How the AU’s work

Each au has four version (book style in which it falls into silver eye’s continuity, game style in which it falls into game continuity, movie style in which it falls into movie continuity, and amalgam style in which it combines all three continuity’s into one)

In xanthophobia Cassidy is the villain (William afton die’s extremely soon in the AU and for once in his life never comes back)

So in my most of my AU’s the souls are able to grow old despit not being alive which explains any shipping you might see. Most of it isn’t my doing though

Elizabeth x Nick is only cannon in golden children

Unless its Evan x Cassidy or Mike x Charlie

TF2 is cannon in the golden children au (i mostly just wanted to make fnaf 2 Jeremy TF2 Jeremy)

The golden children au takes place in the late 80s to early 90s with flash forwards towards the pizzaplex era while the shattered souls au takes place in 1991 and the malefactor malfunction shifts the entire time line to start in 2000 GMTC takes place around 1999 to 2018 xanthophobia takes place in in the 2000s and 2010s

In shattered souls Springtrap is much nicer due to him losing his murdeous tendencies after getting spring locked

malefactor malfunction is a Ben 10 fnaf crossover with Cassidy having a version of the omnitrix called kaizotrix

I can't believe there is a "Cursed Cat Alastor Controversy" and that once again I had to have the evil lepreconartist who lords over the fandom making his gold off of Medrano's despair explain to me in order to understand what the fuck is going in on the fandom, yet again ... But I kind of hate you all so here's my hot take...

It's actual petty bullshit.

It's the equivalent of a fanartist calling out an AMV maker for "art theft" and demanding that a video they worked hard on be taken down because they used a piece of fanart for a character in an AMV tribute to the character that both the fanartist and the AMV maker (who is already an artist in their own right) already do not actually fucking own. Like, regardless if the AMV maker gives the fanartist credit. Instead of being honored by it, when they should know better that neither of them ever actually even own the shit to begin with, yet they still demand "credit" for fanwork.

I once saw a popular Asian artist in the svtfoe fandom demanding a boycott of the popular fan run merch store TheMysteryShack just as the beautiful fan made artbook Tales of Rebel Princess was about to launch exclusively through there because she alleged that the shop owner had stolen one of her friends fanart designs on a goddamn fucking Steven Universe tarot card pack of all things but I still really liked her Star fanart, so when I tried to respectfully explain to her that I wouldn't be boycotting the shop because of Tales of Rebel Princes launching and how I thought it was personally in very poor taste to not just contact the shop owner privately about the matter and instead making a big stink in public about boycotting his shop when she knew that one of her other artist friends that we knew she had also collaborated with in the past was just about to debut another big collaborative art tribute book dedicated to Daron and Star vs. there through this guys shop! And essentially it would be sad to see her knowingly taking business away from her other friend like that and demanding others in her following do the same and over something as small as a deck of Steven Universe cards, especially in understanding how little love svtfoe gets, since she was also a well known svtfoe fanartist ... All I got in response was "Well I'm happy for my friend but I'm Korean and you're just a Filthy American who couldn't possibly understand how disrespectful something like this is in my culture and blah blah blah if you instant on further harassing me about this I'll block you!"

And I was basically like "suit yourself being fake and having a stick up your butt honey I'm still getting my Star vs. artbook!"

And then she blocked me.

Good riddance. As if Miss Heinous would honestly ever head bang to Ruberiot...

But I guess what I'm trying to get here is that like...Oh, I'm sorry? You wanna make fanart for western cartoons? You gotta play by western rules then. Like it's late night here and I'm sorry if that sounds harsh. But it's true.

If Aurelio Voltaire honestly deserves to have a deal be cut in my opinion so he can finally officially own his share of the "Vampair" series after Daria Cohen stole his voice to make it (half dry humor, half serious here, to be quite frank about this) then coma0423 deserves to cut a deal so that Amir Talai can have a bit of financial comprehension and his percentage of whatever kind of (I'm guessing financial) ~"credit'~ that Coma is now demanding from other fanartists who make Cursed Cat Alastor fan merch since Talai , after all, did design the original concept sketch that would become Cursed Cat Alastor that Coma saw and then decided to just runaway with when they made the meme ...

Listen to me... Fanart belongs to everyone and no one by nature of it being made by fans and no one can truly own a "fan concept" expect for the true creator of the thing that it's based on. Unless that thing is already in the public domain. And if it is it becomes Schrodinger's Cheshire Cat.

Schrodinger's Cursed Cat Alastor belongs to everyone and no one, babe. He belongs to The Hazbin Hotel Fandom and The Hazbin Hotel. If he actually becomes canon in the show somehow, then he'll belong to Amir and Viv, actually, maybe Coma will get proper credit then, but the concept won't even really be theirs anymore, just as it even isn't really officially theirs now, even if they officially do get hired.

First you're telling me that I'm not allowed to fuck the radio demon ... This goes triple for anyone making fanart of someone else's work and that's a fact. Especially if it's only ever an extremely memed up version of an already canonically existing character that you were only so lucky went viral.

happy pride! this is my second summer without tits, third on testosterone. sometimes the enormity of the international, intergenerational, interconnected, intersecting systems of privilege, power, marginalization, and oppression that shape who i am feels overwhelming and incomprehensible. gender-affirming care saves lives, as in i was unable to do the work of figuring out who i want to be until i could exist in a body that felt like my own. gender-affirming care saves lives as in i could not imagine a way to continue forward in the body i was in.

i grew up in a world that fundamentally failed queer kids like me, where the main comfort organizations could offer was the idea that "it gets better". i've spent most of my life dissociated, a messy combination of gender and neurodiversity and cPTSD, trying to make it to the "better". and now i'm here! in adulthood, learning to feel my feelings, trying to imagine a way forward. and it's still hard and it still sucks and sometimes i want to throw up hands up say this is it!? "it gets better" and this is all there is?

i believe all people should have access to the care that i've been lucky enough to access. i recognize it's an enormous privilege that i'm able to exist comfortably as myself now, but it really shouldn't be. it's so frustrating how obvious it feels that things don't need to be this way. but im also realizing that guilt and shame and self-flagellation won't actually contribute to the systemic change necessary to extend this privilege to more people.

i am committed to building towards a world where self-determination isn't a privilege at all but the baseline. and im still learning how to do that work in a way that's sustainable and realistic.

ATLA Modern AU: Avatar Edition

This is going to be a slightly different post. I don't think people ever consider the past Avatars in an AU set in a modern setting. Where do you think they would come from, if they had IRL nationalities?

For sake of simplicity, let's say the AU takes place in the United States, since most ATLA Modern AU fics I've read take place there, mostly in the San Francisco Bay Area. We could also use NYC as the setting, since Republic City is roughly based on 1920's Manhattan. I think this task would be much easier if we consider the real-life influences for each of the four nations. I'll be using this post as a reference for these influences.

For example, the Air Nomads are based off of Tibetan Buddhists with some Nepalese and Bhutanese influences, so it would be pretty obvious to make Aang Tibetan in a Modern AU. The same would also go for Yangchen, although I would personally prefer Bhutanese or Sikkimese Yangchen because the Western Air Temple (I'm not talking about the episode) is inspired by Bhutanese cliffside temples. Another option would be making both Aang and Yangchen part of a Tibetan diaspora living in India. Kyoshi, being half-Air Nomad, would also be of Tibetan ancestry.

The Fire Nation is inspired by a combination of Chinese and Japanese cultures, while Ember Island being inspired by Southeast Asian, mostly Thai and Cambodian culture. In a Modern AU, I can see Roku being Thai, while Wan and Szeto would most likely be Chinese, Szeto is from Hong Kong/Macau. I also have a particular desire for Korean Wan, for no other reason than the fact that his VA, Steven Yeun, is Korean. I also wouldn't mind Wan being part of a Chinese diaspora from Malaysia or Singapore.

The Earth Kingdom, being the largest and most diverse of the four nations, is inspired by many Chinese dynasties, various ethnic minority groups in China, and even other Asian cultures altogether. However, we'll be paying attention to one specific cultural influence in Kyoshi's appearance: Heian/Edo Japan. She wears samurai gear and kabuki makeup. How in the name of the Moon Spirit am I not supposed to make Kyoshi Japanese (half-Japanese, anyway)? Kyoshi Island, formerly known as Yokoya, is literally ATLA's equivalent to Japan in the real world. There are even Ainu influences in Kyoshi Island, what with the clothing of the people in Suki's village.

The last nation is the Water Tribes, and the last two Avatars left are Kuruk and Korra. Now, the Water Tribes actually have a more diverse range of cultural influences than what we might expect. According to both @atlaculture and @kkachi95, the SWT is based on Inuit, Yupik and other First Nation peoples, with some Polynesian influences as well. The NWT, in addition to these influences, is also influenced by Mongolian and Siberian peoples. Since Kuruk is from the NWT, in a Modern AU, he would probably be Siberian, mostly Yakut, but I wouldn't mind Mongolian Kuruk either. For Korra, since she is half-NWT and half-SWT, I think she would be mixed like Kyoshi, except Korra would probably be half-Inuit, half-Yupik. Jumin Han General Headcannons

*Does not wear cologne bc it irritates Elizabeth and he would never do anything to harm her on purpose.

*This goes for any strong scent so he usually just smells “fresh” and like “soap”.

*That also goes for candles, cleaning supplies, and air fresheners. He makes sure his cleaning service knows before hand.

*ALL of his staff, the ones who work closest to him, have to be Elizabeth approved.

*Animals are very good at recognizing scents. When Jumin was with someone not approved, she avoided him completely and he contemplated his existence.

*Has the best eating and drinking habits of the cast. Fully hydrated all the time and the healthiest prepped meals by his nutritionist and dietitian.

*He can cook and is very skilled but generally doesn’t bc his time is important. Usually too busy but on the occasion he likes to cook breakfast.

*Also a fan of sweets. Not too often will he consume sweets but when at work and he’s having a particular bad day he will have a butterscotch or some hard candy.

*He will also have a sweet splurge when he makes his breakfast. He like his pancakes/waffles with lots of fruit and whipped cream.

*He doesn’t have many hobbies but he reads, usually nonfiction books. He is also a fan of poetry. And will read from multiple different languages.

*Speaking of he is multi-lingual. He can speak Korean, Japanese, Mandarin, Spanish, French, English, Arabic and more. It was because he had to learn when he was younger but he grew to have an interest in other languages and cultures.

*He doesn’t watch much tv but keeps it on for background noise, mostly for Elizabeth. So it’s usually on a channel that plays popular movies or the baby stimulation channels.

*Despite being rich, he care about the environment so he turns off lights, heat, air, and so on that aren’t needed even if he is home.

*However he does keep, not necessarily night lights, but like small-low light lamps.

*He has a record collection. Mostly classical but also some soundtracks of shows or movies that he hasn’t exactly seen. He really enjoys the Steven Universe soundtrack but had never seen it along with the soundtrack for a Legend of Zelda game.

*Similar to Jaehee he’s not a big fan of most holidays because it’s just more work. Not that he hates having more work but he just doesn’t get the holiday spirit.

*However he like Halloween. It’s a simple holiday he enjoys. There’s not really a way for him to give out candy to kids so he just dresses up Elizabeth and watches horror movies.

*He’s a fan of psychological and slasher films but has a distaste for body horror films.

*He doesn’t go all out but he enjoys changing his low-lights to warmer lights shaped like jack-o-lanterns.

*Second to Jaehee he knows lgbtq+ because it could tank sales but also a “subculture” he learns to be genuinely interested in.

A Life of Dedicated Service: Remembering Brigadier General Charles McGee

Brig. Gen. Charles E. McGee, the eldest of the surviving Tuskegee Airmen, passed away on January 16, 2022. His life of dedicated service included flying combat aircraft in three major wars—a feat that was unthinkable before his career began, when the US military banned African Americans from combat flying roles.

Born in Chicago in 1919, McGee spent his formative years as an Eagle Scout and worked for the Civilian Conservation Corps before studying engineering at the University of Illinois, where he also participated in the ROTC program. On his 22nd birthday, Japanese aircraft bombed Pearl Harbor, and the next day American officially entered World War II. After hearing of the US Army Air Corps’ new program to allow African Americans to train as combat pilots, McGee enlisted. Before leaving for training, McGee married his partner, Frances Nelson. Two days after their ceremony, McGee received his orders and became an aviation cadet.

McGee had experienced discrimination where he grew up in the northern United States, but noted that in Alabama, where Tuskegee Air Field was located, the racism was much more blatant. “Back in those days, the city of Tuskegee was off limits, and the sheriff wasn’t a friend. You didn’t buy gas or walk down the street in certain areas,” McGee said. But flying lifted his spirits. Even his early training rides sometimes became spiritual experiences. “Flying up to 45,000 feet to watch the sun set and stars come out,” he said. “It makes you realize we human beings are just one small aspect in a mighty grand universe.”

After earning his wings and 2nd Lieutenant’s commission in June 1943, McGee joined the 302nd Fighter Squadron, part of the racially segregated 332nd Fighter Group, one of the units of the Tuskegee Airmen during World War II. Stationed in Italy, McGee flew P-39 Airacobras, P-47 Thunderbolts, and P-51 Mustangs on attack missions and bomber escorts. On August 24, 1944, McGee was escorting a group of B-24 Liberator bombers over Czechoslovakia while flying his P-51, named Kitten, partially after his nickname for his wife and partially as a reference to his crew chief, who “kept that engine purring like a kitten.” A group of German fighters pounced on the bombers, and McGee engaged, chasing a Fw 190 into a dive before shooting it down.

McGee ended his combat time in World War II after 136 missions, and then became an instructor for the 477th Bombardment Group (Medium), a group of African Americans training to become B-25 Mitchell crews.

Despite his decorated service, McGee faced harsh discrimination upon returning home. “In Europe, I was Charles McGee,” he said. “When you came down the gangplank in America, it’s, ‘Oh, you’re black.’ It was blacks this way, whites that way.” Even when serving in the United States, McGee was forced to leave his family behind because African Americans were not allowed to buy or rent homes in the areas around the bases to which he was assigned.

When the Korean War began in 1950, McGee had recently become the base operations officer at Clark Field in the Philippines. He quickly joined the 67th Fighter Bomber Squadron and flew his favorite aircraft, the P-51 (now redesignated F-51) Mustang on 100 combat missions. After Korea, McGee held a number of command positions around the US Air Force, including commanding the 44th Fighter Bomber Squadron, flying F-80 Shooting Stars.

By 1967, with the Vietnam War increasing in intensity, the Air Force assigned McGee to command the 16th Tactical Reconnaissance Squadron at Tan Son Nhut Air Base in South Vietnam. Flying RF-4 Phantom II jet fighters on dangerous photo reconnaissance missions, McGee completed 172 combat missions and earned his first Legion of Merit.

After returning to several other leadership positions in the Air Force, McGee retired from service as a Colonel in 1973. With a total of 409 combat missions across three wars, he had earned the Legion of Merit twice, earned three Distinguished Flying Crosses, and was awarded a Bronze Star, among many other awards. After retirement, he went back to college to earn a degree and continued to serve in a variety of leadership positions, including the Boy Scouts, while helping to create and promote the Tuskegee Airmen Inc. He also made time to visit us at the National Air and Space Museum, signing books, speaking at family day programs, and participating in lectures. His willingness to share his story provided our visitors with a first-hand account of history, and many walked away moved by the change to hear from and speak to McGee.

In 2020, McGee received a promotion to Brigadier General. Then-Chief of Staff of the Air Force, General David Goldfein, noted the importance of recognizing McGee’s legacy: “Charles McGee is a genuine American hero whose courage in combat helped save a nation, and whose legacy is felt to this day across the entire US Air Force.”

Looking back, McGee and his fellow Tuskegee Airmen were a powerful force for change, helping to increase the effectiveness of the US military through a more equitable use of personnel—but McGee did not pursue his career out of a sense of advocacy. “It was more about wanting to do our best and accomplish the mission we were assigned,” he said. “We just wanted to be part of what the country was all about at the time. We could’ve said, ‘They don’t like us. They don’t want us’ and not served our country. We chose to serve, and it allowed our Air Force to see what we could accomplish, and ... bring about an important change in the country.”

White washing and race bending are two separate things. Idk how y’all feel about them, but here’s my thought process on the two

White washing- redesigning a poc fictional character to be white (not albino) because you think it would “look better”. Any time a poc character is redesigned to be white, it’s white washing. White washing is seen as racist due to the fact that doing so blatantly gets rid of poc representation in media. White people have dominated media for a good portion of history, while poc (for the longest time) were rarely depicted in media. When they were depicted, poc characters were mostly depicted as stereotypes. In the modern day, stereotypes are rarely seen in media has drastically increased sense then. However, white people still make up most characters in media (it also depends on what country your in too because most Korean media depicts people who are Korean, for example).

Race bending- redesigning a fictional character (often white, but can rarely be poc) as someone of a different race or ethnic heritage for the purpose of representation. Not necessarily racist, but can be depending on very specific contexts. Representation is not one of those contexts. If a character’s race or ethnicity is integral to the media they are a part of, and the story that is told (example being Black Panther), then it is generally a good idea to not race bend a character. However! Since the movie Snow White has no integral elements that revolve around race or ethnicity, then race bending the character Snow White is fine.

Race bending and white washing does not apply to characters who are not shown in their source to have a specific race (non-humans and characters who’s race is based on viewer/reader interpretation). These types of characters can be depicted as any race and no interpretation is “more canon” than any other. However, it does apply to characters who are shown to be race coded in some way (my go to example would be how Garnet in Steven Universe is heavily black coded). Race bending and white washing DOES apply to race-coded characters.

Also! Race bending and white washing does not apply to systems with fictives who appear to be a different race or ethnicity in head space than they are in canon. Alter race doesn’t exist, as the body is the only thing that dictates race for a system. A system cannot race bend or white wash a fictive, as how an alter appears in head space is not controllable. Fictives are also not fully representative of their source, and comparing them to such is gross.

Also, I am a dumb American and I have no other context for racism in fiction besides what I see in my country lol. So if anyone wants to add to this with different perspectives, then please do! also, feel free to correct any dumb shit I may have said about these topics!

NAM CHOHYUN (b. 1998) — Hyemi and Steven’s first born son. Currently employed as Jaesun’s manager, though he has no qualifications to do so. Colloquially known as Namcho.

NAM JUNGIL (b. 2000) — Hyemi and Steven’s second son. An engineer at his father’s company. Still third in line to lead Song Studios, despite having no interest in the Korean film industry.

SONG MIYEON (b. 1973) — Seungjoong’s middle daughter. An actress of middling fame.

JEON MANSIK (b. 1961) — A former actor formerly represented by Song Studios and Miyeon’s ex-husband. Fell from grace after his involvement in an illegal underground gambling ring was discovered in the late 90s.

JEON YOOJUN (b. 1996) — Miyeon and Mansik’s only child. The eldest of the youngest Song generation, none of whom bear the last name Song. Preparing to be the next director of Song Studios.

SONG MIAE (b. 1976) — Seungjoong’s youngest daughter. Rose to fame in the 1991 historical drama Queen of Silla, where she starred opposite her now-husband, Hwang Ihyeon.

HWANG IHYEON (b. 1972) — An actor represented by Song Studios. Best known for marrying Miae.

HWANG JAESUN (b. 2002) — Miae and Ihyeon’s son. An idol, against his parents’ wishes.

HWANG SARA (b. 2003) — Miae and Ihyeon’s daughter. The only girl in her generation. A YouTuber (also against her parents’ wishes) with a Yonsei University education.

Met with immense domestic success, partly because it featured Miae and Ihyeon as the leads for the first time in almost twenty years and partly because Seungjoong briefly unretired to direct it.

MORNING GLORY (2022, dir. Song Hyemi and Jeon Yoojun) — A near-future sci-fi thriller depicting the cutthroat competition for education, jobs, and life in modern Korea. The directorial debut of Yoojun, the eldest of Seungjoong’s grandchildren. Produced with Netflix, helped launch Song Studios onto the international stage.
