random question, but in the english version of the tartar fight, pearl says something like "Blowing out my voice is a small price to pay for saving the world!" but no matter where i look, i can't seem to find anything like that in the jp version. i can't shake the feeling that i've missed something…

what do we know about hime's senpai cannon in the jp version? was ‘blowing out my voice’ just an invention of the localization team?

ignore the youtube loading bar this is the JP of the 'blowing out my voice' line, she's saying something like '...got it. ill give my voice if it means saving the world!' so its not really that different.

however, what's notably different is what comes before this.

in the english version, marina instructs pearl to warm up her vocal chords. in JP, marina tells her to build up emotional energy/excitement/hype (テンション） to use her special. afterwards as well, just before pulling out the princess cannon, instead of saying "vocal chords ready!" she says something like "hype to the max!" to announce that her special is ready. during the time when you ink the statue, if you look up at the helicopter, you can see pearl hopping from side to side. again, this isnt her warming up her vocal chords, but rather charging up her special! it's a small change, but it leaves out a neat piece of info about inkling/octoling biology: specials are directly linked to emotional energy! this info pops up here and there in JP, like in splatfest dialogue, but in english not so much.

the art of splatoon book mentions it, but the way its worded makes it seem like it only applies to inkzooka. i looked at the JP text for this tho and i remember that this translation being a little weird and the jp text not implying that its only inkzooka that uses that kind of ink.

this art also shows the link between specials and emotions, pearl getting so upset over losing in smash that she charges her special LOL

i assume the lines were changed in localization for the sake of story flow and simplicity. they hadn't really been making those specials=emotional energy references in the english dialogue before, so it wouldn't make sense to start then. it is what it is i guess.

Timestamps that are canonically in the game are written red while headcanon timestamps are written in blue

Date format is solenear.cycle (SSSS.CCC)

SOLENEAR IS A MADE UP TIME UNIT

I made solenear 20 years because 20 years is roughly 1040 weeks which is close to 999 weeks/cycles

This is assuming all RW creatures live WAY longer than normal creatures or just scaled for convinience

Again this is all speculations and headcanons

Solenear 1400 - 1500

[1404] Void Fluid revolution happened in roughly 1400 because Moon said her creators' ancestors were the one who started it. [Vanilla_Subterranean_Teal Pearl]

[1560] I assume triple affirmative was after mass ascension as a headcanon just to make things easier since there's nothing on this (unless i missed something)

[1654] I assume that Sig started Hunter's creation when Moon resorted to forced broadcast because then he knew Moon is in really bad conditions

Cycle

One cycle is one normal week that consists of 7 days

Each day the rain increases in duration and intensity to the point it takes up the entire day or becomes strong enough to kill

So creatures CAN live through rain and make it to the next day until the rain becomes too strong to ignore and be forced to hibernate

Rain resets each cycle

Iirc your rain counter lights up when you're halfway in a cycle. I imagine this is when the rain starts to hurt

Tremors happen when the next rain will DEFINITELY kill

Mostly out of curiosity, what's your preferred theory on how reincarnation works in Rain World?

I personally lean towards the first two options I listed because they break the least other things (like evolution) but i've included revival as well since I've seen it a fair bit. I'm not aware of any other theories so I'm sorry if i've missed some obvious ones out! If a lot of people write 'other' I'll redo the poll.

1. Timeline Fracture: after a creature dies it wakes up at some point before it died in a new timeline. It remains the same individual as it was before. The creature stays dead in the original timeline. This is the most literal interpretation of the games mechanics combined with lore.

2. Classic Reincarnation: after a creature dies it is born in a new body of the same or a different species in the same timeline. This theory is more in line with the spiritual inspirations behind the game's lore.

3. Revival: After a creature dies, it wakes up again as the same individual in the same timeline at a different point in time and/or a different place.

Agent 3/Captain 3 Mental State

Do y'all ever just think about how Agent 3 might actually have a different kind of problem mentally- like, I see a lot of people always talking about the brainwashing and the fighting Octavio and the Octarians as their "flaw/trauma to over come" and dont get me wrong I love these flaws in their character! But I've just been thinking-

What about a hero complex? I mean, it might be typical, but Agent 3 has been working for the New Squidbeak Splatoon ever since they where about 14, they've been put in death situations over and over again- so what if they tie in their worth to their abilities? To what they can bring to the table-

Yet every couple of years, a new agent, a new person who did what they did all those years ago, but...better at times, Agent 4 (that one oc) saved the great zap fish, beat Octavio, and they did it while fighting Callie, and now Captain 3 has been- basically replaced by Neo 3, who fought Octavio, and a bear in literally space! Captain 3s achievements slowly pale more in comparison, and Agent 8 went through everything they went through in heels

The rest of the squidbeak splatoon is similar, Callie and Marie are literally idols and the original agents of the New Squid beak splatoon, Marina is just Marina, smart with technology and good at musician and paved the way for octolings to enter inkling society, Pearl is practically a princess with the voice of a torpedo, deep cut isn't technically part of the squid beak splatoon, but they are also idols-

All to say...Captain 3 might feel the need to prove themselves, they did take up the spot of their beloved Gramps, and even if he is a bit of a nut job, he was a literal War Hero and legend, Captain 3 is in the shadow of so many great people- insecurity complex might be their new dearest friend!

Anyways, this was just a bit of a character study using nothing but my tired imagination- give me your thoughts and feed back please and thank yous!

See the thing is I don’t think any of the Evo squad walked away from Evo as watchers except Grian…but none of them walked away unchanged. And a lot of what changed them was the Watchers and so that left it’s mark.

Like, Jimmy as the Canary is obvious. One of the first on the server and the last to leave and now doomed to be the first to fall forever.

Martyn is the one who escaped. Or so it seems. But something is off and it’s almost like he’s haunted. Or maybe hunted.

Netty…Netty is like Jimmy. She was there on day one and she preceded him off the server by fractions of seconds when it finally died. She saw up close what the Watchers are made of and the power they wield. A specific flavor of magic that she got her hands on and refused to release. Martyn is lost in the code. Netty walks through it.

BigB and Pearl… It’s no coincidence that they became the Nosy Neighbors and were Always Watching. They aren’t Watchers. Not really. But they See things Players aren’t meant to see. And sometimes they can do more than See. Sometimes BigB can speak and be spoken to by entities other than Players, and sometimes Pearl can walk where Players aren’t supposed to.

And they all underwent some physical changes too. Jimmy and Pearl’s were the most noticeable; the changing colors of their wings, but they were not the only ones.
