so, my shepard is earthborn. he's always placed a deep value in the words "i love you" because he has, before kaidan, never had anyone to say them to. telling someone he loves them is the utmost level of vulnerability; it is akin to peeling back his flesh and muscles and seeing all of the flaws carved into his bones.

in london, when he thinks that he may never get to hold kaidan's face in his hands again, when he thinks that he may never again get to feel his breath against his shoulder when he wakes, he cups kaidan's cheek with a gloved hand.

wishes more than anything that his skin was barren so that he could feel the warmth of kaidan's skin beneath his fingertips—but to even have this chance alone is enough.

he holds kaidan gently yet with a firmness that desperately conveys all of the "i love you"s he'd never said; and it seems foolish now, to think that he has never said it. maybe because he was afraid to make it real, to admit that kaidan had somehow managed to squeeze between the cracks in his defenses, to admit that kaidan has him, all of him, vulnerabilities and all.

so he says, "no matter what happens, know that i love you."

and his voice does not waver.

later, when the dust has settled over the debris and the wounds have mostly begun to heal, shepard spends most of his time with kaidan - they're both spectres, still, and they share his apartment on the citadel (as much as they'd love to be back on earth, they're both too busy and too wounded by the sight of the crumbling skylines to stay there for long).

shepard tacks on "i love you" to many of his sentences. it confused kaidan, at first, because he's similar to shepard in that he takes those words very seriously;

but they have not lost their importance to shepard, even if he says it multiple times a day:

"i have to go see the council," he will say as kaidan asks why he's getting up so early. then he will turn and press a gentle kiss to kaidan's temple. "love you. i'll be back soon."

"i'm going to go take a shower," he'll say after watching a vid with kaidan on the couch. then, he'll turn and offer kaidan a soft smile. "love you."

when kaidan eventually asks him why, shepard is quiet for a long time.

then, he brushes his thumb against the back of kaidan's hand.

"in london," he will say, his voice uncharacteristically quiet, "when i said that i loved you, i... i thought of all the times before. times that i should have said it, but didn't."

he falls silent again, his lips pressed together in thought; kaidan does not pressure him. eventually, he says,

"our first i love you felt like goodbye. in that moment, it was... all i could offer you. because i wanted you to know that, since i'd never said it before; i was too afraid."

he then looks kaidan in the eyes. "there are a million things that should've kept us apart. i'm technically living on borrowed time. but i'm not scared anymore, kaidan. of being..." he pauses, searching for the words (vulnerable, kaidan hears, even though shepard doesn't say it), "of us. and i don't want i love you to mean goodbye. i don't want to say goodbye to us. i won't."

Grande smog

L’inquinamento non si vede, il riscaldamento climatico è troppo lento perché le persone percepiscano l’urgenza dei cambiamenti in atto, si diceva fino a qualche tempo fa parlando di quanto fosse difficile comunicare queste tematiche al grande pubblico. E lo è ancora oggi, anche se l’aria irrrespirabile la sentiamo in gola e nei polmoni, e gli eventi climatici estremi sono sempre più frequenti e purtroppo sotto i nostri occhi.

Ma chi governa le nostre città ha l’obbligo di intervenire prima di essere immersi in un fumo spesso come quello di Londra, o vedere ancora i fiumi straripare e travolgere interi paesi.

The Howl Famliy

Another character design for @whererubbermeetstheroad's fic. I could not not do the Howl family when Bailey is so cute and Shepard sounds like a goddamn MENACE.

I was actually super excited to design the Howl family because I had a lot more to work with. Both idea and source material wise (yapping session incoming)

I will be providing only one moodboard this time because a lot of the reference images included members of my own family and old pictures of myself, which I am not comfortable sharing. But here's the general consensus of what I was working with:

So Shepard is based on the Sheriff and Bailey is based on Bolt (headcanons provided by Rubber), but Jack parents are from my own brain!

There's speculation Jack's namesake come from the author of "White Fang", Jack London! So I based his mom off of White Fang herself. London coming from the author, but also being the original owner of the fang necklace Jack wears.

Jean Howl is based on the Wolves from Beauty and the Beast. His namesake comes from the author of the original book: Jeanne-Marie Leprince de Beaumont. While she wasn't the original author of the originally book, she did write the version most of us are familiar with. "Jean" == Masculine version of Jeanne. Although, Joh was a very strong contender.
