Starting this blog off with some shots of "lazy homemade shrimp tempura". For a while, there weren't any sushi places in my town and now it's a "special occasion" expense, so I set about trying to figure out how to make my favorite sushi roll at home.
First up, how to season the rice : Recipe here.
I have a small rice cooker that makes 1-2 servings, and while I experimented with just adding the seasoning so it cooks with the rice, that ended up in some burnt rice at the bottom. Tastes better added after anyway.
Next up, I don't often have cucumbers but in an attempt to fit some vegetables in there I found out that there are "avocado cups" - which are freezeable! Pop them straight into the freezer and defrost one at a time - I find one cup can do up to three rolls, but since I usually eat one at a time, I throw it in a ziploc for the next day (it does brown fast, but there'll be some green left if used within 24hrs). Not to self : defrosting a cup in a cold water bath takes about an hour.
For the shrimp I honestly did not feel like learning to make it myself, but while looking in the freezer section found they do make premade shrimp tempura! I personally found, and I don't know if its a quirk of my oven, but baking a minute or two longer than package says works really well (tastes better).
The last thing was a sushi kit and getting nori (the seaweed wrapper). Spicy mayo and the Unagi (Eel) sauce I managed to find at a store about an hour away (only place around that has a large selection of non-white food items) and they last a few months.
Is it perfect? Mm maybe not, but it's tasty enough that I'll make the effort, as reduced as it is, and might order something else when out and about.
FYI Links are simply to show what I use for visual help, not affiliated or paid or whatnot.

Lazy Man's Garlic Bread*:
Bread, any kind (Italian bread for bonus points)
Butter or margarine (I prefer margarine)
Garlic Powder
Salt (I use coarse salt)
ITALIAN SEASONING don't skip this one, trust me.
Toast bread in toaster, wait.
Spread butter/margarine on toast.
Lay everything flat and sprinkle spices liberally. In order of most to least: Garlic - Italian Seasoning - Salt.
Notes under the read more:
🍞 For bread, I like Old Tyme's 647 Italian or potato bread because its low carb and low calorie. I know "healthy" bread normally tastes bad but these are excellent, they taste like normal sliced bread.
🍞 On the toast, I'd recommend just 2-3 minutes or so, but it varies by toaster and preference. You want crunchy edges and a soft-ish middle
🧈 If your buttered doesn't melt, microwave for 5-10 seconds. Not too long as it ruins the crunch.
🧂With the spices, if you use table salt you may need more than with coarse. Salt is really up to your preference as well though.
🧂 The Italian seasoning is what really makes it taste like garlic bread.
🧂 Sometimes I'll add chilli powder, red pepper flakes, or just black pepper if I'm feeling spicy 🔥 but this does change the flavor of it to be less like garlic bread imo
🛍️ If you want to make it even lazier, they sell premade garlic butter. I just prefer to use my own ingredients as it helps me control my calories and other nutrients better.
*it's "lazy" because there is no oven or timers, slicing, extra grocery store trips or anything else. Most of this stuff is usually already around. Obviously you could just buy premade garlic bread but in this "recipe" the caloric intake is better controlled.

i saw one design where they gave her what this person described as "a hapsburg jaw, because incest lol" and the way i physically recoiled
I am keeping a personal folder of fucked up shit people have been saying about Moonpaw (with the names of posters removed). Some of the things I've seen and screenshotted include;
A person hoping that Moonpaw "dies of inbreeding complications to make the Erins face the consequences of their actions." As if she's a real person the writing team has no control over?? The ink on the page is going to die of incest???
Open calls and wishes for a "mass extinction event" in ThunderClan because "we need to kill them off" for being too genetically unhealthy
Delight and revelry in the fact that Moonpaw's chimerism probably comes from inbreeding, often paired with conflating chimerism with mosaicism
LOTS of jokes about "ugly, misshapen, deformed" Moonpaw, some saying she would be mentally impaired, even comparing her to unethically bred animals because her parents are "practically siblings."
So forgive me for having a hunch that these people don't actually give a shit about the victims of incestuous abuse. I've got a feeling they just want an acceptable target to make ableist comments about. Something tells me they might not think eugenics isn't all too bad if it's done against populations they think are "actually" undesirable.
These jokes and comments are not fucking funny and the fact that some of these are the very top of the Moonpaw tag makes me sick. I NEVER want to hear these ghouls complain about the tangled family tree ever again if your reason for it being bad isn't because of intense social control or authorial carelessness, but because it might produce ugly and/or disabled people. Wither and rot.

Let’s help each other meal plan, cause I can’t be bothered this week.
Please reblog this with a link/description of the recipe that you consider “very adult” with nutrition and whatnots, but is deceptively super duper easy cause you’re just as lazy as I am.

"Come, sit down, I'm making-"
2am is a peculiar time in Shadow Company: some are fast asleep to face the coming day, some are staring at their ceiling, and some are still out and about. Of course, some members would hold roles that involve active duties past midnight.
However, some are avoiding the Sandman for different purposes entirely. Depending on the Shadow, some spend their time outside, watching the sky and, perhaps, indulging in a vice - whether that be smoking with the stars, or sharing a drink with past ghosts.
Others remain inside, though their bodies still as active as ever.
Communal kitchen, 2am. Or, he assumed it was communal, anyways.
Half of the ingredients he practically smuggled in himself, the other half he found unopened at the back of the cupboards. Unlike prior occasions, Moth's basically eyeballing it all the best he can with sleepy eyes.
Ingredients he's smuggled in include: glutinous rice flour (it looks so genuinely suspicious underneath his bed - wrapped in plastic, double bagged and it still left some remnants behind), coconut milk (oddly enough they had coconut cream, but not the milk itself) and cheese (cheddar - the fridge had an opened pack of American cheese, and processed cheeseburger slices). They're all spread out neatly and within arm's range.
Everything else - the eggs, butter, sugar and evaporated milk - was located in a couple minutes. To his surprise, he found some frozen banana leaf jammed deep inside the freezer. In case it belonged to anyone else, he took as little as he thought he needed. He'll ask about ownership later.
Sure, the normal recipe would call for more ingredients, but that would involve more smuggling, and Moth isn't in a position to ask Graves about the rules regarding what can and can't be kept in the pantry- turn the music on and start anyways.
'Strangers in the night exchanging glances
Wondering in the night, what were the chances...'
He lets the speaker take over the singing, silence being filled with sound: an old friend got him hooked on the tradition; before him it was himself and the quiet.
The recipe, how he remembered it anyways, was simple to follow. Having preheated the oven, he spent some time cutting up the banana leaf a little to fit the dimensions of the tin he found. Lining it with care, humming along to the music, and generally enjoying his night. This. This is his vice, in a sense.
Rhythmic cracking and whisking of eggs, he barely needs to measure how much flour he needs at this rate. Stabbing open the cans with a knife because he recalls how the can opener was recently broken. No questions about it. Sugar, butter- it all gets mixed in one glass bowl he rinsed in the sink.
It's fine. He'll clean up after himself once he's done. He stands, in his own bubble, whisking away. The batter needs to be rid of lumps, but not too overdone that it turns out wrong.
It's admittedly quite... domestic in the kitchen, a rare mercy when it comes to the culinary sphere in Shadow Company. He pays no attention to the busted up microwave, after all. He could stay there all night and bake if he wanted to-
"Ah! Kinam- er- good evening-" The music was too loud and he wasn't fully alert when the kitchen door swung open. Now some Shadow is standing there wondering what Sergeant Moth must be up to past midnight. Cradling a bowl in one arm and whisking away like a housewife, sunglasses pushed up on his head and mask covering up the microwave. Lord, he has an apron on too.
...Before they could ask, however, Moth's already quick to talk, practically beckoning them, "Come, sit down, I'm making bibingka." His startled appearance only melts away when they take a couple steps inside the kitchen; not a single appliance combusted once during his time inside so far.
Again, it's mostly quiet aside from the music. He's already finished pouring the batter into the tray, readying himself to put it inside the oven for however long it needs to bake for. They're just sat, watching. Almost childlike. There's a curiosity, at the very least.
"...Ading," Wrong- who cares, it's late, "If... if you want to help whilst you're here, then you could help me grate the cheese? Don't have to, obviously."
Still, he's talking them through the steps, winding up some egg timer. Preheat, line, mix, bake, top, broil. And make sure music is on, because: "Music gives the food some soul, no? Good atmosphere gives it a good mood to be prepared with." Understandably, Moth isn't exactly himself - it's late, he's less concerned with appearance or suitable behaviours. He's more casual than anything.
Looking over as he washed up, making sure they don't slice a finger on the box grater, "We'll put the cheese on top once the sides look done, then we'll broil it... You're doing great, by the way." Eyeing up the first aid kit on the wall anyways, just in case. He'll do some of the cheese preparation right before he pulls it out the oven and grate cheese. "...'m very grateful to have you here." That was bad.
A brief flash of heat when the oven door opens, and he slides the tray out a little. Cheese gets sprinkled on the surface of the bibingka, almost in excess. But good co-operation means extra reward, after all. And once it's all back in the oven?
Moth's handing the Shadow the egg timer, twisted up to a couple more minutes, with a proud look on his face. "I'll make sure the food's all out and cooling once this goes off, yeah? If I'm there then you're taking some, and if I'm absent, then you can take as much or as little as you want, alright?...As long as Commander Graves doesn't find out. Go do anything you need to, Ading." Praise. He's happy for having some company that isn't set and speaker-bound.
"...I'll see you around. Have a good night." Waves them off, takea a breather and... appreciates existing a little more.

Hungry? Sad? Want safe cheap food but have no ideas?
brown butter in pan, toss in cooked pasta (any but penne or shells best), any white cheese, sage, honey, cinnamon, and lemon juice. Optional pecans or walnuts. pepper to taste. Fast tasty pasta with minimal need for veggies/effort intensive sauce/meat.
my go-to when my sense of smell gets the best of me. smells a lot like an apple pie and has nice light protein without all of the hassle of smelling how unfresh your meats are (pepperoni currently smells like actual animal shit to me today, i can smell how stressed people are (normal for me; just worse), everything with sugar smells acrid, etc. great day for cozy.). Also butternut squash is so good.

ok actually. lemme give u a good weeknight stir fry recipe that comes together in literally 30 minutes.
buy some cheap flank steak, its usually less than $10 per half pound and thats really all u need. slice the flank steak real thin across the grain of the muscle fibers. this does matter, it will make the meat more tender. you also wanna put it all in a bowl and put just a little bit of baking soda, maybe a teaspoon per half pound. allegedly this causes a reaction with the meat that gives it that velvety chinese takeout quality. if youre cool you also add some garlic powder, black pepper, soy sauce and sesame oil and let it all marinate for at least 15 minutes.
while the meat is marinating take this time to prep your vegetables and aromatics (garlic + ginger+ shallot), you want everything ready to go because stir frys happen fast. i like to cut a carrot into little quarter-inch cubes, along with a red pepper, serrano pepper, and broccoli. this is entirely dealers choice of vegetables.
next mix together about a tablespoon of oyster sauce, 2 tbsp of soy sauce, a tbsp of cooking mirin (everyone recommends shaoxing wine but this is hard to find ime) and 1/2 tbsp of rice wine vinegar along with about 2 teaspoons of corn starch in a bit of water. i also like to add cayenne or red pepper flakes bc i like it hot but whatever u like. this is your stir fry sauce.
if you are blessed with a gas stove you can use a wok, but otherwise any large pan works. you just want to make sure you can get it ripping hot (be careful with nonstick pans bc the teflon can vaporize and that is Not Good For You). blitz the beef with oil for about 5 minutes until its not pink anymore and set aside. add aromatics, cook until fragrant (literally like 30 seconds be careful) then add all ur veggies along with some sesame oil to get em a lil brown. cook for 5 more minutes until at least the broccoli is tender, then add the beef back in.
once everyone is being friendly, add ur stir fry sauce specifically ON THE EDGE of the pan so it can evaporate a little bit before getting mixed in. you can also make a lil opening in ur ingredience in the middle of the pan and pour it in there. this is where u stir and also fry, for about 2 more minutes. you remembered to make rice, right? if not then just chop some scallions real small and scatter them over the whole deal.
proceed to eat directly out of the pan while watching a bad tv show. if u play it right this should cost less than $20. remember its always moral to put all ur produce in the same bag and ring it up as shallots at the self-checkout 💛
