on the dash. Vote with your heart.
Hunter x Hunter - All of it this time. Last time, I put it in a poll I said I'd watch half and take a break, but I'm going for length in this poll. I'm shooting straight through the 2011 start-to-finish.

Tysm for the tag! I might go in way too deep with this. While the Key to the Starry Sky arc had a lot of problems(*cough* jiggle jiggle butt gang *cough*), I feel it had a lot of interesting ideas too.
Michelle, of course, as a character was heart wrenching. The first twist of her being in the Neo-Oracion Seis wasn't much of a surprise. This is why the second twist, that being her as Lucy's doll, was so emotional. Michelle's my second favorite from the season because of this.
The counterparts of the Royal Guard from Edolas showing up was a surprising yet well made choice. I can remember I had forgotten all about them, and I had never considered the fact that they had their own earthland counterparts too! As for the members of the Legion Platoon, most of them fulfilled their roles in the story.
To the surprise of no one, Mary Hughes is my favorite member of the Platoon. Her character arc, while not as important as the main storyline, I found to be intriguing. From some dialogue in her last episode, it can be inferred that Mary had a very troubled childhood of being tricked and taken advantage of. When the Zentopian Church brought her in, it's no surprise why she learned command magic. She wanted to be strong enough so that she was always pulling the strings. While her first appearances make her look very cruel and sadistic, Mary is a very misguided character. Out of the Legion members, I would say that Mary had the hardest time coming to terms with the fact that the church(mainly Lapoint) was using her. The concept of the Legion being manipulated has the strongest ties to Mary, specifically her magic abilities. The puppeteer being a puppet herself was thematically very strong to me. On the inside, Mary Hughes isn't a bad person. In truth, she's just someone who was taught to never let her guard down, and that meant sympathy was weakness. Her stand against Guttman when Natsu and Coco needed to escape might seem like it came out of nowhere, but she really does care for the people close to her, like Coco. It was her displaying not only kindness, but a selflessness which her early season self lacked. I feel her character changed the most out of anyone in this season. To sum up this incredibly long ramble, Mary Hughes is really cool!
Since this was a Lucy Arc, it was nice seeing her be the main focus. It really explored the lore of not only who her father was, but also who she is as a person. It was nice to see! Despite it not being my favorite arc in the series, it's the one I think about the most for better or for worse.
Hi if you read all of this I'm sorry
Genuine questions for fairytail fans, how do we feel about that anime only arc with the clock??

When do u think Natsu actually realized that he fell for Lucy and i know he treats her differently but can u give moments where it's initiated from his side?
This is going to be a long post so buckle up!
Okay, first of all: the Phantom Lord arc. Though I don't think he fell in love with her at that point of time, I think it was the events that seriously solidified his partialness to her. I'd go into detail but I can already feel a long post incoming, so I'll keep it short: Lucy telling Natsu that she loves being a Fairy Tail wizard, while crying over the fact that she didn't want to leave ↓
Tumblr media
After just trusting her life in Natsu, jumping from an insanely high tower, with a mere belief that maybe she had heard him in the distance – I think it struck a chord with Natsu. Like, it would be normal to cry after a fall like that, but Lucy wasn't concerned about that aspect. Her head and heart was all about the guild, how she didn't want to go, and that resonates with Natsu. Natsu's entire life at that point is 1) Finding Igneel, and 2) being with/protecting the guild.
Then I'd say it's a pretty gradual build in their relationship. They go on a lot of missions, hang out together, and just in general spend a lot of time connecting. There's some Natsu-saves-Lucy, some Lucy-saves-Natsu, some hand holding (tenrou arc I won't forget about that, thank you anime team for adding that scene), and then comes the next pivotal moment. GMG arc and the dragon festival that follows.
By then I'd say Natsu and Lucy are very much in this friends-with-emotional-benefit zone: much more than friends, absolutely not yet lovers. But with Lucy's near-death experiences in her battles, Natsu has to refrain himself from getting involved each time Lucy gets beaten up - he becomes helpless, and the worry that's sowed inside of him gets watered each time Lucy still puts his faith in him, still trusts him to come out a winner. That entire section when Lucy's in the infirmary and she tells Natsu that her entire being trusts that Natsu can do anything, I think that's when Natsu falls in love.
Now wait!! He still doesn't quite understand that he loves her. But he understands that his feelings for Lucy are more tender than any other feelings he's ever had. He treasures her in a new, heavier way. She's become precious to him.
Precious. Where have we heard that... oh >:) ↓
Tumblr media
Now the Dragon Festival was LETHAL in a trillion ways, but especially for nalu fans. The whole Future Lucy plot and the forehead touches and the Future Natsu and Future Lucy fighting in a wasteland moments and the Natsu skipping the final GMG match to save Lucy. And of course. Future Lucy dying. It's not the first time we see Natsu get so heavily affected - it happened in the tower of heaven, when Erza was ready to give her life up. But it is the first time we see Natsu see a friend die. Like, a team mate, someone who he's responsible for bringing to the guild. And after the whole GMG conundrum? Had a single more bad thing happened Lucy during the dragon festival, he’d probably turn into a demon right there and then. Dare I even say: their relationship was the strongest at this point in time.
After the GMG and the Dragon Festival, we get the Sun Village arc (I don’t like the Eclipse celestial spirit arc so I’m not counting it, same with Key of the Starry Sky arc — technically some nalu moments but not exactly building imo) and then another big one: Tartaros. Ooooh brother, THE best arc of all times, wish Mashima knew how to replicate it. But alas, he doesn’t.
The Tartaros arc isn’t exactly a pivotal moment where Natsu “falls in love” but rather an important aspect to understand his later actions. Like this guy goes through some pretty grusome stuff, learns a lot of complicated, bad things about himself, and finishes off the arc with losing Igneel — his father that he's spent ages searching for. Natsu's entire life is turned upside down, so he decides that he has to become stronger: cue, he heads off for a year to train.
His time away isn't very elaborated on — not from Natsu's viewpoint or Lucy's. But I think it's understood that he chose not to bring along Lucy because she could be put into danger too much for him to be able to concentrate on building his strength: he knew his training would be dangerous. During this time we also have the Gildarts-scene in chapter (idk i can't be bothered to look it up but y'all know the one ↓) which is kinda debated on — who was Natsu talking about here?
Tumblr media
I'm still not certain on if it was a heart to heart on the Igneel-matter, or if it was about his guilt of leaving Lucy behind, like many theorise. I'm not even certain that it's limited to one of them — he could be talking about both. But at the very least, this entire year was one of those "distance makes the heart grow fonder" moments for him. He wanted to get back to his normal life with Lucy so bad. After all, it wasn't like him showing up at the GMG was in order to meet Lucy — had he wanted more training after that, he'd head off again, but I don't think he could physically bring himself to do it, even if it hadn't turned out that the guild had disbanded. Though that's just me speculating a bit.
And about the guild disbandment: oh jolly, he was not happy. He had finally taken the step to grow stronger to protect everyone in his beloved guild, and here Makarov went and disbanded it? Leaving Lucy completely alone? Lucy, who once jumped from a hella high tower because she was just so devoted to stay in the Fairy Tail guild? Yeah, I think that broke him a little. At this point there was just so much guilt involved around his whole relationship with Lucy, because now he had put her through so much pain only because he brought her to Fairy Tail that day in Hargeon.
The next arcs I'd say Natsu's trying to spend his time redeeming himself for the countless things he's done bad (getting the guild back together, just generally staying by Lucy's side as much as possible). And naturally he keeps getting hit by challenge after challenge (it's not easy to be a book written by his immortal brother, yk?). And it's even harder to watch Lucy die again, this time for real (he thinks bc he's stupid and also has a tumour that's nothing less than a ticking bomb) (give this guy a break lol).
Anyways: Lucy's death nr2. Natsu can't live a life without her. Now I know — he still doesn't quite understand that it's romantic love, but I think he does understand that it's pure love. No matter if kissing and reproducing was involved, all he knew was that a life without Lucy is completely unimaginable, so blinded by rage he becomes and decides to decapitate everyone in his way (sorry about that Gray).
The last couple of moments I'll go out of my way to mention as signs of love is 1. when he's won over Acnologia and falls towards Lucy, crazy relieved, saying "I'm home", 2. Gajeel pointing out Natsu's crush on Anna, Natsu basically saying "oh that's why I like Lucy so much" (I embellished it lol) and 3. "We're still gonna be together from here on out, right?" yeah that man won't ever leave her. Ever. It's just not an option.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Now since I've only talked about specific moments, here's what I have to say about his relationship with her in general:
Throughout the main plot line, we also see a shift in Natsu's behaviour. Someone here on Tumblr pointed out that Natsu always finds a way to shield Lucy if something unexpected happens, after not being able to shield her from Future Rogue. There's also the small detail of the order he calls out to people - it goes from being pretty random, to Lucy almost alwyas being on the top of the list: likely because she's always on the top of his head. And in general I'd say that Natsu initiates (i'm adding this entire paragraph bc i realised that you asked about when Natsu initiated stuff, more than when he fell in love lol) almost all of their interractions. It's Natsu who wants Lucy to join Fairy Tail, to form a team, he's the one who enters her apartment constantly, he's always searching her out - his interest in her is at a constant high so we never feel like we get "moments" that he's paying her extra attention. He has one setting, and it's "Lucy" cranked to the max. Lol.
I could also add some HYQ moments to the mix here, but they've been few and far inbetween, and also mostly played off as jokes, so I can't really consider them as moments when Natsu initiates his love. I guess his jealousy can be considered a sign? And when (spoilers from the manga) he runs around to protect her/save her from creepy-freaky-jail (the only one who made it freaky was him, with those wild fantasies lol). Maybe I need to jog my memory a bit, but so far there hasn't been any non-pervy nalu moments initiated by Natsu in the HYQ, aside from jealousy-chap. Sadly.
Hope this gave you the answer you were hoping for! Sorry it took so long, I started writing on it and realised it would be a bible so I put it in my drafts to fetch some pics to make it less wordy, and then I forgot about it, lol. But here it is!

do i like the key of the starry heavens arc? no, despite the fact that it was a lucy-centric plotline, i think the anime writers kinda botched it and i have Issues with the way jude and lucy's relationship in particular was portrayed. but do i love the imagery of lucy falling from the sky like a literal shooting star and natsu catching her? GOD-fucking-yes.

FIONNA AND CAKE SPOILERS: Thoughts on Marceline being "The Star"
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I rewatched The Stakes Miniseries after last week's Fionna and Cake episodes, and maybe to some of you who have thought about Adventure Time more than I have, this is old news, but they had always telegraphed Marceline being "The Star".
In the last episode of the miniseries, The Dark Cloud, when Marceline activates her full demon soul-sucking powers, she glows pink and becomes kind of like a starry nebula.
Tumblr media
The whole plot of the stakes miniseries is about Marceline coming to terms with the trauma in her past, growing up, and feeling more sure of herself. This is in fact all themes that align with the Upright tarot card The Star.
Tumblr media
[image ID: The Star/Meaning When the Star card appears, you are likely to find yourself feeling inspired. It brings renewed hope and faith and a sense that you are truly blessed by the universe at this time. The Star represents: New hopes and splendid revelations of the future, insight, inspiration, courage and enlightenment of the spiritual self. Body and mind and converging towards the light at the end of a dark time(s).]
The Star is number 17, following The Tower number 16. It's supposed to represent the light at the end of the tunnel, the glimmer of hope. It's positivity and aspirations after many trials and tribulations. This tarot card perfectly encapsulates the character arc of Main Universe Marceline.
Now what about the other universe? This brings me to what The Star means when it's drawn Reversed:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
[image ID: Hopelessness The Star Tarot Card Meaning. Key Meanings (Upright): Hope, inspiration, creativity, calm, contentment, renewal, serenity, spirituality, healing, positivity. Key Meanings (Reversed): Hopelessness, despair, focusing on the negative, lack of faith, lack of inspiration, lack of creativity, boredom, monotony.]
Tumblr media
In the universe where the vampires have taken over the post-mushroom wars Earth, they were so effective at killing humans, and all manner of living creatures that life on Earth is on the brink of collapse. The Vampire King has used the Ice Crown to cover the sky in perpetual clouds, which must have also sped up ecosystem collapse for life that doesn't have blood for the vampires to drink. The Princess Bubblegum of that world even spells it out that their world is pretty much nearing its end. In that sense, the Marceline of that world represents hopelessness and despair. However, not for herself, but for the three protagonists of Fionna and Cake.
Fionna is beginning to realize that no matter how much she tries to help, nothing is working out. Adventuring wasn't how she thought it was, and she just wants to go home.
Tumblr media
Simon is already deep in his pit of despair from the very beginning of the series, because he is depressed and sees no place for himself in the land of Ooo, and no way to contact Betty after she ascended to godhood. And Fionna is realizing that if Simon becomes Ice King again, he will have to give up his mind, and pretty much annihilate himself in order to give magic back to her world.
Cake doesn't seem to be in despair at first, but we learn by the end of the episode that Cake absolutely does not want to go back to being a normal cat. She would do anything to stay the way she is, but this is at odds with what Fionna is realizing that she wants.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And if all of that hopelessness isn't enough, after the vampire universe, the trio are teleported to an even worse universe where the Lich had already succeeded in wiping out all life! Not to mention when BMO tried to help them fix their universe-hopping remote, he also destroyed himself in the process ):
So yeah, the writers were very smart to insert both meanings of the Star (both upright and reversed) into the wider narrative of Adventure Time!!!

Got bored and decided to make a tier list of the canon arcs in Fairy Tail. Early Fairy Tail, my beloved.
The anime filler weren't included, but if you're curious; the Daphne arc is E, the Key of Starry Sky arc is C (would be higher is Jiggle Butt Gang didn't exist), Celestial Spirit arc is D.
Also, for some reason, this person crammed all of 100 Year Quest into a single arc. But since I personally don't really like any arc in it, I suppose it makes it easier for me.
You can find the one I used here.

Chapter 154 was exactly what I had been craving for. The story took a break from the action and slowed down to let us have a glimpse into the lives of our beloved guild and characters.
And we finally got to know what Erik has been upto all this time: Not only is he in Magnolia but planning to settle down with Kinana. All I wanted was updates on Kinabra and their development but Mashima gave us a happy meal with the news of their engagement.
Erik's first proper exposure to the guild was, keeping with the time honoured tradition of FT, wild. And who would have thought that the mighty Cobra would be scared away by none other than Warren lmao? Between Warren and Laxus planning to go all John Wick on him, my man has a tough road ahead of him. Still, I'm glad that he is around and, hopefully, will join the guild for good.
I also need more chapters like these following the lives of both Team Natsu and the guild(s) back home in Fiore before the action resumes. And it's high time there is some development on the romances as well. Only Gajevy and Kinabra seem to have some sense in that department. Actually, they have so much of it that they could impart some to their friends and still be left with plenty lol.
The cover was a cute throwback to the Key Of The Starry Sky arc and Erik's promise that he would return to Kinana on a shooting star.

✅ list one or two favorite lines you’ve written and explain why they’re your favorite “Lucius was suddenly so close—Scylla didn’t even register when he got up from the chair and made his way to the couch. She drew a sharp breath as the scent of his cologne hit her—black pepper, elemi, raitia, and vetiver wrapped in a haze of incense, now spiked with a spicy brandy note. Her gaze dropped to his hand extended toward her; his fingers hovered a breath away from her face.” – Harry Potter fanfic, pairing Lucius Malfoy x OFC.
“She walked forward without paying attention to the road. Sometimes she stumbled, catching her heel on the small stones scattered along the pavement. She smoked, exhaling bitter clouds of smoke into the air. Tilting her head back, she squinted and let her relaxed gaze slide over the starry sky. Right now, she felt so small. Recklessly insignificant. Unimportant. Like she could flare up like a matchstick and dissolve into nothing. At any moment. Taking one last drag, Hatsue flicked her cigarette away with a snap of her fingers. Her throat was dry. Her head buzzed. And she was desperate for a drink. Or warmth. Coffee. A good strong coffee with frothy milk would absolutely save the day.” – My novel-in-progress, Southern Birds.
LOL, not “a line or two,” but I’m rolling with it. These paragraphs nail the vibes and emotions I want in my work, so they’re gold to me.
🧮 what are you working on? describe it in 20 words or less
Harry Potter fanfic, Lucius Malfoy x OFC. My heroine is a dhampir, and after Voldemort’s rise to power (he wins in my AU), her blood is the key healing elixir he needs. The main focus is her romantic arc (she’s got a few side entanglements), but the plot’s all wrapped around that dynamic.
🎶 do you write with music? does the music you’re listening to influence your writing? Music’s a huge inspo for me while brainstorming, but during actual writing? Brown noise all the way—it’s an ADHD thing.
💕 whats your favorite part of your writing process? Descriptive bits that dive into the vibes of a character (smells, quirks, glances—you get it).
😠 whats your least favorite part of your writing process? The buildup to the juicy scenes I’m dying to write. Like, can we please just get to the chills-inducing moments already?!
🎀 how do you decide when something is done? I usually start with the ending in mind, so it’s all about connecting the dots to get there.
🌅 do you typically known the ending to something before you start writing it?
Most of the time, yeah. Getting to it, though? That’s the real grind. 🔚 have you ever completely changed the direction a piece was going? Oh, for sure. That’s why Southern Birds is still a WIP three years in.
🤔 why do you write fic? It’s what I’m best at. Honestly, it’s my whole world.
⛔️ whats something you try to avoid in your work? I used to have a lot of self-imposed rules, but now I’m all about cutting those ties. Creativity shouldn’t have boundaries.
📚 do you ever read similar works while writing, or do you intentionally not read them? Always studying the niche I’m writing in. Good stuff fuels my fire.
🦉 give yourself a piece of writing advice Stop holding back. What you create matters—even if it’s just for one reader.
😊 say something nice about your writing It’s vivid, raw, and unapologetic. Like an open wound or ripped lace panties.
😭 what’s something you’re currently struggling with? Imposter syndrome: “No one cares, I’m wasting my time.” Also, wrapping my head around the amount of content needed for my ideas.
🔥 what’s something that’s currently going really well?
World-building and character creation. I’m cranking them out like crazy!

okay bear with me for a second but why are the spirits all so one note ugh. Loke has his arc and then he’s just talking about how much he loves Lucy or women or whatever constantly (with tenrou being an exception, showing a relationship of his outside of his mage). Aquarius is just a bully to Lucy until tartaros where all of a sudden she has this emotional moment and now she’s back to being a bully 😭. Then key to the starry sky sounds so much like it’d be a celestial spirit arc (even if anime only) and ISN’T. Also Lucy force closing her spirits gates when they annoy her feels kinda…icky? No Lucy hate I love her just these are living beings and Mashima tries to drill that into us but literally goes back on his word for haha lolz funnies moments.
the spirits are done so dirty snd that is one of my biggest criticisms of Fairy Tail even now when I’m in a more accepting view of the anime/manga
