okay so i've been listening to the dorohedoro manga soundtrack for a while now, and my morning has been a little hectic so i decided to just ramble about all the songs and what/who i associate them with, and also which songs from the anime ost they remind me of (since the anime ost is very much inspired from the manga ost)
WARNING: DIABOLICAL LEVEL OF YAPPING BELLOW, PROCEED WITH CAUTION!!!!
you can listen to the songs Here if you haven't, and i'll be going by this order, since thats the official one
Redacted, Recalcitrant, Repressed - khost: this one in my head is literally curse/risu theme and you cannot convince me otherwise Ever. Man Inside The Mouth from the anime ost is im pretty sure inspired from this song too so it All just makes sense. also the title itself reminds me of risu and the way he is and whatnot (im so shit at explaining good lird) also this is me just being insane but i think the voice of the guy singing KINDA fits risu more (the deeper more monstrous voice sounds like curse in my head too), like i love his actual voice too but when i read the manga i definitely dont imagine him with it i expected something more raspy(?), meanwhile aikawa being the one with the smoother voice (his raspy voice fits too giving that Kaiman and yadda yadda) Dont ever let me talk abt risu drhdr bro i dont stfu
Blaka Smoko - VOODOOM: i love this song so much but kai's stupid fucking face pops up in my head when i listen to it and i DONT KNOW HOW TO DEAL WITH IT!!! though yeah uh this is pretty much either his song or the cross eyes in general since the lyrics are "i sell black smoke"..though the deranged laugh really reminds me of him solely. imagine a version of the drhdr manga where black smoke is like weed and they smoke that shit and get high i Think thats rlly funny i dunno what else to say tbh i think me associating the song w kai is preventing me from having too many thoughts about it. However i hope when he like shows up fr (not just in flashbacks) the anime ost makes a remix of this song cuz it genuinely fits (also i just love how this song directly mentions nikaido and kaiman, although a bit nonsensical given the context)
Dorohedoro Zombie Slushi - Candie Hank: im so certain 1000手観音 and another song (i cant remember which one) from the anime ost sampled from this one lmfao. anyway this one just reminds me of zombie ebisu, or ebisu in general. not even like living dead day, literally just zombie ebisu. its probably the vocals tbh, someone in a youtube comment was complaining abt them and another person replied "just imagine ebisu singing it" and i cant get it out of my head now. i can totally see her sing this song, especially knowing shes canonically interested in the manga ost album  (you can see her read the songs of it while checking it out in like episode 4? i think? the one where they follow doll risu around and end up in some cheap clothing store)
Eating food and fighting Wizards - Shitwife: this one makes me very nostalgic, i like how its one of the few songs that isnt just pure nonsensical chaos. like i love those too, infact im bummed out the anime ost doesnt have more chaotic songs given the manga is literally incomprehensible sometimes, but i like how this song kinda shows the more coherent and cheerful side of the story. of course this is just kaiman theme to me, i mean the title and all. i think kaiman would really like this song, he would def listen to it. it also reminds me of that scene where him and nikaido are driving in their motorcycles, it gives the vibe of a drive in the middle of the night to me anyway, not much to say for this one too, i just think its really nice (also the drums go crazy hard)
Enter the Hole - NAH: lovely magic predecessor LOL. perfect for me honestly cuz lovely magic is my fav song from the anime soundtrack. This one just reminds me of hole, i dunno. the brief ethereal part reminds me of the past of the hole though, before the lake of refuse was created (i forgot what they called that shit in the official translation forgive me..lake of refuse sounds cooler either way). thats all tbh
She is a devil - Hanali: devil nikaido theme song what can i say...i literally want this song beat for beat to play at the scene where nikaido grows her devil tail and gets devil high (if they even animate season 2 that far) either that or when theyre selling gyoza at the department store and she goes devil high again and starts beating ass. its so perfect for those scenes also i like to think the distorted singing at the very beginning is like what humans hear when a devil sings, i know it should be more ear bleeding giving the reaction everyone has in canon but whateva!!! also also i like to imagine nikaido was probably hearing something similar while her tail was growing and she was going crazy, i think maybe hearing the singing of devils in your head while slowly turning into one is a cool idea
LIZARD HEAD - Dr. Das: i cant lie this ones...a little boring for me. like the beat is cool and all, but i think this is the one song i have the least to say abt. to reference another youtube comment, they said smth abt imagining kaiman fucking around in hole to this song, and yeah. i see it. i think if the anime animates that little bonus(?) comic abt how kaiman spends his day in hole, they should use smth similar to this song
Transformations - Shackleton: ok i lied this is the one i have to say least about. i dont mind 10+ minute songs, but damn this ones even more boring to me. the pissing sounds arent helping either LOL. though i think if they had to play this song somewhere, or a variation of it, maybe it fits best at the part where kawajiri is making nikaido do the devil exam in his house or whatever...idk....
Dorohedoro - Igorrr: ALRIGHT BACK TO YAPPING. this song is so fucking good, dare i say its my favorite of the whole ost. and im not the only one, everyone seems to love this one. its literally just TIC TOC predecessor but even better. the classical music and opera singing inserted into this absolute chaos is insane and i cant think of a song that fits shin more honestly. like this is literally shin theme. it perfectly mixes his calm and rational self with the deranged outbursts he has. ive heard people say shin is a boring character and i genuinely cant wrap my head around it like HELLO...not only is his design just cool as fuck, but he has such interesting personality? my boy went through absolute hell and grew up from an aggressive and snarky kid to a calm and if i may say, empathetic guy. like he cares about the people around him, he was carrying three guys (one with his fucking mouth mind you) that passed out because of the rain flooding the underground basement. he refuses to kill people who are weak with magic, and generally doesnt really like going on killing sprees unless its a life or death situation (which since kid has made him go crazy, i like to think its probably cuz it increases his heartbeat and being a human+sorcerer maybe doubles the adrenaline this way). also the way he has inhumanely high pain tolerance, he can have his guts splattered on the ground and still manage to walk, to the point it even weirds EN out. like you gotta be some freak to get en concerned for you (or be kikurage lol). sorry this turned into a shin rant more than the song itself, i just cant believe so many people dont see how cool shin is. like hes not even my most favorite character but i will protect all the drhdr characters i like (which is most of them). anyway moving on
The Hole - Ghengis: alot of ppl say they think of hole (the place) when they listen to this song, but me personally?this song screams hole the entity, and artificial devil kai. like this song FEELS like its oozing with the sludge and that feeling every sorcerer that gets in contact with hole "magic" feels. i like to think the headaches they get is equivalent to the beat of the song LOLL. like just super loud and painful pulsing headache that can leave you paralyzed on the ground. anyway, i dont have that much to say, i just want this song to play at the central department store arc, OR. when artificial devil kai is first shown thas all
Don't Think, Just Kill - Roly Porter: i lied again this is the one i have least to say about. sorry. literally my only thoughts are that one of the songs playing during the living dead day episode is inspired by it but i frogor which one
Kaimans Head - Dead Fader: to compensate the fact i mightve lied once again im gonna ramble about something mildly related. so the one youtube upload i found of this song uses this one fucking risu fanart that legit makes me shit my pants. its honest to god the scariest freaking fanart ive seen of a character i like. its not like Shiver me timbers scary, its just so unsettling to me, like WHO COOKED THIS UP. WHO DREW THIS. i know hayashida would love it. she wishes she made risu this scary and not the catboy babygirl beautiful princess with a disorder she created (/J). anyway uh, this song goes pretty hard, i like it, i just dont have much to way besides that i like the beat maybe. also heres link to the youtube upload with the picture if u wanna know what im talkin abt
Radio 538 - Dow Jones Brotherhood: because the first time i listened to the songs was on youtube, i found this song pretty much last and uh. i dunno its cool! for some reason it reminds me of the cross eyes? ive no clue why it just does. it reminds me specifically of how all of them are basically just worshipping some guy half (if not most) of them havent even seen the face of. i like how the whole thing is basically just a cult. people built statues of the boss, tattooed his face on their hands so they never forget it, And the elites...oh those poor little guys. closest to the boss and got psychologically tortured with killing thousands of sorcerers daily and left to deal with the incomprehensible shit their boss does, while slowly building suspicion and disgust towards him, but unable to do anything because of how far theyve gone into this. like can you imagine how miserable dokuga and tetsujo must feel knowing their devotion to kai led to all their friends killed. id just die bro this is so fucked... anyway, kewl song👍 i love the cross eye elites
Stay down zombies! - Ed Cox: i honestly love how lowkey dramatic this one is. ALSO the accordion tune from el corazon is im pretty sure taken from this one! which makes two shin references yippee!!! i like how this one kinda mixes calm music with breakcore (do not erm akshually me on this one i dont care), just like how igorrr does. i dunno its just a cool song, though PERSONALLY i dont think it fits living dead day, it reminds me more of that scene where shin remembers his mothers death, and then slowly turns into a zombie. it gives off that vibe giving how the song progresses from dramatic and a bit somber, while the beat starts creeping in, accompanied by the accordion that i literally will never not associate w shin in general
ANYWAY WOW THATS ALL!!!! if even one person bothered to read all this, thank you. i love yapping about dorohedoro i love silly manga about a bunch of freaks and freak stuff and i am obsessed with hayashidas taste in music, knowing she picked all those artists cuz she likes their music makes absolute sense considering the kind of art she makes. i love you q hayashida im your biggest fan. also if you notice any grammatical errors pls remember english is not only my second language, but i also barely slept last night so that's my excuse

Findjackwalten 07/14/23 Update Walkthrough
Last night Findjackwalten updated! We've got one page update and two new pages. Let's start:
Findjackwalten.com
Tumblr media
Our main page has updated! Jack and Rose's pictures are gone, and the whole page is greyed out now as opposed to being red. The shutdown text has changed to read "You just couldn't stay home, could you?". The play button here still works, with all new audio. It's a car radio, first it's an afternoon weather report, then just some talk radio intermission, and then it's music. There's also car noise, tires on asphalt, chair squeaks, turn signal, and general Car Creaking.
I've already seen some people theorize that this is audio from Felix's drive home after the crash, but that doesn't make a lot of sense to me since that's already what Guilty is. Feels redundant, as much as I love the idea of Felix driving home listening to Yummy Yummy Yummy by Ohio Express.
Findjackwalten.com/martinguaridasecretanoentrar
Tumblr media
This page's URL and title is in Spanish. It just means "Martin secret lair do not enter" and the title "q pasa tia" in this context is like, "whats up, girl?". Kinda gossipy. Meant to invoke a vibe that you're being let in on a secret.
The top of this page reads "92%", referring probably to the percentage of TWF4 that is completed. The rest of the page contains "3 funny walten facts" Which are:
"Bon the rabbit was originally called Bon the Dancing Hare by Jack, ultimately Felix vouched against that because Rabbit sounds friendlier."
This is so fun to me! I did always think Bon was pretty hare-like. Funny that Jack wanted Bon to be a Jackrabbit. Also I can't believe "Bon The Dancing Rabbit" is still real. It's been so long since I've heard anybody call him that I kinda figured it was retconned.
"During the late 70s, BSI expanded further than restaurant chains, the showstoppers became famous for way different products such as random merch, plushies, furniture, toys, watches, bed sheets, lanterns, masks, lamps, toilet seats. BSI most succesful product was "Showstopper's Comedy Extravaganza", a 1977 animated TV show that ran for 3 seasons and was cancelled in the 1979's to make room for a "bigger project". it is unknown what was the cause for BSI to milk the showstopper franchise to that extent, what was the money for?"
This is something we sorta already knew? Relocate Project implied this sort of thing But I guess we didn't really know how successful their merch ventures were until now. Turns out, they were pretty successful! The "Showstopper's Comedy Extravaganza" thing is crazy to me though, three seasons? That 'what was the money for?' comment is also very ominous. It makes me think of the planned relaunch of Bon's Burgers but considering how vague the comment is and how the Bon's Burgers relaunch was something we already knew about, I'm wondering if it's something else.
"Sophie lived on the back of a meat store for the better part of 3 years, she managed."
How do I even comment on this. This is just so fucked. It makes me sick to my stomach. She was homeless for three years? Homeless? For three years? As a teenager? I feel like i'm undergoing hitherto unexperienced Sophie Emotions. What the hell do I even say.
Findjackwalten.com/btscene
Tumblr media
Just a whole page of behind the scenes stuff! This is also hard to comment on, really. It'd be easiest if you just went and looked at everything yourself.
There's a little play button here with Anything Goes by Cole Porter, but I think it's been edited to sound more echo-y. Like it's being played in a big empty room, but also like the next room over? I've listened to a few versions of this song before but none that sound quite like this. This is also the song that's referenced lyrically in the new years 2022 version of /investigation1, with this bit of writing:
Tumblr media
A decent bit of the stuff on this page is from the old Patreon, but not all of it, or even like, half of it. And some stuff (like the blue and purple Felix drawing) is old concept art that had been shared in the Discord server before.

@duelingdestiny tagged me in a post that said:
🎶✨when u get this u have to put 5 songs u actually listen to, publish. then, send this ask to 10 of your favorite followers (non-negotiable, positivity is cool) 🎶✨
OOC: This will be interesting... I was tagged in this two years ago and this has been sitting in my drafts for all of this time. Finally getting this done today. Sorry this took an eternity. Haha. The song titles all are YouTube links to the songs.
1: Bye Bye Liar (the 2024 mix) [mashup] by JustinBeats (they made the mashup, but obviously original credits go to Britney Spears and *N Sync) - As millennial trash, I am a sucker for 2000s era pop. Somehow, this person was able to mesh Britney's "Liar" with "Bye Bye Bye" that I ended up liking this version more than her original version of the song. It just works so damn well. This mashup's been on shameless repeat for days.
2: Hitamuki by Super Beaver - I love most of the OP/EDs, but I keep coming back to this one for some reason. I think the OP animation is one of my favorites of all of the openings, and it's for a season I really enjoy. Not to mention, the song is just a bop in general.
3: Death of Me by SAINT PHNX - I've been listening to it a ton lately because I need to edit with it for an upcoming anime con project. I like the dark themes in the lyrics and the fast pace of the song just makes it slap.
4: Armada by Visions of Atlantis - Here's the obligatory symphonic metal entry that I have to put on every music list. I'm also symphonic metal trash (Nightwish and Within Temptation are my main biases). This band mixes symphonic metal with pirate metal. Yeah, metal themed around being pirates. How can you not love that? It gives me big pirate AU muse for Bakugou.
5: Star by LOONA - This is my obligatory K-Pop entry. I love K-Pop. I'm one of those hipster K-Pop fans who've liked it since the early 2000s before it took over the world. I actually heard this song in the store one day and went "wow, this sounds like a K-Pop group" and looked it up by the lyrics. When I found the song, I immediately had to download it. It's such a cute song and gives me TodoBaku vibes (mainly from Shouto's POV). I usually tend to like the original Korean version of a song more when I hear it (The original Korean version of this song is called "Voice"), but the lyrics for the English version stuck with me more.
Anything by BoA, SHINee, Ayumi Hamasaki, Utada Hikaru, Nightwish, Within Temptation, Evanescence, and Do As Infinity are also in my top playlists. My music tastes are... all over the place.

Moana medley — VoicePlay music video
youtube
Combining the powerhouses of Disney animation and writer Lin-Manuel Miranda was almost guaranteed to produce a hit movie in Moana. So it was no surprise that these former theme park kids loved it, and wanted to put their own spin on those catchy tunes. With a stroke of good timing and a social media boost, this medley became a bit of a runaway hit for VoicePlay, as well.
Details:
title: Moana medley (feat. Rachel Potter)
original songs / performers: "Where You Are"; [0:56] "How Far I'll Go"; [1:56] "You're Welcome"; [3:04] "Shiny"; [4:04] "Know Who You Are"; [4:47] "How Far I'll Go (reprise)"; [5:08] "We Know the Way" by the cast of Moana (2016)
written by: Lin-Manuel Miranda, Mark Mancina, & Opetaia Foa'i
arranged by: Layne Stein & Hannah Juliano
release date: 27 July 2017 17 August 2017
My favorite bits:
Layne's bouncy opening percussion line
everyone's baffled tone on "The what?!" 🥥
Rachel's bright, soaring lead vocals (No wonder she was a theme park princess for so many years.)
Earl's fantastic braggadocio as Maui 💪
Layne spitting bars and blending it right back into his beatboxing
the stacatto harmony lines leading into "Shiny"
Geoff's laid back preening as Tamatoa 🦀
the gentle, solemn tone of "Know Who You Are", enhanced by the lighting change
Rachel's fantastic belt on the final ♫ "We know the waaay!" ♫
the shenanigans in the outro
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Trivia:
According to Layne, the decision to do this medley was one of VoicePlay's least contentious. He suggested it, and the other guys all agreed. Usually, there's at least a little hesitation or dissent.
Everyone's wardrobe was purchased from The Gap, because Layne wanted the aesthetic of the video to resemble the clothing store's fun, carefree commercials. (They all look so comfy.)
Eli lip syncs to the bass line for part of "Shiny", but the vocals are actually Geoff on a second track. (He can and does cover the occasional bass part during live performances, though.)
The public release of this video was delayed by three weeks so that it could premiere on Yahoo! Music, which exposed VoicePlay to a much broader audience. It was also featured in an article on the Yahoo! Entertainment blog.
Tumblr media
The Facebook upload reached 20 million views in less than a week, and 40 million in just five months. (Based on social media comments, a lot of those views were kids and their parents watching repeatedly.)
It took a little longer on YouTube, but they reached 10 million views there in seven months.
Constructing the set involved Earl moving "half a ton of sand" twice. Good thing he's got those big muscles. 💪
Since Rachel lives in Nashville, they scheduled filming of both this video and their "Attention" video for the same weekend to minimize the amount of travel needed.
This medley was released as an album on music streaming services, with each song being an individual track. The audio version also includes bonus dance remix versions of "Shiny" and "Where You Are".
The YouTube description assures us that "[n]o coconuts were harmed during the filming of this video." It doesn't mention what became of them after filming, though.
It also includes an intentional mistransliteration of the Polynesian lyrics: "Taco belly, belly… Oh, hey, a hockey leaguer, we know the way!!! (Mmmmm… Tacos.)"
Fan artist Leon King made a drawing of Earl, Rachel, and Layne as their characters based on one of the Moana promotional posters.
Tumblr media
VoicePlay also included "How Far I'll Go" in their next video, an "Aca Top 10 – Disney Heroes" medley.
A couple in The Philippines was so impressed by this video that they invited VP & Rachel to perform at their daughter's first birthday party the next summer. They also arranged for a public performance the day before as a means of sharing with their community, and to ensure that the group wasn't traveling halfway around the world for a single gig.
A few years later, Layne did an interview / demo of his audio production process with Elizabeth Zharoff on The Charismatic Voice channel.

Well, now that I've updated my favorite Christmas songs list. Here is my list of favorite Halloween songs. Note, this list is subject to change based on my mood.
Bonus: Locked Within the Crystal Ball by Black Moore's Night. It's not actually Halloween related but it has a very elemental magick feel to it so I felt it was worth a mention.
Also bonus mention for Queen's A Kind of Magic.
25. Witch's brew by Omnia. The lyrics are directly taken from Shakespeare's MacBeth but because the play is considered to be cursed the song may be cursed. The story goes that the scene with he three witches was based on an encounter Shakespeare had with some actual witches and as punishment for making them characters in his play, the play was cursed. Now actors and theatre crew consider it bad luck to say the name of the play. It's often referred to as "The Scottish Play" and the only time its name can be said is when you are talking specifically about the character. So because it might be cursed, I put it very low on the list.
24. Lost in the Shadows from the Lost Boys soundtrack. This is an old favorite as I used to watch that movie every summer but I associate it more with summer than Halloween which is why I put it so low on the list.
23. The Master's song, sung by Renfield in Dracula the musical by Frank Wildhorn.
22. Life after Life from Dracula the musical by Frank Wildhorn and sung by Dracula and Lucy.
21. Anything can happen on Halloween sung by Tim Curry for the TV movie version of The Worst Witch.
20. Hex Girl from The Hex Girls for Scooby Doo and The Witch's Ghost. From the Wiccan Eco Goth equivalent of The Spice Girls.
19. Touching old Magic AKA The Halloween song from the Halloween door episode of The Real Ghostbusters animated series. Surprisingly good for a song from an animated series from the 80s.
18. Halloween by John McCutchen. This was a pain to track down. I heard it on Halloween radio and liked it and it took me a while to find a decent recording of it.
17. Halloween by J. P. Ashkar. This song was a Tiktok hit last Halloween and the full (longer) version of the audio can be found on Youtube. It's really very catchy.
16. Creepy Crawlies by Scary Bitches. This song was (for many years) the unofficial theme song to the Spirit Halloween store. The first time I heard it was on the radio in a Spirit Halloween store.
15. Scary Monsters (And Super Creeps) by David Bowie. Not quite Halloween related but it plays on Halloween radio and so does Magic Dance (which is listed under this one). The album Scary Monsters (and super Creeps) inspired Danny Elfman during his Oingo Boingo days.
14. Magic Dance by David Bowie for the movie Labyrinth. Sung by Jareth, The Goblin King, and his goblin minion, to entertain a human baby.
13. The Witches are back to the tune of the similarly named Elton John song, from Hocus Pocus 2.
12. One way or Another. The Hocus Pocus 2 version sung by Bette Midler.
11. I put a spell on you. Bette Midler's cover from Hocus Pocus.
10. Horror in Action by Kayak. For some reason this song makes me think of Cain and The House of Mystery horror anthology comics by DC.
9. You won't survive by Count Crow. A parody version of "I will Survive" sung by Dracula to his victims. I just think it's darkly funny.
8. Fright Night from J. Geils Band. This is the title track for the movie Fright Night from 1985 starring the late Roddy McDowall as a hasbeen horror actor who is dragged into the world of the supernatural when teenager, Charlie Brewster, believes his neighbor to be a real vampire. Peter Vincent must overcome his fears and becomes the hero he always pretended to be. Roddy McDowall's voice is even sampled briefly in the song.
7. Monster Mash by Bobby "Boris" Pickett. How can I not love this classic? But my favorite version of it is a recording I actually only heard relatively recently. Vincent Price's cover from the 1970s.
6. Thriller by Michael Jackson and Vincent Price. I mostly love it for the iconic dance but most especially for Vincent Price's poem / "Rap" and of course his iconic cackle at the end of the song. My friend Sarah used Vincent Price's cackle from the song as my ringtone on her cellphone for many years.
5. Ghostbusters by Ray Parker Jr. This one is a childhood favorite. The title track to the original Ghostbusters movie and the theme song for The Real Ghostbusters animated series. The animated series inspired me to study parapsychology and made me want to be a parapsychologist when I was thirteen.
A recent interview with Ray Parker Jr. revealed that he loves the song because it always makes people smile. No one is ever crying when the Ghostbusters song is playing. He said how even little kids will answer "Who you gonna call?" with "Ghostbusters!" And that's what he likes about the song, it brings people joy. There's no negative emotion attached to the song. And I realized he's right. It's just a fun song.
4. Pet Sematary by The Ramones. Deliberately misspelt, this song was the title track for the movie of the same name, based on the novel by Stephen King. I actually like the song more than the movie. The song is from the point of view of someone who doesn't want to be raised from the dead. In role playing games I always made this the favorite song of my original character, Shelley.
A cover of the song was performed by Plain White Ts for the soundtrack of Tim Burton's remake of Frankenweenie (he was remaking his own short film but as stop motion). I actually prefer the original Ramones version. Though I do love it's use for a Frankenstein story.
3. Weird Science by Danny Elfman / Oingo Boingo. I love the song for it's bouncy nature. Yes, it's "Mainstream' but so what? Oingo Boingo fans who refuse to like any of their "mainstream" songs are (in my opinion) kind of pretentious. Yes, it was written for a cheesy teen comedy that later became a 90s teen sitcom on USA Network. But so what? The song is from the point of view of a scientist / sorcerer or alchemist attempting to create life. It's heavily inspired by Bride of Frankenstein and the version used in the opening of the Weird Science TV series samples clips from Bride of Frankenstein.
In role playing games I often made this the favorite song of my "therapist for monsters" character Percy Van Helsing.
2. Dead Man's Party. This song will now always remind me of a wonderful time I had with my cousin and soul sister, Jessica Louise Conroy and her son, Joey, at Six Flags last Halloween season. It played a lot over the speakers there and was already a Halloween favorite of mine. It's by Danny Elfman from when he was the lead singer of the rock band Oingo Boingo. And it makes reference to the scary story "Room for One More." Today Danny Elfman uses it as his encore performance at the end of his Nightmare before Christmas concerts but between 1996 until 2015 he did not perform it live. Now it's tradition that he adds it to his annual Nightmare before Christmas concerts. And the song became the basis for Six Flag's Halloween stage show of the same name, "Dead Man's Party."
1. This is Halloween. Written by Danny Elfman for Nightmare before Christmas it finally reached the Billboard Top 100 for the first time this year. My favorite recording of it is the demo version sung by Danny Elfman himself because it sounds like Jack Skellington is giving you a tour of his home town.
Another Bonus: I also love Halloween Bash by Irving Fink. I didn't put it on the list before because I couldn't remember who recorded it. I knew it as "Monster Bash" from Halloween Radio, a song I heavily associate with my dearest friend Lorie Pringle

Here, this is the playlist I was talking about earlier. I made some for other characters in my book, too - Dark is its title, but there's the possibility I'll change it in the future.
Why did I choose those specific tracks for this character?
Into the unknown by The Blasting Company (feat. Jack Jones): it's the main theme of Over the garden wall, but it is also the musical incarnation of autumn in New England. Also, I think HP would like otgw. It's all about the vibes.
Origin of supernatural probabilities by Tangerine Dream: the album it comes from, Zeit, is just a mix of ambience and cosmic dread. It's perfect.
A dream in static by Earthside: best song ever, it reminds me of the struggles of living while constantly thinking about a past that can't be recreated, and the desire to separate oneself from the body and real life.
Entombed by Deftones: I feel like it represents having someone who both loves and oppresses you. I mainly get this idea from the opening lyrics.
Dig by Incubus: the band said it's a song about forgiveness, and I do see this version of HPL getting blinded by his own ego at times. He makes lots of mistakes in the book. Also the lyrics that go "we'll make a pact to never speak that word again, yes you are my friend" give me emotional damage because they remind me of what I have in store for him and Dalo.
Daydreaming by Radiohead: stillness. alienation. nostalgia. cryptic lyrics. yes.
Dust in the wind by Kansas: a classic. Everything we do, every one of our lives, is temporary. And at the end, nothing will remain. All we are is dust in the wind.
The foundations of decay by My Chemical Romance: your honour, its tormented lyrics and melody have captivated me. It actually could fit in Dalo's playlist as well, but the disillusionment in it made me choose this one instead.
Nihilist blues by Bring me the horizon (feat. Grimes): yes yes an EDM track. I've been associating this song to him since I listened to it for the first time and I love it very much. The lyrics reflect him almost 100% - it's also great amv material since in the book (it should be approximately in chapter 39, but this could vary) he literally goes [redacted] and someone has to stop him. Spoilers: a lot of blood gets spilled.
The torment of existence weighed against the horror of nonbeing by Mayday Parade: just look at that title lol
But, honestly by Foo Fighters: this actually has little to do with the HPL that we see in the book, it reminds me more of his dynamic with the women in his life. It doesn't really hit the center of the target, but it's ok.
Look at the sky by Porter Robinson: this one is pretty optimistic in tone, but it reflects how he struggles with writing. He had given up towards the end of his life and in the afterlife he still doesn't really feel like picking up the pen again. It could also be read as a conversation between him and Dalo. God I think I feel for them way too much.
Owner of a lonely heart by Yes: yup, it's an Ask Lovecraft reference.
Help by The Beatles: he needs some help indeed! He's a concentrated of anxiety and depression, but just the fact he's actually seeking support is frankly commendable. He's kinda letting go of the "gentlemen solve their problems alone" schtick. Good for him.
Freaks by Surf Curse: if an anime of Dark ever gets produced someday, I want - no, I need someone to make a supercut of all the scenes where he's in silly/superdeformed mode with this song in the background.
空っぽの空に潰される (Karappo no Sora ni Tsubusareru) - transl. "This empty sky is crushing me" by Amazarashi: this song. the cemetery scene. my heart. also just... go look at the translation please.
The crane dance by Ludovico Einaudi: a melancholic piano piece by my favourite pianist. It's like a rainy night in music form. Nightbook, the album it comes from, was a big (and I mean enormous) inspiration for my book. The three main characters (the Girl, the Mage and this ghostly version of hpl) have a song from this album in their respective playlists.
Wallflower by Peacock Affect: another mostly acoustic song. It contrasts lightly with the rest of this playlist - it's slightly hopeful, and tranquil. To me, it's like that caring and gentle, human side of him which I just started to discover.
I only wanna talk to you by The Maine: have I already told you that his dynamic with Dalo is the only thing giving me the will to live? The first verse is basically him referring to what happened at the Coven. The entire song kinda encapsulates how their relationship evolves and mutates during the story. Also the bridge before the last chorus hits so hard it's unbelievable, it's so sincere and transparent and heartfelt and and
Have you ever seen the rain by Creedence Clearwater Revival: it's a perfect way to close both the playlist and the story. The music video also gave me many feels and ideas for the book.

Getting Back Into Writing...
I know I've been gone a while, but I don't plan on making any grand speech or introductions. I've considered closing this account multiple times since I don't know if anyone still reads my content or uses this platform. Nonetheless it's 2024 and I'm still here.
I started blogging on Tumblr as a hobby and because I really enjoyed writing. I still love writing! Writing on here acted as a journal for me, something that I could use to look back on years from now. Since I started writing with the intention of doing it for myself, I will continue to do so. I am glad to be back and will try my best to stay consistent. At the same time, I also don't want to force myself to write just for writings' sake. Instead, I'll write when I feel most inspired.
I had this idea of doing a "movie watchlist" based on my opinion of course. I wanted this list to be here for me in the future so I could see if my taste in movies has changed, matured or anything at all. Over the years I've watched a bunch of movies that I've enjoyed for different reasons. Movies were one good source of entertainment for me and my family growing up and brought me lots of fond memories. I remember being so excited to go to the video shop and pick out some of my favorites to rent and then going back home & watching it with my family. Dad and I would go to the video store and browse, sometimes taking longer than expected. I'd spend time looking at the covers reading the synopsis on the back before choosing anything. I was so proud when I picked something decent that everyone liked, I'd brag and say I had good taste! Those were the simple times when life was easy.
I digress, getting back to this list of mine. Let's just call it "Rivers' ultimate watchlist" for now. Like I said before this will be a random list of movies in no particular order from horror, comedy, romance, adventure, sci-fi and everything else in between. You might not know all of these movies or even like them but if you do find yourself bored and wondering what to watch, give it a try. I am sure you will find at least one good gem worth your time! I think I might do the same list for anime, kdrama, tv series and animated films later on and possibly update this movie list and add more titles.
Tumblr media
Here's the list: ⦁ Harry Potter 2001 1-7 (The first four movies were among my faves) ⦁ Thirteen Ghosts 2001 (I don't know why but I've always liked this one) ⦁ Darkness Falls 2003 (A horror movie about the tooth fairy. This one will scare your kids.) ⦁ The Exorcist 1973 (The first one is still the scariest of all time. I also liked Exorcist: The Beginning but these are flicks I don't want to watch repeatedly or at night.) ⦁ Resident Evil 2002 (Yes, I know it's a video game adaptation and not everyone likes it. The very first one is a classic. I've also seen all the other movies in the franchise multiple times mostly because I like zombie action and Milla Jovovich) ⦁ Without a Paddle 2004 (A great comedy full of laughs. Definitely a fun watch in my opinion) ⦁ Euro Trip 2004 ("Scotty doesn't know!" "This isn't where I parked my car". I still remember the lyrics to the song. This one is a bit raunchy but in a good way if that makes sense.) ⦁ Me, Myself and Irene 2000 (Jim Carrey is great and so is Renée Zellweger. I really liked this one. Watch with an open mind) ⦁ Alien 1979 by Ridley Scott (I can't believe some people still haven't seen this. I love aliens and this one is a certified classic. You just have to see it for yourself. I've seen all the movies in the franchise and I'm still a fan after all these years. I'd happily rewatch any time.) ⦁ Blade 1988 1-3 (Ah vampires what can I say, I do love my supernatural movies! I think Wesley Snipes totally embodied Blade and was perfect for the role. I only recently found out that there's an animated version which features more of the lore from the comic books. The action in this movie is too good to pass on. In fact, my mom loved it so much she named our dog Blade) ⦁ Terminator 1984 (The second one is my favorite out of all the Terminator films, but I still enjoyed watching the others. There's just something about man versus machine that keeps you glued to your screen, that and Arnold Swarzenegger. ⦁ Zathura : A Space Adventure 2005 (I loved it! It's a kids movie but it's still a good) ⦁ Predator 1987 (Tying into the whole Alien vs Predator universe I naturally had to watch this. Prey is the most recently released movie in the franchise, do not skip this one!) ⦁ RV 2006 (Robin Williams is so funny, great family movie to watch together on movie night! ⦁ Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events 2004 (Some might say it's depressing, but the cast are brilliant actors and I thought it was a very clever film.) ⦁ Serenity 2005 (I didn't even know there was a show called Firefly linked to this movie. I only found out years later) ⦁ Pan's Labyrinth 2005 (Dark, twisted and brilliant but definitely not meant for everyone! This is a Spanish movie by Guillermo del Toro and still one of my faves. Please watch it with subtitles and not in dub. Also see Pacific Rim from the same director if you haven't watched it yet) ⦁ Jurassic Park 1993 1-3 (What can I say, I love dinos! The original will always be my favorite.) ⦁ Because of Winn Dixie 2005 (Great family film. Wholesome and heartwarming) ⦁ Dreamcatcher 2003 (This movie freaked me out as a kid, especially the toilet scene. I also heard there's a book so I might have to read it eventually) ⦁ Apocalypto 2006 (A really great film by Mel Gibson. If you can handle brutality, give it a try. It's definitely not for the faint of heart) ⦁ The Descent 2005 (If you're claustrophobic this movie will be your worst nightmare) ⦁ A Sound of Thunder 2005 (When I was young, I thought this movie had a really interesting concept.) ⦁ The Cave 2005 (It's similar to The Descent. It has that element of fear, the unknown and of course a mysterious creature) ⦁ Wonder 2017 (A really beautiful film with a great message) ⦁ Billie Elliot 2000 (The ending was so great! And I love the soundtrack because of Elton John. My favorite song from the movie was "electricity".)
(P.S I will be posting this in two parts because this was way longer than I expected!!)

IGNEA — Seytanu Akbar (Official Video) NEW VIDEO & ALBUM https://ift.tt/qzD34H5 OFFICIAL WEBSITE & STORE https://ignea.band/ Bandcamp: https://ift.tt/XPGLWlz Patreon: https://ift.tt/Uv9xtiI Facebook: https://ift.tt/XuErmbV Twitter: https://twitter.com/ignea_band Instagram: https://ift.tt/ZLqyf1A Seytanu Akbar is taken from the debut full album 'The Sign of Faith'. Check out an animated video for this song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AMtef1SPjaM LYRICS Yet well I love thy mixed and massive piles Half church of Allah, half castle 'gainst distraught And long to roam those venerable aisles With records stored of deeds long since forgot. My children vanished below the sign of faith Your mark of Allah is carved upon their graves You hide in peace but disappear in grief I’m bringing death to you, I shout Şeytanu Akbar! Your aim is fake, your point is to destroy And rise empire upon infidel ash You laud Allah, the only god sways peace Peace built by death of all unfaithful thrash. Fascism is obsolete — you claim erasing woes Raсism is dead — and you destroy the others You Allah leads to world thriving in peace But only you are worthy for this peace, I disagree, Şeytanu Akbar! Yet well I love thy mixed and massive piles The church of Allah, you’re ruined, you’re destroyed I will roam free these venerable aisles I’ll be in memory of world, as I’ve enjoyed, Şeytanu Akbar! Disclaimer: Despite provocative title of the song, our intention is to carry the idea of peace. What we want to say is that there is no reasonable cause to kill other people, be it regime, faith or moral principles. We mainly speak about islamic terrorism in this song, as one of the social plagues of 21st century, taking lots of innocent lives. However, this applies to every human on Earth, regardless of their religion. The view from harabeoji (할아버지)’s hospital window.
Title: Dallas to Seoul to Dallas
NOTE: “Harabeoji” or 할아버지 is the Korean word for grandfather.
“Kimbap” or 김밥 is a Korean food often consisting of rice, vegetables, and meats wrapped in a roll of seaweed.
Jane sat in the monotone room, staring at the thin white bedsheet. It was quiet. Only the distant sounds of beeping and nurses’ voices could be heard. She waited nervously alone, as her mother had gone down to the cafeteria. To the right of her was a large, rectangular window, sheltering her from the frigid winter night. Snowflakes magically faded into view and gradually descended, accumulating along the frame, and piling at the corners of the window’s base. Her grandfather looked through the window, with a blank expression on his wrinkled face.
Jane felt misplaced. She nervously anticipated for another nurse to enter the room, assume a close relationship between them, and ask if she could speak to him in hopes of encouraging him to communicate verbally.
Ever since his last stroke a month ago, her grandfather lost his ability to speak. According to her mother, her grandfather was once an extremely sharp, talkative, and outgoing man. Unfortunately, Jane wouldn’t know as she had only known her grandfather when she was an infant. Shortly before she turned four years old, she and her mother immigrated to Texas, chasing the American dream and leaving behind the rest of her family in Seoul. It was visible to her that her mother was unable to comprehend how someone who was once so energetic and expressive could suddenly be deprived of their ability to speak.
Jane and her mother always thought that the day they would return to their homeland would be an opportunity for her to be reimmersed in her culture. However, as Jane sat in the hospital, she only felt embarrassed of her inability to speak her native language, and especially humiliated that she couldn’t even communicate to her own relatives.
Her mother entered the room with two boxes of kimbap in her hand. She carefully popped off the clear plastic coverings of each box and laid them on the bedside drawer.
“Jae-in-ah, you think you could feed these to your harabeoji?”, her mother asked in her broken English.
Jane nodded and slowly slipped off the paper covering of the metal chopsticks. She firmly grasped one roll of the kimbap with her utensils, and moved it towards her grandfather’s mouth, carefully ensuring not to let a single grain of rice fall from the firmly packed roll of ingredients.
As she fed him each time and watched him chew each bite, she reminisced a distant memory. As a child, she would sit on the cool, black sofa in the humid Korean summer—her sweaty hands leaving imprints on the couch’s pleather material. A younger version of her grandfather would feed her the same exact way, smiling as she received each bite of food.
Once the tray was empty, her mother beckoned her to say goodbye once again to her grandfather. It was the nearing the end of their trip, and tomorrow morning they would be sitting on a plane flying to Dallas.
Her grandfather’s same blank expression stared outside the frosted window.
Nervously, Jane hesitantly walked to the right of the bed. “Harabeoji, saranghaeyo”, she said with a weak smile, embarrassed of her limited Korean, while leaning in to give him a soft hug.
Her grandfather chuckled and for a split second, it was just her and the energetic soul locked inside his fragile body.
NOTE: Saranghaeyo or 사랑해요 translates to "I love you" in Korean.

In his new solo exhibition at Eleftheria Tseliou Gallery, titled Seven Songs, Antonakis Christodoulou presents a new body of work, on which he started focusing in 2019 and, which, as the title suggests, deals with seven music tracks that follow him through his life from very early on, until today. Every song corresponds to one or more works in the exhibition; larger and smaller paintings, drawings with pencils, collages and a folder with draft sketches and notes, placed on a music stand replica. The songs hailed from the ‘70s in Greece, include The Dragon and The Princely Waltz from the iconic children’s radio show ‘Lilipoupoli’, Τhe young Rallou and Tsamikos by the Greek composer Manos Hadjidakis with lyrics by Nikos Gkatsos, and the beautiful Lullaby for babies and old men performed by singer Mariza Koch and with lyrics by Nikos Kavadias. These songs are deeply loved by Antonakis, who hasn’t parted with them during the last 40 years. The performers and composers, the stories, the environments, and the spaces in which he listened to those songs for the first time, are bound to him, and urge the artist to frequently revisit these songs and listen to the same tracks again and again, in an attempt to visualize that which is stored in his mind. His multifaceted artistic approach, with obvious influences from modernism and the art scene associated with the “Generation of the ‘30s” in Greece, explores the notion of myth within a contemporary context. The form and colour choices, the geometrical shapes, and the human and animal figures, as much as the use of various different media, compose this unique visual language, in an attempt to instigate a dialogue between past and present. With the choices he makes when painting, the viewer is somehow transported through space and time. By taking the songs as a starting point, the artist this time uses a very different approach to his work. Antonakis has a very persistent archival practice of documentation, almost obsessive, as he himself characterises it. His archive, which he builds through the years, is always subject to constant growth, and functions as a continuous source for subject-matters for his work. The elements of archive and repetition remain  always important in his artistic practice and this exhibition is no exception. In contrast to his previous work, though, which deals mainly with mainstream and pop iconography, the images in these new paintings are born from a mixture of memory and fantasy, incited by music. Enclosed narratives, memories of his childhood and youth, ghosts of grandmothers and aunts unfold in the works of this exhibition. Antonakis listens to the same song for hours when painting. The sound entangles with memory and evokes images from the past, from the environments where the artist used to listen to the songs back then. The places, the objects, and the people that spring from his memory, are mixed with the imagination of the child, teenager and adult Antonakis. On the canvas, shapes and colours represent houses, living rooms, and objects, such as blankets, frames, old TVs, and tape recorders. The songs are characterised by dense verses and strong narratives, tell stories and express feelings. Antonakis visualises spaces within the sound in his mind, which appear as dreams and thoughts, travelling in space and time. Like a form of “artistic synaesthesia”, sound and music are transformed into images. Antonakis starts from the non-image to create images though senses. Every time he listens to each song, the memories in his mind become stronger and weaker simultaneously. How does the memory of childhood get tangled up with the subjectivity of the adult self? The images are constantly reborn and disregarded, through memory and imagination in a condition of continuous negotiation, as is the act of painting itself, a never-ending perpetual quest.

Tour of Steffi’s 500 sq. ft. studio apt. in Seattle, Washington. She’s been here 3 yrs. and is totally in love with it. I can see why.
Tumblr media
An angry Fiona Apple greets you as you walk in the door. To the right is a closet and to the left is a bathroom.
Tumblr media
After Fiona, is Beck. The apt. has a music theme.
Tumblr media
From there you enter the studio.
Tumblr media
You’ll notice favorite song titles and lyrics. She likes gloomy and moody art for the kind of visual she wants b/c she likes things to have a little bit of a dark edge.
Tumblr media
The couch is used as a room divider, and b/c a regular coffee table would be too big, she uses an accent table and it works fine.
Tumblr media
Death Note books, one of her favorite animes, are throughout the space. Other manga is around, too, b/c she thinks it looks cool.
Tumblr media
Steffi likes to use coffee table books to express the things she’s into.
Tumblr media
She also likes to pile throw pillows on the couch to make it comfy, like it’s giving her a hug.
Tumblr media
On the other side of the couch is the bedroom where the music theme continues with sound wave prints.
Tumblr media
In this corner she has a Triforce representing the Legend of Zelda.
Tumblr media
And, there’s also a pic of Taylor Momsen from her favorite band, “The Pretty Reckless.”
Tumblr media
Then, more music imagery of her favorite singer/songwriter, Poe. The table has an vintage gothic look.
Tumblr media
Next is the sitting nook that the cat claimed as her own.
Tumblr media
Wow, the decor behind the desk is from The Container Store and was a pack of 4 for $9.99.
Tumblr media
The teeny kitchen is nice, though. At least it has a full size stove, sink & fridge, plus storage.
Tumblr media
The bath is a typical tiny studio apt. bath, but Steffi feels that she made it look pretty. I can’t believe all the wonderful things in this small apt. Amazing job of decorating.

Note
So one minor observation I've made is that Cole probably has cuteness aggression bc he often calls Marshmallow cute and expresses his urge to bite and squeeze the heck out of them. That is a reaction which is caused by a feeling that something is "too cute for us to handle" and we almost want to destroy it as a means to prevent ourselves from getting overwhelmed by it.
Also he would absolutely BODY the role of JD from Heathers and the song Meant to be yours that is so his vibe.
Have a lovely day!
1) OH MOST DEFINITELY
I talk about it on my list a bit but I legitimately believe that Cole does not know how to process any emotion in a productive healthy way. (at least not extreme emotions)
also I feel like he leans towards aggressive behaviors most of the times, though sometimes on accident.
2) also most def. Me and my brother actually talked about/made a play list for Cole and some characters like him and by made a playlist I mostly mean collected like 5 songs that immediately came to our heads and didn't think about it any deeper and also a few of the songs were hyper focused to our musical interests BUT YEAH Meant to be Yours was on it.
also on it;
Pretty by Don Broco (my brothers addition cause he was showing me this band around the time we made this, also partly cause of the music video GORE WARNING but here's the link)
Horror of our Love by Ludo (CAUSE IT'S MINE AND MY BROTHER'S FAV BAND and we can't have a serial killer play list without it!)
Overdone by Ludo (another suggestion by my brother cause for some reason I always forget this song exists????)
Non, Je ne regrette rien by Edith Piaf (cause I will always take any oppurtunity to put french jazz anywhere I can see fit and I legit think he'd listen to french jazz you can not change my mind also here are the lyrics with a translation button for my non-french speakers NO, I REGRET NOTHING. for clarification I don't think he JUST listens to it, just that it's a guilty pleasure he has BUT MAYBE I'M PROJECTING OR SOMETHING lol)
Y'a d'la joie by Charles Trenet (since we were on the subject of french jazz, and also cause I love me some irony! the title is "There is joy!" and it's a happy little song that I first heard in front of a french animated movie about a store that exclusively sells tools for su*c*de)
Meant to be Yours from Heathers (cause OBVIOUSLY. also this was more my addition cause I'm the musical theater kid between the two of us lol)
AND ACTUALLY SINCE WE'RE HERE IN MUSICAL LAND, I'm adding
Maria from West Side Story (since he canonically writes the players name all over himself like the obsessive weirdo he is lmao. for context, west side story is romeo and Juliet, and this is the song Tony sings after he first meets Maria and falls head over heels on sight. He learned her name as she slipped off into the night and it's dumb and sappy but GOD IF I DON'T LOVE IT BUT C'MON IT'S SONDHEIM HOW COULD YOU NOT???)
I could probably think of more (I KNOW MY BROTHER DEFINITELY COULD LMAO dude makes hours long playlists in his sleep) but these are just the first few that popped into me and my brothers head. I feel like it'd just be rock and showtunes and french jazz all the way down tho lmao
I know no one actually asked for these but here we go! A playlist of songs Cole can sing to you while he resists the urge to squeeze you to death lmao

Some people think that you find witchcraft when you’re looking for something that you don’t have in your life. That thing you can’t describe but fits you perfectly once you seek it out. But I think witchcraft finds you. It puts things in place, runs books or titles across your phone, haunts you in your sleep and finally when you’ve had all you can take, you open the door. And it’s not scary, or strange, it just feels like it was right there the whole time.
If you’ve been called to practice magic, then chances are there were signs and signals long before you realized what the heck was even going on. Maybe you’ve dreamed about things before they happened, or maybe your empathic abilities were shining bright as a kid, bringing your moods up and down. We’ve probably all had one or more of these experiences. So read on to see, were you born a witch?
[This post is mostly just for fun… because we are really all natural witches]
You heard people talk in your head before they spoke aloud
Ever hear someone say something before they say it, just to announce the answer out loud and have them look at you like you shocked the Hell out of them? Then they swear they didn’t say it out loud. It’s because you heard it in your head first.
You knew something was going to happen just before it happened
Maybe it was just a gut feeling, or a heightened intuition, either way you called it, and it happened.
You got a sick or gross feeling around someone and later learned that person was trash
Everyone LOVES person X, but you always got a horrible vibe around them. Later on you hear that they did this really nasty thing, and you’re all like, I told you so. Boom.
You had dreams about things that didn’t happen yet
Dreamed of the house before you moved in, of a visit that didn’t happen yet, or a trip in the making. You are basically a walking psychic.
You had imaginary friends (ghosts) and talked to them as a child
You had all the friends. Only all the friends were dead. But that either didn’t bother you, OR you didn’t realize you were the only one playing dress up and tea with your dolls.
You could step into a room, and it could really bring you down if it was depressing or lift you up if the mood was right
Hop into a room or space, and you immediately pick up the vibe, good or bad, and it can really affect your mood. Sometimes for a while too.
When a song plays you really feel the lyrics
Maybe it’s not a pop song, but when the lyrics play the notes speak directly to your soul.
You are well liked by animals
Go to a friend's house and her cats are all over you. Even your neighbor iguana sits on your lap. Animals know a witch when they see one.
You were drawn to natural things as a child like being outside, playing with rocks or bugs
You liked to play outside but it was overkill. Not only that, but you walked around barefoot, collected rocks or just felt the Earth over being inside anyway.
You never really felt like you belonged
There was always this eerie feeling that you didn’t belong. Now I know we all kinda feel that way but you're particular, like something was missing...
You lived in your imagination and made up stories and could visualize them as a kid
Imagination was your jam. You always made up wild stories with vivid imagination and could see every single detail in all its glory.
You liked to read and could see the images play in your mind like a TV show
Reading is still your favorite hobby. And you can still play out every scene from all your favorite books in your head.
You said things about dead relatives to your family members that you have never met
You knew Great-Grandma had dark brown eyes and wore a pink cardigan to church even though you never met her, and she died 8 years before you were born.
You talked to trees and plants
Trees seem alive to you. You can feel their spirits and sometimes like to walk up to them and give them a high five.
You feel called to the ocean, rain or a specific element
The ocean is a special place for you. Its mystic energy pulls you in, and you can’t ever get enough.
You have a natural aversion to helping people
You always volunteered to babysit the class pet, help your friend move, or just be an ear when someone needed a cry.
People seem to tell you their darkest secrets for no reason
The grocery store checkout lady spills the tea on her divorce, or the lady you babysit for vents to you about a long stressful day at work. People seem to open up to you, and you don’t really know why.
Graveyards never bothered you
Maybe it just seemed more like a natural ending to things than a big scary end all. Either way even when you were a kid, visiting the cemetery was never even a thrill.
The moon has always been a big deal
Were you fascinated with the moon as a child? Spend nights staring at the stars? Or was astronomy your favorite subject?
Have you had an unusual experience that happened to you before you discovered witchcraft? Drop a line below and share your experience…!

Julian Bashir Playlist Time!!
Apple Music playlist (if you're a heathen and subscribe to apple music like me) here
I know that there's plenty of people making playlists, but I really feel like this is an under-utilized brand of fan content. Instead of attempting to create a list of songs that Julian would listen to, or a playlist of songs which were all lyrically directly applicable (though there certainly some of those in here) regardless of genre, I tried to create something which captured, above all, his vibes instead, by choosing songs that balance at least somewhat relevant lyrical content with the energy or feel that I associate with the character. What it means matters, but not as much as how it makes you feel. That said, I signed up for apple music and read a TON of those overwrought iTunes store album review descriptions while I was making this, so I have a whole lot to say about all my choices here. In depth explanation of my symbolism and methodology behind each song under the keep reading. (I love tumblr. I want to write 1,000 words of analysis about why I picked songs to represent Julian Bashir and some of you are gonna read it. This is where I get to pretend to be one of those iTunes music writers. I feel joy.)
Good Morning - Two Door Cinema Club TDCC's Gameshow is high on my favorite albums of all time list for nebulous reasons I myself don't really understand. It was this album, though not this song (but one that will pop up later) that actually inspired me to make this playlist to begin with, as for some reason, from the color scheme of the album cover, to the overall vibe, to the ever-present references to illness, injury, surgery and healers in the lyrics, the whole thing feels inescapably Julian to me. And with an opening like I'm a sinner/I'm the victim/I'm an alien when I'm myself/I'm a healer/I'm a fixer/I'm a present danger to my health/I'm so strong/Doing what I'm supposed to do/ There's something wrong/With somebody like me, it's hard NOT to think about Julian when you hear this song, and I can't think of a better way to start this off.
Sweater Weather - The Neighbourhood I think there's a joke somewhere about bisexual people all liking Sweater Weather, and yeah, I resemble that remark. Sweater Weather is just good. You'll notice there's a sort of chill-indie-alt-electronic thing going here, and that is very much the vibe I'm sticking with. Sweater Weather slots in beautifully, both sonically and thematically. As the singer looks to warm and protect the person he's with from the cold, you can't help but feel a loving coziness coming off of this one. It always makes me feel cozy, at least, so it's here.
Gooey - Glass Animals I have nothing to analyze here because the artists themselves have said that the lyrics of this song have no meaning, they're just meant to capture a vibe, and capture it they do. Close your eyes and ride the vibes of this one. The energy is right, I love it, it belongs here.
Blue - Mika I could probably write a couple hundred words on Blue alone, in any context. This might be my beloved Mika's magnum Opus. Opening the song with the inherently counterintuitive lyric Blue is a feminine color, Mika manages to pack it ALL into this 3 minute song: questions about gender; concepts of sadness, joy, and their intersections; of the perception of melancholy as a flaw and loving people despite, or maybe because of, those "flaws" and anything else about them; a powerful first person reassurance that made me start weeping in my car the first time I heard it; just the phrase "why are humans cruel to you." And oh boy, ARE there questions of gender. Why is blue NOT considered a feminine color? Is that a good thing, a bad thing? In 3 minutes of artful poetry, Mika manages to wrap up sadness, love, joy, pain, the feminine that exists within the masculine and the masculine that exists within the feminine, in the simple color of blue and then, in one lyric, validates it all. And on a much simpler and more obvious note, this is in fact all a philosophic musing on the symbolic meaning of the color we see Julian wearing almost all the time (when he's not in uniform, almost all his civvies are also shades of blue.) I feel like this is one of those songs that's hard to analyze because it does what music and poetry does best - communicate something that cannot be communicated any other way. With these broad themes of loving others around the things they can't love about themselves, you can decide for yourself if this one is coming FROM Julian or directed AT him, either works. I find myself struggling for exactly the words to explain this one, but listen to it; you'll understand.
Little Dark Age - MGMT Another choice with no obvious lyrical relevance, but the tonal fit was just too good to pass up. The vibes pass.
The City - The 1975 This song is one of several present because it leans on medical symbolism to get its point across, though I would be lying if I said I fully understood what that point was. But the entire second verse, apparently about the song's subject suffering from some kind of illness and reassuring him that the next one's the M.D./You'll be feeling just fine, seems somehow to transmit the discomfort of illness directly to the listener. I don't know how or why, but the effectiveness of the empathy the second half of this song elicits, in me at least, puts it squarely in the "odd medical vibes" category.
Surgery - Two Door Cinema Club THIS is the song that inspired this whole playlist, mostly because of its title and general vibe. Another example (of many) of medical/anatomical references in this album (another of the songs is called Fever, etc), this song just feels like Julian to me.
The Other Side Of Paradise - Glass Animals I really like Glass Animals. That is probably becoming obvious. Aside from its delightfully cohesive vibes, this song opens with what's simultaneously the slyest and most brazen gay lyric I have heard on the radio recently, as the male singer says When I was young and stupid my love left to be a rock and roll star/HE told me... The song seems to be about a man whose male lover left him in pursuit of fame and fortune, and eventually ends up with a woman, leaving the singer behind. It's got simultaneously subtle and obvious gay themes, it's got confused love affairs, it's got so much bisexual energy. I cannot think of anything that could be more Julian.
Sit Next To Me - Foster The People Kind of like Sweater Weather, this whole song is built around a rather cute and sweet "sit next to me," and you can't help but feel a bit warm and cozy when you listen to it. I think it pairs with sweater weather well, and slides in with the rest of the picks very nicely.
Nothing Better - The Postal Service (the original band of the lead singer of Death Cab For Cutie) Another example of heavy surgical symbolism, the very first lyric of this song is Will someone please call a surgeon. This is actually a duet, and the singers speak of their real hearts to represent their emotional ones. Something about Your heart won't heal right if you keep tearing out the sutures always gets me and always will. And it vibes good. It vibes so, so good.
&Run - Sir Sly Sir Sly's &Run is my favorite song for driving too fast. It does an amazing job of musical onomatopoeia, talking about running while making you want to run. It's a song about running out of plans and running as far as you can instead, which is all very "I'm illegal by definition so I went to the farthest possible reaches of space." And like everything else here, it just feels good. It's also one of the only highlights here that I can actually see Julian listening to.
Cosmic Love - Florence and the Machine It's no coincidence that it seems like most of us who are invested in Julian Bashir are some flavor of genderqueer, be it trans, nonbinary, questioning, or something else entirely - the man's got a Gender with a capital G, and there's a whole lot going on in there. Between the words that were written for him on the page, and the words that were actually spoken, and the way he carries himself, Julian always seems caught between the white, western, and frequently toxic masculinity that the writers often seemed to want to imbue him with, and the very different, racially and culturally distinct masculinity Sid actually brought. But there's an undeniable element of the feminine in Julian too, at least by a traditional definition. The presence of this part of him at all, much less the fact that, in-universe, it's the more traditionally "feminine" parts of himself - the caregiving and nurturing aspects - that Julian seems proudest of or to like most about himself, is a large part of what makes his character so interesting, at least to me. So there was no way I was getting out of this without acknowledging that somehow, and I can't think of a better way to acknowledge a complicated relationship with the feminine side of one's own gender than with this world's own Celtic divine feminine, Florence Welch. I can't think of any better artist, at least that I know of, to represent femininity as a nonspecific ethereal goddess-concept. I basically spun the wheel of Florence here, as anything would have worked, but Cosmic Love felt very appropriate for a character who does in fact live in space. There could even be some Garashir in here, I think.
Dream Sweet In Sea Major - ミラクルミュージカル, or Miracle Musical, a sister act made up of members of Tally Hall I also couldn't leave off without acknowledging Julian's affection for classic lounge music, especially since it's the only thing about his taste in music that we actually know. But instead of tacking on some rat pack, instead I'm polishing this off with the incredibly chaotic and somehow also perfectly cohesive and calm Dream Sweet in Sea Major. It's got all of the vibes of a lounge singer but gone completely off the rails, which just seems perfect somehow. And it's also a very nice feeling to be left with, so it seems only right to put it at the end.
and if you've read all of this, I love you. Y'all didn't know I was this into music did you. but I am. oh boy. I AM.
