"What is your problem?" Eddie huffed, slamming the door to the house with a harsh flick of his wrist, satisfied at how the door frame rattled behind him.

You ignored him, slipping your heels off, hooking them around your finger.

A night out started off fine, excited to reconnect with your friends after your long, long honeymoon.

Until she walked in.

Dianna, a model Eddie had a long history of hookups with. All long legs in a teeny tiny dress, that made their way straight for Eddie. You'd watched him out of the corner of your eye, smug with the feeling that he was going to brush her off, leave her retreating with her tail tucked between her legs.

Only he didn't.

He let her congratulate him. Let her stay and chat, all bright smiles and bubbly conversation. Let her hug him, and even hugged her back.

It was stupid, juvenile, really, but it infuriated you. Enraged you, hurt you, that he'd talk to his ex, be so nice with her- why was he being so nice with her? Your head spun with the worst thoughts, a sick feeling creeping up your throat that you tried your best to swallow down and ignore.

Eddie had come over later, leaning into kiss you, a little confused why you turned, let him kiss your cheek. "You alright?" He asked, brows creasing in concern.

You didn't answer, only a hard glare matched with a tight lipped huff before stomping off to your own friends.

That had started it.

The blow up in the car, on the way home, Eddie tearing through LA traffic furiously, the both of you screaming at the other.

"How the fuck am I supposed to know that you'd be upset by that?" Eddie roared, throwing a hand out behind you in exasperation.

"That I would be upset that you were talking to your ex?" You countered, furiously.

"Dianna is not my ex-"

"-No, she's just someone you used to fuck all the time, and she has your fucking name tatted on her ass!" You screamed, voice amplified and echoing off the high ceilings.

"Oh, come on." Eddie rolled his eyes. "I don't know why you're jealous, alright? You knew all this shit before we got together, which I haven't slept with anyone since we started dating."

"Have you?" You sneered, turning on your barefoot.

Eddie gaped, the room falling silent. "Are you- You're not fucking being serious." Eddie growled. "You're accusing me of cheating on you?" His tone raised, furious, hand pressed into his own chest.

"I don't know, Eddie! I'm asking you!" You shrilled. "With how close you two were tonight, I don't know that I believe you! Letting her all over you? Who the fuck does that?"

"I haven't done shit!" Eddie roared, making you flinch at his tone. His eyes wild, crazed, and not just from the coke. "I have never fucking cheated on you, so don't even say that shit to me! Don't you fucking dare-"

"-I'm not." You take a staggered breath in, trying to keep your own tears in. "I'm not doing this with you right now. I'm going to bed. We can talk in the morning." You held your hand up, turning towards the stairs, leaving Eddie at the bottom, furious in the living room.

Otherworldly Engagement

Jon and Danny are engaged.

Krypton was falling apart. Its the end of their planet.

When Jor-El and Lara were preparing to place Kal-el (Clark) on his ship, one of their projects came online. It's a portal. Out came Clockwork with a deal. Safe passage and a bright future for Kal-el in return, their grandson would be engaged to his ward. As an added bonus, Jor-El and Lara may continue their existence in Clockworks lair but must remain hidden from their son until such a time when their reappearance would not cause disaster to the timeline.

For the parents, it was a no-brainer (sending your child to the unknown and dying yourself or a shady deal that would ensure all your survival)

A deal is made.

And so begins Jor-El and Lara's Netflix and Chilling life in CW's lair. Watching Kal-el (Clark) live his live until Jon was born and until a certain halfa was targeted by the observants.

Danny becomes the Ghost king, his parents accept him, and a giant anti ghost comet is hurtling toward earth that, if not stopped, will cause mass level extinction. The JL big hitters are off world dealing with Darkseid or some other agent of Chaos. *This was the Ancients at work. CW is the conductor*

Amidst the chaos, Phantom and Superboy collide with each other, and Jon decides to help Phantom with his plan. He also got the remaining JL members to help build the intangibility machine with the Fentons.

Long story short. Phantom Planet without the Danny/Sam ending. Jon was there for the reveal (the other JL members were manning different terminals for the machine)

When the dust settles. They become best friends, but Jon is still not revealing his true self, afraid that Danny will no longer think he's cool if he knows he is only half an alien.

He talks to Damian about this and just got called stupid. If he really likes the guy and he knows the others secret identity, then he should too.

Finally, Jon makes up his mind. He's gonna do a reveal to Danny and ask him to be his boyfriend.

Knowing how cool Danny's parents are, he does a reveal to them first, and they are immediately on board with having him as a son-in-law. He asks Damian, Sam,Tucker, and Jazz how to do this.

Their Idea: Picnic on the moon with fireworks

Damian is watching from the Watchtower and is live streaming it to Sam, Tucker, and the Fenton Fam in Fenton Works Living room. It is at this moment that Superman returns with the JL from their deep space mission. He asks who superboy is with, and Damian just says "your future in-law, the Ghost King"

Superman panics, but just as he was about to interrupt the two, he gets tackled by Jor and Lara. "Son, your mother and I love you very much, BUT you are NOT ruining this" says Jor-el. Lara just nodding in the background.

Flash runs to grab popcorn while Dianna, Bruce, Hal, and Jonn sit by a couch made by Hal. Their too tired to do anything since there seems to be no threat.

On the screen, Danny excitedly says yes, and the two share a hug. Floating and spining on the moon.

"Robin, cue fireworks" says Lara.

Shortly after Swift embarked on the Red Tour, a doctored screenshot from a fake tabloid began circulating on Twitter. The headline from Stars Daily, which does not exist, said "Taylor Swift is in a new relationship...but it's not what you expected."

"Country pop singer Taylor Swift has confirmed being in a relationship with Glee star Dianna Agron," the fake article continued. "Lesbi-honest! Right after the rumors were confirmed, the two were spotted out on a dinner date." (The attached photo was from Swift and Agron's dinner at Dominick's in 2012.)

On April 23, 2013, "Skins" actor Dakota Blue Richards tweeted about the rumor: "So apparently Taylor Swift and Dianna Agron are dating. Sorry Brangelina, you just got taken over as the worlds hottest couple."

Neither Swift nor Agron publicly responded to the rumor. But Richards' reaction seemed to increase its virality, and the following day, Agron deleted her Tumblr.

"Thank you friends for following the journey," she wrote in her final post. "But as an old chapter closes, a new chapter begins."

Celestia; we have bloopers all the time, I'd say a lot of the bloopers are so funny especially since the scenes are supposed to be serious

Celestia; of course you can! Okay so like we were filming the Gem and Sausage fight where she was supposed to break sausage out possession, we have to do like five different take for that because Sammy{sausage's actor} kept laughing and swearing and also kept tripping off the edge!

Interviewer; I am ready hear how many times Sammy caused the cast to have to retake a scene today!

Cris; oh that's a hard one cuz I have so many bloopers in mind for like a favourite, but personally I think one of my favorite ones are just like Carson laughing while he was in a scene with ash (Xornoth's/Bratwurst's actor) like they could not look into each other's eyes and play it seriously we'd have to like redo that scene at least 10 or so times until they properly do it cuz every time they look at each other they just straight up start laughing out loud like not even laugh they would fall to their knees laughing and crying on the floor those two are brother-in-law's and I have respect for that but that also means we have to redo the scene like 15 times unusual basis when those two have a scene together

Interviewer; that is an absolute nightmare to live through having to redo 15 takes

Cris; it is, it takes so long o film the cuz those two would lay on the ground and laugh for a solid 20 minutes

Sammy; uuhh, honestly I'd say season 2 when Shelby and supreme meet and they have this elaborate plan to trap Joey but my favorite bloopers were when they were flying in

Interviewer; now why is that?

Sammy; every time we would start the flying scene they would straight up get tangled even after we untangled them when they started to take they got tangled again somehow, so like we had to retake that one 10 second flying motion for like I think it was like 7 or 8 times we had to retake it

Interviewer; unless they did it on purpose they were spitting around in the air

Sammy; that's probably what they did

Ash/Bratwurst's/Xornoth's actor

Ash; there are a load of funny ones, if you're talking personal favorites, then it was when we were setting up ice for Carson's Elsa arc and when he got on the ice he literally slipped face first

Interviewer; he didn't know how to skate?!

prompt #004 -  a golden boy's plea

The concept wasn't foreign to him. Going to the temple, sitting down in front of his father's statue, that was almost a daily ritual to him. So when Chiron mentioned creating pathways, communicating with his father, the son of Apollo had to scoff. What the fuck had he been doing these past few weeks, and why wasn't he getting any answers? It had gotten to the point that he'd decided to avoid the situation all together. While he watched demigod after demigod go to the temple, throwing magical parties, making their prayers and feel heard, feel answered, all Jesse could do was watch. That familiar feeling began to settle in the pit of his stomach. As much as he tried to be good, to be there, to be perfect, that hollow feeling of inadequacy always seemed to pull him down. Why could he watch demigods connect with their parents so easily, and he constantly felt like he was being left on read with his father. Hell, it was story not unlike the one he'd shared with his mother.

It had taken Jesse a while to gather the nerve. It had gotten to the point that he very well might have been the only demigod at camp who hadn't made that 'pathway' yet. Part of him decided to just fuck it off all together, he didn't need his father, he'd gotten this far without him after all. There was another part, a louder part, that just wanted to know why? Why wasn't he good enough? What could he do to prove himself worthy? Was there even a way? Those were the waves of uncertainty, of longing to be the Golden Boy he'd always been expected to be. First as being Dianna Diaz's son, now being the son of Apollo. The weight to live up to that had been crushing, and the fear that he might not every live up to either roles was damn near devastating. He wouldn't leave it at that. He couldn't.

It had been just before sunrise when Jesse entered the amphitheater. It was early enough that he'd appeared to have been alone, the entire came was asleep. While that much wasn't on purpose, he was glad to have the privacy. With a guitar strapped around his back, he looked up toward his father's domain, regarding it warily at first. He wet his lips, "It's me again, Dad," he began with a heavy breath. He didn't know why he'd had such a big pit in his stomach. He'd started many a conversations with the damn statue, saying that same damn thing.

So what was different now? In the back of his head he knew, he knew that this was what would change everything. His final attempt at reaching out to his father. As far as he was concerned his father would either recognize his worth, or he would lose him for good. "I'm supposed to come here and pray to you, open up a connection with you to bring us closer," he let out a tut, "As if I haven't been trying to do just that for the past month. Either you don't care, or you haven't been listening," taking the guitar from around his back, he sat down cross legged and set the instrument in his lap. "I realize… I've been trying to get your attention, to prove to you that I am worthy to be here, that I am your son, and you didn't make a mistake in claiming me." He let his gaze drop for moment, contemplating. "So I figured this time, I'd say what I have to say a little louder."

He began to strum a chord from his guitar, a heavy, minor chord that reverberated gently across the theatre. The melody itself was a somber one at first. It illustrated where his head space had been in relation to his father. A melody of longing, with chords of fear, riffs of waning hope. The the tune lingered for just a moment, before he began to bring in words to it.

"i'll always be outshined by you, it never takes too long no matter what I say or do

i still see your glow till the moment I'm gone."

The notes came smooth, heavy. This wasn't an upbeat song, it was a song from his heart. His mother had always told him while words and speeches could touch a persons mind, nothing could bare your soul the way that music could. He continued to play, going into the second verse, demanding not to be seen as weak, how his own radiance was bright, how he didn't need to kept on the sidelines, that he was worth the faith he had in his father, but he needed to be free. The music seemed to grow louder now, the guitar being amplified by an unseen source, he the end of the song came, and the guitar and his voice seemed to grow louder, more confident.

"i come here bended knee as i try to make you see that i'm everything you think you need, fighting this fight.

"but you're neither friend nor foe and i won't let you let me go because, the one thing that you must know is that i'm my own sunlight"

The final chord rang through the amphitheaters as the sun began to rise over the hills. His voice melted with the guitar in an almost magical swell. His music filled every inch of the stadium just as the sunlight poured in. He wasn't sure if the camp could hear him, but at this point he didn't care. It wasn't about the camp, it wasn't about the expectations put on him by Chiron or Xanthe. It was about him pushing past his insecurities, that darkness, to reach his father. As the note finally faded into a hum, Jesse was left standing there, panting, eyes never once leaving the sky as the sun beamed down on him.

I just listened to the latest episode of and that's what you really missed on Glee. Part 2 of the Darren episode.

Jenna: Somewhere Only We Know is a fan favorite. Darren:  Keane was one of my favorite bands in highschool. I was doing it in LA and I remember I was really weirded out by it because I love this record. I didn't dislike it. I just was this is such a good record. I don't want to tarnish this and this is how I felt on the day we were at that school. I have really sensitive eyes. And they had those giant mirrors. I was melting. (You can tell by looking at the performance.) But the lesson I take away with this is once you make something and it's released to the world it does not belong to you any longer. Whatever experience people have with something that you made belongs to them and their experience.

Kevin: I want to hear when you first started working with Chris because Blaine and Kurt became a worldwide cultural sensation. Darren: I came in with luckily the tools to really appreciate for what I was doing in some way. I just so happen to have a strong and comfortable relationship with queerness itself. I live a very cultural queer life. I felt a huge responsibility but also was like 'Man, I'm glad that it's me because I don't mind talking about this. I don't get skittish.'

I met Chris and I watched him on TV and I know how much people love him. I'm supremely aware any time spent with him be near impossible outside of Glee once the episode is on. I had tickets to go to see Sutton Foster. I just met this person. And he's like a big deal, very recognizable cultural figue at this point. And I say: 'Hey, man. I have an extra ticket to see Sutton Foster tonight. Do you wanna go? My treat. Let's get some dinner, get to know each other a little bit. We have all these scenes coming up and it be nice just to start this relationship in a more personal way than we're doing on set.' And bless his fucking heart he said yes.

Darren: I have never met any from your side. We were two different planets for a long time. I'm on my own show. Different people, different building. By the time I interacted with you, you guys were your own cliques/family. I remember the tour was the first time I spent time with you guys personally. I will never forget walking around Toronto by myself. I remember walking into a bar and Naya and Dianna were having drinks in the back. And at this point I don't really know them. They were like 'come, sit down.' And I remember at the end of that I was like 'so good to meet you guys.'

Darren on the difference of his Glee experience: I'm came in like the 11th hour, but I'm not shooting every day. I'm maybe shooting a day or two and when I do, it's just my shit. If I was there I was doing something. Even on the tour you did 85 % of the show. I park my fucking blazered ass on stage for 10 minutes, do 3 songs and I was out.

What is the feeling that Glee leaves you with? It's such a gleeful experience. I know there are a lot of hairy things that people may think they know happened on the show or project happened on the show. Maybe because I'm a happy idiot, because I can block out that stuff, maybe because I just was at the right place at the right time. I had an A+ experience on that show. I loved every minute, every person truly. I have a wonderful, positive story about every single person individualy.

- Julia is not an actual orphan per se. Her father is dead BUT her mom is alive, however she was sent to prison for the murder of her husband (with the actual culprit being Julia) since she confessed to it to protect her daughter

- Julia would have connection to Kreacher if she was ingame, since he worked at the orphanage she lived in and stole the money she had been saving to buy her mother's freedom from prison, which would lead her to run away from the orphanage and join the manor's game to get the money

- Because of AOM lore drop, Frederick and "Marie Antoinette" would be related

- Jane Doe's real name is actualy Emilia, she was killed by her friends who wanted to steal her jewerly. The reason why her body was never claimed was because their parents thought she had ran away, so they got rid of everything that was related to her and refused to search for her

- Juliette's husband/wife was a soldier who was killed in battle, but Juliette never knew about it so she went to the manor to search for her wife

- Rayssa's father was a mine owner, i imagine him being the owner of "Golden Cave" (where the incident in Norton's backstory happened) because of the lawsuits he had to fight agaisnt after the incident, he commited suicide and their family name was ruined. She would have gone to the manor to search revenge agaisnt the person who caused the incident, since she believed it was something planned

- Henry's obsession with his beauty came especially from the fact that he was always seen by his looks instead of his abilities with other things, this happening even since he was a child, and his parents just fully let people do it while also complimenting him. If it was not for this fucked up space growing up, he might have been actually normal as an adult

- All the paganini siblings were made to represent one of the 7 deadly sins (Angeline - Luxury, Marie Louise - Envy, Giovanni - Sloth, Pietro - Pride, Emmanuel - Wrath) and i also want to make 2 more so we can have all 7

- Dianna would be not only a manor game participant but also a staff at the manor, coming there to get revenge agaisnt ripper as she was the daughter of one of his victims

- Out of all my characters, i think the most likely to survive their game would be Julia, which is pretty funny to think about

- Marie-Antoinette's delusions come especially because of the "doctor" who was treating her, who abused her frequently and constantly threatned to lobotomize her if she didn't "stay in place" while also gaslighting her into only trusting her (Like 4da and 3mil if it was completely toxic with no love at all)

- Due to Angeline's gigantinism, i imagine her having some troubles walking or standing up for long periods of time

I know I've mentioned it before and it's a total crack theory (don’t take this too seriously). But the possible hints that lonnie may be El's bio dad are kind of crazy.

ps: last point explains why I don’t believe Andrew is El’s dad. Long story short- i read all the novels and comics (they contradict the canon show in various plot-significant ways and are probably not canon). And if they wanted to surprise people- Andrew would certainly be a good misdirect. Let’s begin...

background: in s1 We see Hopper with his daughter (who is holding a tiger plushie). And in s3 we see Hopper attack a soviet in a carnival ride which has tiger decor. The ride warns the soviet of a tiger. Then the tiger growls as Hopper yells(aka Hopper is symbolically the ‘tiger’). So like tigers connect to him and his daughter. we even see Hopper’s hairband in the shot (another connection of father and child).

Ok... so what’s my point?

1.well lonnie has many name meanings.one is "lion". We see in s1 el and Will have lion plushies (similar to Sara's tiger plushie). Hopper sees Will's lion plushie and has a flashback of his daughter with her tiger. So... like... cat plushies maybe hint at paternity??!!!

Also Lonnie is lowkey the embodiment of lion-fathers lol...

2. A witness sees el, hopper asks "could it be lonnie's kid?". Witness: "it could have been . yeah that’s (pauses). I mean, yeah could’ve been". Suspish. But maybe nothing...  I know the literal reason for this scene is for Hopper to think El is Will. But it’s still weird verbiage...and also makes you wonder WHY they look so alike.

3. Jane is the feminine form of the name jonathan. But also... Lonnie and Elenor ( they called El this in  s1) have the same name meaning . Coincidence...maybe???

4. Lonnie is known for being a hunter. Teresa/terry (El’s mom) also means “huntress”. El is compared to princess Dianna (wonder woman): Diana is the roman goddess of hunting. Lonnie is also dating cynthia ( Cynthia means “the hunt”and  cynthia is another name for DIANA). So maybe he has a type (woman who have names associated with hunting)- and he had a kid associated with “hunting” too-via the Dianna parallel. I joke.But it’s another weird name parallel. 

5. El's storyline is heavily based on star wars and she's directly paralleled to Luke. Again luke has an estranged opposite-s*x sibling. The duffers are twins - so they prob loved that star wars plot twist that luke and Leia were separated siblings all along. Also them being related could explain their resemblance (and past parallels) . Thor ragnarock was also on the s4 inspo list- thor realizes he had a secret 1/2 sister.

6. Why is Lonnie always associated with yellow flowers?? talked about all the examples here, and the possible symbolism. But... bro in s1 even has a sunflower blanket (Which is also linked to Terry and her daughter El in s2). Also why was a car that looked like the Byers car in the Terry flashback... I want answers XD

7.Lonnie started flirting with joyce despite having a live-in gf (in her 20s) , that was half his age. Would I be surprised if , when younger,  he had an affa*r with a college student while married. Not really. He's at the very least... a d0uche.

8. Lonnie made jonathan hunt a rabbit. Jane/el is associated with rabbits. In s1 when she first escapes Benny's: the song "white rabbit " plays as she runs from her papa. And her room at Terry's is covered in the white rabbit decor (from the alice in Wonderland story).could just be a parallel of lonnie/Brenner being horrible dads. I mean both Brenner and Lonnie tried to make their kids k*ll animals. 

9. Also no I don't think Andrew from the prequel novel is her dad. I read all the novels and comics fyi. The novels and comics constantly contradict the cannon show. Max novel says she met billy a year before s2 and that's when they became stepsiblings : s3 shows they met as little little kids (when billy is like ... 12 at most). And not saying how, but i saw the S4 opening clip- it proves in very plot-significant ways that " 6 & into the fire" st comics are 100% NOT canon. So why do people blindly believe Andrew is her dad, cause the novel? Literally Andrew would be a perfect idea to get people to stop wondering about El's bio dad. 

And if there's foreshadowing for later seasons in the comics/books- it's probably little eastereggs they were told to incorporate . But , regardless, how convenient a random-normal, de*d guy, with no plot relevance (who is never mentioned in the show) is supposed to be her bio dad. And make everyone stop wondering about El's dad. It certainly stopped people from asking questions about el's paternity- i'll give them that. I wouldn't even be surprised if adding Andrew was an intentional misdirect. EVEN I DON’T 100% BELIEVE IN THIS THEORY, but please stop using the st novel as proof against it cause ... like I said it’s the books/ comics don’t really seem canon at all. XD

Why Conflict Drives Story (by Jerry Jenkins)

Life without conflict equals bliss.

My wife and I have been married more than half a century. We’re not only lovers, but we’re also friends. We like each other and look forward to reconnecting every day.

Naturally we don’t agree on everything, but if a disagreement becomes testy, we actually compete to see who can be the first to clear the air.

That’s a beautiful way to live and love—in harmony.

Like most people, in daily life, I try to avoid conflict. I hate confrontation. I like to get along with people, and as a person of faith, I also try to follow the biblical admonition to “be at peace with all” and to consider others better than myself.

And so I repeat, life without conflict equals bliss.

Hearing about a wonderful marriage like Dianna’s and mine may warm your heart, but would you want to read about it?

Not for long, I’m guessing.

I’m also an author, and I know for a fact that a story without conflict bores.

Readers love conflict.

It keeps them on the edge of their seats.

Conflict serves as the engine of fiction. The more the better.

That doesn’t mean you need a world war or even hand-to-hand battles — unless they fit.

Sarcasm, passive-aggressive comments, or personal betrayal can work just as well.

Many different types of conflict can spice up your story.

Any time your story stalls, just inject conflict and watch it come to life.

So the next time your story stalls or seems to fall flat, you may find characters who are agreeing on most everything. Boring!

Have one of them say something nice and cordial, like, “Nice day, isn’t it?”

Then have the other say, “Oh, sure, you’d say that.”

The original character—and your reader—will likely recoil and wonder, Where in the world did that come from?

Pick up the dialogue from there and discover what the problem is. That’s conflict. That creates tension. And that results in page turning.

How to Best Use Conflict

The two types of conflict — internal and external — are self-explanatory.

Internal conflict is a battle with one’s own demons and sense of self-worth.

External conflict is the obstacle or challenge your character faces — what he or she wants or needs, the stakes, and what stands in the way.

Internal and external conflicts naturally often influence each other.

For example, if a mountain climber’s best friend dies in an avalanche (external event), he may struggle to climb again himself.

5 Types of Conflict

1. Man vs. Self: An external event may cause the conflict, but the battle is within.

2. Man vs. Man: The classic Hero vs. Villain.

3. Man vs. Nature: A struggle to survive a hostile or dystopian environment, the elements, animals, or a cataclysm.

4. Man vs. Society: Your protagonist may battle the government, society, authority, or a special interest faction.

5. Man vs. Supernatural: Popular in sci-fi, fantasy, and horror, your characters may face aliens, werewolves, zombies, or wizards.

How to Create Believable Conflict

If success comes too easily for your main character, readers will not be satisfied. Avoid this by asking yourself:

1. What does my protagonist want more than anything?

Make sure the stakes are high enough to carry an entire novel. If your character desperately wants a promotion and doesn’t get it, that can be interesting, but it won’t likely carry a book-length story.

But if he must find a job or lose his house, and perhaps his wife, that’s big.

2. What or who stands in the way?

Loads of obstacles should make success seem almost impossible. Mega-bestselling novelist Dean Koontz advises that everything your character does to try to alleviate his obstacles should make them only worse.

His only caveat is that every escalating challenge should be plausible and not the result of bad luck or coincidence.

3. What personal flaws in my character make success difficult?

Readers can’t relate to perfection. Weaknesses create internal and external conflict and make your character identifiable and accessible to the reader.

4. What internal struggles need to be overcome?

Is he facing fear, battling depression, trying to conquer self-doubt?

5. How will your main character ultimately win?

What will lead to a satisfying conclusion? How will your character grow? What will he learn? This is the way to build in takeaway value for your reader.

Don’t Fear Conflict

Some writers are so averse to personal conflict that they avoid writing about it too. Trust me, that may well serve as the death knell to your publishing prospects.

Anytime your story stalls or feels flat, a lack of conflict is usually the culprit.

An injection of conflict builds the tension needed to keep your readers turning the pages.

Dianna Agron is running late — she’s stuck on the subway. I have no problem believing this because I am on the exact same train a few cars away, as we learn when she sends me a heads-up text. My phone slowly receives a selfie of Agron waving through a grainy train window, face curtained by long light-brown hair, along with another message about how tickled she is that we’re sharing a classic New York experience. And it’s one we continue when we finally make it to The Odeon, the iconic Tribeca bistro. “It's been a staple since the 1980s, which is what I love about this place,” she says in her lilting voice as we mull over the menu. “This is a place that was happening when I was born and didn't even know that it would be waiting for me when I moved to New York City.” We get two dirty martinis and a plate of fries before gleefully cheering to being in our 30s. “I love this time, though,” she adds.

Agron has been thinking a lot about her 30s, and not just because we’re meeting up two weeks before her 37th birthday. Her new movie, Clock, out now on Hulu, is a sci-fi horror film that explores the immense societal pressures women, in particular those without children, face in that decade of their lives. But the film’s messages about making your own choices also resonate within the arc of her career. Agron spent six seasons on the pop culture juggernaut that was Glee — and enduring the intense public scrutiny that came with it — before more recently finding acclaim with a string of indie movies like Shiva Baby and Novitiate. With Clock, Agron pushed herself again. There are big action scenes (hanging from cliffs, elbow-deep gore), as well as dark emotional depths (involving painful family secrets coming to life). “Collected experience really does add up,” she says. “And I think that the life I've lived the last 10 years in some ways has been more magnificent and more challenging than my more formative years.”

Agron never thought she’d try her hand at horror, but the Clock script hit too close to home to resist. She plays Ella, a 30-something who doesn’t want kids but eventually gives into the pressure of prying family and friends and enrolls in an experimental clinical trial, under the leadership of Dr. Simmons (Melora Hardin), that promises to help women who don’t experience having a biological clock. “The moment I turned 30,” Agron says, “the amount of questions that I felt were far too personal — and from truly everyone — just intensified year by year.”

Even for an actor who came up in the Perez Hilton era of celebrity blogging and is used to skirting prying questions, Agron still finds herself surprised sometimes. Just last year, she was on a red carpet at the Tribeca Film Festival promoting the sci-fi drama Acidman when a journalist asked her out of the blue if her mother’s name, Mary, would be “top of the list” for her. “I truly had no idea what she was talking about, so I asked for clarification and she said, ‘The top of your baby list,’” Agron says. “I said, with all of the kindness, ‘You have no idea what my personal journey is. And I'm quite surprised that you asked me that at my workplace when I'm here to discuss a film that I'm in.’” The message didn’t land. “She had no remorse. She just bopped along to the next question.”

Clock only took on more meaning throughout production. Agron was in Texas shooting the last day of principal photography when the draft Supreme Court opinion overturning Roe v. Wade leaked. “It did not feel good, that's for sure,” she says. “But then felt in some ways good that we were making [a movie that speaks] to some of the perils of being a woman and making choices that are more aligned with your own sense of self, as opposed to making choices for other people.” She dips a fry into one of the many condiments we’ve ordered. “All it takes is a film or a piece of journalism [for people] to open their eyes to different experiences that they could never imagine for themselves and have no personal touch points for. As a woman and one who very much loves women and loves the immense and enormous abilities that we have to carry so much, I wish that we had to carry less.”

When writer-director Alexis Jacknow was looking to cast Ella, she knew what she wanted: “It was very important to me that that character just already have a natural, grounded nature, a gravitas to her.” And she knew right away after meeting her that Agron could deliver. “There was absolutely nothing she wouldn’t do,” Jacknow says. “She pushed me, and there was just no hesitation on her part. She showed up every single day, 110%, and gave us everything.”

That is not an exaggeration. During one scene, Ella cracks open eggs into a frying pan and begins to eat them raw with a spoon. Jacknow didn’t want anyone to flaunt food safety guidelines, but Agron thought the only way to sell the scene was to actually do it. “Beef tartare, a whiskey sour,” Agron says, listing all the indulgences with raw ingredients she already enjoys. (There are reasons those are safer than raw eggs, but just go with it.) Jacknow proposed a compromise: Agron could put the raw eggs in her mouth as long as she spat them instead of swallowing. Agron agreed — or at least pretended to. “I winked at our [director of photography] and motioned at him like, ‘Don’t cut,’” she says, laughing. “I go to pick up the egg, I swallow it and go to take another bite. And I just hear, ‘Dianna, what the f*ck?!’”

Agron hasn’t always felt such autonomy in her career. When she was in her early twenties, she booked a role in a “big studio film” that, though ultimately a positive experience, involved an eye-opening screen test. “It was like, ‘We don’t like her hair like that, we need her to be more girly. We don’t like those clothes,’” she recalls. “I kept getting moved off set, changed, put back on stage, taken off again. I didn’t feel that I had any say in the matter, even if I had suggested something nicely. I was just a product at that point.”

Glee did not exactly help things. Agron says she was the last person cast for the show and describes getting the job as nothing short of fate. She grew up watching musicals with her mother in hotels on account of her father’s job as a manager at Hyatt. “Look, I moved to Los Angeles and I set out to find a musical. They were my absolute bread and butter. I told anybody that would listen to me, ‘I really want to do a musical,’” she says. “And [agents] were like, ‘No, try to be on Broadway.’ I just had this staunch faith that I was meant to be in Los Angeles and I would find a musical. And then it happened.”

But while she credits the show with changing her life, the show’s explosive popularity tested her boundaries. “There was a moment in time where there was not only a lack of acknowledgement in respect to personal space, there have been times where I've been put in a headlock and kissed on a plane. There have been times where mothers were grabbing you by the arm to meet and take a photo with their child,” Agron says. “There were so many personal attacks in a way that are just truly not what you do to a human. That feels specific to that time and that intensity of the feelings that people were feeling watching the show.”

So she moved to New York in 2016, eager to escape Los Angeles and its “predatory nature of people with lenses down there that just doesn’t exist in the same way in other places.” For a few years, she split her time between London — from 2016 to 2020, Agron was married to Winston Marshall of British folk-rock group Mumford & Sons — but now calls New York “my only home.” “Following my personal life is really not going to yield anything that interesting,” Agron says of public attention. And it’s true, the few times I tactfully (I hope) bring up topics that might lead Agron to open up about other aspects of her personal life, she gently deflects them. It’s clear she’s figured out a way to maintain her privacy while still being incredibly personal in the context of her work.

In New York, she’s able to follow her muse more freely. She’s reconnected with music through a string of residencies at the famed Café Carlyle, where she’s performed jazz standards and ‘60s covers. She served as a producer on Acidman and would like to do more behind-the-scenes work. And she’s relishing the chance to be a “waving the Jewish flag” kind of actor, choosing projects like Shiva Baby and As They Made Us that let her honor and explore her heritage. “I went to Jewish weekend school and Wednesday school for my entire upbringing up until my Bat Mitzvah and spent a lot of time with Holocaust survivors,” she says. “So it was a weird experience to then have many people say [in Hollywood], ‘You don’t look Jewish.’ It is weird to have somebody deny you your own personal experience.”

Next, she’ll make her return to television with The Chosen One, a multilingual adaptation of Mark Millar’s American Jesus comic book that follows a 12-year-old boy who gains the biblical powers of Jesus after a freak accident. She’s bonded with the younger actors on the show who have asked her for career advice — a full-circle moment for the now bonafide industry veteran. They’ve even watched Glee and marveled to Agron about how young she looks and seems. Her response? “I am!” she says, laughing.

By this point, our martini glasses have long been empty. Neither of us want to brave the train again, so Agron walks me up the street and, like a true New Yorker, gives me directions with a McNally Jackson tote slung over her shoulder. Riveting and charming. I loved the art - such a way with fluid space. A great story!

The Goblin Emperor by Katherine Addison

I loved this. Fucking politically convoluted and consonant packed names, but wow, so deeply emotional and desperately fascinating. Definitely recommend!

Pageboy by Elliot Page

Really open and moving, sometimes horrifying and too often relatable. I now aspire to their grace when reflecting on my own past selves.

Monstrous: A Transracial Adoption Story by Sarah Myer

Viscerally powerful. A deeply painful story told with clarity and hope, drawn vibrantly. I ached reading this, as another person who turned their (in my case mostly queer stuff) confusion on themself. I truly appreciate this story being shared.

In Limbo by Deb JJ Lee

Really good. Great art, with layers and density of story-telling. I am going to be chewing on this one for a bit.

In Transit: Being Non-Binary in a World of Dichotomies by Dianna E. Anderson

Truly excellent. A clear and well laid out exploration of where we are as nonbinary in our very specific snapshot of the world right now. A very good resource for any western wasp open to not being a bigot.

Chorus of Mushrooms by Hiromi Goto

An interwoven masterpiece. I couldn't stop thinking about this book when I wasn't reading and I know I'll be turning it over and over again finding new facets and puzzles for a long time. Hard recommend.

I Want to be a Wall, vol 1 by Honami Shirono

I absolutely thoroughly enjoyed this. Immediately went to procure the second. Thrilled to have read this!

Blue Giant Omnibus vols 5-6 (and 7-8 and 9-10 all in one sitting fucking amazing series tbh) by Shinichi Ishizuka

Reading this manga makes me so happy.
