If Other Stormlight Characters Served as the King's Wit
As requested by anon. :)
"The King's Wit" is there to insult people in the king's stead. In this role, Hoid basically gets to stand at the entrance to feasts and make fun of people. It's a good gig for him. But what if other characters had this job?
1. The Stormfather
Stormfather (rumbling with displeasure): You have broken an oath today. Stormfather: You promised your son that you would play "Shattered Plains" with him this afternoon, but you did not. Stormfather: Though you feast for today, my storm winds shall one day scatter your dishonored bones. Elhokar (visibly sweating): Ha ha my new Wit sure is, ah, intense!
2. Kaladin
Kaladin: Ew. Another Lighteyes... Kaladin: Sniff, sniff! Smells like the exploitation of the powerless in here! Kaladin: I can name a dozen men better than you and guess what--they're ALL darkeyed. Kaladin: Nice outfit--did it come free with your ancestral privilege?  Elhokar (muttering to himself): I will not put him in jail again, I will not put him in jail again, I will not...
3. Shallan
Shallan: [sketching] Hapless Lighteyed guest: Is that...me? Shallan: It is! [shows Ideal Self portrait--it's the same person, only their sadness and distrust is gone and they shine with an earnest and honest light, looking out toward their future] Hapless Lighteyed Guest (visibly tearing up): I...It's beautiful. Shallan: Please, go ahead & take it! Elhokar: Shallan-Wit, why is everyone at my feast introspective and crying? Shallan: I'm really good at art.
4. Adolin
Adolin: Wow! You are so brave to put those colors together, and in a style from two years ago ago! Adolin: You are almost pulling it off.
5. Dalinar
Dalinar: Hello. I could not help but overhear your heated argument, my friends. Dalinar: It reminds me of a tale from the Way of Kings, which I will now quote from memory... Dalinar: ... Dalinar: Aaaaand, they fled. Dalinar: That's the third time that's happened this evening.
6. Ialai
Ialai: [hands hapless lighteyed guest a folded-up sheet of paper] Hapless Lighteyed Guest: W-Where did you get this information about me? And my husband? And my...former boyfriend's sister's cousin? Ialai: [merely smiles] Hapless Lighteyed Guest: W-What do you want? Please! I'll do anything! Ialai: Why...nothing at all. Yet. Please enjoy the feast.
7. Lift
Lift: Mmmm....4. Lift: A solid 6! Lift: Perhaps a 5, but ONLY because of those pants. Lift: Wow! An 8! Wyndle: P-Please mistress, I don't think the job of the King's Wit is to rank the butts of all attendees! Lift: They need to know.
8. Jasnah
Hapless Lighteyed Guest: Ugh, I don't think it's right for the king to employ a heretic as his Wit! Jasnah: It's strange--one might think that your faith in the Almighty would inspire you to strive to be a good man, yet in reality your mother weeps each and every night to have produced a son who loves drinking and gambling more than he loves his children, his wife, or indeed the Almighty. Jasnah: Should you wish to inspire faith in others, perhaps you should try to demonstrate even the smallest reason why yours has produced an iota of good for anyone in this world aside from yourself. Elhokar (across the room, watching): I...am afraid.
9. Lopen
Lopen: Hey, I know you! I got a cousin in your army! Lopen: He always laughs 'bout how weird it is that your officers make the men pay for their own boots 'n' stuff 'cause it's an army not a charity, right? But then your officer son gets an allowance which is funny 'cause that kinda seems like the 'charity' thing that an army isn't! Lopen: We Herdazians tend to use a word to mean a thing, yeah? But you Alethi sure like to make a word mean whatever it is you want!
10. Szeth & Nightblood
Nightblood: Evil. Evil. Evil. Definitely evil. Big evil! Little evil, but still evil. Szeth: You've identified every guest so far as evil, sword-nimi. Nightbood: Yeah, I'm so good at detecting evil! So when does the slaying start? Szeth: I told you. I don't murder entire parties anymore. That is my past, but it does not have to be my future. Nightblood: But you're the King's Wit! You got wit-tle down the evil, right? Szeth: That is not what that means, sword-nimi. Nightblood: ... Szeth: ... Nightblood: People sure do speed up when they have to walk past us, huh? Szeth: I am pretty sure that means we're doing a good job.

Pocket Mirror ~ GoldenerTraum
Tumblr media
Mirror, Mirror on the wall
Pocket Mirror is a horrific game in which we follow a young girl with amnesia who is lost in a gloomy, absurd world and tries to escape through a series of puzzles. While the aesthetics and atmosphere of the universe won me over completely, I have more reservations about the writing and the emotions it seeks to convey.
❤ Let's start with the game's biggest strength: the atmosphere is insane (literally). The pixel art is highly detailed, the lighting effects are magnificent, the scenery can go from cute and neat to chaotic and sinister, and the light animations are dynamic and often bloodcurdling effective. I also loved the contrast between the horrific aspect of the scenes and the cute chara-design of the characters, a bit like Puella Magica for those in the know. There are also quite a few visual ideas that play on this contrast of tone to make you feel extremely uncomfortable, without resorting to easy jump scares or excess hemoglobin. ❤ The sound atmosphere is not to be outdone either. The music is memorable, adding a touch of mystery and disquiet to the exploration of the rooms. But the game also relies on scary sound elements (footsteps, evil laughter etc…) as well as moments of oppressive silence, which worked extremely well on me x) ❤ The gameplay is fairly varied overall, with exploration, puzzles, chases (I hated every second of it), mini-games, etc. I never felt redundant during my game.
+/- The game's puzzles take two forms: on the one hand, there's the rpg aspect, with objects to find to interact with elements of the setting; on the other, there are text-based riddles in the style of Sphynx. The difficulty can alternate between easy and a little more intermediate, which provides a bit of a challenge, but I found some of the titles very confusing and their solutions sometimes convoluted. +/- The story is captivating from the start. We face all these horrific events without understanding anything, totally perplexed like our MC who has lost her memory. But this confusion lasts right up to the end, in fact, because the scenario remains far too ambiguous, and even though the game hints at some answers here and there, it ends with a feeling of incompleteness. I did understand the underlying plot, but the way the game skims over the truth left me rather indifferent in the end. +/- The characters are excellent in their creepiness, but we don't get attached to them at all. And yet the game seems to want us to feel something, given certain scenes where the heroine sincerely tries to create a bond with them....but it just doesn't work. First of all, the main girl is just too bland and interacts with everyone in the same way (all sweet and naive) which, in my opinion, doesn't create any real chemistry with the other girls. But on top of that, these ones have very short "arcs" where we're more often dealing with their demonic character than their more human side, and as a result, I find myself rather indifferent to their fate. +/- There's a good amount of replayability given the various endings, but there's no quick skip for the dialogue and some of the cut scenes…and some of the endings are hard to reach without reading a guide, which is a shame.
✖ The game has a lot of game-overs, which isn't a bad thing in itself, but some of them occur after actions based on chance (for example, you take the wrong direction in a corridor and you die, or you make the wrong choice in a dialogue that didn't indicate any fatal fate). It wouldn't have bothered me so much if the save points weren't so far away from these events, as it often means having to take again a long path or even a cut scene that you can't always get past. It got very tiresome at times. ✖ I've got nothing against dubbing in onomatopoeia, but the little laughs and giggles from the damsels are far too frequent and almost annoying. ✖ I find the object interface a bit messy and not quickly accessible.
I was totally drawn into the world of this game, and it succeeds perfectly in its aim of making its audience both nervous and enchanted by this hellish wonderland. But it left me on the side of the road when it came to its story and its characters, who were a little too elusive for my taste.

So, now that I have fully digested every story element about Hobo Bison, I can safely say, I got mixed feelings still. But it lands more towards me viewing Bison in a positive light somewhat.
First, the negatives. Idk why the SF writers have a thing for making Juri Bison’s punching bag. Like him ripping out her eye twice wasn’t enough? He couldn’t have gone after someone else? Like, maybe Ryu, the guy delivered the final blow with a singular Hadoken? (Still so lame). Probably one of the few times I’m actually on the side of character fans/stans. In this case, I can understand why Juri mains were upset and annoyed. Once is an accident, twice is a coincidence, three times is a pattern.
Speaking of which, I hate how people were saying that Bison was Rule 34ing Juri during his Arcade ending. Like… dude, get the porn out of your mind, that is NOT what’s happening here. I’m not referring to the ones that are joking about it, I’m talking about the ones that sound genuine and not a joke.
Secondly, he’s back to wanting to dominate the world when he regains his memories. Alright, then, here we go again I guess, lol. Get ready to “die” for a fifth time Bison.
Third, I saw the unused concept art, and this is just a nitpick, but I think they shouldn’t have played it safe, but I get why they did it, because otherwise Bison would be unrecognizable. But even still, some of the unused designs could’ve been nice. I mean, he has a lot of backup bodies in case he dies for real.
Fourth, as usual, World Tour has to make finding Bison more tedious than Akuma’s master mission of using fighting styles I don’t even use or care about.
With all that out of the way, the positives. M. Bison’s moveset is fun to use. Especially the psycho power ticking time bombs.
Next, his design. Specifically, his hobo default outfit. His scars, his tattered cloak, and the long hair is a look he rocks. Don’t care about the classic, because it looks like a dude cosplaying him and it looks the most out of place in a game that has semi-realism. It’s a small nitpick, so moving on.
I love his dialogue with the characters too, it shows that even though he has amnesia, he is still evil.
His motives I can actually get behind this time around, because he seeks power more than anything else (well, it is one of his likes). It makes his whole world domination thing make a tiny bit more sense. It’s still cliched though, do not get me wrong. Both his and Junko Enoshima’s (Danganronpa) motivations to rule the world is a villain cliche that is not everyone’s cup of tea. But both are iconic and are good villains, but have cliches that could bring their interesting factors down.
I also like how it’s heavily implied that the Bison we see in SF6 could be just a vessel that hasn’t fully gone through the process with his memories.
The build up to Bison was also good. I would say more about the foreshadowing in World Tour and in most of the Arcade mode stories, but I already made a post about it before and this post would be longer than it already is, so I’m leaving it at that.
And that’s about it. I may have mixed feelings about Bison’s place in the story, but I do enjoy him being a part of the roster, since he is an iconic and long established video game character decades ago. I still think DLC wise so far, the Season 1 DLC characters are all equally the best. I mean, A.K.I is literally the number one most voted popular character from the latest poll. Plus the people who hated Ed now love him or tolerate him. And of course, Akuma is Akuma, he’s really cool too. Rashid was also a good start. Bison is just okay, and I think Capcom started with him first to rip the bandaid off just in case there was backlash.

Lights Up Analysis
The Lights Up Labyrinth. A song of self-identity, self-reflection, and self-acceptance — coincidentally, all themes explored throughout the album cohesively... by the way. It's a piece that simultaneously chronicles and illustrates the journey to self-actualization and self-acceptance, the beautiful labyrinth of the human experience. And, within this labyrinth, there's a lot of twists and turns, for it never comes easy, it comes with our own unique hurdles, accompanied by experiences one must lie in before moving forward toward the light.
The lyrics really lend themselves to his visual, the Lights Up labyrinth, with a compilation of questions and statements side-by-side — and the music backing aids to create this teasing of resolution, but we never quite get there. Harry, as the writer, and us, as the listeners, are suspended in this limbo, because the journey to all self-resolutions is never truly complete. Rather, it's something we're always seeking our way through — through the labyrinth.
Here's a deep dive into Harry Styles' Lights Up, from a poet.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Symbolism of Light
A quick bit this is, I promise. But it's important to talk about the symbolism of light before jumping into the details, for it plays a big part in unraveling the true poetic weight of the song, even as it veers on the shorter side. In Lights Up, Harry utilizes the most common juxtaposition of light and dark but refuses to present either as the ultimate answer. Once more, we are in limbo in a labyrinth. Usually, light is perceived as the ultimate good while dark is perceived as the ultimate evil. Stark black and white contrast. But I don't believe what's going on in this song is that simple.
To me, in Lights Up, as well as in the song "Fine Line" but I digress, he doesn't go to these commonplace extremes you'd expect, sending a reminder that things aren't always so black and white, and aren't always as easily separated into light and dark. The light heralded in the song isn't some all-healing force like so often depicted in literature and art. Rather, even stepping into the light as he describes, not all is healed or solved — yet, he continues to embrace that in-between (fine line).
All in all, it's the strive to live in the light, really, even though one knows that it might not magically fix everything, and it might not magically wash away the pain one's been carrying. But, it invites reflection, and in reflection comes acceptance and evolution, and ain't that just a beautiful thing?

Lyric Pull Apart
[VERSE 1] What do you mean I'm sorry by the way Never coming back down Can't you see? I could, but wouldn't stay Wouldn't put it like that What do you mean I'm sorry by the way Never coming around It'd be so sweet if things just stayed the same
What do you mean / I'm sorry by the way: I see this interpreted two different ways and it depends on this: Do you see these two lyrics as one statement or two separate entities? First, I'll speak about them linked together, which can be interpreted as the speaker asking the question, and I quote, "What do you mean 'I'm sorry by the way'?" — like someone's making a flimsy apology too late after the fact. This gives insight into what instigated the song, and as the first line we hear, could be as if the writer was writing his way to the realizations he'll make. Did that make sense?
Second, let's split them apart now, and let them stand as their own separate stand-alones. Now, it's the speaker delivering the flimsy apology. No matter the configuration, the half-ass apology holds its place in the narrative. Saying sorry without really saying sorry. A matter-of-factly type of statement, without any real apologetics behind it. "What do you mean?", he says, as if someone is talking and he's not listening. (Maybe now, maybe not anymore?)
Never coming back down / Can't you see? / I could, but wouldn't stay: There's an admittance of knowledge that he could've remained in this comfortable position, but he chose not to. He could, but wouldn't, in a bigger pursuit within the labyrinth of self. Throughout the song, I believe the speaker communicates directly to us — his bystanders, his observers, his audience — who've been watching him work his way up to this point. The prologue is to be found in 2017's eponymous debut album.
Wouldn't put it like that / What do you mean?: In companionship with the other lines preceding, this feels like a bit of clarification, maybe even an underlying worry his words are coming out wrong or getting misconstrued — which highlights that the speaker is dealing with a sensitive thing regarding himself. The labyrinth of the self, for your specifics. There's no other subject, really. Then, the What do you mean? takes on a meaning more akin to miscommunication, which, as we have seen throughout his work, is a recurring theme.
It'd be so sweet if things just stayed the same: When one treks on the trail of self-identity, moments of struggle and comfort will follow. This falls in love with I could, but wouldn't stay, its sister line, acknowledging the comfort of remaining in the status quo, but he's accepted that he needs to move forward. But, wouldn't it be sweet if he didn't have to trek through this labyrinth of seeking himself? Seeking identity he might've thought he had established, but it was only an illusion. This option to return to comfort is still there in the back of his mind as he navigates, but we take steps forward toward the metaphorical "light".
[CHORUS] All the lights couldn't put out the dark Runnin' through my heart Lights Up and they know who you are Know who you are Do you know who you are?
All the lights couldn't put out the dark / Runnin' through my heart: Remember how we talked about the song moving away from the typical black and white symbolism of light and dark? Here's where we see it painted out. There's more of a focus on the dark here, and the darkness being secrecy — more detailed, one's own personal secrecy. The parts of oneself that are hidden due to your own apprehensions, or apprehensions that have been taught. There's an inner turmoil that's a constant battle to work with, and sometimes, even the opposite of dark can't magically remove that.
Again, within this common juxtaposition of light and dark, it's clear that there's not one definitive right answer and no definitive solution to everything. Acknowledging this, it moves him even more forward into a journey of self-actualization.
Lights Up and they know who you are: This line brings an outside presence into this labyrinth of self-discovery. The judgment from others. Light lends an association to visibility, and visibility leads to vulnerability. In a moment, we as listeners wonder: could we be the quote-en-quote "they" he's referring to?
With the FINE LINE album, and I think with every album he releases, it's like he's constantly reintroducing himself to us by letting his art do the speaking maybe he hasn't found yet. And, with this being the comeback single chosen to kick off a new era, this is him saying the following: "You think you know everything about me, but I still have more to show you" — because he still has more to discover, in this labyrinth.
Do you know who you are?: This is question that he is asking himself, but also, in turn, asking the bystanders (us) — the outside presence mentioned before. THIS IS THE CENTRAL QUESTION and the one that was teased the most! So we have to give it our proper attention, don't we? If you look at it in companionship with line before it, it reminds me of that question of who you are when nobody else is around. He has acknowledged the people perceiving him, and maybe even who he is when he is in their sight, but who is he to himself? Who's the person he has to live with? And, he's turning around and inviting the listeners to take this journey with him, making us question things as well. Tackling the Lights Up labyrinth together, hand-in-hand.
[BRIDGE] Shine, step into the light Shine, so bright sometimes Shine, I'm not ever going back Shine, step into the light Shine, so bright sometimes Shine, I'm not ever going back Shine, step into the light Shine, so bright sometimes Shine, I'm not ever (Oh)
You've gotta love a good bridge in a song. This creates a visual of him stepping into the light, and it's a beautiful metaphor and scene. I see this movement into the light as both an outside force and an inner one. There's the light that's been chased in this labyrinth of a song, the light of self-actualization. But, there's also the light of self-acceptance, shining out from inside his chest. A light that outshines the darkness (the secrecy, the hardships) held in his heart for so long, often longer than we could ever know. In this self-acceptance and self-discovery, there will be tough moments sometimes, one can lose sight sometimes — So bright sometimes. But, it will be worth it in the grand scheme of it all. He won't be going backward. He'll keep moving forward with all this knowledge he's pocketed through all this experience.
[VERSE 2] What do you mean I'm sorry by the way Never going back down It'd be sweet if things just stayed the same
This is a repetition of the first verse, but much more condensed. Another round of the "apology", but it does feel like it has more weight to it now. As if he has reached a moment without second-guessing regarding where he's going after the bridge's journey. Then, Never going back now comes out confident and strong. Leaning back in the visual of him navigating a maze, here's where he's standing at the last few twists and turns. He's closer, he can see himself on the other side. But, with another reiteration of It'd be sweet if things just stayed the same, it's a reminder that with these journeys of change, there will always be a bit of what if in the back of the band. Wondering what if one had stayed stagnant, even when growing more sure of where one needs to be heading.
[CHORUS] All the lights couldn't put out the dark Runnin' through my heart Lights Up and they know who you are Know who you are Do you know who you are?
The chorus repeats, and the song ends poignantly on that central question: Do you know who you are? A central question to not only this song, but also functions as an introductory question regarding the FINE LINE album as a complete piece of art. A theme of discovery carries throughout the whole sophomore album in all the different stages that are laced with grieving, too. The lights are now his own, and we are stepping into the light. Lead by Harry himself.

Overdue thoughts on Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes
I’ve been meaning to talk about my reaction to the latest Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes trailer, and now I’m finally gonna do it. This isn’t some super in depth theory crafting. Much like my Kingdom Hearts IV post this is just some early reflections.
Tumblr media
I’ll start with what I’ve noticed in terms of gameplay because this’ll be the shorter part. Also, I’ll just quickly point out that most of my Musou knowledge comes from the two Hyrule Warriors games. So if I sound ignorant about specifics of Dynasty Warriors gameplay, it’s because I am. Just a heads up.
One thing I’ve been consistently impressed by in Koei Tecmo’s latest Musou spin-offs is how committed they are to trying to make them feel like part of the series that spawned them. Persona 5 Strikers and Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity both perfectly match the graphical style of the games they’re based off. They also both pull a ton of aspects from the gameplay of their source material and blend them with Warriors gameplay. Sure enough, we have already seen Combat Arts, Gambits, Adjutants and the class system in these trailers. Combat Arts are particularly neat, since OP special moves are a Warriors tradition, but letting you choose from multiple ones is a neat bit of customisation (or maybe it’s already been done idk). Teaming up with allies on the battle field for group attacks is also cool as is more control over AI allies, but I hope this doesn’t replace actually swapping characters which I think is a great mechanic for these games both to keep variety, and bolster their light strategy elements. Three Houses’ training is also back, and hopefully will be used to cut down on the typical Musou grind rather than increase it.
Tumblr media
Ok, that’s all I can observe from the gameplay as far as I can make out and it all looks great. Here’s hoping there’s not any egregious performance issues.
Anyway, onto the story. So far I’m getting major vibes of Age of Calamity. This very much appears to be an alternate timeline, much of which revolves around our new protagonist, Shez. The idea seems to be that Shez’s absence was the main reason Three Houses played out the way it did, and now that they’re here, things may go differently.
Tumblr media
Incidentally I’m glad Shez isn’t a silent protagonist. Byleth had more characterisation than your average silent protag, but they really couldn’t carry a story without the three lords (see Silver Snow for proof). I’ve already praised the new redesigns, and yes they are all chef’s kiss. But I wanna talk chronology. Anime ages are hazy at the best of times, but from what I see, there is definitely a timeskip here and they do look older, but the changes are way less pronounced than they were in Three Houses. The war has not been going on for five whole years it seems.
Tumblr media
The game also seems to be going out of its way to tap into some unexplored ideas from the original. For instance, we see a pink haired warrior in the trailer who could very possibly be Holst, Hilda’s previously unseen brother, as well as a new character who resembles Claude (another member of the Almryan nobility?). Even Monica seems to be here, though the jury’s still out on whether this the real or Monica or simply a disguised Kronya.
Tumblr media
Shez also has a companion figure much like Sothis named Arval, but this guy’s whole colour scheme resembles the Agarthans. I know that, as such, some people are expecting a twist villain but I actually hope not. The Agarthans were probably the weakest part of Three Houses’ story as they hindered the game’s gray morality by being obvious villains who masterminded many of Fódlan’s worst aspects. Giving them a sympathetic god figure similar to Sothis, or at least having one Agarthan who isn’t cartoonishly evil could provide them depth, much like the Nabateans.
And of course, we gotta talk about Byleth.
Tumblr media
I think posing Byleth as an antagonist is a great reversal. It takes their silent, borderline Gary-Stu/Mary-Sue nature and turns it into something threatening by turning it against us. Nice to see them living up to the Ashen Demon name. And supposedly, they nearly killed Shez at some point in the past and the story is hyping up a rematch of sorts. However, I highly doubt they are a true villain. We see that their name and gender is still decided by the player, which implies they’re playable. So I’m expecting a dual perspective story simillar to Gaiden and its remake Shadows of Valentia. This would mean switching between Byleth and Shez at story intervals much like Alm and Celica, leading up to their second confrontation. Then again, this game apparently has three routes, so I don’t know how this could logistically work in that context. Interestingly, Sothis’ narration in the first trailer makes some comment about revenge and given how, normally, only Byleth can hear her, that implies to me that maybe Jeralt’s death plays out differently in this timeline. Could Shez themselves be involved? We’ll see I guess...
Tumblr media
Lastly, there’s the question of whether this game will have any kind of ‘everyone lives’ golden ending. On the one hand, Three Houses is supposed to be a tragedy. It has no completely happy ending and I think it’s a better game for it. That being said, the Warriors crossovers have often been kind of fanfic-y. They’re bombastic fan-pleasing spectacles that run on hype, and Age of Calamity specifically set itself apart as an AU so it could run wild without contradicting Breath of the Wild. I see no reason Three Hopes couldn’t do the same. Though the fact that it still has multiple routes means that unless there’s some Fates/Sonic Adventure 2 ‘last story’, it probably won’t have a fully happy ending. So maybe bring tissues to be safe.
There’s still a lot we don’t know, but I’m still really excited. I loved Age of Calamity (though I suspect some people would shoot me for saying that because something, something ‘false advertising’) and this looks to bring a lot of the same buckwild AU energy to one of my favourite Switch titles. Plus I’m just looking forward to seeing these characters again, AND using them to curbstomp entire armies. I just hope the playable roster is up to par, considering how much I love Three Houses cast.
But yeah, long story short, I’m incredibly excited.

The Report Card – Fantasy High: The Seven Ep 1
Meet the Maidens
It is back to school baby, both for D20 and, funnily enough, myself as well (something I hope will give me more time to get the recaps out in a timely manner fingers crossed).
As I’m sure you all know if you’re reading this, this season of D20 takes place in the world of Fantasy High but with a focus on Aguefort’s OTHER most badass adventuring party who we’ve so far only seen on the sidelines, the Seven Maidens! You’ll recall, they’re made up of the seven girls who were captured by Penelope and co. to fulfill the prophecy that would let Kalvaxus rule the world freshman year. And, in fact, we start with a flashback to freshman year so let’s just jump right in.
We find our seven soon-to-be heroines chained in the Red Waste in front of what we know and they will shortly learn in Kalvaxus’ lair--a crucial part of the prophecy that was the subject of season 1. The structure of this episode is sort of like 2 rounds of introductions--first here with the maidens meeting each other for the first time and then again at home with their families a la the first episode of Freshman Year so I’ll be glossing over certain things that we’ll get to later in their second intros.
Anyway, the first two to wake up are Danielle (aka Yelle: half-elf, druid) and Zelda (satyr, barbarian as we know). Zelda is her usual, adorably nervous self in contrast to Yelle who is no less sweet but in a super chill, granola girl, fuck the system kind of way. We actually learn that Penelope had her on board with the plan for a hot second when she thought it was just “overthrow the government” but didn’t know about the “install a just as bad if not worse evil dragon overlord” part.
Ostentatia (dwarf, cleric) wakes up next and is, as Izzy--her player--describes her “Jersey Trash.”, all blinged up with jewelry that she secretly made herself and didn’t buy. She wakes up pissed and ready to bodyslam Aelwyn which are both extremely valid emotions as much as I love Aelwyn. By the way, all of the girls recognize each other as girls who go to their school but none of them are really friends though they very quickly start throwing the label around because that’s what you do when you wake up chained with 6 other people in front of a dragon’s lair in a place called the Red Waste.
Katja (half-orc, fighter) wakes up and immediately cares about nothing more than the status of her beloved horse, Cinnamon and declares that if Cinnamon dies, she’ll die. This is a fantasy world so Ostentatia and Danielle are a little concerned that might literally be true via a soul bond or something but it’s more that Katja just really, really loves that horse. Danielle tries to cast a spell to locate the horse but can’t get the somatic components quite right with her hands manacled.
They all get into a discussion about the fact that everyone for a fact knows they’re all virgins now (you know, the real issue here) and what exactly counts as “virginity” for the purposes of this prophecy (like, does second or third base count or only traditional home runs using the baseball analogy) when Penny wakes up and is, just so excited to be here gang! Penny (halfling, rogue), who is one of the girls who has been kidnapped the longest, is adorably and honestly a bit concerningly exuberant to be surrounded by all these new friends, totally disregarding  the fact that they are clearly in some deep shit. Zelda mentions that Riz, her old babysitee, knows they’re kidnapped and is trying to help and she lights up.
Next up is Sam (water genasi, sorc/bard) who immediately starts thrashing to get out of her chains and, when she can’t get free, is devastated by the fact that her ex betrayed her (!?) Finally Antiope (human fighter/ranger) wakes up all out of sorts having started her growth spurt while in the crystal and also having needed to pee right before she went in which becomes a problem all over herself (which Sam helpfully cantrips away).
With all of them awake, the stones they’re chained to light up and some of Kalvaxus’ minions (the ones who tied them up) show up to do minion speechifying. Yelle does a horrifying Animorph style morph into a waterbear (a tardigrade if you wanna get all Bio 101) to get out of her bonds but then Sam who has a serious one track mind re: getting out of here (Correct) and has exactly zero patience for these guys casts Tidal Wave and just knocks them off the cliff. Yelle frees Ostentatia who frees everyone else with Animate Object on their chains. Hands free, Yelle also casts Locate Animal and tells a very pleased Katja that Cinnamon is doing a full Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron down the highway searching for her.
The girls decide to explore the cave which has recently had most of its treasure moved (it’s currently in the gym for the Prompocolypse fight which is currently happening). Penny and Sam (who are in insanely different emotional places) find all these broken mirrors which Sam takes as a cue that they need to GTFO (which is what she was already doing) and Penny thinks would make a great material for friendship bracelet making which she starts doing as Sam physically pulls her away. Sam hears someone doing post-cry sniffles and is like, “Not today Satan,” still trying to leave. However, Penny sees that there is one mirror left and, inside, sees a ethereal looking human with flowing, preternatural, black hair who senses their presence and asks if Penny is someone named Anima. She asks for their names though she declines to give hers (hmm, feels very fae) and the girls give the fake names of Kelly and Cecelia which the figure says she will guard and not misuse. The figure says she is looking for her sisters (who she says when Penny asks are at Aguefort which...hmmmmm) and, all of a sudden, Sam and Penny are having a bad feeling about those mirror shards.
They ask her a question about the mirror and she gets really aggro when it’s referred to as “her” mirror as she would very much like to be out of it. The woman really wants to get out and says she can give them lots of power if they help. Sam pulls out her compact Mirror of the Past (magic item that does basically what you’d expect--shows you info from something’s past though in a cryptic way usually) to try and get some info on this thing and just barely avoids losing her mind in the process because this thing is ancient. Like eons old. She also learns the woman’s name (or maybe title): The Ending of Things (will be calling her Ending for now).
Yikes!
Right around now the other girls come in and can see at the angle they’re looking at her at the woman in the mirror is Not Really A Person and Antiope points at her and reflexively casts a ranger sense spell to try and clock its weaknesses and stuff but Ending grabs the spell energy like a lasso and tries to drag her into the mirror. She does however find out that she’s stacked with hella resistances (total immunity to necrotic damage and non-maj weapons, resistance to most elemental damage, and more).
Sam briefly considers using Lightning Lure to pull Antiope back before deciding on a much less ouchy Counterspell. Unfortunately, it’s not strong enough and now she’s being pulled in by her spell energy too. Yelle casts Erupting Earth which has some pros and cons.
Pros: Antiope and Sam are saved! Yay!
Cons: The mirror breaks and whatever was in it is fully freed. Not yay!
Shortly after (but not before Penny gives everyone their new friendship bracelets), someone calls into the cave looking for them--it’s Fig’s mom, Sandra-Lynn (with new art)! She’s happy and impressed that everyone is OK (also, Katja and Sam both have little lines that foreshadow their ~parental issues~ for the season--Katja being very moved by the simple act of Sandra-Lynn showing up for them and Sam saying that in her experience moms can be very evil).
As they all leave the cave, they all do checks and get some info:
Ostentatia: The mirror was kinda like a palimpsest (the crystals they were trapped in) and whatever this thing is is ancient and powerful.
Yelle: Gets the above info and the fact that when the thing left it wasn’t quite a bad vibe, just the vibe that something big and important is at play.
Penny: On an Arcana check she knows that what Danielle did 100% saved Antiope and Sam’s lives from whatever and wherever was on the either side of the mirror but the contact marked them in some way.
Katja: With History she sees some Primordial writing which is the writing of elementals (one of the things Ending has resistances to which might be relevant; also Sam reads Primordial but doesn’t get to read what it says)
Antiope: She knows that she and Sam are connected to Ending now somehow but it’s a two way connection which means they can also use it to their advantage.
Ostentatia casts Mending on the mirror shards which I think was to reconstruct the mirror but what it actually does is someone link their friendship bracelets. Cute!
And, with that, we cut to the present a year and a half later (which is Jr or Sr year for everyone).
We hop from kid to kid as they get ready to head in to school and get glimpses into their homes lives! Let’s do a quick rundown for each girl:
Antiope Jones
We see that Antiope is the youngest of five in what is essentially a military family full of basically every kind of fighter (she says she basically lives in a “Crossfit box”). There’s an 8 year gap between her and her sister Corsica who is the second youngest so her parents are kind of already living like empty nesters. When she comes downstairs she is promptly handed a protein smoothie and told two pieces of info: (1) from Corsica she learns that she overheard at school --where she teaches--that Aguefort needs to talk to her for some reason but she won’t say why which annoys the crap out of Antiope and (2) her parents lined up an internship for her at the Ministry of Adventure. She and her mom verbally spar a bit about them being all up in her life and how stressed she is and how she likes what she has going now with the Seven but her mom wins ofc because she’s a Mom and also a master tactician with a deft hand for loving mom guilt. On the way to school her bros (who include a gunslinger and an eldritch knight cause they run the whole gamut of fighter classes) Facetime her like, “Yikes Ant, heard about what happened with Mom, this is why you don’t fight her lmao.”
Sam Nightingale
This is a heavy one so strap in.
We check in with Sam who isn’t at her own family’s home but at Penelope’s family home which is off the bat eyebrow raising. It’s an upper middle class house and, on the way down, she has to pass Penelope’s bedroom which is conspicuously empty. Downstairs she’s greeted by Penelope’s human mom Rebecca who she learns is moving out soon because her elf husband is both cheating on her while away in Falinel and starting the divorce process. Sam clearly sees Penelope’s mom as a surrogate mom (for reasons we’ll learn in a second) and goes full ride or die assuring her that her ass is better than the ass of the woman he’s cheating with and offering to help burn his stuff even though drowning is more her specialty (she’s so cool). She also is a little stricken at the thought of Rebecca leaving her in the house alone but Rebecca says she can come with if she wants, she just didn’t want to disrupt her school life.
She also tells Rebecca that her bio-mom called recently which immediately sets Sam off. Through the convo we learn a couple of things:
Sam used to be an actor it seems.
And it seems like she was kicked out of the house after she transitioned or something similar which is why she lives with the Everpetals.
Now that it’s more “fashionable” to to be trans (her mom’s words, not mine) she wants Sam to talk to her so they can get her back in the game.
Sam is having none of that and tells Rebecca to just delete her mom’s number. Then they have a cathartic session of burning her cheating husband’s shit before Sam leaves in Sebastian--her sentient, seafoam blue, self-driving car with a very hot male voice which I am extremely jealous of. She picks up Zelda on the way to school and they commiserate a little and have a heart to heart about adults and change and how much Zelda wants to body slam Sam’s mom.
Penny Luckstone
Penny’s house is a whirlwind of activity and her harried parents get her and her 19 young siblings ready for school (no wonder she’s such a good babysitter). We see where Penny gets her type-A ness from as her mom and dad both have this cheerful but overworked energy of “EVERYTHING IS FINE” like that Good Place sign. Her mom spares a second to tell her that she recently got a letter for The Society of Shadows which is like a super secret rogue college (which her parents assume is legit even though they haven’t heard of it cause they’re Mumple people and also, if you've heard of a rogue school, how good could it really be?) Penny is excited except that it would mean she’d have to move and leave her party. Her mom is like “hey it’s a full ride and there are 20 of you guys so just take that into consideration but it’s ultimately your decision” before she dashes away to get to work because it is always Go Go Go with the Luckstones. She texts Sam for a ride and Sam swings by to grab her. This is not plot relevant but she has a booster seat in the back of Sebastian with her name carved into it and it’s important to me that you know that.
Katja Cleaver
Next up is Katja who lives in a Richie Rich style mansion and comes from very old money as she is descended from one of the first adventurers in Solace. She is in the barn with Cinnamon and the bugbear farrier they have employed (her name is Gertrude and a farrier is someone who does horseshoes). She eats the same breakfast as Cinnamon (hot dry oats and berries baybee) wo she loves so so dearly. Cinnamon is a magical horse--basically like a Find Steed spell that’s on all the time. She’s modeled the horse in her fave book series--the Babysitter’s Horse of course. Lockwood, the staff’s hobgoblin butler, is also there and they get a fantasy Zoom call from Katja’s dad who is in the middle of the insane 20th level adventurer stuff which he says might make him miss her graduation. She is extremely disappointed but just barely hides it from her dad (who seems to really care despite his not being around). She can’t hide it from the staff or Cinnamon however and Cinnamon offers to give her a ride to school via the scenic route.
Note: We also learn two sad facts about Katja from the conversation with her dad.
Her mother is Disney Princess dead* and
She wears one half of a friendship necklace and it seems like she’s waiting for someone to give the other half to. It’s implied earlier that the way Penelope got her was by promising to be her best friend. Sad!
*Edit: Well, she’s gone and we’ll leave it at that until next recap.
Ostentatia Wallace
Ostentatia wakes up and goes downstairs to have a very high energy in both directions interaction with her very fantasy-Italian mom and grandma. Her grandma is concerned her beard isn’t coming in--not knowing she shaves it on purpose which her mom is like, “Listen it’s fine but don’t tell grandma it’ll kill her.” She clocks very quickly that her dad isn’t there and his mithril working tools are gone. Her mom tries to play it off but she knows she’s being lied to and her mom relents. Her dad is at a meeting with the other workers of the shut down mithril factory and negotiations have ceased. It looks like he’s gonna be long term out of work. That explains where her dad is but not why the tools are missing. She decides to go do some investigating on her own and ambushes her dad in his car where, with the inaugural nat 20 of the season, she realizes he pawned his tools to get her 5 revivify diamonds. She's upset by this and he’s upset that she’s, in his eyes, questioning his ability to take care of his family. She’s like, alright, you did a thing for me, I’ll do a thing for you and she casts Animate Object to make his stuff steal itself back in a sequence that involves an animated crowbar using another crowbar which is just wild.
Danielle Barkstock
I’m gonna be real, Danielle’s life is exactly how you assume it is based on Who She Is As A Person so this one will be real short. Eco-friendly off the grid geodesic yurt. One super chill peace and love elf sorc mom and one rough and tough human ranger mom. She also knows and helps the Cubbies with their anarchist machinations because yeah, duh. She gets some messages from school on her crystal--one being a message from the principal saying that she and the rest of her party have first period off to meet with him and the other being a newsletter from the school showing, among other things, a photo of the Druid class doing a project but she’s not in it for some reason. She texts one of the other druids to see if she can figure out why she wasn’t invited but fully gets left on read. Brutal. Of course, she hasn’t messaged that person in 6-8 months so maybe that’s why.
Anyway, with that, all seven of our maidens make it to school and are all exuberant to see each other in a very teen girl way before getting to the principal’s office and learning that their party will be broken up at the year!
Bad!
Superlatives
I wanted to do something a little different for these recaps than the Bad Kid ones so instead of Honor Roll/Detention we are doing Superlatives and the inaugural one goes to...
Sam: Most Like To Survive a Horror Movie
Man she woke up chained in a ritual magic circle and she was Ready To Go Immediately. You will not catch this girl doing horror movie victim BS like exploring the spooky house or giving the creepy obvious ghost the time of day. She is hyper-competent and her goal is making it out alive and dragging her friends with her. Love her.
Random Thoughts
The season immediately starts with a bang or I should say a bing with Izzy trying to say “bling bang” and accidentally saying, “bling bing” and immediately getting roasted by everyone. I love the authentic girl group vibes (which include everyone clowning on her then immediately hyping up Zelda to the max after being way more awkward).
Handshake meme with Danielle and Moonshine from Naddpod. Also, Cinnamon and Horse from Centaurworld.
I love that Rekha and Erika just straight up were like, “Our characters are Asian”. Like obviously, make your characters Asian coded in your fantasy world--all my D&D characters are black like me--but it’s funny that they completely disregarded the, “There’s no Asia in this world so I guess they’re this world’s equivalent to--” Nah just, “I’m a half-elf and I’m Asian.” You love to see it.
I absolutely LOVE the choices the cast made to flesh out their characters based on the little info Brennan had about them, none moreso than rich horse girl Katja. Rekha is a genius.
“I only want one thing and he’s working” KATJAAAAAAA
Man if I was in that flashback I would have been wilding out so much with my flashback plot armor.
I appreciate that the first thing that Aabria has Antiope do is extremely uncool. I love it when players aren’t concerned about just being cool and on point all the time. Sometimes (read: often) that’s the less interesting choice.
But on the exact opposite side, she’s a ranger and an arcane archer which I think is extremely cool. Lmao also I didn’t mention in the recap but she HATES dragons now which, understandable. I’m guessing they're her favored enemy.
I can’t wait to see another group of kids interact w/ madman Aguefort.
Also, as a known Aelwyn-stan, I am very excited for the possibility of the Seven interacting with her cause as much as I love her they are under no obligation to acknowledge her redemption arc and I would love to see them throw hands.
I love the Greek myth naming scheme of Antiope’s extremely cool family as with her on the spot nickname “L-Cab” short for long caboose since she’s the youngest by a mile.
Also this is out of character not in character but Sephie is an extremely cool nickname for Persephone.
I wonder why Brennan didn’t let Sam read the Primordial in the cave. He just glossed right past her saying that she speaks it and she didn’t push it. Would it have solved his entire plot in the span of a flashback or was he just keeping things moving?
Sidenote, if I was married to an elf man and worried about aging like Rebecca, I would simply become a druid (or a monk or up my wizard levels so I could learn True Polymorph or Wish or something).
I wonder what the deal with Ending is. She seemed relatively sincere in the mirror but that doesn’t mean anything. She could be sincere and also Very Bad News.
There is an offhand comment by Brennan about how the dwarf forge god gives spells but doesn’t talk to his followers which I think means that Ostentatia is gonna be getting a direct god call soon enough.
Also she mentions that her dad is doing some criminal activity on the side which seems like a Problem for later. Honestly all of the kids have some pretty rich parent drama happening which should be interesting to see explored.
No nat 1s this ep and 1 nat 20 as I mention from Ostentatia.

I know that Rook’s birthday has passed, but I saw a post today asking why Rook speaks French and I did look into this in an Rook Analaysis essay that I wrote for his birthday but didn’t post it here. So that post kinda made me want to post it to explain or hopefully look more into his character.
Rook Hunt is a mysterious and attractive character. Despite his unusual habits, he’s a true gentleman but is often seen as having strange characteristics. Here I will attempt to look into Rook’s character design to celebrate his birthday!!
Rook so far in the game is the only character we see speaking a language from our world, French. Some have found this confusing or unnecessary but actually, Rook speaking French makes perfect sense. Rook comes from Afterglow Savannah, a land based on the movie, the Lion King just like it’s NRC dorm counterpart. The Lion King is said to take place in Africa, specifically Kenya. Inspiration on the landscapes in the movie was from the animators visiting Kenya (Bake, 2019). French is the official language of 11 countries in Africa and the secondary language in 10, making it the 5th most spoken language in the world (Chutel, 2018). Kenya is one of the countries with french as its main language. Since rook comes from Afterglow Savannah, it’s natural that he would have qualities matching the area just like Ruggie and Leona who also come from the same place. But unlike them, Rook resides in the Pomefiore dorm, therefore he holds qualities for both of these. Therefore, Rook does not come from France or represent France, he is based on Africa and most likely comes from the twst version of it which would be Afterglow Savannah.
Although Rook is not French, many white Africans in Africa, especially South Africa originated from France, Germany and the Netherlands in 1652 (jyu.fi). It's common for some twst characters to be a mix of cultures and themes. Rook is one example of this, he’s a blend of Afterglow Savannah and Pomefiore as he comes from Afterglow and is based on the hunter from Snow White. Snow White is said to be based in Germany, specifically Germany during the Holy Roman Empire (esri). Germany is one of the three main countries previously mentioned, that majority of white Africans came from, which suits Rook’s appearance. Rook’s hats also resemble fashion from this time as well as matching his Snow White counterpart. As seen below:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Rook’s hair also appeals to both the hunter from Snow White and the matching time period. These hat styles were worn by those of higher class and by Rook wearing it, reflecting his position as deputy dorm leader of Pomefiore.
The 14th century was a time of vibrant poetry explosion fitting Rook’s personality. An example of a famous poet from this time is Dante, famously known for writing “The Divine Comedy” (Interesting Literature). He chose to write in Italian instead of Latin which was common during these times. French and Italian are both known as “romance” languages that both derived from Latin, which was the language of the Holy Roman Empire during this time (Language TSAR). When it comes to Rook giving out nicknames, these too fit the time period as it was common for people to be named after their place or qualities which is what Rook is seen as doing. An example is Riddle who he calls “Roi de Roses” which means “King of Roses” which fits the style of names of those of the high class (Benicoeur and Gwynek, 2003).
Bows were very common and practical in armies from the 12th to 16th centuries despite barely being recorded in history (Towens, 2019). This reflects perfectly onto Rook due to how little we know about him and the little trace he leaves behind which pairs well with his stealthy personality as a hunter but also shows his side as a “soldier” or a “guard” to Vil, his beliefs of beauty and possible other things we aren’t aware about. The main role of professional archers were for defense but were also used as mercenaries during crusades. Rook fits both of these as he plays the role of Vil’s defense and the protector of beauty wanting to cherish it. He can also be seen as a double edged sword as even though he stands by Vil, many have speculated that he may at some point betray Vil or help Neige doing what he believes to be most advantageous. Archery symbolises “aligning with the target” (Girvin, 2013) which means to give support towards something. Rook is seen as taking more supportive roles throughout the game by helping other students like Epel as seen in Leona’s lab coat story, helping him make a potion for his class (Twisted Wonderland Wiki). It can also mean to become the heart of a community, be truthful, in their times of need to be the voice of their minds to help solve their problems. Rook being honest can also be reflected in his arrows as they symbolise the sharp and accurate truths they contain, this can be seen in Vil’s lab coast story as he blatantly calls Vil “fat” with the intention of helping to increase his beauty, which despite his protests, Vil is seen appreciating (Twisted Wonderland Wiki). The archer is linked with the Centaur and Sagittarius (ironically his birth sign) which represents having insight which can be linked to Rook having knowledge of other students and of other things that normal people would not. Rook is known to freely speak his mind with what we see as with intentions of helping them even if his words or actions may be seen as weird or out of place, but in the end they have the effects he was aiming for or benefit the person in some way. Also “that hearts align in embracing the perfection of that targeting” (Girvin, 2013) which is poetic in Rook being a hunter and calling himself the “Hunter of Love.” An archer remains cool and observes from afar, becoming the symbol of honour, precision and patience.
In the Spanish caves of Cova dels Cavalls, they found etched carvings of archers estimated to be from about 7000 years ago (Stanley, 2020). They were believed to be a form or hunting magic ritual to manifest good hunting, this fits well with Rook being a magic user in the game and makes him wielding a bow make sense as well as again representing his Snow White counterpart. Archery and magic connections as referenced when Rook is in battle as he summons his magic attacks with an arrow releasing maneuver, as seen below:
Tumblr media
This can also reference his love for art, arrows bound in one of the first forms of art for centuries and also shows their use and endless help throughout time. A metaphorical and physical weapon just like with Rook, attacking metaphorically with his words and physically with his arrows/magic. Arrows are meant to be simple yet two dimensional (with its pointy and flat ends), Rook too is portrayed as being simple yet ironically he is also not. Two dimensional as in maybe despite all our theorising, he may just be a simple man who loves beauty yet there are still many unanswered questions about him and his past. However this can be said for other characters in the game as well, so perhaps Rook Hunt is just a simple man with weird qualities? That is still to be discovered. “The durability of the arrow metaphor, as with archery in general, looks unlikely to go anywhere soon,” (Stanley, 2020) this is a simple symbol linked with archery which can further be associated with the idea of Rook being simple and not as complicated as we believe. Rook being able to use light and dark magic can reflect this as humans are neither dark or light, they are simple beings with desires and goals that can be either good or bad. Rook too has his desires that some might perceive as odd, his goals are simple to (as seen in the wish upon the stars event) see all the beauty in the world.
In Japan, Zen archery (or Kyudo) where the goal was to “achieve a balance among mind, body, and bow, which gives rise to a unity that links the spirit to the target,” (Encyclopedia.com, 2020). Which again reflects Rook’s ability of using both types of magic, showing his inner peace and balance and ability to use both types of magic. He is a character that we don't see explode or express vivid emotions which could be linked with his hunting too. Bow and arrows have been known as symbols of good luck against evil in Japan since immemorial. We will probably see this in action during Vil’s overblot as that will be the evil to defeat in Chapter 5 alongside the other characters.
The word “rook” has multiple meanings, like crows. Many have associated this and Rook’s poem about Crowley as them being signs of a possible connection between the two. Although this theory is very interesting and I would love for a twist like this, Disney is honestly too stupid to make a story as wonderful as that, but I could be wrong (please prove me wrong Disney). On the other hand it could symbolise Rook’s knowledge of everyone and how he could be aware of some of Crowley’s secrets or the secrets/mysterious of the school. They tend to be watchful creatures with great insight, which can be said the same for Rook as he observes other students and has knowledge of things that others normally do not have. Crows are also associated with transformation and change (Clifford, 2020)  which could represent Rook helping Vil and Epel, along with others to bring forth their beauty. There is also a well known nursery rhyme about crows, as seen below:
Tumblr media
Although the history behind the rhyme is not that clear, the seventh line does hold some connection to  Rook’s wide range of secrets that he knows and holds himself. Rook is also used for loud and sociable people or animals who love to talk, Rook is known for his loud and expressive persona that fits this description. Rook can also mean cheat, which could link to him sabotaging Vil to save Neige. The name is given to those with dark hair which is clearly not Rook (with his blond locks) but could refer to his hunter counterpart instead.
Rook is famous for his golden bob that is quite the debate. However bobs have a deep history. In the 20th century, bobs used to symbolise independent, progessive people encouraging a more daring personality during those times. Movies have been the main reason for the spread and back in style of the bob. Rook embodies a free personality with his odd attire in the dorm that symbolises beauty (hunting boots and hats) showing his more bold side that can also be seen by his freely open speech. Joan of Arc is the main inspiration of the bob that was brought back by Antoine, a celebrity hairdresser, which he showed in his salon in 1909 (V is for Vintage, 2012). Although she wore it for more practical meanings, she still stands for representing the people and doing what she believed in. It’s likely though that the bob was more inspired by the hunter’s hair style for Rook yet it still represents daring and progressive people which Rook is commonly known for with his views and actions.
In conclusion, Rook Hunt is an odd yet interesting character. He is neither complex or simple. We still have much to learn about him which we hopefully will in the coming chapters and his birthday event. Although his character design may seem strange, in the end they make perfect sense when looking at the connections they all have towards the game and it’s details. I hope that this managed to clear up Rook’s character and explain more about him. However, there are a few attributes that are still questionable which if Disney has any concept of storytelling, they will explain...I hope for Rook’s sake. His stalking and obsession could be linked to how he sees himself as nothing much and viewing others as better or more beautiful, in that case he’s got some emotional package. Still does not excuse his actions. These tendencies might also be them expanding on a hunter stalking and keeping track of their prey, in this case for Rook it would be people he finds interesting. In the end he’s one of the many wonderful boys we have to learn more about and love.

Questioning Nie Huaisang’s Motives
My partner and I had a recent discussion about Nie Huaisang.
One of the things I love about The Untamed is the amount of ambiguity in the story. It truly is how you build a fandom. Add just enough ambiguity so people can take the story and run with it. Create their own interpretations and head cannons.
But I digress.
One of the characters with a huge amount of ambiguity is Nie Huaisang. He inspires so many questions.
For one, by the end of the story we all know Nie Huaisang to be a master manipulator and actor, like textbook evil genius.
I think most of us assume that he’s always been that intelligent. Even though he came off as a dullard when he was younger, it was all part of an act no? In the novel even Wei Wuxian comments that he doesn’t find Nie Huaisang unintelligent, only that he uses his intelligence for things that give him pleasure like collecting art or birds.
So that leads to the question, why did Nie Huisang hide his cunning for so long when he was younger? It obviously wasn’t easy with his brother being as scary as he was.
There might be several reasons, again thats the lovely part of ambiguity, but my partner and I theorized two and what I find interesting about them is that one makes him out to be more benevolent than evil and vice versa.
THEORY#1: HE WANTED TO BE A GOOD CLAN LEADER... one who would last, so he was trying to deny the inevitable for the longest amount of time possible.
Nie Huaisang knows that every head of the Nie clan inevitably falls mad due to their style of cultivation.
He knows that while being good at cultivation would earn him respect, possibly the same type of respect his brother engendered, but it would also put him at the start of a one way path towards madness.
He probably knows that he will have to take over the clan at some point. He’s not dumb, he knows that his brother will eventually succumb to his family’s fate.
But when he ascends as leader he would rather give his people a leader who can last, who can make smart decisions even if his cultivation isn’t high. He may eventually have to start cultivating more as it would be expected of him, but by playing the inept fool he can delay the process.
If we take this sort of selfless, benevolent interpretation of Nie Huaisang, we might even make the leap that his take down of Meng Yao wasn’t only personal, but something that he may have seen as for the greater good.
THEORY#2: HE DIDN’T WANT TO BE CLAN LEADER AT ALL....he didn’t want the responsibility.
Our second interpretation was that Nie Huaisang fakes being an idiot merely because he doesn’t want to take on any role as clan leader.
He might be a genius but that doesn’t mean he wants to be in charge of others or lead. He’d rather spend time fulfilling his own pleasures. Thus, he makes himself seem inept.
Again, he probably understands that he will eventually have to become leader, but for the time he is content to manipulate the circumstances to draw out that future for as long as possible.
Now the thing that I think is darkly interesting about this second theory is that it paints Nie Huaisang in a more selfish light. If we look at this interpretation of Nie Huaisang, then we can picture him as being petty and spiteful. So what if his take down of Meng Yao wasn’t just vengeance for his brother’s death BUT ALSO personal vengeance for forcing him to take on a responsibility he never wanted in the first place.
The take down is also revenge for spoiling his free time in a sense.
Doesn’t that kind of give you chills?
What do you guys think of these random notions? I haven’t watched the movie with him and Nie Mingjue so I’m probably missing more character insight.

Shang-Chi! and the Rings of Daddy Murder Death!
Tumblr media
When the trailer for this movie first came out, I was hyped! From the cast, to the bad ass bus scene, to Wong vs The Abomination,
Tumblr media
 I was sold!
Of course you had the people who came out saying "This is Marvel trying to be woke again. Hate crimes against Asian people on the rise, and here comes Marvel with Shang-Chi" We know this to be crazy, because Marvel already had this in the works, but certain people still reacted that way. But, even if that notion were true, would that be so bad?
It wouldn't absolve the ignorance, hatred, violence, and toxicity. But, if someone in Hollywood said "We've screwed over Asian people in films for like... ever. What if this time we choose a popular Asian character to base a movie on, and we DON'T do that?"
Now, (being that this movie supposedly leans on Chinese culture, with Shang-Chi being Chinese) China might argue that they still did them wrong (valid racist historical ptsd, cultural splicing, the whole martial arts thing, plus the main character is actually Canadian). It's not my place to weigh-in. But, I will say that making Shang-Chi Canadian, NOT a martial artist, but instead a hockey player, who loves Drake, and co-starring another Canadian, like Micheal Cera or someone
Tumblr media
probably wouldn't have worked as well for the MCU. Then, maybe Canada would have a problem with Marvel. I don’t envy movie-makers in this context.
When I was a kid I was big into Black Belt Theater, Bruce Lee movies,
Bruce Leroy,
Tumblr media
and within my love for martial arts and fighting entertainment was
Shang-Frickin-Chi.
Tumblr media
I liked it, though I remember it being a lil racist. It's weird going back in time to see your fav childhood shows and books that wouldn't fly today:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I mean we've certainly been a lot more sensitive these days:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Regardless, Shang-Chi is here! (played by Canada's main man Simu Liu) He goes by the name of Shaun!
Tumblr media
Don't let that name fool you. Shaun will whup that ass! He says "Bleep all those super powers, and serums, a suits, and magic, and the rubber bones of Widow! That's some ol bullshit! All I need is my Wu-Tang style!" A style fueled by his daddy issues. And he's got some serious daddy issues. To be fair, his dad is the villain of the story. If your father was the active villain of your story, you'd also have issues.
Awkwafina is his sidekick
Tumblr media
(much better than Michael Cera would be), she plays as Katy. That's fun. Every Katy I've ever known has been fun... and a heavy drinker:) This Katy is here to drive fast and crack jokes.
Ladies and Gentlemen, your new Marvel duo!
Tumblr media
It's not just daddy issues for Shang-Chi, but mommy issues (she dead), avoidance issues, his sister kicks him in the balls. He didn't even seem shocked. I mean, his balls were shocked, for sure, but it seemed like she just did that all of the time. I'm imagining Christmas when they were kids. "Here's your gift, bro. KNEE TO THE NUTS Merry Christmas" What kind of relationship is that? And why?! - well, he did abandon her for like 10 years, but... you know, that's plenty of time for her to get over it, right?? So, we'll say sister issues, his daddy training him to be an assassin issues, and his friends have issues with him! - AND KATY! They don't respect Marvel's new duo. They think Shaun and Katy should be doing more with their lives.
They are both valets during the day, and at night they rock drunken karaoke. That seems like the perfect life to me.
But, Daddy and his power rings couldn't allow them to keep living the dream. I haven't mentioned the ten rings yet.
Tumblr media
They give him super-duper-magical martial arts powers, and make him eternal. AND made him an asshole.
To be fair, he was probably already an asshole before the powers. He's been killing a lot of people. You figure he's been around for 1000+ years. His wife is dead, and he has no hobbies. It's not like he kills a few people and then goes home to read a book, or play video games, or make TikTok videos. It's sunrise to sunset killing all day, every day for generations. Then, he forms an evil terrorist group called "Ten Rings" to amplify his killing.
"Murder Death Rings" are what they should be called.
"Daddy Death Punchy Time"
""Dead Doomy Rangs of Killer Dad"
"The Legendary Killer Rings of Deadly Death Death Murder Pops"
"The... " sorry, I've been drankin a lil bit while I write... I lost my place.
I like "Daddy Death" Where was I?
Right! He can't have Shaun being happy! We've gotta get this plot going, so he sends the only white dude he can find in this movie to start some trouble for them. I guess, there might have been a couple of more white people in the film, but they all got the snot beat out of them in that bus scene. This white dude's name is "Razor Fist", yep... "Razor Fist!".
Tumblr media
At least they didn't stick to the original design.
Tumblr media
Ridiculous. How does he use the bathroom?
He's played by Florian Munteanu, who is a former heavy weight boxer. Yeah! Was also in "Creed" his nickname is "The Big Nasty". Isn't that a drink? A bartender once offered me to sample a drink called "The Big Nasty". I chose to go with a drink that doesn't have "nasty" in its title. ... I think he was offering me a drink.
???
"Daddy Murder Death" and "Sharp Fisty Man" spark this thang. And Shaun becomes Shang-Chi, beater of ass!
Tumblr media
The visuals in this movie are the best Marvel has done to date. The action is so good. I just got finished raving about the action in "Black Widow"; this surpasses that. I dug the cast. I know some people don't like Awkwafina, but... get over it. She was great in this; everybody was!
I loved the soundtrack! I'm not normally the "I loved the soundtrack guy" , but it was perfect. It begs to be mentioned.
No issues with the story. And the emotions that they're stirring in you. Whew!
One moment I'm enjoying the beater of ass, then Katy is making me laugh, then the slew of issues got me in my feelings, then the visuals wow me, then more swelling issues, back to ass beating - all the way through.
And the ending! True, Marvel has a formula (and this sticks to it), but if it ain't broken, why bleep with it?? The ending was Game of Thrones-ish, but with light so a brotha can see, and all the colors of the rainbow - like a Skittles commercial with martial arts.  Fun! - so not like GOT at all, I guess. The only fun they had was when there was torture or prostitution going on.
I don't have anything bad to say about the movie. They could have shaved 5-10 mins off, but I won't take off for that; there's just too much to love about this!
Grade: A+
Fun for the whole family! I can see the fam working through some issues after the watch.
Daughter: "You know, Dad. That asshole dad of Shang-Chi kinda reminds me of you."
Mom: "Daughter! You do NOT talk to your father that way!"
Daughter: “Just sayin...”
Dad: "That's interesting, cuz his ungrateful, bitch of a daughter reminds me of YOU!"
Mother and Daughter: *gasp
Son: *laughs
Dad: "All I want you to do is take your school work seriously and maybe date a guy who doesn't smell like weed!"
Daughter: "I'll have you know that's his natural smell! And maybe I'd focus more on school, if I didn't have to focus on YOU being such a BLEEPING ASSHOLE, DAD!"
See, that's healthy dialogue, right there. Maybe the family that watches this movie buys mommy a bunch of guns for protection, so she doesn't end up dead like the mommy in this movie. Like a ridiculous amount of guns!
And I could see brother and sister kicking each other in the crotch to resolve their differences. BUT, if they're close-by, fighting each other, then there's no time to abandon one another.
Marvel does it again!
Whichever of the Marvel films is your favorite, this one will probably be up there as well.

Prompt:
Due to a Chaos Rift that shook the very fabric of space and time, the Master Emerald being severed in two and trying to attempt to mend it back into one again was Sonic.
Since he was the only one that had connected so many times to the power of Chaos, channeling it into his very core, it was almost like he was a being of pure, controlled chaos energy.
However, this was not the case.
As Knuckles performed the act of combining the Master Emerald’s power to link it to Sonic, which was whole at the time, it ended up reversing the effects...
Instead, once Sonic was perfectly linked to the Master Emerald, the Master Emerald didn’t combine it’s energy to match Sonic, but Sonic’s soul ended up matching the Master Emerald...
Two Sonic’s were created, one with a darker hue and the other with a much lighter hue than the original Sonic.
They both seemed off from Sonic, one possessing more of an anger and the other a quiet justice that sporadically meant being protective over his friends.
This meant that Darker Sonic, the one with anger, also was more emotionally unstable and his actions didn’t seem to make much sense other than lashing out.
Lighter Sonic, the one with a serious look always to his face, valued heroism almost to the point of excessivism. Although not as emotional as his dark brother/other half, he was almost stoic but deeply loyal and passionate to his idea of ‘right’ and extremely merciless in destroying what he considered ‘wrong’.
Unable to stand each other, the two would often fight unless separated. It was almost as though the two conflicting sides of Sonic’s personality and very being were constantly at odds with each other, resulting in Knuckles never being able to get them to work together to conjoin back into Sonic--and consequently--bring the Master Emerald back into a whole state of being as well.
Chaos, the God of Destruction, tried to fight the two Sonic’s into joining together again, shoving them up against the other and using his power to force a fuse, but Amy was the only one to hear Darker Sonic state that Lighter Sonic would never accept him, and therefore, never merge successfully back into what they once were.
She felt she had found a clue... but as they defeated Chaos in his weakened, torn state, they vanished...
As everyone tried to find the Lighter Sonic, Amy... went for the Darker.
She knew he was staying in an abandoned mansion somewhere in the woods, one he would talk about back when he was dealing with being a werehog... she had heard his ghost stories and about a camera flashing to help him fight, then his frustration and tearing through the home... but she wondered if that’s where his other self had run off too...
She wasn’t wrong...
Creaking open the door, after passing the gates, it was clear the ‘ghosts’ that used to live here were too afraid to re-enter the home. Unable to fully communicate to her, they played charades to retell the events that had occurred. In his emotional coldness, Darker Sonic must have gone into a fury and kicked the three out of the mansion, wanting to be alone...
Amy put a finger up to her mouth, worried about him... the Lighter Sonic seemed to be the hero-side of Sonic... but he also seemed crueler.
She didn’t want to believe that this Darker Sonic was apart of Sonic’s true self either... he seemed too unstable and emotional... but she’d rather try and reason with that than stoic stubbornness...
She wondered if the Chaos Rift had split and twisted Sonic’s personality traits... their was no way Sonic could be so torn between these parts of himself all the time... wouldn’t someone break under all that stress? Did he really, truly struggle with two sides of himself..?
Did he discipline himself to act one way, but truly desire another? Or have the tendency for it?
She shook her head from her thoughts as she passed the gate and had already walked through the door, peeking in to see what she could find.
It was once a lovely home... she could tell by the woodwork, the remains of the furniture... it could have been a very luxurious estate...
“...Sonic?” She called out quietly, seeing something turn it’s head in the dark.
Leaning rather relaxed but frighteningly still on a banister upon the large staircase that split into three,... was his shadowed self.
Sonic was too free-spirited to have internal conflicts this bad... right?
Was chaos energy promoting such division? Was the Chaos Rift more than just some attack Shadow used back then... did it actually continue to chip and crack away at the Master Emerald every time it was used to create... this?
Shadow was already fine with never using such an ability again, but everyone was convinced this Sonic was like the evil tendencies of man within Sonic,... but Amy couldn’t help and see some suffering in him...
Lighter Sonic had dismissed her in a cold way... and she knew that couldn’t be... exactly... her Sonic either...
Could she see... Sonic in this light?
She froze at the foot of the three-splitting stairway... her hand up by her chest as she scanned his form delicately... careful to try and read his body language and figure out what was going on.
“...Sonic?” she called again, but he didn’t respond, only huffed and quickly sped to the far right stairway, raising a hand to the rails.
“Amy Rose... I should have known you wouldn’t know better.” He mocked under his breath... But he turned his face away from her, suggesting that maybe he thought she was in danger of himself... it almost seemed like the mock was a double-edged sword cutting into his own pride.
“I’m here... to talk.” She narrowed her eyes, tilting her head and trying to see him in the light. There wasn’t much of it... but some open windows on the bottom floor made her seeable, so... if she could get him to come down...
“Talking only ever ends with someone being proved right.” Darker Sonic gestured out his arm, haphazardly. He took two powerful steps down the stairway, eyeing her as he moved to the center and let go of the rail. His shoulder pointed to her intimidatingly, as though a warning... “And I’m not here to be proven anything.”
The harsh growl to his voice made her realize he was still compromised, and she closed her eyes to inch away. “I know you’re not bad, Sonic... So I know you wouldn’t hurt me.” She tried to be brave, taking her shaking hand by her chest and gripping it strongly with her other one, but it made her look more afraid...
“If you are Sonic... then I know there’s no evil in you. Not even a little bit.”
She jumped back when he sped all the way down to her, standing directly to her face with a strong presence of critique.
“Of course you would say that... while everyone else follows like lapdogs after my other half... you would come to the unwanted side.” He smiled as he moved closer, but she immediately paced herself back and adverted her eyes.
He stopped then, standing tall. “...Are you afraid?”
She shook her head, “I could never be afraid of you...”
A smile crooked to the side of his muzzle, but disappeared quickly. He moved forward again, “Then why not try to convince me... that I should fuse with my other half... and not the other way around.” he reached out to her, and she looked at his hand to see what he’d do.
He smirked and suddenly gripped behind her neck, pulling her back as the door smashed through and Lighter Sonic walked bristly into the room, dusting himself off in a pompous way from the dust and debris.
“Give her back.” He stated without much tone or even emotion. “Kidnapping never was something I admired.” he joked, but it completely lacked Sonic’s charm.
Having Sonic’s charm, Darker Sonic lowered his eyes and held Amy out in front of him, “So like you to jump to conclusions... As though you actually care about her.” Darker Sonic then threw Amy over his shoulder, pointing accusingly to his Lighter Self. “Let’s end this! I won’t be repressed anymore!”
“...You’re so impish.” Lighter Sonic shook his head, “Rash, a real bore. Let her go and I’ll prove I’m the only Sonic that need remain.”
“Now you sound like Metal.” scoffed Darker Sonic, letting Amy roll off his shoulder and arm to land to the floor.
She wasn’t hurt, just spun up a bit as she landed on her hands and knees.
When that happened though, Lighter Sonic’s expression finally changed and he twitched to hold a hand out to her, “Can’t you let her down a little easier!?” he demanded, “She’s a girl, after all!”
“She’s taken worse tumbles.” Darker Sonic stood in front of Amy, as though showing he wouldn’t let Lighter Sonic play the hero this time. “All you see me as is a villain to control... A urge to suppress... You’re embarrassed by how you are!” he hunched himself down, “Well, I’m not gonna take the backseat this time... I’m you, smart-one! And you can’t get rid of me that easily!” he took off and rammed a fist into his blocking arm.
“You’re endangering my friends... you think that’s acceptable!?” Lighter Sonic threw a kick out that Darker Sonic flipped over and landed with a bit of style.
“I didn’t do anything...” Darker Sonic grumbled as Lighter Sonic disregarded him and headed over to Amy, looking at him from over his shoulders as he was still rearing to fight. “Don’t ignore me!” he shouted out, which was like a loud boom that caused Amy to plug her ears.
She had never heard Sonic’s voice with such ferocity before...
Lighter Sonic bent to a knee and took her arms, helping her up. “You should get out of here.” he checked to make sure she was fine, and then like before, completely turned away from her.
It was strange... though he seemed caring, he didn’t really express it well. The Darker Sonic...
She remembered him reaching out to her, then pulling her to him to get away from the door blasting open...
They both cared... but in different ways, expressed that they didn’t want to hurt her...
Then they clashed into each other, Chaos energy slashed through the air as they collided each time, cutting some wood in the mansion and making the ghosts cower and the girl shriek at her home being so torn up.
Amy emphasized but she didn’t know what she could do... She knew that Darker Sonic had taken the two pieces of the split Master Emerald with him... so she started up the stairs, bracing against each deadly beam of light that exploded from the two’s fighting.
She had already learned there was no way to reason with them to stop fighting... from the previous times they had clashed, it was just no use no matter what anyone did.
How did Lighter Sonic know to come here..? Was there still a sliver of connection between the two..?
That would mean...
As she tried to climb the stairs, Darker Sonic saw her and immediately rushed to stomp a foot down by her reaching hand.
She gasped, withdrawing her once reaching hand as the blasts got so forceful that they shoved her to the ground.
“Where are you going?” He seemed so angry... but there was hurt in his eyes. “You’ll find nothing up here!”
Lighter Sonic then tackled into him, rolling and crashing them through the already rotting wood railing as they and the splintered remains of that side of the stairway gave out.
“Sonic!” Amy cried out, seeing the stairway collapsing and rushed to jump to the edge as half of it came down.
She pulled herself up and breathed hard, looking down to see them throw off the rubble and continue pounding into each other in an alarmingly hostile rate.
She then wondered... could it be Sonic?
“You almost hurt her!” Lighter Sonic argued, getting a punch in before Darker Sonic returned the same.
“You know full well I wouldn’t do that!” He then shoved against him, and they were evenly matched as their arms gripped the other’s shoulders and tried to push them back.
They gritted their teeth, one looking overly justified and the other with unbridled rage.
“Sonic... your emotions... your ideals... they clash too often, don’t they?” She whispered to herself, realizing that Sonic was a good man, but one that was like the rest of humanity... constantly dueling the two sides to yin and yang. One with passionate cause and the other with selfish needs.
She quickly continued her climb, though she desperately wanted to fall down with them and unlock them from their deadly feuding, she knew she couldn’t match the chaos power they both wielded at the moment.
Darting from room to room, she threw the doors open, not bothering to close them as the Sonics naturally followed in their brawling, trying to reach her.
“No!” Darker Sonic reached out to her but was blocked off and hit back by Lighter Sonic.
“Amy, get out of here!” Lighter Sonic gestured a hand out that slashed across from his chest, “It isn’t safe!”
Darker Sonic actually took the initiative and bolted pass Lighter Sonic, attempting to grab her and take her out of the mansion and warzone himself, but Lighter Sonic quickly intercepted.
They brawled down the hallway in vicious rolls and slams against the sides of the wall as they continued to pursue Amy, both with a similar goal but different ways to go about it.
‘There’s Sonic...’ Amy felt her eyes get watery in her fright at the mansion not able to handle the two fighting Sonics powers, but another part of her was determined to put them back together again.
She finally found it, at the end of the hallway, she burst open two large doors that revealed the Master Emerald on a balcony... upon closer look... she marveled that there was still a small piece that was conjoined, not severed yet.
She nodded, realizing this meant that they were, both, Sonic.
She turned around and spread her arms out, seeing the Sonics tackle into the balcony room and used her hammer to separate them from their wrestling, childish squabble and threw each of the other to opposite sides.
“That’s enough!”
The two panted but got up from the ground.
“This doesn’t concern you...” Lighter Sonic went for a gentler approach, but there was still somewhat a condensing hint in his actions. “Just leave this to me.”
“Stop!” Amy shoved her hammer towards him, making him pause in his pursuit to her. “I’ll get to you in a minute.”
He was stunned to hear that, his eyes actually emoting the look of being talked back too.
She glared at him, “I’ve had enough of your self-righteousness for one day.” she then looked to Darker Sonic, who was holding his arm and spat out to the side of himself.
“My thoughts exactly..!”
“And you...” Amy stepped in-between the two, making sure she could only see one side of Sonic at a time. “I never thought I’d say this to Sonic... but you need to calm down.” held out her hand without the hammer in it, gently trying to appease him looking tenderly towards him. “You’re hurting... you don’t want to fail, but you hate not being the hero... even though at times, you’re just a boy, and you want to do things your way, not the heroic way that everyone idealizes you to be.”
He looked up as though confused how she knew that.
“You were happy... weren’t you? When I was the one to turn my attention to you instead of to him, right?”
He remained silent, as though ashamed as he calmed his breathing, and looked away.
His eyes were scanning the floor wildly... as though worried she could see right through him.
There was a gentleness to the Darker Sonic she hadn’t seen before... but after putting the two on different sides of her eyes... she could start seeing traits line up.
“You’re neither good nor bad, either of you!” She looked back to Lighter Sonic. “You are duty bound, that’s why you hate the selfish freedom the other desires to the point of not listening to reason, but enacting your own idealistic views only makes you suffer too.” She saw him pause and as though swallowing his pride, lower his head and stare intensely at her.
“You can’t pretend you know me...” He seemed to be letting the words bounce off of him, or trying too.
While Darker Sonic was taking it to heart.
Realizing she couldn’t get through to Lighter Sonic so quickly, she turned back to the vulnerable side, “You both admitted you didn’t want to hurt me, right? Is that the only thing you two have in common?”
She saw the piece that was still intact, way at the bottom of the emerald’s pointed center... she knew the real Sonic was still poking out somewhere... and she had to find it.
Otherwise... she didn’t want to imagine what would become of him.
“It’s not all reputation, is it?” Amy looked to Lighter Sonic, seeing Darker Sonic close his eyes to shut this all out, as though too shy to admit and ashamed to admit his jealousy over the praise and admiration his other self, a mask he put on to be adored, always seemed to receive. “And you, carefree and usually always up for an adventure... you’ve been angry too long.”
She was trying to comfort both, but the hurt between both sides was so immense... he had been playing both sides all his life... how could she mend something so incredibly torn and damaged?
“But if I know anything about Sonic... it’s that his natural self is a hero.”
The two turned back to her, their heads moving as though that hit something deep within them.
She closed her eyes, trusting they wouldn’t punch each other out for at least a few seconds while she spoke. “The Sonic I admire... is like the wind. He can be cold at times, but also warm and inviting... he races through the fields and enjoys every second of his life. There’s never a dull moment, and as long as you can keep up, he’ll carry you along for the ride... He’s kind, but he’s also a force to be reckoned with.” she gestured her hammer and hand out to each of them, then looked at her own hands. “One hand grips a powerful speed and anger...” she grasped her hammer, “The other one... can’t stand to hesitate and leave someone in need. It can’t help but want to save and lift others up.”
The two seemed to be stilled a moment... and behind Amy... the torn Master Emerald began to respond to Sonic’s soul... it began to fuse slowly it’s torn self into a glowing, invisible torch that was repairing itself.
Amy turned around to see it, and both Sonic’s instinctively raced to either one of her sides, holding a hand out as though defending her from the sudden heat and lighted sparks from the Master Emerald.
Looking at them, she smiled.
Looking at each other, a slow roll of their eyes, they parted immediately. Walking away, Lighter Sonic put one hand to his hip as though trying to remain cool, while the other folded his arms and tsk’ed to the side of himself, not wanting to play nice.
Amy sighed, seeing that they still were a bit different... but very much the same.
“Will you at least try and find a happy medium?” She moved towards them and took their hands.
Darker Sonic let her gently sink her hand into his folded arms and coax out, very gently, his hand...
Lighter Sonic pulled away, sharply, but seeing Amy’s hammer disappear from being pointed at him... and now her hand pleading for his approval... he looked away and lightly placed his hand to her own...
Lighter Sonic looked nervous and tried to distance himself from the emotional tension... but also the overwhelming love that Amy was showing to both conflicting sides as Darker Sonic used his other hand to flick his own nose, sniffling as though trying to not look dorkish either.
Amy giggled at their familiar responses, “I think I see you for who you truly are now, Sonic.” she liked this, not having him hide his emotions, but being unable to stop his two sides from revealing themselves. “There’s a saying.” She gripped both their hands in a loving embrace, jolting them down a bit in her newfound cheeriness at them not fighting anymore, but actually listening. “That there’s two wolves inside the heart... and the one you feed, will be the winner and devour your heart.” She put their hands together, “However... Some asked, why not starve the two wolves? And another few asked, why not feed both equally, keeping an equilibrium between the two...”
The two Sonic’s saw their hands glowing... much like the light from the Master Emerald, slowly healing.
They finally looked at the other one of them... and Amy saw a neutral expression in each of their eyes...
She smiled and looked to each of them before back down to their hands, placing her hands below and above them, making sure they stayed together.
“But you know what the chief said? Feed your heart... and it will be too large for the wolves to devour.”
The Sonics looked back to her.
“I heard a different tale.” The Darker Sonic stated, “One is good and the other is bad.”
“Yes, I’ve heard that too.” Amy nodded, “But in this case.” She raised her head, “I think the wolves are just our conflicting personalities. One side of me, for example, loves to stay at home and get some chores done. Strange, for you and maybe most, right?” She giggled, watching the mending of the Master Emerald slowly increase in speed, and noticed at the corner of her eyes the two Sonic’s delicately intrigued and hanging off every word she uttered, as though this was the missing meaning they had always longed for in their chaotic inner-life. It gave her courage to continue, hoping that her words would feed Sonic’s soul, and let it form as one again. “But I enjoy cleaning, tending my garden, or even going out to shop for little things I may need in the week.” She then clasped her hands more firmly, but with added love over the two’s hands, as they looked down to action.
One acted a bit surprised, but the other grew flustered and adverted his eyes at her newly adjusted strength for keeping them together.
“However, sometimes I don’t have the energy for staying indoors all day or going through sales racks... sometimes, I really want my life to be less boring, more exciting, and so I race along after you and the others, wanting to do my part to be... even a small change... in helping the world be a better, safer place to live in.”
The Sonics... together... smiled.
In a strange noise, their voices seemed to overlap each other when they chuckled at her words, and she knew by the look of the Master Emerald that if she just kept their hands together for a bit longer... the Master Emerald would fuse his heart together again.
“Those two wolves... don’t devour me.” Amy stated, “Neither one is bad, it’s just the one I choose to pamper that day.” She nodded to her words. “Sometimes I don’t want to do either of them, and that’s not bad either! It doesn’t mean I’m lazy, but lazy days aren’t a bad thing too.”
She watched as she removed her hands... and both Sonics kept their hands on or under the other... letting them remain together.
“You two aren’t wolves,” She put her hands up to her mouth as she giggled more prominently now, “You’re just stubborn hedgehogs that don’t know what to do with yourselves! One of you wants to be aloof and peaceful, while the other wants to fight bad guys and save the world with his friends. Neither is bad, and both of you... are the sides of Sonic’s heart.”
She placed her hands to her chest and closed her eyes as the two Sonics happily stepped in unison towards each other, and with the last light of the Master Emerald fusing itself together, Amy kept her eyes closed with the giant beam of light till it faded.
“...Amy..?”
Amy slowly opened her eyes, and looked up to see her beloved’s face again.
“Thank you.” He stated, earnestly, putting a hand to his hip and looking tenderly towards her. “I never knew I needed that... pep-talk... thing.” he admitted, but goofily moved his hand in a funny way.
She giggled again, and he chuckled to her laughter.
“Let’s let the others know it’s all good now.” He nodded in the direction that made most sense, but then also tilted his head as though changing gears. “I thought no one would accept the silent, selfish desires of my heart like that, Amy... but you’ve shown me that I’m not bad for wanting certain things... I just want them... at different times.” his gentle smile was the one she loved to see, his new humility and self-awareness made him open but complete again, and she was overwhelmed with her feelings once again.
“Ahh!” She squealed in delight, covering her face and twisting her body away from him, lifting her leg up slightly and letting the tip of her boot keep her somewhat balanced.
“H-huh?” He looked curiously confused at her behavior, and leaned towards her, turning his body left and right to try and see why she was acting this way. “What’s the matter? Amy?”
“You’re so handsome!” she cheered, then parted her hands to flirtatiously lean her nose up by his, but still watching him pull back and not daring to touch hers with his. He made a face but she found it funny, seeing him wincing his mouth back like that, “Especially when you’re thanking me~” she teased, and he looked away, groaning at her antics and then rubbing his nose slightly with a wink towards her.
“You would still be you, even split in two, wouldn’t you, Amy?”
“Oh, one part would definitely be all over you, that’s for sure.” Amy leaned back and put her hands behind her back as Sonic suddenly looked a bit frightful.
“O-oh?” He was definitely turning sheepish, starting to walk passed her as the Master Emerald and him were still linked, so it up and lifted itself into the air and floated after him. “You don’t have to tell me the rest of it.” He kept his head down and eyes closed as Amy trotted off after him.
“Well, actually, without my self-restraint, I’d have probably carried you tied to the chapel by now.”
He groaned again as she skipped after him.
“Hmm... Maybe I should split myself. But would that mean you’re only married to a part of me... or..?” as she thought teasingly out loud, he finally turned around and gave her a scolding look, shaking his head as though she was taking the joke too far as Amy then laughed at him.
He seemed to give up and throw his arms up, shrugging, “Remind me to make sure that never happens to you then...”
“If I’m ever linked to the Master Emerald... and Shadow breaks his promise--which I know he wouldn’t!--but if he did... would you... do what I did for you and help put me--and the Master Emerald, of course--back together again..?” she asked, cutely, as he stopped to think a second.
“Ah! Really! You have to think about it!?”
“No... not that.” Sonic mused as he suddenly grinned back to her, “Just thinking... is there even a part of you that wouldn’t be all over me?”
Amy blushed and held her tongue after that, as Sonic laughed and laughed while making it out of the mansion, apologizing in a deep, forward bow to the ghosts, and then taking Amy’s hand to help her keep up his fast pace as they made it back to Knuckles to cut off the link.
Amy wanted to ride the Master Emerald, so he helped her up on top of it, and although it did float a little closer to the ground, she was able to hang on as Sonic took off at lightning speeds...
Later, when Amy was dusting off some of her home, the doorbell sounded off.
Leaning on her home’s sign, Sonic jokingly pretended he was looking at his nails.
“Which part of your heart are you feeding today, Amy?” He acted as though uncaring, but Amy was already growing in excitement at seeing him there, at her home, unexpectedly. “The part that likes to clean all day... or the side that likes a little excitement every now and then.” He put his hands behind his head, smiled cheekily to the ground with his eyes closed, before turning his head to her with a proud look on his face as he opened one eye to a subtle ‘winky’ expression~

TPN S02E06 - Initial Thoughts (anime-only)
hhh everything went wrong with my reaction video this time - the video is lagging (so i replaced the screenrecording with the actual episode), also facecam broken so my friends won’t get to see me tearing up and the wrong mic input was recorded so I’m sorry for the shitty quality. I’m so upset :(
Edit: Google Drive Link! :)
.
I don’t even know what to really talk about because I liked everything?? it was such a good episode and I just... AHHH. I wish we had so much more of THIS. please give them more seasons.... ik its already too late for that but pleaseee fidusdj- they just... do so well when they adapt imo. the whole comparison panels I’ve seen of the interactions with Norman, I just... genuinely think it’s such a highpoint and they did so friggin well.
I just... I’m so sad this will likely be the last season. I hope we’ll get more, in whatever form. I know there’s the manga and unless we get an announcement about more anime content at light speed, I do plan on reading it! I just... I love the anime. And it’s art. The manga’s art is unique but the style isn’t my jam and some stuff just looks a bit too stylized for my liking hhhh-
That won’t stop me but... it does make me emotional, I guess.
Let’s hope they stay on this path now that they’ve joined back in with the manga, somewhat (still, you couldnt even give them 12 episodes??).
.
. the reunion
It gave me flutters!! it’s so nice and intimate and sweet and dusdhj- THE NORMAN SQUISH. And him noticing Emma’s ear is gone TvT Her sweet, kinda embarrassed “I left it back at home” efiojsd
also the clothing line here separates the two groups, alluding to the conflict between them later in the episode. They’re strangers on two sides, and Norman is the only connecting piece.
Tumblr media
I didn’t really dislike anything aside from Ray being left out. I just wanted them both to run for him I guess :( though it makes sense to be more distant, he also was at the shipment itself but idk, it just makes Norman seem so,,, rude that he doesn’t acknowledge Ray at all until Emma is like “hey btw I brought him too” :”D
Slap kinda deserved, on multiple fronts haha-
Though the mutual “baka” calling between Norman and Ray was adorable duihdasjdas
.
. Emma’s arc
a few days ago, I made that whole “anime emma’s arc” post about her feeling useless and how that might come into play - and I do hope they address it and I think they kind of are? Because GF arc Emma was always ready to have her way, even if it seemed impossible.
Either way, I feel like part of why she didn’t speak up is kind of as alluded to, that she doesn’t feel like she has the right to when she doesn’t know any other way right now. And I hope that in the next few episode we will see her headstrong and do things and be pro-active and kind of challenge that and Norman.
.
. Norman (+ his crew)
It was kind of on the nose when Norman held that whole speech about what she had said before, a small hint to it would have been enough I feel like, for the audience -- because I think realizing that part of his motivation in all of this was just her words and that he wanted to do that for her (I think that’s the implication) is really sweet. He is kind of the carrier here and I hope that will change because it feels like we haven’t earned this bio weapon at all - which is okay, because it probably won’t be the solution, so it’s more of a plot-moving element than an actual solution. And I hope that whatever the solution really does entail will feel less like an ass-pull and more deserved.
I feel it may have been interesting to have a pov switch somewhere in ep4 or ep5 to Norman and what he’s been up to. The reveal was kind of “...? okay?” anyway so I feel like that would have made things a little interesting, but I also really enjoy getting to know his squad now.
I’m also HIGHKEY SUS (all alarm bells are ringing) at Norman being like “Oh I just did tests” like.... BABY. PRECIOUS SON, ARE YOU PRETENDING EVERYTHING’S FINE AGAIN?
The fact that Norman didn’t bother explaining further just solidifies (to me, anyway) that he’s avoiding talking about it somewhat. He spoke about it very distantly and from an objective viewpoint.
Alone getting that tattoo on his chest must have hurt a lot. So. Please, give me a lot of angst, CW.
I hope both him and his crew will get some flashbacks or trauma moments to really solidify how badly they’ve been treated (and deliver some juicy angst).
I really loved the close-up on the meat Barbara was eating in that scene too. I felt like it didn't even have to spell it out for us that they're eating demon meat but. Oh well - it was well conveyed but I guess the characters had to confirm.
I also love that whole part about how he’s always cold to them auidhjhs - I really do feel like making a gif out of that haha.
Lambda person: “Boss?” Norman: “What? :/” Emma/Ray: “Norman!” Norman: “Yes? :)”
Also only vaguely related but what’s with people who are made to be eaten, in a state of “dead??? who knows” and then coming back as a “boss” :D Yes I’m talking about beastars.
.
. Mujika
Norman called her the “evil-blooded girl” and the old guy called the temple “evil-blooded” too. And he said it wasn’t a place for kids to be --- and he likely assumed that they were demon kids.
Tumblr media
Also some nice clue before we even know to connect Mujika with the temple.
A demon temple that’s “evil-blooded” and too dangerous for demon kids?
It could just be because it’s a ruin, but he IS praying for the world to change there. Mujika seems to be able to maintain her form without eating humans, so maybe that’s what this is all aiming towards.
I guess it also means that the statue with the violet veil is Mujika??? She does have purple hair I suppose.
At first, I was surprised that Norman recognized her just by the description - there’s more than one demon girl :D but I guess only one demon girl who doesn’t need to eat humans? - and I thought he may have crossed paths with her.
But for that to be the case AND for him to assume she’s alive because Emma and Ray have met her, it can’t mean he actually MET her. Because well, RayEm met her like 2 months after his shipment. Assuming he didn’t break out immediately, he couldn’t have met AND tried to do something to her (likely kill). So my guess is that she’s some sort of legend or diety or just like, commonly known and she’s supposedly dead and he’s shocked because she isn’t.
He also first asked “where did you hear about that?” assuming he also only heard about it. Norman's reaction to them having met them also isn't "when?" (so he could confirm if it was after or before his supposed encounter with her), it's shock that they met her AT ALL. Which to me, implies that she's supposedly dead (which lines up with the temple in ruin, so something happened to her line, or whatever she's a part of). And since Norman couldn't have met her before their escape (Mujika hasn't seen a human when they meet the GF escapees), that's my conclusion.
Assuming she’s dead also makes sense since her (religion’s) temples seem to be in ruin. maybe that’s why no other demons seem to have that ability (that we know of), because it was lost when her presence was destroyed (therefore the ruins) or something of the sort.
She’s never seen a human before apparantly though, so I’m not sure what exactly that means. She doesn’t seem to have wanted freedom for humans prior to meeting them either (she only seemed hesitant about eating them after all that), so I’m not sure what her own motivation in having that sort of religion would even be.
There’s of course also sonju, so maybe it is after all a religion-thing? Who knows-
.
As I’ve talked about before, I think it makes a lot of sense if the demons are part of the solution, I’m just really curious what that solution actually entails for the demons / what exactly Mujika is. I still think it’s plausible that another promise between Mujika and Emma will happen, considering the narrative mirroring TPN does a lot.
.
. other random stuff
there’s mass production farms! I shouldn’t be surprised, but I hope we get to know more about those (likely not since yknow 5 episodes left and all that)
I also liked how they showed the different plants while talking about it, mirroring how we too mutated plants and some animals to further benefit our needs and exploitation...
The pep talk from Ray was good and the sunrise was SO BEAUTIFUL, TAKE ME NOW ANIMATORS
generally the animation, especially in the trio scene and the lambda squad hideout scenes, was so BEAUTIFUL
I liked that I kept joking about how the WM system was rly insecure if a random guy just dropped the pen for Krone to find, but NOW WE HAVE CONFIRMATION IT WAS INTENTIONAL and Smee is truly the MVP / big brain puppet master of this series.
It did seem kind of weird that Norman just left like "yeah this will probably be discovered soon. anyway, I'm leaving you here to go to my base, see ya" - LIKE BRO TAKE THEM WITH YOU SO YOU CAN PROTECT THEM IF THEY SHOW UP LIKE, TONIGHT

1OO IMPORTANT CHARACTER QUESTIONS
taken from beth kinderman and nikki walker’s the 100 most important things to know about your character. a good list to help develop a character’s background, personality, and general aspects.
(Template link here)
Tumblr media
PART 1: THE BASICS
What is your full name?
"Koriand'r, but on Earth it is Starfire!"
Where and when were you born?
"On Tamaran, in the castle. We were still in the war with the Gordanians."
Who are/were your parents? (Know their names, occupations, personalities, etc.)
"Myand'r, the Grand Ruler of Tamaran, and Luand'r, his wife! They were very wonderful! They have cared for us as well as they could, I believe, and I do not doubt that they have loved us very much!"
Do you have any siblings? What are/were they like?
"... Blackfire is my older sister. I have always looked up to her, but she is very much not interested in a positive bond between us. She is a criminal, I believe many parts of the galaxy are searching for her, and she has multiple times before attempted to capture me or bring me into the hands of those who would not be very nice to me.
I much prefer to talk about my baby brother, Ryand'r, or Wildfire as he is calling himself on Earth! We have long thought that he has died when he was still very small, but he has survived and lived many years in complete isolation! He has grown to be very wonderful and nice and friendly, and I am loving him a lot! I am most thankful that he has by now returned to my life!"
Where do you live now, and with whom? Describe the place and the person/people.
"I am living with my best friends, the Teen Titans! Our home is commonly called the 'T-Tower', and it is a very accurate description as it is a building with many floors and in the shape of a T!
Raven is as close to me as I am imagining a sister to be that does not constantly wish to harm me! She is skilled in magic, and she has to meditate for calming her emotions because her powers can be dangerous when she is feeling too strongly! This is also leading to her appearing very calm or 'unemotional' in many situations, I am knowing that she is loving us as much as we her!
I am most admiring Beast Boy's talent for joking! It often is about things that I do not initially understand, but I am still certain that his jokes are always very funny and most entertaining!
Cyborg is very skilled with technology. He has equipped our home with its security, he created our communicators, and he is also very much enjoying to play the games of the video together with Beast Boy!
Our leader is Robin! He is very trained, he knows many types of the martial arts, and I am very much enjoying to fight alongside him! Some times he can be too focused on his work, but we are all trying what we can to make him realize it and stop, and I believe it has bettered over the time that we are together."
What is your occupation?
"I am a hero, one of the Teen Titans! We are using what we are capable of to protect the people of the city - and the planet - from dangers and any form of harm!"
Write a full physical description of yourself. You might want to consider factors such as: height, weight, race, hair and eye color, style of dress, and any tattoos, scars, or distinguishing marks.
"I am commonly wearing my tamaranean uniform, which is mostly purple and combined with silver metallic armor! I believe I am taller than the average human, I am thin and do not have any tattoos, scars or similar! As with all of us tamaraneans, my skin is more orange, or golden, than a human one, and my eyes are having their green color both in the sclera and the pupil! Oh, and I am having long red hair, which I preferto wear untied!"
To which social class do you belong?
"A... a social class? I have never visited the earthen schools!" [[Well, on Tamaran probably upper/highest class since she's of the royal family, and on Earth, average I assume? So probably middle, or something?]]
Do you have any allergies, diseases, or other physical weaknesses?
"I am allergic to metallic chromium."
Are you right- or left-handed?
"My right hand is the one that I am using predominantly!"
What does your voice sound like?
"I believe I am having a very friendly and light voice! But I cannot describe voices well."
What words and/or phrases do you use very frequently?
"There have before been people mimicking me by reciting 'glorious' or 'wonderful', so perhaps those!"
What do you have in your pockets?
"My communicator! A bit of cat food, oh! And this is a drawing that I have been given by a child earlier!"
Do you have any quirks, strange mannerisms, annoying habits, or other defining characteristics?
"People have before mocked me by using very many times of the 'the' in each sentence, so perhaps that is a thing? Although I have never understood this mockery. I am also very much enjoying to hug people - but that cannot be a bad thing, no?"
PART 2: GROWING UP
How would you describe your childhood in general?
"It was a very wonderful childhood! I have grown up with parents that loved me very much, I had two siblings, and I have been able to learn much! There also was our caretaker, Galfore, I am still very close to him and thankful for his advice. ... I would have wished for chances to explore and learn about other worlds already during my childhood, but I can understand how it was too big a risk!"
What is your earliest memory?
"I remember playing a game with my father! I am very happy that this is a memory I recall, especially since at a later time of our lives, he did not have as much time for us anymore."
How much schooling have you had?
"I have completed all the tamaranean schooling! It is not working in the same way as the earthen system, so I cannot compare it."
Did you enjoy school?
"Of course! It was most fascinating to learn about every thing!"
Where did you learn most of your skills and other abilities?
"Most of it has been trained on Tamaran! But with my friends I am also continuing to strengthen my abilities!"
While growing up, did you have any role models? If so, describe them.
"My father! He was wonderful to us, and also a great ruler even in the times of war! I have always admired him. ... I have also very much looked up to my sister. She has always been so strong, so independent and so experienced..."
While growing up, how did you get along with the other members of your family?
"I have gotten along very well with my mother and father! And Ry was most adorable and we were very close as well! ... I have always assumed that I was also getting along well with my sister, but by now I have realized that such never has been the case."
As a child, what did you want to be when you grew up?
"... I have always wanted to be like my sister. ... And I have wished to be able to explore other worlds!"
As a child, what were your favorite activities?
"I have often strolled through the royal garden! ... as long as it has still existed. It was also very entertaining to be taught by Galfore, in cooking and about the history and the customs and how to fight!"
As a child, what kinds of personality traits did you display?
"I do not believe that my personality has changed much since my childhood!"
As a child, were you popular? Who were your friends, and what were they like?
"As children of the royal family, we were very... shielded. There were not many other children that we have met, so I do not believe that there was a chance to truly measure popularity. Those that I did meet liked me though, I believe."
When and with whom was your first kiss?
"Kissing does not carry such a meaning for my people. It is default that as children, we are having lip-contact with multiple teachers, to train the assimilation of languages and to learn the most important languages."
Are you a virgin? If not, when and with whom did you lose your virginity?
If you are a supernatural being (i.e. mage, werewolf, vampire), tell the story of how you became what you are or first learned of your own abilities. If you are just a normal human, describe any influences in your past that led you to do the things you do today.
"My abilities are normal for the tamaraneans, so while I am an alien to this world, I do not think that there is a story that I can tell."
PART 3: PAST INFLUENCES
What do you consider the most important event of your life so far?
"Having met my friends, and having found a home with them!"
Who has had the most influence on you?
"That is either Galfore or my friends of now!"
What do you consider your greatest achievement?
"It has felt like a big success when I had beaten my sister for the second time. And that even while she had used the Jewel of Charta, which was making her much stronger and less vulnerable."
What is your greatest regret?
"I am still feeling very sorry for the destruction that I have initially caused on Earth."
What is the most evil thing you have ever done?
"That destruction, I believe."
Do you have a criminal record of any kind?
"I do not know! But as I have caused damage on this world, I assume it would only be right if it is noted somewhere, no?"
When was the time you were the most frightened?
"After we have watched a movie, Raven's powers had once brought the monsters and the spookiness from the movie to life! It has been a very frightening situation."
What is the most embarrassing thing ever to happen to you?
"I have many times misunderstood the earthen phrases. At times, the people around me are laughing very openly about it. That is making me feel very embarassed."
If you could change one thing from your past, what would it be, and why?
"I would hope to be able to better the connection to my sister!"
What is your best memory?
"I will never forget how Robin has assured me that Blackfire would never have been able to replace me."
What is your worst memory?
"My brief staying in captivity was most horrifying."
PART 4: BELIEFS & OPINIONS
Are you basically optimistic or pessimistic?
"I believe I am more optimistic!"
What is your greatest fear?
"Being alone, and captive, without hopes of escaping."
What are your religious views?
"It would take much time to explain the beliefs of X'Hal to you! It is the tamaranean religion, and I am adhereing to that."
What are your political views?
"I... I do not know what you are asking here. My political views? On what?"
What are your views on sex?
Are you able to kill? Under what circumstances do you find killing to be acceptable or unacceptable?
"Yes. I do not enjoy to take a life, but if there is truly no other option for saving those that are in danger, I will not hesitate as much as I believe my friends would. But under any circumstances, and wherever possible, it should be avoided to kill someone."
In your opinion, what is the most evil thing any human being could do?
"Harming innocent children is most evil!"
Do you believe in the existence of soul mates and/or true love?
"Though I would not call it these, I believe in similar concepts, yes."
What do you believe makes a successful life?
"To be happy, to enjoy what you are doing, perhaps also to make those happy you care for."
How honest are you about your thoughts and feelings (i.e. do you hide your true self from others, and in what way)?
"It is difficult for a tamaranean to be dishonest about the feelings. It can very quickly become similar to a sickness. There are tamaraneans that still do not show what they are thinking or feeling, but I am feeling much better if I am simply being open!"
Do you have any biases or prejudices?
"Even when I am not happy about some thing, I would always do what I can to not let such connections endanger a new meeting."
Is there anything you absolutely refuse to do under any circumstances? Why do you refuse to do it?
"I would always refuse to harm my friends! Because it cannot be right to do such!"
Who or what, if anything, would you die for (or otherwise go to extremes for)?
"It is not a thought that I enjoy. But I believe me and my friends all would not hesitate to give our lives for those of the others."
PART 5: RELATIONSHIPS W/OTHERS
In general, how do you treat others (politely, rudely, by keeping them at a distance, etc.)? Does your treatment of them change depending on how well you know them, and if so, how?
"I am doing my best to treat every one politely! And I do not think that my behaviour is changing if I am knowing some one better."
Who is the most important person in your life, and why?
"All of my friends are!"
Who is the person you respect the most, and why?
"Raven! It must be very difficult to keep such a control of her emotions at all times!"
Who are your friends? Do you have a best friend? Describe these people.
"There are so many friends that I could name! My best friend is Robin! I have described him before, have I not? He is the leader of our team, and he is often willing to explain to me what I do not understand. He is very important to me!"
Do you have a spouse or significant other? If so, describe this person.
"I do not have such!"
Have you ever been in love? If so, describe what happened.
"I... Yes, there was... there was a connection that I have felt immediately as we have first met. We... We are still working on it, I believe."
What do you look for in a potential lover?
"I wish for some one who is friendly, who is there for me and who can rely on me in return. Some one that I am feeling at home and comfortable with!"
How close are you to your family?
"It... it is difficult with Blackfire, I would not call us 'close' at all. But I am very close to my baby brother, now that he has returned to us!"
Have you started your own family? If so, describe them. If not, do you want to? Why or why not?
"I have not! But I am most enjoying the idea. It is a delighting thought to picture myself having children of my own that I can care for!"
Who would you turn to if you were in desperate need of help?
"My friends, my team! The Titans!"
Do you trust anyone to protect you? Who, and why?
"I would never doubt that my friends would always protect me, as I them!"
If you died or went missing, who would miss you?
"I believe my friends and my brother would miss you! And many of my friends would attempt to find me, or find out what has happened. And Galfore certainly, as well!"
Who is the person you despise the most, and why?
"I am aware that she is merely a human, and that I need not feel as strongly towards her... but I do not like Kitten, the daughter of Killer Moth, at all."
Do you tend to argue with people, or avoid conflict?
"I do not like arguing! But if necessary, I would not avoid it."
Do you tend to take on leadership roles in social situations?
"I do not think so. But I am often talking much, so perhaps I am, and merely do not realize it?"
Do you like interacting with large groups of people? Why or why not?
"Certainly! There is an earthen saying, that it is merrier the more people are there, no? I find it very entertaining to have many friends around me!"
Do you care what others think of you?
"I am trying to lessen how much I am caring, but yes. It is most unpleasant when I am insulted."
PART 6: LIKES & DISLIKES
What is/are your favorite hobbies and pastimes?
"Exploring Earth! Oh, and I am enjoying to go shopping, or to cook or care for our Silkie!"
What is your most treasured possession?
"I... There is the 'crown' that I have worn when I came to Earth. My mother has gifted it to me shortly before we have lost her."
What is your favorite color?
"I am very fond of purple, as many of my people are. Perhaps it is simply some thing I have been raised into, as it is the most common color for clothing on Tamaran."
What is your favorite food?
"Glorg!"
What, if anything, do you like to read?
"Raven is recommending books to me some times! I am not very fast with reading them, as I have often some thing else that I am then thinking of doing, but they are most entertaining to read!"
What is your idea of good entertainment (consider music, movies, art, etc.)?
"I do not understand. Entertainment is good if it is keeping one entertained, and as the likes of such vary, it is difficult to have any entertainment that is not good!"
Do you smoke, drink, or use drugs? If so, why? Do you want to quit?
"I am not doing any of these things."
How do you spend a typical Saturday night?
"If we are not on a mission, it is often that me and my friends are making the nights of movies!"
What makes you laugh?
"There are many things that are making me laugh!"
What, if anything, shocks or offends you?
"It is not very nice when people are unfriendly to others based on how they look or which gender they are having. I am hearing bad words because of my looks and for being alien, as well. So perhaps these."
What would you do if you had insomnia and had to find something to do to amuse yourself?
"I would watch TV! There is always some thing interesting shown, no?"
How do you deal with stress?
"It is best to unleash any troubles I am having. Such includes stress. And my friends would certainly aid me in overcoming the stress."
Are you spontaneous, or do you always need to have a plan?
"I am not very good at sticking with plans."
What are your pet peeves?
"I do not understand what those are that you ask for."
PART 7: SELF IMAGES & OTHER
Describe the routine of a normal day for you. How do you feel when this routine is disrupted?
"It is often that our days are not going by routine. When trouble is coming, we are going to it as quickly as we can. It might not be pleasant, but it is necessary, so I am rarely feeling bad about it. On a routine, hmm... I am waking, I stretch and prepare myself for the breakfast. We are commonly eating together, and doing some activity for spending the day. On many days, there is also our training."
What is your greatest strength as a person?
"Perhaps that I am willing to trust others? Although my friends have also told me that it is a big weakness. Perhaps caring for the well-being of others?"
What is your greatest weakness?
"Perhaps my trusting too easily? I do not truly know."
If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be?
"I would not change a thing! I am happy as I am."
Are you generally introverted or extroverted?
"Extroverted!"
Are you generally organized or messy?
"I prefer to have things look organized, but if I am too distracted, I can quickly be very messy, as well."
Name three things you consider yourself to be very good at, and three things you consider yourself to be very bad at.
"I am good at cooking! ... tamaranean dishes. My friends have before complained that I am often not following the recipes, and am creating different earthen dishes than what they expect. I am a capable fighter, and I am good at making friends!
I cannot draw well, um... I am not aware of many parts of the earthen sayings, and I am not good at recognizing when I should not be trusting or believeing someone."
Do you like yourself?
"Yes, I think I do."
What are your reasons for being an adventurer (or doing the strange and heroic things that RPG characters do)? Are your real reasons for doing this different than the ones you tell people in public? (If so, detail both sets of reasons…)
"I am a hero because it would feel wrong to not use my abilities, that are more than the average on this world, to aid others. It would feel egoistic, and I enjoy to help others."
What goal do you most want to accomplish in your lifetime?
"I do not have goals. All I am wishing for is to continue to be happy."
Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
"I hope that I am still with my friends!"
If you could choose, how would you want to die?
"Either after a long living, or if it must happen earlier... I would prefer to die in saving someone else."
If you knew you were going to die in 24 hours, name three things you would do in the time you had left.
"I would visit and hug as many of my friends as I can! I would wish to tell them again how much I value them and how their friendship has delighted me. And I certainly must spend a lot of time with Ry! If there is no more time, I must do what I can to make him understand that he is worth much more than he is thinking! ... And I also wish to say goodbye to Galfore, and perhaps leave messages for those that I am not able to reach. ... Perhaps a message for Blackfire, as well."
What is the one thing for which you would most like to be remembered after your death?
"Perhaps for the good that we are doing as heroes?"
What three words best describe your personality?
"Friendly, cheerful, and very happy to explore and learn!"
What three words would others probably use to describe you?
"I am hoping some thing similar! Although there have also been words that were not as friendly, I believe that more people would not use those mean words."
If you could, what advice would you, the player, give to your character? (You might even want to speak as if he or she were sitting right here in front of you, and use proper tone so he or she might heed your advice…)
I don't think there really is anything I'd need to give her as advice. I mean, if I really have to say something, probably something like that she should stay how she is and not change only because of some bad experiences. Something like that.

TITLE: On the Precipice
A/N: I just had to write Ichabod’s POV during that scene in s1e13 ‘Bad Blood.’
She'd called him by name. Not ‘Crane’ or the myriad of other nicknames and teasing monikers she'd dubbed him with since they'd met, but ‘Ichabod.’ She’d said his name before, introducing him to others, teasing him about the number of potential offspring he had in his lineage, but it’d never sounded like this.
He felt it in every fiber of his being. He saw now the effectiveness of his own trickery, how not long ago he'd allowed himself to beg her—Abbie—to let him self-sacrifice to protect the world, before the Sin Eater had entered the room. It was only then, with the declarative use of her Christian name, that she'd quieted, adhered to his pleadings, and agreed to his suicidal plan. And he quietly hated himself for it if she'd felt anything like he did at this moment. Yet here they stood again, on another precipice, attempting to avert the impending apocalypse, but this time she was choosing to jump—and he abhorred it. He felt ripped into three: wanting to return—with her—to a world he didn't realize he missed, needing to save his wife as fidelity dictated and he'd sworn he'd do, and desperate to protect Abbie beyond all reason. And now this. His name on her lips shaking the foundations of his soul.
His eyes flashed between the women standing beside him. Both were flawed—the human condition saw to it that they all were—but of the two, some dark corner of his brain taunted, Katrina deserved purgatory in a way Abbie did not. For Katrina had chosen witchcraft, the occult, and an alliance with dark forces, not to mention lying to him since their initial meeting two centuries ago, as a way of life. (Since learning of her devotion to the dark arts, he'd often wondered if she'd used her witchcraft on him, finagled her way into his life because of his role as a Witness, perhaps cast a spell to wile her way into his affections, if it’d ever truly been him who'd fallen in love with her so long ago.) Abbie, on the other hand, had been tortured and hunted by evil as a young child, traumatized by the events and happenings all around her, and had still chosen to fight them head-on her entire life. As she was choosing now. Despite her choice fulfilling evil’s prophecy and in spite of his promise that he’d never turn her over to this hellscape and its master, she demanded he let her do this. Her words said she wanted to face Moloch, that she'd stay behind while he went back to save himself, humanity, the world. That she didn't want to run anymore. That it wasn't his choice.
How grateful he was for that, coward that he was. He didn’t wish to make the choice placed before them, for in it lay betrayal. He’d either disavow the woman he’d once pledged his life to, the only one who knew and understood the life from whence he’d came—the only hold he had to a past he knew, a life he’d built, a time that made sense to him—or the one he’d come to love without pretense, who’d rescued him, claimed fealty to him, honored her word, promised to fight alongside him, regardless of any consequence. She was selfless and brave and good, this diminutive woman who'd somehow come to mean more to him than he'd ever let on. And while he believed she believed her words, he knew what it cost her to speak them, with every molecule fighting against that choice, even as she put on a brave face. Knew, too, she did this for him and Katrina because regardless of the way he felt about his Lieutenant, his words and actions of late had focused solely on the rescue of his wife.
He’d acted a fool, and a blind one to boot, he saw that now. Rescuing Katrina, for all that he hated the idea of her sufferings here, was for him. (And had she suffered? he’d wondered as he’d traipsed through this maze of hell. After two and half centuries, she’d not become one of the numerous monsters he’d witnessed outside. Still had her wits about her, could summon him or Abbie at her whim or call on them in dreams, daily visit a church—a church?! The irony blasted through him at the realization of such a sacred place here, where all others had diminished.—and light a candle for their son, the one she’d never told him about. Suffering seemed relative here, and she appeared no worse the wear for it.) Her secrets, her privilege in this place, they remained a mystery to him.
And all the while, he’d gripped tightly to the vestiges of the Before, when he knew what the world held (or at least thought he had), believed he and Katrina would make a life, a home, a family together after the war. Heavens, look at how he clung to his centuries’ old style, never truly accepting that he’d awoken in an era he couldn’t have imagined in his wildest daydreams. A fool through and through, he realized now, seeing these two women, each of whom played a part in the cleaved eras of his life, stand before him.
In all honesty, though he desired to free Katrina from purgatory, he felt much more beholden to the idealized version of her he'd had before realizing her alliance with the occult and more compelled by the honor-bound responsibility he had as her husband to protect and honor her. Even if that meant rescuing her from her own mistakes.
He stood between the two women: his past and his future.
His future. The thought nearly gutted him. He loved them both, vastly different, confusingly mired, devastatingly torn. One a first love from a time which he belonged to no longer, the other a love that spurred him on with her constant presence and a scorching bond even the fates had deemed impenetrable.
How could he choose anything but himself to leave behind? Then suddenly, without his permission or askance, they made the choice for him, leaving him reeling. Dear God, not Abbie… "You will come back for me. That I know," she claimed, strong as ever, fierce as a lioness. One hundred percent believing in him, even as he failed her with his acceptance of this choice they’d made. Stupid woman. Stupid to have trusted him, to have placed such faith and fealty in an old relic long past his prime. Stupidly brave as she held her composure, lying to his face. As he'd done to her all this time. He couldn't bear the thought of her in this place, of Moloch having unrestrained access to her and her mind, to the horrors she'd face alone. The monster had tracked her for years, biding his time, waiting to slaughter her. She wouldn’t receive the graces Katrina did, likely wouldn’t escape unscathed.
And wouldn’t remain here one second longer than necessary for Katrina to stop War. He swore it on his own life. He saw Katrina watching their exchange out of the corner of his eye, but he couldn’t muster a thought to her sensibilities at this moment. He drew Abbie into his arms, closing his eyes against the roiling emotions threatening his insides. He cupped her head, holding her against him, praying beyond all reason that she'd hold on long enough for them to stop the second horseman and return for her. "Remember our bond," he implored, hoping to bolster her even the slightest bit. Their connection had saved them thus far; he prayed the tether, if by his sheer will and dedication to her alone, would keep her safe. She trembled in his arms, and his heart shattered within his chest. "I'll come back for you," he whispered the promise. She withdrew, and he gripped her arms, imbuing his touch, his expression, his words with all the strength and hope he could deliver to her. "Faith," he fiercely entreated.
Abbie nodded, and then the monster growled at the window, she demanded he go, and he listened—just as he’d promised her—looking back once, twice, before something thrust him out of the same realm as her and she vanished from his sight, leaving his heart broken and bereft.

Is the Ben 10 reboot any good? As someone who watched the original series do you genuinely enjoy it or are you just humoring the kid by watching it with him? I actually wanted to watch it for nostalgia sake but the art style is so off putting 😩 Did you want Alien Force btw? I bet you were totally into Kevin when you were a kid 🤣
Haha yeah I watched Alien Force and the original series 🤣. If by "into", you mean "had a crush on", then yeah. How did you know though 🤣??
When I was 10, I thought 11 year old Kevin was the coolest. And I kinda had a crush on Alien Force Kevin 🤣
The reboot feels more light hearted to me. I can't really comment on the entire series cos I've only watched a few Kevin centric episodes of season 3 (my friend's nephew likes Kevin, so we only watch Kevin episodes)
But I genuinely enjoy watching it 😂! I feel like they handled Kevin really well? He actually acts like he's 11 now. He gets to be a kid, and not just an evil monster
Like, he was super badass in the original series... but I found it really sad that he was turned into a monster and no cared about him? like come on! He's only 11! How could you guys leave him in the Null Void?! He didn't really get a chance to be a kid...
When the original Kevin says he's gonna kill you, I believe him cos he was so spiteful and power hungry. But the reboot Kevin is a good kid! He acts like an 11 year old's definition of a badass 🤣
He's just an edgelord that does bad things to be cool 🤣. So relatable 🤣. And it's nice that everyone in the show acknowledges that he's a kid like Ben too. It's nice seeing him have fun playing laser tag with Ben, or film viral videos cos he wants to be E famous 🤣
He's like a little bro to me now, and I'm so proud of him! He has friends! And he doesn't let anyone tell him what do! He stays true to his own ideals while maintaining his bad guy appeal 😂
My friend's nephew looks up to him. Kevin isn't the best role model... but at least he's teaching him how to be an edgelord 😂
