Review: Maud Horton's Glorious Revenge by Lizzie Pook.
When Maude Horton receives a letter from the British Admiralty informing her of her younger sister’s death, her world is shattered. Bold and daring, Constance had run away from her life in Victorian London two years prior, disguising herself as a boy to board the Makepeace, an expedition vessel bound for the Arctic’s unexplored Northwest Passage. The admiralty claims Constance’s death was a tragic accident, but Maude knows when she is being deceived.
As soon as I read the description of this book I wanted to read it, and I'm so glad I did. The story of Maude as she tries to gain justice for her younger's sister death, Maude Horton's Glorious Revenge is nothing story of glorious as it takes us from Maude's view in London to Jack's/Constance's in Greenland.
From the start of this book the writing really draws you in. Beautifully written and so descriptive on the historic London Maude inhabits, this book almost makes you smell the place (which known London in that time, probably isn't a good idea). The characters are well written and Maude is a fantastic lead as she delves into what happen to her sister. Constance's writings are fantastic and add the drama of this story, building the thrilling part of this book so well.
The ending of this book is perfectly done, the pace being carried by Jack's entries brings you to a brilliant conclusion that leaves you on the edge of your seat, with an epilogue that wraps up the story perfectly.
A fantastic of family, and courage and justice, I'd highly recommend this.

Part Three of rating every ship in this two person fandom by how much I like it + how much I can see it happening:3
(Coen, Jeacen, Sasha, Chrys, and Santiago belong to @bluryy-face0 ) also there are no ship names yet, idk leave recommendations:3
Chrys+Lizzy- the first and ONLY 10/10 overall, they are canon and yes yes, I love tragic schizophrenic alt bi girl and her oblivious himbo bi husband(real) they're also like...the most normal couple and are so Partners In Crime by Set It Off core
Coen+Santiago- 8.5/10 overall "Mom, can we have megafags(hericho)?"
"No we have megafags at home"
Megafags at home:
(/lh, they're actually pretty cute)
Jeacen+Sasha- 8/10 overall, I personally see them as really close friends and I'm pretty sure Sasha is aroace in canon and Jeacen is ace, but idk. Possibly they could have smth like fwb, but overall I just see them as two sad emo pookies
Chrys+Coen- 7.5/10 overall, I see them being exes but still friends without bad blood ngl, as a ship tho? They'd be cute, but I imagine Chrys could possibly overwhelm Coen(that's up for the pook to decide, honestly most of these are hcs based on lore😭😭)
Sasha+Coen+Santiago- 5/10 overall ...hottake, I don't like this ship.😭 I like other poly ships(i:e heconicho) but it's just... awkward, the dynamic is very awkward imo and honestly the whole thing would prob be Coen's idea ngl
Lizzy+Adorestine- 3/10 overall, no. Keep Lizzy like 50 feet away from this woman at all costs for their own goods; they are doomed yuri except it's all Lizzy's fault bc she just like her daddy Jericho fr💪(always gotta ruin her happy relationships)

Heya rose! just wanted to head on and ask some lil facts about your afton family if you wanna ofc!
Hi, pooks!
I sadly don't have much rn since I'm changing some stuff around, but here's some that you may or may not know
- Mrs. Afton (Roselle) is from Spain. She moved to Utah when she was young. William was born in Britain and also moved to Utah when he was young.
- I have an OC that's an Afton. Call me cringe, but she's one of my first OCs I ever made, and she sorta stuck around. Her name's Lilian Maria Afton, and she possessed Lolbit and currently possesses Eclipse.
- My Eclipse has no specified gender and they go by anything, really. They were the first Eclipse model/design before the Sun and Moon one.
- The crying child's full name is Evan Garrett Afton, and Lizzys' full name is Elizabeth Abigail Afton (movie refs)
- Both Lily and Mike used the last name Schmidt for false IDs. Schmidt is Roselles maiden name.
- Ennard is his own animatronic, but his body was used to help all the Funtimes escape since he can sneak around easier, considering he's mostly wires. He is also possessed by one of the 4 tormentors (Bonnie Mask Bully). He also later possesses Montgomery Gator.
That's all I got for now that's finalized (hopefully). If I ever post my FNAF stuff on here, I'll explain more later

Book Review: Moonlight and the Pearler's Daughter by Lizzie Pook
Tumblr media
Moonlight and the Pearler's Daughter is an atmospheric, feminist piece of historical fiction that takes readers on a journey through 19th century Western Australia. The story follows Eliza Brightwell, a bright and independent 20-year-old woman, as she tries to find answers as to why her father, a pearler by trade, has failed to return home from sea.
Why is he missing? What could have happened? Could it be murder? Mutiny? Extortion? How far will she go to uncover the truth?
As Eliza pushes forward in her search, she'll find all sorts of dark secrets, prejudices, and corruption hidden in and around her home of Bannin Bay.
The book's biggest strength was its evocation of setting and time period, which highlighted the promise and perils of the pearling industry as well as the horrors of British colonial rule in Australia. It was easy to get swept up in the dusty red lands, the sweltering heat; to become entranced by a copse of mangrove trees. The author's descriptive prose oriented the story. Made it feel like I was right there, in the thick of it, hearing the loud, sharp squawk of a cockatoo or tasting the salty turquoise sting of the sea.
Eliza was a compelling enough character. I liked how she shirked societal conventions of the day, that she knew her own mind, that she was determined - almost beyond reason - to find her father, but I wish we had gotten more about her interior life. I wanted to know more about who she was, what she wanted from life. The kinds of things she liked or found interesting. There was some exploration of that hinted at in journal entries or chronicled in her own observations, but mostly the story was focused on the mystery aspect with her father.
The romantic subplot was trifling too, I thought. Unnecessary. Could have been done away with altogether without souring or spoiling anything.
Despite a few minor qualms, I enjoyed reading this. Not only was it meticulously researched but it gave me insight on things, like pearling in Australia, that I had no concept of beforehand and that's always neat. I love any excuse to learn something new. So kudos!
Special thanks to NetGalley and Simon and Schuster for the complimentary copy in exchange for my review.

Moonlight and the Pearler’s Daughter by Lizzie Pook
Great historical fiction book, and one of the best and most interesting stories I have read in a while. I appreciated the respect for the aboriginal peoples as this book was set in the 1800s in Australia. The story follows a young woman whose family moved to an area in Australia that caters to pearl divers, and her father began a pearl diving company with his brother and became successful. However, the book begins with her father not returning from a foray out pearling, and she decides to go find him. The character development was amazing, the story seemed to be very well-researched, and the descriptions were wonderful and didn't half make me want to travel immediately to Australia despite the heat. I highly recommend this book to anyone who wants something different - because this definitely was not like anything I had ever read before and I certainly mean that in a good way. Go get it as soon as it's released.
This ebook was provided by NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

Moonlight and the Pearler's Daughter Review
Tumblr media
I received an advanced reader copy of Moonlight and the Pearler’s Daughter by Lizzie Pook from Netgalley in exchange for a review. This book comes out on 3 March 2022 and I will absolutely be purchasing a finished copy for future re-reads. I am also looking forward to seeing the map at the front of the book, which was unfortunately distorted in the e-arc.
I was hoping for a vibe similar to The Mermaid and Mrs. Hancock and it delivered. The story revolves around Eliza Brightwell, the daughter of a prominent pearler in Western Australia in the 1890s searching for her missing father after he has been presumed dead. It feels a little like a historical Winter’s Bone with a The Nightingale twist.
